Mary Todd pt 6
Beginning Previous
"Jay-Jay?"
The old nickname froze the air as quickly as Frozer had frozen Paris. No one moved. No one could move. Ladybug could only stare in open faced shock at the man who claimed to be her brother, Red Hood. Red Hood was her brother? She couldn't believe it. She couldn't process it. She couldn't even blink as her mind spiraled in an attempt to make sense of this new information. Apparently Red Hood was going through the same process, because the moment those words left her lips, he started back as if he had been hit by a buss. Now he stood frozen and silent. His blank helmet gave no indication of what he was feeling, even though her every emotion was painted clearly on her face. "He knows my identity," some distant logical part of her brain thought. "He knows I'm Marinette. And Batman's here, now he knows."
Ladybug didn't dare look at Batman, not even from the corner of her eye. She just couldn't take her eyes away from Red Hood, away from her brother. Away from Jay-Jay. Ladybug felt the wave of relief and confusion wash over her. She had been prepared for a month long search. A marathon of research, travelling, and careful planning, in order to find even a shred of detail about her past. And now, not even one hour after typing in her name, here he was. Jay-Jay. There was so much they needed to talk about. There was so much she needed to say! She didn't even know his real name! Ladybug worked her mouth preparing her words carefully.
BAM!!!
All three heroes jumped into fighting positions, as Wonder Woman burst through the doors. She didn't even wait for the automatics, she just slammed the doors open and caught one before it could swing back on her. She studied the room and the three occupants with a critical wariness, but Ladybug could only blink at her presence in confusion.
"Ladybug," Wonder Woman said tensely, "Is everything alright?"
Ladybug caught a glimpse of Wonder Girl peeking out from behind her mentor, and Ladybug mentally cursed herself. Of course Cassie had gone to get Diana. After the display she and Batman had put on in the computer room, and the state Red Hood had entered in, naturally she (and probably every other Leaguer who saw them) was going to think something was amiss. The Spotted Hero rushed to reassure the Amazonian with a forced smile and consoling eyes. "Yes, everything's fine Diana. Thank you for worrying, but everything's fine. Batman, Red Hood, and I just had some personal matters to discuss. As a matter of fact, we..."
Her words drifted into nothing as Red Hood practically ran from the room, as Wonder Woman stepped further into it. Her eyes followed him long after he was gone, and she could not stop the pounding ache that was left in his wake. She had just found him. He was right there. Fifteen years! Fifteen years, and he had been right beside her! And just like that he was gone.
Batman cleared his throat and finished Ladybug's sentence, "We were just finishing up. There was just a miscommunication regarding some personnel files. Ladybug..."
She turned to face the Dark Knight, and was momentarily shocked to see that his expression--though still as stoic as a boulder, had softened from a jagged rock about to crush her, to a complaisant stone content to let her be. Even his voice seemed to soften towards her when he said, "I hope that we can get this sorted as quickly as possible. I will speak with Hood and see if we can't speed along the process. Until then, I recommend that you do nothing. I will contact you through the League once we've made progress, and perhaps we can have this issue sorted in Paris."
He left without another word, and to anyone else, it would have seemed as if they had been talking about a run of the mill operation that required no more thought than a brief, "Huh, Ladybug and Batman, that's a weird team-up."
But for Ladybug herself, every word the Dark Knight had said was a grating metal. "Do nothing?" He wanted her to step to the side and do nothing! She did not save Paris by doing nothing! She did not save the world by stepping aside and letting "Batman" take the lead! He had been trying to keep Jay-Jay away from her until a few minutes ago. If she let him control this, she had a feeling she would never see her brother again. After all, they knew who she was and hadn't reached out before. Not even a whisper. No! Batman had had his chance to reunite them. Now it was her turn. This was her mission, and she was going to do this her way!
So she turned to Diana, and did everything in her power to ease the Princess's mind. She did not need one of the greatest warriors in the League declaring war on Gotham. So they talked of everything and nothing, of when Ladybug would come to visit Themyscira, and how her magic training was going, and other such ramblings that Ladybug could answer without much thought. But in the back of her mind, in that part of her brain that was never really turned off no matter what was happening around her, the hero of Paris was making plans. Plans that would not be stopped even if the entire Batclan stood before her. And given the last thirty minutes, she didn't doubt that that was exactly what she was up against.
Roy entered the Manor with a sigh. The fact that it had come to this was truly telling, and he hoped that Jason would realize that and snap out of whatever funk he was in. It had started in Paris. Ever since they had met Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Roy didn't think he would ever forget her name, even though he didn't think he would ever see her again) Jason had been dancing with Lazarus Pit in his head a little too close to the edge of sanity for anyone's comfort. Even the other Bats and Birds had noticed, which led Roy turning to Dick of all people in an attempt to find a solution.
Of course Dick couldn't do anything without getting the entire family involved, which Roy couldn't really fault him for. At least he was trying to keep his family in one piece, unlike other members of the Batclan. Still, when Roy had gone to Dick he had assumed that their strategy would be something along the lines of getting Jason drunk and going on a bar crawl while Steph an Cass watched Lian. But the eldest Wayne kid had somehow talked everyone into a movie night featuring Pride and Prejudice. Roy didn't know how he had pulled it off, and if he was being honest, he was too afraid to ask. The big brother powers of Dick Grayson were one of the great mysteries of the universe.
Still, Lian was excited. Jason was guaranteed to be there. And Alfred had banned all weapons for the night, so maybe the stubborn bastard could finally have a relaxing night. The guy needed it, especially if the rumors were true and Red Hood had gone up to the Watchtower that morning. Roy sighed again, he really needed to have a serious talk with his best friend.
When they entered the movie room, Lian immediately went to her aunties, and they in turn immediately began to spoil her. Roy's eye went directly to Jason, who was slumped dejectedly at the back of the small theater staring at the seat in front of him with vacant unblinking eyes. Roy winced at how pale he was, it was like Jason had literally become a zombie. "What happened?" Roy asked Dick in a low whisper.
"I don't know," he answered casting worried looks at his little brother. "I got home from work, and Al told me not to go down into the cave. He said Jay and B had gone up to the Watchtower, and when they got back Jay was so deep in the madness they had to sedate him! When I tried to go down and help, Al said that it was a private matter and me being there would only make it worse."
Roy's eyebrows shot into his hair at that. Of all the Waynes the only people with a more calming presence than Dick were Cass and Alfred. And of all of the people most ill-suited to talk Jason out of a bout of pit madness, Bruce was probably the worst. Roy looked around the room to see if anyone else was acting unusually. Steph and Barbara were completely engrossed with Lian, not unusual except for the fact that it was borderline domestic. That was a little unusual for this house, but it was growing more common. Damian was scowling at the empty screen, muttering about this being a waste of time. Completely expected. Tim was on his phone. It would have to be something apocalyptic to get him to put it down. And Duke was already hogging the popcorn. Smart.
The only people who seemed to notice Jason's mood were himself, Dick, Cass, Bruce, and Alfred. However, only Bruce and Alfred seemed to be in the know as their hidden glances were a mix of pity and concern, where Cass seemed to be just as confused as him and Dick. "What happened?' Roy hissed again.
"I don't know?" Dick whispered harshly. "None of them will tell me anything."
Roy sighed, "Maybe it's a good thing we're not going on that bar crawl."
Dick gave a dry huff of a laugh. He watched his brother as if he might crumble into dust, but all they could do was stand there and wonder. Finally they were pulled from their thought's by Damian demanding,
"Are we going to get on with this tedious bit of frivolity or not? Grayson! Start the movie already! I want this finished as quickly as possible, and then return to Titus."
"Alright! Alright!" Dick said with forced cheeriness. "One literature and movie classic coming up! Every one to your seats and we can---"
"EEEEEEIIIIIIII!" Tim screeched, causing everyone to jump to attention. But Tim didn't seem to notice, and he obviously did not care because he was holding his phone within an inch of his face beaming as if he had just won the lottery. "I can't believe it! I...I just...Oh my god!"
"Tim," Stephanie said, "Is everything ok?"
Tim jerked his head up, his smile never faltered for a moment, making everyone flinch. It was rare to see this much outright joy and excitement on the usually serious and sleep deprived Robin. "We've been accepted!" He cried.
"By what?" Bruce asked cautiously.
"My favorite designer!" He yelled throwing his hands in the air. "I put us on their wait list years ago! And they've finally accepted our commission! They said that now their identity is out, they can start accepting more clients! And they chose us! Eeeeiiii!" he squealed again and began tapping his phone furiously. But before anyone could ask any questions, he was already speaking as he hacked the movie screen. "They're coming to Gotham to design our Winter Gala outfits! I can't believe they finally accepted! WE has been on the waiting list for years!"
"Who Tim?" Barbara demanded, "Who accepted?"
"My favorite designer!" He yelled again, "MDC!"
There was a whoosh as the picture on Tim's phone mirrored onto the movie screen. Roy blinked at the picture of Marinette Dupain-Cheng blushing on the red carpet of the Paris Hero's Gala as Jagged Stone and his children displayed her in a recreation of the Will Smith meme. Under her stunning red dress was the head line, "MDC Revealed: Marinette Dupain-Cheng Teenage Designer to the Stars!" Roy felt a smile tug at the corner of his mouth. He briefly considered what it would take, to "accidently" bump into her at WE, when the loud slamming of a door shook him from his thoughts. Roy spun around and saw that Jason was missing, and Alfred and Bruce were hurrying after him. Roy looked back at the picture of the beautiful woman in the stunning red dress. And all he could think was, "What the hell is going on?"
"I can't see her Bruce," Jason said curled up in the darkest, smallest corner of the library. "I can't!"
