National Ranch Day
Usually a sidekick for a variety of other foods, National Ranch Day brings that delightful flavor of this delicious dressing to the forefront of attention. No longer a condiment or an afterthought, ranch dressing is definitely the special guest star of the day!
History of National Ranch Day
The story of ranch dressing dates back several decades, to the late 1940s. In fact, the claim to the first creation of this strictly American condiment goes to a man named Steve Henson who originally thought of the concoction of buttermilk and herbs when he was working in Alaska.
After moving to California and purchasing the Hidden Valley dude ranch in California, Henson started serving and selling his salad dressing commercially. The company grew through mail-order and started to become very popular throughout the United States.
Ranch style dressing was originally sold as dry packets of herbs and spices that were meant to be mixed with milk and mayonnaise. Today, it can still be found in this powdered style, which is particularly easy for travel, or it can be purchased in bottles that are pre-mixed and ready to eat.
Now, one of the most popular salad dressings and condiments that is sold in the United States. Beyond just pouring it on top of salads, ranch dressing has some other versatile serving options that can’t be beat!
National Ranch Day is here to show appreciation for and pay attention to the deliciousness of ranch dressing.
How to Celebrate National Ranch Day
Take a break from boring and enjoy National Ranch Day with lots of fun and different ways to celebrate. Get started with some of these ideas:
Enjoy Ranch Dressing
One of the best things that can be done in honor of National Ranch Day is to include it in any and every meal and snack eaten on this day! Of course, ranch dressing can be poured on top of a delicious and nutritious salad, but there are other ways to eat it also.
Make it up into a delicious dip for veggies like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and celery. Or use it for dipping items like chicken nuggets or fish sticks. Other ideas for eating ranch might include drizzling it on top of tasty pizza or a pile of french fries. Some people like to put ranch dressing on corn on the cob, or even on top of chili. Of course, it is delicious with buffalo wings!
Whatever way is preferred, this is definitely the day for getting creative with ranch dressing.
Hold a Ranch Dressing Taste Test
National Ranch Dressing Day is a great time to have fun checking out which ranch dressing is the best one of all. It might be fun to host a ranch dressing taste test in the breakroom at work or just in the kitchen at home. Have coworkers or friends participate in a blind taste test, have each person vote on which one is best, and then name the winning brand as the reigning champion!

Down with sickness over @dante-mightdie ‘s blue collar!simon and his fixation with having a good meal
Your boyfriend works on the same construction site as Simon. He’s a serviceable worker, but a right fuckin pillock sometimes. Goes out for lunch every day with his mates like he’s got money to burn or something. And he’ll leave behind a neatly folded paper bag with a sticker on it a couple of times a week.
Eventually, Simon gets so tired of seeing it he thinks fuck it, why let it go to waste? He opens it up to see a little piece of memo paper with quickly inked handwriting on it alongside some storybook characters. Have a good day <3.
Inside there’s an insulated container with some hot tomato soup, accompanied by a hearty turkey, bacon, and lettuce club wrapped in wax paper on toasted bread. On the side are some apple slices and baby carrots. There’s a single wrapped heart shaped chocolate. And he’s kind of in heaven— god knows how long it’s been since anyone had ever prepared something like this for him.
Did your dumbass boyfriend have any idea that there were men that would kill to have a sweet thing sending them off to work with home-made lunches? Fuck, you probably have dinner waiting when he comes home, too. He’d only seen you once, when you’d come to drop something off for your man. Pretty. Pearls before swine.
Simon uses the last few minutes of his break to swing by the foreman’s office and check the employee records. Next time your fuckhead boyfriend goes out for lunch, Simon’ll be headed to yours to show you how a pretty bird ought to be thanked for taking such good care of her man.

