~ “In Light of Cush/Kush the Dark” ~

“In Light of Cush/Kush the Dark” "The children of Jared are led astray by the illusions of Satan and his kindred. God revealed to him, the promise he had made to Cain and the command to his people to not hold intercourse with the children of Cain. God also ordered Jared and the people to not learn the ways of Cain’s children; for I am God who loves not hatred and works of iniquity. Jared continued to teach the children, but they began to transgress the commandments. https://inlightofkushthedark.blogspot.com/ https://www.academia.edu/43443031/_The_Eye_of_Cain_Pt_1

Theology Fact check:
Father Mapple’s Sermon (3-the lessons)
This Fact Check post considers Father Mapple’s three “lessons”, and assesses them against Biblical teaching.
Lesson 1: the nature of obedience
(drawn from Jonah’s disobedience)
“But all the things that God would have us do are hard for us to do—remember that—and hence, he oftener commands us than endeavors to persuade. And if we obey God, we must disobey ourselves; and it is in this disobeying ourselves, wherein the hardness of obeying God consists.”
This lesson pretty much reflects Paul’s internal monologue as described in Romans 7:15-20. ✅
Lesson 2: the nature of true repentance
(drawn from Jonah’s prayer)
“But observe his prayer, and learn a weighty lesson. For sinful as he is, Jonah does not weep and wail for direct deliverance. He feels that his dreadful punishment is just. He leaves all his deliverance to God … And here, shipmates, is true and faithful repentance; not clamorous for pardon, but grateful for punishment. … Shipmates, I do not place Jonah before you to be copied for his sin but I do place him before you as a model for repentance. Sin not; but if you do, take heed to repent of it like Jonah.”
This is profound! The only way any person can become right with God, is to cast themselves upon God’s grace and mercy. This lesson is consistent with the entirety of scripture. If you want a particular reference, here’s Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” ✅ ✅ ✅ ❤️
Lesson 3: the responsibilities of a preacher
(drawn from God’s calling of Jonah to Nineveh)
“How being an anointed pilot-prophet, or speaker of true things, and bidden by the Lord to sound those unwelcome truths in the ears of a wicked Nineveh, Jonah … sought to escape his duty and his God by taking ship at Joppa. But God is everywhere; God is everywhere … [and ultimately] Jonah did the Almighty’s bidding. And what was that, shipmates? To preach the Truth to the face of Falsehood! That was it!”
This lesson has two aspects, and both are Biblically consistent.
(1) The imperative to speak truth, even in dangerous situations (See Paul’s desire for courage to do this in Ephesians 6:19-20). ✅
(2) The higher accountability of teachers and pastors (See James 3:1). ✅
CONCLUSION
Father Mapple has done exceptionally well in his “lessons”.
Now I’m wondering –
Did Herman Melville transcribe a sermon he had heard, or did he write this sermon himself? If he wrote it himself, why? Did he think these lessons weren’t being preached in churches so he wanted to give them an airing in his book? Or was he just reflecting the preaching of the day? Was he hoping the words would hit well, or was he being ironic? So many questions …

