pranking ghost was a dangerous game so you’d stick to small things like moving everything on his desk one inch to the right

everything BUT his stapler 

 and everyone else thinks this prank is stupid, but que ghost ABSOLUTELY losing it

like him drenched in sweat after training, entering his office and stopping completely once he sees his desk. squinting at the perfect change

it was subtle. but enough to have his eye twitching

he knew it was you. you were the only other person with a key to his office. but he gave you one warning once you mentioned pranks a week ago 

he said he wouldn’t start the prank war, but he’d end it

so now he knows you're aiming for a prank war, and he is on the lookout, overly careful and cautious

honestly it takes you another week to make another move

ghost made a pot of coffee, pouring it into his favourite mug (you gave him a skull one :,) before he's called away to talk to soap

and he'll give you credit, you did it all in seconds, very covert, and quiet, but he saw it

he watched you pour salt instead of sugar into his coffee and he choked on a laugh

this was going to be good

he waited for you to scatter away and sit at a table nearest to the door, saying goodbye to soap before reaching his tainted coffee

and you watched so closely as he picked up the mug and happily sipped at it

your jaw dropped as you watched him down the black coffee topped with an obscene amount of salt

he turned to you, the light in his eyes making it clear he was smiling as he lowered the balaclava again

“this pot came out super good, wanna try?” 

you know you're caught, heart racing and palms sweating but you just sigh, and give a weak nod

better to get it over with

he hands you the mug, and a silly part of you is almost convinced you messed up the prank, that maybe it truly was sugar and not salt

but one sip had you choking and sputtering coffee all over the table as ghost laughed deeply

after the slew of swears and coughs, you confess to your crime

he just laughed, leaning back in the chair across from you 

“i know, kid. just messing with you.” and the warmth in his eyes and in his voice dims as he leans towards you

“touch my coffee again and I'll make you regret it, private.” 

you nod hard and fast, wiping coffee off your flushed face

he had certainly ended the prank war

he was easy to prank honestly 

but he always returned fire with something much worse

one day where task force 141 were marked to be on ‘standby’ (still on mission but with no clear objective) you get overly bored

bored and very hot

the air conditioning had crapped out a week ago and now it was 40 degrees, a dry heat

you're sweating, fanning yourself as you organize the rec room closet, dusting off your flowy dress that you heaved from the bottom of your bag

(again you’re bored)

but you come across a gold mine in the task riddled with spiders and cloying dust

a sealed package of 200 water balloons

you drop every pretence of organizing and practically sprint outside with an empty blue bucket, beside you-laughing softly (no one really questioned it-they were all getting a little stir crazy)

rounding the building you found the hose and started building your army of watery, latex covered death traps

you would absolutely pelt johnny with them after he came back from his run

he might even thank you, honestly, the water was nice and cold

instinct even had your sticking your face under the cold silky spray before you even considered using your procured prank materials

a half hour of slippery hands and muttered curses ends as you tie off the last one, crouching near a bush by the dorms and wait 

on mission you were a stealth operative, you had to have patience, but you were also a restless and heat exhausted person currently

so soap got one step around the corner before you threw a red water balloon at him, a direct hit

it slapped against his chest on his gray tank top, leaving a wet mark, but it simply fell to the ground

only breaking once it hit tarmac

you stand, a blue one in your grasp and hurl it at him trying again

all whilst soap tries to talk around his laughter “why you attackin’ me lass?” 

the same thing happens and you sigh, rolling your eyes, stepping out from behind the shrubby bush and collapsing on the hot tarmac, defeated and burning as the sun beat down on you 

thankfully a very sweaty and beautiful soap blocked the sun from your eyes as he stood over you 

“a solid try.” he sighed, holding a hand out to you

“thought they would break.” you whispered, cheeks burning, wiping the cold water from the balloons from your hands all over your heated cheeks

“figured that.” his scottish accent thick as he leaned down

“should use those as condoms.” you joke, gesturing back at the bucket. eyes firmly closed despite the tall shadow he gave you

he just laughs, suddenly pulling you up, and dusting off the sides of your dress. 

