disclaimer: I don't claim to be objective or an historian as this is very napjuno-biased :P English is not my first language so there will be many grammatical mistakes😭

I feel like I should first mention that Napoleon and Junot had a long history of correspondence throughout their lifetime. And Junot kept every. single. letter Napoleon wrote to him. Unfortunately none of these letters exist anymore because Napoleon sent a lackey to have them burned the moment Junot committed suicide. (I WILL NEVER FORGIVE NAPS FOR THIS 😭) so most of what we know about their relationship is secondhand from Junot's wife, Laure Junot's (Duchesse d'Abrantes) memoirs. She's also not the most reliable person so it's possible she might heavily exaggerated on some stuff

As for the letters, it's always been up for debate why Napoleon wanted them gone but my personal headcanon is they must've been written in a very romantic tone... and Napoleon was so heavily trying to suppress his feelings for Junot and burning those letters was a way of burying their relationship once and for all

OKAY, SO A BRIEF HISTORY ON NAPJUNO!!

Junot's fated meeting with Napoleon began in 1793! He was already promoted to a segreant when they met and Napoleon was already a General at the age of 24(!). It was during the Siege of Toulon that Naps had asked for someone who had beautiful handwriting to dictate a letter and Junot volunteered to write what he dictated before a cannon fire sprayed it with dirt. Naps was so impressed by his coolness that he made Junot his secretary and Aide-de-camp, and soon they'd become inseparable

soon after Toulon, Napoleon was accused of treason for his connections to Augustin Robespierre and was jailed. Junot , of course freaking out about this wrote him letter to offer an escape but Naps declined.

so after a little while Napoleon got married and found his fortune, Junot continued to follow him to his legendary Italian and Egyptian campaigns. In Egypt, he was promoted to General but he was actually not too happy with this since this means he'll be away from Napoleon often. There's also this famous (or infamous?) incident where he challenged General Lanusse to a duel ,simply because he opposed Napoleon's leadership , with this words :

«We must fight; it is essential that only one of us survive. I hate you because you hate the man that I love and admire as much as God, if not more»

sounds like a chivalric romance doesn't it? :3 It was also during this campaign there were rumours within the army comparing Naps and Junot to "Hadrian and Antinous" . of course Junot does nothing to dispel those rumours 🤓 Poor guy got wounded in the stomach and Naps didn't visit him until the last minute.

Napoleon wasn't able to take Junot with him when he left Egypt and by the time Junot made it back to France in 1800, Napoleon was already First Consul and the power differences between them already put a strain on their relationship. This was further exacerbated once Naps became Emperor.

When Naps sent Junot to Portugal , he wrote a bunch of desperate letters begging him to reappoint him as his aide-de-camp again and Napoleon once confronted to Junot's wife about the letters he wrote to him (I'm like 99% sure it probably sounded more romantic than the ones he wrote to her) . it got to the point that Laure Junot ahd to admit that Junot possibly loved Napoleon more than her and their children.

Junot was often sent away from Napoleon during from like c. 1806-1810ish? and didn't interact much except by correspondence (I think) I'm going to skip over the Portugal /Spain period

Okay so by the Russian Campaign of 1812, Junot pretty much fell out of favour from Naps and the consequences of Junot's actions almost completely destroyed their relationship. By this time period, Junot's mental and physical health was very, very fragile from his campaigns in Portugal & Spain and Napoleon was no longer the Napoleon he knew back in their youth. Napoleon was furious and even shamed him on the military bulletin. Junot was devastated at this and the thought of losing Napoleon's friendship was unbearable after 20 years of being devoted to him.

After he returned to France from Russia, there are several anecdotes mentioning how he would wanderlessly mutter out loud that  “The Emperor no longer loves me” in his apartments😭 Napoleon's love for him was all that mattered😭😭💔

There's this scene where Duroc (Napoleon's Grand Marshal of the Palace) and another friend visited Junot to comfort him and this happened:

Junot obviously didn't believe the Emperor still loved him of course💔

Soon after spending some time resting and with his family, he was appointed Governor of Illyria. (I think Naps sent him there because he wanted him out of France but Idk). His insanity finally set in and there's this infamous incident where Junot attended the ball completely naked except for his medals and hat and his battle wounds were on full display...

Soon after that, he had to be forcefully be sent back to his father's home in Montbard. It was there where he committed suicide by jumping out the window.

Junot's last letter to Napoleon is heartbreaking by the way....

“I who love you with the affection of a savage for the sun, I who am entirely yours. Well then: This eternal war that we must fight for you, I WANT NO MORE OF IT! I WANT PEACE! I want finally to repose my tired head, my sore limbs … to enjoy that which I earned … with my BLOOD! The blood of an honest man, of a good Frenchman, of a true patriot. I therefore ask, at last, for that tranquility that I earned through twenty-two years of effective service and seventeen wounds from which my blood has flowed for my country, and for your glory. 

Like I mentioned in the beginning, soon after the news of Junot's demise reached the public, Napoleon immediately sent someone to his house in Paris where his wife and brother-in-law were at and forcibly searched through Junot’s home to seize and burn his letters.