If Jason would look up, he would see that Bruce was kneeling, far enough away to not be a threat but close enough to hear the faintest whisper, with the most pained expression that had ever crossed the Dark Knight's face. Bruce looked up at Alfred standing sarenely behind him. The wise old man just shook his head in empathy and said nothing. Bruce took a deep breath and said, "Jason---"
"I CAN'T B!!! I CAN'T!!!" Jason yelled in a furry, his eyes tinged green. "I...I can't...I called her a bitch! And she knows...she knows what I am...that I'm Red Hood...I can't...I can't bare to see her hate me...I can't put her in that position...I can't put her in that kind of danger...I can't hurt her again...All I've ever done is hurt her...I just...can't."
Bruce closed his eyes and sighed. He thought over his next words carefully. finally he said, "I do not know Marinette. But I do know Ladybug. And what I know is this...I can't stop her. I have tried," He said before Jason could interrupt him, "I have. But no matter what the situation. No matter what the cause. If Ladybug thinks she's in the right, then nothing will stop her...We can't stop her from coming to Gotham, Jason. So we do what we can. What we do best."
Jason scoffed but turned to face Bruce. He was pale, and shaking, but determined. "Oh yeah," he said, "And what's that?"
"We plan."

Chapter 15
this is based on @thepeacetea daminette soulmate au
MasterList *** First *** Previous
~~~~~~~~~~
Under the cover of darkness, close to midnight, did Mari leave to meet Wonder Woman.
When Marinette arrived at the Justice League headquarters in France she was met with not one, not two, but three Amazonians.
"Queen Hippolyta, it’s wonderful to see you once again." She greeted.
"As well as you, little bug." Came the Queen‘s response.
Marinette de-transformed and then they started the conversation.
They discussed how they would proceed with the miraculous threat and how to retrieve all the miraculous without causing irreparable harm. Because the thought is that whoever this Hawkmoth is, he was no chosen of a Kwamii. Meaning there will be consequences, and even though his actions are not ones they condone or support. That doesn’t mean they are cruel enough to let this person be harmed by their own stupidity.
Yes the miraculous give blessings to their holders, but only if they are the right holder, with the right jewel. As each time a miraculous is used, the holder quite literally channels the kwamii's power. The more compatible, to the kwamii, a.k.a. a true chosen, the person is able to use the powers of the miraculous safer and easier. The opposite is also true, and incompatible person will be hurt to the point of damaging themselves physically, mentally, emotionally, and even damage their souls.
Which is why they also had to find this guardian to see about taking back the miraculous of the cat.
Which brings us to the reason why there’s three Amazonian‘s currently in front of her in Europe.
Wonder Woman, because yes she is Marinette's teacher of sorts within the Justice League.
Queen Hippolyta, for being a past ladybug, and also because it would be wise to seek out the Guardian.
And finally Artemis who was tasked with finding the guardian to discuss how this threat will be eliminated.
After a bit a back-and-forth Diana decided that she would have to head back, and so did Hippolyta. Artemis had decided to start the search halfway through the conversation and had left.
Now that she was alone, she knew there was another person she needed to meet with. So, she re-transformed and checked her yo-yo.
Luckily there he was transformed and roaming the city. With a quick text of directions, she was off. It took less than 10 minutes to arrive, seeing as he was already there.
Before she said a word, with a practiced motion, she drew one of her escrima sticks. And proceeded to draw a spell glyph in the air. Resulting in a protective box inside the bell story.
"Thank you for coming Chat Noir."
"Is there something you need to discuss?"
"Yeah… there is." She took a breath to steady herself.
"Are you planning on sharing our identities?" He wiggled his eyebrows, she assumes.
"No, I wasn't." She saw him deflate. "Did you receive your miraculous from the guardian?" She started to question.
"Yeah… " He seemed to think but almost like he wasn’t sure, figures, seeing that he was rubbing the back of his neck.
"You don’t actually know." It wasn’t a question but a statement.
"Sorry." He shook his head.
"No, it’s fine. Artemis can find him, and Hippolyta will know what to do." She hung her head and whispered to herself ever so slightly.
"Was that all you wanted?" He stepped towards her, but she stepped back.
She shook her head in response. "Did your kwamii... did Plagg tell you..."
"How the black cat and ladybug are soulmates meaning you and I are Soulmates. Oh what do you think our soul mark is. I haven't noticed anything different have you?" He spoke without taking a breath, waiting for her answer.
"Sorry, but you aren't my cat." She shook her head.
"What?!"
"You and I aren't soulmates." She stepped forward, taking his hands in hers. The certainty in her voice caused him to freeze.
"Does this mean I'm not a hero." His voice and ears dropped; his head bowed sadly.
"No." Her voice was steady, no hesitation in her voice or posture. "You are a hero. Your actions so far prove that."
"But I'm not your cat."
"No, but you are a chosen."
"How could you know that for sure?"
He looked at her sadly as if he didn’t believe a single thing. A small small part of her understood that whatever he was feeling was because of something in his personal life made it so.
That the love and attention he got was conditional. It broke Mari's heart but also, she understood. She remembers before Papa, Uncle B, her brothers, before Damian, the love she received in Paris was conditional. She also knew Damian would understand because of the League's similar conditions.
She had to shake her head before she could spiral. "I know you are. Because your soul resonates to the miraculous. It just isn't that of the black cat. But..."
"LB. you should give this to your soulmate." He didn't let her argue, he dropped the transformation. "You are Ladybug and I am not your cat."
He took off the ring, grabbed her hand and placed the ring into her palm. "I’m sorry for wasting everyone’s time."
There in front of her stood a blond-haired boy, his eyes closed, with a sad, defeated look on his face, and a say in his shoulders.
"You didn’t."
She grabbed the blonde haired boy’s wrist.
Marinette was going to drop her transformation, but call it intuition or maybe this was cosmic interference, so she didn’t. "Please, keep the ring until my cat can take your role. But you have helped so much, please continue being a hero."
"You're just saying that. You don’t know me." He mumbled barely audible. If it weren’t for her enhanced sense and close proximity, she would have missed it.
"Hey kid." Mari heard a new voice drawl. "Adrien."
The boy looked up and noticed the black kwamii floating in front between the two of them. "Plagg?"
"You might not have been my kitten, but you are a hero. And I’ve seen my fair share of them." Plagg responded as a matter of fact.
"Adrien." She repeated the name, drawing his attention. "Plagg is right. Heroes are more than just being chosen by a miraculous, artifact, or powers. It's what they choose to do with that power. You have a heart of a hero, so please don’t lose faith so easily."
She took the ring that was placed in her hand, grabbed his wrist, and pushed the ring of the black cat in his palm. "Fight with me for the time being."
---
"I..." She didn't let him answer. She turned and swung away from the tower.
"Are you putting the ring back on or what kid?" Plagg's voice snapped him from his racing mind.
"Yeah." He re-transformed and went home. The next morning he was resolved to go to school. Natalie and Gorilla caught him at the gate, but let him go in.
He made his way to the homeroom. When he stepped in everyone went quiet before he was tackled by Chloe.
"Adrikins!" She clung to his neck as he tried to regain his balance. "There's an open seat here in front of me!"
she led him to a front desk. "Thanks, Clo."
Was all he could say before the blonde next to him shouted. "What are you doing in my seat!?"
"The only thing needed for the triumph of evil, is for good people to do nothing." A bespeckled girl sitting behind him sat resolved.
"Get..." Chloe started but was cut off.
"Here-Here," A girl with blue hair, dyed at the ends responded, causing the entire classroom to watch her. But she didn't look up from her tablet.
"You're supposed to be on my side, Mer!" She stomped.
"And outburst like this is why everyone thinks you're a brat, Goldie."
"I have high standards." Chloe argued back.
"And you can still have them in the empty row up front." the girl pointed forward without looking up.
"I hate when you use that logic." Chloe grumbled but moved seats.
Adrien couldn't believe it. Someone could actually reign in Chloe.
"Hi, name's Nino." The boy sharing his bench introduced himself, snapping him out of his trance.
"Adrien." He greeted.
"I have to ask are you really friends with Chloe?" Nino asked.
"She's my only friend." He shrugged.
"Well now you have two." Nino pointed to himself.
"I'd like that." Adrien smiled.
"So, you don't know Marinette?" Nino brought up.
"Who?"
Nino pointed at the bluenette in the back who was still absorbed in the tablet. "she's apparently also Chloe's childhood friend."
"Really?" Adrien didn't recognize her.
"Apparently she just came back to Paris." Nino informed. "She seems nice enough, she's just blunt. We all don't know her well though."
"I heard she moved because of bullying?" A brown-haired girl behind him piped in.
"Really gurl." The bespeckled girl popped in. "You’re in the know Lila, spill."
The two girls behind him started talking, but his attention was on the girl sitting in the back of the class.
The whole day he tried to talk to her, but someone kept him. Be it Nino, unknowingly, Chloe demanding his attention, or her disappearing.
Then he saw her.
They were the last two in the school. It was almost like his luck started to turn. She was standing by the entrance, just before stepping out in the rain. She was on the phone. It took him a moment to realize she wasn't speaking French, but english.
So, he quickly hid behind a trash can while in earshot.
"I know I should've..." He doesn't think she noticed him.
'...' The other person must've said something, as she pursed her lips.
"That would've crushed them!"
'...'
"I know... but."
'...'
'Sigh.' "Why don't we talk later." She breathed. "The walls have ears after all." She looked directly at him.
She knew he was there; did she know the whole time.
"No need, I'm already here." A boy with black hair came running in the rain.
"You're soaked!" She hit him with her umbrella.
"Sorry." the looked down and opened his own umbrella. "I didn't mean to eavesdrop." He held out the umbrella to the boy.
He hesitated before taking it.
Thunder clapped.
Adrien ran out to the waiting car.
He might not have talked to her, he might not have made the best impression, but he hopes that it's a start. He smiled down at his hands. Barely catching a glimpse of the golden ink that was sinking back into his skin.
Everyone talks about the height difference between Marinette and Adrien being so cute
But I want Marinette to get Tom’s genes and become the Amazonian warrior of Ardien’s dreams. Tall and buff af!
