I can’t say this on BB twitter cuz some players actually follow me… and I’m shy, but…

Society will be a much better place when BB fans realize season 17 was an intellectual battle between Vanessa and Steve.

Both were strategists, Vanessa was a GAME PLAYER, a hustler and had control of most of the game, Steve was a super fan of Big Brother who KNEW his strengths and his weaknesses and how he could best make a path to the end from the jump.

Both of them were bluffing each other and it’s fun to view BB17 as a game of who can keep it up longer.

Also I think it’s fun both of them were taking a gamble on facing the other in the final HOH because I believe both of them have said they were 75% sure the other would take them… even though both of them were never going to take each other to final 2.

Vaggie: (opens the door and ushers Perri in) Come on, mija. You were so excited to see him before. Where did that energy go?

Perri: (Shuffles in nervously and pitter patters over to the bed, peeking over the edge at the bundle of blankets) Is.... Is that him?

Charlie: (nods tiredly) Mm-hmmm, that's your new brother, little angel.

Perri: *eyes sparkle*

Vaggie: Come on. Up we go. (Picks up Perri and sets her down on the bed next to Sammy)

Perri: (squeaks as she's picked up and set down. She looks up to Vaggie nervously)

Vaggie: Go ahead, mija. Say "Hello".

Perri: (slowly crawls forward and lays on her belly so she can brush her finger against Sammy's cheek) H-Hi, baby.

Charlie: His name is Sammy.

Perri: Hi, Sammy. (Brushes his cheek again and moves to run her finger through his hair) Mita! Mama! He's so soft!

Sammy: (blinks his eyes open, stares at Perri, and coos at her while reaching out a chubby little fist)

Perri: (gasps and wiggles her finger into Sammy's hand) Hi, Sammy! I love you already! (kisses Sammy's little fist)

before his debut in the piston cup racing series, lightning spent the previous season (that of 2005) in the dinoco grand national series (the pixar cars equivalent of the nascar xfinity series, essentially a level lower than the cup series).

at the time he started the season at 16, turning 17 in may, and became the youngest driver to ever win a race across all three of the top series (PCRS, DGNS, PCTS), and eventually he would become both the youngest person AND the first ever rookie to win a championship in any of the top 3 series as well.

at this point, this is his first year with harv as his agent, and his first year racing in the big leagues — meaning longer races in hotter places on longer tracks and much more restrictions on what he’s able to do within his car. he doesnt do much, of course, he’s waited his whole life to be at this level and is happy to accept their rules. he excels within this series, much better than anyone thought he would, and gains himself a fanbase of people who watch the DGNS regularly. hes not popular by any means, but damn is he good. he wins eleven races that season alone, including the final race of the season in which that crowns him as the champion (despite his already extreme points lead).

harv is very harsh. lightning assumes thats the way his agent should be — i mean, he IS trying to get a ride in the cup series for the next season — so the agent being on his back about winning and “not failing” seems natural to him.

halfway through the season, during the summer months, one saturday afternoon, its hotter than usual.

typically lightning would have a small desk fan in his car, but the piston cup prohibits that because, of course, they have other options that are more advanced than a plastic clip-on fan.

however, after the start of the race, about midway through, actually, lightnings gear malfunctions. he doesnt tell anybody until the race is over, in which he places ninth and gets out of the car in his pit box, immediately collapsing to the ground.

severe heat exhaustion is what hes suffering from, with headaches, lightheadedness, nausea, hyperventilating due to his struggle with breathing, and muscle cramps all throughout his chest and legs. there are immediately officials at his side, medics following soon behind with ice packs and more water bottles. he will have to go to the hospital, they figure out pretty quickly, as he’s panting like a dog and very obviously struggling to function. he cant even bring himself to think straight, ignoring the questions thrown at him and just curling in on himself.

an official helps him pull his firesuit down to his waist, another official is combing his curls out of his eyes and pressing a cold towel to his forehead, and another is calling the ambulance out from the garage area, all while the medics tend to his burns and press ice packs to his skin.