Bunny

pairing: Katuski Bakugo x Hybrid!reader
genre: smut (fluff if you squint)
words: 3.4k
notes: bunny hybrid reader, breeding, covert intentions, pet/owner dynamic
Taking you in was no problem for the young bustling hero. He didn’t have a girlfriend and only hung out with his friend. Whenever he wasn’t at work or with his friends, he’s at home with you.
“Katsukii~, can you help me please?”
If anyone were to ask, he would take being at home with you over any of that any day. Maybe it’s because he secretly wants something to take care of. Katuski rolls out of the bed happily putting his slippers on. You can hear him shuffle down the hall and you’re soon met with an half-naked Katsuki with an annoyed look etched across his face.
“Why the fuck are you on the counter?” and there you were, cotton tail peaking out of your booty shorts slightly with each twitch. Your floppy brown ears are sticking out of one of your many custom made bonnets Katsuki had to order for you.
“The better question is why the fu-fuck is everything so high up? I’ve been here for months and I still need your help to get a plate” He finds your attempts to adopt his cussing habits adorable “watch it bunny, you still need my help plus why wouldnt you want me doing everything for you? Stay in a pets place.” As he’s saying all this he’s lifting you off the counter and commanding you to wrap your legs around his waist — naturally you obey. The feeling of your silky legs and arms draped around his large body makes him warm inside. “I’m not your pet..” he can hear you mumble this slightly resting your head on his shoulder.
Katsuki scoffs and uses his free hand to grab a plate for you. “You’re such a brat, you were just on my lap yesterday eating carrots out of my hands.” He can see your tail twitch quickly up and down then stand straight up. “I am not a brat nor a pet! You’re so mean” Even when you try to unlatch your legs, his other arm is still firm around your waist. “Why don’t I finish up in here and we’ll have breakfast in bed” you dangle for a moment then shake your head yes in response prompting the young man to place you on the ground gently.
Just like that he can see your body relax again, grabbing his hand you pull him down planting a wet kiss on his cheek. You walk back to the room tail twitching happily behind. You can hear him laugh as you climb back into bed waiting for your master. An hour later, he’s coming in toting a tray full of pancakes, carrots, juice, and bacon. You two enjoy breakfast together with Katsuki hand feeding you damn near everything and smacking your hand away every time you attempt to feed yourself. Per usual, after any meal, you were fast asleep giving Katsuki enough time to get ready for work.
The moment katsuki buckles his garter you were up asking him where he is going. He could hear the sad tone in your voice and turns around to see your famous pout that makes him weak.
“I was called in bunny, I have to go.” Grabbing the now empty tray off the nightstand katsuki exits the room setting the tray on the counter to wash the dishes. You round the corner with the same pout and sad tone “Do you have to leave? Can’t you stay just this once?” he can see the tears threatening to spill and this is when he knew he had to go before you pity your way to him staying. You follow him all the way to the front door where his boots lay.
“I have to go, I promise I’ll be back early tonight” he slips on heavy boots and places a kiss on your forehead when he is done. Upon arriving to his hero agency he spots an all familiar red and yellow combo standing in front of his building catering to the many employees who’ve gathered around them. “What the fuck are you two doing here?” The moment they hear the booming blondes voice they’re parting through the sea of employees who now seem to be scrambling away from their ferocious boss.
“Oh come on kacchan! You gotta admit you’re a bit excited to be working with us” Katsuki couldn’t admit to enjoying the presence of his friends but he definitely didn’t protest having the young men by his side. Todays assignment is simple just patrolling the city where civilians seem to become wary of their hero’s. “We went earlier while waiting for you but they won’t even talk to us” Eijiro says following being his friend.
“We’re just going to interview some citizens today, outside of our uniforms” Katsuki immediately turns around already disapproving of this decision. ”Why would we do that?” His friends look at eachother as if they were trying to telepathically speak to eachother about who is going to tell him the obvious. ”Katsuki..bud..youre not the most..inviting person. Being outside of your uniform is less..threatening to the citizens” he eyes the young blonde. Katsuki scoffs at his statement and replies, “Let’s just get this over with.”
Upon patrolling Katsuki noticed how skittish or disgusted the town folks were towards them. “It’s kinda nice” Eijiro says, “Not being bombarded by fans or interviewers that is..not the fact that they practically run away from us whenever we get too close.” Katsuki gives him a stern look prompting him to laugh and walk ahead to talk to a woman approaching with what seems to be her boyfriend or husband. Denki and Katsuki stay behind watching the red head engage with the two pedestrians. The conversation seems to be going well, the woman is happily conversing with Eijiro while the her boyfriend stands off to the side. Katsuki notices the way her boyfriend is visibly upset, his fist are balled, face frowned, and his stance is directly adjacent to Eijiro.
That’s when he notices a crowd slowly forming around them. He doesn’t understand how the pedestrians who were at first minding their business and practically running from the bustling hero’s are now creeping up slowly and almost inconspicuously. “We need to leave. NOW.” The volume of Katsuki voice seems to activate the creeping citizens. Before they knew it hundreds of pedestrians were coming out of alleyways and on top of buildings brandishing their powers and weapons catching the men by surprise. Eijiro is quick to join his friends again “where the fuck did all these people come from?” Katsuki doesn’t even answer he’s too busy silently cursing at himself and the men who dragged him on this suicide mission.
“I thought not wearing our hero suits would help!” Denki states as he lightly releases bolts to push the groups back. “You dumbass, uniforms or not they were going to attack regardless.” Katsuki doesn’t give them a chance to touch him and he doesn’t hesitate to blast them back. This ordeal lasted 4 hours, Denki and Eijiro especially had a hard time due to trying to ‘talk it out and explain’ with citizens who had no plans on discussing anything with them.
It seems like everything is pissing Katsuki off today from taking this busted ass assignment to Kaminari nearly getting fried to death. He just needs some solace and that’s exactly what you were at the moment. “Bunny, come here. Let’s play” he could see your tail twitch behind you excitedly as you happily run over to him. The only thing he could focus on is your breast and your fat brown nipples peeking through your white top.
“What are we going to play today?” you say excitedly standing in front of him. He couldn’t get enough of you. Your luminous brown skin paired with your fluffy white shorts and a tank top that is definitely too small for you now but hugs your tits just right. Katsuki can feel the blood start to flow below making his dick jump and twitch just at the sight of you in front of him. “Katsukiii~ what are we going to play?” You sit in his lap shuffling to put your legs on opposing sides placing you face to face with your owner.
“You’ve been spacing out since you’ve been home, why?” Your cotton tail is still swinging behind you causing a bit of friction between you two below. “I just had a bad day sweetie, let’s play.” His fingers glide along your side masking the heinous intentions he has in place. See Katsuki has a slight obsession with tickling you, your first week there Katsuki tickled you so much you peed on him a little. To this day he teases you about ‘pissing on his thigh’ “Why are you running from me already? I haven’t said start yet so you know what that means” you shake your head alarm bells start to ring in your head. Attempting to shake out his embrace you say “Katsuki I don’t want to play! You’re trying to tickle me!“
The young man rolls his eyes at you and says “Let’s change locations, I don’t want to be on this shitty couch anymore” you turn your head at his statement because he was the one pitching a fit about the couch being from a specific brand. Before you could answer there he is lifting you off the couch throwing you over his shoulder striding to the bedroom. “You know I can walk by myself-“ he interrupts your talking with a hard slap on your ass. Your tail starts to shake in his face aggressively and the kicks you were delivering to his abdominal made him laugh. “Alright alright! I’m sorry!”
Upon reaching the room Katsuki is quick to throw you on the bed and trap you under him so you don’t try to run. “I’ll be quick bunny, I swear” he starts kneading at your sides softly maintaining his piercing gaze which definitely contrast the mood he’s trying to set with you. “Fineee, but when I say stop, you have to stop! I don’t want to pee again!” he gives you a star winning grin feeling his fingers trail up your sides slowly then quickly attacks them. You burst in a fit of laughter immediately feeling his fingers trail up to your armpit. Instinctively locking your arms scrambling to get away from your handsy attacker. “Alright Katsuki !!! I can- I cant!”
He lets go of the hold he has on you smiling at the way you snort and cringe under him. He loves watching you. “Round two sweetie?” He doesn’t even let you answer as he starts attacking your sides and armpits again. The tears threatening to spill from your eyes as you shuffle under him noticing something poking and prodding you below. In between your laughter you say “Katsuki!! You’re poking me!!” He can feel the wave of embarrassment wash over him but god the way you were grinding under him felt heavenly. “Let’s try something else bunny” His fingers ghost down your torso slightly, you’re anticipating a tickle attack but instead they slip under your shorts.
You’re wide eyed at this point grabbing his wrist from traveling any further. “What are you doing?” he uses his free hand to cup your chunky cheeks and with sincerity in his eyes he says “I just need your help with something bunny but let me help you first”. You shyly nod at him, releasing the grip you had on him in order to let his fingers explore you.
Towering over you his eyes don’t leave yours, it’s as if he’s trying to record this moment to memory. Katsuki uses his middle and ring fingers to tease your slit and stops at your now sensitive bud to gently massage circles into it. A new sensation starts to take over you — your ears are hot and for once seem to irritate you as they stick to your now hot body. “I’m hot suki~” your whiny tone paired with you saying the cute as nickname you gave him, makes the front of his boxers tight. He didn’t hesitate to remove his hand to lift your heavy bottom to take off your shorts.
“Do you want to take your top off too?” His voice is so sweet and soft in a different way which seems to go straight below causing an uncomfortable headache like experience. “Yes please” Instead of being normal he decides to rip your top down the middle so you don’t have to sit up. “Sukiii why would you do that?” He shrugs in response you notice his attention is on your naked form and for once you realize the difference between you two. You jump up scooting away from Katsuki in order to cover yourself with one of the many pillows behind you. “I-I don’t want to be the only one naked..” he laughs at your omission, steps out of bed slipping out of his only piece of clothing. Springing out is his beautiful shaft, long and thick just like the carrots he feeds you. “Staring is rude. if you want to lick c’mere” you crawl over to the end of bed where he is standing proudly as his member twitches in front of your face. You sit on your knees looking up at him nervously prompting him to massage your ears past your curls. Anytime he does this you turn into putty. You wrap your hand around the base of his shaft making his dick jump in response, intrigued you move closer lolling your tongue out to lick his red mushroom tip.
Katsuki is struggling to let you explore on your own the little licks you were doing just wasn’t enough. “Open your mouth bunny and suck your cheeks in” you obey his command instantly “yeah just like that” his hands slide to the back of your head lacing his fingers through your curls. “Breathe through your nose.” He doesn’t expect a response just obedience. He starts by pushing you all the way down his shaft slowly groaning at how warm and wet your mouth is. Most importantly, he is loving how easy this is coming to you his hands have abandoned the back of your head and have now found a grip on your ears again.
He could see you shuffling almost humping the bed as you bob your head faster. The louder he became the more your body reacted. “Mmmm deeper bunny~” you hum in response causing his hips to buck in response pushing the rest of his shaft in. Katsuki takes over after this, he’s using your ears to bob your head faster on his cock. You inhale sharply to keep up with the brutal pace as spit bubbles start to form in the corners of your mouth. You can feel his member throbbing in your mouth and a low long groan escape his lips then you felt a warm liquid squirts down your throat. “Shit! I’m sorry- I meant to pull out” he lets go of your ears allowing you to finally pull away from him coughing up whatever didn’t go down your esophagus.
His dick is still point at you but now covered in saliva and cum. You were still shuffling on the bed disgusted by the wetness that has soaked the spot where you sit. “Tell me what you feel bunny, so suki~ can help” he says his nickname as you would when trying to be sweet. “It hurts suki” tears fall from your eyes and he’s by your side instantly “Hey, hey, it’s okay! You’re okay, I’ll make you feel better” he prompts you to the top of the bed and lay on your back.
You listen to the young man and he centers himself between your legs making sure to soothe any anxiety you had about the predicament. “It’ll be okay bunny, It’ll hurt at first but I promise you’ll feel good” he angels his hips with yours feeling his now-throbbing member glide along your drenched folds making the headache below more intense. “Suki please~” your body feels like it’s on fire and it seems like every slow agonizing hump is going to send you over the edge.
He finally lines up with your hole after grinding two more times. “Tell me if it hurts, okay ?” You shake your head in response and he pulls away. You start to whine and reach your arms out to catch him but you were too slow. “I need you to say it bunny” you look up at him and say “I promise Katsuki, can you please hurry!” He laughs at your eagerness placing one of his arms on the side of your head to hold himself up while he lines his tip to your soaking hole. Slowly he pushes in trying to judge whether you were enjoying this.
Your nose is twitching feverishly and he can feel you uncomfortably shift under him. “Does it hurt?” Katsuki is breathless above you which you’ve only seen him like this after a workout or a long day. It feels nice to make him like this. “Only a little but I’m fine! I swear!” He eyes you cautiously but continues to push the rest of his shaft inside. He isn’t sure how long it’s been since he’s been with someone but he knows they will never compare to you after this. The way you’re inviting him in should be illegal.
Katsuki could feel the stress of today melt away looking down at you in your most natural state. Once your moan falls onto his ears he’s on you caging you under him, arms on both sides of your head. “I see you’re used to it now” every word he speaks sounds breathy and desperate you wrap your arms and legs around him, pulling him closer and deeper soliciting a whiny cry from you. “Don’t worry babe, I got you” his pace is slow at first gradually picking up speed with every moan and grunt that fills the room. The pressure that was building below hasn’t stopped but it’s no longer painful. Your moans were soon muffled by a passionate and sweet kiss paired with the restless pace he adopted is making you drunk.
Katsuki wants to swallow and suck every moan and bit of pleasure he can from you. His hands are no longer holding him up but sliding up the back of your thighs stopping behind your knees. “Let me see that cotton tail” he pushes your legs forward spreading them to each side of your head “wait suk-“ he doesn’t hesitate to push his member back into your sticky walls groaning at the feeling. He’s a lot deeper than he was before your legs and tail twitch at the pressure that is building in your womb. He tries to give you time to become accustomed to this new position but every thrust threatens his composure and his impending release. “Yo- You’re such a good girl” and thats what sends you over, you can feel the tension below burst as a wave of pleasure washes over you. “Suki~ faster..please!”
How could he every say no to you? He doesnt answer letting his hips slam into you at a brutal pace. His eyelids were heavy and paired with the sound of your moans he cant control himself. “M’gonna fill you up. You’re such a good bunny, squeezing my dick like this. M’gonna give you what you want”.
The grip he had on you is shaky and his dick convulses uncontrollably inside of you before filling you with warmth. This is the first time you’ve ever seen Katsuki lose his composure and it is beautiful. He doesnt pull out immediately instead he lets your legs go, falling on each side of him, he leans down and places a passionate kiss on your lips. “I didn’t mean to be rough, I’m sorry bunny.” Yo
Your nose twitches and you wrap your arms around his neck pulling him in for another kiss. He pulls out of you prompting you to wince in response and just like that he’s at your lying at your side. “I love you” he pulls you close wrapping you in his muscular arms “I love you too Suki.” cuddling up next to him you can feel the activities from tonight wearing you out. Soon you two were asleep holding one another.