You know he would be a “step on me” simp
I agree, but I also see her making a *stab* at the fashion scene. Marinette is very competitive. She enjoys being recognized. The chance to push her concepts of fashion into the greater industry and win over the masses/establishment in spite of themselves? Perfect!
Not to mention having Gabriel Industries *right there* as an existing(Gabriel involved or no) supply/production/advertising/distribution network would be sooo tempting.
Marinette overworking herself. Marinette neglecting family. Marinette using work to avoid personal/emotional issues. Marinette acquiring a rival. Marinette acquiring a protegé. Marinette working with old friends (6'+ tall amazonian model Juleka is a fave of mine) Marinette working with old enemies (Chloé in charge of style Queen, no longer focused on Marinette but still a bull in a china shop) etc etc.
Marinette might very easily come out the other end with a bespoke store and a 'normal life' but I think the industry phase just has a lot of hooks for plots for her. No shade to anyone who skips it though. Marinette the night watchwoman at the Lourve can work if done right.
tbh i just don't care about marinette owning a huge company and getting mega rich/successful or whatever. like thats fine and all but mostly i just want to see her be creative and unabashedly herself right to the very end. i want her making weird crafts and creating strange devices and making fashion that speaks to her and oozes personality over whatever'll sell the best yknow. marinette would do numbers in niche communities. she would have the COOLESt etsy account that sells a wide variety of all different kinds of crafts that you wouldnt even believe. you know what i mean
Marichat May: Day 2--Greek AU
I know this is days late, but I just got an idea, so whatevs.
Marinette: I was going to make her one of Artemis’ Hunters, but they swear off all men which is problematic for a ship. So she’s an Amazonian Warrior, who do have men in their matriarchal society.
Chat Noir: A few sources told me that black cats were thought to be omens of death and servants of Hekate, goddess of magic. They were also associated with the Egyptian goddess Bast as the Greek equated her with Artemis.
No idea what the story would be, but I liked the concept!
Young Survivors — Part 2 — Maribat
So, I had a very productive sunday. Tadaa.
I had no desire to write about Hawkmoth so I just… zipped over it. This part is really just about what happened in the years between the moment she became Ladybug and her return to Gotham. Good news, tho, I already started on writing the Gotham trip! So there is going to be a next part!
~~~~~~~~~~~~
She was Ladybug for three years, the Guardian for two, when she claimed back the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous.
She had had suspicions about Gabriel Agreste since the whole debacle with the Miraculous Book and his convenient Akumatization, but both Chat Noir and Master Fu weren’t convinced at the time. Still, she kept an eye on him, trying to find something, anything, that could prove that she was right or wrong. But every time something that could incriminate him came up, something to clear him happened right after. That was damn convenient, though, and it was enough for Master Fu to let her keep investigating, but when she would bring it up with Chat he would end up taking it badly and calling her paranoid. (Today she knew why, of course, but at the time she had been hurt by the apparent disregard her partner had toward her.)
When she lost Master Fu, she became the guardian and lost her only adult support as Ladybug. That was enough for her to stop giving a fuck about what the Mayor and Chat (and Master Fu) thought about it and asked the Justice League for help. It took a little bit of time, but Wonder Woman called her back, surprised to hear that Ladybug wasn’t the one that asked Paris’ Mayor to put a non-miraculous-hero-ban on the city. The Mayor, the coward, had told the JL she didn’t want them here because of the Miraculous’ hocus pocus. It was a lie, but she still couldn’t do anything about the ban. Politics.
Though she couldn’t help in person, Diana arranged for Ladybug to be able to go on Themyscira, using the Kaalki’s miraculous, to receive training from her people. Her trips to the island, short as they were, were really helpful for her mental help; the Amazonians helped her through her emotions, helping her grieve for her brother (they helped her bring Mei back to life, bit by bit) and with the problems she was facing as Marinette.
Chat wasn’t very happy about involving outsiders, but he still let her train him a little. Not as much as she would have liked, but he didn't have much free time to spare in his civilian life. (Looking back on it, Marinette really wondered how she didn’t find out his identity sooner. The wonder of magic.)
Then, Diana put her in contact with Batman (and wasn’t that a slap in Mei’s Marinette’s face, to talk with the man that had haunted the street of her first home, the first person that thought that Gotham and its habitants weren’t all lost). He and Robin not only believed her suspicion toward Gabriel to be valid, but they also actively tried to help prove her theory one way or the other. It took the three of them a little over a year, but they finally gathered enough evidence to be a hundred percent sure of Gabriel Agreste’s culpability.
(Chat Noir broke down in tears when she told him, with proof to back it up, who was Hawkmoth. Still, it took him calling off his transformation before she understood why, and too many things made sense after that, poor chaton. She hugged him so tightly, she almost broke his ribs, and they spent that night sparring on their rooftop. She had wanted to tell him who she was then, but he was too afraid he would be akumatized and didn’t want to risk it.)
In retrospect, Hawkmoth’s defeat was a bit anticlimactic. There was no epic and public battle to the death, there wasn’t even a fight. Ladybug unified her miraculous with Trixx’s, becoming Lady Vixen, and sneaked into Agreste’s house through Adrien’s window. After that it was just Chat and her entering Gabriel’s room under Mirage and taking the Miraculous off of him while he slept. He woke up as soon as he felt it, but he honestly hadn’t held a chance against the both of them while not being transformed.
Everything after that happened quickly; they called the police, got both Gabriel and Nathalie arrested for terrorism, and found a comatose Emily Agreste in the basement. (Adrien broke down again. Understanding why his father had decided to become a terrorist only made it worse.)
Ladybug and Chat Noir gave a press conference to announce the end of Hawkmoth's reign and his identity, keeping only his motivation quiet. (During which Ladybug thanked the Justice League — Wonder Woman, Batman, and the newly dubbed Red Robin in particular— for their help bringing him down. At the Mayor’s, and Paris as a whole, visible surprise.)
Then Adrien told her he was going to step down from being Chat Noir. Definitively.
“I can’t be Chat Noir anymore,” he had told her softly, looking down at his ring. “People are looking at me now, wondering if I worked with my father to terrorize Paris. I… I think that the only way I could possibly reassure the people that I didn’t would be to tell them that I was Chat Noir. Only if you agree, of course. And I know that I would need to renounce Plagg if I did that, but…”
“Are you really sure it’s what you want, Adrien? You know that I… If you do that I...” She stopped herself, tugging on one of her pigtails.
“You could not tell me who you are? Yeah, I thought about that too,” he told her with a hollow laugh. “I’m going to get a lot of attention, whether I reveal that I was Chat Noir or not, and I don’t think it’s the sort of thing you will need as the Guardian. I don’t think it’s safe for me to know your identity either way, Bugaboo.”
So, they held another press conference, where Ladybug announced that she was stepping down from Hero works until her graduation at the very least, barring a world ending event. She didn’t specify which graduation, but people assumed she was talking about college (because they all assumed Ladybug and Chat Noir were adults, nobody wanted to acknowledge that children fought their battle alone), but, frankly, she hadn’t even known herself.
Chat Noir announced that he was stepping down definitively and relinquishing his Miraculous, before markedly taking off his ring and giving it to Ladybug. The crowd went wild, shocked to see Hawkmoth’s son being the hero that had protected them for years. Ladybug had only fiercely hugged her best friend (another best friend that she wasn’t strong enough to protect) before taking off, letting Chat Noir Adrien handle the rest of the conference.
After that day, Ladybug was only seen the day she testified against Agreste in court (he got a life sentence but she still thought he got out easily) before totally disappearing from Paris.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
(A couple of days after Adrien moved to London, Ladybug asked Diana if she knew someone that could help Emilie Agreste. If she was surprised, she didn’t let it show and only gave her the contact of a couple of magic’s practitioners.
John Constantine said he could probably help her, but he wanted a copy of the Miraculous’ Grimoire if he pulled it off. After a long discussion with the Kwamis, where she had Plagg support, she accepted his deal. (There was a lot of begging in her discussion with the Kwamis. A lot.)
It took him five months to wake her up, and Ladybug had no regrets when she handed him the promised copy.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette’s life hadn’t been as smooth sailing as she would have hoped it to be.
Sure, she knew that it wouldn’t be a boring life the second she became Ladybug, but she had thought the most draining part would be the superheroine part. Not her civilian one.
Although, it probably would have been easier if she hadn’t made herself Lila Rossi’s enemy.
Not that she regretted it, of course not, but it was, admittedly, the roots of all her problems.
Her last year of collège had been hell, and despite the disdain that she had felt when Rossi had first threatened her (Rossi had threatened her, and had genuinely thought herself intimidating. What a joke), the girl did deliver what she had promised.
Marinette didn’t see it coming, too preoccupied with her responsibilities as Ladybug, at first, then as a Guardian, but her friends in class started to shut her off. Slowly growing (being pulled) apart from her, leaving her behind.
Looking back at it, she couldn’t really tell when she stopped being friends with most of them. There hadn’t been a clean break, a day or an event that would have caused the split. It was gradual, little by little. But by the end of collège, the only one in class she could have called a friend was Alix. (Losing Nino and Alya friendships had been the most painful. The first because she had known him the longest, he knew her when she was still Mei only. The latter because she thought she was her best friend, she thought they had clicked like she hadn’t with someone since Jason.)
Then she started lycée, and the only people of her old class in her new one were Alix, Chloé, and Max. (Alya and Lila were in the same lycée, though. She saw them, sometimes, in the hallways or the cafeteria, still attached at the hips. That hurt more than she wanted to admit, the first few months.)
Her first year of lycée had been a blessing, though. A pause in the frenzy that was her school life (her life, period). She enjoyed this first, unproblematic year at its fullest. Even became closer with Chloé, the girl becoming a better person (not a nice person, but she wasn’t unnecessarily mean anymore).
