Requisite grouch about the representation of embroidery, particularly in Bridgerton. Season 3, Im just getting to. So I get the point of this little scene is "Eloise is not interested in conventional feminine topics and doesnt fit in with her peers, and we are doing this by showing disdain for embroidery" and I fully get that in the cultural consciousness embroidery is this frivolous nonsense that rich women did to keep busy and isnt worth anything.

But two things. One, as Ive said before, the Bridgerton costuming is full of embroidery, of the kind that has to be machine made. And Im not gonna talk about historical accuracy because I consider the costuming part of the shows premise ie something you just have to accept to enjoy the show because its central. Like you cant enjoy Dungeon Meshi if you have to know how its possible for magic and dungeons to exist, you just have to accept that its part of the setting.

So either the seamstress has a few machines shes using for the lavish embroidery or her cloth is extravagantly expensive beyond all reason. LIke even more than youre already thinking.

And these women are surrounded by it, making their trade with it, its literally built into their fashion. So scorn for it makes zero sense. Second, in this scene in particular at the ball. The dialogue goes, almost exactly:

"Well the leaf stitch is tried and true"

[I think Eloise says something]

"Then theres the running stitch, the straight stitch, the fern stitch, the French knot -"

"What's your favourite stitch Eloise?"

This is not how people talk about embroidery! Its not exciting because of the stitches that exist, its exciting for how you use the stitches and what shapes and textures you can make, and how you manipulate the thread and fabric to create all kinds of interesting effects and patterns. And I fully understand that someone can be bored by that, its not for everyone. Im just mad that their "this is a normal conversation about embroidery" is listing stitching and asking someone their favourite. They could have done something like

"I just learned a new stitch, its called the split stitch, and it has this really cool effect that makes the thread look like its knitted, so Im embroidering my dog with this technique to really capture his fur, and im using French knots for his little beady eyes, and then Im gonna use the split stitch and this gorgeous russet floss to make him the coziest little sweater!"

"Oh my god I do not want to hear another thing about your thread dog and its fake thready sweater."

Thats like, a real conversation someone might have that someone else could find boring, and its respectful - and realistic - to the hobby and craft and art of embroidery! It sounds like something a human might say. Not "here are some stitch names, wait why are you being rude?". Its like imitating a conversation about someones dog like "and he has paws and his paws have nails and then he has knees and then he has two eyes and a tail" thats not how people talk about dogs! you might see "his tail is so waggy, and his eyes are so soulful, and his little feet are the cutest thing, let me tell you a story -". We couldve had a story about an embroidery mishap, that could be funny.

but no we must hold onto old outdated and sexist ideas about things and disdain them for no good reason while our costume department is embroidering everything because lets not examine any of our attitudes about anything!

The worst was still the dressmaker last season complaining about ladies and their embroidery MAAM THATS LITERALLY YOUR JOB. Ok now I can go back to watching for the pretties. And I very much admire Colin's big swooshy coat.

Im also trying to work out if Cressida is sapphic. Eloise and Pen absolutely have "middle grade sapphic friends have strangely intense friendship and then huge strangely intense breakup fight," and looks like Pen is bi, but Im really hoping they properly go into queer themes with Eloise and not just sign her up for a guy later. Also pretty sure the latest Bridgerton this season - Francesca? - is ace. Big ace vibes on her.

I'm not the one doing ghost notes, but I did want to point out that your methodology is very heavily biased to paint Dean in a favorable light. Ex: saying that Dean threatening to kill Jack is just him "threatening to stop Jack." You also give wildly different actions the same weight. Ex: you put Sam training Jack how to hunt in the same category as Dean threatening to kill Jack. I LOVE Dean, but he's pretty much just straight up abusive towards Jack. imo that makes him a very interesting character with a lot to analyze, but it also objectively makes him a terrible parent.

okay these are the two main criticisms of the "Parenting Jack" tab of my notes doc and I want to take them seriously because I think there's good points here even if I don't totally agree.

so, starting off, I said within that tab that judging "good" or "bad" parenting is subjective and that I'm trying my best and /open to specific feedback/! but i think samfreak has a point that a list of criteria would be good to include in terms of methodology. so i'll be working to update it to include that!

