Foods to Eat and Avoid With Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints. This inflammation can lead to pain, stiffness, and swelling. There is no cure for RA, but there are things you can do to manage your symptoms. One of the most important things you can do is eat a healthy diet.
There are some foods that can help to reduce inflammation and improve your joint health. These foods include:
Fruits and vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants and other nutrients that can help to reduce inflammation. Some good choices include berries, leafy greens, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
Whole grains: Whole grains are a good source of fiber, which can help to regulate digestion and reduce joint pain. Some good choices include brown rice, quinoa, and oats.
Lean protein: Lean protein is an important part of any healthy diet, and it can also be helpful for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Some good choices include fish, chicken, and beans.
Healthy fats: Healthy fats, such as omega-3 fatty acids, can help to reduce inflammation and improve joint health. Some good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include fatty fish, such as salmon, tuna, and sardines, as well as walnuts and flaxseeds.
There are also some foods that you should avoid if you have RA. These foods include:
Processed foods: Processed foods are often high in unhealthy fats, sugar, and salt, which can all contribute to inflammation. Some good examples of processed foods to avoid include chips, cookies, and sugary drinks.
Red meat: Red meat is high in saturated fat, which can contribute to inflammation. If you do eat red meat, choose lean cuts and cook them in healthy ways, such as grilling or baking.
Dairy products: Dairy products such as eggs, curd or milk can be inflammatory for some people. If you find that dairy products trigger your arthritis symptoms, it's best to avoid them.
Nightshade vegetables: Nightshade vegetables, such as tomatoes, potatoes, and eggplant, contain a compound called solanine, which can be inflammatory for some people. If you find that nightshade vegetables trigger your arthritis symptoms, it's best to avoid them.
Here are some Ayurvedic Ingredients and Food that may be helpful for people with RA:
Ginger: Ginger has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. It can be taken as a supplement or added to food.
Turmeric: Turmeric is another spice with anti-inflammatory properties. It can be taken as a joint pain supplement or added to food.
Amla: Amla is a type of berry that is rich in vitamin C and other antioxidants. It is believed to help boost the immune system and reduce inflammation.
Khichdi: Khichdi is a type of rice dish that is made with lentils and vegetables. It is a light and easy-to-digest meal that is considered to be beneficial for people with RA.
Dal: Dal is a type of lentil that is a good source of protein and fiber. It is also a good source of iron, which is important for people with RA.
Some additional tips for eating a healthy diet for RA:
Cook at home more often: This will give you more control over the ingredients in your food.
Read food labels carefully: Pay attention to the amount of saturated fat, sugar, and salt in the foods you eat.
Make small changes: If you make too many changes at once, you are more likely to give up. Start by making small changes to your diet and gradually add more healthy foods as you go.
Find a support system: Having people to support you can make it easier to stick to a healthy diet. Talk to your friends and family about your goals, and find someone who can help you stay on track.
In Conclusion, It is important to note that everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you are not sure what foods are best for you, it is a good idea to talk to your doctor or a registered dietitian.

‼️ content warning for talking about (necessary, healthy) food restrictions ‼️
Please don’t be rude about somebody’s dietary restrictions.
Sometimes people don’t even notice it in the little comments about how gross vegan food is, how bad for you dairy-free milks are, how everything gluten-free tastes like cardboard…people don’t choose their food intolerances!!!!
I have to use a lot of substitutes for MEDICAL REASONS, and I’ve had people tell me to my face how gross that is. Vegan cheese tastes like glue. Oh, you have to try a gluten free diet? That’s so trendy now, but really you don’t have to. The food is so bland.
I do have to, actually. It’s discouraging to hear how inferior your food is when there’s no other option!!!!! Please try to be considerate of people’s non-negotiable needs.
Also don’t be mean to people who do choose their own dietary specifications, that should go without saying. Be considerate and respectful of what people have to eat!!!
With love, if nobody is practicing unsafe or dangerous eating habits, mind your business ❤️

