WHERE THE F*CK IS BAYLAN GOING! WHY DID YOU ABANDONED YOUR PADAWAN!?!? WHAT IS IT WITH THESE NEW AGE (traumatised) MASTERS ABANDONING THEIR PADAWANS!
(looking at you Ahsoka 👀👀 because when she said about Anakin "he was a good master" that was her own acceptance of Anakin but there seemed to be something unsaid hanging in the air.... as in "I wasn't" and she is right)

Aite let’s do this. Here’s my thoughts on the Jedi’s Attachment rule and why it exists:
Attachment and love/affection are two very different things. You can be loving and affectionate without being attached to someone.
The same way, letting go doesn’t mean forgetting. It’s accepting the way things are and that death and loss are a natural part of life. You can’t fight what’s natural. It also doesn’t mean to sit back and just accept things as they are, or why would Jedi fight to protect? To change things and save people?
Love is knowing to put the many over the few. If someone you love is in danger, but there’s also a boatload of civilians, it’s going for the civilians, even if you hate them, despite wanting to save the other. ie. Letting go of your feelings. Not being attached.
So why this rule is such a big deal.
For a Jedi, being *attached* poses a much bigger problem than for the average person (looking at you Anakin Skywalker.) If a normal person can go to extremes either as a result of losing someone or wanting to protect them, think of what a Jedi, who feels things more deeply because of the Force, could do if they can’t let go.
The important thing is Jedi don’t say ‘don’t love.’ They don’t say ‘feel nothing.’ In fact you often hear Obi-wan and others say to trust feelings, instincts and refer to each other affectionately.
Anakin: You’re like a father to me.
Obi-Wan: Then why don’t you *listen.*
(Episode II. Not a reprimand for calling him father-like but asking if that’s how he feels, why doesn’t Anakin listen like a son should.)
What they *do* say is don’t get carried away in positive or negative feelings, as both can lead to impulsive actions with long term consequences. It’s a concept that follows the lines of mindfulness and just being *aware* that they have so much power, they can’t afford to be reckless. Because the damage *will* be long lasting.
They say don’t love someone so much that you’ll do anything for them. They say don’t be *possessive.* Because that’s a *very* dangerous place to go for a normal person, let alone a super powerful being who could leave *chaos* behind. Attachment is refusing to let go. Stopping someone from doing what they love because you’re scared. Love is trusting and accepting things can’t/will change even if you don’t like it, and accepting that when there’s nothing you can do without breaking your moral code.
Jedi grieve. They feel loss. They get angry. They *love.* They just don’t let those feelings overwhelm them to the point of irrationality, accepting, understanding, and releasing them because they’ll do no good in the long run. If emotion overwhelms the brain, the logical part shuts down, and we’ve all seen what force fuelled temper/grief can do.
‘Kanan and Ezra don’t follow the rule.’
On the contrary.
You see Kanan learn to let go of his grief and *attachment* which has been holding him back all this time. In doing so he becomes a Knight and Master. He loves Hera, yes, but he loves unconditionally. Not possessively. He’s fine with Hera going on dangerous missions and accepts that there will be times she’s hurt. That there’s always a possibility she might not come back and he’s gonna have to live with that. He doesn’t try to stop her. He doesn’t fall into a rage if she gets hurt. He accepts it, pain, rage, grief and all, but lets it go so he doesn’t become fearful to the point he won’t let *her* go. He accepts Hera loves the Rebellion and compromises even if he doesn’t like it. Love. Nothing wrong with that in the Jedi Order.
In contrast you have Anakin. When PadmĂ© is in danger he will drop *everything* to go to her, including putting his men and padawan in unnecessary danger to do so. You see his jealousy when Clovis is around. His lack of faith in PadmĂ© despite her assurances. How he won’t back down even if it scares or disturbs her. You see how he *refuses* to take any chances at all with her health to the point of breaking his moral code. This isn’t love anymore. This is attachment, possession. This is what the Jedi forbid.
You see Ezra struggle with letting Sabine go on a dangerous mission and Kanan teaching him that he has to accept the danger, that she might not come back. and how to do it. Telling him to respect her abilities, what she wants to do, and not loving her to the point of stifling her. This is what letting go is. This is what the Jedi teach.
Ezra has to learn to let go of his own grief and accept Kanan’s death. This is what love without attachment means. This is what the rule is. Feeling it. Accepting it. Then letting the emotions go so they don’t control your actions more than your mind does.
Also, anyone can leave the Jedi Order. If they don’t agree, there’s nothing forcing them to stay. Being a Jedi is a religion, a way of life. You can discuss and debate the details, but you don’t get to pick and choose what parts to follow.
You can be a force wielder without being a Jedi. The privileges the Jedi received were because of their belief and the respect that earned.
But more importantly, you can happily leave the order, and the Jedi will still welcome you to come hang out. To chill with your friends and walk about the Temple, train with others and catch up. It’s a community. You don’t suddenly lose all of that because you decided following the Jedi way wasn’t for you.

