National Ranch Day
Usually a sidekick for a variety of other foods, National Ranch Day brings that delightful flavor of this delicious dressing to the forefront of attention. No longer a condiment or an afterthought, ranch dressing is definitely the special guest star of the day!
History of National Ranch Day
The story of ranch dressing dates back several decades, to the late 1940s. In fact, the claim to the first creation of this strictly American condiment goes to a man named Steve Henson who originally thought of the concoction of buttermilk and herbs when he was working in Alaska.
After moving to California and purchasing the Hidden Valley dude ranch in California, Henson started serving and selling his salad dressing commercially. The company grew through mail-order and started to become very popular throughout the United States.
Ranch style dressing was originally sold as dry packets of herbs and spices that were meant to be mixed with milk and mayonnaise. Today, it can still be found in this powdered style, which is particularly easy for travel, or it can be purchased in bottles that are pre-mixed and ready to eat.
Now, one of the most popular salad dressings and condiments that is sold in the United States. Beyond just pouring it on top of salads, ranch dressing has some other versatile serving options that can’t be beat!
National Ranch Day is here to show appreciation for and pay attention to the deliciousness of ranch dressing.
How to Celebrate National Ranch Day
Take a break from boring and enjoy National Ranch Day with lots of fun and different ways to celebrate. Get started with some of these ideas:
Enjoy Ranch Dressing
One of the best things that can be done in honor of National Ranch Day is to include it in any and every meal and snack eaten on this day! Of course, ranch dressing can be poured on top of a delicious and nutritious salad, but there are other ways to eat it also.
Make it up into a delicious dip for veggies like carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and celery. Or use it for dipping items like chicken nuggets or fish sticks. Other ideas for eating ranch might include drizzling it on top of tasty pizza or a pile of french fries. Some people like to put ranch dressing on corn on the cob, or even on top of chili. Of course, it is delicious with buffalo wings!
Whatever way is preferred, this is definitely the day for getting creative with ranch dressing.
Hold a Ranch Dressing Taste Test
National Ranch Dressing Day is a great time to have fun checking out which ranch dressing is the best one of all. It might be fun to host a ranch dressing taste test in the breakroom at work or just in the kitchen at home. Have coworkers or friends participate in a blind taste test, have each person vote on which one is best, and then name the winning brand as the reigning champion!

National Tartar Sauce Day
French fries with ketchup. Chicken wings with barbecue sauce. And fish with tartar sauce. These pairings of food with sauces are classics that just about anyone will love. And today is the day to celebrate the sauce.
Specifically, it’s National Tartar Sauce Day! So get ready to grab some seafood and pile on the tartar sauce!
History of National Tartar Sauce Day
While National Tartar Sauce Day is a fairly recent celebration, it has roots that go back to approximately 1400 years ago. When Pope St. Gregory declared that people should abstain from eating meat on Fridays, the people started eating fish, instead, since it wasn’t considered to be flesh. The significance of Friday is that the Christian tradition believes that Jesus Christ died on a Friday.
In the 1960s, the rules changed a bit and many people of the Catholic tradition began abstaining from meat on Fridays only during the Lenten season. Lent is the period of time that falls 40 days (not counting Sundays) prior to Easter. Many people still continue this tradition of eating fish on Fridays during Lent.
And of course, with the tradition of eating fish regularly often comes the delicious addition of tartar sauce!
National Tartar Sauce Day was founded in 2017 by Frisch’s Big Boy, a chain of classic restaurants in the American Midwest. The restaurant established the day in celebration of the sauce that pairs so well with fish, which is eaten in larger quantities during this time of year.
In fact, National Tartar Sauce Day is a rolling holiday that follows the religious calendar and always falls on the first Friday of Lent, either in late February or early March. So get ready to enjoy some seafood because it’s time to celebrate National Tartar Sauce Day!
How to Celebrate National Tartar Sauce Day
Get involved with celebrating National Tartar Sauce Day with some of these fun ideas:
Order Up Some Fish with Tartar Sauce
Of course, the best way to pay heed to National Tartar Sauce Day is to enjoy some with a serving of fish. Head out to a restaurant that serves seafood, like Frisch’s Big Boy, for instance, and order up a plate of fish with tartar sauce. Even McDonald’s serves its Filet-O-Fish sandwich with a portion of tartar sauce on the bun!
Try Making Tartar Sauce at Home
Those who are feeding a family or who just prefer to eat at home might want to have their own fish fry on National Tartar Sauce Day! And what is the best thing to serve with that fish? Well, it’s the sauce, of course!