blackbird, fly - iv.
Cowboy Gaz x mail order bride—only, not his. After exchanging letters for half a year with ranching man Hans König, you finally travel out west to marry him. . Gaz had been the only one to try and warn you. . ao3
previous
When you wake the next morning, Hans’ side of the bed is empty, the linens already cold.
As sleep leaves you in fits and starts, the aches pull you inward—glowing dull and orange like banked embers. Your whole body feels like a twisted ankle. Nothing is broken, exactly, but every muscle feels as if it’s been pulled in a direction God never quite intended it to move.
Your shoulders. The meat of your thighs. Your hips.
The entrance to your womb.
It isn’t the knife-sharp pain from before. Only the muted, persistent throb of a wound left alone to heal. In the cottony space between sleep and waking, you think there should be more damage—for all of what happened last night. And yet, there isn’t.
Still, you don’t move when your eyes finally open. Stillness seems the only defense against the bare truth of the gray morning.
Your husband used you hard on your wedding night, and did not care for the pain he caused.
You are not fool enough to think your experience unique. Women talked as much as girls did. Your mother’s friends were wont to complain when they thought the children out of earshot: husbands who grunted and sweated over them in the night, often without uttering a word. Sometimes not even waiting for the pain of childbirth to subside before claiming their marital due.
You just had come to believe, with every letter that arrived, that your fate would be different.
But it turns out none of this is a dream after all.
Your throat closes, then. Tears prick hot in the corners of your eyes.
Stupid, stupid girl.
You swallow hard. Sit up away from the pillows, even as the aches flare in protest.
Beside you, where your husband slept, there’s a noticeable dip in the mattress. Worn in over years of slumber, and you, you suppose, on Anna’s side of the bed.
Was Hans kind to her too, before?
Abruptly you swing your legs out from the linens, and go to find one of the dresses you brought along from home.
The house is empty when you descend the stairs, as far as you can tell. You hear the steady tick, tock of a grandfather clock somewhere in the sitting room that you hadn’t noticed yesterday, in all of the commotion of the wedding preparations. The floorboards creak beneath your feet as your grumbling stomach leads you along to the kitchen.
The space is as modern and well-appointed as the rest of the house, and bigger than any kitchen you ever imagined needed to be. A cast-iron wood stove with four burners and a large oven, a sink with a pump right there by the basin, and—you nearly stop dead at the luxury—an ice box, right there beside one long counter.
You momentarily forget the troubles of the night, crouching beside the little box in fascination. A cloud of cool fog descends when you swing open the door; you brush the tips of your fingers across the huge block of ice on the top shelf, jerking them away when the cold unexpectedly burns. Not once in your life have you ever seen so much ice in one place.
On the lower shelf, you find cuts of pork and beef, wrapped in brown butcher’s paper and tied with string. Bacon for breakfast, then, and biscuits if you can find flour. Your mother always said that a difficult thing was easier after having a meal.
You find the larder stocked with further luxury. Nowhere are the home-jarred goods that would populate your family’s pantry, garden-grown vegetables pickled in vinegar or hand-pressed jams fresh from the blackberry bushes along the road. Instead you find rows and rows of cans, factory-sealed tins of manufactured uniformity, colorfully labeled and containing everything you might have ever thought to grow yourself and more.
Beans of every variety. Corn. Carrots. Peas. Beets. Tomatoes.
How much must all this have cost? So many, and lined up deep into the back of the larder. You and Hans couldn’t possible eat them all before some of them began to spoil. Of course, if he could afford to buy so much, maybe that didn’t matter.
You find the flour, and baking powder as well. Breakfast is a quick affair after that, and thankfully so, as your stomach really begins to complain as soon as the food is ready.
There’s a small table in the kitchen—yet more luxury, you think, remembering the long dining table you saw yesterday—and it’s there you sit down to solve your hunger.
The hard wooden chair is not kind to the ache between your legs.
You bite into the bacon, crunching it to pieces. There—it’s all right. You have your breakfast. Isn’t that something to be grateful for? Breakfast, and a nice stove, and an ice box, and a kitchen so stuffed with food that you can’t imagine ever running out.
Isn’t this what a loving husband provides? A good home, for his wife to live comfortably in? Pretty dresses, like the one he gave to you last night? A nice ring on your finger—the little gem glittering in the sunlight streaming in through the kitchen window?
Hans loves you. Of course. This is love.
You bite into one biscuit, hot and steaming from the pan and burning your tongue. Your mother can make them better, but you tried the best you could to follow the recipe she taught you.
The front door opens outside of the kitchen. Something quick and sharp travels up your spine. Heavy boots step inside—your husband, come looking for you—you freeze without realizing it, holding half-chewed food in your mouth—
“Mrs. König?” calls Kate Laswell, the foreman, and you relax.
“In here,” you call, after swallowing.
Laswell enters the kitchen, and turns to you, at the table. She’s dressed in mens’ clothes, dusty trousers and a heavy jacket over a button-up shirt, and a wide-brimmed hat still on her head. She looks like she’s dressed to travel.
“I’m afraid I can’t show you the accounts today, like I said I would,” she tells you, no preamble, no pleasantries.
You remember then your brief conversation with her the previous night—and Hans’ disapproval at the idea.
You set down your biscuit. “Good morning, Miss Laswell. Why not?”
“I’m going over to visit the Vargas place. We’ve been working on a leasing deal. I’ll explain when I get back.”
“Of course,” you say. “Would—” you clear your throat, embarrassed— “Would you know where my husband might be?”
The lines of Laswell’s face tighten. She has a severe look to her that you think is always present—ranch work must harden anyone, man or woman—but there is no wedding happening around you now to distract you from the unmistakable displeasure on her face.
“Last I saw he was out with the herd,” she says shortly. “Anyway, I’ll be gone for a few days. The ledger is in the cabinet by the desk. Take a look at it if you find the time.”
She tips her hat to you before you can figure out how to respond—some part of you bristles at being given orders by someone who is now, ostensibly, your employee—and leaves the kitchen. You scramble to follow her, and catch her when she’s nearly out the door.
“Miss Laswell,” you call, “is Hans—is my husband—”
You’re not very sure what you intended to ask her, before you began the question. Nor, you realize, do you think she could answer honestly, if you asked her what you really wanted to know. It wouldn’t be her place, and it would be inappropriate of you to ask.
If you could actually work up the courage to approach it.
So you settle for, “Is my husband angry with me?”
She stops, and blinks at you. You see her look you up and down, briefly, but when she meets your eyes her expression is impossible to read.
“I have no idea,” she says, and her tone betrays nothing. “Gaz wants to see you in the stables when you have a moment today. Ma’am.”
She nods farewell at you and leaves.
The steady ticking of the grandfather clock punctuates the end of the odd exchange. Disoriented, you return to the kitchen to clear away the remnants of your breakfast, flushing in confusion.
Do you really want this?
His question rings now in your ears. Along with it come memories of the previous night. The Madame’s odd interest in you. The store owner Miss Boucher’s sidelong glance at Hans. Myriad other quirks of the brow or mouth that you only now grasp the meaning of.
Everyone knew, somehow, what was coming. Everyone except you.
And Gaz had been the only one to try and warn you.
You tug on a shawl as you step out onto the front porch, breathing in the mountain air. The morning chill hasn’t yet burned off, and the sky has yet to gain its full color. Across the clearing, Kyle Garrick is at work in the stable’s corral.
He holds one end of a long lead, attached at the other to the bridle of a red-brown horse, which trots in a wide circle around him. Occasionally, with the lunge-whip he holds in his free hand, Gaz taps the horse’s hindquarters, redirecting it patiently whenever it tries to move inward or otherwise deviate from its orbit.
Horses are scared creatures, Miss, I don’t know if you know this, Hans had written. You must be gentle when you train them, or destine them to a lifetime of anxiety.
When you approach, the horse’s attention briefly turns toward you, but Gaz taps it again and it goes back into its pacing. You have a moment to admire the long line of the cowboy’s body, the focused angles of his shoulders and hips, before he addresses you, sensing your presence without having to turn and look at you.
“Good morning, miss,” he says. “Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, thank you,” you say. It feels dishonest, even if it isn’t a lie. “Good morning, Mr. Garrick.”
The horse makes its way past you, and then Gaz brings it to a stop. He winds up the lead in one hand and makes his way over to you, meeting you where you stand by the corral fence.
You can’t help but notice how handsome he looks in the light of late morning. The serious expression on his face is the same one he’d worn the day before; you suspect it’s his natural disposition.
You remember the brief smile he’d shown you last night, before Hans had taken you away, and your cheeks warm despite yourself.
“I thought I might introduce you to the horses today,” he says. “If you’ve got the time, that is.”
“Oh,” you gasp, suddenly eager, “Please! I’ve been looking forward to it ever since Hans proposed! I told him about the two old nags we had on our farm, to pull our wagon, and he said—”
We must get you on a proper horse, then, to show you the true pleasure riding may offer.
You stop mid-sentence. Something about what Hans had written rings in your memory now with a different note. It seems…mocking, almost. Imbued purposefully with a meaning intended to escape you, given you had not the experience enough to catch it.
Shame blooms painfully behind your breastbone.
“…He mentioned he’d bring me to meet them,” you say lamely.
The smile Gaz gives you doesn’t reach his eyes. “He’s very busy, or I suppose he would be today.”
“I suppose,” you echo.
Gaz inhales deeply, and then he gestures to the red-brown horse. “Well—this here is Newt. I’ve been getting him used to the bridle today.”
“Hello, Newt,” you say to the horse. You reach a hand out, briefly, but then pull it back; your instinct is to let the horse get your scent, like you might with a farm dog, but you don’t know if you should. Your father had always handled the nags.
Gaz notices, and brings one big hand to Newt’s long face, squeezing the arch of his muzzle. The horse’s eyes droop in obvious pleasure.
“He’s a big baby,” says Gaz, expression gentling. “I’m trying to see if he’ll make a good cutter, but it’s too early to tell.”
You reach out again. Newt’s velvety nostrils flare as he inhales, and then his hot breath bathes your hand and wrist. You suppose you have his approval, because Newt simply works his teeth a little and makes no indication of displeasure.
“A cutter?”
“Yeah. The kind of horse that can cut a steer out from the herd so you can drive it someplace else,” Gaz explains. “Horses either got cow-sense, or they don’t. Here, come around inside and I’ll show you the rest.”
Long Mask Ranch, Hans had written, built its reputation on the quality of its quarter horses. In the early days of its inception, his father had struck an extremely lucrative deal providing the US Army with its cavalry mounts, which had turned out to be a perfect way for the ranch’s reputation to spread. Even after the army mostly withdrew from the region, every state in the surrounding countryside knew: if you wanted good horses, you went to Long Mask.
“These are the yearlings,” Gaz explains as he leads you through the stable. “Just now we’re getting them trained to follow directions. Won’t be riding ‘em for a couple years yet.”
He puts Newt away and beckons you to follow. In the neighboring stall, one of the horses pokes its head out over the gate. It’s a light-colored colt, yellowish in the body and white-maned.
“This is Gus,” Gaz says, scratching its fuzzy chin. “He’s a big flirt, yeah, aren’t you, boy?”
You also reach out to give Gus a pat, and the colt chuffs and butts his nose into your hand, proving Gaz’s accusation. You can’t help giggling a little.
When another horse across the building snorts, Gaz chuckles, and leads you in the direction of the noise. “Ah, yeah, and that’s Woodrow. Him and Gus are always goin’ at it, but you won’t ever see better friends.”
Woodrow is dark gray horse with a distinctly unamused face. He accepts a pat on the forehead with what you can only describe as resigned patience. Gaz feeds him a sugar cube from one pocket for his trouble.
He takes you further along down the line of stalls. You meet a spirited filly named Elmira, and a colt beside her named July whose love for her is unrequited.
“We’ve already gelded him, so it wouldn’t matter much anyway,” Gaz relates.
He speaks fondly of every horse as you meet them, with the familiarity of long days working beside each of them. It relaxes him, you realize, to speak of them—the hard set of his expression has softened, the serious line of his brows eased from their iron setting.
It makes him look—not younger, you decide, but properly his age. A cowboy just beginning the best years of his career, still hale and fit enough to meet the rough demands of the job, but with enough experience under his belt to confront any challenge with confidence.
Such confidence is obvious in the way he moves. He walks loose and easy through the stable, his every step as assured as the sunrise the next morning. The line of his broad shoulders, the swooping curve of his back—they tell you at a mere glance that home is in this place, working with these creatures, and there could be nothing more Kyle Garrick might long for besides.
Envy twists your intestines around its fingers. There’s an empty space inside of you that you’d been expecting, as your wedding vows had finally taken flight, to fill with that same feeling.
At the end of the stable, in a stall in the back corner, a horse pokes its head out over the gate. It’s bigger than the yearlings, with a pale face and a dark, gray muzzle. It looks right at you, with such a clear focus that it startles you.
“Ah,” says Gaz, when he sees. “Was wondering if she’d notice us.”
“She?”
He nods. “A mare. She’s…difficult.”
The mare stares at you, with deep, night-black eyes.
“What do you mean?” you ask.
Gaz works his lips over his teeth. “Mr. König bought her last year off another rancher who was ‘bout fit to shoot her. She’s a thoroughbred, and she ain’t never met a white man she likes. As like to buck a man off as to let him ride.”
“Oh,” you say.
Gaz leans against the wall between two stalls. “Mr. König thought he might be able to break her. So far she hasn’t gotten him off her, but she won’t let him come near without putting up a fight. I’m the only one can saddle ‘er.”
You frown. “Why would he ride a horse that doesn’t want to be ridden?”
At that, Gaz’s eyes go cold. Shockingly cold, like an empty winter’s night. “Suppose he just likes taking what he wants, I guess.”
You should reprimand him. You know it immediately. It’s no way to talk about his employer, and certainly nothing he should ever say in front of you, his employer’s wife.
But you remember the blood, and still feel the ache. You have to look away from him, ashamed. Embarrassed.
You cannot defend your husband, and he must know it.
“I imagine he must know what he’s about,” you mumble.
Gaz gives a derisive snort. “I don’t know about that. He’s of a mind to start with thoroughbreds, but she will not let him breed her. Damn near killed every stallion he’s brought her to try.”
It hits you so sharply that you inhale with sudden pain, pressure knifing at your eyes. You turn away from Gaz entirely now, pressing your hands to your chest. Every ache from the night previous ricochets around inside you again, knocking all the way down into your bones.
You tip your head upward, as if it will prevent the gathering tears from falling. What’s worse, Gaz puts a hand on your shoulder behind you. You flinch at the touch, hips aching where Hans had bruised them in his grip.
“I’m sorry, Miss,” Gaz says softly. He sounds like he means it. “I shouldn’t have said that.”
He knows exactly what ails you. And why wouldn’t he? He’s known his employer for years. He’s worked this ranch for longer than you’ve even known of its existence.
He knew the previous Mrs. König, who first endured Hans’ attentions.
You are a terrible fool, and you are the last to know it.
He doesn’t remove his hand as you tremble. He squeezes you gently, the same caress he’d given to the young colt Newt. It is so kind that it nearly breaks you.
“Here,” Gaz murmurs, “let’s see something.”
You turn back to him; he takes your hand, and leads you to the back of the stable. The mare follows the two of you with her eyes, expression unchanging as you approach her.
Closer now, she is a stunning creature. You’ve never seen anything like her. Her coat is silvery-gray, with darker patterns all over her body, like ink absorbed into paper and then laid beneath a light rain. Her legs and mane are the same dark color as her muzzle, and there is a deep intelligence in her eyes as she beholds you.
“You might be the first woman she’s ever seen up close,” Gaz says.
He takes up a position behind you, and turns your hand over in his, opening your fingers. Then, slowly, so the horse can see it, he brings them to her face, pressing your fingertips to the soft whorl on her forehead.
The mare’s eyes do not leave you. She exhales a little through relaxed nostrils, chuffing, flicking her ears toward you. You play with the starburst of pale hair, following the direction it grows; her lids, heavy with thick, black lashes, drop a little.
“I’ll be,” Gaz murmurs behind you. “I think she might like you, miss.”
A loud BANG claps against the wall on the other end of the stable, and the mare jerks her head immediately, flinging your hand away. She grunts, snorts, and dances away from the gate, shaking her head, eyes flaring wide.
You and Gaz both look to the commotion—
Your husband stands in the open doorway, cast in a dark silhouette by the late morning light.
“Just what the hell are you doing?”