She started dating Kagami then, but, between all the secrets Marinette was keeping and Kagami's schedule growing more and more heavy as the Olympics grew closer, they both decided that it was better for them in the long run to split while they were still friends. (And they stayed friends, even when Kagami and her mother moved back to Japan, a couple of months before Gabriel was publicly revealed to be Hawkmoth.)
Alix became like a sister to her in those times, and the only person, beside Tikki, who knew about Jason. She knew almost everything about her, probably even more than Marinette thought.
(Two day after the defeat of Hawkmoth, Alix came to her in her bedroom and gave her two cookies. A big one with “Congrats” written on it, and a smaller one with a cartoon ladybug and just the size of the ones Marinette usually gives Tikki. She didn’t ask anything, but when Marinette asked her when she had found out, she answered that she had guessed at the beginning of lycée.)
But it was her life, so of course it couldn’t last.
For her second year, not only she wasn’t in her only friends’ class, but she was with both Alya and Lila.
But it was fine.
She kept her distance, and they did the same. It helped that most of their professors didn’t really take shit from the students, so Lila’s drama was kept at a minimum. And most of Marinette’s time was spent on hers and Robin’s investigation on Hawkmoth/Gabriel, so she didn’t really invest much in her class’ social hierarchy, and Lila didn’t really feel threatened by her.
When she started her last year, still on the high of finally defeating Hawkmoth, she wasn’t really surprised to end up in Alya and Lila’s class again. ((Red) Robin and her had tried to prove that Lila had worked with Hawkmoth, letting herself be Akumatized voluntarily, but there was no real way to prove that. After all, Ladybug had always been adamant that Akumatized people weren't responsible. Usually.)
Still, she wasn’t prepared for her homeroom’s teacher to be as bad as she ended up being.
Valérie Petit was a tall brunette, with a cheerful attitude that was so false it was painful, and who tried very hard to push her own beliefs on her students. She clearly had favorite students and wasn’t afraid to let it show. And, of course, Lila made herself into the teacher’s pet to end all teacher’s pets, and used that to make Marinette’s life hell once again.
Marinette didn’t know exactly what she did to reignite Lila's hatred of her, but she was betting that it was the class repretentative’s election that did it. Lila had been elected last year, but did a poor job of it, and the class didn’t really change, minus a couple of students. They knew she had been terrible at it. But nobody had wanted to take the place, most because they didn’t want the responsibilities (like Marinette) but some because they didn’t want to hurt Lila’s feelings.
So they decided to elect Marinette. She didn’t even want to be class rep! She wasn’t supposed to have responsibilities this year, beside her commissions!
And if Lila was livid that Marinette got elected (as if it was a popularity test! Most of the class knew nothing of Marinette beside her name), she also clearly understood that Marinette would be glad to be rid of the job. So, of course, she did everything in her power to make her keep it.
That’s how Marinette ended up with the task to come up with propositions for their graduation’s trip.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Marinette? You had something to say to the class, didn’t you?” Mlle Petit asked with an overly cheerful smile, making some of her classmates start to chatter excitedly.
“Ah. Um, yes Mlle,” she grabbed a piece of paper from her notebook and walked toward the front of the class. “I came up with different propositions for destinations, all in different budgets. The cheaper one would be to go to London, we could go for ten days if we do really well in the fund raisings, but only a week would be great too. There is also Rome, and it would be only a little more expen—”
“Um, Mlle Petit?” Alya cut her off, raising her hand like it would excuse the fact that she cut her off. Marinette only blinked at her, wondering what she could have against her now.
“Yes, Alya?” Mlle Petit asked, tilting her head slightly but still smiling.
“Some of us actually thought of a destination for the trip,” she said, sharing an excited smile with a couple of their classmates before putting her arm around Lila’s shoulder. “Lila has been so amazing with us, we thought we could use the trip to make her reconnect with her childhood friend.”
“My… Childhood friend?” Lila asked, and Marinette was probably the only one to see the unease on her face.
“Yes! Damian and you are made for each other! You grew up together, then fell in love as teenagers, it’s like a movie,” Lucie, a brunette with glasses, said with a squeal, an honest to god squeal, making some of their classmates roll their eyes. “And you said that your summer relationship, two years ago, was the most epic one you ever had. It would be so romantic if we could use our graduation trip to reunite the both of you!”
“Yeah,” Michel, a blond guy in the basketball club (or was it the chess club?), said with a smile. “Plus, if we could score a tour of Wayne Enterprise it could help you contact Damian. He is Bruce Wayne’s son, after all.”
“I’m sorry,” Marinette cut in with an incredulous laugh. “Bruce Wayne, as in Gotham’s Bruce Wayne? You-- You want to go to Gotham.”
“Yeah, why do you find that so funny?” Alya asked, frowning when Marinette only laughed harder at the answer.
“Sorry, sorry,” she said, trying to calm her laughter. “It’s just… The lot of you wouldn’t last a day in Gotham, let alone a week!”
“I don’t see why we wouldn’t, we grew up in Hawkmoth’s Paris, Gotham can’t be that bad,” Sophie, a redhead and Lila other best friend (her father worked in the movie industry, she was very useful for Lila now that Gabriel wasn’t an option anymore) told her with disdain.
“Oh. See, that’s how you end up killed in Gotham.”
“Marinette,” Mlle Petit started with a disapproving tone, only to be interrupted by Alya's angry exclamation.
“And how would you know? I doubt you ever put a foot there!”
“Um… Alya, you do know that I grew up there, right?” Marinette asked slowly, her eyebrows raised. Judging by her surprised expression, she hadn’t. (Of course she hadn’t, their friendship had been in a time when she couldn’t mention Gotham without thinking of Jason and breaking down. When she had been able to talk about it again, Alya had long since left her behind.)
“Well… Gotham is a lot safer, now, with Batman and all the Robins. And we have experience with supervillains!”
“Whatever, even if we wanted to go to Gotham, I doubt that our parents would be very happy to let us,” Marinette said, still fighting down her laughter.
“We are all above eighteen,” Pierre said from the back of the class. “And I think it would be fun to go to Gotham for a week!”
“Fun?” she started, but the bell rang before she could add anything.
“Alright everyone,” Mlle Petit said, clapping her hands. “Time is up, so just think about it alright? London, Rome, or Gotham, and we will vote next time. And try to think of ideas for the found raisings we could do!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took two days for Lila to corner her in the school library after that.
“Marinette,” she started with a sweet smile.
“Don’t bother with the sugar, Lila. Why don’t you just jump directly to what you came here to tell me,” Marinette hadn’t bothered to look up from her book before answering.
“We both agree that it would be ridiculous to go to someplace like Gotham when we could spend this time in Rome.”
“Why, Lila, don’t you want to reconnect with your childhood friend, turned summer love, Damian Wayne?” Marinette asked with a mocking smile, finally looking up.
“Don’t play this game with me, Dupain-Cheng,” Lila said with pursed lips. “You need to do something to stop that.”
“But, you see, I haven't thought about going back to Gotham in so long. Looks like this trip is the perfect excuse, and even better if you don’t want to go.”
“Listen, Dupain-Cheng,” she hissed, leaning forward on the table. “If we end up going to Gotham, I swear I’m going to make this trip a living hell for you. Is that clear?”
“Well, Lila,” Marinette told her with a smile, grabbing her stuff and standing up. “I look forward to your reunion with your Damian.” With that, she turned around and got out of the library.
She was going to organize the best trip to Gotham ever. She wondered if there was a way to spend one of those days at Gotham Academy. (Last time she had been there, it was to steal from their students, it would be fun to see if they improved their security.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, Fun Fact people (and story time! You can skip, tho, that’s not really relevant to the story): Mlle Petit is totally inspired by my middle school homeroom teacher! She was a super racist bitch who pushed her beliefs (religious, politic… all of them really) on us, and would be upset if someone had the audacity to not agree with her (guess who didn’t agree with her? Yay!)
It was not helped by the fact that she was my bully’s mother’s best friend, not at all. One time, she called the social services on my parents because of scratches she saw me get, when I fell in front of her. Having her as a teacher for two years had been fun.
WW Lover Jay forever.
ALSO HELL YEAH AMAZONIAN/AMAZONIAN TRAINED MARINETTE
THIS IS AWESOME
I have like FIVE fics currently languishing with chapters in varying states of completion, but NOOOOOOOO I found a new fandom and now I have to write in it...
---->SNIP<----
Marinette's sewing was interrupted by the chorus of Meredith Brooks's "Bitch." Frowning, she stared at her phone, sitting on a table to one side of her workspace. After a moment, she shook her head, and went over to answer it.
"Dáskalos! To what do I owe the honor of this call?" She said, cheerfully. There was a moment's pause and she frowned. "That... is quite the coincidence. Yes, I am willing to speak with him. In fact, I am in Gotham now, though I am currently a guest in a family friend's home. Oui. Oui, c'est vrai. I would ask how you know, but I have my suspicions. I am in a ballroom in the..." She paused, glancing at the nearest window. "In the east wing. Oui. I look forward to seeing you again, Dáskalos."
"May I ask who that was?" Damian asked politely.
"My self-defense instructor. A colleague of hers wishes to speak with me. She should be arriving momentarily." Carefully, she eased her current project, a glam-rock styled top inspired by the current Batman suit, onto one of the dress forms. She spent a moment examining the way it hung, gently tugging this way and that and pinning the seams for adjustment before nodding, apparently satisfied.
"You take self-defense courses?" Damian asked, sounding almost impressed. "What style?"
"It's not a well-known art. It is called Gynaikratos."
Jason, Cass, and Damian all reacted with surprise, leaving Steph confused at the sudden response.
"You're shittin' me," Jason said. "There is no possible way."
As if specifically to prove him wrong, Alfred strode briskly up the hall. "Miss Marinette, Wonder Woman is here to see you. Shall I escort her in, or will you be meeting her in the foyer?"
