Regarding Putin signing an updated russian nuclear doctrine, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov literally admitting that it was "timely", after Joe Biden gave Ukraine permission to use ATACMS on russian territory, my thoughts:
The updated doctrine says nothing new. Everything about "an attack by a non-nuclear-armed state, but with the support of a nuclear-armed state would be regarded as a joint attack" and "a nuclear response could be taken in the face of a conventional attack that poses a critical threat against russia's sovereignty and territorial integrity" is synonymous with previous wordings in russian documents.
The mentioning of an attack by a member of a coalition (obviously talking about NATO) being regarded as an attack by all of them is not something that can be held against russia. That's actually just reciprocity. After all, NATO is literally founded on an attack against one of its members being regarded as an attack on all of them. This is just based on how NATO operates.
The timing is part of Putin's strategy which he's used for a long time: Prepare something threatening, but then wait for some kind US action to reveal it, in order to appear as though he's just responding to some kind of US threat. They've been talking about updating the nuclear doctrine for months.
Factually, Putin's talk about how the US would be involved in the war with russia if Ukraine used ATACMS against their territory, because Ukraine would supposedly need NATO specialists to fire them, is nonsense. Ukraine has been using ATACMS against russian forces on their territory for a while now. How does that differ from loading coordinates on russian territory into those missiles?
Biden's permission for Ukraine to use ATACMS on russian territory doesn't even change much, because the range of ATACMS means that, fired from Ukraine, they can't reach beyond russia's border regions.
The talk about how Ukraine using ATACMS on their territory is supposedly an escalation, is, of course, complete hypocrisy, given the fact that russia has been using similar tactical missiles, including nuclear-capable ones, against Ukrainian territory since day one. Just as hypocritical is the idea that Ukraine would need NATO specialists to launch them at russian territory, which would make NATO involved, because that's not true and because russia has involved North Korea, by getting 50.000 of their soldiers, dressed in russian uniforms, to fight for them, including to operate North Korean weapons systems which North Korea has also supplied.
I don't think I need to talk about how insane the insinuation, that any conventional attack could merit a nuclear response, is. No non-nuclear attack can merit a nuclear response.
russia's nuclear doctrine is theatrics. Factually, any nuclear-armed nation can use nuclear weapons whenever they want. Heck, the United States doesn't constantly sling threats, and they're the nuclear-armed nation that never claimed to have a 'No first strike'-policy. On the evening of his impeachment, a drunk Richard Nixon literally told Congress "You know, Congress, I can just pick up the phone and in thirty minutes, millions'll be dead." So, what's changed, is that the russian regime has gone from being able to use nuclear weapons whenever they want, to being able to use nuclear weapons whenever they want.

The UK is joining the US in permitting Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia with longer range missiles they've supplied. France may do the same. This seems to be a response to Russia's attack on Ukrainian infrastructure over the weekend.
Britain is expected to supply Storm Shadow missiles for use by Ukraine on targets inside Russia, now that the US president, Joe Biden, has agreed to do the same for the similar American long-range Atacms weapon. Keir Starmer, the prime minister, said at the G20 summit that the UK recognised it needed to “double down” on its support for Ukraine, while diplomatic sources briefed they expected other European countries to follow the US lead. The prime minister said that, while he was “not going to get into operational details”, he recognised the need to do more to help Ukraine, whose electricity network was seriously damaged by a wave of Russian bombing on Sunday. [ ... ] Ukraine wants to be able to strike barracks, fuel and logistics hubs, and airbases deeper inside Russia to blunt Moscow’s relentless attacks on their country. Russia, by contrast, is able to strike targets anywhere in Ukraine. Biden had refused to allow permission for long-range missiles to be used inside Russia for years but finally relented on Sunday, and said that Ukraine could use Atacms missiles to try to halt an expected counter-offensive by an estimated 50,000 Russian and North Korean forces in Kursk. [ ... ] Putin had said Moscow would “take the appropriate decisions based on the threats that we will face” and previously suggested Moscow could supply long-range weapons to other countries with the aim of attacking western targets. Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s foreign minister, said that the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron, had already said Paris was open to consider greenlighting the use of its missiles to strike on Russian soil.
Vladimir Putin is being highly hypocritical as always. The war was started by Putin's illegal and unprovoked invasion almost 1,000 days ago. Without Russia's attack on Ukraine, there would be no war. It's really that simple. If Russian forces left Ukrainian territory, the war would end minutes later.
Putin is in blatant violation of the United Nations Charter (1945), the Helsinki Accords (1975), and the Budapest Memorandum (1994). The self-serving drivel he concocted to justify his war of aggression has no legal basis. Putin is simply trying to restore the decrepit old Soviet Union of his youth in all but name. If he is not smitten down in Ukraine then he will just continue to do the same thing elsewhere.

