For the bookish asks, 6, 7, and 35! 💕
Hello!!! & thank u for the ask & sorry for taking 8 years to respond!!
6: Which book was the last one you really, really loved?
I just re-read the Hunger Games trilogy and let me tell y’all it hits different as an adult!! I remembered a lot of detail from the movies and stuff but goodness just the dynamics of all the characters and the complexity of the plots and the underlying sociopolitical commentary and all of it. Oof! Plus I don’t know if many are aware, Suzanne had blessed us with a prequel to the trilogy based on President Snow during the 10th Games - it’s called A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - and y’all definitely need to go read it immediately. My life has changed.
7: What was/were the last book/books you bought?
The last book I bought was Jane Eyre! I was at a bookstore with a couple of friends and I decided I should buy it- I don’t do a lot of book purchasing- I am usually a library girl, but I really loved reading it- it compelled me, so I wanted to own it.
35: Name a book you consider to be terribly underrated
Umm this is another one that I recently re-read but I feel like my peers & I all read Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children back in the day, but there are 4 more books in the series that I feel like nobody talks about? And maybe because I am no longer the target audience but whatever! They were really interesting and I think the reality in their world is a really interesting concept!!

I love your work so much! Do you have any book recommendations? I haven't been reading any books because I cant find anything that catches my attention like fanfiction does but your a great writer so youve probably read some good books lol
Thank you so much! I have the same issue sometimes lol, finding an interesting book after a roller coaster fic can be hard.
If you like dark fiction, you should read You by Caroline Kepnes. You read from the perspective of Joe, who is quite literally an insane stalker. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!
For a more current, political-ish story: The Hate U Give is a heart wrencher. A girl witnesses racial profiling first hand, and struggles through it with her community.
I love Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children; it has powers, monsters, and children with a knack for catching attention!
Airhead by Meg Cabot has been a longtime favourite: our main character gets seriously injured in the same moment a famous teen dies. Think successful brain swapping.
More by Meg, All American Girl has our main character saving the president from an attempted shooting. And having to deal with life after the fact.
Killing It by Asia Mackay is about an assassin mum, whose daughter becomes her greatest (and most protected) weapon yet.
The Selection Series; drama, romance, and a competition for the prince’s heart—amidst a complicated political situation to rival the Hunger Games, of course.
For that government controlled nightmare of your dreams, read 1984. The government controls everything, and our main character wants to escape that control.
Two Can Keep A Secret along with One Of Us Is Lying; murder mysteries from the perspective of the accused and the target. A roller coaster of mystery and secrets!
My favourite classics include Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (a young girl trips down the rabbit hole and ends up in a new reality), and Heidi (a young girl manages to cause trouble wherever she ends up, until she charms her elderly carer. Sounds boring but... read it).
Hope this helps some!!!

MASTERLIST // PROMPT LIST // SEND REQUESTS
I’ve been here for less than a week and Jake has somehow already found a way to screw up. Barron, some evil guy that apparently killed Abe, has now stolen Miss Peregrine and guess how that happened. I love Jake to bits, but he can be so damn gullible.
So here we are. Me, Jake, and the other peculiar kids now on a quest to save their beloved headmistress. I had become good friends with the children, except Emma, she didn’t seem as fond of me, probably because she’s in love with Jake and all and thinks that I’m hoarding him. But don’t get me wrong, she’s still a lovely person, I think. Also, Jake had found his peculiarity, he can see the monsters, the hollowgasts. Really creepy things that are like seven feet tall and they tentacles coming out of their mouths and they use them to take out the eyes of peculiar children for their lunch. Lovely, right? Those are the things we’re supposed to get through to save the Bird.
Yet, I’ve still to find out what my peculiarity is. Enoch says I must have one if I was able to get through the loop, but I was really starting to doubt him. I suggested that I might’ve only been able to get through that loop since I was with Jake., but he quickly shut that down, saying that it still wasn't possible.
Enoch walked up to me, I was leaning against the rusty railing of the ship Emma pulled up from the ocean floor, just as I was. We were both drenched, water literally dripping from our clothes. But then again, we did just jump into a large body of water. He was holding Claire in his arms, resting her on his hip. She gave me a polite smile and waved to me.
“Hello, Y/N!” she says excitedly as she jumps out of Enoch’s arms and gives me a hug, well, my legs. I laugh and crouched down at her level to give her a proper hug.
“Hi, darling,” I whisper and she giggles. I laugh too as I pull away and tuck a strand of her curly dirty blonde hair behind her ear, careful not to touch her mouth on the back of her head.
“Why don’t you go and play with Fiona or something, Claire,” Enoch suggested, pushing her a little with his foot. She nodded, said goodbye, and went off to find her friend.
“Aww, why’d she have to go? Now I’m stuck with you,” I say playfully, faking a look of disgust. He rolled his eyes, trying not to let his smile get through.
“Very funny, Y/N,” he says sarcastically, as he leans on the railing beside me. We both stay quiet for the next few moments, jut admiring the day, even though it wasn’t a very good one. “So, you have any clue on your peculiarity yet?” He asked, breaking the silence. I shook my head.
“Nope,” I said, sighing. I rested my elbow on the rusty railing and put my head in the palm of my hand. “I’m telling you, I not special like you guys. I just got in ‘cause I was with Jake!”
He shook his head immediately. “Impossible,” he says, looking at me. “The loop doesn’t work like that.”
“Whatever you say,” I argue. But a small part of me inside was really hoping he was right.
Me, Jake, Emma, and Millard walk off the shipwrecked cruise ship onto the abandoned pier at Blackpool. Jake looked around before his pale blue eyes fell upon what looked like a worn down carnival ride.
“This can’t be it, can it?” he asked, looking at us. I merely shrugged as Emma replied.
“Loop entrances can be anywhere. The one in London is in a subway tunnel,” she responded looking in between him and the loop entrance. Jake gave a small nod and headed towards the old ride, Millard, Emma and I coming up close behind. As we went through the tunnel, the cracked wood and eery sense coming from the loop turned into a fun and bright one, with light up skulls to dancing skeletons hung up from the ceiling.
“Are you sure this is it?” I asked, peering out the door. Emma walked up beside me, looking out too.
“I think so,” She said, a bit sassily might I add. Outside there were crowds of people in a busy amusement park, the only thing that stayed the same was the Blackpool tower looming over us. We headed over to the tall structure, Millard obviously having to get undressed and complaining about how cold it was, and began our plan.
We were getting Miss Peregrine back.
All the peculiar children and I stood in our positions in the tent, listening in on Barren’s conversation with his little posse. I sat crouched down behind the railing separating the seats from the stage, my Y/E/C eyes peering over the edge, careful not to be caught.
“I assure you,” he sneered to them after a long rant “I will not stand idly by, to see my destiny derailed.” He finished as he turned around, only to be blown back by Emma’s big breath of wind. Jake fired his crossbow, missing Barren’s head and hitting the target behind him. Barren’s friends soon stood up, heading toward the pair.
“Hugh, do it now!” Jake exclaimed as Hugh poo[ed out from his hiding spot, opening his mouth to let hundreds of bees out and attack them. They tried to swat them away, the female ripping her coat off and trying to use that, showing off her ape-like legs and tail. She climbed a pole in an attempt to get away as the red-headed male ran into the kiddie pool full of water.
“Come back here! Get them!” Barren screamed as monkey woman swung down and picked up a bucket of knives, throwing them at Hugh, Emma and Jake. “You think you can stand in my way? You, Jake, content to age and die as if you had no the gift of peculiarity at all? As well as your little girlfriend you brought along.”
All of the sudden, Enoch popped out and tried to hit him with a bat, but missed and Barron knocked him down, leaving him unconscious. I couldn’t help the outburst come from my lips.
“Enoch!” I yelled in panic, big mistake. Barron turned towards my direction, I saw him smirk before hiding behind the wall, hopefully going unnoticed.
