outside of the fact that everyone who has sex is murdered by the narrative, this is a surprisingly chill portrayal of female sexuality? these teen girls are horny and actively enjoying Getting It On with their boytoys. no pushy boyfriends sneaking in through their bedroom windows--these ladies are taking the initiative to sneak out and GET SOME. one of them gets laid and then immediately orders her boyfriend to get her a beer. (yes she gets Slashered soon afterward, but so does the boyfriend so honestly, gender equality.) yes the Final Girl is the only one not having sex, but she's not bullied for that, nor are her friends slut shamed except possibly by being murdered by the narrative

actually the only character who is shown being morally condemned on-screen is michael myers. specifically FOR his violent overreaction to other people's sex lives. (people he is spying on). metaphorically, the villain is American Puritanism sticking its judgy nose into other people's business.

but actually the real villain is the doctor. guy's a judgemental, shaming, pathologizing asshole. and he's been in charge of michael's care since he was SIX YEARS OLD? kid never had a chance. i'd go on a killing spree too

also the parents. where are the parents? it's halloween night and all the teenage girls are home babysitting their younger siblings? come to think of it, michael's first victim was his own older sister, whom he killed while she was babysitting him. teen girls are really shouldering a labour burden here. maybe parentification is the true villain

side note: mike commits his first murder wearing a clown costume...which is never referenced again? his 'iconic' costume is a generic mask and wig and jumpsuit, when we coulda had a Killer Clown Michael Myers??? travesty

so much happened in this whole episode but i’m still on fig infiltrating ruben’s dream, making it look like the place where his friend was murdered, and then disguising herself as kipperlilly & repeatedly saying different variants of “somebody needs to take the fall for this, and it’s not going to be me. it’s going to be you.” while adaine as the elven oracle shows up next to her. can you imagine waking up from that, the idea of a horrible truth being pinned on you by your friend to save her own skin while the personification of fate and destiny stands there, almost as a promise that this is GOING to happen to you. we don’t even know if this kid is guilty. my god.

Rereading the Our Worlds at War tie-in again and God I miss their friendship every day

I'm seeing sum ppl being like "Sukuna is being sooo unreasonable reacting so angrily bc Yuuji wants to kill him like what did he expect!!!" but Sukuna's not angry bc of that. I think he'd even prefer Yuuji to insta kill him. That whole time he was in the places of Yuuji's memory he's been waiting for Yuuji to get it over with, already. Expecting Yuuji to kill him.

But then

Yuuji basically tells him: That just now? Yeah, it was me giving you a chance. Because, even though i hate you, i dont want to kill you. Because you are human. You don't have to play this role.

And that's what enrages Sukuna so fucking much. The brat has the gall to feel sorry for him. Him, the strongest. Him, someone unabashedly uncaring, unfeeling beyond repair. Evil.

Sukuna is not like other people. He doesn't see himself as people; that's why he can't ever find an "equal", can't even fathom finding one. He doesn't have a role, he does what he wants, because he can.

At this point he can endure Yuuji killing him. He had help, he got lucky, idk, whatever excuse he's probably telling himself will do. He will face it without feeling a thing; not anger, not sadness, no happiness, no fear. He's above it all... But Yuuji feeling sorry for him? Like he's above Sukuna?

Yuuji is threatening Sukuna, yes, but that's not all. He's showing him everything that will be taken away from him. From Sukuna, by Yuuji.

Like Sukuna is like any other mortal who walks the Earth. Vulnerable. A human being instead of a monster.

love thinking about the underworld siblings just being absolute fucking creatures. they stare at you too long after a conversation has ended and quickly look away if you notice and look back. they sit catatonic on the floor of a pitch black room and get mildly annoyed when someone turns the lights on. they get each other in a distinct way that no one else ever really could and hold hands creepily like the twins in the shining. nico notices the tiny little things of another person's life and when they ask him How he knows he says "the ghosts in your walls told me" (it's a joke and no one laughs). hazel has a fun night on the town with friends when suddenly she lays her fingertips to the earth and says "oh... someone was murdered here in 1998" and the mood is killed instantly. they have a shared macabre that looms over others like the presence of an urn in the corner of a room. percy/frank/will/jason/reyna are used to it but even they get caught off guard by their behavior sometimes. they need to be Weird in a way that makes other people uncomfortable

scattered thoughts on sevika and body modification

As I was rewatching Arcane (as one does) I noticed that Sevika's arm actually wasn't blown off in the blast, just really burnt:

This made me curious as to at what point her arm was amputated: did it become necessary to amputate while she was receiving care immediately following the explosion, or did she eventually decide to amputate? How does each scenario provide different lens to interpret her character?

Save for her prosthetics (and labret piercing), Sevika doesn't really participate in body modification, which is common in Zaun (and kinda atypical for people working in/around the chembarons).

On the topic of her labret piercing, she only gets it after Silco's death and the collapse of the chembarons. I think I could do another post on all of her character designs, but to sum up my thoughts on her post s2 time skip design: it feels like she "grew into" herself more (and generally got her shit together). Her labret piercing definitely feels like it's apart of that.

Onto her (prosthetic) arms: she has a total of four variations across the whole series. With her shimmer-fueled arm she has the "top loader" (as seen in her first fight with Vi in season 1) and the "front loader" (shimmer vials load in her forearm, also the one with the sword). Her gamble-core arm seems to be much more similar, with the only major difference being the shoulder pauldron. Post s2 time skip Sevika has scrapped the speaker, lights, and score counter (and the paint).

I also like that we see Sevika modding/fixing her own arm, it really doesn't make sense for someone as self-reliant as Sevika to outsource maintenance for her prosthetic.

Ill probably add on/edit to this post as I develop my thoughts..... but if yall have thoughts and want to yap pls yap with me i love Sevika analysis.