Eat it or Yeet It
Damien Haasx Reader
Eat or Yeet
As you entered the sound stage to film your first Eat it or Yeet it you couldn't tell if you were more excited or nervous. While you weren't the pickiest eater in the world you did have trouble with some textures and you knew that would be tested today as you sat between Damien and Shayne at the table. Your leg bounced with nervous energy as Courtney handed out bibs for everyone, Damien asking politely but insistently that he get the purple one. You couldn't help but laugh at the joy on his face when Courtney handed it to him before handing you your own bib. Your leg continued to bounce nervously as Courtney started their introduction, Damien put his hand on your knee under the table and your leg calmed, you gave him a small smile that he returned.
“Today on Eat it or Yeet it, it's Easter!” Courtney said and you all gave a little cheer.
“That's right all your Easter favorites have been Eat or Yeet It - afied by our own Garret who is over in the Garret comfort station.” Courtney said.
“We’ve got carrot juice and marshmallow peeps.” Garret said.
“Yikes.” you couldn't help but say and a laugh went up around the table.
“Alright let's get to eating or yeeting!” Courtney yelled.
The first dish that came out looked like deviled eggs though they were brightly colored and sprinkled with something on top. You didn't even try to go for it as Shayne, Damien and Amanda all went for the bell. In the end it was Shayne who got it. As he ate you saw the disappointed look on Garret's face and laughed.
“These are fine.” Shayne said, looking suspiciously at the egg.
“I think they’re meant to be sour.” you told him.
“ That is correct! Shayne you are a freak. Courtney said before reading from her card, “these are sour deviled dyed eggs, hard boiled eggs with whipped yolks, mayo and malic acid.”
“At least you got some protein.” You said to Shayne who had a grossed out look on his face.
As they reset the table you could feel Damien tap your knee encouragingly and when you looked at him he gave you a thumbs up. When Courtney revealed the next dish you went for it, your hand ringing the bell before the others could. It looked like a safe dish, carrots wrapped in what you assumed were bacon or faux bacon and sure carrots weren't your favorite but you weren't opposed to them. Plus with it being the second dish you could just hang back and watch the rest of the table eat and not worry about the big bite.
“Alright here we go 3, 2, 1!” Courtney counted down and you took a big bite of one of the carrots.
As you chewed you tried to dissect the flavor, something mapley perhaps, carrot definitely and was that liquid smoke or just bad smoked bacon, and then you tasted it the unmistakable tart of pineapple.
“Does this have pineapple?” You asked stopping your chewing.
“Uhh,” Courtney looked at their cards, “yes! These are Pineapple and Honey Maple glazed carrots wrapped in faux bacon.”
“Bucket.” you said trying to remain calm as Damien grabbed the yeet bucket for you.
“Get water.” you heard Damien say as your head was in the bucket trying desperately to spit everything out.
You’d been allergic to pineapple your whole life but usually it didn't affect anything as you could easily avoid it, and you always listed it on your allergies just in case. Apparently today it had been overlooked.
You gratefully took the water from Damien whose face no longer held any of the good natured mirth from earlier. You were about to tell him you were alright when you felt the itching start in your throat, you must have swallowed some of it and if your throat was already itching it could get worse soon and that was not something you wanted to happen.
“I need my bag.” you managed to get out and saw Damien jumped out of his seat and take off for the bullpen.
“Are you okay? How can we help? What's happening?” Courtney was kneeling next to you, their hand rubbing soothing circles on your back.
“I’m allergic to pineapple.” you told them and their eyes went wide, their head wiping over to look at Garret who looked panicked.
“Allergic?” Shayne asked just as Damien came rushing back in your bag in his hands.
“What do you need?” Damien asked, putting your open bag on the table.
“Inhaler and benadryl.” you told him before turning to Shayne.
“It's on my paperwork, I thought … who puts pineapple on fake bacon.” you almost cried and Shayne's hand replaced Courtneys rubbing small soothing circles on your back.
As Damien got your inhaler and found the benadryl in your bag you could see Courtney and Garret talking quickly with Spencer, Kiana and a few other people who were shooting you worried glances. You quickly puffed your inhaler and took the benadryl downing all the water you could before focusing on your breathing, making sure air could get into your lungs. As air filled your lungs you relaxed a little, perhaps there was some tightness but the fact that you could take deep breaths was good and meant the worst of it had been avoided.
“You okay?” Damien said quietly from where he was kneeling next to you.
“Yes, thank you for getting my bag. I think I got it before I ate too much.” you told him trying to give him a little smile to show you were okay.
“I’m - I’m okay.” you said louder and everyone turned to you.
“I’m so sorry y/n. I had no idea.” Garret came over to you and you gave him a nod and a small smile.
“I know, it's a weird one.” you told him.
“Alright I think we’re scrapping this, y/n go home and rest.” Ian said from behind Garret and you wondered when he had arrived.
“Come on, we'll get your stuff from your desk and I’ll drive you home.” Damien said and you nodded getting up from the table.
When you reached the sound stage doors though, Damien turned to you “Will you be alright getting to your desk? I want to talk to Ian.”
“Yeah I’m fine, just going to be really tired in about fifteen minutes.” you tried to joke with him but Damien didn't seem to be in the mood.
P.O.V Damien
He watched as y/n walked out of the sound stage and then turned on his heel to confront Ian who was talking with Courtney, Garret, Spencer and a few others.
“Is y/n going to be okay?” Ian asked as Damien approached.
“So they say, that could have been really bad. This isn't a little allergy.” he said seriously.
“But they’re going to be ok?” Ian asked again.
“This is the second time an allergen has appeared on eat it or yeet it. First it was the walnuts which was fine because I didn't get it but now y/n and the pineapple. Who the hell is food safety?” Damiens voice was getting louder and when he felt a hand on his shoulder he turned to see it was Shayne.
“Damiens got a point. We don't even know how serious y/n’s allergy is.” Shayne said his face serious.
“It’s bad. They definitely would have put it on their paperwork.” Damien said.
“Okay, okay we’ll figure this out and we’ll make sure it never happens again.” Ian said, holding his hands up in defeat.
“It better not.” Damien said before turning and walking away Shayne following him.
“Is y/n really alright?” Shayne asked when they were away from everyone.
“They say so but they took two benadryl so they’ll be tired. I’m going to drive them home and maybe just stay so they’re not alone.” Damien said, ripping the purple bib off his neck when he realized he was still wearing it.
“Alright, if you or y/n need anything you know you can call and I’ll help however I can.” Shayne clapped him on the back and Damien nodded.
As Damien walked over to your desk he tried to take some calming breaths. He was beyond angry at the situation but it wasn't your fault and he would hate to take it out on you when you were the one hurt. He couldn't believe this had happened, when it happened the first time with the walnuts in the churros it had been laughed off as lucky that he hadn't dinged the bell but now y/n was hurt by someone's oversight and Damiens instinct was to forge a warpath until he found someone to blame but that wouldn't help you right now so instead he walked to your desk trying to calm down.
You were sitting at your desk, forehead on the cool surface as he approached, he took one final deep breath before kneeling down and putting his hand softly on your back.
“Ready to go?” he asked quietly and you nodded before following him.
As you walked out of the office and made it to the parking lot he grabbed your hand entwining your fingers. He saw out of the corner of his eye as you looked down at your clasped hands then up at him before walking closer to him, hands still entwined. Once at his car he opened the passenger door for you before getting into the drivers side and punching your address into his gps.
“Should we pick anything up on the way?” he asked as he drove.
“No I … I should be good. I’ll just sleep the benadryl off and take it easy tonight. Lots of water and something easy on the stomach later.” you told him.
“Alright, well if you need anything, like … like someone to stay with you … or anything.” he said, his eyes shifting from you to the road and back again.
“You don't have to stay with me Damien, I’m sure you have better things to do. I’m just going to sleep.” you told him.
“What if staying would make me feel better?” he said, not looking at you.
“Oh Damien I didn't mean to worry you so much.” you told him, “I feel like such an idiot, getting the shoot cancelled and having everyone fuss and worry. It's just a small reaction. Really I’ll be okay.”
“Allergies are serious.” Damien said, turning onto your street.
“But - “ you started to say and Damien interrupted you.
“You are not an idiot for stopping the shoot, whoever didn't read the allergy sheet is to blame not you. You provided the information, I know you did and of course we’re all going to worry and fuss. You could have died.” he said.
“Died is a bit dramatic, I have an epipen.” you told him trying to lighten the mood.
“People only have epipens for allergies that can kill them,” he pointed out.
“Yeah but you were so quick with the water and benadryl and my inhaler that it staved off the worst of it. I'm going to be fine Damien, you’ve no need to worry about me.” you told him.
“Worrying is one of the things I’m best at.” he gave you a little smile and you returned it with a small laugh.
“Can I at least walk you to your apartment?” he asked as he parked in your apartment's lot.
You nodded your head and when you both got out of his car Damien held out his hand for yours. You gave it to him automatically before leading him to your apartment door. As you unlocked it, your mind raced for a reason for him to stay just a little longer.
“Do you want something to drink or eat?” you asked as the door opened.
“How about we get you settled and then I can worry about myself.” he smiled at you and you swooned just a bit.
You had a long standing crush on Damien and while the two of you were friends, good friends even, you had never really thought the two of you could be more but with how worried he was about you and the care he was showing you were maybe selfishly at least going to pretend that there could possibly be more. In the morning it would fade away just like the side effects of your allergic reaction but right now you could pretend he felt the same.
He followed you into your apartment taking a look around as you put your bag away and locked your front door.
“Umm so that's the kitchen, I have a brita in the fridge that should be full and you’re free to eat whatever you want. I’m going to go wash my hands and face, and change into something comfortable.” you told him leaving him in the entryway of your small one bedroom.
As you washed your face and hands you examined your face and throat for redness or swelling. You saw a few spots that definitely werent there that morning and there was certainly a puffiness about your appearance that you hoped was only noticeable to you. As you crossed the hallway to your bedroom you listened for Damien but didn't hear anything which you hoped meant he was relaxing on his phone. In your bedroom you pulled out a large tshirt that used to belong to one of your older brothers friends, which you only knew because it was their last name on the back of the shirt, that had somehow come into your possession sometime between high school and moving to LA.
When you appeared back out in the living room it was to find Damien on his phone sitting on the corner of the couch. He immediately looked up when you entered and gave a little smirk at your outfit.
“Your high school?” he asked, pointing to the team logo on the front of the shirt.
“Yeah, go pirates.” you gave a little fist pump and he laughed.
“Didn't have you down as a football player.” he said getting up from the couch.
“Originally not my shirt,” you said, turning around and showing the last name on the back, “belonged to one of my older brothers friends but ended up in my laundry somehow and well … here we are.”
“Not an ex then?” he asked, walking closer to you.
“Oh god no, my brother's friends are like brothers. I've known them all since I was in elementary school, I think the very idea of me and anything romantic would gross them out.” you explained.
“Good to know.” he said quietly and you couldn't tell if you were meant to hear that or not.
“I should get to bed.” you said and Damien seemed to snap back to himself.
“Right, are you sure you don't want me to stay?” he asked again.
“Yes, yes please go about your day. I’ll probably sleep until late, have dinner and sleep some more. Really there is no reason for you to stay. I appreciate it though, you’ve been so kind.” you told him.
“If you insist. Will you at least text me when you wake up so I know you’re alright?” he asked.
“Of course.” you smiled at him.
He hesitated for a minute, seemed to think better of something and made a move to walk toward the door when your hand shot out to touch his chest. He stared at you but you didnt let it distract you from your insane moment of courage as you leaned up on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek, your hand lingering on his chest. His hand came up to clasp the one on his chest as you pulled back.
“Thank you Damien.” you told him and he nodded.
You slipped your hand out from beneath his, he cleared his throat and then made his way out the front door with one more look back at you. You crashed on your bed quickly after Damien left and when you woke up your apartment was dark, the digital clock on your nightstand read 10:02 p.m but you’d promised Damien a text and so you sent one.
y/n: Hey! Sorry just woke up and I realize it's late but I promised to text
Damien: how are you feeling? Need anything?
y/n: I think I’m just gonna have some cereal and relax for a bit before sleeping again. I feel better though. Thanks again for everything today.
Damien: Anytime, seriously
y/n: Allergic reactions at work are not something I want to make a habit of
Damien: Good to know. Think you’ll still be feeling better tomorrow?
y/n: Absolutely
Damien: Want to grab dinner? Just the two of us? Promise no pineapple.
y/n: Absolutely, pick me up at 7?
Damien: It's a date.
You smiled at your phone and kicked your feet in excitement. Maybe having an allergic reaction at work wasn't the worst thing to happen.