News, apologies and a surprise
Hi people
You might or not wondering why I haven’t post anything about A universe with you for well over a moth. Well, life happened. I got covid, my whole family, then a dear person to me fell and they have been in the hospital for over a moth now. When I finished chapter five I had somewhat done for chapter six. I thought I could publish the chapter two weeks after the last one but my plans changed. As you can imagine, my mind was not in the right place to write. I made mistakes (including a bad hair cut at two in the morning). I made mistakes in chapter six. I don’t like what I wrote, it lacked soul, so I decided to rewrite the chapter, ()ten pages to waste) so it might take time. Thank you for the people that enjoy and wait for me. You mean a lot.
Here is something that I worked on while I was in a rather not so bad plane in mind. I present to you the first sneak peak for my upcoming series of one shot, the series “A vigilante vampire and an inmortal guardian”
Vampires exists
It should have not been a big deal for marinette when she realized this… but it was.
The guardian of the miraculous was used to face not so normal things and creatures. Aliens in Metropolis? Tikki made first contact with them around three milenios ago. Atlantis was real? Please, Plagg drowned it. Vampires in Gotham?
Well, that was a bit of a shock. In marinettes defense, it was not everyday that she finds a over six feet tall vampire laying unconscious over a pool of his own transparent blood on her way to throwing her rubbish on the back alley of her flat complex.
The how she knew he was a vampire? Well, marinette has done a great research about mythical creatures to seek posible alliances. One of the reasons why it took the miraculous team to defeat hawmock too long was their lack of experience and trusty Allies. It would have been easier if they counted with the Amazonian’s support and wisdom instead of relying on a book that Marinette could barely read. Soo, yeah, looking for mystic alliances would be good for the future. Hence, that made marinette research vampires, the real kind.
Real vampires, like the one in front of her, had transparent blood with an unmistakable sweet aroma due to the lack of iron. This vampire was dripping from a open wound on his stomach. He also had his fangs out ( a clear warning sign to all creature to not come closer, but also as a way to say that he had to rely on his dangerous appearance to keep himself safe while being vulnerable). All that was really impressive given that this was the first time that she actually saw a real vampire in the flesh, quite literally, but what was more impressive was the mask over the vampire’s face.
He was a vigilante.
But not only that, he was one of Batman’s birds, Sparrow. His brown and black suit was covered in cuts from what marinette could asume was a bad night. The vampire looked like if she was about to die, which was impossible because vampires could not die. Still, judging by the severeness of his wounds, it would take time for him to recover even if he had súper enhance healing.
Leaving him there wouldn’t be right… right? Everyone who studied real vampires knew that a vampire must always have a coven in order to survive, so either his people were seconds to minutes to find him or… that was it. There was other option. Even if the bats were not vampires (the cruel irony of that) they were teammates, and even marinette knew in her short and yet traumatic three months of living in Gotham that the bat family always had each other. It was a rule of the city.
Surely, somebody would come did him soon enough… right?
It wasn’t soon enough.
I love your Constantine x Marinette AU! Its definitely a rare pair I love! Could you please do a Constantine x Marinette, where JL know that Constantine is married but they don't know to whom, and they become super shocked at the fact that he's married to Marinette.
I had like five different versions of how I wanted this to go and I literally could not decide for the longest time which I liked more I am so sorry for the wait r i p
John isn’t what one would call a ‘good person’.
In fact, he’s sure there’s a whole dictionary of words to use before anyone ever arrived at ‘good’. Selfish, callous, rude, crass, a right bloody dick—the list goes on. So, the fact that he somehow found himself married (which is a miracle in itself, honestly) to the definition of ‘complete and utter sweetheart’, well… it’s bloody barmy is what it is.
It’s no wonder people are so damn surprised after finding out who the missus is.
Not that, mind you, John gives them a break for their admittedly valid reactions. He’s still an asshole, after all.
“What’s with all the slack jaws?” John drawls with false confusion. “It’s no secret I got hitched last year.”
“I- Well, yes,” Flash says, eyes practically popping out of his mask. “But you never said who it was to. And, I mean, I kinda figured you were lying or playing some sort of joke or something.”
John raises an amused eyebrow. “Sorry to disappoint then, speedy, but I really am off the market.”
“Are we just-” Lantern says a bit hysterically, “are we just ignoring that it was Menagerie who you apparently married? Menagerie. As in, Superman’s sister Menagerie.”
A thought seems to come to him—which John thinks must be a first—and Hal whips around to face Supes.
“Did you know about this?!” he accuses.
Superman blinks at him with that sort of country boy innocence that somehow skipped right over Marinette. “‘Course I knew. Who else was supposed to be the Maid of Honor?”
Lantern’s mouth opens and closes uselessly.
“And the dress looked fantastic on you, Supes,” John compliments, just to see if Lantern’s head will actually explode. “But not as great as it looked on Diana.”
“Diana knew too?” Flash asks, whirling on said amazonian.
“Menagerie is a beloved shield sister of mine. I was honored to support her during her handfasting.”
Flash groans. “Did everyone but me and Hal know?”
The other heroes all share a look before, as one, they answer, “yes.”
T.W.A.A: The Eccedentesiast
This is a one shot I started last night and I finished it at around 2 am because I’m an insomniac. Sadly this isn’t the 10k+ word one shot I was talking about (I’m still writing it aaa) but this one is around 4-5k words long so I hope you enjoy. This is rushed, badly written, badly plotted and badly named.
TW: Dark topics such as sexual assault and suicide is mentioned in this piece of writing.
Paris, the City of Love, what a big misconception that was. If anything, Paris should've been labeled as the City of Misery considering the fact it was haunted by a villain who preyed on negative emotions. No one outside of Paris knew though, they were oblivious to the fact hundreds, thousands even millions had died in the city home to the Eiffel Tower, only to be resurrected and tormented with the memories of their death. It was worse for Marinette though, she had watched all the citizens, her beloved citizens, die before her eyes and she was powerless to help them. Their screams of anguish and cries of pain forever ghosted her nightmares. It wasn't just their blood that she drowned in, she was bullied, abused and betrayed in her civilian form by those she trusted the most.
Her classmates. She thought she could trust them but they left her for someone shinier and newer. They all hurt her, destroyed her hard work, verbally and physically bullied her. Nino and Kim, her childhood friends had turned their backs on her too, even joining the others in causing her physical and emotional pain. Alya, her best friend, had become her main abuser. The reporter stabbed the poor bluenette in the back, figuratively. Lila was the one who did it literally. Lila, the sound of the name itself made Marinette sick, after all, the brunette was the one who did this to her. She made her friends turn their backs on her, she made them abuse her and she only watched with fake crocodile tears and a smug smile when no one was looking. And Adrien, he was the worst of all. When Marinette was younger, Adrien was the embodiment of perfection. But now? All she could see was a spineless coward and a predator.
As Chat Noir, he wouldn't participate in the battles, only flirting with her hero persona. He would whine like a toddler when she rejected his advancements. Even when he did join in the battles, he was useless, ignoring anything that Ladybug would tell him and go straight for the kill which never worked. Chat Noir was incompetent and a sexual harasser. As Adrien, however, he was much more. Just two days ago, he had tried to sexually assault the young bluenette. The blonde had underestimated the girl and she managed to get away but nothing could erase her memory of the event.
The ultimatum Lila had delivered to Marinette when she thirteen seemed over-dramatic and seemingly impossible at the time. Yet three years later, she was at the point of no return. Her classmates, her friends, her teachers, the boy she once loved, her partner, her parents. They all left her. Mayor Bourgeois, fearing for his daughter's safety, had sent Chloe to New York with her mother. Luka was on tour with his father so they could build a better relationship. Kagami had a family affair back in Japan that would last for at least a month. She was truly alone. Her parents had fallen victim to Lila's lies and Marinette overheard them discussing about kicking her out. The only one by her side throughout the whole ordeal was Tikki, her beloved kwami. Even Master Fu had to leave her.
Marinette felt shut out by the rest of the world. Sure, Paris adored Ladybug but it felt different. She was fighting battles alone, she stood as the last survivor, the last protector of Paris. She took that title in stride, or that's what the Parisians thought. In reality, she was hiding behind a mask.
The bluenette had suffered endlessly for years, she was ready to break that cycle of torture. Yesterday, she came to the solid conclusion of who Hawkmoth was, who is accomplices were and what his motive was. Gabriel Agreste was the man behind Paris' torment, Nathalie Sancœr was one of his accomplices and so was Lila Rossi. For his motive, he wanted to bring his wife back. Marinette understood the pain he was in but she wouldn't go to such extreme lengths as he did. Many years ago, Marinette made a friend, one of her very best friends who she fell for. But she never told anyone who he was, where he came from or even the fact that she met someone. The reason behind this was the fact she witnessed his murder. That death, of all she witnessed, was the most heartbreaking. Even when all these years have passed, she never truly got over his death. His green eyes always lingered her mind.
The bluenette let out an anguished sigh, she was on the Eiffel Tower, admiring the city's skyline despite all its obvious flaws under close inspection. Though Marinette had drastically mentally changed, she would always put on the same mask, she would always portray herself as a regular school girl. This was the one time she felt a little peace in her chaotic excuse for a life. Her blue eyes stared off into the distance, focusing on nothing in particular when she heard footsteps coming from behind. In her peripheral vision, Marinette could see the figure of Gabriel Agreste slowly approaching. Not wanting anything to happen, she made her knowledge of her appearance known.
"I never expected to see you somewhere so public, Monsieur Agreste" Her voice remained neutral. Gabriel didn't flinch meaning that he had expected her to sense his arrival, it made the young girl slightly unnerved but she refused to show it.
"The Eiffel Tower holds the greatest inspiration, as a designer yourself I'm sure you are aware" Marinette was used to his cold voice by now, she kept her guard up reminding herself that this was Hawkmoth was standing a few feet away.
She hummed, putting the two miraculous users in a deathly silence, until she decided to break it. "You know, you could've just asked" The older man raised an eyebrow in confusion but Marinette never looked in his direction, "It would've saved a lot of bloodshed"
Gabriel managed to catch up with what she was saying. "Are you implying that I am Hawkmoth?" He didn't sound offended or defensive, merely curious.
