It's kinda hilarious but mostly sad for me that from the moment I muted the JohnLock tag because I was tired of seeing so-called TLJCers "meta posts" from 8 years ago and was looking in vain for Sherlock fans who had other interests than a non canon ship, I just... Don't see Sherlock related posts anymore? Except for a couple of Adlock and Sherlolly posts, but I don't engage with these ships either so 🤷
I took my Sherlock x OC fic off AO3 because I ended up losing interest. Never did I take off a fic from AO3 after only three chapters! And it wasn't even because it wasn't read: I was actually surprised to see it bookmarked, receive several kudos and even a couple of lovely comments. The kudos were anonymous for most of them but so what. It was nice to see the attention anyways. So it's not a case of "woman bitter because her shitty fanfic wasn't successful". Considering I had only three chapters online, it was a promising start.
Yet, I lost interest because my passion for the show wasn't fed by exchanges with other fans. I mean, I had a few very nice discussions, -I don't want to tag anyone but the three of you I have discussed Sherlock with several times should easily recognize themselves 💜-, but before I muted the JL tag I spent more time scrolling down than anything else. I think it's a shame because there was so much to this show than a ship. With my story I wanted to explore Sherlock's past, uncover a potential trauma caused by something else than Victor Trevor's death, open a discussion about this, about his relationship with his brother, his sister and his parents.... And I KNOW that Sherlock's relationship with John, wether it's considered platonic or not, is very important. I just wish I could find something else to discuss than Sherlock's feelings for X or Y, or his sexuality.
Some could say it's pretty much the same thing for the Hannibal's fandom: there's no doubt that if I muted Hannigram I wouldn't find any Hannigram related posts. Or I'd probably find anti Hannigram posts, ew. The big difference to me is that Will and Hannibal's relationship is at the core of the show. The show is called "Hannibal" but it could just as well be called "Hannibal and Will": even if you don't ship them, take the relationship out of the equation and the show has nothing left to say, like... Literally.
Don't get me wrong, Sherlock without the pair Sherlock/John would probably be crap, but it would still have Sherlock's relationship with his family to cover. And boy there's much to say, imho. While Hannibal has no one else than Will. Will has no one else than Hannibal. That's the story. Also Hannigram is canon. So it makes sense to me that most of the fandom's posts are focused on Will and Hannibal. It hasn't stopped me from starting a pre-Hannigram fic because I'm very intrigued by the professor Lecter had an affair/student Alana Bloom storyline they hinted at in season 2, but I know I won't lost interest in this fandom anytime soon, because I feel fed by it. And this weird/toxic/and yet very romantic relationship between these two weirdos keeps fascinating me, even after four rewatchings! Besides, most Hannibal fans are unhinged which is I must say, a quality I appreciate very much 😁

Gay means gay, not half straight, not bisexual, just gay!

I can't stand opposites attract dynamics. They make no sense to me. Why would opposites attract? Kindred spirits who have never seen themselves in anyone but each other and that's why they fall in love>>>>

Actually still seeing people say stuff like “maybe the adlockers & sherlollies were right about sherlock being hetero-“
BOY. When did we say that? Who the hell is saying that?? Cause from where this adlocker’s sitting, sherlock is the most bisexual character on the show. He’s queer as hell. Man’s straight as a slinky. As bi as a bicycle.
…….Oh but I forgot that doesn’t actually count, because the only queer identities that are queer enough to count in their minds are gay men they can ship with other men without female interference. Right. My bad. Silly me thinking women had any place in the equation.

being an adlocker back in the day meant contending with Not only johnlockers and the crimes of moffat but also from within the adlock fandom itself misogyny, biphobia, lesbophobia, homophobia, anti sex work rhetoric, weird racist ideas about pakistan, and also older fanfic writers who should NOT have been talking to their teenage followers like that

^ This is exactly what I was trying to explain. You literally can’t watch this scene without either 1) admitting that adlock is real or 2) admitting that johnlock is not real.

LINE INTERPRETATION
For those who say we are erasing Miss Adler’s sexuality.

In other news, I no longer ship Adlock because Irene Adler is a goddess and mr. Sexist, unappreciative, bbc Sherlock Holmes doesn’t deserve her.

To this day I'm still amazed by the fact that an Adlocker told me I'm erasing a sexuality by being anti Adlock when literally the whole ship is about ignoring that Irene is a canon lesbian ???? Like wow

In addition to all this, the proof is literally staring them in the face: in that very scene that they keep quoting- the one where she says she’s gay- her very next words are “and look at us both.”
Meaning ‘I usually prefer women but I’m attracted to Sherlock, how weird is that.’
Like.. they cherry pick to the extent that they don’t even realise the rest of her sentence disproves their point 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Irene is a lesbian and she even admitted to it. I do not really believe that Sherlock and Irene were in love. They are both extremely gay but they were intrigued by each other. Irene was fascinated with Sherlock because of his amazing ability to solve crimes and Sherlock was fascinated with Irene because of how clever she was. But there was no sexual attraction. Sherlock always looked at Irene’s brain and never her body, he only looked at her measurements to solve the case. Never for love.