harv, of course, cannot have his driver looking like a fool in front of the cameras. ESPECIALLY after he embarrassed the entire team by coming in ninth when he had a car that was most definitely first place material. the man storms over to where the teenager is sitting on the ground, back against the side of his car, and starts yelling at him for his performance on the track and his “dramatic act”, referring to the kids medical episode that is still actively occurring.

the official that had helped him get his firesuit off his torso was having none of it. he stands up, gets right into harvs face, and tells him to leave immediately or else security will escort him from the area. when harv protests that hes the kids agent, the official scoffs and tells him it does not matter who he is or what he wants, he will be removed from the premises forcibly.

lightning wants to apologize for disappointing him, but he cant seem to form the words to say it, instead the mans words bury themselves like daggers under his skin and only make his hyperventilating worse.

that hospital trip wasnt fun. harv was angry, impatient, the entire time. he had the official that defended him and mack at his side the whole time, after the official informed the nurse that the teenagers agent should not be allowed into the room the man simply paced outside the door, occasionally peering through the small window to glare at the three.

lightning was plagued with guilt, and profusely apologized to mack for the disappointment. the trucker insisted he shouldnt apologize, it wasnt his fault — he just wishes the kid had told them that his cooling equipment had broken so they couldve fixed it and not had to have experienced this kind of hospital trip.

Tom is Alicia Florrick eldest sister coded. He must be perfect he must not be a burden if he causes any issues at all it will rock the boat and he does not want yo rock the boat. If he excels he will stand out and be appreciated. He must be good. He cannot be perfect (gay) so he must be ya know? His parents have been on the precipice of divorce for a decade by the time he’s 17 (he’s been rooting for them to get it over and done with since he was 11). They don’t need any of his shit to deal with too. Sarah on the other hand is younger sister coded. She has her own shit going on. Unlike ice she didn’t realize divorce was on the horizon until it was right in front of her and an already rebellious streak was exacerbated. She’s an emotions first consequences second kind of person and can be a little selfish although can you really blame her? Amy is the true youngest sister but she’s got that bonus baby ten years younger than her siblings thing happening. Ice and Sarah are super different but have a forged in fire closeness. Amy is just kinda vibing outside of them. She grew up with her parents divorce being a done deal by her 6th birthday and thus in a much chiller environment. Ice left huge expectations and Sarah left none so whatever Amy did was good enough. She feels a little left out and left behind sometimes but only when reminded that she’s not like actually an only child. At 34 Ice is a USNA grad like his father with an exceedingly impressive career and huge things to come but with no wife or girlfriend to show for it. At 31 Sarah is finding her footing after a bit of a wild 20s with a nursing degree and job. At 22 Amy is going to grad school for writing thinking how lucky she is Sarah turned her back on the navy and rotc back then. It’s made her parents much more accepting of a theater degree.

spider, before even befriending ao'nung, being so tiny and fleshy and fragile, putting the other boys big brother mode into overdrive.

like he can barely stand the kid, but he can't help but like.... linger next to him.... sling an arm over his shoulder.... muscle memory from tsireya makes him just instinctually pick him up and away from danger.

and he's embarrassed, cause he 'hates' this human, he's one of the demons, why should he protect him. but also, like, he's embarrassed by his own internal monologue: look at him, he's just tiny, so tiny, have to take care of him. just a baby, a little baby, so fragile, so defenseless. he's not that bad, he's kinda sweet, sweet baby.

he hates it so fucking much, cause he keeps doing the stupidest, bug brother shit he can, and spider keeps looking at him strange, cause it's like the second they're around each other all common sense flies out the window like a trapped banshee, and ao'nung wants to die.

His feet stamped beneath him through the stone halls. He probably shouldn't be running here, in case he were to bump into someone, but he pushed the thought back, feeling the chase, in this situation, far more important. A laugh hiccupped out from behind a big smile as excitement flared up within.