“if only your parents used them.” he quipped

que you hitting this man and him laughing, weakly dodging the blows, but failing to pin your arms to your sides

and as the sun burns down around you, finally setting, in a layer of peach hued gold, the weather is forgotten

the touch of him enough to handle the embarrassment of a failed prank

you had been dorm mates with soap and ghost for an age on base

It was nice and you were all close

truthfully it had once awkward and tense, you spent most time training to stay out of their space

but after saving each others asses many times, it was now warm and cozy

it was truly a home for you all away from your home countries

a stable place of safety and no judgment

like you and soap shared body wash (his smelled so good) 

and simon felt safe enough to remove his mask around you, but you still made it a point to turn away whenever he did (just in case)

no matter how much he assured you that he trusted you 

anyways now you were here, a lack of energy having led you to avoiding doing laundry on your only off day this week (today)

so the only sleeping clothes you had was a soft silk slip your mother snuck into your pack before your deployment once she heard you would be again rooming with the ‘beautiful and tall gentlemen who were very polite to her over the phone’

It was a deep green, a nice emerald shade that made your scarred skin look lovely

with a bright white lace trim along the v line neckline and the hem and slit driven up the right thigh

you figured to aim for a joke instead of letting it be awkward when they came in

apart of you wanted them to see you out of your casuals, your uniform, something that showed off the pillowy curves and muscles you worked hard to maintain

so here you were, on ghost’s bed, on your left hip, your hand propping your head up as you posed, hearing footsteps get closer and closer, your heartbeat echoing the sound

soap comes in first, his blue eyes going wide as he sees you, the long lines of your lotioned legs and the soft silk hugging your waist

he whistled a low and deep tone that had you laughing, nearly falling out of the pose as ghost came in behind him before stilling

“you’re in my bed.” he says, british accent thick, raspy

“yeah? come join me. there's plenty of room.” you coo, voice a low purr you barely recognize, “for both of you.” you say, looking over to soap, who's jaw is currently on the concrete floor

then you're moving up and throwing your legs over the side of the bed, leaning back on your hands, chest arching softly

it was a joke, truly, but everything was so hot in the room now, so still-buzzing

you barely get to blink before johnny is throwing off his tactical vest and stripping off his boots

ghost joins him as you choke on a breath, words failing you in any other way than mumbled jumbles of sounds that only translate that you're confused and flustered

when they're half dressed they walk to the bed

these tall and horribly deadly men falling to their knees on either side of you as your heart beats so hard you're scared it will shoot out of your chest, ripping past your ribs

“i-i was joking.” you stutter, body flushing with waves of heat, swallowing hard 

and its ghost that leans in, stealing a quick look over to soap before placing a gloved hand on your cheek. “doesn’t have to be.”

So I finally experienced Smiling Friends after only having the posts you share as a framework to prepare me, and it lead to some interesting results. 1: I've only seen images, never video, so I had no idea Pim had an accent. 2: I was awaiting sexual tension between Charlie and Pim but was blindsided by how Charlie is clearly attracted to like /every other/ guy in the show. 3: It's an absolutely incredible show and your posts about it keep the excitement up for me wanting more

I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to this ask lmao, I saw it and planned on answering it later and then forgot about it until I just checked now. Sorry about that! Anyways, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!! It's one of my current favorites for sure! It makes me super happy to know that me totally dorking out about it on main is what made you want to check it out lol! Pim is my favorite character and I LOVE how Michael Cusak plays him! His delivery always sounds so genuine and adds that extra layer of sweetness to him! (Plus, I'm one of those people who thinks accents are cute on any scale tbh) I also love the running gag that Charlie is the chubby pessimistic "just-some-guy" kind of character, and HE'S the one all the characters blatantly want a piece of. Gotta be one of my Favorite Things™ And yeah yeah it IS an incredible show! I'm glad you checked it out! The somehow perfectly balanced mix of extremely surreal situations and visuals paired alongside insanely natural sounding dialogue truly makes it a modern cinematic masterpiece in my opinion.

