Comic Book Saturday
This is a graphic novel adapted from the book of the same name. It’s about Lina, who at the age of 15 (in 1941) is taken from her home in Lithuania by Soviet officers and she, her mother and her brother wind up in a Siberian work camp. It’s about them doing their best to stay alive, trying to get word to her father where they are, and LIna also is an artist.
It tells a story that is almost never written about in regards to World War II. It also does not tell a super happy story, but an intense one. Made even more impactful by the amazingly beautiful art.

When Tumblr and Twitter say they want more emotive media, I have to wonder if they mean emotion or emoshuns. Do you want something authentic and troublesome that will remain with you, or do you want a serotonin hit that'll fade as quickly as it comes?
#it's always 'I want more emoshuns' but those emotions are hardly ever primal destructive rage or deeply problematic toxicities#and it's like what's the point just go write a coffee shop au#this world is bitter and cruel but also wonderful and every shade of gray in between#you're ultimately doing yourself a disservice by confining your experience to the lightest end of the spectrum

#perfectionism is the mind killer i say to myself#through gritted teeth with tears running down my face#finishing a cross stitch project with a color of floss that is half a shade off from the rest of the project because i ran out#realistically no one is gonna notice the difference between pewter gray very dark and antique pewter gray dark#doubly so because its on fucking BLACK AIDA#plus i chose a strategic place to change the color over#all anyone is gonna see is a funky gay skeleton!#and yet#between that and the center of the pattern being mismarked#there are several things about the funky gay skeleton that are gonna haunt me#alas im still gonna finish it and gift it because conceptually i think its perfect#but the pewter grays will haunt me for the rest of my days