Pancakes For Brunch - William Afton/Steve Raglan X Female Reader
Title: Pancakes For Brunch
William Afton/Steve Raglan X Female Reader
Additional Characters: N/A
WC: 1,715
Warnings: Slightly suggestive, nicknames, slight mention of William's past, Post Five Night's At Freddy's movie, very brief mention of death, teasing, banter, and overall huge fluff
You awoke as a pair of lips pressed against the back of your neck, soft facial hair tickling your skin, making you smile sleepily. The bed squeaked a bit as William moved behind you, lifting himself slightly to peer over at you, his gaze roaming lazily up your bare shoulder, and neck, before finally settling on your face. Propped up onto his arm, he raised his hand to brush your hair away from your face, eyes trailing along your beautiful features before he leaned down and pressed a kiss to the space behind your ear. Your heart fluttered as he did so.
"Morning," You muttered, slowly turning to lay on your back, staring up at William as he stared right down at you. A gentle hand rested on your hip, his thumb rubbing circles into your warm skin, which was just barely covered by your pajama shirt - that may or may not have been one of his button-ups.
William continued to stare, admiring you in the early morning light that sprinkled between the curtains, eyes taking in every feature of your face. You smiled sweetly at him, running your fingers lightly through his thick, graying locks; nails scratching at his scalp deliciously. He leaned in for another long, lingering kiss, and after a moment, he pulled back; his lips brushing against yours. His body heat washed over you as his breath mixed with yours. He let out a deep sigh as he finally spoke, "Morning, sweetheart." His voice was gravelly, rough with sleep; it sent shivers down your spine.
Rolling back on his side, William tugged you into him, his arms wrapping around you and bringing your body close to his. You snuggled up under his chin as he laid back against the pillows and tucked his nose in the crook of your neck; inhaling deeply. He breathed in the scent of your shampoo, his fingers idly playing with the ends of your hair as you looped your leg over his waist, laying your head on top of his chest.
The two of you were quiet for a while, listening to the sounds of birdsong outside your window. You shifted slightly, raising your hand to allow your fingers to gently brush across William's bare chest, lightly caressing the scars along his midsection. You still couldn't get over how lucky you were, not only to have William in your life but to have found him alive, withering in pain in that corroding suit. But you didn't want to think or dwell on those thoughts and memories. Instead, you focused on the present, focusing on him, the warmth of his body against yours, the feel of his heartbeat beneath your palm.
"We're not going to get up for a while, are we?" You muttered, pressing your lips to his shoulder. Your voice was muffled from having your face buried in his chest; you were sure he could hear you, but he did not indicate it, simply pulling you closer into his embrace.
"Probably not," William replied, resting his cheek atop your head as he stroked your arm.
You smiled softly, shutting your eyes briefly, "Good." You sighed out, "I don't wanna get up."
You heard William chuckle, his breath ruffling the baby hairs on your forehead and temple. He tightened his grip on you as you relaxed further, "Well then, I'll keep you here all day if that's what you'd like."
"We will have to get up sooner or later," You reminded him, opening your eyes slightly to meet his gaze, "It's almost noon. And we need groceries."
Letting out a sigh through his nose, William spoke, "What do we need?"
Brushing the tips of your fingers through his short beard, you answered, "Milk, ground meat, bacon, carrots - preferably those baby ones, oh- and eggs..." You paused, thinking of other essentials, "... And maybe cereal." You finished.
"Alright," He murmured quietly, "When do you want to go?"
"Not right now, that's for sure," You let your eyes flutter shut, covering your mouth with your hand as you let out a small yawn. "I wanna cuddle some more. It's Saturday, after all." William chuckled, kissing your temple before burying his nose in your hair again. You smiled into his chest, relaxing into his embrace.
~~~
Soft music played through the radio as you stood at the stove, occasionally flipping some pancakes on a pan, humming along; softly swaying your hips to the beat. It was well past noon once you and William got out of bed, where the both of you had spent the remainder of the morning. You had been going back and forth on what to eat for breakfast before you and William both settled on pancakes, strawberries, and orange juice. Well orange juice for you, William took this time to make his coffee.
Flipping the finished pancake on the empty plate, you grabbed the batter and poured the remaining thick liquid into the pan, your smile widening as you felt a pair of arms wrap around your waist. Pressing your back into William's chest, you poked the cooking pancake with your spatula. You hummed happily as he kissed your shoulder before resting his chin on the top of your head.
"How many pancakes do you want, honey?" You asked, flipping the pancake over.
William couldn't get over you. Every time he saw you he felt the same way he did the first time he laid eyes on you - warm, fuzzy inside, and filled with so many feelings, yet completely overwhelmed by them. He couldn't explain it, but he felt drawn to you; there was something about you that drew him to you; call it love, or an obsession, or both. Whatever it was, he could never resist you; every ounce of his being wanted nothing more than to keep you close to him.
"Just one," He replied softly as you turned off the stove and gave William a quick peck on the lips before - reluctantly - moving out of his arms.
You grabbed the two plates, bringing them to the table as William brought your orange juice and his coffee. Eating quietly together, William slid his knife into the pancake, picking it up a piece on his fork before dipping it in the syrup on the side of his plate. Looking up at you, he grinned lightly, raising his fork out towards you. Looking from him to the piece of pancake, and back, you raised an eyebrow. "Say 'ah,'" He said, his eyes glinting as you bit back a teasing smile.
"I have my own pancakes, Will." You said, gesturing to the pile in front of you. As expected, William just tilted his head slightly, gesturing to the slice of pancake on his fork with a short bob of his raised hand.
"Hmm, but I think mine tastes better." He said simply, making you scoot your plate to the side, allowing you to rest your forearms on the table as you leaned forward slightly.
Gazing over at the man you loved, you grinned right back, "Did I add too much love into it?" You asked playfully, only for William's grin to widen a fraction.
"See for yourself." His tone was laced with charm as he held out his fork, the piece of pancake on it coated in maple syrup. You leaned forward slowly, William lifting the piece of food to your mouth, letting it slip past your lips as you took a bite. His eyes watched as you chewed, your eyes closed - a hum escaping you - before you swallowed, opening your eyes and meeting his. Dropping his fork upon his plate, William reached out with his hand, his thumb brushing the sticky syrup from your bottom lip. You watched with bated breath as he brought his thumb to his lips, sucking off the remnants of the syrup; his eyes remaining on you. You licked your bottom lip unconsciously, tasting the syrup and hints of strawberry, watching as his eyes followed. A small smile curled up on his lips before he dropped his hand, leaning back against the chair.
This man was killing you.
Letting out a shaky breath, you sat back in your own chair, chewing on your bottom lip for a second, before speaking, "Yeah, I definitely added a lot more love into yours." You couldn't help but crack a tiny grin at the end before a small silence fell between you. Clasping your hands together, you tilted your head to the side before resting your clasped hands under your chin, "I know what you're doing."
"Oh, really?" William mused as he glanced around the dining room, "And what am I doing, sweetheart?"
"You, Will," You sighed out, unable to stop the smile from growing on your face, "Are trying to get out of grocery shopping."
Feigning innocence, he asked, "And why would I do such a thing?"
You rolled your eyes, shaking your head as you continued to eat, swallowing your food before continuing, "You hate grocery shopping. And you think buttering me up will get you out of it. You're trying to distract me."
"Am I?" William questioned with a smirk, his blue eyes dancing as they met yours; he was greatly amused.
Rolling your eyes again, you pushed away from the table, "Yeah. Yeah, you are. And it’s not going to work this time. I’m craving Fruity Pebbles. Come on, let's finish eating and get going."
Huffing, William stood, picking up his plate. He hated grocery shopping but when it came to spending the day with you, he always went - unless he was able to distract you long enough that you forgot about it all together or just gave up. He just wanted you all to himself, to be perfectly honest.
~~~
“But Clara, the baby isn’t mine!”
Cuddled up into William’s side, you ate your Fruity Pebbles thoughtfully as you watched one of your favorite shows that was playing on the television.
“Do you think the baby’s his?” You asked William, sarcastic, obviously, as you watched the vampire’s baby flying around as a bat.
William tugged you closer into his side, an arm wrapped securely around your waist, as the other was holding your hand in his lap. “Nah…” He grinned, looking down at you briefly with a small, toothy grin. “I doubt it.”