i think anon brings up a good point (and i've seen it in the reblogs as well) that things that have wildly different impacts are weighted the same. unfortunately, doing quick number-based summaries can have that effect which is why i tried to include descriptions of the events so 1. people can make their own decisions and 2. reference specific moments when they talk to me about my notes. i apologize that my somewhat glib addition to the pole seems like im trying to make that the whole story; i'm not!

now to the places where i disagree. i think anon's claim that dean is "abusive" is one of the most frustrating ones that gets thrown around fandom and honestly as a survivor of domestic abuse, it really bums me out. when people make this claim, they often point to episodes 1-5 of season 13 and episode 20 of season 14. Others have gone into far, far more detail than I'm going to right now but I want to be clear that by the time Dean met Jack, Jack had already been responsible for two deaths (and indirectly responsible for another supposed death). These actions seemed conscious and intentional. Dean's previous experience with a being who came into the world as a powerful baby and grew up fast and brainwashed and controlled people (including Dean) was Amara and she was deeply harmful to the world and to Dean personally. I just simply cannot get on board with the idea that Dean was somehow supposed to witness all of jack's actions in 12.19, 12.23, and 13.01 and not be incredibly worried. Go back and watch what Dean says in 12.20 about feeling like Cas was being brainwashed and please tell me how Dean is just supposed to turn those fears off. there is also no argument that will convince me that telling a very, very powerful being that you will be the one to stop them if they start hurting people is abusive.

the refutation i have for 14.20 is much shorter. dean didn't want to kill jack. he didn't want to kill jack because he killed mary. he didn't want to kill jack but god was telling dean jack would end the world. and dean wants to save the world. people flatten it like it was all petty revenge and anger and not like a desperate, desolate last resort (and one he's been willing to with for sam too if it came it it (5.22, 6.11, 9.10)). and if you look at the notes on that pole, you will see the common issue that people also like to forget that sam also wanted to lock jack in the malak box or that cas wanted to lock him in the cage etc etc. that wasn't a situation any of them felt equipped to handle and there was violence in all of their responses.

finally, samfreak brings up character's attitudes in general and not just one of moments. that was actually one of the most interesting parts of doing these notes was realizing just how much sam's relationship with jack is based in training him to hunt. from his initial moments trying to teach jack to use his powers (so they can go save mary and despite jack not wanting to), to telling Jack that doing a good job on the hunt will be what impresses Dean, to having him train with AU Bobby once Lucifer takes his grace, to that haunting line in 15.18 when Sam tells Jack he has to drive cause Sam has work to do and Jack says he's only driven one time. I found it all a little gutting to be honest.

I think people are focusing a lot on the "good" vs "bad" columns (thats my bad on the framing for sure) and not enough on the pushing jack to hunt column. because as soon as dean realizes jack is just a kid (and i've talked beofre about this the moment this shift happens), his whole attitude changes and stays very consistently aimed at treating jack like a kid and not pushing him to hunt.

the dichotomy of those two attitudes is what most informs my opinion of their different parenting of jack.

- rebecca's scenes being too quick, all used to support characters in need. sure, we got a lot of vulnerability in episode 6, but the 180 from that to barely anything... not feeling it

- ted wanting to hire a private investigator? i know he's hung up on michelle and dr jacob but, man, what an uncharacteristic action

* i think my main grievance is the divergence from routine ted lasso style film. happy go lucky, dramatized character voices, + more to low voices, wisdom, close-ups. its a little too human for me. a little too raw. i tend to dislike episodes similar to this one, like no weddings and a funeral, though that was more tolerable (? hell of a word, it was more than tolerable but whatever)

4. Jargyle

i mean, it’s cute, but there is very little evidence for this happening. the only reason i could see the writers doing it would be to give jonathan another love interest after a likely jancy breakup. I mean, neither of them seem the most straight to me, but not in a way that makes it seem that their relationship could be anything more than platonic. besides, if half of the ships on this list end up being canon, when you add it to the other canon ships, then adding jargyle would really make it a bit cramped in the romance department