Turning a corner sharply, Faramir found an empty hall with tall grey-white columns, and some wider round fountain-like features. Perfect for hiding around.

He could just hear the footsteps of another, heavier one approach as he ducked behind one of the pools.

There was heavy breathing and he knew the other must have been running hard to catch up. Faramir felt a hidden thrill and pride in his heart, that his brother had had to toil so arduously. He remained where he was.

"Little brother." So he knew he was here, then. "Where are you hiding?"

Faramir almost giggled with the nerves. He sensed his brother searching around the poles on the other side of the room.

"Here I am! And you are too slow." He jumped up and ran away, laughing at the expression Boromir had given in surprise.

"Back here, you little-! I will show you who is slow in the end!"

Faramir trusted in his quick feet now to get ahead, but after a few more twists and turns he could hear the thunderous feet gaining. He said nothing but put all his focus on willing his own legs to be faster, be stronger, be--

"Got you!" Boromir lifted him bodily off the ground as Faramir squealed a laugh, his legs kicking into empty air and he struggled against the bearhug which was enveloping him.

Boromir chuckled and held tight, peering round to enjoy the victory while Faramir squirmed. "You are not quite the better of me yet, little brother."

Then the younger relinquished with a sigh. "Perhaps not. But then again, maybe..."

"You disagree?"

"You are certainly faster, as you've shown. You clearly have the victory when the test requires the brutish qualities of a mountain man..."

"You--!" At that accusatory shout the older brother immediately squeezed his fingers into the soft fleshy parts of his captive that he could reach.

"Bahahaha--! B-boromihihiiir!" Faramir's façade crumbled under the touch of those firm and knowing fingers. They pressed into all the little bony grooves between his lowest ribs, and the softness of his flanks, making him spring away as if he had been burned, to no avail. He remained trapped within the tight hold of his brother's arms.

"You know this is the penalty for treason in my court, little brother!"

"Pleasehahaha! Dohohon't tickleeeee!" The younger boy squealed as Boromir's fingers found a deeper area to prod.

"You've been devising this all day." Boromir chuckled softly. "Why have you been ghosting my steps, poking and provoking me, annoying me, if not to fall victim to my secret weapon?"

Faramir did and said nothing, except kick and struggle and laugh until little droplets appeared at the corners of his eyes. He knew what the other said was true.

"I know you can speak, Faramir." His older brother knew him well. "Now come, and face your trial!"

"Whehehehen you ahare the only juhuhury!" Faramir gave up the pretense incredulously.

"Yes, now how do you plead?!" Boromir dug his fingers in deeper towards his brother's soft belly.

"NOT GUIHIHIHIHILTYYYYYHEHEHEHEEEE!"

"Do you wish to be imprisoned forever? My arms are getting tired. Don't make me put you on the floor. I know some other places which will have you crying out for mercy."

An image of Faramir's hips and then his knees flashed across his own mind. He had been victim to many an assault there by his older brother in the past.

"Now how do you plead?" Boromir's nails were gaining some purchase near his navel.

"GUIHILTY, GUILTYYHEHEHEHE!"

As soon as the concession was made Boromir placed the younger carefully down on the ground, though his knees wobbled and he immediately fell in a heap.

Faramir's raggedy breathing and twitchiness made Boromir laugh. He sometimes wished he could be more like the other, and less of the 'brutish mountain-man'. But as long as he could have this, he would never complain.

After some time Faramir opened his eyes and brought himself up to sit next to his attacker, with a small smile still on his face.

"I wasn't really annoying you, was I?

Boromir was taken aback for an instant, before he remembered who he was talking with, and the ways that boy's mind would dwell. They were, at times, so different.

"Not at all. I was teasing." He laughed and ruffled Faramir's fine hair. "I will always take joy chasing you, and catching you!"

"Don't expect that to last for long. I think I may outpace you soon enough." Faramir betrayed a laugh behind his smile.

Boromir did the same, and pulled an arm round Faramir's slight shoulders. "That may well be, little brother. But not today."

