Jeez, you'd think he'd be used to it by now. Not to make light of his bodily autonomy being betrayed yet again, but like...

This interaction starts out so promising. Clark's tone when he says "You okay?" and Lex's response are very early seasons vibes. It slips a bit when Lex says "I was the good guy here" - but oh, that desire to be seen as good, especially in Clark's eyes. That drive that's never fully been stamped out, either by Lionel's machinations or simply by bad writing, is still so strong in him. He wants to do the right thing - desperately - and that's the instinct that leads him astray. When the writing doesn't undercut that drive (ahem Aqua), it's so plainly obvious.

And then, of course, he brings up Clark's snooping in Lana's dorm room, and while he's entirely justified in saying it, obviously Clark gets defensive and it all turns into a pissing contest over Lana. Sigh.

I also think that the writers wrote themselves into a corner with Lex. I mean, we know they did, but in this instance I'm talking about the fact that he learns that the visitors from the ship are weakened by the meteor rocks. The fact that he doesn't extrapolate from this and even try to use it on Clark is a bit baffling? Yeah, fine, he's seen Clark bleed a few times, but he still knows something's up - he demonstrates that by pressing Lionel about calling Clark special just two episodes ago. There's no reason for him not to at least consider it - aside from the fact that it doesn't serve the storyline at this point. Which I GET - your characters are there to serve the narrative, not the other way around - but it's just stupid. They made him so intelligent and observant that they had to walk him back whenever he got too smart for the plot and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Annoying.

what you don’t seem to understand is that statistics and surveys are JUST as subjective as things like theory. you seem to put things like surveys in a “practical, unbiased truth” category and things like memoirs or theory discussions about people’s actual real-life lived experience in a “impractical, biased falsehoods” category. but that’s YOUR personal judgement, not a universal opinion, and you can’t treat it like it is. statistics and surveys can be just as hypothetical and flawed as “personal experience”. in fact, most of the surveys you pull statistics from were questions answered by individuals about their personal experiences. so like, stop trying to push this arbitrary divide between “theory” and “evidence”.

Dude, Fite-Club I know this is you. You're the only person who will ever make a claim that statistics are AS SUBJECTIVE as something that is PURELY subjective.

I'm not saying statistics are perfect. But trying to argue that RECORDED TRENDS OF LARGE NUMBERS OF PEOPLE are not less subjective than SINGULAR PEOPLE's experiences is only a claim you could make.
