BITCH AND RUN
Tumblr media
Erin shivered in fear as she watched the door of the pink Humvee slide open and with a clop of designer high heeled boots, her best-friend Chloe dropped to the floor of the carpark.
Chloe had changed. She was taller and thinner now, her body crushed into a tight white corset and her once short hair now long and blonde around her smooth perfect shoulders.
Chloe's once innocent face was now prettier - but with a mean bitchy expression as she eyed Erin dismissively. Long acrylic nails shot from her fingertips and she was surrounded by a cloud of Chanel perfume.
Chloe's once flat chest now bulged with Alpha girl tits - growing larger by the day as she continued her evil transformation into the biggest bully at school.
"Oh hey loser," she purred in a sexy voice, "I came for old times sake - but after this you and me are fucking done. I don't need you anymore."
That much was true.
Since Chloe's bitchy step-mom had bought the pink Humvee and insisted Chloe drive it to school - everything had changed.
As soon as her hands had closed around the wheel of the car for the first time, Chloe had become more confident. She was soon hooked on riding in the pink vehicle and her wicked transformation had begun.
In a tank like this, Chloe found she could bully other cars off the road. She began to enjoy the power and attention driving the vehicle gave her. She'd moan as she pushed down the accelerator and felt the vibrations of the car throb through her body.
Hair lengthened, tits grew, bones stretched and the more she drove her new humvee the bitchier she got.
Within days Chloe had ditched her loser friends and was now one of the popular girls. She'd give them lifts in her pink car - giggling as she became more and more like them with every moment.
Soon Chloe had become their leader. The trips in the car almost seem to have brainwashed them into thinking Chloe had always been the Alpha girl.
"Chloe - please. I know it must feel good to be so pretty and popular, but this isn't the real you. You have to break free of the humvees control. It's turned you into a fucking bitch."
Chloe laughed, wiping a fake tear from her perfect cold blue eyes. "Ohhh boo hooo hoooo. I have to break free from being brainwashed... by my car? You really are a fucking loser freak. Even if what you were saying was true... you think I'd give up this power?"
Erin shook her head. "No I guess not. Which is why I have a backup plan."
With a sudden movement, Erin shoved Chloe hard and the other girl gasped as she flew into a concrete pillar hard. Her car keys flew from her fingers and she slid down the pillar winded and disorientated.
Snatching the keys, Erin leapt into the Humvee and quickly engaged the locks.
Standing up in a cold rage, Chloe's lips twisted into a sneer of contempt. "You fucking dweeb - you can't even drive."
Erin's heart raced. It was true, she'd not got her license yet. She had a wild plan of starting the humvee, crashing and destroying it in the carpark. Perhaps that would free her friend.
The interior of the vehicle smelt of expensive perfume and hot girl. Erin put her hands on the wheel. They felt... good... there.
She groaned as her short fingernails lengthened into a hot pink manicure. At the same time her head filled with knowledge and like she had done it a thousand times before, she switched on the ignition.
"No! NO!" screamed Chloe who was looking at her hands in horror. Her sexy nails were gone. "Stop that... you don't know how to drive. That's MY vehicle."
Chlor banged the doors - but they were sealed and the thick armour plating and reinforced glass could not be breached.
Inside the car Erin put the Humvee into drive and she groaned as the vehicle throbbed and growled like a hungry predator.
She felt so fucking powerful sat up here and she looked down at Chloe with contempt as she pushed her foot down onto the accelerator and felt the pink humvee leap forward.
Grabbing the wheel Erin whooped in delight, her eyes shining, as she spun the humvee round the carpark with a screech of tires. Vibrations pulsed up through the seat making her pussy throb and she groaned as she threw back her head and felt her bones crack.
Falling to the floor Chloe groaned and sobbed as her blonde hair began to shorten and her big tits started to shrink. Her body grew shorter... plumper as the power of the humvee flowed into Erin and left her weak and bereft of power.
Meanwhile in the car Erin moaned as her hair turned blonde and her pretty pink lips curved into a wicked smile as she felt tight pink leather flow around her body and make her into a spoiled fucking bitch.
She jammed her six inch pink heels harder onto the accelerator and with a final twist of the wheel pulled up in front of the sobbing, weeping Chloe.
Mmmmh it felt so good to be a bitch. Her shaven pussy was dripping wet and she was already excited about the thought of driving to her boyfriends to get railed. Or maybe she'd fuck his best-friend some more?
Erin was now a popular, spoiled bitch. Everything Chloe had done had now transfered to her. She was the popular bitch now and the car was hers. There was even a license with her name on it inside her pink handbag.
Dropping out of HER car and locking the door - Erin giggled as she loomed over the little loser nerd in front of her.
"Oh like... mmmmh guess this is like MY Humvee now and I'm the Alpha girl. Oh and if you ever try to come near me and my car again, I'll fucking reverse it over you? Got it loser?"
Leaving her threat hanging in the air Erin relaxed back into the driving seat and drove out of the garage to start her new spoiled life...

14 Ways To Live A Healthier Life That Anyone Can Do
Use cast iron, stainless steel, glass, and ceramic cookware/dishes. Use wooden and steel for the utensils. Ditch the plastic and chemicals! They are even finding microplastic in the blood of newborn babies! If you can't afford to switch, switch slowly and buy second-hand! These materials will last through generations!
Buy and cook more fresh, high-quality food. Stop buying premade and processed garbage! The hidden massive amounts of fake sugar and additives in everything is far more damaging than a little bit of extra grass-fed butter or grass-fed meat on your plate. You can find local and even organic produce and meat for cheap at your local freshmarket, mexican grocery store, or asian grocery store. Aldi and Trader Joe's are also healthy yet cheap stores! You will also be surprised how little time it takes to cook versus having something pre-made, and with home-made food you'll have control over exactly how much sugar, fat, etc you have in a given meal. Neither of these are bad in moderation, but the key is moderation!
Prioritize your health and try to create less stress. Brush and floss your teeth, take care of your skin, eat as well as you can, move more, and sleep enough. These are things you should be doing AT MINIMUM to stay healthy. Stress also has a huge impact on health, so it is important to do your best to lower everyday stress and balance your hormones.
Do things that make you feel good. This ties into the less stress philosophy and the rule of everything in moderation, and this looks different for everyone, but generally focus on hobbies and habits that are good for you overall and dont cause addiction or mental health issues. The more things you incorporate into your life that you enjoy, the more you will enjoy your life.
Be aware of your feelings and honor them. No ignoring how you feel deep down! Notice what makes you smile and what makes you sad. Feel it all and try to see what your brain and body are trying to communicate to you about things. Your emotions and thoughts have a purpose, try to see what they're saying.
Try to wear or use more organic materials. Try to use cotton, linen, wool, etc for your clothes, sheets, and more. For jewelry try to use gold, silver, steel, copper, etc. Drop the acrylics and plastics. Invest in your clothing and wear quality materials - your health and wallet will thank you.
Try to kick any drug or alcohol habits. We only have one body in this lifetime and these things WILL catch up to you healthwise. The short-term dopamine is not worth the long-term consequences. Ask anyone who's suffered from their decisions from when they were younger.