@snowshinobi Hiiiii :3 I'm responding to your tags on a new post and not the original since the original was already somewhat lengthy, and I plan on being LONG and RAMBLY, but I have sooo many thoughts on what you said and I'm going to say them. Also my browser crashed TWICE (TWO TIMES. 2) when trying to write this post so I'm really fighting for my life out here to get my silly little OC posts done. Also it's under the cut because it's looooong as hell LMAO

Firstly, you're so nice to me forever <3 Secondly, I think you've basically hit the nail on the head. The majority of the issues Maggie has coming back from death and her 9 years gone are really tied almost exclusively to her close family, because she... never really had anyone else. While in-universe it's only 9 years, realistically the jump in technology and culture is around ~20-30 years (Maggie died in the 90s/early 2000s essentially, and wakes up in a just barely futuristic city), but... the most jarring thing to her in terms of what she missed out on is just. Flipphones are no longer popular. Other than her family, she's only close with one other person... who just so happens to be a ghost, and therefore both 1. Wouldn't change much over the timespan due to how long she's been a ghost and 2. Unlike her family, was aware that something happened, since she could see the ghost-of-a-ghost Maggie left behind (The ghosts name is Opal, she positions herself as a sort of "guardian angel" figure, though she's not actually, and serves as just another parental figure for Maggie while also getting after the ghosts that constantly harass her to pass on messages to the living). Maggie has no real relationships outside of her family, and while her relationships with her family are massively impacted by her unknowing death, other than that... the timeskip itself doesn't weigh on her because she had no one regardless. Her struggle to adjust to everything thats happened would've happened regardless of the timeskip for her, because she was such an isolated shut-in that it's the same whether it happened the next day, or nearly a full decade later

So another very interesting thing is that you've actually completely seen where I was going with everything, in spite of everything I said being very surface level and not actually delving into the plot at all. I completely skimmed over Jenna (She's very important to the plot, but she's by in large a regular person as opposed to Maggie's... everything), but for some additional context, Jenna has a horrendously shitty homelife, so her moving in with Maggie is both a gradual process (It goes from spending time there, to spending nights, to eventually just never going back home and moving in fully), and also serves as an escape for her. Part of that is also, so vitally, the food aspect. For some additional additional context, souls essentially serve as a persons lifeforce, practically every bodily function is improved by a soul that's stronger, though the "strength" of a soul is essentially entirely random, and not dependent on the individuals actions of any kind. Maggie had a generally weird soul before (Seeing ghosts inherently means she has to have something going on with her soul), but when she wakes up after her death, her soul is now even weirder, and part of that is that it essentially lets her get away with bad habits she absolutely should be seeing more consequences for. She barely eats, and when she does, it's basically exclusively crackers and whatever other safe foods she has around the house, because actually making food is a level of care and effort she just... doesn't give to herself in the slightest. Part of Jenna staying with her is that Jenna, without really discussing it, entirely takes up the mantle of caretaker of the apartment, with the biggest task being food prep, Jenna sees Maggie's unwillingness to take care of herself and silently steps up and starts making her actual meals so she's eating properly.

The problem is is that this also kinda... just straight up sucks? Jenna doesn't think much of it, it's something that needed to be done so she's doing it, she wants Maggie to be well fed even if she won't do it herself, and she's already been responsible for making all of her own meals for years prior anyways, so it's just another thing she does. Except that's shitty! Maggie's seen firsthand how terrible her homelife is, and it really weighs on her how even in her escape from that, Jenna's still being put in a position where she feels like she must care for her or else she just won't eat properly. So food is such a massively important thing to both of them, it's this symbol of love for both of them, it's love on the part of Jenna, for stepping in and taking care of Maggie when she can't do it herself, and it's love on the part of Maggie, for realizing how her own bad habits impact the people she cares about and wanting to lift that weight by taking care of herself better. It's also very vital for Maggie because she just... doesn't... have hobbies. Learning how to cook becomes really her only hobby and she puts all of her love and care into it, because for the first time in a long while she's actually passionate about something! ...Unfortunately she also is very very bad at it. She's inventing new dishes like "Burnt Salad" and "Please Help I Fucked Up Kraft Mac N Cheese" and still having to have Jenna come in and help her. But it's the thought that counts, and it'll only be a matter of time before she can make something vaguely edible.