"I'm not implying anything" She replied curtly, then turning to face him. "I am merely stating a fact"
The miraculous user turned away from her, focusing his gaze on the city's skyline once more. "What are you going to do with this knowledge?"
The question confused Marinette, surely he would've attacked her or try to get her to remain silent?
He must've noticed her confusion. "Even if you wanted to, you wouldn't say anything"
Marinette turned her full body towards the taller man, she was going to end Hawkmoth's reign as quickly as she could. "I can heal her"
"What?"
"I can heal her" The bluenette repeated. "Emilie"
Gabriel also turned to face her, his usual cold scowl was replaced with a staggered expression. "Y-you can? Even after all I've done as Hawkmoth?"
Her head twisted back to portrait that was Paris. "To end it all, yes I will"
"Then please, follow me and I promise I will give you my miraculous as well as Mayura's. Just, heal my wife please" His tone changed from intrigued to pleading, Marinette could see that he meant every word.
"Oh don't worry... I will"
~~~
"I did it!" Tim's voice echoed in the Batcave.
"Did what replacement?"
"I found Hawkmoth's identity!"
Around three months ago, Wonder Woman had noticed Green Lantern trying to delete a video. She stopped him before he successfully did the task and watched the video herself, calling a meeting to express her anger about the situation. Most were shaken since they had never seen the Amazonian this livid before. She briefly explained how her mother was once a miraculous user and how powerful these magical jewelry could be. Aqua Man also shared his concerns, revealing that the fall of Atlantis was due to the miraculous. They knew the logical decision was to work on this from outside of Paris, the villain preyed on negative emotions and they had been ignoring the Parisians' calls for help for four years. Their sudden appearance would definitely trigger the heroes. So in the last month, they had gathered files of nearly every person in Paris as well as all the necessary information about every akuma attack. It was tiring for the Bats but they trudged through it anyway.
Damian had taken a special interest in the spotted-heroine specifically, without the knowledge of any of his family members. She appeared similar to a female friend he had made quite some time ago, the one who had witnessed an assassination attempt on him. He saddened him to no end knowing that the friend he loved thought he was dead. The green-eyed boy became one hundred percent convinced that this hero was his friend.
One day, Dick had caught him in the Batcave observing a recently taken image of the Ladybug heroine. His older brother thought that Damian was crushing on the lady and began to tease him as others entered the cave.
"Tt, that's not true" the green-eyed boy retaliated.
"If you don't have a crush on Ladybug then why are you staring at an image of her?" Dick added more information necessary so that his younger brothers could join in on teasing his youngest brother.
The Robin vigilante sighed and brought everyone's attention to the screen. "See that?"
"All I see is this little lady Demon Spawn" Jason's smirk was quickly gone when he noticed Damian's serious expression.
"She's alone" he stated simply and before anyone could get a word in, her explained further. "There is usually a team with her"
Everyone seemed to lean closer to the screen.
"She's fighting alone. Her 'partner' doesn't participate in the battles anymore, he stays on the sidelines, observing" He let the others catch up to what he was saying. "The attacks have been lasting a lot longer than usual, Ladybug leads a super hero team correct? Then why is she fighting alone this time."
"They could have all been killed... We have to go to Paris to help the poor girl" Dick turned to Bruce. "Who knows how much longer she'll last alone fighting a psycho butterfly man!"
Bruce's fatherly instincts were screaming at him from merely looking at the photo. "I'll announce to the League that we'll be joining the fight in Paris"
~~~
Gabriel lead Marinette to his office, Nathalie wearily watching. Just as he was about to open the double doors, his assistant collapsed in uncontrollable coughing. Marinette was much faster than the older man so she got to the woman first. The bluenette carefully put Nathalie down on one of the chairs available while putting her hand on where she thought the assistant would where the peacock brooch. The blue-eyed girl could sense the broken miraculous' energy trapped in the woman so she did the only reasonable thing she could at that moment, she extracted the corrupted magic, healing Nathalie almost instantly. Marinette ignored Gabriel's relieved expression and gestured for him to lead her to Emilie.
"When this is over, I wish to have a restraining order against your son"
"May I ask why?"
"..."
"...I understand, I'll make sure to tell Nathalie"
The older man stopped before a painting of his wife, his fingers reached for the painted shapes and pressed on them, revealing an elevator to which he went down in. Following his motion, Marinette placed her hand on the painting and allowed herself to descend down the mansion. It lead her to a repository with a catwalk which lead to a circular platform covered in luscious greenery. In the middle on the platform was a class-covered cryogenic pod which the sleeping body of Emilie Agreste lay. The bluenette carefully made her way to the glass casket, placing her hand on the transparent material when she finally reached her destination. Focusing all her energy, a red light erupted from her finger tips and it soaked into Emilie's skin. Gabriel opened the pod, carefully watching his wife as Marinette took a step back. Suddenly her eyes fluttered open.
"G-Gabriel, what happened?"
The man didn't reply, he simply hugged the woman of his dreams before turning the the young girl.
"I... Thank you Mademoiselle Dupain-Cheng, I can give you the miraculous now if-"
"Ladybug will be at the Eiffel Tower soon, I suggest you give the miraculous to her then"
Gabriel nodded and thanked the girl once more as she left. Before she reached the lift that would lead her back up to Gabriel's office, Marinette turned to face the newly reunited couple.
"Enjoy the happiness in your life, Monsieur Agreste, you never know when it may end"
She then turned to leave, not wanting to here what her former idol had to say. When she reached the main floor of the Agreste Mansion, Marinette was greeted by Nathalie. The bluenette acknowledged the assistant with a nod, meaning that Emilie was awake. The assistant let out a sigh of relief and rushed to Adrien's room, not wanting to be around the blonde boy, Marinette promptly left. Once out of the premises of the mansion, she transformed and waited for Gabriel to return the miraculous. What she didn't realise was that the Justice League would also be coming to pay her a visit.
It felt like an eternity, waiting for the miraculous to be handed back to her but the bluenette was patient. She waited four years for this moment, but she had to share the moment alone. It was bittersweet. Soon enough Gabriel arivied, hastily giving Ladybug both the brooches with apologetic eyes and leaving without a word. The spotted heroine presumed that he wanted to get back to his wife and son, she couldn't blame him. Ladybug reached for her yo-yo teary-eyed, she was going to put both miraculous in her weapon before returning them in the miracle box but she stopped when she heard multiple figures approaching where she was standing.
~~~
Batman and his sons were the ones to go to Paris and alert Ladybug of their findings. The five men found themselves in front of the Eiffel Tower, Tim found out that was were the heroes would return to after their patrol.
"We must tell Ladybug right away" Batman pulled out his grappling hook and flung himself to one of the higher levels, all but Robin followed suit.
The vigilante had a feeling to remain on a lower level. He wanted to be reunited with his long lost friend but he couldn't find the words. Simply, he used his grappling hook to bring him onto one of the beams, low enough so he couldn't be seen but high enough to hear any conversation.
"Greetings, Ladybug" His father's voice echoed through the quiet building.
"Monsieur Batman? Wh-what are you doing here?" Her voice sounded almost exactly as he remembered, of course it sounded deeper and more matured but it had a more desolated edge to it.
~~~
"We apologize for not intervening earlier but we didn't know how well we needed to control our emotions" Red Hood watched as Nightwing brushed a hand through his hair nervously.
"But we can help now!" Red Robin's excited voice came out of nowhere, Ladybug looked at the vigilante in surprise. "We found out Hawkmoth's identity so we can finish this once and-"
Ladybug put a single hand up, a small smile on her face, silencing Red Robin's rambling. "That's very considerate of you, all of you" Her gaze landed on each vigilante one at a time. "But I... have things sorted" She pulled out two brooches from behind her back to show the men before putting the miraculous in her yo-yo. "I appreciate all you've done, truly I do. But can I ask one for one more favor?"
"Of course, what is it?" Nightwing asked, clearly wanting the spotted heroine to be gleeful once more.
"Could you... help the other heroes to help the Parisians to heal?"
"It's the least we can do" Batman replied. "Will you be there too?"
"I'm afraid not" Ladybug turned around and leaned forward on the banister. "You know how Hawkmoth prays on negative emotions, so I've had to deal with my emotions in an unhealthy manor but now... Hawkmoth is no more. I can be free"
"Wh-"
"Thank you, truly" Ladybug jumped up on to railing, facing the group of vigilantes. Her sad smile faded as she stared at the floor.
They didn't even get a chance to process what was happening before it did. A bright light surrounded the young hero and they were forced to close their eyes. As the light died down, Red Hood saw a small bluenette. She looked so weak, so pretty, so... fragile. It hurt the vigilante's heart seeing someone like this being the sole protector of Paris with no one by her side.
"Hey little lady-"
"I'm sorry Tikki"
The girl looked at all the vigilantes slowly, mouthing a 'thank you' before letting herself lean backwards.
Gravity took the Parisian heroine and she fell.
A small creature holding something shiny stared in horror as its owner fell."MARINETTE!" The small creature's anguished scream seemed to bring the vigilantes back to reality.
~~~
"MARINETTE!"
Robin's head shot up, that name was all too familiar. Suddenly, he took note of a figure falling fast from above, her raven hair flowing in the wind. Without giving a second thought, he bounded down the ledge he was on, landing on one of the platforms and had his arms out ready to catch the fallen angel. The bluenette was close enough for Robin to grab her and he pulled her in so that her feet landed on the platform, her body still looming over the edge of the building. His brother and father landed not far from him, bounding over to help the bluenette but Robin took no notice of their presence.
"Why didn't you just let me f...all" The girl's voice trailed off as her eyes widened in recognition, the air in her lungs escaped from her lips. "...d-Damian?"