Spend more time in nature. Being outside has many health benefits and it does incredible things for mental health. Find a place you can visit outside that brings you peace. Try taking a daily walk.
Learn to set boundaries for yourself. Including towards yourself! If you are pushed past your limits of exhaustion, honor your body and rest. It is okay to have soft, flexible boundaries, or hard boundaries, but they are rules we put in place in regards to ourselves to keep ourselves safe and happy! IE - "If I need sleep I will not keep pushing myself and I will go to sleep" or "I will not put up with being yelled at and I will remove myself from that situation".
Walk as much as you can, while you can. Try to opt out of convenience when possible and walk a little further to the front door of the store or try incorporating a daily walk into your routine. Moderate exercise is great for our health!
Do something daily that will exercise your brain. Whether it is a fun crossword puzzle or just something in your daily life you need to problem solve, do something that is going to flex that brain power and keep those pathways firing. If we don't use our connections, we literally lose them over time!
Talk to at least one person a day for at least 5 minutes. We are social creatures that thrive off community, so it is extremely important for our mental health to find connection with others and feel seen and heard and like we matter. Not only that, routinely reaching out to others will help you make and maintain relationships of all natures!
Educate yourself. Learning shouldn't just stop after you finish schooling. You should continually be trying to further your knowledge about yourself and the world around you. You live in the age where information is readily available all the time, so make an effort to use it to better your life, and learn how to sift through the misinformation as well. Not knowing how to do something is no longer an excuse as an adult when you can easily look it up or ask for guidance.
Consume more positive media and less media overall. What we watch and listen to really affects our thoughts, moods, and subconscious. There is a reason upbeat music motivates us! Try to keep your media exposure to uplifting and feel-good things rather than ones that cause anxiety or sadness.

SHAYE'S MELLOW - frontal view
SHAYE'S MELLOW - oblique view
SHAYE'S MELLOW - detail view of gold iridescent black glass element fitted into the aluminum-leafed resin casting (note some of the red primer showing through some cracks in the leafing)
SHAYE'S MELLOW - detail view of rainbow iridescent transparent amber glass element fitted into the slate (note the transparency on the right-hand side of the glass where it overhangs the slate)
SHAYE'S MELLOW - detail view of leafed lip element with four coats of tinted acrylic lacquer
SHAYE'S MELLOW - detail view of lips (the dark specks are incompletely-mixed pigments from the tinting process — I like the effect it gives)
aluminum leafed resin casting, green Connemara slate, iridescent slumped glass, tinted acrylic lacquer
Finally got around to finishing it. When I posted it as w.i.p. back in March I said it had taken eleven hours at that point and I estimated about four more hours to finish it. It actually took eight hours to finish it — the fitting of the small piece of glass into the resin casting (which I'd never done before — softer is not necessarily easier) took about three times as long as fitting larger glass to the slate. The tinted acrylic lacquer took four coats (instead of one) to achieve the color I wanted on the silver.
The title refers to Shaye Cohn's mellow tones on the cornet. Shaye is the leader of the New Orleans based jazz band TUBA SKINNY which I have listened-to for over a dozen years in recordings. In their first two albums she blew the trumpet, but by the band's third album she had switched to an old silver-plated cornet providing a much sweeter and mellower sound. The lips in the sculpture are about the same color as her instrument.
Shaye Cohn (American, b.1982) — daughter of jazz guitarist Joe Cohn, and granddaughter of jazz saxophonist Al Cohn. She also plays trombone and/or piano when she is with other jazz bands.

I've just been looking at Mystia's Izakaya order bonuses for different stores, for the purposes of adding them to the MFC database, and I figured I should share them here too since I do like a lot of them. Preorders close on February 22nd 2024, so if you really want the game and haven't ordered it yet, you have a few days left to do that as of the date of this post.
The image descriptions for everything in this post are in the alt text. I'll mention if I know a store ships worldwide, but I won't if I don't.
I've personally ordered through Amiami, so I'll cover that first, but before even that, here's an overview of the special edition.
Tumblr media
First, you of course get the game. It's a switch game, nothing too unique about it in comparison to other switch games. The cover features some nice art of Mystia, Kyouko, Marisa and Reimu, with Youmu and Yuyuko in the background too. It looks like this art is also present on the box for the whole product, and it's featured on another piece of merch later in this post too.
Outside of the game, the special edition also comes with a figure strap of Mystia, some playing cards and a soundtrack. These items have been posted about on the game's steam page here, so feel free to read that if you want to know more about these specific items and see a more detailed image of them all.
Now onto store-specific bonuses, under the read-more:
Amiami
Tumblr media
The Amiami bonus is an acrylic keychain of Reimu and marisa, featuring the art that's used for them in-game. I think it's nice that this bonus features characters from the game outside of Mystia and Kyouko, and you'll see that more later on as well.
Through Amiami, you can order the Special Edition, with all the items shared above, or the Regular Edition, with just the game and the order bonus. Or, if you just want the game, you can get that there too.
Amiami ships globally, so you can safely order from here outside of Japan no problem.
Amazon JP
Tumblr media
Amazon JP's order for the game has two versions, one with a beer glass and a coaster, and one with only a coaster. The coaster features art from the game of Mystia and Kyouko, and the glass has a very small image of Mystia. I really like these bonuses, I think they're really fitting for the game.
Amazon JP has both limited and regular edition, as well as versions of both with no exclusive bonus, only the coaster or the coaster and glass. But you can choose from the items page, so I'll only link the one
Melonbooks
Tumblr media
Melonbooks' bonus is an acrylic keychain of Flandre with her art from the game, which you can get with either the limited edition or regular edition.
I like this bonus. It's about on the same level as the Amiami bonus, it's cute and it's nice to see characters outside of Mystia and Kyouko be included.
I believe melonbooks can be bought from using a service such as Buyee, though I'd look into that yourself if you're interested in it.
Gamers
Tumblr media
Gamers' bonus is a tin badge of Flandre. It also comes with some bromides of the EOSD cast. I don't have too much to say about these, I feel similarly to them as the other merch mentioned above
You can buy the limited edition version or the regular edition
and then we have Ebten. Oh boy.
Ebten
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ebten has two acrylic stands of Mystia and Kyouko, in their work uniforms, as well as a plate featuring Mystia and a tapestry of the game's cover art. There's also some bromides. I don't think there's any denying that this is the most impressive set of merch. Theres's a ton of items that're unique when compared to other stores. There's even MORE stuff availible if you go through all the different versions.
Ebten is hard for me to navigate, so I'll share one link
Other Stores
There's other stores that're selling the game that don't seem to have bonuses, so you can find a full list here

What It Feels Like For a Girl (2023)
Mosaic made with found objects (glass, ceramic, plastic, metal, rubber, stone, fabric), grout, acrylic gouache, and holographic glitter on a wooden panel.