“Speaking of the devil,” He says, I could hear the taunt in his voice and his thudding footstep walking closer. “I am the higher being! I hold the secret to eternal life!” He says, only a few meters away from where I stood crouched down on the ground, trying not to go into the crazy panic mode.
“Sorry to interrupt,” Olive said, touching Barron’s shoulder and catching it on fire. I’d have to thank her later. Barron looked behind him to see his coat in flames and took it off, swinging it at Olive until she fell to the ground defenceless. Jake cued Bronwyn as he shot another arrow at the Wight.
“You missed me again, Jake! I take it accuracy is not your peculiarity.” He criticized before getting hit in the face with Bronwyn’s chair. He fell to the ground and groaned, but still got up without an effort. He took the crossbow and threw Jake down as he went to attack him. He then walked to the back, presumably where he kept the Ymbrynes, where Jake and Emma followed him.
I was about to run after them when I heard a small voice scream. I stood up to see that man had put little Bronwyn into the kiddie pool he had jumped in earlier and started to freeze the surface of it. And that’s what really threw me off the edge. No way was I going to let my little girl die.
“Hey!!” I yelled louder than I thought was possible, as I jumped from behind the railing. “Why don’t you go pick on someone your own size, you bastard.” He chuckled darkly, stopping his process in freezing Bronwyn in, so Fiona went to go help her out.
“And what are you going to do about it?” He asked manically. My eyes went from their usual pretty shade of Y/E/C to a deep glowing red, and as I raised my hand, I noticed it had also turned that same colour. He started to gag as my fingers curled slightly. I raised my hand higher and his feet were no longer on the ground.
Everyone stared at me in awe, even Enoch who had previously just awoken. Although I was not aware of this, I was too concentrated, too focused on making sure that this cruel man would feel the pain he made my new family feel. Monkey woman jumped down to try and get me off of him, but I threw her down with my other hand, and picking her up as well, doing the same thing to her as I was doing to her friend.
“You deserve what’s to come to you. You deserve to die slowly and painfully for what you have down, not only to my family but to all of the other peculiar children you have brutally murdered!” I spat in there faces. “You're lucky I’m feeling nice today, or that would be exactly what’s happening now.”
I violently turned my hands while closing my fists, snapping both of their necks, their now dead bodies falling to the floor with an audible ‘thump’. I fell to my knees, my head spinning, and my eyes and hands turning back to their usual colour. I looked up to see Bronwyn, Fiona, Claire, the twins, and Horace running up to me and grabbing me in a great group hug. I laughed as I wrapped my arms around them as well.
I smiled and stood up with the help of Olive. “Well done on finally finding out your peculiarity, we all knew you had it in you.” She said as she engulfed me in a hug too. I giggled and thanked her before letting her go. That left me with only one person.
Enoch walked up to me, the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on anyone, let alone him, on his face as he wrapped his long arms around me and swung me up in the air, twirling me around, and setting my back on the ground again, his arms still around my waist tightly.
“What did I say?” He said, his smile still big, if possible getting bigger. “I told you that you had it in you, and as you know, I’m never wrong.”
I rolled my eyes. “Why don’t you shut it?” I say playfully. He smirked.
“Make me.” He replied before I cut him off with my lips on his, kissing him. He quickly responded, kissing me back with just as much passion. It was like nothing else mattered, nothing else existed other than him and me. That is until I heard the kids making puking noises at us.
We pulled apart. I laughed at them as Enoch got slightly mad and told them to piss off. I wrapped my arms around his neck again and gave him a quick peck on the lips, which seemingly cheered him up again. I turned back to everyone else.
Well, what are we waiting for?” I yell enthusiastically. “Let’s go save Miss Peregrine!” And we did. Everyone got back safely to the loop, saying their goodbyes on their way in. I started to cry as the children one by one gave me they’re last hugs and farewells. As Enoch came up, a gave him a sweet kiss and he held me tightly in his arms for a while before we departed, and that's when I went completely Niagara Falls. I knew that I couldn’t leave him. Jake knew he couldn’t leave Emma. And we didn’t.
I spent years trying to get back in time. Travelling loop by loop with Jake all across the world. From California to Tokyo to London, going through a whole bunch of crazy scenarios. Which led us back to where we were now, running down the Blackpool pier from all those years ago. I thought it was stupid as I went through it all. All of this, years of commitment, for some boy? But then I would remember, remember him, remember everyone else...
And for once, I was happy for being the Newcomer.

The Loneliest Girl in The Universe- What was a situation that made you feel helplessly and completely alone, separated from everyone else (whether physical, mental, or spiritual)?
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children- Do you have a strange defect/physical feature? Perhaps a strange power?
The Door Within- How spiritual are you?
The Red Pyramid- Have you ever shared your body with another mentally?

Make Me Admit Stuff Tag!
I reblog ask memes all the time because I want an excuse to overshare but then no one asks or I only get a couple questions from a 200+ question ask meme. So I’m turning a few ask memes into tag memes because I want to overshare and I’m attention seeking. There’s a few I might alter further for tag memes. This is the ask meme that this tag meme is from.
Here we go!
1. Would you have sex with the last person you text messaged? Yes <3 2. You talked to an ex today, correct? Incorrect. 3. Have you taken someones virginity? Nope 4. Is trust a big issue for you? It’s important, yes. 5. Did you hang out with the person you like recently? I have <3 6. What are you excited for? Nothing at the moment. 7. What happened tonight? I had a good long discussion with the top that kept him up 2hrs past his bedtime. I have minimal regrets. 8. Do you think it’s disgusting when girls get really wasted? Not girls specifically. Alcohol isn’t a thing I’m interested in personally, but in moderation I don’t mind it. 9. Is confidence cute? Yes! Very! It’s also sexy! 10. What is the last beverage you had? Fruit Punch Drink Mix (the kind you put in water) 11. How many people of the opposite sex do you fully trust? One. That’s also the only person I fully trust at all. 12. Just kinda here I guess. 22. Would you ever want to swim with sharks? Yeah, I think so. The little ones are pretty cute. 23. Are your eyes the same color as your dad’s? Yes. Every so often my mother will get this far off look in her eyes and tell me I’ve got my father’s eyes. Not just in color, but like overall. 24. What do you want right this second? Uh, to be in bed with the top. 25. What would you say if the person you love/like kissed another girl/boy? Say? Probably nothing. I’d more than likely pretend he didn’t exist until I got some good groveling. 26. Is your current hair color your natural hair color? Kinda? It’s been dyed but the dye is mostly gone/grown out. 27. Myu Reads
I am making a list of books/series that I read and enjoyed over the past few years, especially since I began listening to audio books regularly. I am making this list not in order of favorite to least but In The Order of Fluff to Grimdark.
The Wind in the Willows.
Charming characters, each with unique personalities, a classic, well-written series of short stories that has lessons for all ages to learn.
The Wizard of Oz.
Experience the magic of Oz. Much of which was removed in the classic movie adaptation. It wasn’t a dream after all.
Anne of Green Gables.
The tale of a spunky orphan girl being taken in by an middle-aged brother and sister duo.
A family dynamic that is not seen in modern westernized settings any longer.
Slice of Life. Light reading. The first book is the best book.
Howl’s Moving Castle.
Howl is a roguish wizard out to have fun and games manipulating the world around him. Sophie just wants to make hats and live a simple life, but is forced by a curse into adventure and into the path of Howl.
The movie and book are only alike on the surface. There is more charm in the books and Howl actually has a backstory.
Mrs. Frisby and the rats of NIMH
A tale of a mom wanting to save her children, told on top of the story of humanity corrupting nature and abusing animals.
A true “strong female protag” without the need of the female being either cruel, cold, or emotionally distant.
A Wizard of Earthsea
The movie Tales from Earthsea used the character’s names only and lifted elements from all the books rather than just adapting the first one.
