Oh hey this situation happened to me and a friend of mine, a wheelchair user. In that instance, i was the one standing in the doors until the workers did their jobs.
Except it was a bus, so the driver put the ramp down to let us on, but refused to let us leave when we got to our stop. I stood in the door yelling at him and all of the passengers joined us. It took like 5 minutes for him to put the ramp down. Another bus even showed up and was honking.
I'm terrified to think of what would have happened if there weren't other passengers to advocate for us. Driver was threatening to drive off with me still in the door. I still don't know what the hell his problem was.
Also like, in the above story, what if the wheelchair users was in a hurry? Or didn't want to miss their stop? Was it a train going to other cities?
Ok so, I just remembered how people in the comments of a tiktok video were being assholes, and I want to rant now :3
The video showed two wheelchair users at a train(?), who had just arrived to their stop to find nobody was there with a ramp so they could leave the train. One of them blocked the door so it wouldn't close, and this lasted for 15 minutes. The train was stopped for said 15 minutes. There was a button by the door, that said that it'd contact the driver when pressed. It didn't. People offered to go find the driver, and they came back with the news that there were no people in the platform to put the ramp. In the end, passengers had to go out, and place the ramp themselves, before the train could carry on. The wheelchair users had warned they were coming, and asked to have the ramp put there so they could get down. The platform turned out to have workers, they all just ran away because they'd never encountered the situation in which they needed to do this simple task.
Because of the workers' negligence, the train was forced to stop for 15 minutes.
Everyone's comments?
"Why did they block the doors and stop the train? So selfish" Selfish were workers who refused to do their job.
"What if someone had needed to get to their stop urgently? They shouldn't have stopped the train" It wasn't the disabled people's fault, it was the workers who were negligent.
"Why didn't they just wheel themselves down those steps?" They shouldn't have to risk their (expensive) chairs just because people didn't do what they were paid to do.
"If I had been in that train I would've been pissed, how dare you stop it" And you probably wouldn't have even thought about fixing the problem yourself, would you?
"Entitled assholes" Ok I'll leave you stranded in a train with everyone who could help you get down outright refusing to. Let's see who's an entitled asshole now.
If someone fights for accessibility, as much as it might be a bother for you, you do not have the right to be mad at them. If someone fights for accessibility, it is exclusively the fault of a world catered exclusively for able-bodied people.
So next time you think, "hey the consequences of these disabled people fighting for their rights bother me", instead of blaming them for this, help them solve the issue. This way, next time they will not have to fight at all.
Able bodied people, go out and fight for a fucking accessible world if you're not an asshole.

semi verbal person here:
stop trying to read people’s AAC while we’re crafting a sentence.
for context, that’s essentially the equivalent of reading someone’s mind while they’re trying to figure out what to say.

I don't care if your 9, 20, 35, or fucking 50. Your patents can go to the doctor with you. It's called your patient advocate.
See I have bad reactions to medications and sometimes those conversations with doctors go
"so what was your reaction?"
"Honestly I cannot remember"
Sometimes it's symptoms like brain fog that causes me to not remember. Sometimes I lose time. Sometimes I just sleep so much. There's a lot of reasons why I can't remember. But I always remember it was really bad the doctor should know I had a really bad reaction.
And I do not have a partner that can go to appointments with me.
So I bring a parent.
Why? Because when the doctor asks "What was the reaction" the parent actually remembers.
But the number of doctors that have infantilized me "You're a grown adult you don't need your parent."
And the thing is. I know what the doctor is doing when they do this. My parents won't let the doctor dismiss my symptoms because my parents are the ones that have to drive me to the emergency room when they get too bad. But if the doctor refuses to let my parent in "You're a grown adult" the "diagnosis" I get is always "Oh, it's just anxiety".
And I feel like doctors know when I'm having brain fog and therefore they can take advantage of me like that because I'm too confused to argue with them. "Oh. Why do you let your doctor talk to you like that". YEAH THAT'S A SYMPTOM OF MY MIGRAINES. THAT'S KINDA WHY I'M GOING TO THE DOCTOR.

help tiktok kids want to try come at you with a seam ripper at shows for wearing an anti swastika patch.
[video description: begins with a tiktok of a young person holding a seam ripper. video transcription: why would i need to bring a seam ripper to a concert? So that if you see someone with a crossed out swastika on their jacket, you can rip it off. video description: Then a stitch video of a new speaker who is using a filter that makes them look like a face on a lemon. Video transcription: TikTok is the only place that I've seen anyone saying that they don't want Anti-Swas on the scene. I have only seen this on TikTok. The majority of the people I see sharing the sentiment are young, or, they are people who are clearly not in the punk scene. Sorry! Gonna have to call you out a little bit, but you know what? Calling people out? Especially posers? Is a time-honored tradition in our community, so, get used to it!
Anti-Swas is not as commonly misunderstood to be something that came into the scene to show Jewish punks that they're safe. It came into the scene to show white "mm" (representing redaction of supremacist) and Neo-"mm" (Nazis) that they are not safe in that crowd, in that group, in that event. That is why it's worn. And the people who wear that symbology, in my scene, historically, they wear it because they are about that. Meaning that they are going to enforce. That those individuals are not welcome.
I am a punk of Jewish heritage, I wear the symbols. The Anti-Swas. I have a shirt with a huge one on the front, I love wearing it. Patches, buttons, I love it. It makes me feel proud and happy. So let me tell you if you come at me and you rip a patch off of me, or a button off of me, with that symbology I am immediately going to assume that you are a white "mm" or a Neo-"mm" and I'm gonna hand your butt to you. Very quickly. And as hard as possible. I am going to focus all of my rage on that entire subgroup onto your face. So im gonna have to break it to you to break it to you! And also if you do it with a seam ripper which is like, the fuck? A seam ripper? Don't come to a scene with a seam ripper, that is so bizarre, you can't even rip a patch off with your bare hands? And you bring a seam ripper- (laughing). But anyways, when I realize it's a seam ripper and not a small weapon, I'm going to mock you mercilessly as I beat you.
White "mm" and Neo-"mm" would like nothing more than for us to get rid of that symbology. 'Cause then they blend in better. And then they can say that they're welcome. Or they can argue that. And we don't like leaving room for them to argue. Not in my scene. Also, getting rid of the Anti-Swas symbology is a little ableist, don't you think? A lot of white "mm" and Neo-"mm" can't read. End video transcription]
i understand why people dont agree or feel comfortable with anti swastika patches, but i want to allow this jewish person to say their opinion on the matter. They personally like it and think its effective at keeping nazi fucks out of the scene and are very proud to wear it out
just the mental image of a small lil tiktok kid approaching a guy in the pit like uwu lemme seam rip off ur patch for u