Things used as tesserae in this piece include: a Tamagotchi, a Talkback Dear Diary, a 1993 ballerina Polly Pocket with the original doll, a light up barbie (the switch is accessible), a 1950s Blendo martini glass I broke by accident, a selenite tower, a big chunk of grape agate, a lip gloss and a Demeter perfume bottle that can be used and sprayed, a beaver jaw, the top of a vintage Javex bottle I found at Aultsville, a framed photo of Anna Nicole Smith (you can swap the photo if you wanna), a ring given to me by an ex, a Magnum XL condom left behind by another ex, and a fully functioning and reloadable cap gun.
The white lustreware/carnival glass pieces that make up the background are from a vase I thrifted and two of my plates I broke (by accident) the plates are from 1928 and have the date they were made and the name of the person who made them hand painted on the back, one shard broke perfectly with the name and date so I included it in this piece.

Things about Capacitive Switches
Tumblr media
There are lots of things that people could be grateful for in a better life and way of living, it seems like everything today is one soft touch to happen. This is made possible by the capacitive switches printing. This has gained popularity in recent years as an alternative to membrane switches, mechanical switches, and other input device options. With no mechanical parts to wear down, a slim profile that can be applied to curved surfaces, and intricate backlighting options, the capacitive switches printing offer some more outrageous possibilities for the user interface.
What is a capacitive switch?
Since people are having natural electricity in the body, the capacitive switch can easily be changed just like how an electronic capacitor measure changes in capacitance values when a conductive object like a finger, or a body part, moves along the sensor. The changes in the value are interpreted and registered as an activation of the switch. A capacitive switch can contain a lot of functionality that is not be easily achieved with a normal membrane or even a mechanical switch. capacitive switches printing can have assertiveness sliders, sensitive locations in multiple figures such as a circle, and can have different stages of sensitivity for activation. You also can have choices like a nearness detector combined with a capacitive switch for further functioning advantages. As a capacitive switch is a sensor that senses via a non-conductive surface, thicker substrates can be used such as protection glass, or acrylic materials for a very strong switch. This can also give the capability for added gasketing for extreme environments. It is also possible to complete very complicated backlighting explanations with capacitive switch technologies.
How capacitive switch form?
Just like the membrane switch, the capacitive switch generally needs about layers to function. An overlay panel, a circuit layer, and a backing material are the three layers that form a capacitive switch. The graphical overlay could be any non-conductive material of various thicknesses including glass, polyester, polycarb, acrylic materials, and many other non-conductive materials. The circuit layer can be a thin plastic flex circuit, or a sensing pad laid out on a rigid printed circuit board. The backing material could be a metal back plate, glass, or plastic, or can be attached to the position of your product. It is also possible to have a flexible circuit on the inside of a sealed container with a graphic outside to make sure the safety of the electronics from harsh environments. Capacitive switch structures can be more complicated relying on backlighting opportunities or shielding conditions. However, with its very thin layer of formation, with the exact three layers alone, the construction can be applied easily to a curve surface. It can provide a long life span for no parts could move because of its compactness and even no wearing down. With its great effect, they have progressed dramatically over the past couple of years employing cost effective brands. in the coming years, expect that capacitive will give the technology advancement a better and greater result.

Artist Apryl Miller’s New York City apt. is nothing like you’ve ever seen. She had a single-minded quest to turn her space into one of undiluted creativity and intricate visual expression. The result is utterly idiosyncratic: “Sculpture masquerading as furniture,” individually painted switch plates and hand-cut kaleidoscopic bathroom tiling in hundreds of colors.

What is ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro?
We will review and test the engraving and cutting performance of the ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro laser engraver. This engraver is basically the same as the ATOMSTACK A10 pro and ATOMSTACK X7 Pro, but it has a more affordable 5W M50 laser module. We'll test it with our standardized test range and a few extras. This will help you decide if this machine is best for you.
The ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro is mechanically identical to the A10 Pro and X7 Pro. But it comes with a less powerful - 5W M50 laser module.
The ATOM STACK A5 M50 Pro should be a very solid laser engraver because it has improved mechanics and added an offline touchscreen controller compared to the previous model - the A5 Pro.
We'll put it through a series of tests to show what this machine is capable of.
The A5 M50 Pro has a rectangular engraving area of 410*400mm and is equipped with a very high quality control panel with display and quality buttons. It also has an offline controller, so the laser can only be operated via its touchscreen. No computer required.
Assembly of the machine is simple, it takes less than half an hour to assemble it thanks to a good manual.
The ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro is equipped with a 5-watt M50 laser module.
The machine has a 32-bit controller board with a touchscreen offline controller. I also recommend using OD6+ protection for more quality protection google. You only have one pair of eyes. protect them! These lasers work in the visible spectrum, and even reflections can be very harmful to your eyes!
Save your eyes! The included security google is not the best. Do yourself a favor and get a premium OD6+ safe Google Glass for better protection for your eyes!
The focusing process is the same as the ATOMSTACK A5 Pro we tested earlier. For the best cut, the head needs to be 3mm above the engraved surface. Focusing is done by placing the acrylic plate/spacer under the laser head and lowering the laser head onto the spacer. The spacer is 3mm thick and the head remains 3mm above the surface after tightening the z-axis screw.
The machine has a cool offline controller that allows us to use the machine without a computer. It is very handy for field jobs and projects that require a lot of the same cutting work. You set up your design in Lightburn or LaserGRBL as usual, but then instead of starting to engrave, you export it as gcode to the included SD card using the included SD card reader, which you can then select using touchreeen file, fine-tune parameters and continue sculpting your designs without using a computer.
It has a solid metal mushroom-style emergency knob that comes in handy when you need to shut down the machine in a hurry.
This is probably one of the best features I hope all lasers have someday. Limit switches allow you to automatically home the machine so that it always starts from the same position. This way, if you stop engraving or add another layer of work, or if the machine crashes mid-work, you can be sure that the machine will start working in the exact same spot you want. They decided to use cheap tactile switches instead of proper limit switches, but they worked fine.
The machine can be connected via USB or WiFi. You can also control it using a smartphone app on Android or iOS.
Engraving: Wood, Bamboo, Cardboard, Plastic, Leather, PCB Board, Alumina, Non-reflective, Electroplated and Painted Surface Metal, 304 Mirror Stainless Steel, Glass, Ceramic, Cotton, Slate
The ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro is also a reasonably capable cutter.
Cutting: cardboard, non-woven fabric, wood board, acrylic, some thin plastic sheets, sponge, etc.
To prevent your machine from rusting quickly, don't use plastics like PVC and vinyl, as they release hydrogen chloride gas when cutting, which is toxic and very corrosive.
Software and Supported Formats You can use the ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro laser engraver with the free LaserGRBL software, which works fine, but is a bit clunky to use. It's great for some testing, but I went with Lightburn, which is more powerful and very intuitive to use. While it's not free, the license costs $60. However, the software offers a 1-month full-featured free trial, which will help you decide if it's worth it.
With LaserGRBL you can import vector files (NC, BMP, JPG, PNG, DXF…) and bitmap image files (bmp, jpg, png and gif),
Lightburn supports more formats: AI, SVG, DXF, PDF, HPGL, PLT, and RD for vector formats and PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, TGA, and GIF for image formats.