3. Ronance

the chemistry is there! nancy and robin are looking at eachother in those posters, the same way all the other (basically) canon ships are. it might be a thing relating to getting the other person unvecna’d, but then it’s kinda weird that jopper is doing it. also, i feel like nancy being queer could also lead to some actual sibling bonding with you-know-who. good vibes here all around, plus it’s one of my favorite w/w ships ever!

however, there are some things that make me less sure it’ll happen. first of all, vickie. the only reasons i see robin and vickie not happening is A. vickie dies (lame), or B. vickie doesn’t like girls (unlikely). from the way it’s been building up it’s nigh impossible some sort of romantic confrontation (or something like that) between them won’t happen, and it would be kinda weird if it was built of that robin liked vickie only for her to end up with nancy, unless vickie dies, which would be not very cool (but i could see happening in vol 2).

second of all, i have a feeling nancy is gonna die, if not in vol2 then in season 5. but that’s an entire other post, so i won’t say much else. i’d really like this ship to happen, but i won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

2. Steddie (bisexual steve)

steddie just makes sense for a lot of reasons! steve having an arc where he realizes he’s bisexual has been set up SO well, it works perfectly with his character, it would be a shame if it were wasted. eddie is heavily gay/queer coded, making it perfect for steve to realize things about himself. plus, it would be perfect for the kids to have someone they already look up to be queer, and make them more comfortable with themselves. im about 75% sure that steve is bisexual.

the only problem here is that eddie has some massive death flags in vol2. i really don’t want this to happen, but i can’t ignore the signs. but if he DOES survive vol2, then i believe it’s extremely likely we’ll get steddie in s5. if he doesn’t live, then it’s possible that steve could end up with jonathan, bc of the likely jancy breakup and the fact that it would be poor writing if stancy got back together. i think we’ll for sure see some queer steve stuff in s5.

1. Byler

it’s happening 100%. i have never been this confident in a queer ship (or any ship for that matter) before. i am so confident in byler happening that i am going to schedule a post on july 1st celebrating it. there is no doubt in my mind. too me it’s so obvious it’s happening that i feel like it’s redundant to explain to anybody who’s seen the show why. there are so many reasons (both external and internal) why byler is going to happen that im not even going to list them, just watch the show.

the question is not IF byler is happening, but WHEN byler is happening. In my opinion it would be better if they are established by the end of vol2, not only to haze out the homophobes early, but to give the relationship time to grow so we can see them as a fully fledged couple in s5 before it ends. there are other reasons, but those are the main ones. however i could also see the writers not having them get together yet, and only confirm that they both have feelings for eachother so they can get together early/mid s5 and we can watch them navigate a new relationship and what it means.

Alright these are the ones I've been listening to most recently. They're not all perfect by any means but who give a shit, we're getting frightened for fun. Watch out for like content warnings and stuff cuz they all get pretty gnarly!! listener discretion is advised!

(I'd say Spooked is the tamest one on this list as far as graphic/potentially triggering stuff goes but it's still quite. spooky)

Old Gods of Appalachia - Overall I'd recommend this one the most i think.The narrator has a really cool voice, it's set throughout Appalachia which is neat, the stories are interesting. Idk how else to describe it its like being read fucked up gruesome campfire stories in the woods

Snap Judgement Presents: Spooked - This one's from people actually describing supernatural encounters they claim to have had; idk how much i personally believe but idc it doesnt matter cuz it's good! The podcast host guy's a lotta fun too

I Am In Eskew - Very bleak and bizarre--not to be reductive but if Welcome to Night Vale was played for just straight-up surreal horror? you'd get something kinda like this. fucked up scary town where bad weird shit happens, particularly to this one very tired british guy. there's rain sounds the whole time (in fiction its always raining) so its sorta oddly soothing

SCP Archives (the one by Bloody Disgusting Podcast Network) - started this one the other day. Hadn't looked into SCP stuff in awhile but I'm liking it so far! my enjoyment varies from episode to episode and the voice acting can be a bit hammy but If you're someone who likes the whole SCP thing I say check it out (look up SCP if you have no fuckin idea what im talking about)

The Magnus Archives - (yes this one is just a tad overhyped at this point but I gotta at least mention it) I binge-listened to almost all of it last year but I prefer more anthology type stuff so I kinda lost interest as it started leaning more story-heavy. I can confidently recommend at least the first few seasons cuz it has some real good horror stories that really did fuck me up.

homura of course! across 3 seasons and a movie i think jyushimatsu falls in love is one of the best episodes of osomatsu to date. its one of those episoes that makes you go "waow! those writers really know how to compose an episode of television!"