Restaurant Idea: The Nicktoons Diner
I'm sure just about all of you are familiar with The Krabby Patty Kollab Wendy's launched back in October, commemorating of the 25th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants.

I tried for myself on opening day, and I really liked it.
But it did get me thinking about this....
What if there was a restaurant that was themed around not just SpongeBob, but all the Nicktoons in general.
And thus, I created the idea known as.....
THE NICKTOONS DINER!
If the name didn't clue you in already, this restaurant would be a diner, ala Steak n' Shake, Big Boy, and Denny's.
But with a Nickelodeon theming.
Layout is what you would expect from a diner.
There's the dining area with tables, booths, and a counter that you can sit and eat at.
And like any diner, you'll get a decent view of the kitchen.
The diner is also a drive-in, so you can eat in your own car.
Plus they'll actually provide a little disposable table for you to use while eating.
The dining area itself would be sporting a Nickelodeon theming, with orange and green colored chairs and a design of multicolored splats all over the floor.
And on the walls, you'll several pieces of art featuring hundreds of Nicktoon characters, dressed as workers of the diner and depicting them as working at the diner as well!
Now let's for the real meat of this post, the menu!

— CHRISTMAS FEAST AT HOGWARTS
(AKA. SHIFTMAS)
day 7. WHAT’S YOUR DR’S HOLIDAY DINNER LIKE? is it a grand feast with everything from turkey to trifle? a cosy, intimate dinner by candlelight? or something unique, like a themed dinner party or a picnic-style meal by the fire?