We have done more or less standardized testing on all laser engravers and cutters. This way, it's easy to compare results between machines. Here you can see a video showing how the test is done, and below you will find detailed images of the test results along with instructions.
Our standard engraving patterns are designed to demonstrate engraving capabilities at different settings so you can see the effectiveness of the laser beam. Let's look at the results in more detail in the following sections.
The power level test pattern shows how the machine can engrave at different power levels at different speeds.
Power varies from 10% to 100% in 10% increments at speeds of 600, 1200, 1800 and 2400 mm/min. We omitted the low speed/high power shape because the beam burns too much at low speed. This leaves a large burnt blob that provides no practical information.
The interval scale test is used to show whether the laser focus shape is square or rectangular. The scan interval was gradually increased from 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm.
In this test, the beam shape of the ATOMSTACK A10 Pro looked very square, and the vertical and horizontal sculpting looked very balanced.
We'll be able to estimate the exact spot shape later when we test the engraving on anodized aluminum.
This is a test of engraving a small 20mm size photo while changing the maximum laser power. Engraving of photos is slow because the laser head has to scan line by line like an inkjet printer. If you want to engrave a very large photo, be prepared to wait a few hours 🙂
As we can see below, the ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro does a very good job of photo sculpting.
Engraving of vector images is much faster because the laser head follows the lines directly. Although with this technique you cannot make grayscale images.
Our test included this cute tit bird photo in the upper right corner of the test piece. It only took a few minutes to carve the bird. In the software it is possible to set the shape to be filled with a pattern fill, in this one, the shape is swept to fill in 0.1mm steps. For large engravings, you can increase the step to 1mm or more to speed up the engraving. This way it will make a raster or grid on the black areas. But at other times there is more discussion on this.
Next, we tested the ATOMSTACK A5 M50 Pro on a piece of black anodized aluminum scrap.
Below are engraved test patterns to evaluate focus size in both directions and the effect of viewing speed. Next, we will further examine the various parts of the test mode.
The most important part is the interval scale. By scanning vertically and horizontally with different interval steps, we can approximate the size of the laser spot. From the results we can see that the laser spot of the ATOM STACK A5 M50 Pro is more or less rectangular because the pattern looks the same when scanned in the horizontal (X-axis) and vertical (Y-axis) directions.
The text engraving is done at 600mm/sec, which is pretty fast for such a small movement, so some wobble of the laser head can be seen in the corners. This can easily be avoided by lowering the acceleration and speed in the settings.

Reader
The morning was more hectic than any before. There was a brief lull, right after the story drop. The long wait for the verdict. Was it a hit or a flop? You sat at your desk, typing away at your latest assignment. Nothing so glorious as the famous super soldier. Merely a fluff piece on a local foundation for children in need. The usual fare.
Then it began. The comment section on the article was overwhelming and the coverage of the printed article was just as fervent. The Google alerts on your phone threatened to drain the battery and the stationary phone on your desk began to flash. You answered.
“My office. Now.” Poppy’s demand was followed by a click.
You stood and tucked your cell up your blazer sleeve. You knocked on her transparent door and she waved you in as she remained sitting. One leg was crossed over the other as she leaned back and swiveled back and forth.
“Do you know what you’ve done?” She asked. Your eyes rounded. “You’ve set the world on fire. I have been on the phone all morning and who do you think I’ve been talking about?”
“I don’t--” You began.
“You. And Steve Rogers.” She trilled. “Even heroes must be mindful of the press.”
“What do you--?”
“Tell me haven’t been divulging in all that praise, hun,” She chimed. “What are you working on right now?”
“Um, well, I just went down the Centre for Advocacy and Assistance and I’m--”
“Drop it. Throw it on an intern’s desk,” She interrupted again. “You’ll be much too busy for that.”
“What do you mean?” You stood just behind the acrylic chair.
“Interviews!” She almost shouted. “Everyone wants to know what it was like to face down Captain America.”
“Interviews? No, no. It wasn’t like that.”
“You know what you wrote,” She jabbed a pointed nail in the air. “I think you might be as hot a commodity as he is.”
“I don’t want to be interviewed.” You said. “I’m a reporter. I don’t--”
“This is an opportunity,” She insisted.
“It’s one article. I can’t just depend on that.” You said.
“Think about it.” She said. “Even so, clear out your desk. We’re moving you to the features department. I hope you know what that means.”
You nodded. That was a win at least.
“Long hours. Better pay.” She leaned an arm on her desk. “But it’s hard work. One wrong pitch and your back down to blurbs.”
“I know,” You assured her. “Thank you.”
“Thank me if you make it a year,” She adjusted her glasses. “And keep those eyes open. You might not want the attention, but you’re going to get it.”
🖋️
You headed out for your usual midweek lunch. As you stepped out the front doors, you were surprised by a lens. In your effort to find the card to collect stamps for your sandwiches, you stumbled and your bag fell to the pavement. You knelt to gather the scattered contents and quickly righted yourself.
You flitted past the photographer as he called after you. “Miss, miss, are you afraid of Steve Rogers?”
You rolled your eyes at the question and dipped into the sandwich shop. You got your usual turkey club on rye but not to go. Instead, you ate in, still on edge at your run-in. As a member of the press, it was startling to get a taste of the other side. You were determined in your work, but never the one to unnecessarily hound a subject.
You wiped your mouth and sat back as you checked the time. You wondered how bad it was for him. You had underestimated yourself; your article. You had ignored Poppy’s prediction that the article would be a best-seller and let your self-doubt get the best of you. And now, it was all a mess.
You hadn’t meant to villianize Steve Rogers, merely humanise him. To make him more than the man behind the perfect smile and golden hair. You thought a glimpse into his internal dilemma would be grounding, not ostracizing. You were wildly mistaken.
You tidied up and threw away your garbage. You set off back to work and passed another photographer, her curly hair barely contained under a wool cap.
“Miss, why did you smear Steve Rogers?” She asked as you tried your best to ignore her. “Can you confirm--”
You hurried through the front doors and tripped on your own foot as you entered the lobby. You cursed under your breath and caught the elevator before it could close. Your bag shook as your phone began to dance once more. You cringed and gripped the slender strap of your purse. You didn’t feel too sorry for yourself, you were sure it was much worse for him.
🖋️
The rest of your day dragged on. You were greeted by the same probing photographers but evaded them in the subway. The crowded train had you even more on edge than usual. You kept your eyes on the phone, your notifications muted but for your work e-mail. You played the little farming game as you waited for your stop.
The same walk as any other day. Short but it saw the sky greying by the time you reached your building. Your keys jingled with the overzealous keychains and attachments, an empty bottle of sanitizer clung to the mess.
You climbed up the stairs, one at a time. The wood was old and warped beneath the mats. Your door jammed and you fought the thick barrier until you forced your way inside. You flipped on the lights and locked the door behind you. You kicked off your shoes and dropped your purse. You wriggled out of your blazer and stretched as you looked around the cramped space.