Making tartar sauce at home actually isn’t very difficult at all and only requires a few ingredients. The main base is mayonnaise with a few other ingredients, like mustard, sweet pickle relish and lemon juice. For additional flavor, some people might prefer to add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper, black pepper or capers.
Pile the tartar sauce high on the plates, right next to the fish, and watch the family dig in!

International Beer and Pizza Day
It would be hard to find something that makes a day as glorious as finishing it off with that perfect combination of beer and pizza. The foamy head on top of a glass of amber-colored joy seems to be tailor-made to go with the rich and cheesy texture of that favorite of treats, pizza.
It is a little wonder that these two go together so well, with the salty savory buttery crust of the pizza that is reminiscent of that other favorite bar treat, the pretzel.
International Beer and Pizza Day reminds everyone to take a moment to indulge in this delightful combo, and remember the good things in life!
History of International Beer and Pizza Day
The history of International Beer and Pizza Day is the history of two amazing substances that traveled the long and winding roads of culinary antiquity to ultimately come together on tables and in hearts. Beer is the oldest alcoholic beverage known to man and has occupied an important part of the culinary past as both a liquid food source as well as a semi-safe way of imbibing water.
After all, with all the diseases that occupied the water in the past, and with no knowledge of where those illnesses came from, it’s hardly surprising that beer was considered one of the safest drinks around! The Ancient Egyptians included beer in every level of their food chain, and it was a favorite drink of the slaves building the pyramids as it gave them the calories and protein needed to make it through the hard workdays.
Pizza, on the other hand, heralds back to 997 AD in Gaeta, Italy, though of course, it didn’t have any tomato sauce on it in the beginning. Tomatoes didn’t come to Europe until the discovery of the New World, and when Italians discovered tomatoes they pretty much never looked back! The first place tomatoes went when found? Their favored food, Pizza!
Finally, after thousands of years, these two amazing things came together to be celebrated in International Beer and Pizza Day!
Not that long ago, back in 2016, International Beer and Pizza Day came into existence when it was the brainchild of a website designer, Nick Saulino. Saulino, a lover of pints and slices, decided that the combination deserved a day of its own, so he advocated for International Beer and Pizza Day to be born!
How to Celebrate International Beer and Pizza Day
It’s not hard to get creative with a variety of ways to celebrate International Beer and Pizza Day! Try these ideas on for size, or come up with some other fun ways to enjoy the day:
Enjoy Beer and Pizza Together
Well, folks, those people who have to be encouraged or cajoled to head down to their favorite pizza parlor and get a slice and a frothy glass of beer may not be the people that this day was made for! Pizza is amazing and comes in a huge variety of flavors.
Grab some friends and head over to a tasty pizza place and get ready to have some fun! Some places even have specialty beers that they specifically recommend to pair with pizza. Experts suggest that veggie pizzas might be more happily paired with pale ales or Pilsners, while a meatier pizza could be better enjoyed with something darker like a stout or a porter.
But no matter what, just be sure to get a slice of any kind and a pint–and get on with enjoying the day!
Try Making Homemade Pizza
Sure, some people might want to celebrate by going out for pizza and beer. But for a real culinary experience, try making pizza at home to enjoy with a favorite beer! Making the crust from scratch is easy, with just four, yeast, warm water, and perhaps a bit of sugar. (Or, for those who don’t want to make their own, refrigerated pizza crust is a quick and fast solution.)
Add some spiced tomato sauce, delightful toppings such as meats and veggies, as well as a pile of cheese, and then bake it until it is a delicious golden brown. This is a great way to make up a pizza exactly to the preferences and specifications of everyone in the family!
Try Making Handcrafted Beer
A little bit of a slower process than making pizza, home brewing beer is another option that could be tried in celebration of International Beer and Pizza Day!
Homebrewing a batch of beer requires a little bit of equipment, such as a pot, a bucket, an airlock fermentation bucket, a hydrometer, thermometer, a syphon and a few other smaller items. For those who want to get started easily, brewing kits are available online and they’ll come with everything that’s needed.
Brewing the beer requires a few different steps such as steeping the grains, malting, adding hops, mashing, creating wort, and chilling. Then, once the brewing process is complete, the fermentation process will last for a couple of weeks. After this, bottling takes place. Wait a couple more weeks to let the beer carbonate and then this delicious hand-crafted beer is ready to drink!
Try Pizza Beer
Believe it or not, there’s even a bottled version of this holiday, it’s called Pizza Beer and it almost has to be as amazing as the label suggests! The flavor of this beer is strong on oregano and basil, and the scent is those plus garlic and tomato as well.

