this is completely off topic and a shot in the dark probably, but I really want to read non fiction books of peoples experiences in prison (preferably long stints) and their transition to life outside and the difficulties of that. preferably from the prisoner themselves if possible, but I don't mind if its like a writer/researcher who has interviewed a lot of ex-convicts etc.
thank u if anyone has any recs or can point me somewhere. I found a few recs online but they're american publishers and look textbook focused so heavy monies £££ (I would like to buy, but can try Other Sources ofc). I've ordered 'in the place of justice' by wilbert rideau (in prison for 44 years!! wtf) but i'm not sure what else to go for.

I've heard some people say to "just watch shows without sex" and that kind of stuff, but never any actual suggestions. and while I do think it should be allowed to show love, sexual, romantic and otherwise, I do have the impression 99% of media that isn't made for 7 year olds has romance, crushing and/or sex and even some of the stuff made for 7 year olds has it. especially if you count any romantic relationship shown or married people, but even if you ignore that.
do people have any recommendations of media (especially TV series) WITHOUT any sex, romance and crushing? (ideally without partnerships shown, but idk if that exists)
I haven't yet found anything that's in any physical store or library or streaming service, only Amazon books (I'm not getting something in the mail from outside my country the tax for that is like 100%).

Does anyone know any middle-grade books with good interesting adults? Like in Nevermoor? In most series cults are either almost absent, useless or made of cardboard…
In case someone is wondering why I don’t read adult literature in search of good adult characters, it’s because middle grade usually has adventures and world building which is more fun.

I enjoy novels with a bit of romance just like the next guy, but I'm getting sick of reading the same lame ass relationship dynamic where a masculine man with anger issues and overprotective tendencies (that end up paying off in the end) is with a feminine woman who has little to no personality besides sarcastic comments and sex appeal (and was obviously written by a man who had no idea how to write women).
That being said, does anyone have any book recommendations featuring a relationship dynamic that's more interesting and less misogynistic? Preferably where the woman is the dominant, masculine one in the relationship and the man is softer and more feminine.
(Bonus points if there's a kidnapping involved. I eat that shit for breakfast.)

I really am too goddamn jaded about the state of contemporary fantasy I feel like I haven't read anything published this decade that didn't make me roll my eyes but I know people are still writing and publishing decent stuff. They have to be. Statistically.
anyway recommend me good books. Stuff you've read that makes you go "damn I wish that booktok lot were talking about this instead"
Some stuff I already like to give you an idea of my taste:
LotR
Earthsea (and all Le Guins, especially Left Hand of Darkness and the Lathe of Heaven)
Realm of the Elderlings
Discworld
Robin McKinley
Imajica
A Song of Ice and Fire
Chaos Walking
Wayward Children
Diana Wynne Jones
The Princess Bride
Gail Carson Levine
Garth Nix
Obernewtyn
Witch Hat Atellier
Dungeon Meshi
As you can tell I'm really open to sci fi too, and kids books aren't a hard no. Romantasy will be a hard sell but if you read something that has More going on with it than just the romantasy (ie unique and well-done worldbuilding, broader and well crafted plot, a goddamn Theme), You May Attempt To Pursuade Me.
Not currently looking for manga recs but maybe in the future!

this might be a bit niche of a request for tumblr but: does anyone have recs for nonfiction books about disability rights/history during World War 2? specifically in regards to Nazi Germany?
I wanna read more nonfiction in 2025 and this is an aspect of history I've always been interested in but haven't tracked anything down for yet

I'm looking for book recs!
Things I'm looking for: urban fantasy, romance (especially romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and/or queer or polyamorous), political thrillers, mysteries (more Kay Hooper than John Grisham), easy fantasy
Things I'm not looking for: hard fantasy or sci fi, horror, lit fic, historical or Christian romance, YA, Colleen Hoover or Sarah J. Maas
Feel free to rec your own books, if they're out there somewhere! I appreciate any suggestions people have for me.
