Inktober Days 10-12
Day 10: "Fortune"
On the farthest-flung spit of the Florida Keys are a handful of islands bearing the second-oldest surviving European name in the US, recorded by Ponce de León for the abundance of sea turtles and the lack of fresh water (Florida’s name is considered the oldest). Shallow straits create a ship trap that has claimed hundreds of vessels from the age of sail, including loaded Spanish treasure galleons. Old lighthouses stand as memories to the effort to guide ships through lucrative but risky channels. Rising from Garden Key is a hexagonal fortress—Fort Jefferson, the largest all-brick fort in the US, which housed Union prisoners during the Civil War. Under the turquoise water are some of the most intact coral reefs in the continental US. The water teems with sea life, and in addition to several year-round seabird species, the islands serve as stopovers for migrating birds. It’s a treasure trove lousy with natural and historical abundance. A vast fortune of biodiversity and human history.
This message is not brought to you by Visit Dry Tortugas LLC—it’s brought to you by a too-romantic ranger who’s a sucker for lonely maritime outposts and would desperately like to visit this unusual little member of the National Park Service.
Day 11: "Wander"
Some parks more than others seem to invite visitors to wander. It’s the twists of a path, dipping in and out of the rises in a landscape. It’s the light filtering through dark forests, promising something new beyond the branches. It’s the shoulders of a massive mountain standing like a beacon, or its invisible summit covered in clouds. Mount Rainier, like so many other protected places, seems to beckon—come. Explore. Take it in.
But stay on the path—alpine habitats are fragile.
Day 12: "Spicy"
Olympic was the first park I fell in love with, and it was a twenty-year long-distance relationship. A National Geographic article I read in high school painted a picture of verdant rainforests dripping with moss, wild windy coastlines, and high snowy peaks. I desperately wanted to see these places myself, stand under the towering cedars and breathe in their spicy scent. My desire to visit was so strong that the summers I worked in Glacier and Yellowstone, I would constantly plot the drive west, hoping the travel time would somehow get shorter. It was eleven hours. I could do that in a long weekend, couldn’t I? Take one of my precious few days off and just blitz to the coast?
The plans never worked out, which is probably for the best. Instead, after two years of Covid-cancelled plans, my husband and I decided to make the trip together from the east coast. It was infinitely better than a snatched day and a half all alone. For a week, we explored the glaciated mountains, rocky beaches, and primordial rainforests. After two-thirds of my life spent pining after this park, it was everything I’d dreamed it would be and more.

Happy Father's Day!

*Second from left: Bluey, Bandit, is an archaeologist who adores his wife Chilli and his daughters and does his best to keep up with Bluey and Bingo's games, whether that means dressing up, turning into a robot, or starting from a tickle Survive the crab attack.
*Third from left: Undertale, Asgore, is the ruler of the underground world, its inhabitants, and monsters. He is Toriel's ex-husband, Asriel Dreemurr's father, and Chara's adoptive father. is a kind, quiet but optimistic monster who loves gardening, goldenrod tea, and Toriel's butterscotch pie.