Green Peppers Day
Green peppers, known as green bell peppers or green sweet peppers, have their day today. There are other colors of bell peppers, like red, yellow, and orange, but just the green are celebrated today. Although considered vegetables in the culinary world, they actually are fruit. They are part of the Grossum cultivar group of the Capsicum annuum species, which are part of the Solanaceae family, or nightshades. Native to the tropics of the Americas, they were introduced to Europe and Asia by Spanish and Portoguese explorers in the late fifteenth century. They spread from there and are now grown around the world.
Green peppers have dark, glossy skin that is smooth and firm. They are juicy and crisp to the bite, and mildly bitter, not as sweet in flavor as other bell peppers. But, along with other bell peppers, they are not hot like other peppers: they don't have capsaicin and are the lowest pepper on the Scoville scale. Their flesh is thick, and besides the membrane and seeds, their interior is hollow. Green peppers are high in vitamin C. They contain carotenoids, a colorful antioxidant, and are a very good source of vitamin A, vitamin K, vitamin B6, potassium, manganese, folic acid, and fiber. They have no fat and are low in calories.
Green peppers have a mild flavor and are versatile in the kitchen. They can be eaten raw or cooked. When raw, they can be cut up and eaten with a veggie dip or hummus, top a salad or sandwich, or be used to make pico de gallo or salsa. When cooked, the possibilities of their use are almost endless. They can be baked, roasted, grilled, and prepared in other ways and used in many dishes. Stuffed peppers and pepper steak are common pepper dishes. They are used in casseroles, put on pizzas, sautéed with sausage, to make stir fry, or roasted and put over pasta. Along with celery and onions, green peppers are part of the holy trinity, a variation of the French mirepoix that is used in Cajun and Creole cooking. It is used as a base for gumbos, soups, stews, jambalaya and crawfish étouffée. Mmm, Green Peppers Day sounds tasty!
How to Observe Green Peppers Day
Celebrate by eating green peppers! There are many ways  you could do so:
Cut them up and have them raw, perhaps with veggie dip or hummus.
Put them on top of a salad or sandwich.
Have some tortilla chips and pico de gallo.
Make pepper steak, sautée green peppers with sausage, or make another stir fry with green peppers.
Make a homemade pizza and cover it with green peppers.
Make a roasted pepper pasta dish.
Make stuffed peppers, stuffed pepper soup, or stuffed pepper casserole.
You could also grow your own green peppers so you'll have more to eat in the future!

National Sausage Pizza Day
Happiness is… pizza with sausage.
Do you have a favorite kind of pizza? Would that kind happen to be full of the robust, well-seasoned flavor of sausage? If not have you sought psychiatric help? Sausage Pizza Day reminds us that while Pepperoni may be considered the King of Pizzas, it’s Sausage Pizza that’s its Queen. Sausage Pizza is the second most popular pizza in the world, and with so many variations on sausage, there’s an endless number of types you can enjoy. Sausage Pizza Day is your opportunity to challenge your idea of Sausage Pizza and try multiple types of your pizza!
History of Sausage Pizza Day
We get it, everyone likes pepperoni, but did you know that sausage is nearly as popular on pizza as it’s cousin pepperoni. While most places that serve sausage pizza use classic Italian sausage, that’s a discredit to the incredible variety you can get out of this incredible meat treat. There are as many types of sausage as you can imagine, including beef sausage, chicken sausage, and of course the classic pork sausage. Each of these can be made with apples, fennel, cheese, garlic, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and a myriad of other ingredients that can change a simple sausage to a delicious extravaganza.
Sausage on pizza is nearly as old as the pizza itself and has been a common ingredient in this flatbread based treat for centuries. If the only sausage that you’ve ever had on your pizza is the classic Italian Sausage, it’s time to expand your palate. Head on down to your local butcher or deli department and ask them what they’d suggest using on a pizza, and turn them away from the Italian, you’re trying to get creative here.
How to Celebrate Sausage Pizza Day
Sausage Pizza Day is a great opportunity to break free of old traditions and discover something new. Everyone has their favorite kind of sausage, and all of them can be used to top a pizza. One of our favorites for a sweet sausage pizza is Apple Chicken Sausage, and it lends a sweet flavor to the dish while still providing a tangy taste.
Looking for something cheesy and zesty? Some call it sacrilege, but we also happen to enjoy putting Cheddarwursts on our Sausage Pizza. You need to cut it thin and layer cheese around it to get the best effect (what can we say, we like cheese), but you won’t regret it. What variation will you come up with for Sausage Pizza Day?