Honestly I remember more from the sequel books more than I do the first one.
The Chronicles of Prydan (The Book of Three, The Black Cauldron)
A hero’s tale of a simple boy, an assistant pig keeper, wanting to become something greater and finding out that being a hero it isn’t all glory and fame.
Characters and Lands based off of old Welsh mythologies, the same ones that also inspired the Welsh folk heroes that later became King Arthur’s Court.
The Once and Future King
The Sword in the Stone half of the book would have made it closer to the top of the list. But the second half involved some rather graphic deaths and fights (a gory depiction of killing a unicorn among them).
Edgar Rice Burroughs John Carter of Mars (Barsoom) and Tarzan
Both characters helped define what would later become the modern super hero genera.
John Carter was a direct inspiration to Super Man and the Tharks popularized the idea of little “green men” of Mars. (The entire population of Barsoom are very color-coordinated, tbh. Green, Red, Black, White, Yellow). Many ideas created in this series are prolific in Science Fiction of today.
Tarzan of the Apes can be read by itself, no need to get into the later books. The original character is so popular that any attempt to stray too far from the core characterization leads into disaster. The movie “Greystoke” is perhaps still the best adaptation of the character to screen, and it was a deconstruction of the character.
Redwall
It is easy to get away with whole-sale death when it is done with animals, however many of the animals act human-like and that needs to be taken in consideration
Baby’s first “Dark Fantasy”. Dialog is written plainly for younger audiences, but subject matter is straight out of adult fantasy (mass murder, kidnapping, slavery, war of attrition).
Harry Potter
If you just watched the movies you are missing out on a lot of the descriptions and world-building in the books, especially in the second half of the series: Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix,  Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hollows.
The second half is when the series went from older-child reading to young adult as the characters went from child to teenagers in the books themselves.
Ready Player One, Armada
An easy introduction to retro 80′s and 90′s pop culture, old computer games, and science fiction dystopia.
If you are a layman, a young adult, or didn’t pay attention to most of the media during that era the books do gloss over and explain most of the references made.... sometimes too often.
Armada is not as well seeped in pop culture as RPO, but it is a much more streamlined story and you can get a clearer judge on the author’s actual writing capabilities without the kick-back of nostalgia.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
There are just somethings that can’t translate well from text to screen.
One of those series that is best when read in High school or if you are a fan of British Humor.
The Scarlet Pimpernel
A masked hero come to save French Aristocrats and Nobility from the guillotine of the Revolutionist Government. Among one of the first novels to set down the common tropes for heroes with secret identities to come.
History and backstory might be a bit too heavy for younger audiences to understand.
The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection
There are two great audio book versions of this: one by Simon Vance, the other by Stephen Fry. Vance is a long time audio book professional and also narrated the Dune books and in general just having him read the book is a good indicator that it would be done well.  Fry is a famous comedian and colorful character actor and was in the recent Holmes movies as Mycroft Holmes.
Barns n Noble has a beautiful leather-bound hardback edition of the Complete Collection as well for $25, if you are the type of person that reads the book and listens to the audio at the same time. The book will look nice on your shelf afterwards.
Victorian/Edwardian Horror-Romance: Frankenstein, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera
Classic stories, adapted and retold many times, it is always nice to get a perspective on the original works if you are only familiar with their newer incarnations.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
Darker than the movie.
A reminder that all N*zis are bad.
Children characters get killed just as often as adult characters
Deals heavily with mental issues and adults/authority figures gaslighting children.
Neil Gaiman’s The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Stardust
A couple “lighter” examples of Gaiman’s work.
Stardust is classic fantasy with a bittersweet ending.
Ocean is told mostly through the POV of an adult remembering his “magical” neighbors as a kid and his traumatic experiences with his parents and babysitter.
The Lost Fleet Series
What the modern space battle genera should be.
The battles are in real-time, using real physics. It may take hours or even days to find out if that heavy ballistics missile is going to hit its target or if the target moved out the way.
The characters are typical for the genera, but are still engaging. Though the love-triangle rears its ugly head.
NPC’s  (Spells, Swords, and Stealth Series)
A new game is hitting select markets. One that has consequences not only for the characters in the game, but the players. NPCs inside the game find themselves thrust into the role of adventurers when a PC party drops dead in their small town.
Classic “role reversal”  or unconventional class/char combos  (Gnome Paladin?  Half-Orc Wizard? Noble Lady Barbarian?  City Guard Rogue?) It’s kind of the norm now days after the whole “Drizz’t the Ranger Dark Elf” became so popular in the 90′s.
Star Wars: Heir to the Empire (Trilogy)
The first official trilogy of the Star Wars Expanded Universe, now known as the Legacy series.
It is always interesting to read through some of the EU to see what the Cinematic Universe is “borrowing” from.
Grand Admiral Thawn was such a popular character that he survived being rebooted.
2001: A Space Odyssey
If you have no idea what was going on in the movie. The book will help.
H. P. Lovecraft’s Collection of Horror
There are lots of copy cats, but only one original H. P. Lovecraft.
Mild in terms of today’s standards, but still thought provoking.
Good you are still wanting something creepy/spooky with out it being full of gore, swearing, or other ‘adult’ content, or looking for nothing exceedingly long
A “next step up” after reading Dracula, Frankenstein, and other fiction of that era (penny dreadful, or horror romances).
Heinlein’s Lazarus Long Universe (basically, most of his books)
It is decent until the last 5 books when things really get duct-taped together, then you’ll want to pull your hair out
Time Enough For Love, Number of the Beast, Cat that Walks through Walls, and To Set Sail Beyond the Sunset are some of the worst offenders.
An Incest warning is needed.
The ideas of these stories are timeless, the writing not so much. Characters are antiquated and firmly in the “men’s club”  of old-school science fiction. (Even the “strong female protag” in some of the stories still find time to be a wife and mother above all else. Many of the relationships are “open relationships,” so frequent wife/girlfriend swapping)
Starship Troopers
If you ignore the rest of Heinlein’s work, make an exception to at least read this one
Warns of the dangers of being in a global totalitarian society.
POC main character. Juan “Johnny” Rico. Something that was unheard of at the time of publishing.
The Silo Series (Wool/Rust)
Post-Apocalypse science fiction.
Not as dark as say something like bleak The Road or the bloody Red Rising, a PG-13 book.
Set firmly in the middle-ground of fiction despite the setting, the characters aren’t one-note, a solid little series of books and short stories
With some editing it could have been an other dystopia YA series.
The Great Book of Amber (The Amber and Chaos Chronicles)
High fantasy written with a modern voice. A Shakespeare and Arthurian setting. Avalon, Oberon, The “fairy realm,” Civil War. Court intrigue, back stabbing, fratricide. Unicorns.
Written in the 70′s and 80′s. Likely inspiration for other series like ASOIAF, Dresden, and The Witcher. Suggest reading this one before either of them.
The two main POV characters are enjoyable with a snarky sense of humor. The side characters have personality as well.
Multi-dimensional universe, one of the better ones.
Has a Table Top Game.
Welcome to Nigh Vale: A Novel.
Quarkie, Mysterious, and odd.
Heavily inspired by H. P. Lovecraft, X-files, and other conspiracy theory genera, but treated in a mundane manner which makes it unnerving in itself.
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (AKA: Blade Runner)
The book that inspired Blade Runner. To the point that many further publications of the book often call itself Blade Runner instead of its actual name (including the audio version).
The book and moves are only alike in theme, and some plot points
The book is bleaker, more Fallout than Ghost In the Shell.
Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune
The “Lord of the Rings” of Science Fiction.
What started out as a “deconstruction” of campy science fiction like John Carter and Flash Gorden, and a “take that” to Issac Asimov and Heinlein’s style of writing shaped all science fiction written afterwards.