You went to the buzzing refrigerator and pulled out your leftover shawarma plate from the night before and a can of sparkling water. You popped open the styrofoam and took out your phone. You leaned on the counter and at the chicken and rice cold and scraped up the last of the pickled turnip and cabbage.
Poppy wanted you in early the next morning. That couldn’t be good. Your junk box was quickly filling too as you redirected e-mails from your cohorts asking for statements and explanations. You didn’t feel the need or desire to justify what you wrote. It was the truth.
You thought of how quickly the meeting with Steve Rogers had turned tense. The mere mention of his old friend was enough to rile him but you had continued to poke. Well, that was your job. To follow the scent until you could latch onto the sinew of a story.
You tossed the container and went to the couch. You turned on the television and stretched out. You listened to the re-run of an early 00s sitcom and your eyes slowly closed. You were exhausted and expected to be more so after tomorrow. You only hoped the news cycle spat you out sooner than later.
You turned onto your side as the breeze rattled the fire escape outside your window. You switched the channel as the credits rolled and yawned against the pillow. As tired as you were, you knew you’d spend too much of your night on the couch; wakeless and watching episodes you’d seen a dozen times before.
🖋️
You knew something was off as you walked into the office. It was earlier than your usual start time but several others were already at their desks. You wondered if a few had even left the night before. You passed your old desk and looked at your vibrating phone.
‘Where are you?’ Poppy’s text popped up and you didn’t even stop to stare at the shell of your former workspace.
You continued onto her office and froze as you peered through her transparent wall. A man stood by her desk, his back to you and a bald head with a crooked thin strap around it. His long leather jacket hung to his knees and Poppy sat upright as she watched him tinker with the hummingbird ornament she kept on the corner.
You held back a gasp and continued forward. You raised your fist to knock but Poppy caught the movement with her seafoam eyes. She pushed her glasses up her nose and waved you in impatiently. The man turned to watch as you entered.
“Hey?” You said confused. “What’s--”
“Ma’am,” The man interjected and looked back at Poppy. “This is her?”
Poppy nodded as her lips formed a thin line.
“Hello, I’m--”
“Nick Fury.” You finished for him. “And I assume you know who I am already.”
“I know who everyone is.” He assured you and held out his hand. You shook it and felt a crushing strength in his grip. “And you know why I’m here?”
“About the article but I don’t know what you would want from me.” You said.
Poppy’s eyes widened. You’d never seen her so rattled. It was usually her doing the rattling.
“A conversation.” He said. “I understand you must be busy but I’m certain you can spare me a couple minutes.”
“I guess,” You shrugged.
“If you find yourself too busy, I can return with a subpoena.” He offered.
“A subpoena? Really?” You blinked at him. “I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“I would agree,” He put a hand on his hip and you spied the sidearm there. Was that intentional? “Is there somewhere private we might talk?”
“Take the conference room,” Poppy offered. “Just over there.” She pointed through the wall.
Fury nodded and you turned back to the door. He followed, his boots heavy on the floor behind you. You led him to the conference room and he closed the door swiftly. You didn’t sit as he began to pace around the long table. You stayed by the wall and hugged your purse.
“Look, I don’t know what you want. The article’s already out there and I didn’t write anything by the truth.” You said nervously. “I can’t control how people react to--”
“You have the recording still?” He asked as he stopped sharply. You nodded. “Good. Can I listen?”
It wasn’t really a question. He stared you down with his single eye and you took out your phone. You searched the files and hit play. You set the phone on the table as it began. You listened silently as your voice began and Steve replied.
The conversation filled the airy conference and Fury crossed his arms as he listened. He wasn’t happy as Steve’s tone deepened and his words turned venomous. You felt a chill roll along your spine. You’d almost forgotten how hateful he’d sounded. You felt as if he was there now, his eyes boring into you as his lip curled.
As it ended, Fury nodded and rubbed his chin.
“Well,” He snatched your phone off the table. “Thank you.”
“What?” You neared the table as he tucked your cell in his pocket. “Wait, that’s my phone. I need that!”
“Your phone? Under the authority of… well, me, I am seizing it.” He declared. “For your security and every one else.”
“You can’t be serious.” You huffed.
“I can’t have this leaking.” He said. “I hear Best Buy’s having a promotion on iPhone’s. Looks like you need an upgrade anyways.”
You frowned and kept your lips sealed. He didn’t need to know about your cloud back-up. You’d have enough time to download the file before he could find it for himself. You rolled your eyes.
“Is that it?” You asked.
“I got what I wanted, like I always do,” He said. “But there is one more thing.”
You watched him. He was worse than any nosy photographer or internet troll.
“I don’t take these things lightly. You’ve sidelined one of my best men and compromised my team.” He hooked his thumb in his pants pocket. “But we’ve taken note of you and we are always vigilant of our enemies.”
“Enemies?” You shook your head.
“I suggest you steer clear of any public statements,” He warned. “Or I would consider some legal representation in the near future.”
You squinted at him in disbelief. You rubbed your forehead, tired and unprepared for your early morning interrogation. You still had a full day ahead of you.
“Are we done?” You uttered. “I know my work isn’t as important as yours but I do have a job.”
“For now,” He said. “The public has a short attention span, miss, I suggest you find a new subject soon.”
With that he rounded the table and left you in the conference room. You sighed and grabbed the back of a chair. What the fuck were going to do without your phone?
🖋️
With your back-up done and a five minutes crash course in being a features writer from a new cohort, you felt entirely lost. You hid the flash drive in your purse and headed out on the guise of research. No one seemed to care very much, they all just thought you were off to search out a pitch to keep hold of your new position.
What you were truly off to do was sit in line for one of only three mobile associates at the electronics shop. When it was finally your turn, you asked for the most affordable yet reliable option. You brushed away the offer for the latest Apple shill and walked out with something a lot more comfortable next to your wallet.
You dreaded a return to the office. You were thankful for your sudden step-up as it meant a longer leash. You could check in once a week at most as long as you presented something to explain your absence. You weren’t so concerned about that anyway.
You were more worried about getting this phone set-up. Oh, and creating new accounts because as it was, Fury and his people now had every drop of info on you. That meant, at some point, you would have to visit IT and get a new ID. For now, you forwarded all your messages to your new private e-mail and stopped by the coffee shop around the corner from your building.
You hated this new normal. Not only did you have to be aware of those who thought they could jump on your cloud, but those who would label you an enemy of the people. You were certain Fury would be keeping tabs on you and judging by the influx of bings from your phone, you were fairly certain the blow back was building by the second.
You didn’t bother delving into the chaos of the comments section. People arguing with each other over your exposure of the heroes versus those who felt it was a betrayal and misrepresentation. You had never expected the spotlight to include you but you were centre stage alongside the American hero. You only assumed it was much worse for him.
You thought on what Fury said. ‘Sidelined’. Did that mean Steve Rogers was no longer an Avenger? Had he stepped down or been forced out? Hmm… you were tempted to dive down that rabbit hole but did the flames need any more fuel? And yet, it was your job to prod and poke at the vague.
