Me, flirting: did you know that many 19th-century beauty manuals advised putting on cold cream before you went out in the sun to prevent sunburn? And some recipes for cold cream back then contained zinc oxide? So they might have accidentally invented sunscreen?

Now I’m looking at this drawing with froggy hair and I think he would powder it blue. They powdered their hair in different colors back then. It could be pink, blue, lilac, gray etc. Of course people also dyed it, but the ways of doing it were either very delicate (like boiling chestnuts for brown, chamomile tea for golden blonde etc) or quite dangerous (to bleach hair they used lye).
In 1950’ in the USA there was trend with putting colorful streaks on hair - pink, yellow, blue.

And still in 2023 you’re judged as weird or mentally unstable when you dye your hair pink. 🙄

I started drawing the Ever After High girls in random historical fashion eras… why? I have no idea

Raven Queen in 1890s, Apple White in Italian Renaissance.

Briar Beauty in 1920s, Madeline Hatter in 1880s
No particularly reason for the eras, just the vibe I get from the characters and their designs!

"just as I did, in 1983."
you'd never know my favourite parts of the show are the fucked up insane bits when my first instinct is to draw the cheesiest thing imaginable

I scrolled past a post that made brief mention of poisonous lead makeup in the course of saying something completely unrelated and I DIDN'T reblog it with a five-paragraph discussion of how Venetian ceruse was way less common than people imagine in 16th-18th century Europe and how, not only did they know it was an issue, but at least one unpopular socialite had her death blamed on it (with no evidence whatsoever) and many people still believe that to this day
(ancient Rome also had leaded makeup but I don't know what the culture around it was at that point in time)