GRRM (A Song of Ice and Fire)  is often compared to Herbert... for good and bad reasons.
Neuromancer.
The book that brought us the first REAL Cyberpunk in the 80′s.
It is interesting to see the ways they thought computers would be part of 21st century society back in the Cold War Era.
Mort(e)
Animals take over the world killing most of mankind along with it.
A mysterious “virus” sweeps through the animal population, and the Ants in charge began culling the animals to remove it.
The Hunger Games Trilogy.
There is a lot less HAM in the books than in the movies.
Upper Young Adult. Class Warfare.  Post Apocalyptic Dystopia.  Children killing children.
You can get into Katness’s head a lot easier, understand her reasons for being emotionally distant with people.
Jurassic Park, The Lost World
Dinosaurs and Assholes. Perfect Michael Crichton books.
The second one should be read just for the fact that the movie is nothing like it. The first movie had a passable resemblance, with some character tweaks... the second movie barely resembles the book at all.
The second attempt of Crichton writing a series about “high-tech theme parks gone wrong” (the first being Westworld)
Android’s Dream (John Scalzi)
When you find out why the book is called “Android’s Dream”... feel free to be grossed out.
Let’s just say the book isn’t about androids...
The Illuminatus Trilogy
Written in the 70′s. Plenty of Sex, Drugs, and Rock-and-Roll.
Some of the conspiracy theories will throw you for a loop, then suddenly you’ll remember that this is a comedy/parody book and gods are real.
fnord.
Cryptonomicon
A long fictional account about the invention of computers. Told against the backdrop of WWII and the Early 2000′s internet boon.
I feel this one is on par with the Illumanatus Trilogy when it comes to tone and feel, but with no magic-chaos-cults involved.
Parodies of Historical figures, large a corporation with their fingers in many-o-pot, main characters that would be considered counter-cultured for their time period finding themselves in over-the-top situations.
Neil Gaiman’s American Gods
Personally I found the book to be slow and meandering, but interesting as a whole.
Basically defines what people think Gaiman’s style is. Dark imagery, weird shit happening, and lots of contemplating your navel.
The Comoran Strike Detective Novels.
What J. K. Rowling is doing whenever she isn’t milking the corpse of Harry Potter.
Would be a better series in general without the fake love triangle...
The Godfather
The movie is better than the book, but then the movie is like in the top-5 best movies of ALL TIME.
The movie does follow the book for the most part, with some variation for time and content.
The Guns of August (Non-Fiction, WWI novel)
Accounts what caused WWI and the events of the first two months of the war.
It doesn’t demonize the Germans, Russians, or any of the sides in particular. It explains quite clearly as to what all their motivations were getting into this war and how the war ended up becoming a complete slog.
Realm of The Elderlings Series (Robin Hobb)
If you ever want to experience “the feelz” in book form.
The relationship between FitzChivalry and the Fool is one of the most anguished you’ll ever read about.
There is a lot of ship baiting however, as the Fool is genderfluid and Fitz refuses to believe their relationship is anything other than close-brotherly love...
About 60% of the entire series is seen through FitzChivalry “head as thick as a brick” Farseer ‘s POV, be prepared for lots of PTSD.
The Mists of Avalon
The classic tale of King Arthur imagined and told through the eyes of the women of the court.
There are no real villains in the series, even the most morally dark among them have justifiable reasons for what they are doing. Unlike something like Once and Future King. Mordred, Morgause and Morgan are not evil stereotypes, they have human real-world reasons for what they do.
The Red Rising Trilogy
The Adult Fiction version of The Hunger Games.... In SPACE.
Color-coded for your convenience.
All the surrounding characters are more interesting than the main character.
Your favorite character is likely going to die.
Darrow always reminding you about his fridged wife... even after he finds a replacement goldfish.
The Cycle of Arawn, The Cycle of Galand
In a world of black magic and white magic, it isn’t always clear on which side is good or evil.
Plot holes you can drive a truck through, or at least hope will get resolved/remembered in later installments.
Most of the charm of this series is the relationship between Dante and Blaze. The way they both converse with each other and the people around them is very reminiscent of Buffy Speak.
The Dresden Files (Harry Dresden... Wizard)
Dresden has a great mix of humor and cynicism.
Plenty of action, not entirely predictable in plot, and a heaping helping of stopping the forces of evil from destroying all existence.
A modern-era fantasy with plenty of demons, fairies, vampires, and ghost. Never loses the feel that it is set in the modern times.
Stephen King’s Horror-Fiction (The Stand, Under The Dome, IT, The Shining/Doctor Sleep)
The human condition at its worse told in speculative horror fiction.
The Forgotten Warrior Series (Son of the Black Sword)
Future Earth, brought back to an age of magic (or science-like magic) when demons fell from the sky and ravaged the planet. An entire race, the last survivors of the people that turned away the demons and drove them to the sea, are forced to live as slaves, vagabonds, and in perpetual poverty.
The Witcher Novels
Books are published OUT OF ORDER in America. Please read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny short-story collections before the Saga books.
CDPR Games are a Fan-created sequel to the books, so the games spoil the books (especially the third game).
Netflix is making a (new*) show adaption of the novels with the author’s approval and getting advice from the game makers as well.
*we don’t talk about the old show.....
The First Law Trilogy
It will get worse. When ever you think things can’t get any worse. It always does. And you watch the characters struggle all the way through it and everybody around them dying along the way.
Don’t get too attached to anybody without a POV.
A Song Of Ice and Fire
The modern “Gold Standard” for Dark Fantasy when Game of Thrones brought it to the mainstream.
Just about everything black and grim can, has, and will happen.
Nothing is glorified, everything is awful. When something problematic to our modern society happens within the narrative, it is often treated with the weight that these issues are a problem and part of their corrupt society (things like incest, child murder, rape, abuse....)
Hannibal Lector Series (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal)
humanizes the most horrible of mankind.
if you had at least watched any of the movies and/or the show, read the books as well.
Dogsland Trilogy (J. M. McDermott)
Nothing good will come out of this.  There is no hope for any of the characters. It starts out black and will end just as black. It is like a slice of life for the dirt poor and shunned. Forever on the run from hunters and discriminated against just because of being born. It ends where it began.
The Road
A story about a father and son at the end of humanity. There is nothing that can be done, a harsh struggle to delay the inevitable death of man kind.

all B questions for both Rosie and Diana?
Oh heck I completely forgot abt this I was drawing for like hours and this took a long time XD
Thank you! :D
Putting it under the cut cause- VERY long results
1 - How old is your character? Rosie (despite look around 19/25) is several hundred years old. No one knows her exact age (She gives the old “It’s rude to ask a wizard her age~” whenever you ask).
Diana is (Currently, since she time travels and ages at some point in the book I’m writing with her) is 14! :>2 - How well would you get along with your character? Rosie is awesome! (And basically me if I were a carefree wizard) however, she does get out-of-hand sometimes (A stern “Rosaline!” will instantly reel her in though).
Diana is a bit too stiff for me, I feel like we’d be friendly acquaintances at best.  3 - If your character had a favorite Disney character, who would it be? Rosie’s would definitely be Mabel from Gravity Falls! (Does Disney XD count???)
Diana’s would probably be Moana (From Moana) 4 - What’s the worst thing your character has ever experienced? Diana (At the moment- this might change) meets what is basically her family through time travel, and her goal is to help them get powerful enough to cast certain spells. Unfortunately, once that’s over and done with, she has to go back, otherwise the timeline will be messed up. Being completely alone in her own time, willingly leaving her family (and being gone for a good chunk of their lives) is the hardest thing she has to do. She later meets up with their older selves, but notices several battle-scars and memories she wasn’t there for. She feels like she wasn’t there when they needed her most, and despite what they say, she still thinks about it even years after.