Fuck it.
*said by the same person who said the last one. She had lots of ideas like this but considered herself a hardcore progressive
*ie. Maternity ward.
* this is, in fact, not how it works
*yes, this person was an old timer. She also said that in retrospect, the switch was a "christofacist" conspiracy theory.
*and I quote, verbatim, because this was so absurd I had to write it down, "When they (parents) have a kid that young they can always just have another
People already know that the medical/health fields have issues. But oh fucking Lord, it's so much worse than the average person thinks

I say, "Ableism is bad." You say, "Ableists all live in their mom's basements and don't contribute anything to society!"
I say, "Misogyny is bad." You say, "Fuck all men."
I say, "Homophobia is bad." You say, "All religious people should be shot in the streets."
I say, "Racism is bad." You say, "White people are the devil."
I say, "Murder is bad." You say, "I hate any idiotic bitch who disagrees with this."
I say, "Body shaming is bad." You say, "Everyone who disagrees is ugly and has small dick energy."
I say, "Fascism is bad." You say, "Yeah, kill all nazis!"
To which I say: you do not know why ableism, misogyny, homophobia, racism, murder, and body shaming, and fascism are wrong.
Go, go and meditate on why these things are wrong and don't come back until you arrive at the answer.

There is no such thing as reclaiming the rslur when it is still being used to attack and demean disabled people today. I know people who would feel unsafe if they heard it in public. Stop it, not everyone is online, most don't know some people are trying to reclaim it.
No, you cannot reclaim it because you're mentally disabled, it was (AND IS) heavily used against physically disabled people too. It's still used to demean all of us. It also has deeply racist roots that I personally am not educated on enough to talk about.
Its shocking and appalling to see people genuinely making the case that it "doesn't really have an effect anymore" and refusing to listen when people tell them why they shouldn't use it. You aren't taking power away from abelists, you're hurting people in your community.
Grow up, you don't need to use a slur to express yourself. You're better than that.

There’s definitely something to be said about Atsushi developing hallucination’s and being labelled a dangerous monster his whole life. Despite being the victim, he never hurt anyone but he was shunned and criminalised for just existing.
Just like a lot of people with these kind of conditions are viewed by society. When they are most likely to be the victim than the abuser. Atsushi was always told he was unwanted, that he was dangerous and the world itself had abandoned him.
He’s kicked out and homeless for 2 weeks for something he didn’t know he had anything to do with. Also Atsushi believed the tiger was after him that whole time, the tiger which was only something he could see outside of his transformations.
We know Atsushi actually saw it but to anyone else, they’d think he was hallucinating. And what was the initial response to this? To get authorities involved and have him captured. Not even just regular authorities but a private detective agency that specialises in dealing with threats the police can’t.
And this is their target.
You could even draw a parallel to Shibusawa being bought in to take Atsushi’s ability, to real life medical practitioners. I mean the method he uses is very reminiscent of electroconvulsive therapy, albeit dialed to 11. He didn’t see Atsushi as human nor care about helping him. Shibusawa was just fascinated by his condition.
And abused Atsushi under the guise of helping him. If it meant killing Atsushi in the process than so be it.

as a did system who has been fake claimed a million times over by now I'm deeply disappointed by Beth's actions and saddened by the lack of response. there's a difference between knowing and not knowing and I'm very upset by the intentionally mean response from Beth May. most of you who follow this know we have many many dndads introjects and knowing what Beth thinks about systems hurts deeply. if you're feeling upset by this too you're not alone. if you need someone to talk to about this or anything we're here.

FedNow will be released July 1st and when it's implemented the US government will be able to see ALL exchanges of money that aren't cash payments. Which means if you're disabled and on SSI or SSDI and are trying to crowdfund your expenses (because SSI and SSDI don't pay enough to survive) the US government will be able to see ALL of that and deducted that from your SSI payments (meaning you'll get less money).
Please sign this petition to end FedNow.
I'm not even on disability or at risk of needing it. But this is a huge invasion of privacy. Especially because a lot of my meds have to be ordered and delivered by mail (I get them from a special compounding pharmacy) which means I don't have the option of cash payments and it's none of the government's goddamn business how much my meds cost.
I looked to see if it was open to public commentary but it's not (commentary closed in 2021). So please call your representatives. Even if you have conservative representatives. Even Republicans are hating this proposal as a huge invasion of privacy.
Call them. Email them. Don't let that social anxiety get to you. They're YOUR representatives and they are here to represent YOU.
