The boat sped through the choppy waters, the roar of the engine and the salty wind stinging their faces. Steve, Kaili, and Sam had made it to an abandoned pier after narrowly escaping the chaos of the last few moments. They climbed out of the boat and sprinted down a narrow street, their boots pounding against the wet pavement, eyes darting in all directions.

"I'm telling you, he's not far. I can feel it," Sam muttered as he scanned the area, his brow furrowed in concentration.

"Yeah, well, feel faster," Kaili shot back, slightly out of breath from the chase.

They rounded a corner, and what they saw made their hearts drop. There, just ahead, were several guards, clearly struggling to keep Bucky restrained. But it wasn't just a struggle—it was chaos.

Bucky, now the Winter Soldier again, was tearing through the guards with brutal precision. His movements were fast, calculated, like a machine. He took down one guard, then another, his eyes locked on each target with cold determination. It was terrifying, and Steve's heart skipped a beat.

"Bucky!" Steve shouted, trying to get his attention, but Bucky didn't seem to hear him. The Winter Soldier was in full control now, and nothing was going to stop him.

The guards continued to try and restrain him, but their efforts were futile. Sam glanced at Kaili. They both knew they had only one option—stop him before he took everyone down. They rushed forward, both of them going for Bucky with an equal sense of urgency.

"I've got him!" Kaili called out to Sam, her voice carrying over the sounds of the scuffle.

"Not if I get to him first!" Sam retorted, launching himself into the fray.

In a flurry of punches, kicks, and expertly timed grabs, they finally managed to subdue Bucky—though not without a few bruises of their own. Sam had to restrain Bucky's arms while Kaili kicked his legs out from under him, knocking the Winter Soldier onto the ground. With a well-placed move, Steve knocked Bucky's head against the concrete, rendering him unconscious for a moment. They wasted no time, quickly binding his arms and legs with whatever makeshift rope they could find in the vicinity.

They took Bucky to an old, abandoned warehouse nearby. It was dark, its walls lined with decaying remnants of the past. The air smelled musty, a stark contrast to the action they had just left behind. Sam, Kaili, and Steve dropped down onto nearby crates, their eyes constantly flicking back to the restrained Bucky, who remained unconscious for now.

Kaili leaned against the wall, wiping her forehead. "Well, that was fun," she muttered, looking over at Sam. "Really got the blood pumping."

"Tell me about it," Sam replied, trying to catch his breath. "You know, I'm starting to think we might need a vacation after all this. Somewhere without, you know, 'capturing old friends' on the itinerary."

Kaili shot him a wry grin. "You sure you're not just afraid of getting your wings dirty again?"

"Shut up," Sam grumbled, though his tone was playful.

Steve, on the other hand, had moved to stand beside Bucky's restrained body, his face etched with a mixture of concern and exhaustion. He crouched down next to his old friend and reached out to carefully tilt Bucky's head back. "He's still out cold. But when he wakes up... it's anyone's guess."

Kaili shot a glance at Sam. "You mean we're just gonna sit here and wait? That's your brilliant plan?"

"Not quite," Steve muttered. "But there's no other choice. We'll see what happens."

Moments passed. Steve remained at Bucky's side, watching as his old friend slowly started to stir. Bucky groaned, his eyes fluttering open, and his vision blurred for a few seconds before finally focusing on Steve's face. His expression was one of confusion at first, the cold haze of the Winter Soldier starting to fade as he blinked a few times.

Steve's voice was calm, but there was a weight to it. "Bucky... which one am I talking to?"

Bucky's gaze flickered toward him, his features still frozen in that familiar, distant look. Then, as if some veil was lifted, he said, almost as though it were instinct: "Your mom's name was Sarah."

Steve froze, his heart lurching in his chest. A brief, almost imperceptible flicker of recognition passed between them—Bucky, the real Bucky, the one Steve had known and fought beside for years, was back.

It was a moment of relief and realization. "It's you," Steve whispered. His voice was softer now, a mixture of both disbelief and hope. He trusted Bucky again, and that trust was what allowed him to let go of the anger, the fear. He had his friend back.

But then, Sam couldn't help himself. He broke the tension with a smirk. "Just like that, we're just gonna trust him?" He raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing but still cautious. "Like we haven't been burned before."

Kaili, who had been standing off to the side, crossed her arms and added with a dry chuckle, "Yeah, just because he remembers your mom's name doesn't mean we're supposed to forget all the other stuff. I'm just saying, trust, Steve. It's a fine line."

Steve shot them both an exasperated but fond look, clearly torn between frustration and affection for his friends. "He's still Bucky," Steve said firmly, looking back down at his old friend, who was now starting to focus a bit more.

Bucky, still groggy but clearly aware of what was happening, gave a weak smile. "You all talk too much."

Sam shrugged, grinning. "What can we say? It's a defense mechanism."