˚ ✦ . . ˚ . . ✦ ˚ . ★⋆. ࿐࿔
the magnitude of the Christmas feast at Hogwarts can best be expressed by the fact that first-year students often throw up in their dorms afterwards, since the average witch or wizard is so unaccustomed to having so much food in front of them that they simply must overeat
the Great Hall itself is transformed into a winter wonderland, with floating enchanted snowflakes, towering Christmas trees adorned with golden fairy lights (meaning the actual magical glow of thousands of fairies), and warm hearths crackling with roaring fires, casting a golden glow over the feast:
౨ৎ STARTERS

— ROASTED CHESTNUT SOUP (with a drizzle of spiced cream)
— CRANBERRY and BRIE TARTELETS (with a thyme-infused crust)
— SMOKED SALMON BLINIS (with dill and lemon)
— TRUFFLE-STUFFED ARANCINI (with a garlic aioli dip)
— PUMPKIN PASTIES (with a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg)
— miniature BEEF EMPANADAS (with chimichurri sauce)
— assorted BREAD TOLLS (that steam with various savory scents)
౨ৎ MAIN COURSES

— slow-cooked VENISON (with a red wine and juniper berry reduction)
— HERB-CRUSTED SALMON (with a lemon-butter sauce)
— vegetarian MUSHROOM & CHESTNUT WELLINGTON (wrapped in flaky pastry)
— GARLIC BUTTER LOBSTER TAILS (with a squeeze of enchanted lemon)
— CAULDRON-ROASTED POTATOES (with garlic and rosemary)
— buttered PARSNIPS, CARROTS, and SPROUTS (with chestnuts and bacon)
౨ৎ SIDE DISHES

— CRANBERRY & ORANGE COMPOTE (with enchanted sparkling sugar)
— spiced APPLE & PEAR CHUTNEY
— mediterranean ROASTED VEGETABLE MEDLEY (with balsamic glaze)

Good mornoon! (Morning for me, afternoon for you.) I have recently come into a quantity of marmalade. (It was $3, and the jar has a little handle and a metal lid, I would have paid $3 for just the jar but it comes with bonus marmalade.) I like marmalade on toast occasionally, but I am more of a savory breakfast person, and there are about 8 oz in this jar.
I might do some experiments, but do you have any good recipes for baking with marmalade? Or cooking with it, for that matter? Your baking always looks fantastic and you were the first people I thought of when I was wondering how to find a good recipe or two. Thank you kindly!
My immediate first though was "a great and gloriously sticky marmalade roll" as mentioned in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", as I blogged about some three years ago, here.
Here's a recipe for one.
Since it calls for about twice the amount of marmalade you've got, you could either spend another $3, or halve everything and make a more personal-sized but equally sticky roll.
*****
Now for something savoury.
You didn't specify what kind of marmalade it was, and any will work with both recipes, but Seville / "Old-Fashioned" / "Traditional" types have a slight bitter edge that works really well with savoury stuff.
Here's something my Mum used to do.
Just a mention in passing, another version used small steaks parcelled with onions, mushrooms, smoked bacon, garlic, plenty of black pepper, a teaspoonful of red wine and the same of Worcester sauce.
That recipe did NOT use marmalade. This one does... :->
Put pork chops or chicken breasts on sheets of kitchen foil and season with salt and pepper.
Top them with a mixture of marmalade, Dijon mustard, chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Finish with a knob of butter.
Close the foil into tight parcels and put under the grill (broiler) at medium heat for about 10-15 minutes.
Open one parcel to check with a knife or skewer if the meat is done, and if necessary close the parcel and cook another 5 minutes or so.
Turn the grill right down and leave the parcels there, wrapped, while prepping the plates - green beans, carrots and white rice look and taste good.
Unwrap the parcels, turn the grill right up and get the upper surfaces of the meat dark brown (don't scorch it, burnt marmalade is nasty), then plate up, pour the sauce over and dig in. :->
Instead of individual parcels you could use an oven-to-table dish with a tight cover of foil and, once done, bring the whole thing (with a trivet!) out for people to help themselves.
Hope these two ideas help!

Of Poltergeist and Sweet Treats
There is an intruder in his house.
That, or for some odd reason, his house is currently haunted by a food poltergeist.
Tommy pulled a face at that thought before gently closing his currently stuffed full to the brim fridge and cautiously stepped away from it. He rubbed his face tiredly (he was back from a very gruelling 48-hour shift) and to be honest, wasn’t mentally (and physically) ready to figure out what the hell was going on.
All he wants is to grab his (most likely expired) orange juice so he can drink it before he can crawl into his bed and sleep, damnit!
He deeply sighed again and opened the fridge again and haphazardly grabs one of the loaf, eyeing distrustfully at the neatly typed label (cherry tomato, watermelon radish and rosemary focaccia bread), breathing in the delicious scent of rosemary and fresh bread and couldn’t resist biting into it.
Dear God.
Tommy couldn’t help the moan coming out of his mouth as he enjoyed the crunch of perfectly crust and the sweet and peppery taste of the cherry tomatoes and watermelon radishes baked into it. He had to make himself put down the delicious loaf of bread and pull out another wrapped package, this time a small pot pie (Quiche Lorraine; warm first!!) After following the instructions on the label and warming it using the microwave, bite into it; the delicious combination of buttery pie crust paired with the savoury egg custard, smoky bacon, smoky bacon, nutty Gruyère cheese, and shallots danced across his palate.
After finishing the frankly divine pie, he turned to the fridge and began to catalogue its content, counting 5 different loaves of cake and bread (one banana and walnut cake, one vanilla and raspberry mascarpone loaf cake, one carrot cake loaf, one mixed nut loaf, a whole wheat sourdough loaf), 3 types of scones (a batch of sweet potato scones, half-a-dozen of savoury chorizo and manchego scones peppered with paprika, and a container of mixed berry scones), one very decadent box of chocolate fudge brownie just the way he likes it, 4 different types of soups (butternut squash soup, a savoury broccoli cheddar soup, a very filling savoury potato and leek soup and an oddly familiar-tasting chicken and mushroom soup that he simply couldn’t resist heating up and eat for his brunch) a box of red velvet cupcakes topped, what he can tell from just smelling it, cream cheese and a splash of peppermint and several portioned-for-one pans of lasagnas.
Heck, whomever invaded his house even restocked his fridge and pantry with much needed groceries and even got him a case of that rare pale beer he liked!
Taking a pic of the well-stocked fridge, he texted Lucy and Eddie, two people of the four people who had keys to his place that could be the culprit (Melton was working the same 48 hour shift with him and most likely passed out at his place and Sal was in Philadelphia, vacationing with his in-laws).
Tommy - Right, which one of you gremlins did this?
Biting into the decadent fudge brownie (He may or may not have shivers dancing down his spine while biting into the frankly sinful dessert), he turned to his phone when his phone vibrated, signalling the replies coming through.
Lucy - Brave of you to assume I know how to bake. 😤 😤 Lucy - Damn, are those red velvet cupcakes? Lucy - Share them with me 🤤🤤🤤 Eddie - Dude, I’m not even in LA right now?! Eddie - Didn’t I tell you I’m moving back to El Paso?
Tommy frowned. Eddie’s moved back to Texas? But what about Ev- Buck?
Tommy - You moved? Why didn’t you tell me? I would have sent you off man!
He hesitated before typing again.
Tommy -Why did you leave Buck? Tommy -Is he doing alright? Tommy -Have he moved on? Tommy -If I tell him I’m sorry, will he take me back?
Deleting the texts, he opened his group chat with Evan, and Tommy began texting him. Are you alright?
Staring at the last text message, he rubbed his face and deleted that one as well, instead opting to try one of the red velvet cupcakes.
It was delicious and yet tasted like bitter regret to him.
-----------
Tommy came an hour early for his shift the next day as he, once again, couldn’t sleep. Rubbing his face tiredly (and making a mental note to shave before Captain Pruitt sees him and give him another verbal reprimand on personal hygiene) when Harbor’s latest probie pilot, Nell ‘Twitch’ Andrews, lurched toward him and pushed a basket full of cookies at him before walking off. “Someone left this for you earlier today.” She called out before walking into one of the desks.
Tommy winced before pulling the poor kid away from the table. “Did you get the name of the person who dropped this off?”
“He didn’t say. Just tell me to give it to you and only you.” She rubbed her eyes tiredly.
“Ok, what does he look like? Maybe he’s one of my friends.”
The probie just blinked tiredly at him and gestured vaguely over her head. “About this high? And he has a pretty smile? I,” She yawned tiredly, “didn’t pay attention, sorry.”
“It’s your 4 days off after this right? Go catch some sleep before you hurt yourself.” Tommy grabbed some of the cookies and gave it to her. After making sure she left with her brother, who came to pick her up, Tommy looked into the basket and admired the beautifully decorated christmas themed sugar cookies, the gooey smores cookies with the marshmallow center, chewy looking red velvet cookies and his favourite, decadent looking triple chocolate cookies, all labelled just like the ones at his place but this time each labels had some cheeky christmas cheers and jokes on it.
“What’s that?” Melton and Lucy appeared out of nowhere, followed by fellow Aeromedical pilot Miriam Kareem and her co-pilot Zack Black, surrounding him and his bounty.
“Cookies!!” Miriam made grabby motion toward the basket and pouted when Tommy simply held the basket over her head.
“Come on, you can’t finish all of them by yourself. And you already have all that snacks in your fridge. Where’s my cupcakes anyways?” Lucy groused.
“Snack? Cupcakes? And you weren’t gonna share?” Everyone began complaining loudly, especially when Captain Pruitt came over, attracted by the noise. A brief scuffle then ensued where Tommy escaped the horde with less than half of the cookies intact. He immediately hid in his favorite secret nook (the fire escape on the second floor that overlooks over the entire airfield) and ate most of them, while scrolling through his social media, lingering over old photos he took with Evan and their text messages, typing and deleting every single sentence he typed in the chat.
---------
Buck didn’t plan for this to happen at first.
It was by coincidence that he was even in the same place as Tommy that night.
Buck had run out of flour (again) and instead of doing the sane thing and sleep, he decided to do a midnight run to the store.
There he was, at the baking aisle, trying to figure out if he should buy the whole grain flour and make mini pizzas to bring in for work tomorrow when he saw Tommy blearily staring at the colorful cereal boxes in front of him.
Taking in his unkempt look, the unshaved beard and the dark circle under his still beautiful blue eyes, Buck’s first thought was who was taking care of him now?
His second thought, what the fuck, I’m still mad at him.
His third and fourth thoughts were fretful. Is he sleeping well? He looks so thin; is he skipping meals?
So yes, he wasn’t proud of what he did next but staring into Tommy’s empty fridge with the expired carton of orange juice when he came by to put some prepped meals and snacks he made for him, he knew he was doing the right thing.
After restocking the fridge with more homemade soups and some chicken and leek pies for Tommy to enjoy after his shift, Buck wandered around the house, sighing when he saw the loads of dirty laundry waiting to be cleaned in the laundry room.
Tommy really did hate doing laundry.
He quickly separates the clothes according to color and starts the wash before going to Tommy’s bedroom and sinking into his bed, breathing in the scent of cedar and rosewood.
He know what he’s doing is wrong and creepy as fuck but someone needs to take care of the man since clearly he had been neglecting himself for the past month! ( Serve him right for breaking up with him, hmph! )
Buck rolled out of bed and began to change the sheets so Tommy can sleep easily after his shift, making sure the pillows are fluffed just the way Tommy liked it, remembering the times Tommy did the same for him.
Damn, he missed having Tommy doting on him and him doting on the stupid dork.
After cleaning up the rest of the house and folding the laundry away, Buck left the house the same way he came in (through the kitchen door and the backyard; Tommy forgot he told Buck where he kept his spare kitchen door keys, the very same way Tommy forgot they synced their google calendar months ago hence how Buck knew his schedule), taking with him one of Tommy’s LAFD hoodies.
What? He deserved some treats too!
Plus he missed sleeping in Tommy’s clothes, surrounded by his scent.
Tommy stumbled into his place, yawning. Thankfully the 24 hour shift was a Q-word shift and he ended up burning up the sugar rush by being a menace with his clipboard, running maintenance on all the helicopters in the hangar.
(Lucy may have sneakily taken a picture of him and sent it to Eddie, who blanched all the way from El Paso, Dear God, there’s two of them! Did Buck infect Tommy with his clipboard persona? Is Chris next? They did spend a lot of time together while Chris was growing up. Eddie thought, looking suspiciously at his son, who looked weirdly at his father.)
----------
Tommy entered his house and tiredly dropped his bag onto the floor. Taking in the afternoon sunlight bathing the living room, he noticed a hoodie hanging over his couch.
Ah, his intruder was here again.
As he passed the couch with his bag of dirty clothes, he swiped the familiar looking hoodie with him as he made his way to the laundry room.
As much as he wanted to ignore the pile of dirty clothes and sleep the shift off, he knew he needed to get a head start on it or end up regretting it. So it was to his surprise when he saw the empty baskets and the neatly folded towels on top of his dryer. He immediately ran to his closet and there it was, his freshly laundered clothes hung neatly, separated by colors and types.
Hmm…
He then turned to his bed and to his surprised pleasure, the bed sheets were changed. He couldn’t resist and sank into the freshly made bed and dragged the hoodie close to his face, hugging it tightly as he breathed in the familiar faint smoke, musk and mint scent.
“Evan, why are you being too nice to me?” He groaned, falling asleep surrounded by his ex’s scent.