Why do the FEH devs insist on ignoring Nabatean lore so much?

I recently had a surprisingly cordial discussion on redshit with someone about the "nabateans = colonisers" take, and one of the main points raised was that the game was purposedly foggy around Nabateans/Sothis/their story because it would obviously favor a certain narrative (and thus make another narrative look, uh, not that marketable anymore).

To be honest, we still ended up with a product that had a lead go "this race and its blood* is the reason why the world sucks" and yet that lead is still marketable enough to have raunchy cipher cards and 5 FEH alts, so I actually wonder if, while pissing on that lore had that purpose, it was ultimately pointless since Supreme Leader can still sell goodies despite her incarnation in FE16.

And not only Supreme Leader - but the entirety of WC where we basically have 70% of the cast crying/complaining about their "mixed blood" or lack of and basically adding their 10 cents to the "this race and its blood is the reason why the world sucks".

I mean, can you imagine Sylvain selling any goodies and alts if Flayn replied to his "wah wah people only are kind to me and want to fuck me because I have Nabatean blood :(" by some uncharacteristic "good for you, I have to hide my ears, had to dye my hair, have to lie about my family because if the truth is found out about my identity, I will be hunted and vivisected like an animal and harvested for parts by people who call my kin abominations - just like what happens in the game where the same people who call my kin "abominations" ally with a classmate who calls me a creature and pretends I am incapable of human feelings based on my race".

FE Fodlan's main selling point is its cast of students, for various reasons, but even if I tried to kid myself, Nopes and FEH made it clears : students are the main selling point.

If you spare more time and attention to the Nabatean plot/lore, the students either grow from "likeable" to "despicable" or worse, you won't gaf about them because yeah sure, Hilda might be upset because people expect things from her due to her crust, but it would feel like a "peanut" compared to Seteth's irrational (granted, it's not so irrational since GW exists) fear that Flayn's newest friends would dissect her if they learnt she was a Nabatean, and being conflicted by finally letting her have human friends and form bonds she crave, or protect her due to the trauma from the genocide of their species.

Don't get me wrong, I love peanuts, I mean, not everyone can have a tragik of loaded backstory!

And yet, given how this verse's DNA is "can you fight against the red emperor who uwus about you", they had to add copious amounts of Earl Grey to their games so there's no clear-cut factions :

The "Your alien blood and its influence on the world corrupted it, so I want to reform it under my command" vs "I don't want to die and you oppose me due to my race and side with the people who genocided my kin"

is turned to :

"Your alien blood Crests and its your church's influence on the world corrupted it, so I want to reform it under my command"

"I don't want to die and you oppose me due to my race and side with the people who genocided my kin"

Sprinkle with the cast's hammering here and there that the "reforms" might be needed - but never develop on what they are - and add a few baseless and groundless takes as a toping (basically everything Claude says about tolerance and the general "isolationism/foreign policy" stuff) and you get FE Fodlan where the Red Emperor's war isn't seen as the catastrophe it is in the other entries from the series!

Now, for FEH...

FWIW, the F!F!Billy's trailer had them try to explain that Sothis was a bit pissed about her slaughtered/massacred children when Nopes never gave any reason about why she was pissed - maybe on Billy's behalf bcs Jerry's dead, but come on, she would indeed deserve the medal of the worst parent in the franchise if that was the case, since Billy can murder her daughter without Sothis taking over ! - but given that they cannot write/go against the source game those characters are from.

They tried a bit, with B!Supreme Leader and Hegemongard's FB, but then it stopped (because she had no "new unit" released since then lol) and I can understand why : Hegemongard came out before the Supreme Emblem, and Hegemongard hates dragons who are seen/perceived as gods by some of their human followers. Come FE17, and now Supreme Emblem accepts Alear because they are "one of the good ones". We can come up with HCs and details and talk about what are emblems or if Hegemongard's views were only hers at the end of AM all day long... But imo, Doylist wise, it still feels it's a retcon because the devs from the main games tried to scrap and remove the most "controversial" traits she had.

