im am SO so sorry i havent been able to post in so long aaa.. at the moment i am very much not okay, unfortunately a lot of things have gone poorly very quickly but hopefully its only a temporary set back!!

tldr i finally managed to get a full time job a month & a half after moving and my car broke down for the last time almost immediately upon hiring so i now have to walk ~2hrs to and from an 8 hour shift every day + more personal stuff,, the pain & stress is Not fun for my back problems or mental health :,^)

hoping to get the bike my mom leant me repaired as soon as i have my first paycheck or 2, so fingers crossed that will make a huge difference

I'm stickin my info dump below the cut for dash reasons, but their group tag on my blog is "#rvb oc: the clovers" for more of them!!

Officially they're marked down as a fireteam called Clovers, despite not actually being part of a specific squad. The bureaucratic reasoning is that because they're all specialists to some degree, its easier to move them to where they need to be if they don't have to wait for the rest of their squad. The unofficial reason is that no officer wants to pick up the three of them for their squad because supposedly they're bad luck for any squad they officially join, but you can't put superstition on your paperwork. Being a small, 'free floating' fireteam also means they're super easy to grab to work smaller jobs like recon and escort missions, or just to beef up a preexisting squad, so they end up bouncing around between bases a lot, going where they're needed.

Pavoz is a weapons and vehicles specialist, and he gets his heavy artillery qualifications after the Reds are 'killed by the rebels'. He had the training for a while but hadn't taken the actual final test to get the red trimmed armor with everything else going on- thinking Sarge was dead was the final kick in the pants he needed to get it finalized. Both of his parents were in the Federal Army before him, and he used his mom's maiden name when he registered to allow for some distance between them and him. He did get his dad's dogtags after his dad died, despite that distance, so now Anton wears both his own tags and his dad's. He's a pretty quiet guy for the most part, and he likes to draw! As a teenager, he used to sit in the center throughway of the base his father was stationed at on the weekends and just people watch and sketch everyone he could.

Neko is a translation specialist, although he never actually gives the same answer if you ask him exactly how many languages he knows. Sometimes he gives a reasonable, if impressive number, like 5 or 7. Sometimes he just says 'yes' or 'how ever many I want' because he's a little shit like that. He's also a lying liar who lies, which you can imagine isn't be ideal for someone who is supposed to be translating for you, but he mostly keeps his bullshitting limited to answering personal questions, like where he's from, how old is he, why is he such an asshole, etc. You know, for the bit! Neko is always up for a good joke or a prank, although he definitely prefers the kind that are best delivered with a well timed comment and then watching the chaos unfold around him. He's also a regular feature in the gym at whatever base they're currently at- gymnastics, cardio and sparring are his go to workouts, and he's surprisingly flexible to boot!

Ivia is a medic! She was starting in her second semester of college for a degree in zoology and xenobiology when the protests against the Chorusan government escalated and the first whispers of civil war started cropping up in certain circles and she joined the Federal army after her father was killed in what was reported as a rebellion bombing. Her dad's UNSC hoodie that he gave her when she first moved to Armonia for her classes is her most beloved possession now, even if it is way too big for her- it reminds her of when he would take her camping, just the two of them, and she treasures both the memories and the skills she learned on those trips. She tends to be separated the most from the other two Clovers- medical personal are in high demand everywhere on Chorus, and there's a pretty limited supply. She tends to worry a lot about the boys when they're apart, but that high medic demand does keep her distracted at least. When they're together, Ivia keeps the other two from driving each other crazy- just as they keep her grounded with her tendency to get caught up thinking about the bigger picture of cause and effect, and usually overthinking about it in the process.

I just read an ask with a person telling you off pratically for mentioning height something like that in your story... And that was very disrespectful I feel...

What I mean is that person has a wild sense of entitlement to say that to a writer who's putting work out here for free for everyone's enjoyment. Furthermore, I'm unsure what their goal was but your work is absolutely YOURS I don't see why you need to adhere to everyone's personal preference. I personally, enjoy reading even if the character used doesn't necessarily fit my own features, and if something is weird to the point I can't read it, I simply go on with my day. It is not that hard to do.

Moreover, it wasn't an actual trigger worthy thing to mention, so it was acceptable that you didn't mention it, and even if it was something triggering that you maybe forgot to mention, anon could've spoken a bit better than that so you could responded in a dignified manner where you recognize it was an issue you should fix.

In any case, please accept my own apologies for having to deal with such a person. Perhaps they were having a rough day and height was the one thing that set them off. Who knows, but even if heats of moments it's a true testament to yourself how you react, and if choosing to communicate to another person they should have tried to be respectful at the very least.

Your works are very enjoyable, I read them and find myself fully engrossed, I love the way your imagination works to bring forth these stories to us. Please continue your enchanting writing. <3

I think my biggest issue was the fact that i had put it in the notes like twice (now re-labeled as warnings) before the fic itself so i truly think they could have just read the notes to confirm that they wouldn't mind the fic before they started reading but perhaps they had a bad day who knows... and you're so right i feel like a kind tone always goes a long way

Y'know, for example, how a pretty decent percentage of little girls apparently had a “horse girl phase” that all their parties had to be centered around, but they eventually moved on (Would Ari ever have one of those?); or how your favorite color was practically a personality trait (along with your favorite food, whether you liked cats or dogs [never both; unacceptable], what team you rooted for in literally any sport [ . . . but that extended to the adults, too]). Thing is, at some point, a kid's interests became a bit more complex than just “dog goes woof, so I obsess over dog” . . .