The two friends took no notice at how the vigilantes behind Robin stiffened. Her eyes developed a watery sheen as the situation began to really hit her. Tears threatened to spill as her lip quivered. Robin pulled her away from the ledge and she jumped into his arms, she was heavily touch-starved. Much to his family's surprise, he didn't push her away. In fact, he hugged her back. They heard what she said next.
"I... I thought you were dead, Dami"
"...why? What made you do this, Malaki?"
They didn't hear what she said next as her mumbling was muffled in Robin's chest. Nightwing walked up to the two first, kneeling down to be eye level with the girl.
"Hey Sunshine... we don't know what you've been through but we're willing to help you though it okay?" The girl looked at his sincere gaze, her eyes were so round with innocence, Nightwing thought he would melt.
"I... thank you, I'm sorry for worrying you when I... jumped" No one failed to notice when Robin ran his fingers through the bluenette's hair.
"Don't apologize Little Lady" Red Hood walked over to where Nightwing was kneeling, sitting next to his older brother. "Hawkbitch forced you to bottle up your emotions, you were just strong for too long."
Marinette looked between the two men, a grateful smile on her face while she wiped the tears of pure happiness running down her cheeks. "Thank you, I- this... this is the nicest I've been treated recently"
"If you don't mind me asking," Batman walked over and Marinette felt slightly intimidated you his presence as well as his tone. The dark knight must have noticed this since he cleared his throat and began talking in a softer manner. "What happened to cause you to go to such extremes? You're obligated to not having to talk about it right away if the subject makes you uncomfortable"
"Well I guess I do have to talk about it eventually..."
Recognising the bluenette's discomfort, Red Robin stepped in. In his palm was the shaken kwami who flew straight for Marinette once the vigilante got close enough. "Since you know Robin's identity, and we already sorta know yours, it's only fair if we tell you who we are, right?" He looked at his two older brothers and then at his adoptive father. "My name's Tim Drake nice to meet you"
Marinette was about to take his offered hand when the vigilante she presumed was Red Hood took it instead, "Jason Todd, Robin's most charming and handsome brother" She giggled at Damian's obvious annoyance.
"Well I'm Richard Grayson, Robin's favourite brother, but you can call me Dick" The vigilante in the suit who comforted her first, introduced himself.
"It's nice to meet all of you"
Batman soon came over as well to aquatint with the young heroine, offering out his hand for a handshake. "Bruce Wayne"
She returned the hand shake and brightly smiled, it blinded nearly all those near. "Thank you, Mr Wayne. Wait..." she turned to face Damian, one of her eyebrows raised. "Wayne?"
"I may have failed to mention that part" To Robin's surprise, Marinette started giggling so he huffed in taken offense.
"Sorry it's just- a girl in my class as been boasting about dating you and about the Wayne Family seeing her as their 'honorary member'. I knew she was lying I just didn't know that I would bump into the people she was lying about"
Bruce hummed. "We'll have to do something about this girl you're talking about. In the meantime, why don't you come back to the hotel with us? You and Damian can catch up" The older man saw the hesitation in her eyes but he also saw the willingness that shine through the most. "If you're living in a bad environment then you do have to escape" His sons nodded along.
"I'll come, can I bring some overnight clothes? It's been a long day..."
"Of course, you go get your belongings and you can meet us at the Grand Paris Hotel"
"I... thank you again" She transformed and headed in the direction of her house, leaving Robin at the mercy of his brothers.
"You like her, Brat" Red Robin spoke up first.
Nightwing pretended to wipe his tears. "Baby Bird's all grown up now"
"That means you can't adopt the little Pixie, don't think I haven't seen the adoption papers"
~~~
When Marinette destransformed on her balcony rooftop, she quickly went inside, packed some clothes as well as some essentials. When she was satisfied with her belongings, she gave a macaron to Tikki before heading downstairs where she was met with two disappointed looking parents.
"Is something wrong?"
"We've decided," Tom began. "We're kicking you out for what you've done to your lovely classmate, Lila"
"We don't recognise the person you've become, Marinette. You are not the daughter we raised" Sabine added
"May I pack my things in the morning?" Marinette inquired, her eyes void of emotion. When her parents nodded, she left the bakery and down to the hotel where Damian was waiting in the lobby. As she approached, he took her bag and intertwined their hands together. She blushed at the contact but leaned into his embrace.
When she entered the hotel room she was greeted by the vigilantes who were now changed and unmasked. The bluenette was welcomed with open arms, she felt the warmth in her heart for the first time since Lila's Tyranny. She briefly explained Lila's lies, what she had done to Marinette and how the bluenette was able to protect Paris. She would've carried on longer if it weren't for the hotel phone ringing. It was the receptionist, saying that someone had asked to see Marinette. Confused, she went down with Damian, Jason followed closely behind since he had grown quite attached to the little fairy. Waiting at the front desk as a woman, Damian and Jason recognised her instantly as Mayura. Damian tried to step in front of his friend but she completely ignored their futile attempts to keep her in reach.
"Ah, Hello Mademoiselle Dupain-Cheng"
"Hello Nathalie, we're you the one who asked for me?"
"Yes, I just need to clarify a few things"
"Go ahead"
"You're request for the restraining order has been fulfilled" the bluenette nodded, waiting for Gabriel's assistant to continue. "May I ask what did he do to make you request for it?"
The two notices how Marinette stiffened. She contemplated before sighing. "Attempted sexual assault. If you look at the camera footage outside of the Louvre from two days ago, seven pm onwards, you'll see your evidence." Marinette turned away from Nathalie and walked back to Damian who, once in range, pulled her in for a hug.
"I'll never let him near you again, Angel"
~~~
The next day, Bruce had shown up with Marinette at her parents' bakery. Upon hearing about the young bluenette being kicked out, he had asked for her permission for him to be her Guardian until she was old enough to live in her own. Marinette accepted his offer. When they had entered the building, her parents had greeted their customers kindly before recognising Marinette. Bruce turned to the young girl next to him and smiled.
"You go pack your things I'll deal with this" She smiled and bounded upstairs, leaving Bruce to talk with the bakery's owners.
"Hello Sir, how may we help you?" Sabine began, wanting to know who this man was.
"I've come to gain guardianship of your daughter, Marinette Dupain-Cheng"
"Why should we give you guardianship?" Tom asked.
"I'm sure you know the liability for child neglect, Mr Dupain" With his words, both adults seemed to turn white. "I will file the necessary and submit it with the court, I'm sure you'll be willing to give your approval"
Both Marinette and the mystery man left, true they were glad that their mistake of a daughter had gone but they wondered who she had gone with.
~~~
Later that afternoon was a charity event which the Waynes were supposed to attend as they were invited by the mayor himself, the plus side was that the Akuma class would also be attending and they had no clue the Wayne Family would be there.
"...And finally I'd like to thank the Wayne Family for joining us this evening" Mayor Bourgeois finished his speech and all heads turned to the table the Waynes and Marinette were sitting on. As his speech was over, a teenage girl with glass and a very pale brunette came over to the table.
"Hello Mr Wayne, My name's Alya and I'm your honorary daughter's best friend and I was hoping-"
"Marinette" Bruce began, cutting off the aspiring reporter. The Alya girl only then seemed to notice that the bluenette was sitting at the table. "Is this girl you're friend?"
The bluenette took one hard look at Alya before shaking her head, "No"
"Marislut what th-"
"It would be appreciated if you did not talk about my honorary daughter and future daughter-in-law on that manner" Both Damian and Marinette turned red, one much more than the other. "In fact we should be leaving" Bruce and the rest of the family got up. "Miss Rossi, I will not tolerate your lies. You will receive a lawsuit for defamation and slander. Have a good evening" They left, leaving a reporter, a liar and a class speechless.
When they reached the hotel room they finished packing up, they would be leaving that night. Marinette made a few phone calls, telling her friends that she would be moving to Gotham. They had their belongs taken to the limo downstairs and had a few snacks before making their way down. In the lobby were many different people around the bluenette's age, she recognised them as her classmates and continued walking beside Damian until Alex came over.
"Marinette... we're sorry. We understand that you probably won't forgive apps but we wrote you letters anyway" the skater girl gave Marinette a pile of enveloped letters, ones she put in her bag straight away.
"Thank you for your apologies but I don't think I can forgive you just yet, goodbye Alix" the bluenette got in the limo and let out a breath she knew she was holding.
Her eyes glanced out the tinted window, she smiled knowing that she was leaving Paris for a better life. A better life with a friends, a better life with a new family. A better life with Damian.
~Bonus~
The harsh blizzard outside was definitely being felt from inside the manor, leaving a cold and tired Marinette on the couch. Damian, noticing his girlfriend's state, went to grab a blanket to cover both Marinette and himself. She snuggled into the green-eyed boy, taking all the warmth she could get, and slowly she drifted off to sleep. Damian too felt drowsy so soon followed his girlfriend into dreamland.
Jason came in a few moments later to find the sleeping couple, he was then reminded by how tired he was so he went on the couch and leaned his back against his youngest brother, himself too falling victim to slumber.
The next person to walk in was Dick, he had just finished training so he was exhausted. But he couldn't help to coo when he came across the scene in front of him. The eldest son then got on the sofa and carefully leaned against Marinette, similar to what Jason had done with Damian. It didn't take long for him to join them in dozing off.
Tim arrived with a big cup of freshly made coffee, one which he was about to drink until he noticed his siblings all curled up on the couch sleeping. The co-CEO went back to the kitchen, left his cup of coffee then went to grab a blanket to join his family. Wrapping himself in a blanket burrito, Tim placed himself on the floor pressed up against sofa.
When Bruce returned home safely, he went to the main living room to see his children, and his future in-law who was basically his own by now, sleeping soundly with the TV still running. Reaching for the remote, he turned the television off and grabbed his phone to take a picture. He planned on printing it out and having it framed in his study. Bruce sat on one of the armchairs, taking a book to read. If there was peace in the house, he might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
I need to be stopped
BUT UNTIL THEN!
Guys what if Marinette was like Kon. Not in the being a Supers sense but in being a Clone sense!
