A Day to Listen & Every Child Matters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll share more on this on September 30th, but I just thought I'd share this here. This is for Canada but the issues the speakers bring up are relevant to the United States as well, perhaps more so because Canada at least pretends to be 'nice' about it (which is fallacy but even so...).
Tagging: @decolonize-the-everything and @nickysfacts in the hope this reaches more people and cause I think they'd appreciate the observations the speakers make, I am not Indigenous and I do not presume to speak for them, please kindly don't take this post out of context, dear people of the internet.

With international attention focused on Israel’s genocide in Gaza, Israel is violently and rapidly stealing more and more Palestinian land in the West Bank.
Israel’s most genocidal leaders are seeing through plans to force as many Palestinians out of their homes as possible in order to ensure they can never return.
“For every country that unilaterally recognizes a Palestinian state, we will establish a [illegal] settlement,” said Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
Let’s be clear, stealing Palestinians land has been Israel’s goal since day 1. It’s illegal, it’s wrong, and it must be stopped.
No one is above international law. The Biden administration should be pushing Israel to abide by international law, not enabling its war crimes against Palestinians.
Like all people, Palestinians deserve to be safe and free in their homes.

Hundreds of Jews and allies, including Writers Against the War on Gaza, sagaftramembersforceasefire and Film Workers for Palestine are present in the heart of Hollywood on the day of the Oscars to say: ALL EYES ON RAFAH!
While Hollywood celebrates, Israel prepares for the ground invasion of Rafah, where over 1.3 million Palestinians are seeking refuge. This comes as reports of extreme hunger continue to mount on the first day of Ramadan.
As filmworkers, Jews, and allies, we stand in solidarity with Palestinians. We won’t stop bearing witness. WHILE YOU’RE WATCHING, BOMBS ARE DROPPING" from Jewish Voice for Peace Los Angeles, 10/Mar/2024:

January 8, 2024 - A few of the many protests that happened this first week of 2024, as hundreds of thousands braved the weather in solidarity with the people of Palestine, and in condemnation of Israel's on-going genocide and fascist occupation. While our governments look away, the righteous people of the world have NOT forgotten our brothers and sisters in Palestine, suffering under the genocidal onslaught of the Israeli state, being murdered with American bombs. We keep marching, blockading, boycotting, and demanding an immediate end to the zionist occupation of Palestine!

A woman was fined in France (Lyon) because she was wearing a Kuffiya. The said it was because she was “planning to attend an illegal protest” Except there was no protest… they also mocked her because she hasn’t been in France for a long time so in a stressful situation she used English instead of French.
Now that didn’t surprise me at all cause last week I got fined for the same reason too. Except not only there was no protest but I live in a small town who hasn’t had a protest since 2018 and NEVER had an anti racist protest in its history. (People like me just go to the biggest city in the area for this kind of protests)
But the person who filmed the police got fined too… because they had a WATERMELON PINS. They also said it was for “planning to attend an illegal protest” but again no protest. Getting fined for a fucking watermelon pin.
This is what we mean when we say solidarity with Palestinians is criminalized. This is just a fucking pin. This is Western freedom of speech for y’all.

Today, April 27th, marks 30 years since the official end of South African apartheid and the first democratic election ever held in the republic. Like Nelson Mandela said, our freedom is still incomplete without the freedom of Palestine. Just as the South African apartheid regime was crushed, so shall Israel.

putting pressure on elected officials works. let's keep up the pressure to #CeasefireNOW and end the genocide.
Digital illustration of an upset asian woman with long curly hair. She is wearing a striped wrap dress and holding a dove. There's text that reads, 'keep up the pressure, end the genocide.'

For usamericans who may not know how to support decolonization and indigenous people in their every-day lives, may I suggest checking this list of native-owned businesses, curated and maintained by indigenous folks. There's food, candles, cbd pre-rolls, clothes, jewelry, hats, baby things, handicrafts, art, and hundreds of other useful and wonderful things. I check this list before I buy non-native owned as often as I can.
Also check out the native-owned (pulitzer-prize winner Louise Erdrich started it!) bookstore and press Milkweed Editions (dot org) for an amazing selection of books by indigenous authors. I recommend Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer (a collection of essays that will change your thinking if your mind is open at all) that's great for sitting down to read for bite-sized chunks. For book recommendations, check out this infographic!
Do you own property and want to support landback but still need a place to live? Odds are good that there's established precedence in your area to transfer its jurisduction to a local tribe and pay your land taxes and etc to them instead of the settler government!
Here is a list of charities and fundraisers for indigenous support.
Other ways to educate yourself and learn what indigenous people are working on nationally and locally is to follow indigenous people online! Many Native peoples on various social medias tag with #indigenous, #native, and by looking at those you will find many other tags and people to follow.
If you have extra cash, consider paying indigenous people's bail, donating to some of the causes linked above, or look for local initiatives to support in your own community!