Lame duck United States President Joe Biden has again just thrown fuel to the fire in Ukraine by announcing not only authorization of use of US “longer range missiles” to target deeper into Russia but also the supply of universally banned anti-personnel mines to Volodymyr Zelensky, throwing a monkey wrench into the potential peace deals which the incoming Trump administration may have in mind. More importantly, this has triggered Russian President Vladimir Putin to formally sign Russia’s new nuclear doctrine lowering the threshold of its nuclear response to direct threats to the Motherland. Zelensky, on the last leg of his political life, quickly used Biden’s move to stoke up the fire – firing sic ATACMS missiles at Bryansk in Russian territory. All these have sparked panic across the globe fearing the start of escalation to a nuclear Third World War as the world awaits Russia’s retaliation for the very grave provocations.

UNITED STATES SENDS LONG-RANGE ATACMS MISSILES TO UKRAINE
A report published by Reuters on Wednesday says the Biden administration has quietly sent long-range ATACMS missiles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The report claims the missiles are for use to fend off "Russian invaders," however, the Ukrainian military over the last year has used its HIMARS missile systems to bombard civilian areas of Russian and Ukrainian cities under the control of the Russian government, including attacks on Russian oil fields.
The long-range missiles were included in the latest $300 million military aid package for Kiev, approved by the Biden administration on March 12th, and were used for the first time in a strike on a Russian airfield in Crimea on April 12th, according to a U.S. official who spoke with Reuters under condition of anonymity.
The long-range ATACMS missiles have a range of up to 300km (187mi), which the Pentagon previously opposed sending to Ukraine out of concerns over U.S. military readiness and worries that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would use the missiles to strike deep into Russian territory.

I've noticed Biden's position has been that Israel can do whatever it wants to civilians with no consequence but Ukraine is obliged to keep allowing Russia to kill as many civilians as it can so we can befriend them in the future.

In addition to bombing maternity hospitals, playgrounds, and apartment buildings, Putin's war criminals are now bombing cathedrals.
This was the second time that the vast, sand-yellow Transfiguration Cathedral, which sits in the heart of Odesa’s Unesco-listed historic centre, had been attacked: in the 1930s, it was torn down during Joseph Stalin’s atheism drive. On Sunday morning, the rebuilt version was hit during a Russian airstrike on the city. A missile blew a large hole in the roof, collapsed the altar and left several walls charred by fire. It was one of several strikes on the southern port city in the early hours. Schools, residential buildings and a revered 19th-century mansion also suffered damage. One person was killed and 14 were hospitalised, the regional governor said.
Central Odesa is a designated World Heritage Site.
Putin is having another major hissy fit. His three-day "special operation" to wipe out Ukraine as a country began on 24 February 2022 and marks its 17th month today. He is currently attacking the port city of Odesa because that is where most of Ukraine's grain is exported. If Putin can't have Ukraine, developing countries can't have grain.
Russia has been hitting Odesa relentlessly since Moscow last week pulled out of a deal allowing Ukrainian grain to be exported from the city’s Black Sea ports. The Russian defence ministry has also threatened to treat commercial ships attempting to dock in Odesa as military targets in order to ensure that no grain can leave the city. “Russia’s current strategy is to destroy Odesa. They would never really attack foreign-flagged ships coming to Odesa, so they are attacking Odesa to make it clear that it’s too dangerous here,” said Oleksiy Honcharenko, a Ukrainian MP from the city. He said Ukraine urgently needed more air defence systems. Even by the standards of Russia’s ruthless war strategy, a missile strike on a historic cathedral – one that was consecrated by the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, no less – was a shocking development. The priests at the scene were dumbfounded. “This is barbarism, it’s terrorism. The people who did this are not people at all,” said Myroslav Vdodovych, the cathedral’s chief priest, as he walked through the ruins in a fluorescent orange helmet, taking calls on his mobile phone and directing emergency workers to spots where there was still rubble to clear.
Of course it's terrorism. Russia has become a terrorist state under Putin. Putin runs the country like the head of a fascist mafia.
We need to send ATACMS and F-16s to Ukraine. Fortunately Ukrainian pilots are already in the process of being trained to fly F-16s.
A lot of the terrorist missiles used against Ukraine are fired from planes flying over the international waters of the Black Sea. Ukraine needs the ability to shoot down Putin's flying terrorists. Let them sleep with the fishes along with the Moskva.