Kaili laughed, though it was a little less lighthearted. "Yeah, well, I'm still keeping my eyes on you, Barnes. No offense."

Steve let out a breath, shaking his head but feeling the weight of the moment lift a little. "We'll figure it out," he said, his voice more certain now, as he patted Bucky's shoulder gently. "But we have him back."

The mood was light as Steve drove the vintage small car, the kind that looked like something out of a 70s crime drama. It had just enough room for all of them, though everyone was packed in a little too tight. Sam was in the passenger seat, arms crossed, glancing over at Steve with a half-sarcastic grin.

"You know, Steve, I don't know if this is a statement about your taste in cars or just your ability to make questionable choices. But, hey, I guess we're making the most of it, right?"

Kaili, wedged in the back with Bucky, snorted. "Yeah, right. It's like driving a lunchbox on wheels. At least we'll be the safest people in the world, though—no one's gonna hit this thing." She shot Sam a teasing look. "It'll probably run out of gas before anyone gets a chance to catch up."

Sam shot her a look over his shoulder. "I'm starting to think I need to be in charge of car decisions from now on. You both clearly have no taste."

"Hey," Steve interjected, glancing at Sam from the rearview mirror. "I'll have you know this is a classic. You wouldn't understand."

Kaili and Sam exchanged a knowing look. "Sure, Steve," Sam quipped. "It's a classic... like that questionable 90s fashion trend you tried to pull off last year."

Kaili grinned. "Ooh, burn. Bet he can't argue with that."

"Alright, alright, enough about the car," Steve said, rolling his eyes, though he was clearly fighting a smile. "We've got work to do."

In the vintage car, the mood had shifted to a comfortable quiet as Steve parked. Sam was sprawled in the passenger seat, his long legs stretching out in an attempt to get comfortable, while Kaili sat behind him, her arms folded across her chest as she leaned against the window. Bucky, in the back, sat with his arms crossed, staring straight ahead, though a noticeable tension remained in his shoulders.

Bucky let out an exaggerated sigh, shifting his weight to try to find a more comfortable position. "Can you move your seat up?" he grumbled, squinting at the cramped space.

"No," came Sam's grumpy response from the front seat, his voice low but firm. He hadn't moved an inch.

Kaili stifled a laugh and raised an eyebrow. "We're all in here together, Bucky. If you could just scooch up—"

"Yeah, and we'll all be just as uncomfortable as you," Sam finished, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Bucky didn't respond. He just gave a small grunt and leaned back further, as if daring them to say anything else. The car's small interior felt even more claustrophobic in the silence.

Outside, Steve was talking to Sharon, who had already opened the trunk of the car, unloading their items. It was obvious she'd been the one to get the shield and wings back for them, and now she was handing them over to Steve with a quiet, almost intimate smile.

Kaili glanced through the rearview mirror and exchanged a look with Sam. They both rolled their eyes dramatically when Sharon leaned in and kissed Steve, brief but clear. They couldn't hear the words, but they could certainly see it all.

Sam turned to Kaili, unable to keep the sarcasm from his voice. "And here we go again..."

Kaili, not missing a beat, scoffed, "Didn't think we'd be treated to a full-on rom-com scene in the middle of a mission, but hey, here we are."

Bucky, though silent as always, couldn't help but offer a small, almost imperceptible smile at the sight of Steve and Sharon. It was faint, and it didn't last long, but it was there.

Kaili and Sam noticed it, and Sam raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Okay, I see you, Barnes. Big softie under that brooding exterior, huh?"

Kaili chuckled, nudging Sam. "Oh, I'm sure he'll deny it. Just don't make him say it out loud."

They both turned their attention back to the mirror, where Steve and Sharon were still talking, oblivious to the banter happening in the car. Sam and Kaili exchanged an amused look, but Bucky just stared ahead, his small smile fading into his usual steely expression.

Then, Steve and Sharon pulled away from their brief kiss, and Sharon shot them a wink before turning to leave.

Kaili let out a long exhale, raising her arms dramatically. "Well, that's enough romance for one day. Can we go now?"

Sam nodded, a grin tugging at his lips. "Yeah, can we please get back to saving the world instead of... whatever that was?"

As Steve reentered the car, shrugging the shield onto his back, he glanced at the others in the car. "What?"

Kaili grinned. "Nothing. Just a little 'friendly' commentary from the peanut gallery."

Bucky, without saying a word, offered a subtle nod of approval toward Steve as he rejoined them. He didn't need to speak to show that, despite everything, he trusted Steve—and maybe, just maybe, he was glad to see his friend getting some normalcy amidst the chaos.

In this one, the team finally has a chance to regroup after all the chaos, and Bucky's awakening to his true self is a moment I've been looking forward to. There's tension, but there's also a lot of emotional moments as Kaili and Sam try to deal with the situation in their own sarcastic way.