1. Ah, yes. Hades' dog. Cerberus. Guardian of the Underworld. And over there, we have Hades' other dogs that serve as a comic relief and/or to make Hades look like a dog dad.

Rachel literally cannot come up with original names for anything. It's so sad.

2. rachel is so bad at actually aligning the gods to proper colors and symbolism that dionysus will probably be neon orange with purple splotches and she'll claim its some genius "twist" on semele's human skin and zeus's ... whatever he is. also no leaves or grapes because that doesnt fit the ~modern aesthetic~

3. have any of you guys watched OSP? RS "borrowed" most of her ideas from them too, especially in regards to her depiction of Hades, Zeus, and Demeter.

From OP: RS probably got most of her ideas off of tumblr tbh. She was on tumblr for a long time so it wouldn’t be surprising if it rubbed off on her.

4. LMAO that's also it like basically every god including hades was in some way related to different times of fertility. zeus was both biologically and nature via rain, demeter was for mothers, food, and the earth, hera for the period cycle and motherhood, and the list goes on and on. even as that other person said the "maidens" also were fertility, artemis and hecate especially. if anything being a fertility deity is one of the least rare things to be, but why would rachel know that 🙄

5. correct me if im wrong here, but didnt most ancient art of persephone depict her as "queenly" so ... as an adult? like she was supposed to look similar aged to hades and the rest of the olympians, not so young like rachel depicts her. idk where she thought the queen of the dead should be a airheaded teenager, but whatever.

6. what i dont get is virginity as a concept is so misogynistic, yet rachel plays into it straight where no one questions why theres a whole society and scholarship around it, and persephone seems perfectly fine to keep it intact. until she all of sudden only has sexual feelings for hades, tho hades even shames her for seemingly not wanting to have sex (and also calls her a fertility goddess, so is it rare or not?) and i just, idk the whole idea is so dumb?? rachel why would you do this

7. if rachel's fans actually suggested/voted she add in persephone be assaulted i might throw up. why would anyone purposely ask for the lead character to be sexually assaulted because rachel wants her story to be more "serious" when she clearly cant depict it right and is using the actual assault in a disgusting way to push her romance along? if her fans suggested that theyre genuinely unwell. thats not ok.

8. IDK to me I think LO fails is because Rachel desperately is trying to make literal gods #Relatable and I just think that's not how the gods should be depicted? I'm not saying they can't have issues or flaws, but she doesn't even allow them that? They're all just boring archetypes? And because of this "Just Like Us" depiction is makes times it tries to be Fantasy (the AOW, Royal hierarchy, the Pom, Kronos, etc) it just doesn't mesh well at all and makes the world confusing over intriguing.

9. Honestly season one LO is kinda good? Don't get me wrong it DEFINITELY has it's flaws and shitty ideas but overall it was interesting and very cute in some episodes and there were more than 2 central characters. I agree with anon from previous posts that LO would have been so much better without "adult themes". Her take on toxic relationships and personal freedom would be enough in the light rom-com atmosphere and collage life(like it meant to be from the start). Ugh I'm so sad when I think about it, LO is such a shitshow in season 2 

10. Alright I'm seeing a lot of controversy I guess? Over the "sexy plant watering scene" and I'm gonna add my two cents on that as well as some other things of note.