Why must dieting be absolutely fucking miserable
#ed blogs please dni i am not associated with you#i’ve only been calorie counting for 2.5 days and i’m already SICK OF THIS#why is every food i like to eat like 200 calories per mouthful#i’m planning dinner because i’m SO hungry already and why is a dollop of mayonnaise like the same amount of calories#as a whole can of butter beans. what’s the reason for that#i’m NOT switching to light mayo. at that point i’d rather just cut mayo from my diet altogether#light mayo; reduced fat margarine; light cream cheese & reduced salt marmite all taste horrendous to me#light cheddar as well. i’m not eating it!!!#don’t get me started on having to cut out weed because i will just start crying#being sober turns me into such a hater but the last thing i need is anything that will increase my appetite#i’ll be fine in like a week once my body adapts to eating 2074 calories instead of like fucking… 3000 or whatever it was#most of which were junk. i’m very sad that i can’t eat more than one sweet or piece of chocolate per day but i’m just trying not to think#about it. and while i’m on the subject; since when are fibre one brownies so boring. i feel like they used to taste legitimately good#i’m going to take up running again. because then i will be able to eat more. but also i will be hungrier. i CANNOT win#they really need to invent a low calorie food that actually tastes good to me. every time i google it i’m like eurgh#celery and nuts. fuck off#if i didn’t have arthritis in my knee and a family history of heart problems i wouldn’t be doing this shit but alas! i probably should#i just want to take like 20kg of strain off my knees it should not be this hard. and yet!#personal

Packs on the Pounds -
Fast food is convenient and cheap, but you pay a bigger price in the long run. Those burgers, fries, and shakes usually have more fat, calories, and highly processed carbs than your body needs in one meal. This can quickly lead to weight gain and obesity if you eat it often.
2/13
Harms Your Heart
Sodium makes fast food taste better and keeps it from spoiling. But just one bacon cheeseburger can contain your recommended daily value for sodium. That’s the amount of a nutrient experts suggest getting every day. Too much sodium raises your blood pressure and damages your blood vessels. It also raises your risk for heart failure, heart attack, and stroke.
3/13
Spikes Blood Sugar
Bagels, buns, and breaded foods are high in processed carbs your body breaks down into sugar. As blood sugar levels rise, your body pumps out insulin to level things out. Over time, these constant sugar spikes can wear out your pancreas (the organ that makes insulin). This keeps blood sugar levels high, triggering type 2 diabetes.
4/13
Opens the Door to Digestive Issues
Fast food may taste good, but you may not feel well once it hits your system. High-sodium foods (fries, anyone?) can temporarily trigger bloat. Couple that with low amounts of dietary fiber, and your digestive tract gets backed up. This can lead to constipation that puts you at risk for hemorrhoids, hernias, and diverticulitis.
5/13
Affects Your Mood
What you eat and drink can impact how you feel mentally and physically. Fast food lacks the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients your body needs to boost your mood. Research suggests fast and processed foods you buy at the store may be linked to a higher risk of depression.
6/13
Makes You Tired
When a bunch of processed carbs hit your system, your blood sugar rises quickly, then drops just as fast. This can make you feel tired. If you grab a sugary coffee drink to wake up, the cycle starts all over again.
7/13
Could Impact Your Fertility
Phthalates, synthetic chemicals that dissolve materials and make plastics durable, are in everything from toys to fast food. Recent studies have linked phthalates with fertility issues and higher risks of learning and behavioral disorders in children.
8/13
Changes Your Bathroom Habits
Because it’s highly processed, fast food -- especially the kind that’s fried or creamy -- can be hard to digest. If your body can’t break it down, it lands in your colon and turns into fatty acids that spark diarrhea.
9/13
Invites Dental Disease
The high levels of carbs and sugar in fast food, including sodas, raises the amount of acids in your mouth. These wear down the enamel on your teeth and boosts your risk of cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease.
10/13
Wears Out Your Bones and Joints
Excess weight and obesity caused by fast food puts extra pressure on your joints, especially your hips and knees. This makes you more likely to get fractures in the bones around your joints.
11/13
Raises Your Risk for Respiratory Issues
One fried chicken dinner won’t affect the way you breathe. But too much fast food can lead to extra weight that increases your risk of asthma, especially in women. More research is needed to know exactly why, but early studies show that fat tissue leads to inflammation that may affect your lungs.
12/13
Causes Skin Outbreaks
Fast food is full of ingredients that don’t play well with your skin. Sugar can lower collagen levels and lead to signs of early aging, like wrinkles. Salt drains moisture from your skin, but it helps your body keep the water that causes bags under your eyes. High amounts of saturated fats trigger hormones that play a role in acne.
13/13
Affects Your Memory
Experts think saturated and trans fats tell your body to make plaques in the brain. These cause dementia and raise your risk of Alzheimer’s disease three times more than those who don’t eat fast food.