Junot's ending was sooo tragic.... he was definitely a Greek tragedy-esque figure😢 He possibly died believing Napoleon hated him when that wasn't the case. Napoleon, despite reprimanding Junot very harshly for Junot's actions (non-actions?) during the Russian campaign, he still had a soft spot for him.

I also think of like how his life would've been better without meeting Napoleon. But also thinking again how much Junot treasured his meeting with Napoleon.... ough they're so painful sdkjskdljdhljhdjfhdkjhfdj excuse me while I combust

NapJuno was basically like painful unrequited love slow burn over 2 decades . Or maybe it wasn't completely unrequited? I like to think Napoleon was in denial and constantly tried to suppress his feelings for Junot 😔😔😔 anyway Junot was so delulu... (he's my precious delulu cat) he kept hoping Napoleon would still love him like he used too pre-Emperor days. Of course those days will never come back. I guess he was always living in the past while Naps moved on 🥲💔

as my friend @ promises-of-paradise once said, I think Junot was almost definitely romantically obsessed with Napoleon. Like actual romantic love (I'm not even being delusional this is what I truly believe). Whether they actually did anything together is up for debate, but it’s clear that Junot’s feelings for Naps were a lot more intense than a regular friendship.

So, something Levraut doesn't know about himself is that he's Aromantic.

Which means for all just flirting, and gestures of affection, bad pickup lines, and getting into situations where a woman dumps her drink on his head and storms out....

When someone shows real interest in being with him, returns the gesture of flashy bouquets and cheesy lines, he feels, stressed. It's nothing like his romance novels where the girl shyly takes the boys hand after a declaration of undying love, their hearts united in purpose, or, anything of the sort. They reach out to take the hand he's clearly offering and he, recoils.

Fortunately he hasn't jilted anyone at the altar, but he HAS stood up a few would've been dates enough to have a reputation in the Drowning Wench, which he slithers out of being yelled at by insisting fantastical circumstances (some real, some invented, and some real, but retold as if they'd happened the previous evening as an excuse.)

What’s the scariest moment you have had together?

Scary moments... I mean, there isn't much that can faze her (except for me being hurt) but I'm something else (⁠•⁠ ⁠▽⁠ ⁠•⁠;⁠) You see, I'm a coward so I get scared very easily. The "scariest" moment we've had together could pretty well be literally any of the times I've gotten scared of a minor thing and she's had to cuddle me under the blankets until I calmed down. We make a great pair of opposites TwT

What’s one of the more casual dates you have had?

We go on dates pretty often... The most casual ones are whenever we go for some coffee after class and relax a little. Well, relax as much as someone as proactive as her can allow herself to. I always try to get her attention off her laptop by feeding her some sweets. She's not exactly fond of them, but she never refuses when it comes to me <3

Who is better with musical instruments?

Okay hear me out, I'm not good, but she has zero experience which automatically makes me better lmao. She's dedicated her entire life to her justice even as a kid, so I doubt she allowed herself to have any hobbies that weren't related to her purpose. I on the other hand went to a music academy for a few years to learn guitar before dropping out so that's that (⁠´⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠.̫⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠`⁠) However !! She recently gave me the motivation to get back, and it's made me happier than those years in the academy made me, so I'm extremely grateful for it. As a little "thank you", I also teach her a little. She's a quick learner, she has a sharp hearing and her hands are already calloused, so she doesn't struggle much.

He successfully managed to keep her alive and gained her trust and bonded with her as an older brother figure (although he nearly ran himself to the brink of death from exhaustion doing his best to gather the enormous quantity of food she needed to survive before she could safety hunt on her own)

- Kai, is an absolutely tiny guy in comparison to Lloyd and likes to hide in the folds, pockets, and hoods of Lloyd’s sweatshirts as a crustacean who enjoys small crevices and nooks to hide in. Lloyd is delighted by this, both very happy when Kai started to trust him enough to travel with him instead of Nya, but also to be delighted by the small shells, trinkets, and doodads that Kai leaves in his pockets as a thank you for their travels and as a way to show his affection towards the half mer.

- Cole, a rockfish, also enjoys hiding in Lloyd’s hoodie pockets as he’s a fairly small mer and it’s dangerous for him to be out in the open ocean without any cover. Cole is big enough that he doesn’t fully fit inside his hoodie pockets but he can fit most of his tail and lower torso inside. He holds onto the edges of the pockets fabric and will talk to Lloyd or look around while taking cover. He later requests that Lloyd wears articles of clothing with big stomach area pockets whenever he visits and Lloyd happily complies, seeing how much happier and calmer Cole is when he’s able to have an easier form of cover while hanging out with his friends.

2. OKAY SO basically in modern au Klaus moves to Berk with his parents when he's like,,, 12 or smt and is in Nivvie's class! They became best friends pretty quickly - and Niv also pretty quickly developed a crush on Klaus that didn't go to anything until they were like 14 (aka, when their friendship went from friendship to dating). So Siri had known Klaus for about 2 years up until that point! Niv likes bringing home friends so ofc he brought Klaus and Siri thinks Klaus is an absolute sweetheart, even if his head is a little in the clouds and she loved seeing what he and her son came up with for games to play!!