What do you think about Johnlock?
It's my NOTP in Sherlock, mainly because of the fans. I never saw the subtext they speak of and I have watched Sherlock countless times. I prefer Adlock to it.

Sherlock after the return: I was married. For two years.
John: What the hell?
Sherlock: Yeah, I mean, she was a lesbian, but still.
Sherlock: We met in a "Pray Away the Gay" Bible group.
Sherlock: That was a pretty weird time for me.

john: repeatedly says he's not gay, he's not dating/in love with sherlock, frequently dates women
anti's: hE's ObViOuSlY bIsExUaL. he never said he wasn't.
irene: makes sherlock the key to her phone which sherlock calls her heart, is known to have sexual relationships with both men and women, straight out says she wants to f*ck sherlock, frequently flirts with him, risks her own life to let her sherlock know she's alive because he's sad she's gone, her presumed last words are for him, it's confirmed by writers & actors alike that she's in love with him
anti's: SHE IS GAY. SHE SAID SHE WAS GAY AND SHE CAN'T MEAN ANYTHING ELSE. SHE'S ONLY ALLOWED TO BE WITH WOMAN, HOW DARE YOU THINK SHE COULD BE BISEXUAL OR PAN OR ANYTHING BESIDES STRICTLY LESBIAN.

Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers
Me, every time this statement comes across my dash:
Tumblr media
People. Friends. Tumblr groupies. Fam. Cool kids. Kittens. Please pay attention.
CHROME. ALLOWS. AD. BLOCKERS.
Chrome has always allowed ad blockers. Chrome still allows ad blockers, even in the latest (as of Feb 2023) version, which is the one all the (inaccurate) panic posts were going around saying was going to ban all privacy features. Chrome not only still allows customized privacy settings, but supports extensions that reduce or disable cookie-based tracking, boost security, screen pages for malicious code, and pretty much anything else you can think of to protect your web presence. Yes, you can argue the relative merits of inbuilt MV2 vs. MV3 traffic blocking (believe it or not, there are pros and cons on both sides! not that Tumblr ever let facts stand in the way of opinions), but third-party extensions are still fully supported.
I'm not just picking on this post; there are so many of these anti-Chrome posts going around, full of misinformation, because... I guess people want to take some kind of moral stance against Google and generate more hate for them, so they feel justified in spreading (easily-disproven) lies about their products? I honestly don't know why else so much of this would come across my dash -- surely not everyone on Tumblr is so bad at research that they can't Google (or, y'know, some other search engine that isn't a beloathed megacorporation) "does Chrome allow ad blockers?" before posting a tirade against it.
Case in point: I've also seen multiple posts that say things like, "Firefox is much better than Chrome because it allows uBlock Origin!" Well, wouldn't you know it, so does Chrome. In fact, I have uBlock Origin running right now, alongside my password manager and anti-web-tracking extensions (things I've also seen touted as Firefox-only features):
Tumblr media
In addition to uBlock Origin (my preferred ad killer), there are Chrome extensions available for AdBlock, AdBlock Plus, AdBlocker Ultimate, AdLock, AdGuard, Total Adblock, Surfshark Cleanweb, and... well, that was just one page of results, but there are plenty more. Point being, you can have your choice of third party add-ons even beyond the browser's settings.
To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against Firefox -- it's a good browser with lots of nice features, and I use it occasionally when I don't need the specific stuff I have installed on Chrome -- but Chrome users have access to a lot of those features as well (and should probably be using them, for security reasons). The main differences between Firefox and Chrome are that Chrome is integrated into other Google services, which is a pro for some users (Workspace and business functionality) and a con for others (out-of-the-box privacy concerns), and that it performs the same kind of data collection as using Google's search engine (much of which can be managed or disabled in your privacy settings). Both of them are superior to whatever default browser came preinstalled on your OS (usually Edge/Safari), and neither of them are inherently as privacy-oriented as DuckDuckGo.
Ultimately, you should choose the browser that works best for your needs. If you don't like Google's data collection and don't want to use their product, by all means use a different browser! But don't pretend it's because Chrome lacks features or third-party extension support or is somehow functionally inferior to Firefox.
Getting really sick of all the "There's No Place Like Chrome" ads on youtube. There's Firefox. Firefox saves your passwords. Firefox autofills things if you want. Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers, and it does not mine your data and sell your information for advertising purposes. Google is really trying to push people to use Chrome so they can take as much data from users as possible in order to make as much money as possible and it's borderline sinister.
Anyway, download Firefox.