*Second from right: Helluva Boss, Stolas, is a Goetic Hell Prince who is Octavia's father and Stella's husband. The first impression is of a regal, ostentatious man, but also a flamboyant, dramatic, eccentric, often dazzling man, very lonely, but with a romantic and explicit side, and he is also very tender towards those he cares about. ,Educated.
*Right: Hazbin Hotel, Lucifer, Charlie Morningstar's father and Lilith's estranged husband. He is the ruler of all hell and one of the Seven Deadly Sins. He has a flamboyant and dramatic personality, switching between silly and exaggerated, clumsy and melancholic. Saw one of the weirdest takes about Striker.
These were in the tags on post that was talking about how Striker gave up the opportunity to work with other imps and instead chose to keep working with the rich, when he turned down Blitz's offer of a job.
#reminder that stella is not the only rich person that striker has worked for#crim is also a greedy rich asshole and striker is implied to be the one who came to him rather than vice versa#yes crim is also an imp but still a rich greedy and presumably a capitalist soooo#this juxtaposes stolas who gets along better with other imps rather than other goetias#whereas striker associates more with rich assholes more than his own race#he also tries to convince blitz to give up everything he's worked for#almost like he doesn't actually gaf about advocacy for change or anything and is only working for the benefit for himself
First off, how is Blitz not a capatilist? He wants to make money too, and does so by killing people. Crim is only bad because he killed his wife and is abusive to Moxxie. If Crim was just a mafia boss, killing people who got in his way, and was nice to Moxxie and loved his wife, I don't really see much difference between him and Blitz. They're both imps that run their own businesses. I mean, I see no evidence that Blitz is a union man and fighting for imps either. Wierd to act as if Crimson is on the same level as the Goetias just because he has some money. By this standard, Fizz is also rich and Blitz is a class traitor for working for him as a body gaurd that one time.
Second, when did Stolas get along well with imps? Yes, he's attracted to Blitz, hell, I'll even go with the show's framing and say he loves him, but that doesn't mean he gets along with other imps. He treats Millie and Moxxie like they don't matter, and used his Butler as a stress ball.
Striker taking jobs from people who can pay him good money isn't the same as being buddy, buddy with them. Again, does Blitz lose points because he works for Fizz or made a deal with Stolas? Why is what Striker does worse? I'm not saying he loves imps, but it's bizarre to pretend he's constantly hanging around the rich, when he's had 2 clients during the show, and one of them is another self-made imp.
I just find it hypocritical that this person wants other fans to stop saying that Striker is trying to change things for imps, while pretending Blitz does want/tries to change things for imps. Neither of them cares overly much about imp oppression as a whole. They both have singular goals that revolve around what they want for themselves. Blitz does care about more people than Striker, but he also made fun of Wrath imps and thought they were inbred chuckle-fucks.
Also, really crazy to try and uplift Stolas as this down to earth guy, who treats imps so nice, while presenting Striker as this dude who spends all his time and is comfortable with the elite. Like, I'm sorry, but Stolas doesn't treat imps any better than Striker--he just fell in love with one imp. Him loving an imp doesn't mean he can't be racist anymore, or that he cares about other non-Blitz imps.
This. They are putting a draco in leather pants view on Stolas and anyone who actually reads this series without rose tinted filters can see that's bs.

Gotta recommend them again because I listen to their whole discography again 👌
Underrated new band (just almost 3 years old) from Chzech:
Blitz Union
Up to date social critic, millenial & gen Z moods, dystopian vibes, EBM + Rock / Metal + some other modern influences.
They are so damn fun live, since the front guy is super energetic with a dose of crazy vibes. He has the power to energize the whole audience when I saw them live. It can’t convey over video. So if you ever get the chance to see them live give them a try.
Some band lore: “the singer of the band got hit by lightning, saw the future and how bad it will get. In order to get the message – it is time for change! – out to the world as loud and clear as possible, he immediately founded the mysterious group called Blitz Union with his best friends.” (don’t know if that’s for real :D )

The Mass Evacuation of Soviet Factories in Early World War II
1941 was certainly a bad year for the Soviet Union. Within a matter of months after the start of Operation Barbarossa, German forces marched deep into Soviet territory, even advancing to the gates of Moscow itself. Loses were horrific as hundreds of thousands of soldiers were killed and hundreds of thousands more were captured. City after city fell to the invaders making it seem like nothing could stop the German blitz. Worse yet the German military burned, raped, and pillaged it's way across Eastern Europe resulting in hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths and millions of refugees in the first year alone. In the face of such wanton destruction economic and industrial damage might seem unimportant but regardless the loss of industrial infrastructure severely hindered the Soviet Union's ability to wage war as factories which produced war materials and important resources were either destroyed or came under German control. The Soviet Union had a great advantage over Germany because of it's massive industrial base and plentiful access to resources. If the Soviet's wanted to maintain that advantage they needed to enact a monumental plan to ensure that said industries and resources remained far behind friendly lines and out of the reach of Germany.
The plan was simple, so simple that it can be summed up with this classic Spongebob meme,
The plan that was enacted was to dismantle and uproot Soviet factories in the west and move them east past the Ural mountains, thus recreating an industrial heartland out of the reach of German occupation and even long range bombers. To say that such a movement of people and things was monumental would be an understatement. In 1941 the Soviets evacuated and moved 2,593 industrial and agricultural enterprises, among them were over 1,500 large factories. Buildings were demolished and rebuilt, tools and machinery were packed up and moved, almost everything that was not bolted to the ground was taken and redeployed or rebuilt in the east. This included the people who were needed to work the factories, which amounted to 18 million people. This endeavor required the use of 30,000 trains hauling 1.5 million cars. In addition to the task of moving stuff, new infrastructure had to be built to service these factories. Infrastructures such as railroads, roads, canals, plumbing, electricity, food distribution, medical services, and worker housing. Basically everything needed to run a factory town. Most incredibly most of this was done in less than a year.
By 1942 most of the factories and enterprises that were evacuated from the west were up and running. The result of this endeavour meant that when the Germans advanced deeper within the Soviet Union, they failed to capture the resources needed to keep their own war machine functioning. By 1942 seemingly endless numbers of tanks, planes, and guns would flood out of factories east of the Urals, and there was not a damn thing the Germans could do about it.