Siri likes bringing her kids and their friends snacks while theyre in her house and its no different for Nivvie and Klaus. And thats how Siri found out they were dating!! She accidentally walked in on them kissing bc they didn't hear her knock on the door. She quietly closed the door and basically. Was in panic mode bc "what if nivvie thinks we dont like him dating klaus???? How can we tell him we love him just as much now????????" even tho Niv knows his parents are both bi (Gustav is a bi disaster in my mind and Siri's bi curious!).

(Siri also genuinly didn't realise her son was lgbtq until that moment and when she told Gustav he was just gloating like "duh i noticed years ago" even if he didn't really)

They try to keep it a secret to Niv that they now know abt him dating Klaus, mainly bc Siri wants Niv to tell them on his own terms (doesn't stop Gustav from grinning and making jokes whenever Klaus is mentioned) (doesn't stop Siri from inviting Klaus to Snoggletog dinner).

Eventually Nivvie tells them!!! And all is good and well ofc <333. The only person who hates everything abt it is Sunni but thats bc Sunni hates it when theres more than 4 people in the house and not bc she hates Klaus lmao

3. Mini dragons!!! I love me a mini dragons trope and ofc it causes for a bit more drama and stuff. For gussiri + adelaides college years mainly lmao. Imagine some college students who just have mini flame throwers snuck into their bags at all times. Thats some funny stuff lmao

I think the dragons would be a bit more wild/elusive and not really used as pets by people outside Berk. And even there not really bc houses are flammable!!! Its a toss up between who wants to keep a dragon inside and who doesn't really. In their adult years gussiri would only have Fanghook inside the house bc Fanghook put up puppy eyes (Lavender couldn't care less).

1. !!!! OKAY so. Gussiri + Adelaide's college time. Theyd go to college around the same time (Addie and Siri are the same age and even tho Gustav is 1.5 years older than Siri, he got like,,, held back a grade in middle school bc he wasn't paying attention to his classes) and would probably have a blast. The college theyd go to would be outside of Berk so theyd get the living on campus treatment!!

Addie and Siri would be roommates and Addie would definately take Siri to clubs and dare her to do risky stuff (girly needs to take some risks!!) and Siri can't handle being dared that well so she'd join in on all Addie's misadventures.

Gustav would be roommates with someone he really hates (Ludvig) and they'd always be fighting over everything, so he'd also spend a lot of time in Siri and Addies room. Theyd all hang out and have fun!!! Siri and Gustav would have gaming nights together and get really competitive and have a lot of snacks all around them (send to them by Siri's dad, who owns a bakery).

Gussiri would take longer to start dating!! Theyd kiss one time during a movie but would never get back on it bc theyre nervous little sillies. Theyd also take a few years longer to have Nivvie!! Siri'd be like,,, 27-28 instead of 22. They'd want to travel the world first before settling down together (and also this makes for possible plots of them having other relationships which is always good fun).

Adelaide meanwhile is that one person in class who doesnt have to study yet gets the best grades. Shed go out on weekdays even if she has a test the next morning!!! And then she aces the test. She's just like that.

Siri'd study to become a midwife, Gustav would go into education (with a lot of classes on the side that have nothing to do with his major bc he doesn't know if he REALLY wants to go into education), and Addie studies sociology with art classes on the side. She's into drawing really detailed portraits.

Siri and Adelaide sharing a room would be chaos too,,, theyd absolutely have sleepy midnight talks that actually are abt nothing and theyd enjoy it very much (even if the next day they don't even remember what they were talking abt).

Do i have any other random notes,,, OH yeah and Siri writes letters to Astrid who is already back in Berk instead of just texting her. She's a little silly like that.

7 - How do you choose which POV to write from?

oh gosh, this is gonna sound SOOOO pretentious. I try to pick the POV that's going to either allow for the most characterization or vulnerability in the story. so either, the idea i'm writing allows for all one POV or arrange for specific events to be around a specific POV. for example: Landslide was from Vince's POV originally because I wanted to have that twist of "oh you've been kidnapped / but i want to stay" twist at the end. and then with "willing to surrender to persist" it was about subverting all the 'green flags' that Vince had seen with Adam's POV showing how underhanded and false they were. Both narrations are extremely unreliable, but in different ways, which I thought was fun.

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

anything - literally anything - that catches their attention. I love fanart so much.

It feels weird to greet someone new with so much less energy, but… Enthusiasm doesn’t really seem like the right idea at the moment. Weird, considering how brave she seemed to her on the battlefield — how quickly she was able to steel herself to take up arms in the face of danger. no matter how scattered her focus, even bernadetta would find it difficult to forget someone so cute. fashionably dressed as well, even as she had run in those heels—she is wisely careful with bernadetta and it helps, too, that she seems to be another young woman around the same age.

bernadetta didn't last long enough to even see how the others fared, but she is certain they did their best, too. it is a relief that they are safe. bernadetta may not have known any of them, but aren't they remedying that now?