Rosie… No one knows what Rosie’s worst memory is. Her pupils have asked- mostly to ask why she sometimes screams in her sleep, or why tears gather at the corners of her eyes whenever it snows -but she never answers. Sometimes, they aren’t even sure she knows. There have been times where they tap her shoulder (she would be staring at the snow through a window while crying silently) and she’d turn around and act as if everything was fine. “Miss Rosie? Why are you crying?” “Crying? Am I? Oh… I’m not sure.” She also flinches at the name ‘Akinson’. (Akinson Daily is a newspaper in her universe- which just raises more questions)
5 - Does your character like animals? Rosie is indifferent towards them. As far as she’s concerned, they’re just part of the scenery.
Diana likes any and all familiars (She lives in a magic world) as for non-magical animals, she’s properly cautious with bigger animals, and can pet the small friendly ones with a smile on her face. 6 - What is your character’s Jung/MBTI personality type? *Shrug* I don’t know nothin’ bout’ that.7 - What is his/her Zodiac sign (astrological/chinese)? No thank you. (I will answer no questions) 8 - How well does you OC deal with stress? Rosie usually sits on a hill somewhere (or anywhere high up really) and watches sunsets to calm her nerves. If she’s really wound up however -well, she once disappeared for days and came back with burn marks and a bag of gold coins (Her response to this was, “Nothing like an adventure to spice things up!”).
As for Diana- ‘I got this.’ becomes her catch phrase. She doesn’t really deal with it… well. Diana is the kind of person who let’s her stress get so bad that she stops sleeping. Her friends usually have to force her to sleep and drag her out for dinner. A good ole’ festival or late night walk will chill her out though. Really, her friends can distract her from anything. 9 - Is/Would your OC be ‘tech-savvy’? (This one’s funny to me because they both live in magic worlds with a little technology) Rosie wouldn’t care for computers and stuff- but if you gave her one with nothing else to do, she’d know the in’s and out’s of it in an hour or so.
Diana would use tech for anything she needed to (Work mostly) and be really bad with anything else.10 - What is your OC’s greatest fear? Rosie isn’t afraid of her pupils getting hurt (getting hurt is part of learning, and if that’s the cost then so be it) what she’s afraid of is them getting hurt or killed because of her. Diana’s fear for most of her life was being alone, but as she goes on her adventure and earns her little non-related family, it becomes letting them down in any way, shape, or form. 11 - Does you OC have any phobias or disorders? Rosie had pretty severe social anxiety when she was little (something no one believes, considering her current personality). It’s rumored that she has a fear of a certain magic-growing tree. She will neither confirm or deny this.
12 - What is something your OC is secretly good/decently talented at? Rosie has millions of little things she’s good at for some reason- she’s excellent at dancing (particularly traditional festival dances, though she somehow knows the steps to traditions she’s never been a part of).
Diana’s been reporting on magic and wizards and things since she was twelve and a half. She’s exceptionally good at remembering obscure details and being completely unfazed by the strange spells of other wizards. (Which does wonders when someone is trying to intimidate you) 13 - Is he/she superstitious? Rosie pretends to be sometimes, but it’s mostly to fool children (and they believe her because she’s probably the only magic user they’ve ever met).
Diana would scoff at the thought. She is a woman of science and history. 14 - If your character was in one or more fandoms, what would they be in? Rosie would be into Little Witch Academia (It reminds her of her younger years, funny enough), Doctor Who, and My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic (She likes Pinkie Pie the most).
Diana would be a huge dork for Harry Potter and Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children. She’d also be a bit of a closet fan of musicals (Specifically Waitress. She would love Waitress).15 - Is your character more intellectual, athletic, or somewhere in between? Rosie is more silly than intellectual (though she does have moments that hint at the mind beneath her silly smiles- they take everyone by surprise and scare them sometimes with how serious she sounds). What she lacks in athletic strength, she makes up for in magical power.
Diana is definitely more of an intellectual. You don’t have to try hard to topple her over. You could like like. Poke her. Then boom. She’s on the ground. Probably bruises easily too. She is the target of many jokes from her ‘friends’.
16 - What Harry Potter house is he/she in? Rosie is a Hufflepuff for sure.
Diana is a Slytherin! :>17 - Extrovert or introvert? Rosie is an ambivert! She love interacting with people but also has days of quiet book-reading next to her fireplace.
Diana is an introvert. 18 - Is he/she more of a leader or a follower? Both leaders.
19 - How does your OC feel about romance? Rosie usually doesn’t have an opinion on this kind of thing- however once, when she was very tired, and not thinking, she let it slip that “I probably don’t deserve that kind of thing considering…” before promptly falling asleep on her desk.
Diana thinks she has better things to do with her time then date. However, the right boy would be able to knock her out of her tower of tunnel vision, and turn her life upside-down. So, she’d say absolutely not- but if the right boy came along, her heart would take over.

I slept about 12 hours last night and at some point inbetween 2am and 6am had the weirdest dream that left me shaking and gasping for air when I woke up.
I might turn it into a story at some point but for now I’ll just write this note about it and summarise it. Because wow... it was something between weird, a comic worthy crossover and ya novel.
Apparently there were people, in that case children and teenagers of at least two dimensions who were taken out of their usual time because their life was in danger yet their timeline couldn’t properly develope without them. They were important but someone, something or circumstances wanted them dead.
I was their because I had witnessed the death of one of those important persons and the two people leading the hideout were worried that whoever did this was coming after me as well. Like in the case of all the others my memories were jumbled, I couldn’t clearly remember anything maybe it was the caretakers’ doing maybe it was a side effect but all the others had the same trouble.
I was among the four oldest children. There was another girl who didn’t like me because she considered me week for not taking the stress too well. And two guys one of them I was eerily familiar in a way and the other one I tried to stay away from because I did sense a kinship but also somehow knew he was from another dimension than mine.
The one thing I remember as clear as daylight was the all-consuming ever looming fear. It was omnipresent and crushing. There was barely a moment to be free of it and it was everywhere. In every movement, in not turning on the lights for too long when it was dark, in not pulling the curtains back when it turned dark, in not going outside, even in the faces of the two caretakers - a man and a woman. It took away the air to breath... in the house slightly outside of town with the garden that stopped where the woods started.
Unlike many other sanctuaries in ya books like for example Miss Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children, it wasn‘t even safe for the barest of seconds. At some point I more or less broke down. I ran away from the group to one of the bathrooms - anxiety attack ensuring. No one cared or went after me. I was one of the newest additions they all knew it, they didn‘t care. The other girl slightly older than I was - and I felt a bunch of years younger - decided then and there that I was weak and to not like me.
The guy I avoided due to him being from a different dimension hadn’t been with us though and when he walked by he did care... he was being so nice I felt like falling in love in my dream - which being an aro is kind of a weird thing to write. But he cheered me up and I hink I know which character I know he was supposed to be but... we left the light on for too long. That together with other signs before - it wasn’t all our fault - prompted the caretakers to make us pack a single backpack and hurry us to an old bus.
After the two of them were inside together with us 4 teenagers and 6 younger children we fled the scene. I fell asleep in my seat after a while and I dreamed... dreamed of a shot and sunglasses of the mirrored kind and shimmering in the coulours of the rainbow hurled through the air... of screaming, yelling and crying because the person shot was so important to me.
And when I woke up I knew it was the eerily familiar guy, the one they shot... him taken from a different time or slightly before it happened. I just knew it, he had been very important to me, but he wasn’t even really looking at me anymore - and I think I know which character he was meant to be as well -... all the while the other one was beeing too good to be true but getting close to him in any way would inevitebly break my heart when we had to return to different dimensions again.
We arrived at a most normal looking house with many appartments where the male caretaker and the younger children were supposed to stay. While the teenagers and the female caretaker would have to leave for yet another place.