1. The "Persephone waters plants in sexy lingerie" is a weird scene - because of the framing. One anon was wondering what's wrong with watering your plants in your undies - its nothing, theres no issue there. The issue (to me) is the way the narrative frames the scene: Thetis accuses Persephone of murder and of wanting to be romantically involved with Hades (despite knowing of his relationship with Minthe) and the scene shifts to Perse watering minthe the plant in lingerie. The reason it comes off as weird is because A). This is Thetis's recounting of events, so its not accurate and B). It feels as though the Only reason this shot was in the comic at all was because RS wanted another "girlboss" moment with Persephone looking sexy and being nearly naked (once again) and flaunting her power over Minthe via watering her while wearing lingerie as a way of saying "look who has the power here. I'm wandering around the place that could've been yours AND im f*cking your boyfriend/would-be husband"

(It feels like in Thetis version Persephone is some kind of sexy seductress villain but really RS just wanted to sexualize Perse again).

2. The narrative sometimes frames things oddly and that causes a disconnect. Like the scene (not sure which chapter) where Hades takes Persephone shopping and though she doesn't feel comfortable / doesn't want to have sex with him, she still asks him "dont you want me" and (again, to me anyway) it feels as though theres this gross unspoken message there of Persephone saying "dont you want me (even though im damaged goods / have been damaged / been used by somebody else) even though Hades has no knowledge of Persephones SA. It comes off as the only thing shes worried about (despite the SA just happening a week or so ago) is whether or not this new man who she barely knows will still be attracted to her / will want her after finding out shes been r*ped.

3. The more I read LO the more it feels as though every single character is really just an OC of RS's wearing Greek deity skin. Like as though RS wanted to tell a specific story but knew it might not have done well in its own so she slapped on a "Greek Myth / characters names" to boost the comics attention without actually doing any research into the culture. The characters feel as though they have Nothing in common with the actual Greek deities their supposedly based on and considering the few myths that Hades and Persephone Do show up in and in relation to LO's plot, I just dont understand Why their called by the Greek deities names. When was there Ever a myth where Persephone was on trial for murder? When did Hera - thw goddess of marriage and fidelity ever cheat on Zeus (espeically with his brother, Hades?) - (And yes, I know its a "modern retelling" but I feel as though there is a way to do that and incorporate themes / stories from the actual myths without making up nonsensical plot lines) The only reason I can think of for why their Greek deities is popularity purposes.

4. A while back someone came into one of my posts regarding my confusion over LO's trial plotline and they said that RS admitted she did not fully plan out the trial plot and is really just going week by week at this point (and I don't know if thats true or not) however! If it is true, then that feels like a huge oversight on her part as a writer. Most writers I know (myself included) like to have an outline for some plot points, maybe the beginning and end and then you fill in the gaps along the way. And I'm not saying you have plan out every single step to every chapter, but it seems like it would be a good thing to at least have some kind of idea or general direction for what happens during this arc in the story rather than flying by the seat of your pants, yeah? Wouldn't you want to have something a bit more concrete in mind when doing a so-called important story arc ?

5. I know this has been harped on again and again but, why why why would you have Persephone start off as a barely legal teenager whos just going into college vs the much much older business CEO who has rage issues and is into impressionable young women?

6. On another note: why does Persephone act as though being from Sicily is like the equivalent of someone from Georgia or Texas moving to New York as though (despite being a goddess) she acts as though she might be mocked for being some kind of "Greek god country bumpkin"?

7. The strange reinforcement / idea of a person (Perse in this case) Only being allowed to be attracted to her future husband and not being allowed to have any other connections or meaningful relationships, or experience especially considering her first "romantic" relationship started off with her being SA while on the flipside Hades (despite being hated by the underworld denizens) has connections and meaningful relationships outside of Persephone. Persephone has a strained relationship with her mother and her roommate / has little to no friends. Hades had Minthe, Hecate, the underworld, his business And his brothers to rely on. (Persephone doesn't seem to have much of a life outside of Hades while the opposite is not true).

8. I'm genuinely asking here - what do hades and Persephone like about each other? (Aside from each other's bodies). Sexual attraction is a thing but does Hades even know basic things about Persephone? Like her goals in life or ambitions, he'll her favorite food or color? (And because we Know their fated to be together / will get married) - Does he bother to get to know her friends or her mother (in a non antagonist way)?? Does he support her in any other way that has no relation to him and his needs?