Pesach Recipes: New for 2025
Once again it's time for a new round of additions to my tumblr collection of Pesach recipes! What have we got this year?
(Click through for: Velvety Mushroom Soup, Lox-Avocado Salad, Ground Beef Pie with Matzah Crust, Chicken with Tomatoes and Beef Bacon, Carrot Kugel, and Dairy-Free Chocolate Mousse.)
Velvety Mushroom Soup (adapted from here)
Ingredients
6 tablespoon butter, margarine, schmaltz, or olive oil
2 tablespoon fresh sage chopped
1 lb mushrooms sliced
4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
Salt and pepper to taste
½ cup heavy cream or full-fat coconut milk
Directions
In a large pot, heat butter over medium heat until it begins to brown and turns fragrant, 3 to 4 minutes. (If not using butter, just heat fat of choice.)
Add sage and cook one minute.
Add mushrooms and stir to coat, then saute until mushrooms are tender and lightly browned, 4 to 5 minutes.
Stir in stock and bring to a simmer. Cook 4 to 5 minutes more.
Transfer to food processor or blender (in batches, if your processor is not large enough). Blend until very smooth. Pass through a sieve if desired.
Return to pot and stir in cream. Serve immediately.

Lox-Avocado Salad ("Lox & Friends") Serves 4 to 5 people as an appetizer.
Ingredients:
3 to 4 ounces of lox or smoked salmon
1 large or 2 small avocado, very ripe
Lemon juice
Tomato paste
Directions:
Finely chop the lox – not minced, but until each piece is not much bigger than a lentil. Set aside.
Finely chop or mash the avocado. Stir with a drizzle of lemon juice to keep the avocado from turning brown. Set aside.
To serve molded: Line a small ramekin or deep sauce dish with plastic wrap to serve as a mold. Spread a thin layer of tomato paste on the bottom of the dish. Press a layer of chopped lox onto the tomato paste, then a layer of avocado over the lox. Invert a salad plate on top of the dish and quickly overturn the entire assemblage, then carefully lift off the ramekin and leave the plastic wrap in place to cover the molded serving. Repeat for each serving.
To serve unmolded: For each serving, scoop a generous spoonful of avocado onto a salad plate or into a cocktail dish. Carefully press a layer of chopped lox onto the avocado, then spread a thin layer of tomato paste on top.
Serve alone or with crackers/matzah.

Ground Beef Pie with Matzah Crust
Ingredients:
1 medium-large vidalia onion, chopped
1 spoonful minced garlic
2 stalks celery, chopped
1 small carrot, peeled and chopped fine
1 small zucchini or yellow squash, chopped (optional)
1 small bunch baby bok choy, chopped fine (optional)
8 to 10 oz. fresh mushrooms, chopped
1.5 to 2 pounds ground beef, or beef and chicken mixed
black pepper, fresh thyme and/or rosemary, dried sage, dried savory, coriander, sweet paprika, smoked paprika to taste
3 to 4 sheets matzah, or more as needed
Olive oil, schmaltz, and/or margarine for frying and for greasing pan
Directions:
In a large skillet, heat cooking oil/s of choice. Cook onion over alternating high heat and low heat until deep golden and beginning to brown. Add garlic and cook a little longer, then pour off into large mixing bowl. Cook celery until deep green and fragrant, then return onions to skillet and cook a little longer before pouring off again. Repeat these steps with zucchini, bok choy, and mushrooms, before pouring all off into the mixing bowl.
Add ground beef to skillet and cook, stirring and breaking up with spatula or spoon to keep it from clumping. Season with spices of choice and continue until meat is cooked through. If skillet is large enough, return vegetables to skillet and combine with ground beef over heat; if not, pour off ground beef into mixing bowl and stir together there.
Dip the matzah into warm water and cover loosely with damp paper towels. Let sit for a few minutes until softened. Grease a deep baking dish.
Gently press the softened matzah into the baking dish, making a single layer (overlapping as necessary). Spoon the meat and vegetables into the dish until full. Add another layer of softened matzah over the top, and brush with more oil of choice; if desired, garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes, or until top crust is crispy. Serve hot.
Cottage pie variation: If preferred, omit the matzah and instead prepare enough mashed potatoes to make a single layer over the top of the baking dish. Grease the baking dish, spoon the meat and vegetables in, press the mashed potatoes into a top layer, and brush or spray with oil of choice; if desired, garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme. Bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until mashed potato layer is slightly browned. Serve hot.

Sheet-Pan Chicken With Tomatoes and Beef Bacon (adapted from here)
Ingredients
1 chicken in parts or 1½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
½ teaspoon kosher salt, plus more as needed
9 whole unpeeled garlic cloves
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1½ tablespoons fresh lemon juice, plus more for serving
2 teaspoons sweet paprika
1-2 teaspoons smoked paprika
1 teaspoon fresh thyme
½ teaspoon dried parsley
1 tablespoon brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground coriander, or to taste
scant ¼ teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste
1 pint cherry tomatoes (preferably different colors), halved
4 ounces diced beef bacon
¼ cup (or more) chopped basil, parsley, and/or other fresh herbs, for serving
Freshly ground black pepper
Directions
Heat oven to 425 degrees.
Season chicken all over with salt, and place on a rimmed baking sheet.
Smash all the garlic cloves with the side of a knife and peel them. Finely grate or mince one garlic clove and put it in a small bowl. Stir in the 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1½ tablespoons lemon juice, brown sugar and spices. Pour over chicken, tossing to coat.
Add tomatoes and remaining smashed, peeled garlic cloves to baking sheet, spreading them out around the chicken. Season tomatoes lightly with salt and drizzle with a little more olive oil. Scatter beef bacon on top.
Roast until chicken is golden and cooked through, about 30 to 35 minutes. After 15 minutes, stir the tomatoes and beef bacon, but don’t disturb the chicken.
Transfer chicken to plates. Stir the tomatoes and beef bacon around in the pan, scraping up all the delicious browned bits from the bottom and sides, and stir in the herbs and black pepper to taste. Taste and add salt, if needed, and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, if you like. Spoon tomatoes, garlic and beef bacon over the chicken to serve.

Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish, and spoon carrot mixture in. Smooth out and sprinkle additional cinnamon over the top, if desired.
Bake at 350°F for 1 hour, until browned around the edges and solid in the center.
Serve warm out of the oven, or allow to cool, then refrigerate overnight and serve cold.

10-12 oz. bittersweet chocolate chips (sugar-free if desired)
2-3 tbsp. hot water
1 tbsp. cocoa powder
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
6-8 jumbo eggs, whites and yolks separated

Add the egg yolks to the chocolate, one or two at a time, mixing well after each one.
In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, then add the sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Add the chocolate and mix well; the mixture will be liquidy.
Pour into serving bowl or into individual cups and refrigerate until set. Serve cold. (Optional: spoon over sliced oranges, fresh berries, and/or sliced bananas.)