What I learnt by BBC regarding the Blitz in London - 1941
Due to the fact that I'm not a UK citizen, I knew very little about the London Blitz. I was more familiar with the Blitzes in my own country.
Everything I know now about it derives from two specific TV shows produced by the BBC, which, of course, is a reliable source. It is the national broadcasting service, isn't it?
First of all, I'd like to talk about the military conditions in London. The technological advancements in WW2 were quite crucial for the war's resolution, as seen with the invention of sonar and the alleged attempt to use Daleks in the war. In fact, Churchill was supposedly preparing Daleks to win the war, exploiting the knowledge of these human-shaped robots sent by some very cruel aliens.
Nevertheless, they were hardly bothered by the presence of a mysterious time traveler who parked his spaceship in front of Big Ben (which sonars could not identify because it was hidden). Additionally, some German air bombers mysteriously changed direction towards a different London area, killing two Nazi spies and destroying a church. Nobody investigated this sudden plan shift, possibly due to the effectiveness, albeit chaotic nature, of the British secret service.
Regarding the social conditions, London's common folk lived miserably, with many orphans around. Health conditions were delicate, with rare and sparse evidence suggesting the presence of Nazi zombies walking in Soho. The cause of this illness remains unclear, but it is assumed that indigenous people were immune to it, while Germans were not.
Meanwhile, a virus spread around the town causing people to repetitively say, "Mooommy? Are you my moooommy?" A doctor was able to heal them all with nanogenes provided by the same mysterious time traveler parked in front of Big Ben. We lack evidence of the technology or scientific research used, although it was likely based on DNA recognition, officially discovered only years later. We can assume some experiments were ongoing.
The situation was not the same for the medium/high class. Common bookshop owners could be hired as spies or become alcohol smugglers to maintain their lifestyle, such as being well-dressed and driving old-fashioned cars. Their discontent manifested in partisan actions against the Hitler regime. This anti-germany feeling was expressed expecially with clothes, by refusing to wear black clothes or wearing the Union Jack.
Despite the war conditions, London's cultural life remained flourishing and lively. US GIs entertained themselves by watching ladies and magicians perform one of the most successful magic tricks in history: the bullet catch, with the best representation held by Fell the Marvellous and an unknown gunman.
Due to the social inequities, food was in short supply, while toy and magic trick shops ran their businesses proficiently. Rare book selling was also a profitable way to survive, due to the high demand for ancient books, especially those containing prophecies.
At the end of the Blitz, the number of victims remains unclear. However, a famous sentence by a (medical?) doctor is reported: "Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once!". This interpretation is supported by the evidence of a demon and an angel making a toast. So, it ended well.
Thank you for your attention.
Can't wait to send this to my former high school history teacher.

not sure if u did this already or even still do the ship bingo but fizzarolli x angel dust??
Yeah, I'm still doing it! ❤️
I'd never considered this ship, but I do think they'd get along well. I only really ship Fizz (romantically) with Ozzie and Blitz, but him and Angel could be a great platonic ship! I think they deserve to unionize together, tbh 😂