More and more I’m realizing that my years-long back pain between my shoulder blades and general joint crunchiness and stiffness is probably not normal for a 21 year old (esp now that I’m exercising and stretching and it’s Not Better) but god the thought of going to the doctor, making multiple appointments, getting the whole runaround to either find out Nothing or Bad News fucking sucks. My blood test in the summer ruled out some stuff like Lyme disease but I have a high C-reactive protein which means there is definitely inflammation. Im supposed to make an appointment with a rheumatologist and it’s just scary
#and then if I do have arthritis or something there’s not much you can do for that except lifestyle and diet changes and managing pain#uuuughghgh why is having a body so bad#also as someone who works with my hands getting sore after only an hour of drawing / sewing whatever mega fucking sucks

My Big Fat Weight Loss Campaign: Part 1—How It Began
I gave up on losing weight a long time ago. I have all my life found the subject of my weight a huge embarrassment. I was not fat as a child, but I was plump, and bullies discovered early on that they could make me miserable by singing “Fatty Fatty Two-By-Four” on every occasion. My father harped on my weight all the time. He was thin as a blade without making any effort, and couldn’t understand…

4 Foods To Avoid If Your Dog Has Arthritis
As in people, there are many outside factors that can have an impact on your dog’s arthritis. You may find he enjoys playing more in warmer, drier weather, or that he is more active after taking joint supplements for a few months. Diet is another crucial component for arthritis in a dog.
Obesity can put additional stress on the joints and certain foods may help control arthritic flare-ups. Additionally, certain foods can promote or decrease inflammation levels, which contribute to arthritic pain levels. By monitoring your dog’s diet and eliminating certain foods, he may be able to live a more comfortable life. Here are 4 foods to avoid if your dog has arthritis.
1. Carbohydrates
Dogs who are arthritic may want to avoid these two types of carbohydrates: nightshade vegetables and grains/starches. These both contribute to inflammation, a main component of arthritis. Grains like wheat, rice, barely, and corn can fluctuate the blood sugar levels and increase swelling. Nightshade vegetables including potatoes, eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers can also contribute to arthritis symptoms. If you are using pet store food, check the ingredients carefully. Some foods that are grain-free use potatoes as a substitute.
2. Fatty Proteins
Meats that are high in fat contain high levels of omega 6 fatty acids – which contribute to inflammation. Giving your arthritic dog a lean protein source is ideal. Protein is important because it supports strong muscles. Feeding your dog a lean meat, or grass fed meat, can supply calories in the form of healthier omega 3 fatty acids.
3. Fats
In a diet, fats supply the most calories, therefore their levels and qualities must be closely monitored. Obesity is directly linked to the onset and severity of arthritis. If your dog is overweight, you should first promote weight loss. Each extra pound of weight your dog carries leads to further breakdown of the joint. The quality of fat you choose for your dog’s diet is important. Some fats can cause inflammation in the body, leading to pain and discomfort, while others balance out the system and decrease inflammation. Adding omega 3 fatty acids to your dog’s diet will help balance the potency of omega 6 and decrease its inflammatory effects.
4. Oil
It’s best to avoid plant-based oils including sunflower, safflower, corn and vegetable oils. These oils contain arachidonic acid – an omega 6 fatty acid. As mentioned before, omega 6 fatty acids increase inflammation. More specifically, the arachidonic acid in the oils changes into inflammatory compounds and high levels of these are associated with elevated inflammation.
Many times arthritis in your dog can be hard to spot. Subtle changes such as a decrease in desire to play, shorter walks, and more time sleeping could seem like nothing, but may actually be the start of arthritis. Diet is just one outside factor that can contribute to the symptoms of arthritis in your dog. To support overall joint health in your dog, we recommend seeing a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis, as well as incorporating an all-natural daily joint supplement into your dog’s diet. This will ensure your pet is on the path to aging gracefully and living a long, rewarding life.