Most of fandom: it makes more sense if Quinlan is a few years older than Obi-Wan and his creche mates, since his Padawan is several years older than Anakin and knighted before him, and it also ties in neatly with him not existing in the Jedi Apprentice books if he's already doing Padawan things when they happen
Me: uses the not great Legends dates/timeline that says Obi-Wan and Quinlan are the same age because that makes Quinlan a Teen Dad

Fox: They aren't
Bail: ...did you ask if you could take him?
Fox: No, because they would've said no. No one will know, though, because what are they going to do? A DNA-test? I'm his dad, of course he has the same DNA as I do.

STAR WARS: Eleventh Fleet AU
Admiral Karyn Faro
While I was creating concept art of her appearance, the result was art a la a movie poster. I especially like how the cape and blaster turned out.
Maybe I’ll get to the rest of the characters later, if I’m in the mood.

The evening Lothal air was crisp with a slight bite of cold; the fall season was waning away slowly but surely and soon winter would be here. Leaning against the railing on the comm-tower's balcony that she called home with her partner, Ezra Bridger, Sabine glanced absent-mindedly at Capital City, Lothal's shining jewel and capital, lights glowing brightly against the night sky. Grasped In her hand was a half-empty tumbler of some unknown liquor that Hera had brought over for their little celebration party that she simply called "domake". All she had said when asked about its origins was "it was an old family recipe" that consisted of some fermented fruit juice mixed with the hardest alcohol legally available.
(Later, after more prodding, Hera revealed that the name was somewhat of a joke in her family: "domake" being a short-hand phrase for "don't make me drink this". Zeb erupted in raucous laughter after hearing this, almost spilling his drink everywhere.)
The smell when Hera had popped open the jug containing the liquor was not exactly bad as Sabine was expecting, but it certainly smelled a lot and was extremely pungent; her and Ezra's eyes watered something fierce when the aroma reached them. A small sip led to the discovery of an almost overwhelming, yet sinfully sweet taste that burned on the way down, which seemed the opposite of what the smell suggested.
Sabine braced herself against a sudden breeze, turning away from it's chilly bite and caught a glance of the scene inside her home: Jacen, always by his mother's side in all matters, zonked out on the couch in the boneless manner that only the truly young could manage. Hovering over him was Zeb and Chopper, each armed with a different colored marker - they were drawing something clumsily on his face, snickering all the while. Off in a corner was Kallus and Ezra, the latter holding a microphone and singing some tune horribly off-key; both of them had imbibed a ridiculous amount of domake and the results were spectacular. Kallus clapped excitedly, cheering the young Jedi on, swaying to his own internal (and also off-key) beat.
Sabine allowed herself a small smile. It had been several months since Thrawn had been stopped and the Imperials had fled to the Unknown Regions. Things were finally settling down into some new form of normalcy.
And Ezra was back. After so long, he was finally back - and with her.
I should be happy, she thought.
But still . . . the guilt remained, a stubborn shadow that haunted her dreams.
Hera appeared in the doorway, her own tumbler of domake grasped in hand. She stared at Sabine for a moment before asking, "May I join you?"
Sabine stifled the small spike of anxiety that erupted within her chest. It had been sometime since she and Hera had spoken privately. Their relationship had been rocky since the full extent of Sabine's actions was revealed regarding Thrawn's return. It had been Ezra's idea to bring all of them together for this little party, a chance to make amends.
Sabine had agreed - and then proceeded to avoid Hera for most of the night. Until now.
She put on a smile that hopefully appeared sincere. "Sure," she replied casually. "The music not to your taste?"
As if on cue, Ezra's voice came out, belting out a line in the song. Sabine winced; she had heard better singing from a Hutt once. Hera snorted. "Some things never change," she muttered, coming to stand beside Sabine.
"Karaoke nights on the Ghost were always fun," Sabine agreed, fond memories of her stay on the old freighter coming to mind.
Hera sipped at her drink. "I miss those days."
"Me, too."
They stood together, gazing into the distance in silence. Finally, taking another swig for courage, Sabine worked up the courage to speak.
"Are you still angry with me?" she asked quietly.
She couldn't quite work up the nerve to look at Hera, to see her expression. After a long moment, Sabine heard the Twi'lek sigh.
"No," Hera answered. "Not anymore."
Sabine felt the tension slide out of her shoulders. "I see," was all she could say.
"I get it," Hera said. "I really do. Why you did it."
Sabine looked down, watching the tall grass sway in the evening breeze. "I couldn't just leave him, Hera," she said suddenly. The need to explain - to justify her actions bubbled up inside her with surprising strength. and she used it to look at Hera. "I've done that my whole life with people I cared about. But I couldn't with Ezra."
Hera just looked back at Sabine, her expression knowing - and sad. "Yes. You have."
"I did it with Ketsu. With my family. My people. Ahsoka."
Hera took another sip of domake. "And with us. The Spectres."
She flinched at that. It hurt to hear, but it was true. "I had to," she countered. "I made Ezra a promise."
The Twi'lek just gazed at her steadily. "I know. I made Kanan a promise, too."
The name of the fallen Jedi sliced into Sabine's heart like a dagger. All those years of loneliness . . . Hera was going through the same painful loss as she was. Yet Sabine had never reached out, never asked how she was doing because she was so wrapped up in her own misery.
She had always assumed that having Jacen was like a gift; a part of Kanan that she got to keep all to herself. There was a small amount of envy - and resentment - that Sabine had felt about that. Ezra had left her with nothing but a lightsaber and a recording.
Now she realized that maybe Jacen had probably been like a burden sometimes - a constant, living reminder of what had been lost and what could never come back.
They both looked inside the comm-tower at the sleeping form of Jacen, still being drawn upon by Zeb and Chopper.
"Do you know why it never worked out with all those people in your life, Sabine? Why it fell apart with us?" Hera asked pointedly.
She steeled herself. "Why?"
Hera smiled bitterly. "Because it's who you are. And yet, we all loved you anyway."
"And who am I, Hera?"
"To all of us whose name isn't Ezra Bridger? You're the Sabine who leaves."
The wind returned, bitter and shrill with its passing. Sabine let the words fall inside her, cutting at her insides like broken glass.
She swallowed, turning her overflowing eyes downcast. "You hate me," she whispered. "Don't you?"
"No, Sabine," Hera sighed. "I don't. How could I hate you for loving someone so much?"
"It's just - I want to be happy, so bad," Sabine pleaded. "I'm so close. Here and now, with all of you here - and, most of all, with Ezra. After so long. But I feel like everything I've done to get here is constantly hounding me, catching up to me, threatening to take it all away. I've sacrificed so much - "
Hera quirked an eyebrow at her. "You're talking to me? About sacrifice?"
"The different versions of me who left you all - I've given up all of them to get here, don't you understand? Yes, I gave up the map to find Ezra. Yes, I made a deal with Thrawn. I'm still me, but I'm so much less now . . . I left all of those Sabines with you. I had to. To move forward. Like you did with Jacen."
Hera's eyebrows raised in comprehension. "Okay," she said. "I think I get it now."
"They never left, Hera. They still exist, I promise. I know I'll never get to be how I was before - and I'm still figuring out who this new Sabine is. And I'm sorry for that. I'm sorry the whole galaxy paid the price for that."
She was exhausted after letting out all of that, sagging against the balcony railing. But there was a small sense of relief that permeated through the emotional fatigue - it was out. All of the pain, everything she wanted to say.
Hera regarded her patiently for what felt like an eternity. Then she said simply, "What is meant to stay will come back to you."
Sabine craned her neck at the Twi'lek. "What?"
Hera shrugged. "Just a saying. The thing about leaving, Sabine? You can always come back."
She nodded - and then blurted out, "Are we going to be okay, Hera?"
The other woman smiled - not long, but genuine. "Better than okay, kiddo."
Hera leaned forward and gave Sabine a gentle kiss on the forehead. "We're going to be great."
Sabine sniffed, leaning her head against the Twi'lek's shoulder. She had missed her so much - and not just in these past few months.
"I'm sorry," she said again, feeling the tears flow. "I'm so sorry, Hera."
"You came back," Hera replied. "That's all I ever need you to do."
"But who came back?" Sabine asked miserably.
"Silly girl," Hera mocked gently. "Ezra already figured that one out."
"Ezra did?"
"Yeah. Ask him sometime. Anyway, I need to head inside. Jacen's waking up and I think he'll go ballistic on Zeb and Chop if I don't intervene."