9. In the printed novel version theres an extra chapter that (I think) is supposed to be Heras introduction / birthday party and Hades and Minthe show up. Hera has a vision of Hades getting married when he hands her a coat and she seema awfully excited about it - but why would she be? The chapter states that she cant see whos under the veil and considering hes currently dating Minthe wouldn't it be fair to assume hes marrying Minthe in this vision? And with how much Hera despises Minthe why would she be excited for Hades to be married unless she was 100% certain who he was marrying was not her? Also why would she be excited about him getting married if at that point, they were still having an off and on again affair? It just seems to raise more questions honestly.

🏮 Homeboy is DEDICATED so he puts in the time and ofc he still wants one after the fact

🏮 After a good amount of time, he comes back with a books worth of reasons as to why you guys should get one and you’re honestly shocked

🏮 You just can’t say no to those eyes </33 so you oblige and go out and get one from an owner who’s surrendering it (Because we don’t support chain pet stores in this household)

🏮 Anyways- he’s infatuated with them it’s so funny. He spends all of his freetime watching them get used to their new habitat like,,,, all of it. It’s 1am and he’s just watching it hang out and you’re like ‘Kiri if you love it so much then why don’t you sleep with it’ (not in that way ya nasty)

2020 in review: kdramas (the heart fluttering, the disappointing, the saviors of 2020)

it’s december 31st! the new year is quite literally upon us (some of y’all are already in 2021) and my procrastinating self has chosen to upload this today. i’ve always loved these rec lists and I wanted to do one for 2020! this year was a rollercoaster for kdramas with some excellent ones and some not so excellent ones. i watched all of these in 2020 but not all of them were released in 2020.

drama that made me laugh

When The Camellia Blooms (2019)

i finally got around to watching when the camellia blooms this year and it. was. so. funny. oh my goodness, the comedic timing in so many scenes was pure excellency and im kinda mad at myself that i didn’t watch this last year. this isn’t just a comedy for those who are interested, its a thriller/romance but its also so fucking funny. definitely watch this if you want to laugh (and be touched bc the emotional scenes in this one are beautiful)

drama that made me cry

Sweet Home (2020)

hahah….. um this one is gonna go to sweet home friends. i went into this one with zero expectations and the first couple episodes didn’t really wow me? but i kept watching and holy shit fam. this show really picks up story-wise around ep 4 and makes the viewer love a lot of these initially unlikable characters. all i can say is that the end was devastating for me and i cried quite a bit. (warning, there are a lot of mature themes in this one so make sure you look for trigger warnings or send me an ask and i’ll list them all out for you)

Itaewon Class (2020) 

i loved the ost for itaewon class!! the music is just so inspirational and pump up music, its so good. my favorites are ‘you make me back’ by woosung and ‘start’ by gaho.

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

we recognize this one as one of the best things to come out of 2020. go moon young and moon kang tae have some of the best chemistry i have ever seen in a drama couple. i waited on the edge of my seat every single week for the next couple of episode just so i could fawn over these two. they work so well together, lift each other up, and so fucking funny together and support one another. while they’re not the chillest couple (lmao) they’re most certainly one with the most personality. they’re so cute and bicker and they just get each other. who could ask for more.

Flower of Evil (2020)

our badass mom and dad 😭😭. this was another peak drama that came out this year and our married partners-in-crime-but-not-really had amazing chemistry. baek hee sung and cha ji won were so cute as a married couple but they were even more precious later on in the drama after certain things unfolded (no spoilers). they both just get each other and protected one another as well as on the most precious kdrama children this year, their daughter eunha. they were so wholesome, flower of evil is so very worth a watch.

Into The Ring (2020)

this was one of the more underappreciated kdramas of the year but hoo buddy was the main couples chemistry top notch. they were so friggin cute and i just couldn’t. goo se ra is highkey one of the best female characters i’ve ever seen, she’s absolute chaos, lawful chaos, but chaos nonetheless. her other half, seo gong myung is opposite from her as lawful neutral. he’s just along for the ride that is se ra and loves her. they’re both so very fond and protective of each other and back each other up!! very very cute and you’ll definitely replay more than a couple of their scenes together.