For the other characters... Well, you see what Marianne is in FEH (but even in her base games), she's one of the few characters who reacts - in a way - to the partial history about relics and demonic beasts and all... only to give sad uwus to Maurice.

FE16 (and Nopes) refused to have any "student" character react to the Nabatean lore/reveal, about what are relics and all. There are no lines, Claude shared some knowledge in the explore section of VW's last chapter, but we don't have anyone muse or think or even talk about what are relics, what are crests, and what kind of fuckery their ancestors or the ancient humans of Fodlan did.

With that in mind, FEH can't do much : either they write Marianne in a retcon-y way like what happened for Hegemongard (and they're not afraid to piss on characterisation, look at Lyon!), or they flanderise her "character" and develop her around 3 lines she had in the game in her paralogue, and continue to give sad uwus about Momo when he was at best a guy who slaughtered and murdered so much that he abused the Nabatean turned into a relic to the point where he turned in a demonic beast even if he had a matching crest, or at worst, had been part of Nemesis's piñata party in Zanado and was something of a genocider.

Tldr :

Why FE Fodlan never gaf about Nabateans : earl grey + the marketable cast has to stay marketable and you can't sell peanuts at the same price you'd sell swordfish

Why FEH dgaf about Nabatean lore : they can't afford to retcon characters + they have to sell peanut alts with the same seasoning they had in their base game.

For what it's worth though, I think FEH is more daring than the base game(s) given how they gave more lines and screentime to Rhea - through her different alts - than GW. And they even designed her Halloween!alt's lines to piss on some of Claude's assertions, while the various FB involving members of the church also - indirectly - reply to some accusations thrown their way in FE16 when, FE16, never gave them an opportunity or lines to explain that those takes were full of dung.

It's highly debatable, especially given what she and Hubert throw to Billy in CF - but even if she doesn't, Doylist wise we still have a character who, knowingly or not, says "this race and its blood* is the reason why the world sucks" and who is never called out on her prejudice. That's more of an issue regarding the general writing though, she has to be a red emperor and took pages from Ashnard's book, and yet, the player must still feel bad and want to romance her, so her mindest/goal cannot be looked at too closely, because, I guess, even the devs thought it would be difficult to romance her (thus sell goodies!) if more light was shed on the "blood from this race corrupts our people" schtick -> which in turn would also make characters whose backstory and gimmick rely on "crying about crests" be way less likeable, thus marketable and able to sell goodies.

Do you think Edelgard perceives herself as a victim? I’ve been thinking and I can’t decide myself, on one hand she clearly hates the idea of people being victims or helpless, and constantly reframes the victims of the war as “necessary sacrifices” instead of, y’know, tragic causalities of a war she started. She plays up her sad backstory to try to get Byleth to join with her in WC, but then she does all these things to concentrate as much power as possible on herself. On the other (other) hand, she pushes the culpability of the war on everyone except herself, and has trouble taking accountability. She’s obsessed with controlling everything but she doesn’t want to be blamed for the problems she’s created. What do you think?

I find Supreme Leader hard to write because of this, but in a way, I believe that yes, she does.

However, for all the flak Faerghus gets for "ToXiC mAsCuLiNiTy" and "Chivalry BaD", there's something very toxic with the way some Adrestian victims (often women... blame the writers I guess?) deal with their abuse.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on Doro because I already typed a lot about her, but while she still sees herself as a victim from what she endured and suffered in her childhood, she adopted the toxic mindset of "this suffering is a thing of the past and I grew from that/beyond that to become the person I am now" - which we can also see in Manu who suffered from, roughly, the same traumas.

Petra also follows this pattern, being a hostage and treated like shit, but she grow "beyond" her status of a victim to become the strong person she projects and believes she is - it's only out of House that she realises more accutely her status within the Empire, the reality of her situation and, in Houses, refuses vassalage to Adrestia to make her country independent without having to "ask the Emperor".

It's the same pattern : "I was a victim" but "I became strong" so "I am not a victim anymore, this is something of the past".