We were allowed to say goodbye to them... the only one of them I remember was a the oldest of them, ginger hair, not really liking people, suspicious of me because I was new. But while we could say goodbye we were told we couldn’t leave the bus for that and had to stay inside or go back to our seats as fast as possible. The other girl and I did... the boys did get of the bus to hug the children and suddenly... the doors of the bus closed.
The female caretaker told us that only me and her had sensed the danger so the danger was meant for us while the others would be safe in the house we were the targets or important and had to go on.
Her and I huddled together on the long bench in the back... she told me she didn’t like me because I was weak... I didn’t care, she was right, it was okay.
The caretaker told us we would hide in an abandoned public swimming pool and what followed was a sequence of swimming pools we drove by... hours maybe days, time was weird and fickle.
Until we arrived at the right place... mesmerising, bluish light, reflection of the water in the dark... just me, her - the girl with short dark hair I now recognised as from another demension as well - and the female caretaker. And the fear over everything and the whole time the crushing fear.
This is were my dream ended, just like this. And I woke up and had to calm myself because of the fear still eating away at me, had to slow down by heart rate before later falling asleep again.
Did we have superpowers? I don’t know but I think that could have been the case for some. Was any bad thing ever seen? No but the fear was omnipresent.
And I think it has a lot of a ya novel with the two guys being there but then again they were both shoved aside and only me and the girl with the short black hair and the red jacket stayed behind to try and avoid what was coming for us... and the role of the younger children... I don’t know it was all weird put I see or better feel so much potential in the story and this was one of the few dreams that ever spoke to me on such a level, made me feel everything so much that I feel compled to do something with it at some point and maybe I will.
But for now it’s just good to get the story of my chest as long as I remember it like this. And to take a note who the other teenagers were.

My MPHFPC Movie Notes
Love the opening credits, fits spirit and theme of the book
(music in general is good)
Hate the different opening line – rather generic imo.
Asa please I know you’re a good actor. Please stop being so flat.
“Jake”
This all feels rushed.
Grandpa has lost his marbles and his acting ability.
“That guy gave me the heebie-jeebies” is all you have to say after nearly hitting a man?
“Jake” was in the house for only 10 seconds, didn’t even bother checking the whole house.
This opening is so boring that my foot fell asleep.
Was this the first take? There’s little to no emotion.
Grandpa Portman doesn’t sound like he’s dying. At all.
1943?! What’s the point of changing the date?!
Also, what’s the point of changing his last words which were a lot more mysterious?
C’mon dude, your grandpa just died! Show some emotion!!
Why do the hollows look like Slenderman rip-offs?
Dr. Golan’s a woman? I’m fine with this – but I won’t be later.
“A month ago,”? Wasn’t it more than a few months until he finally sought help? (I haven’t read the book in a while)
Asa is still a bit flat but he’s doing better in these scenes.
Tiny Jacob is super cute!
His acting is bad, though. This is a given for child actors.
The dad is an ornithologist. He wouldn’t change a bird documentary to a football game (although that was a bit funny.)
Why does Miss Peregrine look so young? In the book, she looks more like a mother waiting for her children to give her some goddamn grandkids.
Bronwyn is 9 now I guess.
Hugh is 11 now I guess.
“Where’s Emma? She could float.” SHE COULD NOT.
Grandpa Portman sounds more English than Polish. Throwing in a Polish nickname doesn’t convince me that he’s Polish.
“Little tiger”? He called him “Yakob.”
“No eyes,” in the book, Jacob tells a sketch artist that they have 2 like a normal mammal. This may be personal taste, but for me, monsters are scarier when they look more human.
Kids this age wouldn’t laugh! They’d see the picture of Millard and go “Holy shit! He’s invisible!” Kids are gullible, dammit. (I had this problem with the book as well.)
Funny how younger!Jacob dresses exactly like Asa.
Damn, kid, he said he didn’t want to talk about it! Chill!
Still 0 emotion, I guess.
“He was a wonderful grandpa, but not… such a great dad, you know?” Damn, that hits home for me – but doesn’t this talk happen later in the book? Like, this talk happens at the island.
Wait, the scene just ends there? No argument? Damn, Jake just doesn’t care that his dad is smack talking his idol.
JESUS fuckin’ twins.
Jacob’s cousins were brats and I believe teenagers as well, so why are they perfect lil’ angel twins that look 10 at the oldest?
Also, why is Jacob’s house so small? His mom is an heiress to a Wal-Mart type store-chain.
Cairnholm is apparently popular enough to warrant postcards.
And popular enough to warrant a spot in a travel book, wtf? It’s not even big enough to be seen on a map.
The dad looking at Jake like he’s crazy gives me life lmfao.
Cairnholm is 100% my aesthetic.
Where’s Kev???
What? But… Uncle Oggie is a relative of Martin?
Didn’t imagine Kev looking like that but okay.
Franklin is me trying to make friends tbh.
I’m so glad Worm and M.C. Dirty D made it in.
Aren’t the residents like… a bit afraid of the home themselves?
Aesthetic™
Wait, what? Oggie can see? He looks blind.
1943? At that point, Germany was taking a more defensive stance, doing lots of evacuating.
“And they were lovely, too.” In the book, Uncle Oggie claims they were strange and rarely spoke.
“3 months later”? He left the day after the loop was created!
Is that the dart competition I keep seeing on Vine?
Wait, why is Enoch there? I know they fucked with his character a lot but he probably joined after the loop was created since he’s from an older loop, otherwise he’d age forward ~30-40 years – so why is he next to (who I presume is) Abe, who left after the loop was made? (or in this case, before!)
Enoch’s little laboratory was in the basement, not upstairs.
The twins might’ve been in the loop at some point, but they certainly aren’t there when Jacob arrives.
Wait, so instead of chasing after them, he runs away? Jake’s a pussy.
And he trips and gets knocked unconscious by a rock. Wow.
Bronwyn, despite being the wrong age and having no personality, is at least cute and it’s fun to watch her carry Jake.
Why is Millard so tiny? You can say that his age is ambiguous, but in the book Jacob clearly states that his voice sounds like that of a young man’s, not a young child’s.
“You’re Emma!” (John Cena voice) Are you sure about that?
Why is Olive, like, 16? She’s supposed to be 7-9 years old (and ofc she has Emma’s powers instead.)
“She sent us to get you”? Why, though?
Standing there all creepy ain’t gonna make him want to follow you.
Jake doesn’t seem to see the change in the weather.
“I am the manager” reminds me of that one Tumblr comic.
Ngl, Millard would do this – if just for fun. He’s a little shit like that.
What’s the point of lighting the place on fire? They’re distracted enough.
Did they just steal someone’s horse?
Millard no longer has any personality out of “Yeah” and “Yep.”
Emma is not nearly bitchy enough. Or at all.
The house is gorgeous! It looks just like I imagined it!
What the fuck, why is Miss Peregrine so young? I know I mentioned this before but what the fuck.
“Right on time”?
“I had to kill them twice this month” WHAT. MISS PEREGRINE DOESN’T KILL UNLESS NECESSARY
Miss Peregrine is not nearly this creepy in the book.
THAT’S NOT ENOCH.
Why does he sound mildly Scottish? He’s from London and has a slight cockney accent.
From now own, every time I see Enoch, 5 years are taken off my life.
Why is Fiona 11 and English? She’s supposed to be in her late teens and Irish – not to mention, SHE DOESN’T TALK!
I don’t think Fiona’s powers make things huge.
“Imm-breen” it’s “imm-brinn”
Do the twins have names?
Claire looks cute!
I don’t think Millard, no matter his age, would be very interested in physical activity. He’s a brains over brawn kind of type, you know?
Kind of uncharacteristic of Hugh to send his bees after a friend.
I’m gonna cry. At least one of my babies looks right.
Horace feels… off. All the components of his personality are certainly there, but in different degrees than in the book.
I’m sorry, what? A daily chore that’s reset by the loop? Miss P, these are kids and teenagers! They’ll get bored of doing that every day! I know because I am a teenager!