Wolves Among the Sheep
Acts 20.29-30 (ESV)
I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock, and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them.
Our family includes a very large and opinionated cat named Squirt.  He was part of a feral group, but when I went into the back yard to shoo away the sire, one little guy disobeyed his mama's order to hide and, instead, stopped, turned toward me, and raised his nose to catch my scent.  I reached down and picked him up.  That was  fourteen years ago, and he's been with us ever since.
Why am I writing about a cat in what is supposed to be a Bible study? Because a lot of Christians are just like that cat.  Like most cats, Squirt loves sunshine and begs to be allowed outside on the back porch, where he can bask in the warm sun.  However, when the temperature drops to freezing and the wind off the mountain picks up, I tell him, 'No.  It's too cold.'
But the allure of the sunshine is just too hard to resist, so he goes to a south-facing window and stretches out on the sunny windowsill, where he naps in the warm sun.  He emerges from behind the drapes toasty warm, and he simply can't understand why I've insisted that it's cold outside.
A lot of Christians are just like that cat.  They go to a church service on Sunday morning, and if they come out feeling warm and fuzzy, they assume everything is just fine.  They don't bother to read the Bible to see whether what they've been told agrees with Scripture.
The Church has been under attack from its inception.  Lately, the attacks have grown much worse, for we are entering the last days of this age, and Satan knows that his time is short.
We have always had false teachers among us.  Even so, it grieves me to discover that some of the teachers whom I admired when I first came to the faith have been seduced by the world, have been lured away from the true faith, and are now preaching heresy.  I weep for them and I weep for those who have blindly followed them down that wide, easy road that leads to destruction.
I would not have believed the heresy they are teaching, had I not heard it with my own ears.
Our Lord warned us:
'Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.  For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.'  – Matthew 7.13-14
He immediately followed that with a warning:
'Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.  You will know them by their fruits.  Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?'  – Matthew 7.15-16
Do not follow blindly those who present themselves as preachers and teachers, though they may lead a congregation of thousands, for the world has invaded the Church, and many of its leaders have been seduced by money and fame.
I advise you once again to emulate the Bereans:
… they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see  whether these things were so.  – Acts 17.11
No matter how sweet the words sound to you, or how much the teachings tickle your ears, you must search the Word of God to see whether the things you are hearing are really true—or if they're only clever lies to lead you astray.
And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.  – Acts 20.32

Who Wants to be a Berean?
Definitely not I. I do not want to be likened to lost people searching the scriptures in lieu of their salvation (pre-salvation). Rather I am a saved person, a Saint, who is instructed by God to be a workman, to study scripture in order to come unto the knowledge of the truth with respect to the mystery revealed to Paul (post salvation). The Bereans were unsaved Jews. Are you comfortable with…

A Review of the Berean Standard Bible.
A Review of the Berean Standard Bible.
I purchased this Bible in genuine cowhide leather. The edition I chose was Atlantic blue. It was listed as, “Genuine Leather – Tosca Cowhide Atlantic.” You can look at the product page via this link. I wasn’t aware that another edition had been published. When I saw that it had, I purchased one. The last Bible I received from the folks who run Biblehub.com was the Berean Study Bible. Keep in…

To my fellow Christians, continue to be good Bereans. Many false prophets and teachers have gone out into the world -- distorting the Gospel, bringing reproach upon the Name of God and twisting Scripture -- and they do not care about your spiritual health and development.
If someone gives a false prophecy, or says they have a word from the Lord and it does not come to past -- do not listen to them. Doctrine and lifestyle must be used to determine if the teacher is a good teacher or a false one. Avoid the false teachers and call them out. It isn't loving not to call them out because if we do not call false teachers out, they will destroy people. Pray that God will give them mercy and repentance.

[Discerning False Prophets]
Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.
1 John 4:1
.
.
There are numerous of false prophets out there that it’s not even funny. So many Christians are being deceived by them. Always TEST the spirit folks, and ALWAYS make sure what these people are saying line up with scripture. Be like the Bereans who searched the scriptures daily.
And ALWAYS read scripture in CONTEXT. These so-called “prophets” are always reading scripture WAY out of context as well as twisting it to suit their stupid prophecies.
Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves” (Matthew 7:15). False prophets will say things that contradict the teachings of Jesus, the Law, the Scriptures, and other prophecies from the Holy Spirit recorded in the Bible. One of the most common false prophecies given by deceivers, especially amongst cult leaders, is they can predict the End of Days, even though the Bible says, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only” (Matthew 24:36).
So here’s a message for you false prophets:
“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
-Matthew 7:21-23
[BONUS VERSE]
No prophecy ever originated from humans. Instead, it was given by the Holy Spirit as humans spoke under God's direction.
-2 Peter 1:21

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." (1 John 4:1).
Christians are to be discerning hearers and readers of all messages. There are “many false prophets” or “wolves in sheep’s clothing” that try to lead us astray, presenting a false gospel that is powerless to save.
We are to compare what is being taught with the clear teaching of the Bible, the Word of God. Therefore, the way to test the spirits is to see if what is being taught is in line with the clear teaching of Scripture, like what the Berean Jews did in Acts 17:10-11.
In order to be discerning, Christians need to diligently study the Scriptures- For the Word of God is “a lamp” and “a light” to our path (Psalm 119:105).