However, it would be better to steer away from that and not rely on that one trick. Besides, you didn’t truly think there was anything particularly deceptive about Steve or his associates. They were secretive only because they had to be. They were doing their jobs as you did yours.
You sat by the window and picked at the curled lip of the paper cup. What would you pitch then? If you couldn’t grasp onto your momentary high, you might find the way down steep. You leaned your chin in your hand and watched the steam rise. The door chimed and you kept your eyes on the dark brew.
Maybe it was best to move along and sniff out your next bone. It would help you forget about the mess you had created while keeping your career alive. The only thing you could do was move forward and hope that this was all just buried by the next headline.

distracted art appreciation | Ethan Ramsey x MC
Summary: It takes him fifty-six days in the jungle to get over her. Or, well, so he thought.
WC: 3k+
Warnings: N*FW
She’s been staring at the same painting for the past fourteen minutes.
Though, she uses the term ‘painting’ loosely -- whatever she’s looking at is made of twisted straw wrappers and crumbled pages of an IKEA manual. The placard next to the work features phrases like ‘a work of action’ and ‘an introspection into rampant consumerism.’ To her (admittedly untrained) eye, it looks like someone dumped a trashcan over a canvas and spray-painted it with viscera and glitter. Taking another sip of her wine, she glances down at her phone to see that only another minute has passed.
“Two more hours,” Sloane mutters to herself, hopelessly wishing again for time to speed up.
It’s not that she isn’t happy for Kyra, who started out with painting tutorials on YouTube and worked up to a modest following in Boston’s art community, which led her here to her first gallery show. She was excited for the first hour, sticking close to her friend as Kyra chatted with fellow artists about mediums and superatism and juxtaposition and a hundred other terms Sloane didn’t understand. But as conversations flowed, Kyra’s nerves settled down, and she waved Sloane off to go get some air and peruse the other artwork.
Which is how she came to standing in front of The Shopper’s Sediment, waiting for the event to end so she can help Kyra haul her paintings back down the block to her car.
The pleas for company that Sloane sent to the group chat have gone unanswered; they’re probably all still out at the new fantasy-themed bar that she skipped on to be a good friend who keeps her promises.
She’s so concentrated on the ugly artwork that she doesn’t realize there’s a person standing beside her. In fact, she only realizes they’re even there when she lifts her wine glass and ends up whacking them in the side with her elbow.
“Oh, my god! I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there, I--” she swallows back the rest of her panicked apology.
Ethan smirks down at her. His hand is clasped around her offending elbow.
“It’s all right. I won’t be pressing charges.”
“Thanks,” she says around the dumb grin on her face.
She admires the cut of the jacket he’s wearing; it’s some sort of tweed fabric with patches on the elbows, as if he’s just stepped down from behind a podium at Boston U. For a long moment, they stare at each other, and then down at his hand, still wrapped around her arm. He yanks his hand back as if he’s been burned; the dumb grin falls from her face.
“Um,” she hides the wince that wants to form, “why are… sorry, what are you doing here?”
“I missed out on a few First Fridays while I was away,” he explains. “Besides, Les Mis is running through the fourteenth, and I’ve seen enough of it for a lifetime. I thought I’d peruse the galleries tonight instead.” Taking a drink from the glass in his other hand, he glances about the room. “And you?”
Sloane tips her head in Kyra’s direction, explaining her role as both a social crutch and moving help. An awkward silence follows her words; she switches her glass from one hand to the other, mentally cursing at herself for fidgeting.
She’s a grown-ass woman! There’s no need for her to fold like a goddamn lawn chair around the man next to her. They’re both adults. They can interact in a public place without acting like idiots.
“Well,” Ethan starts, and then pauses to clear his throat. “You heard all about what I was doing down in Colombia, but I’m… curious. What did you do for the two months I was gone? Besides breaking up bar fights for Reggie.”
“Worked,” she answers with a smile. “And worried, of course.”
He quirks an eyebrow up at her response. “About you,” she clarifies.
“You didn’t need to.”
“I know. But I did anyway.” A smile flickers across his face at her admission. “I kept a close eye on the weather conditions down there. You were there during one of the wettest seasons on record. And now I find out that you were wearing a leather jacket the entire time for protection? Something about that just doesn’t add up. And you know what I think? I think you bought it in Bogota before your return flight, so you could come back with some new… down-to-earth vibe.”
That small smile of his grows; the sight of it makes something flutter in her throat.
“You’re not considering the bigger picture,” he says.
“Which is?”
“How I look in it.”
“Are you fishing for compliments?”
“Only when they’re yours.”
Sloane makes a show of taking a drink, if only to hide the blush that’s likely (most definitely) coloring her cheeks. She’s bedded the man twice, yet he can turn her into a mess with a minute of flirting. If hope is the thing with feathers, as Dickinson wrote, it’s flown well beyond her reach now.
“In the interest of continuing our, for a lack of a better term, in vino veritas,” he says, “I… worried about you, too.”
The admission causes her to perk up.
“What for?”
“I chose a poor time to leave. Everything was in an upheaval, with Naveen and Harper and I moving positions, and you having won your trial, and then you were awarded the position on the team, and…” he trails off, brow furrowing as he attempts to corral his rambling. “Naveen told me about Doctor Olsen, about how he tried to sabotage your standing.” At his side, his hand clenches into a fist. “And if you let that slide by, what else were you holding back from me?”
“I’ve dealt with bigger snakes than him. You don’t need to worry about--”
“But I did,” he cuts her off. “The entire time I was gone. All fifty-six days.” His eyes drop from hers, going instead to his glass and feigning interest in it. “Some reset, hmm?”
She should walk away; bid her goodbyes and return to Kyra’s side, let him walk out the door and move onto the next gallery. Let him have his reset. But, then again, she’s never been able to leave well enough alone.
So, instead, she tucks her arm up into his. Her offending elbow nudges his side.
“Come on. I’m tired of staring at this.”
Ethan gives the piece a look over his shoulder as they continue into the space. “It is a rather… visually-challenging take on mixed media.”
“See? I’ve circled this place four times and don’t understand what I’m supposed to be looking at. You’re just the man I need.”
“Then, by all means, lead on.”
+
By the near-end of their excursion through the gallery, Sloane learns more art terms than she did in the one art history class she mistakenly took in undergrad. The one that she barely passed, though she doesn’t mention that particular detail when Ethan asks.
Art is something she appreciates as one would appreciate good food -- she doesn’t have to know every ingredient in it to enjoy the taste. Ethan, as he is inclined to do, argues against her logic, claiming that knowledge behind every brush stroke (and, thus, every pinch of minced garlic, if we’re using food as a comparison, he added with a sigh) makes the artwork that much more meaningful (and, thus, tastier).
“It’s a moving piece that calls back to the Impressionist period,” he tells her, as if the third time’s the charm, and suddenly she’ll be awestruck by the boring landscape before them.
“It looks like something that would be bolted above the bed at a Best Western.”
