The thing about the "one day we will wake up to his obituary" meme
is that it's a lie.
JD Vance just turned 40. Stephen Miller is 39. Nick Fuentes is in his mid 20s and Andrew Tate in his late 30s. Tulsi Gabbard is just 43, Kash Patel is 45. And statistics (as well as your own lived experience, I'd imagine) shows that white men in their teens and twenties have veered SHARPLY right in the past ten years.
Yes, Trump will likely not outlive most of us; he's pushing eighty and is clearly in poor health. McConnell is in his 80s and retiring anyway; even Henry Kissinger, may his memory be a pox, eventually died.
But it's not so much that that's cold comfort to the elderly and the terminally ill, to the people who were and are and will be outright killed by the bastards whose obituaries we long for. It's that you cannot, if you're young and healthy, reasonably believe that when the bad ones die, more bad ones — who are your age, who are younger, and who one day will be young enough to be your grandkids — won't replace them.
Evil is old, but it's not the sole province of the elderly. Think of the classmate who delighted in being cruel to you; the twentysomething coworker who made your work life a misery; the thirtysomething friend-of-a-friend who outright scared you. None of those people were awful because they were old; they were just awful. And they won't change, and they won't stop hurting others if they have any power to do so.
We cannot be content to outlive them; we have to defeat them, now. Let's not wait.

A fun little Les Mis - Count of Monte Cristo crossover that lives in my head - Valjean and Edmond Dantès meet some time after Dantès escapes from prison
Valjean ends up caught up in his plans, trying to do damage control
Partially inspired by this fic :>

No transmigration au where Airplane started a new story and invited/hired cucumber-bro as his beta reader/editor. The thing was that Airplane was writing under a different name, and SY also used a different name. Both are trying to keep their two accounts separate. Airplane would find out first and use that knowledge to fuck with SY by writing characters that sounded familiar.
For example: "Hongxin was revered as the war hero; dozens of beasts had met their end after crossing paths with him. Anytime someone looked at his face and saw that mole underneath his eyes, they would know who he was and immediately clear his path." However, it also included differences that made SY unable to tell if it was inspired by PIDW or just a generic xianxia character. Instead of having a sister, this character hates his family and slaughters them when they try to sell him to Demons.
Airplane did this shit over and over again until SY finally caught on. SY being SY. He would flip his balls and send Airplane a 20k Word doc complaining about the last chapter of PIDW and make Airplane rewrite the ending for him. Then, they became roommates...
And they were roommates!

insecure soap whose insecurities don't stem from a place of inadequacy
he knows how talented he is, how hard he’s worked to get where he is; that he didn’t land a spot on an exclusive highly skilled taskforce for no reason. he's confident about his skills; doesn't brag or show off, doesn't need to because he knows he'll always live up to and surpass expectations the second someone doubts him
but he also knows he can always be better
there's records left unbroken, mental walls he can shatter; if he just keeps pushing, keeps training he'll be more. he's always trying to beat himself, not in search of validation or outward assurance but because he knows beyond a shadow of a doubt that his yesterday self was lesser
slower
weaker
every muscle that burns and tears heals stronger so he dedicates himself to ripping them apart. scarred skin doesn't flinch from heat so he welcomes the burns. he’s strict with his diet and stricter with his schedule, he spends hours in the gym and longer at the range and not a minute of rest goes by without him thinking it’s time wasted when he could be improving, always improving
soap knows he's good
because he knows he can be great
and he won't stop until he is, no matter how many times he needs to break himself to get there
