we are not talking enough about abby and tommy

i feel like we need to talk about the implications of their relationship.

abby and buck met a couple months into his probationary year and a couple months after tommy and her broke up. we know tommy didn't come out until he was at harbor station.

meaning they dated while tommy was at the 118, meaning abby knew knew that buck was working at her ex's firehouse from the beginning. she knew from their first call together and it definitely makes it feel like she was using buck - especially since she never told buck her ex worked there.

i love josh but i think his speech about not judging tommy for his actions while in the closet ignores buck's true concern. buck knew what state abby was in when tommy and her broke up, clearly she didn't get into the details, but he knew her mom was sick and how lonely she was after the break up. i'm pretty sure abby thought her mom was the reason for the break up in the first place. which makes his comments about her going "nuts" a lot worse. her mom was dying.

maddie's "you're worried he'll hurt you the same way" coupled with buck's denial - only for him to be hurt the same way. because if tommy could fake a relationship for years, make abby feel like she is the reason for the break up, call her nuts for moving on the way she did while her mom was dying, and then not tell buck about it for six fucking months, of course he could be in relationship and never truly be all the way in.

both abby and tommy were transformative relationships to buck but they were both one sided relationships.

Do you think this is something that's gonna end up happening in the new season?

(I personally do, it just makes the most sense in the context of the show. It's a drama, all the couples have had some wump, including Karen. If Tommy stays long and established (which I really hope for) that's just the most obvious thing. Plus, Buck has been in that hospital bed enough already.)

i love tommy, and because i love him i think they need to hurt him.

whether it's a chopper crash or some other work emergency where he finds himself a victim (since he's a first responder it tracks that he would get hurt at work, because an out-of-work accident might require too much detached plot) seeing tommy hurt is a positive thing for two important reasons:

1) buck gets to worry over him and take care of him (we might even get some post-incident hurt/comfort but that's besides the point) which will highlight how much buck cares about him.

2) it's like you said: the longterm partners have all been hurt, so for tommy to join the ranks would be the show pointing at him like: see? we hurt him because we love him. he survived because we're keeping him.

(and yeah, buck needs a break from the hospital bed for awhile!)

Hi can everyone stop throwing around claims about biphobia and whatever else! You can of course be sad about bucktommy breaking up if you liked the ship but to imply it’s the networks biphobia or some bullshit like that is just insane! Buck is bisexual that’s canon, he doesn’t have to kiss men or be in a relationship with a man to make his sexuality valid in any way and that’s exactly what yous are implying by saying the BT breakup is biphobic! They aren’t erasing bi buck, they aren’t erasing queer characters, they have had queer characters since the start of the show. If they didn’t want buck in a relationship with a man they wouldn’t have done it in the first place! They would have allowed buck to have his bi realisation and not put him in a relationship. The BT breakup is just another plot point that has no sinister reasoning behind it! Yous are acting like in the breakup scene Tommy didn’t say stuff about how this isn’t his last, Tommy was just his first implying there is more relationships to come. There is no erasure happening. To tank reviews of an episode and complain to show runners under the guise of biphobia or interference from show runners/network instead of just saying you wish BT was endgame is insane and everyone needs to take a breather.

Early 911 prediction Tommy was working as a spy for the congresswomen but actually fell in love with Buck somewhere along the way. Bonus points if he's been feeding her lies but still doesn't know how to come clean to Buck about everything.

Gotta admit, after last night's episode, I was completely lost as to what the conflict was gonna be between Buck and Tommy that was gonna lead to them eventually breaking up.

But now that I think about it, I think Tommy is going to finally make his feelings known (most likely without meaning to) that he's envious of the family dynamic within the current 118 and that he wants to experience it.

This will lead to Buck questioning how he never experienced it or made any strong connections with anyone if he was in the 118 through both Gerrard AND Bobby. And that's gonna lead to Buck finding out about Tommy's past behavior under Gerrard and how he treated Chim and Hen and then it's gonna make Buck confront Tommy about longing for that connection when he could've had it had he not been a bigot.

The two are gonna fight and then BOOM, breakup.