He barks out a laugh at her comment, quickly smothering it when it draws attention from the other art patrons. They move away from the Monet copycat and down a long hallway, where a selection of lackluster acrylic paintings hang in a row. Sloane can feel her eyes glaze over as she examines them.
It’s no wonder that there’s no one near this end of the gallery. The conversations that reach them are muffled, just the droning buzz of voices. Not even the contemporary jazz music is piped down this far, leaving only the creaking floorboards and their own footsteps to accompany them. They reach the end of the hall, where a little table holds a handful of empty plates and glasses, abandoned by those that came before them.
Above the table is a painting of a woman. Draped around her shoulders is a red robe, patterned with messy strokes of amber-colored flowers. Her short, dark curls are pinned back, showing off the strong line of her jaw and the soft contour of her lips. Her right hand is raised, her fingers curled towards herself, as if beckoning to someone out of frame. Her eyes are closed, her head tilted up as she waits for her kiss.
“She’s hot,” Sloane blurts out.
Ethan raises an eyebrow at her blunt summary of the artwork, though he concedes with a nod. “She is rather lovely.”
“It’s kind of weird, though,” she steps closer and scans the woman’s face. “She reminds me of a woman I went on a date with.”
“Oh. When?”
“Two weeks ago.”
“Oh,” he repeats, but his tone is different this time.
Sloane looks him over, unable to suppress her grin. “Are you jealous?”
“No,” he says, then grimaces. “Maybe. Yes. Of course I am.”
“You shouldn’t be. Her name is Reese -- she’s a pediatric surgeon over at Children’s. Very attractive, great work ethic, good kisser, cute dog.”
“I fail to see how you reciting all of her best qualities is preventing me from feeling jeal--”
“Simple,” she interrupts. “No spark.”
“Not one?”
Sloane tips her head from side to side, pursing her lips as she considers. “Okay, maybe a little one. Not enough for a fire, though.”
The quiet of the hallway hovers between them as they gaze up at the painting. The placard hanging next to it lists the artist and the artwork’s title: la voglia.
“Is that Italian?”
“It means ‘the wanting.’” He tips back his glass and swallows the last of his wine. Liquid courage, and all that. “What about… us?”
“Hmm?” The question pulls her from her study of the painting.
“What was our ‘spark’ level?”
“Oh, we were a bonfire.”
“I see,” he says, his eyes blazing as he watches her. Sloane bites down on her bottom lip. His gaze flickers down to watch the movement; the flame that’s been simmering in her stomach all evening ignites under the attention.
“Did you want to kiss me?” she asks. “The other night at Donahue’s?”
“Yes.”
“Do you want to kiss me now?”
“Yes.”
“I wish you would.”
The loud clink of his glass meeting the table is lost under the sound of his footsteps crossing the few feet between them. His hands come up to frame her face and his lips crash against hers. Her glass smacks against the table from where she hastily drops it; wine sloshes and drips down onto the floor. Sloane ignores the mess in favor of grabbing any part of him she can reach and pulling him close. Ethan breaks the kiss to surface for air, moving his hands to her waist; she adjusts her grip to his tie and yanks him down for another kiss, tilting her head to deepen it. Pleasure hums through her as she teases his lips to open for her, sweeping her tongue against his own.
Her back hits the wall; funny, because she doesn’t recall moving at all. The rough brick catches at her blouse and hair as she tilts her head up and arches her back, offering more of herself for him to explore.
“Sloane,” he hisses, trailing Syrah-soaked kisses along her throat and up behind her ear. He nips at the soft skin there, the marks hidden behind the curtain of her hair that he wraps around his hand and tugs. The moan tumbles out of her before she can swallow it down. “I can’t decide what I missed more,” he says with a smirk. “Your touch, or those sweet noises you make for me.”
“Can I tell you what I missed most?”
He pulls back to look down at her, blue eyes alight with arousal. “I’m all ears.”
Flashing a smug grin, she shifts to put her leg between both of his and brings it up as high as her skirt will allow. She rubs her knee against his thigh, and then higher, smirking when he growls out her name.
“That,” she tells him.
Ethan shakes his head at her as he grabs the offending leg and wraps it around his hip. She retaliates by hauling him closer and rolling her hips up to tease him.
“Sloane--”
“Yes?”
“We can’t… not here. Someone could come down the hallway any moment.”
“I know,” she purrs, running her nails through his beard, pleased at his sharp inhale. “We should go somewhere more private.”
“We… my apartment, it’s not too--”
“I’m not sitting through that forty-minute taxi ride you call a commute. I can’t wait.” She brings her hand down and presses it against the swell of his visible arousal. He emits a helpless groan at her touch. “And neither can you.”
“What do you have in mind, then?”
Her only response is another grin that he meets with a look of worried confusion. She decides that she likes the look, especially when she gets to watch the understanding dawn on his face as she guides him to the open door of a nearby stockroom.
Sloane kicks the door closed and locks it behind them, smacking Ethan’s hand away from the lightswitch. Warm light from the street lamps outside pours down out of a high window, diffused with the multicolored strobes of the nightclub across the alley. Shelves of cleaning supplies crowd in next to a pile of stanchions and a stack of easels. The bass from next door thrums along the brick walls, rattling the glassware that’s tucked away in the cabinets. The countertop underneath them glows red from the club lights.
Ethan picks her up easily and sets her on the counter. The laminate is cool under her heated skin, causing a shiver to course through her. His hand curves around her throat, his thumb brushing along her bottom lip. His breath turns ragged when Sloane turns her head in his hold and takes his thumb into her mouth, swirling her tongue around the digit before releasing him with a wet pop.
“Fuck,” he curses. “Let me see more of you.”
She reaches down and untucks her blouse while he attacks the pearl buttons, popping them open and pushing the cloth from her shoulders, chuckling at her threat of injury should he ruin her shirt. The cool air of the stockroom is soon replaced by his warm breath as he drags kisses down her chest; unhurried and uncaring of her complaints as he takes his sweet time.
“Ethan--” the rest of her complaint is lost to time as his mouth closes over the lacey fabric of her bra. His tongue traces the peak of her nipple, over one breast and then the other. She drags her nails through his hair and grips the strands tight, begging him to never stop kissing her.
In true fashion, he does stop and flashes her a self-satisfied smirk before dropping to his knees. Hauling her closer, he shoves her skirt up, the fabric bunching around her waist. She waits with bated breath, trembling slightly with anticipation, so sure that he won’t bother to tease her now, not when she’s--
“You bastard,” she croaks out when he starts further south than she wants.
That smarmy chuckle of his is somehow deeper than the nightclub’s bass; he ignores her insult and continues tracing wet kisses along the curve of her leg. His beard scratches at her knee as he makes his way up, higher and higher, until he’s so close that the puff of his breath is nearly enough to set her off.
“You’re one to talk,” he says, tilting his chin to let his beard scrape at the sensitive skin of her inner thigh. “If I’d known you weren’t wearing anything under this skirt, we would have been here hours ago.”