Record of Youth (2020)

it’s sad but true… i went into this one with so much hope and excitement (i was riding off that ‘psycho but its okay’ high) and i was vastly disappointed. the plot mostly focused on the male lead, and there wasn’t much characterization for the female lead which i didn’t like. honestly, i only cared about maybe 3-4? characters in the whole drama. the rest were absolutely terrible or plain boring and i ended up skipping eps 14 and 15 and just watched the finale. i would not recommend tbh.

Crash Landing on You (2019)

this one is absolutely on me, i want so badly to love this one. but i just… can’t seem to get past ep 2? i’ve tried!! i swear, but i just cannot get through it. maybe in 2021, i can try again and i’ll enjoy it more.

Kairos (2020)

i though kairos was a bit predictable tbh. i know those of us who did end up watching it really liked it but maybe its because i watch so many crime/mystery shows that this one didn’t really do it for me. the writing is quite solid and everything connects well, i would recommend that those who don’t really watch thrillers, to watch this one. (also the friendship between the female lead and her two friends is suuuper cute and worth it alone to watch kairos)

It’s Okay To Not Be Okay (2020)

yeah… this one wins again lol. what can i say, i just loved it so much and the main theme of the show is romance (its also a comedy and a mental health/healing drama) all i can say is watch this if you haven’t yet, its definitely worth it!!

Memorist (2020)  & Watcher (2019)

i really enjoyed these two mystery dramas. both were super fun to watch and very kinda unique in their own ways. i liked memorist because it was lowkey funny and i liked the relationships between the characters, but most importantly i couldn’t guess the main antagonist by the end! i really thought i knew who it was and then i was completely wrong lmao. watcher was also very good, the main trio had really good chemistry and i really cared about all the characters. (also i’ll never say no to watching seo kang joon) plus the plot twists threw me a bit at the end which is always a feeling i welcome, i love being surprised and wrong (as long as it makes sense)

Hospital Playlist (2020)

oh my goodness, i was late to the hospital playlist party and i regret it because this show is so. so. good. its just a slice of life following 5 friends who are doctors and work at the same hospital together but its so much more than that. this is honestly one of the first shows i’ve seen that are optimistic? in the show, every time i thought a plot was going to play out a certain way (usually negatively, as tends to be life unfortunately) it surprised me by taking the more optimistic wholesome route. characters in subplots changed for the better, became more understanding, chose to do the right thing, etc. if you want a feel good drama where the main characters have wonderful platonic chemistry and just care about each other but is also super funny, watch hospital playlist!! (season 2 is coming out early 2021 and im so pumped)

The Untamed (2019)

this one is a cdrama but i watched it in 2020, mostly because of how many people on the internet were adamant that the rest of us watch this and ngl they were v right. the untamed was very very good and im really glad i gave it a chance and watched it, its also my first cdrama ever. the chemistry between the male leads is honestly what makes this show and its worth the 50? i think? episodes. to be completely honest the fanfiction for the show are peak and if you do watch this, go straight to ao3 and you will not be disappointed.

The Uncanny Counter (2020) & Run On (2020)

these two dramas are among those that started airing at the end of the year and will go into the beginning of 2021 and absolutely saved the end of 2020 for me. while neither of these are finished, both have been excellent so far and worth starting. uncanny counter has the best use of the found family trope i have ever seen. i fucking love the four counters and their relationship with each other, how protective they are of one another. they all have amazing chemistry and the actors have amazing chemistry in the making films.

run on has one of the cutest couples that will definitely make my best chemistry list for next year. i didn’t put them on this list bc they actually haven’t gotten together yet but once they do, they’re gonna be freaking adorable, i can already tell. there’s no specific grand events propelling the plot forward, but just following the lives of these unique, interesting and relatable people who have casual yet entertaining conversations with each other. the show is super soft and the main couple are so straightforward and honest (plus theres mutual pining!!)