Applied to Supreme Leader...

Well, trying to ignore the Agarthans and her dad's own infuence on her character (which is kind of hard, since the games try their hardest to make Agarthans responsible for everything BaD and we're not clear on how much they had an influence on her), I think Supreme Leader believes she was a "victim" of abuse.

But - through further abuse and surviving said abuse - she became strong* enough to "not be a victim anymore".

Which is why her line of "if the weak remain weak it's their fault" feels like it echoes part of her mindset : she was a victim but became strong enough, maybe by hardening her own feelings to become "strong", so she is not the same helpless "victim" she once was.

If she managed to do that, then everyone can do the same.

As for the "necessary sacrifices", since early 2019 someone theorised that "the people" she pretends the fight for as seen as some general "concept", much like the "greater good". So if some people are sacrificed, it's for her ideals - the goal and aim of her newfound strength - , and it piles on her drive, she must realise them otherwise those people would have died (and she would have suffered) for nothing.

However, despite acknowledging her past self as a victim, and because she's now "strong", she's not above using her past trauma (but actually, still present! Remember the rat scene?) to reach her goals, because, at her core, Supreme Leader is soemone who is very determined. Maybe it's her only drive to grow beyond the trauma, or her own illusions, or a mix of everything, but AM made it clear, Supreme Leader is not above, well, using herself if it means seeing her goals come to fruition : unlike Lobotogard from AG, AM!Supreme Leader willingly transforms in Hegemongard.

This is the cost she's willing to pay, so while the memes about Lord Farqaad were on spot, I still think that Supreme Leader is ultimately willing to sacrifice** herself for her goal (but only when there's no other way to ensure her future will come to fruition, and in a way, I guess she thought she would survive the Hegemon transformation, jury's out on what she meant to do in AM's finale, but imo, she still tried, even beaten and battered as she was, to claim Dimi's head).

Ultimately I think everything's a bit muddled by the fact that, as @fantasyinvader pointed out, Supreme Leader is a liar and knows the importance of maintening good PR.

She lies and manipulates the truth to reach her goals (which again, is a red flag when CF claims to want to restore the "distorted history" of Fodlan!) and for all the flak I give them, the devs managed to scrap enough material to give us a peek in Adrestia's mindset (or at least its top nobles), they're not people who self reflect, they are salty because they aren't ruling the world anymore, and they feel like they are better than the rest of Fodlan.

Put everything in the mixer, and you indeed have Supreme Leader (but also her court, especially Ferdie in SB who dares to say, as he is invading and trouncing people who don't really like and accept the idea of being invaded, that the fear those people feel are only in their mind, or something like that? Like, dude, you're rolling over their people and country, of course they'll fear and hate you!) giving her weird rhetoric lines (why are people opposing me if they are going to die?), victim blaming (something Treehouse swallowed like honey, if their lolcalisation is anything to go by, remember, it's Rhea's fault for not offering her head on a platter that is the reason why the War continues in CF!) and so on.

IDK if the devs wanted to bank that much on the Dany parallel with her "if I look back i am lost", but again, I don't know if her drive to make a "better Fodlan" is motivated by her trauma, Adrestian revanchism, Ionius telling her dumb things or Agarthans agarthaning, but her goal and vision are everything to Supreme Leader.

So she will do anythign to see them realised, even if it means sacrificing her people, starting a war, tweaking "the truth" or using her own trauma to motivate and recruit powerful people who might assist her with her goals.

To reply to your question, IMO she sees herself as someone who had once been a victim, but won't let that stop her from reaching her goals, even if it means creating thousands of "hers" in the process, because, in her mind, reaching her goal is more important than anything else.

*I know, she refutes Dimitri's claim that she is "strong" or laughs at it, but imo, it was more in the sense of "I was weak and became strong" so everyone can "become" strong.

**I don't think she wanted to throw away her life, but more something in the lines of "putting my life on the line" or sacrificing her precious (and to see how precious it is, just play CF lol) humanity.