Cadmus wishes to make clones of the heroes so that if the heroes go bad then they can simply replace them right?
So why not a clone of Wonder Woman?
But like with Superman there needs to be a separate genome to help stabilize the cells and shit.
And what better candidate then the first Super Heroine?
Like what if Bridgette was Ladybug back in the day and the first recorded Superhero, her and Chat Noir (Felix) and Cadmus managed to get a hold of her DNA (Most likely robbing her tomb in Paris. Cause she died in the final battle)
And the Hair they used was so infused with Creation magic even after all this time because Bridgette was a true ladybug and even after giving back the Miraculous she still has the magic coursing through her very cells. And magic takes a long time to fade.
Mix this with freakin Diana’s badass amazonian DNA and I bet it would be epic.
Just a thought.
Sabine had been elated when Diana had returned and told them that they were allowed to venture into the outside world. It had been so long since she had seen anything besides Themyscira, Sabine had forgotten what it looked like.
When she got out, Sabine was entranced by the bright lights and tall buildings. Mankind certainly didn’t have these when Themyscira closed its borders. So she set off to one of the bright cities, named Paris, and met a kind baker with whom she was taken. Now that she was off the island, she had lost her immortality and could age with her new husband. He didn’t find out about her origins for quite a while.
They had a baby, Marinette. When she was born, she displayed no outward signs of advanced aging or immortality, though she could almost immediately walk and talk, which baffled most adults around her. After these occurrences, she aged as any baby in the world would.
Marinette was a lively girl, seeming to inherit her mother’s Amazonian strength and dexterity. Since she was young, her mother trained her in hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship so she may learn the Amazonian way. Sabine was a little disappointed that her daughter didn’t inherit her agility from the way Marinette was always tripping over herself in the bakery, but there was nothing she could do about it; just train Marinette’s regular agility so she has better control over her balance.
Love at the Louvre
The ears on top of her head twitched as she peered down at the artifacts in the museum. She smiled softly. It wasn't her habit to steal locally, especially from the Louvre, and not right before she was due to start helping curate an incoming exhibition. She instead preferred to steal while she was abroad or travelling short distances specifically to grab what caught her eye, but this was too good to pass up, and she didn't want to wait. If all went well she could pass the buck off to someone else, the soon-to-be missing artifact getting chalked up to a clerical error or something of the manner. Stolen before anyone could notice, relieving any heat that may be on her if it was taken after it had been handled and properly catalogued.
She quickly made her way into the museum, confident in where she was going and careful not to trip any alarms as she moved. She gingerly opened the case and reached in to grab necklace she was after, nearly jumping as she heard a voice speak up from behind her.
“I don’t believe that belongs to you.”
"Wonder Woman. I have to say I was not expecting to see you here," she greeted as she turned, dropping into a bow. “It is an honor to meet the beautiful Amazonian warrior herself. Kitty Noire at your service.”
"I was unaware the Miraculi were back in circulation," she replied, looking at her.
"Were in circulation," she corrected. Five years ago. This is more of a part time thing now."
"You shouldn't use such a powerful item for such frivolous uses.”
Marinette laughed, and gave her a grin, "No harm is coming from any of this and if it's any comfort, Plagg is really enjoying himself. You don’t have to worry about the balance or anything either, I know how to keep an eye on everything."
She eyed the hero as she gently pocketed the necklace she’d grabbed, hand moving to rest on her baton.”I don’t suppose I could convince you to just let me go?”
“Not that easily.”
“Well it was worth a try,” she said before charging at Wonder Woman, ducking under her arm, grabbing it to twist herself around, swinging herself onto her back. Wonder Woman managed to throw her off her back. She had barely managed to grab her baton when she found a faintly glowing golden rope wrap around it and pulled.
Kitty Noire strengthened her grip on the baton and dug her heels in before she grabbed the end of the lasso and yanked, pulling Wonder Woman towards her, flinging her bataon off to the distance, as she tried to wrench it from the Amazonian’s grip. “Sorry about this,” she said leaning down over her, before stepping on the inside of the wrist twisting her foot slightly to try and get the muscles to release, as she ripped the lasso from her hand.
Kitty Noire picked up her baton and put it back, before twirling it around slightly and throwing it, catching it on a beam and using it to pull herself up, laughing at the familiar sensation, before dropping it back down to Wonder Woman.
“It was an honor to meet you. Maybe next time you’ll have some better luck,” she said before making her way out the top of the museum and running out and over Paris’ rooftops.
--------------------
"Diana Prince, Marinette Dupain-Cheng,” Diana looked up from where she was working as the museum director and a young woman came in. “You two will be working together to help put this exhibit together. I'll leave you two to get acquainted and start working," the museum head said, before quickly leaving them alone.
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Dupain-Cheng" Diana greeted, holding a hand out as she took in the newcomer.
"It's nice to meet you as well, Miss Prince. Please call me Marinette," she greeted, shaking her hand.
"Only if you will call me Diana."
"I think that can be arranged," she replied, smiling as she moved past Diana to look over the photos she had scattered over the table of the incoming pieces. "These are beautiful," she muttered, looking over the pictures. "These are all the pieces that we'll be working with?"
"Yes. I was planning to grab some lunch before going to look at them in person, if you would like to join me."
"I would love to. I know the best place in Paris, if you don't mind a short walk."
"Not at all."
“Great! It’s my parent’s bakery, but all of my friends will tell you it’s amazing,” she told her as she led the way outside and down the road. The two talked, getting to know each other better and what they did for the museum.
"I design mostly, but I did end up really enjoying my fashion history courses in college and got a degree to focus on that part of fashion as well. So every now and then Mr. Kubdel will ask me to assist with an exhibit or piece here and there," Marinette told her, as she opened the door to the bakery for Diana with a smile.
Diana paused as she caught the light reflecting off the ring Marinette wore, studying for a moment, before glancing back up at Marinette, and giving a soft smile.
"That is a beautiful ring. May I ask where you got it?"
Marinette startled, looking over at her, twisting the ring as she gave a small, tight smile. "Oh. It was a gift from an old teacher of mine. He gave me an old jewelry box full of his heirlooms before he moved away."
Diana studied the young woman in front of her. If she’d been given a box, that must make her the next guardian. But one so young, and a thief at that, she questioned what the previous guardian had been thinking. Though Marinette had seemed nothing less than kind and friendly, someone she wouldn’t mind getting to know much better as they worked. She was definitely the thief she’d found in the Louvre last night, Kitty Noire, Diana had no doubt about that.
So what do you like to do at night?”
“If I’m not working I love to sit on top of the roof tops and watch the stars. The higher and further away from people the better. It’s nice to get moments of silence. What about you?”
“A good book. Maybe take myself on a date every once and a while.”
“Well- If you’d ever like any company on one of those dates, I’d love to accompany you,” Marinette said, before she seemed to realize what she’d said and turned beet red.
“Are you asking me out on a date?” she asked with a slight laugh in her voice as Marinette buried her face in her arms.
“You can forget that ever happened if you want. I’m so sorry that just came out and if I made you uncomfortable I really didn’t mean to. I’m so sorry.”
“No! No. I’d love that. Are you free on Friday?”
Marinette looked up and stared at her for a moment blinking. “Yes! I am. I’d love that. Dinner?”
“Sounds amazing.”
Marinette grinned at her. “Well now I have absolutely embarrassed myself successfully, I’m dying to get my hands on some of those old pieces. Shall we?”
Diana couldn’t help the small grin on her face as Marinette offered her arm like an older gentleman would have. She took it and nodded. “We shall.”
Marinette bade a quick goodbye to her parents as they left, opening the door once more for Diana. Diana looked over at the shorter woman with a small smile. She’d have to keep an eye on her, but no one ever said she couldn’t get to know her better as well.
--------------------
“Hello, Princess,” a voice called from above.
“Princess?” she asked, looking up to find Kitty Noire, Marinette, perched above her.
“You are the Amazonian princess, are you not? And it’s much easier than Wonder Woman, though I can come up with a new nickname if you prefer.”
“Come back to return what you have stolen?”
“No. Not at all. Missed a piece last night, when I was so rudely interrupted. Though I do wonder what Wonder Woman was doing here already. Hoping to catch the one that got away?”
She didn’t answer, keeping one eye on her.
“Cat got your tongue? Did I manage to fluster the Amazon?” she asked moving closer towards her, until she was looking down, meeting curious blue eyes that shone out from behind the mask. She tried to ignore the blush that was fighting it’s way on her cheeks as Marinette grinned and gave a soft laugh, backing up a half step. “So I did. Well this just got a bit more interesting,” she murmured. “But I do need to take my leave now so if you’ll excuse me-”
“Marinette!”
She froze, turning back around, the ears atop her head flattening as she looked at Wonder Woman. “And here I thought Batman was the detective of the Justice League. Looks like he may have to give up his mantle. Congratulations on being the first one to figure out who I am despite the Miraculous’ Magic.”
“It helps knowing what to look for.”
“Well let's see if I can take an educated guess. Knowledge of the Miraculous, beautiful, already at the Louvre, and knows who I am,” Kitty Noire said softly as studied her, before laughing. “Hello Diana. I think your disguise might need some help.”
“You’d be surprised how little people figure it out.”
Marinette smiled before she turned red. “I completely embarrassed myself in front of Wonder Woman today. OH gods. I asked Wonder Woman on a date,” she muttered, glancing over at her. “I asked the woman I’ve had a bit of a crush on for ages out today and I didn’t even know it. Oh gods. And I’ve fought her. I completely understand if you want to cut ties and call of our date, I’ll lay low while I’m in Paris, and you won’t have to see me outside of-”
Diana cut her off, gently cupping her face and catching her lips with hers, before pulling away slightly, for Marinette to lean forward, pulling her in for a second kiss, the two holding each other there for a moment before separating.
“I’d still like that date on Friday, if you’re up for it,” she whispered.
Marinette smiled. “I’d love that.”