And finally, the stuff about names! I didn't post it here, but while idly talking about her in a Discord server I'm in, I definitely think that had I made Maggie like even a few months later than I would've done she would've been nonbinary. As it stands right now though, I'm saying she's probably some form of genderweird but too busy trying not to die to think about it <3 Growing up knowing that ghosts are real and routinely being shut down by authority figures in her life about it has made her very aware of how bullshit a lot of things are and how the people who claim to be knowledgeable tend to not know what they're talking about (Beyond just the "people don't think ghosts are real", she's also got ghosts willing to tell her when people are lying because they've got nothing better to do than just gossip) , so if she spent even just a moment thinking about gender as a social construct she'd instantly recognize that and probably take up some form of genderweird label, but as it stands she's just too stressed with Being The Protagonist to think about that

Now, the thing with Margaret. I'm not even going to lie to you, I think you made a better connection to how a name connects with community in terms of the narrative themes than I did. The thing with Margaret denying the name "Maggie" existed for two reasons, the in-universe explanation is that, with the little scrap of soul Margaret has leftover from Maggie, it's essentially working overtime just to keep her vitals working, it can't dedicate time and energy to making her an individual with preferences and a personality, so part of that is that she doesn't respond to "Maggie" because ultimately, that is not her name. Her name is Margaret and she's not going to respond to "Maggie" because "Maggie" isn't her name. Of course, out of universe the reasoning is that I wanted an easy way to distinguish between Maggie as she is the protagonist, and the version of her that lived in the years she was gone, so different names makes the most sense.

I think your connection to how name relates to community genuinely works on a level I hadn't fully pieced together myself yet and I really love that because I think that absolutely works with everything. One of the main conflicts of the plot is how Maggie is entirely disconnected from her family thanks to the years she was gone, with Margaret having no priorities beyond "survive", she basically never spoke with her parents or brother for years. While her family tried to reach out to her repeatedly (Especially given that, while they're unaware the truth of what happened the night Maggie was murdered, they do know something happened, and they believe that whatever it was severely traumatized her, and that's where the sudden and drastic shift in personality came from), there's a point where they just... gave up. She wasn't trying to talk with them or contact them in the slightest, so around a year or two after Margaret moved out, her parents gave up on her. Her brother would still be there a bit, but he also didn't really... try... anymore.

When Maggie wakes up, she tries to call her parents... and they don't pick up. They'd grown resentful over the years, and now that Maggie wants to talk to them, they don't forgive her for the years of not speaking to them, and aren't interested in whatever she has to say after nearly a decade of trying to reconnect with her and being met with nothing. It's her insistence that she wants to be called Maggie that actually gets her brother to realize she's telling the truth and that something happened. She shows up at his door, already something that Margaret wouldn't have done, and that combined with her being visibly upset when he calls her Margaret and tells him that's not her and that she's Maggie, it signals to him that whatever's going on is real (...though he would've figured this out eventually, given that she also literally 17 again and not in her mid-20s, and has a giant glowing stab wound in her chest). I think it works absolutely perfectly as being a symbol of community, her disconnect from her community is what led to her being called Margaret, and her desperation to be returned to that community is when she's Maggie again. So uh. Congrats on getting the themes of my OCs better than I did <3

And uhhhh closing thoughts! I honestly did still skim over the majority of the plot (Literally never even mentioned Eli or what's going on with her stab wound </3), but I think you reeeeally hit the nail on the head with everything I'm kinda getting at with these OCs, which is... frankly wild given how little main plot I actually got at. Basically everything I mentioned in my original post was the setup, not the main plot. But waaaaugh thank you for being so niceys to me and also giving me another excuse to ramble endlessly <3