~ later ~
With an exhausted groan, Ezra slumped onto the couch. "That was some party," he muttered.
Sabine stood over him and poked at his rosy cheeks. "Got any Jedi techniques for dealing with hangovers in the morning?"
Ezra winced. "Yeah, never got around to asking Kanan for that lesson."
She laughed. "Glad to see there are some things even the all-powerful Jedi can't do."
He grimaced at her, before softening his expression. "Saw you talking with Hera on the balcony."
Sabine went quiet. "Yeah," she said, after a moment. "We spoke for a bit."
His eyes flashed with worry. "It went well?"
She shrugged. "Better than expected."
"That's good," he said, sounding relieved. "I figured it would."
Sabine sat down next to him on the couch, snuggling in close. "We'll be okay, I think."
"Never doubted it," Ezra replied sleepily.
Sabine thought back to her conversation with Hera. "Ezra?" she asked.
"Hmmm?"
"I left a lot of things behind to get here," Sabine said.
He turned his head towards her. "I know," he said. "But you didn't leave me."
She blinked at him.
"You could have, you know. Moved on, like everyone else. Hera had Jacen, Zeb had Kallus - but you, Sabine? You stayed for me, all these years. I can't tell you how much that means to me."
Sabine let his words sink in, filling a hole she was suddenly just aware that existed.
But who came back?
Silly girl. Ezra already figured that one out.
"I'm the Sabine who stayed," she said, under her breath.
Ezra blinked at her. "Eh?"
Sabine gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Nothing. You can keep telling me how grateful you are."
He gave her an amused look. “How much time do you have?”
She grinned at him. “The rest of our lives sound good to you, goober?”
He laughed and pulled her in close. “Deal.”
They fell asleep like that, holding each other close. Sabine’s last thought before sleep took her was how much she wished that it could be like this for the rest of her life.
Staying by Ezra’s side.