That squirrel would be going crazy and scratching her up. I know this is a nitpick but squirrels are vicious, man.
Was this scene the only reason they swapped Emma and Olive’s peculiarities?
Why are her shoes so hard to take off? What if she has to get away in an emergency? She’s fucked!
Why’s it so hard to pull her down?
Emma doesn’t seem to heartbroken over Abe’s death. In the book, she bawled upon overhearing that he died.
This dialogue barely hints at Emma and Abe having a romantic relationship, making only people who read the book know this information. Non-book readers might just assume they were close friends.
Of course, instead of borrowing Victor’s clothes he has to borrow Abe’s.
God, am I the only one that hates looking at Finlay? He’s not ugly – a bit handsome actually! -- he’s just… kind of weird looking.
So… Olive is good friends with Enoch? Don’t get how they got that out of the book when they have no interactions in the first book.
His dolls are meant to be made of clay! Now he just looks like an older Sid.
The stop motion is terrible.
So, they care enough about Enoch’s character to remember that his parents ran a funeral parlor, but not enough to make him his actual character.
Did he not see Millard’s silverware moving? Did no one see it?
So, Enoch is clearly mad at the statement Horace made, so why hold back your retort by whispering? Was he sick on this day of filming?
No one needs that much carrot.
Hugh’s been living there for 70 years; pretty sure he’d never forget to put his net on.
Wait, so he remembered to bring it with him, but not to put it on?
S L U R M P
“She’s embarrassed in front of Jake.” Uh, Hugh, I think you flubbed your line, it’s “Claire don’t eat with the rest of us.”
Oh, thank god, she has the same peculiarity.
I’m crying, Claire is so adorable!
Enoch’s a bigger asshole than I remember him being in the books.
Although it wasn’t in the book, I do like the inclusion of the call from Abe. It makes no sense whatsoever, but I still like it.
Would Horace really be comfortable sharing his dreams – especially via projector?
“Some of his dreams are prophetic,” shouldn’t ‘some’ be ‘most’? Everyone’s dreams can hold some form of future-telling, albeit in an abstract way. If only some of his dreams are prophetic, that barely makes him peculiar.
I don’t get why Horace’s dreams are at all symbolic. They should be literal.
Why did he see Ms. Avocet get kidnapped when she, in fact, didn’t?
“Horace must’ve just had a bad dream, that’s all.” HIS DREAMS ARE PROPHETIC.
Wait, so they have a phonograph outside? And it works?
Why make Miss P creepier, but tone down the creepiness of the reset scene? Think of it: 9 children you barely know wearing gasmasks are singing an old song you don’t know to the tune of bombs falling. That’s a lot scarier than listening to the song on a phonograph.
I just remembered: they never offered the reason why Cairnholm gets bombed. In the book, it’s stated that the island had a sort of anti-aircraft gun which made it a target, but here the Germans simply bomb it to be seen as more evil than they already are.
I do admit, the reset scene does look beautiful.
Jake doesn’t seem as terrified, though.
Emma learning about cellphones is pretty cute.
And we’re back to talking about Abe.
“More than a few minutes,” it’s closer to hours, days even if we’re going by Library of Souls.
Already with Ms. Avocet?
(Cinema Sins voice) Jake’s dad reminds me too much of my own father in this scene.
Okay, so I’m assuming “Mr. Barron” is some wight higher-up? I know he’s not, but for the sake of the notes let’s pretend I don’t know.
Man, he really is my dad. He acts all weird and pretends like nothing happened later.
Who dresses like that in the 21st century!? I like the aesthetic too, but you don’t see me walking around in a Rococo period dress.
No one talks like this either.
That fuckin’ dart competition’s going to get me every time.
Who the fuck rests on their bed with their shoes on?
Bronwyn is cute but… I can’t get over the fact they made her younger and erased her character.
Would it kill someone to say, “Can we try that take again?”
WHY did they make Miss Peregrine so creepy? She was never this creepy!
Yeah, and he’s trying to warn you of potential danger. Also, can I ask where the fuck he got that letter?
Every time I see Finlay’s face a deep hatred resurfaces from the darkest corners of my heart.
All the kids in that room together just chilling is cute.
OKAY THIS IS WHAT PISSES ME OFF. I know for a damn fact that Enoch would never be mean to someone who was kind to him.
In the book, Bronwyn wanted nothing more than for Enoch to wake up Victor but go off I guess.
According to the timeline, HE SHOULD BARELY KNOW ABE.
That’s not how he brings them back to life, though? It’s not like he’s doing heart surgery, it’s more like he’s just gonna smell like death (literally) for most of the day.
Enoch being there as Jake realizes Victor’s dead really takes out a lot of the punch from the scene. Having him show up afterwards (like in the book) is better since it’s more like ‘Realization -> Confrontation’ instead of just… explaining and scaring.
I don’t know if Tim’s ever been around a normal human being before but usually you don’t see their heartbeat.
Okay, so… he can’t bring people back to life, only use them as puppets. First off, that’s gross, and second, that’s a nearly useless peculiarity.
How can tears roll down Victor’s cheek if he’s never conscious anymore? Dead people are known to shed tears, but it’s after they die and are decomposing, and Victor can’t decompose because he’s in a loop!
Does Miss P just do that on a regular basis?
Wasn’t that a rowboat?
That’s carbon dioxide, you can’t breathe that.
How is she swimming? Wouldn’t she just walk? She has lead shoes on!
I don’t think skeletons keep their hair.
Well how the hell does that work?
“Air, it’s my peculiarity.” No, it is not.
I’d rather trust a bunch of information I don’t want the people I love knowing with an adult, but okay.
Wait, so Emma has the Map of Days now?! It was stressed countless times in the trilogy how much Millard loves that damn thing and you give it to EMMA?!
Okay, WHAT? Barron is the leader now!? I guess Miss Peregrine’s brothers just don’t exist now!
“Bad peculiars”? They’re ex-peculiars, because they don’t have powers anymore!
They took the kids, too, you know.
Wait, while they’re at it, didn’t this conversation take place at night?
Just tell him how Abe could see monsters, then he’ll believe. No need to be dramatic.
Hollowgasts sure as fuck would not loop along with the townspeople, they’d be free to roam around or they’d get left behind. Also, Victor died AFTER the loop was made! He got tired of living there and tried to leave and died THIS IS SUCH A SIMPLE STORY TIM.
Did I mention that I hate how the hollowgasts look?
You could have told him earlier but okay.
I don’t remember any of this from the book.
“Tired of living in loops.” Caul was tired of peculiardom being a ‘matriarchy.’ Yes, there were some problems with how peculiar boys who could turn into birds were treated but overall Caul was crazy and narcissistic.
I guess there are only 13 wights, opposed to hundreds or even thousands.
Also, why are they all upper-class? I’d assume a lot would be lower.
Didn’t they also blow up half of Siberia?
EYEBALLS? It’s from consuming their souls! I guess Tim just wanted to put in some ugly ass imagery.
Wait, why are they still eating? They’re fine now!
Almost forgot Millard was in this fucking movie.
But they weren’t even going to try it again! It was a ploy! And why hold it where a normal person could find it!?
This ‘leaving’ bullshit pisses me off because it’s breaking so many fucking rules. Hollows can’t enter loops so leaving is more dangerous than staying, which is what she chose to do in the book!
Claire is so cute.
Makes a bit more sense that an old blind man on his own died than a healthy, (I’m assuming) mid-age museum curator but okay.
This is probably the dumbest thing Jake has ever done. Surely, he knows that normal people can go in, but that they can’t enter through the loop, right? And he could potentially also be a danger, so why call out to him?