Or, okay, “Mom started making everything blue just to spite my dumb step-dad, so now I obsess over the color blue.” Or, “Yeah, my dad's the sea god, so my entire personality needs to be surfer boy chic.”

See, good thing “Percy” and “typical” weren't on the same page. (And the alphabet wasn't changing anytime soon to alter that.)

When he saw the assortment of gifts laid out across the table, he might as well have been living his best “horse girl” dreams, thriving in the “Yes, my favorite color is blue and I'm owning it” vibes, basking in the “I'm the son of Poseidon” spotlight. But maybe what really sold the whole thing, what really made it all the more special, was seeing the excited little girl who went to all the trouble to do this for him.

Yeah. That had to be it. That had to be why Percy found himself grinning like he was in the middle of a sugar high after too much cake. (He hoped that'd be the literal case soon.)

“Whoa, seriously? Did you do all of this?” Percy was pretty sure she couldn't have. (But he was also pretty sure he was prone to underestimating her.) He'd happily give her all the credit, either way. “That's so cool. Everything turned out amazing.” And he spent a few moments rolling the painted seashells over in his fingers, eventually donning that necklace as proudly as if it bore his beads from camp.

While he continued to fiddle with one of the cowrie shells—ignoring that the weight of everything on the necklace wasn't exactly distributed evenly—Percy wandered over to Ari's side. His free hand extended around her little shoulders, tugged her against his hip in half of a hug. “Thanks, Ari. I mean it,” he said. “These shells are officially the best I've ever seen.”

the other is becoming closer and comfortable with someone and u feel something shift in ur relationship, and u can tell them u would like to be more affectionate and if they r okay with that ask what they are comfortable with :3

the fun one is recognizing a mutual brain break going on realtime 👁️👁️ if you're not brave enough to say anything in the moment u can always confess later and tell them ur having Thoughts about them and get a feel for how they feel abt you. you can offer them More and it doesn't have to change ur relationship with each other.

the common thread is being communicative and talking about boundaries, and if ur having a hard time w emotional intimacy i think a great place to start is being more open and honest ♡⁠ wear ur heart on ur sleeve. even if u don't feel comfortable or brave enough to tell ur friends u love them, there's nothing stopping you from telling them Why u love them. i love complimenting ppl and thanking them and telling them i had fun, i tell them when they look cute and love their outfits and what i love specifically or I'll hype up ur jewelry or hair change etc; if I'm feeling sentimental about something between us i will tell u how i feel and make sure u know u are appreciated.

it's a lovely conversation starter but sometimes u just find someone u rly click with and as a dynamic i think practicing openness and honesty with each other on the little things makes room for u to be comfortable communicating bigger more sentimental and intimate things later on if ur friendship is going like that ♡⁠

as for your question!!!

honestly that’s not really something i consciously think of when writing, i think it’s more like. a skill you build up? kind of?? word variation is super important when it comes to any kind of writing, and in xreader fics especially the second-person pronoun is obviously super common… so i understand your struggle!!!!

honestly my first tip is just. to write your fic, then go back and change stuff!! if you notice a particular paragraph where you is used so much that it feels repetitive, try to change that. bend the sentences in ways where you doesn’t need to be used in the first place!! i think that kind of editing can be really fun :> this is a super simple example but like.

”you sigh. you then roll your eyes.”

^ this clearly doesn’t flow the best!!

instead, you could tweak the second sentence to be more like this:

”you sigh — followed by a roll of your eyes.”

now it sounds a lot better. there are a ton of different ways to go about it, and it’s an easy fix!!

you is usually used when you’re describing actions, so another idea could be to describe a certain action or movement in more depth to fill the gap between that action and the next.

you sigh — the breath flowing from your parted lips with an air of defiance. he quirks his brow. ”whatever,” comes a roll of your eyes.

…. or something. I’M JUST SPITBALLING HERE TO BE CLEAR i’m really not good at giving advice on writing i think bUT. i hope you understand what i’m saying!! learning to bend language like that is a lot of fun and i think it comes to you naturally once you’ve gotten used to it. :3

so basically — you don’t necessarily have to avoid using you while writing, because you can always go back and edit parts that sound repetitive!!! but thinking about repetition while you’re writing is also good….. a small thing i do sometimes is to replace you with a — removing the possesive pronoun from the action itself!! so instead of ”you sigh.” it becomes ”a sigh.” followed by something that lets your readers know the sigh came from you.

a sigh — the breath flowing from your parted lips with an air of defiance.

now there isn’t a you at all!! but your readers still know that. you sighed. and even the emotion behind it…… i’m not very good at show don’t tell as you can see LMAO but i think it still works!!!