She opens her mouth to serve him something snarky right back, but he chooses then to press the flat of his tongue against her and lick a long stripe up her sex. The noise that escapes her isn’t anything close to the English language. With one hand holding her leg up to keep them spread, he uses his other to slide two fingers into her wet heat. The pace he sets is punishing; Sloane barely manages to reach up and grab at the cabinet handles behind her head, holding on for dear life. The warm heat in her belly flows outward into her limbs, burning through her veins; her hips make aborted little thrusts into his mouth as his tongue works her open.
“Oh, god, oh -- god, Ethan!” she cries out. Then his thumb finds her clit and she’s a goner. Her legs snap closed, holding him there as she rides out the wave of her orgasm. Escaping from her hold, he gets to his feet and steps between her splayed legs. He cups her chin and coaxes her up to meet him for a kiss.
“Beautiful,” he murmurs.
Sloane works at his belt buckle, the leather creaking under her grip as she yanks it from the loops and throws it to the ground.
“I don’t think you needed to--”
“Shut up,” she orders, covering her mouth with his. For once, he listens, kissing the fuck out of her while she pops the button on his pants and dips her hand inside his underwear. His breath catches and his head drops to her bare shoulder, his hips thrusting up into her touch. Heady pants sound against her ear, spurring her on.
The hand not splayed against the cabinet above her head disappears between her legs and palms her sex, rubbing circles against her there. “Yes,” she whispers, her voice hoarse, “god, touch me.”
“Do I…” he starts, then stops, choking back a groan as her wrist gives a little twist. “Do we need…?”
Through the thick fog of oxytocin clouding her brain, Sloane catches on to his fumbling attempts. To give him the chance to form a coherent thought, she lets go of his cock, busying her hands by skimming them up his body and underneath the button-down he still wears.
“I presume you got every test in the book before being let back into the country,” she says. “And my IUD is still in working order. And, besides that, I haven’t been with anyone since you.”
He shifts to look down into her eyes. By the primal glaze covering his own, it’s obvious to her that the notion pleases him.
“Not even with the surgeon with the great work ethic and the cute dog?”
Stretching up, she captures his lips with her own -- mostly to shut him up again, having found the technique rather effective.
“Like I told you: no spark. Now, if you can get over your jealous streak and--”
“I’m not jealous,” he protests while still grabbing her knees and tugging her that much closer.
“You so totally are,” she laughs as she wraps her legs around his hips. Her knuckles scrape against the cabinet when he forces her hands up beside her head; she links her fingers through his, holding him there.
“Not anymore.” A wolfish grin spreads across his face before he drives into her.
Any chance of continuing their banter is lost to the heat between them. His hips crash down into hers; her legs quake around his. Their chests heave with every breath, their kisses little more than frenzied brushes as the flare of pleasure grows and grows, burning white-hot under their skin.
Ethan drops one hand to where they’re joined and passes once, then twice over her sensitive bundle of nerves. Her body arches as the delicious, surprising heat of her orgasm courses through her. Unable to withstand the rhythmic clenching of her, he follows, muffling his shout by burying his face against her throat.
“How was that?” he asks once the ability of speech returns. Despite the sweaty mess of each other they’ve made, he nuzzles close, sighing when she wraps her arms around him.
“A house fire.”
Though it defies all laws of medicine and the universe, she can somehow hear the frown of consideration he wears.
“I was thinking forest.”
“Okay,” she concedes. “That works too.”
From somewhere in the dark room comes a buzzing sound. Before she can seriously consider whether or not her orgasm did knock her hearing out-of-whack, Ethan scoops her phone up from the floor.
A stack of missed texts from Kyra fills up her screen:
6:28 pm: come back there’s a hot girl I want you to see
6:28 pm: she’s a sculptor and welds and has tattoos please i’m weak
6:43 pm: where did you gooo
7:02 pm: if you left because of the creepo photographer let me know and I’ll kick his ass
7:04 pm: creepo says he never saw you which i DO NOT believe considering how hot you look tonight
7:39 pm: Lmao nvm
7:39 pm: you are the least subtle person i know but no worries i’ve got your back
7:40 pm: I trust that doctor ramsey can take care of your front ;)
8:24 pm: Devon the hot welder you missed out on meeting is going to help me w paintings and then take me out for a drink. make good choices!! text if you need anything love you
“What are those little pictographs next to her name?”
Sloane glances down at the tiny flexing bicep and pink heart next to Kyra’s name and rolls her eyes.
“This grumpy, outdated persona of yours can only go on for so long, you know. You did grow up during the birth of AOL and AIM. You’re not a Luddite.” She hops down from the counter and taps out a reply to her friend before buttoning up her blouse. “Besides, you know it’s rude to look at people’s messages, right?”
A red flush returns to his cheeks, though he tries to hide it by crossing the room to switch on the light and searching for his belt.
“Well, I had to make sure it wasn’t the pediatric surgeon, offering to take you out again.”
Sloane lets out a snort, her attention on her reflection in the mirror propped up against the back wall. “We both know by now that there’s only one persistent, albeit indecisive and general pain-in-the-ass doctor that has my attention.”
Ethan, having finished putting himself together, approaches her from behind. His hands slip in underneath her hair to fix her collar. She catches his eye in their reflection; he drops a kiss against her temple.
“Come home with me.”
“That would go against all of those parameters you set up,” she reminds him.
“I know. So did this.” If his tone is a little lost, a little unsure, she doesn’t mention it. “Come home with me,” he repeats.
“Okay.”

Author’s notes and what-have-yous:
Hello, and welcome back to the sin bin.
Please no art lectures. Everything in this was either prior knowledge, googled to the best of my ability, or from recalling friends who were art majors in college bitch about said major. The painting of the woman they discuss is based off of Albert von Keller’s Anticipation. (Sloane’s right; she’s hot.)
Also, if anyone can tell me if I used the correct ‘desire’ in Italian, please let me know. I couldn’t find anything that said I should use la brama instead of la voglia, so I used the latter. (special thank you to @uncagedwings for the vocab assist!)

LED Cup Coaster: Drink from the gorgeous cup ever
Imagine driving with your close friends or family in the car and sipping cold drinks on the go, but spilling it accidentally because the cup holder was not visible in the dark. Apart from staining your clothing or spilling sugary drinks inside the car, there will be a headache about the cleanup process afterwards. During the rush hours on your way back, when you are driving and sipping the coffee simultaneously, have you ever spilled it on failing to locate the cup holder? As you keep an eye on the road, placing the beverage or food package in proper place can be tough. With the LED coasters, HeartHorse makes sure that you never have to worry about spilled beverage and the car gets a new look.
Small Size, Greater Impact
With only 6.7cm diameter and the thickness of 0.8cm, the LED cup coaster will perfectly fit inside the existing cup holder of the car, regardless of the vehicle model. Its polished surface made of acrylic has IP67 rating that makes this light accessory waterproof and dustproof. Therefore, even if you end up spilling the drink or water droplets accumulate in the coaster from the chilled beverage, it will never stop glowing or get damaged. The light board has glue sealed protection so that the light sensor and LEDs are not harmed by external elements.