This reveal isn’t nearly as powerful as the one in the book. By doing his other voices from previous identities he’d taken before to watch over Jacob, he intimidated him and by finally revealing himself as Dr. Golan, he immediately made the one normal person that Jacob felt a bit safe around a danger and in that moment, he realizes what he had done by telling him everything.
Okay, here’s why I’m pissed they made Dr. Golan a woman. Reason 1 is because it shows that Tim wanted to make the wights really overpowered by letting them keep their peculiarites, and reason 2 (separate of reason 1) is because they didn’t make the rest of their identities women. Like just make a lady ornithologist and have her be a peculiar who can turn into a bird but can’t control time, making her feel self-worth incredibly low and hate ymbrynes. It took me a minute to think this up, Tim.
That’s not how you take off contacts.
Did this fucker really think he could take on an adult?
Hollowgasts can’t enter loops but okay.
This is a bit of a nitpick but the fact that Jake was used as a hostage instead of Hugh just shows how much they didn’t give a shit about the other kids unless they had a relationship cookin’ for them.
So, she has a crossbow, but she’ll just go down without a fight? That’s not like her at all!
This is NOT the time to be petty, Wal-Mart brand Enoch.
I just realized that Horace has like 4 lines and now I’m sad.
I would be so happy that instead of turning into a bird and leaving that Miss Peregrine just fucking decked him. It’s a lot more in character than just letting them take her.
I don’t remember Miss Peregrine trusting a 16-year-old with the lives of 9 kids but okay.
One of the few good things this movie brought me was a peregrine falcon sound so I could look it up and see if it was accurate. I then found a video of a sweet old man filming a peregrine falcon’s call and providing quiet commentary. Just felt that was worth mentioning.
Since when did Jacob become good at strategy?
Cute scene, but it means nothing to me.
Okay I guess Miss Avocet never mattered.
Just destroy Wal-Mart brand Enoch, please.
Why does Fiona have the most lines out of the neglected kids? She only had 2 lines in the whole book!
That bomb would be enough to take care of it, but okay go ahead and shoot it.
Olive seems pretty in-control of her peculiarity, so why give her gloves?
“It’s only 6 months old.” What?
Time travel is bullshit. Also, I don’t think it works like that?
“I know you’ll choose Abe.” Well, duh, I’d rather see my grandfather again than some cute girl I met a few days ago that barely even seems to like me that well.
Okay, so the movie I’m watching is really choppy and cuts at random parts and it just cut in the middle of a sentence Wal-Mart brand Enoch was saying and I couldn’t be happier.
Yeah, but the loop entrances are usually in places normal people won’t go. (ex. Miss P’s loop entrance, Miss Thrush’s loop entrance, etc.) Seems dumb to put it on a ride. Imagine sending your kids on there and when the cart comes back one of them is missing?
Okay, so there’s only 4 hollows and 6 wights left according to the movie. Why are they all so afraid of them then?!
In the book, a lot of them were trained to handle guns, and in the movie they still have their peculiarities – so WHY are they not attacking Emma as soon as they see her!?
I’m pretty sure that in the book Jacob had been seeing Dr. Golan much longer than 3 weeks.
Yeah, Florida’s a hellhole, to be quite honest.
I guess no one cares about a floating girl in the sky. I don’t see any iPhone’s out recording.
Never mind, I see one (1). I should see much more, though.
How would the hearts stay in the skeletons? There’s nothing for them to hold onto.
Is there no staff at this place?
How are these skeletons in general staying together?
This fight is pretty dangerous. They’re exposing normal people to peculiardom.
Okay, so now the wights use their peculiarities to fight.
Horace saved lives at least 3 times but I guess he’s just useless now according to the movie.
Man, Tim, you sure did a good job of creating strong female characters! /s
How is Mr. Barron not dead? She lifted the boat out of water and the closer you get to the bottom of the ocean the more pressure you’ve gotta deal with.
3 cheers for this forced romance! Hip-hip! (Boo)
This 16-year-old doesn’t need to tell these women what to do.
Why is Miss Peregrine in a different cage?
I guess Barron just had some blue eye contacts on him.
How did the hollow get down there?
I guess Jake’s a perfect shot now, since it’s convenient.
(vomit noises)
Again, time travel is bullshit. Wouldn’t there be another Jake walking around?
Wait, they’re still there?
Hurray for more terrible loop entrances!
In the book, this would be the second time they had kissed but okay.
Never knew that birds could just be stationary while in the sky.
Wait, so she just… keeps her clothes? Trust me, I don’t want to see a naked woman in something other than an art piece or otherwise but that was a rule that they had in the book.
Well that was a load of shit. At least with the ending there can’t be a sequel.

i11.01.17 - 16.01.17
LONDON
Flight to London via Melbourne and Dubai - I managed to watch The Secret Life of Pets, Miss Peregrine’s Home of Peculiar Children, Snowden, Life of Pi, Skyfall AND The Grand Budapest Hotel so I ended up being more productive in those 30 hours of travel than I was for all of 2016. Via Lewisham - Absolutely SHITE.
London Waste and Recycling Board - Stuart introduced the concept of a ‘circular economy’ where products, components and materials are kept at their highest use and value. Strategies include a ‘sharing economy,’ a ‘performance economy,’ prolonging product life, recovering value at the end of a product’s life and using waste. Shoutout to Adidas ocean plastics shoes, Bio Bean and Entomics on their sustainable approaches. Also, good on London for aiming to be a 0 carbon city by 2050…especially as they exceeded their annual air pollution target in five days. Brief sightseeing - I would elaborate but it was really just a crisp power walk past St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey. Very crisp. Institute of Business Ethics - Doing things ethically vs. doing ethical things and obligatory legal practices vs. discretionary ethical actions were two fantastic dichotomies explored in this session. Ask about the loyalty challenge presented to us if you bump into me :) Hummus Bros - A place of unlimited hummus and happiness. British Museum - Just lots of cool stones that have cool shapes. You know, like the Rosetta Stone or the army of Venus (AKA Aphrodite SMH @Romans) statues scattered everywhere.
National Gallery - The painting of paintings or the ‘Cognoscenti in a Room hung with Pictures’ by an unknown Flemish artist blew my mind. What a parallel to the memes about getting tagged in memes that are about getting tagged in memes. Mind = blown. Another highlight might have been Olaf’s head photobombing all of the photos I took outside. Guess Olaf was never really a considerate one. Jamie’s Italian - Not disappointed in the food whatsoever but highly disappointed Jamie didn’t make time for a quick chat with us - fame has gone straight to his head. Covent Garden and Oxford Street - Shopping in London after a lifetime of shopping in Auckland, need I say more? Le Hanoi - Describing ‘pho’ to white people is as difficult as it sounds. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Park - An epic play with an epic pupper in an epic box seat at an epic price.
Tower of London - Debate: This house believes the Tower of London would be the perfect place for a one night stand. Globe Theatre - Not watching a performance here is the perfect reason to be back soon. London Bridge - First hand experience tells me Fergie hyped up London Bridge extremely appropriately. Tate Modern - 15/10 is the rating I would give the gallery after 15 minutes of exploration so I can only dream of the rating it deserves after a lengthy inspection. Harrods - Wondrous bathrooms. I would like to share my opinion of everything else in Harrods but that would require being wealthy. Which I am not. Tommy Hilfiger - The little black boots I bought here surpasses any little black dress teehee :)
UN Global Compact - Steve’s opinion on companies with unsustainable practices was a straightforward Simon Cowell style ‘no.’ Hence, to the many many companies reading my blog, just be feckin’ sustainable; there are no excuses to not keep up plus you’ll fail LOL. NZ Trade and Enterprise - Little NZ tends to do pretty well in the big adult world - especially in terms of scoring the building with the best view of London. Flight to Copenhagen - Would recommend the company of Rafael and Young but would not recommend Ryanair, oh dear. Urban House - Urban House felt like Paratai Drive  after Via Lewisham but even better as it was located in the red light district ;)
