Look at this beautiful project in Japan to design new Kimono models inspired by traditional Palestinian clothes! 🇵🇸
Some of the project's creations were displayed at a charity bazaar in Tokyo and the founder has been very vocal about Palestine, sharing posts in support with fundraising 🇵🇸
This is a very worthy group project, of communion of ideas, talent and cultures. Some kimono collars were embroidered by refugee woman in Ramallah, West Bank.
Check the official page where they sell the costumes and even the embroidery if you want to show support: https://www.facebook.com/100057255738695/posts/pfbid02zweY1AM5n1EciiLSTga6QKo8trE2PgZMaLLHqEJWKSeAMGqtxRMNjKU7FYLV8eLHl/

Take two of trying to post this
.
So in my Royal Court AU I have the Royal Council
A bit of world building because I need the government fleshed out more
However I imagine more of something like how Babylonian War Rooms are presented in media
So there will be factions/houses that governor over sections of Ninjago
When in council or presenting themselves to the public they wear traditional garments of different Asian cultures
No one is above one another with the exceptions of the The Emperor and Empress and the Descendants of the First Spinjitzu Master
I'm not really sure what cultures to assign to which governors but the show does represent the Emperor and Empress and the Fsm's family in their cultures already
The Emperor and Empress are over everyone and are the deciding factors over most matters
Based on their makeup and clothes they will be represented by Chinese culture and will wear hanfus
The FSM's family is council for anything regarding prophecies and magic since typically they are already entangled in it
They clearly follow a lot of Japanese culture and will wear kimonos
Again I'm not really sure past that but I know it will be mainly East Asian cultures since that's where the show is primarily based but I'm not opposed to adding in other Asain cultures in

Lunar New Year marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar. The holiday is known by different names in different countries. For example, in China it is called Chūn Jié, in Vietnam it is Tết, in Korea it is Seollal and in Tibet it is Losar, just to list some of them. Feel free to mention others in the comments.
To call to it Lunar New Year means it’s inclusive to all who celebrate, as opposed to using the blanket term Chinese New Year. To use the latter implies that the holiday is exclusive to China and the Chinese people.
By casually calling this day “Chinese New Year,” we are forgetting the many other East and Southeast Asian cultures that celebrate the beginning of the lunar calendar. The erasure of those other Asian cultures who celebrate this holiday is important to consider.
It’s indicative of the much repeated pattern of a diverse and multicultural society trying to group seemingly similar cultures together. This speaks to the ways in which Asian people and our culture are often treated as a monolith and experience many generalisations and ste reotypes. I think it’s important for us to be recognised for our differences rather than being endlessly grouped together under the umbrella of “Asians” or “Chinese.”
To this end, I personally feel Lunar New Year is the most inclusive phrase to use (unless you’re certain of one’s cultural background and may therefore decide to be more specific). I still have my moments where I have to correct myself and refer to it as Lunar New Year. Language is important. Making this small change and correcting ourselves is a small step in helping to make people feel included, seen and respected.

TV Shows 101: The Amazing Story of Avatar The Last Airbender
I rate Avatar: The Last Airbender as probably one of the greatest mystic, martial art animations that appeals to both children & adults. The notion that some can master the 4 elements in whole or part is not new considering that we have heard the same in the ancient world. my funny controversial veilguard opinion is that while i get why people are saying the 'sexy lof' armor is orientalist and i do think there's a convo to be had there... that armor is also based off of actual clothes people historically wore in southeast asia. like this
is absolutely based off of these
and while these are stylised forms of the outfit it's not because of the skin being shown. the women wearing shirts underneath are not wearing it as thai people wore tabengman historically. because historically we didn't really wear a lot of shirts, shirts were not legally mandated clothes until the 1940s. my thai grandmother is older than that. in fact a lot of asia didn't get around to stigmatizing and sexualizing breasts until the 1800s or later (like you can find photos of korean women in the 1900s with their breasts out and that was fine and normal culturally). the reason these are stylized though is bc they're made of silk and they're wearing brocades. most people would've worn this in plain fabric without gold brocades bc silk and gold are expensive.
and, to be clear, a lot of both the LoF and qunari armors and fashion is based off of historical southeast asian fashion. isabella is straight up wearing a hmong necklace.
the qunari ropes are also almost certainly based off of muay boran kard chuek which is this old way of binding your hands with hemp ropes in thailand for boxing. you can also see that in qunari concept art they've drawn them with intricate knots that are very chinese in origin, they're wearing armor in rattans weaved patterns. (i'll also point out that it was explicitly said in the past that people from east tevinter, which is closer to seheron, look like dorian, and dorian's va is half indo-fijian and half malay. that man belongs to the south pacific.)
and yes, we could have a whole conversation about specifically choosing to look at these armors instead of other southeast asian armors. but i think a lot of people think the armor is based off of western fantasies of belly dancer costumes... which while may have played a part, it's also very clear to me that the devs have used a lot of southeast asian inspiration for seheron, rivain, and part of tevinter.

A list of household things which MANY ethnicities seem to think are specific to their culture:
a) a plastic bag stuffed full of other plastic bags
b) cultural/religious knickknacks which your grandparents will scream at you for touching
c) a set of items that are specifically for Company (often the relatives your parents feel the need to impress and/or secretly despise)
d) a very loud woman
e) a butter cookie tin full of sewing supplies
f) mass Tupperware collections and/or ice cream and yogurt containers filled with surprise cold vegetables in the fridge
g) relatives overly involved in the physical appearances, profesional, and reproductive lives of the young women in the family
h) arguing
anyway I think the really interesting cultural identifier is what b) and c) are, because those are a little more specific even if the impulses behind them are not
#Culture#one that feels semi universal to me as an Asian with a bunch of scandi and middle eastern friends is#You take off your shoes by the door#And that leads to all kinds of things with shoe racks or slippers or the family party with forty identical pairs of kids slippers at the do#Or

nahh, look i don’t want people erasing characters ethnicities (although atla makes them loosely based on certain cultures). rather make new characters omashu and probably some of the region surrounding it is desi, the desert tribes are landscape wise based on mongolia (other countries do have deserts but i’m guessing it’s based on mongolia & culture wise on central asian countries. ember island is based on the Philippines
(idk their exact cultures but they’re still present, so do with that info what you want)
i mean you can even hc certain regions and islands based off other ethnicities (primarily asian ones). i just think changing a character’s ethnicity is kinda weird imo
desi korean zutara yessss 🙏 someone please make this a thing
