Undecided about D&D 5.5 and the 2024 rules

Pros:
Weapon Mastery
Cunning Strike
stat boosts and skills moving from Species to Backgrounds
the PHB rules glossary and the DMG toolkit (for ease of use)
origin feats, and general feats giving +1 to a stat
easier to homebrew player-facing rules (because feats and subclasses are more streamlined)
some big changes, some minor tweaks
Cons:
power creep (full assessment pending until the MM comes out)
uneven power creep
stealth makes no sense
they fully bailed on the skill system
strains suspension of disbelief even more
less support for homebrewed monsters

The CR system needs playtesting with the new Monster Manual, so assessment pending. We're probably gonna see much more dangerous monsters: Cure Wounds straight up doubled the hp it heals, and healing in general is a lot more generous. I don't know if that bloat was necessary, or motivated by anything other than "players can do MOAR damage now, buy our new books to be COOLER!", followed by a domino effect.
At this point, I'm torn between incorporating a few 5.5 rules to 5e, or a few 5e rules to 5.5, or whole other subsystems to either (I'm looking at the skill system of Level Up a.k.a. Advanced 5th Edition, it's interesting), or abandoning D&D altogether (because I'm tired, not because it's that bad). But I'm pretty sure I won't adopt 5.5 as is.

First time clearing without a full DMG Boost! My hands hurt, but motivation came in the form of Abysm Sovereign. Just had to get full medals on his first season! I'm absolutely in love how with he plays and I wanted to rep him well. 🐉

✦ Team A: Weakened build. Buzzer beater clear. Took some effort and can still be optimized better. ✦ Team B: Crit build. 1:31 kill. By far the hardest one for me this season, but also my proudest clear this season! First exclusive claymore, baby! Gotta use it! 😎 I have a lot of notes for this one so bear with me. General notes: - Basic attack combo: 3 basic attacks -> animation cancel -> 3 basic attacks. Extend to 4 basic attacks if the timing is awkward, like if it clips into preparing for a parry. - If Petro Golem does the dive attack at any point, reset the fight. - Healing up to at least 80% before entering Fury mode makes a difference. Worth to do it at the start of the golem fights, and right before shieldbreak. - Don't manually charge active skill, it's not worth it. Use parry to trigger it instead. - When not parrying, or active skill is down, perfect dodge is worth triggering for more damage and healing. - Hold off using support skill until in Fury mode for more damage. More specific notes: - First mob: 1 active skill ASAP, kill by 3-4s cooldown on the resonance timer. - For Petro Golem: 1 parried active skill out of weakness; 1 uncharged active skill and 1 support skill during weakness. - For Ignis Golem: 1 uncharged active skill ASAP; At least 1 parried active skill out of weakness; Oath and 2 active skills during weakness. - The latest that I can delay the last shieldbreak is 1:41 on the timer. The sooner the better, but not at the expense of healing up or lining up a good parry. I hope some of what's written above is helpful to any R0 AS havers! ✦ Team C: Crit build, only to match the fluctuation. I spent so much energy on Teams A and B that I overleveled this stage by a lot so I can coast. Easy clear.

Warhammer 40,000 Balance Changes for December 11, 2024: Adeptus Custodes
Custodes is one of those armies that looks fine until you dig into the data. Then the picture sours really quickly. They just don't seem to have what it takes to hang with the best players most of the time. And yes, I'm aware that the winner of WCW used Custodes, but very few players are seeing results like that.
Their detachments aren't doing well either. Talons of the Emperor is pretty much the only one that seems to be doing anything. Most players seem to prefer Shield Host, but it's just not getting the results. Meanwhile no one is is using Auric Champions or Null Maiden Vigil. Their Datasheets are in a similar state. Successful lists seem to be very reliant on Blade Champions and Wardens, and often take the expensive Forge World Caladius tank.
But you know what's a cool looking model? The Dawn Eagle Jetbike. Do you know what really hasn't been playable for all of 10th Edition? The Dawn Eagle Jetbike. Well GW likes them too, and wants to make them playable.

It's time for some all new stats! Bam! +1 Toughness! Bam! +1 Wound! Bam! How does a S10 AP-3 Dmg D6+1 Salvo Launcher sound? Bam! How about Hurricaine Bolters at AP-1 and Dmg 2?
But we're not done yet! That Quicksilver Execution rule I thought was so cool on launch that turned out to be a dud? It now works on Normal moves too. No more choosing between mortals and shooting or charging. You just get to do it all, like the Imperium's greatest heroes should!
However, theses buffs aren't free. Shield Captains on Dawn Eagles are going up 20 pts, while Praetors went up 5 pts per model. Still, these are meaningful buffs. I think the extra Wound alone more than justifies this. And with the added damage they can deal now, they're going to be pretty good. Add in their gift from the Red Gobbo and it's a good day to be in the 10,000.

“I’m going to start you all out at level five,” Jacob said, passing out blank character sheets. “That will give you more options.”
Chelsea groaned, “More options? How am I supposed to pick with what options we already have? It’s so confusing.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you out,” Jacob said confidently.
“I’m with Chelsea,” Jazz said. “We’re all new to D&D. Shouldn’t we start with the basics?”
“Trust me, level one isn’t nearly as fun as level five,” Jacob said. He gave everyone a copy of the Player’s Handbook. Why he had so many copies was anyone’s guess. “Start with level one and I’ll help you level up. It’s a lot easier than you think.”
“If you say so…” Chelsea said. She wrote down the first name that came to mind on her character sheet: Khend. “Well, I’m definitely going to be a healer.”
“So you’ll want cleric,” Jacob said, pointing to the class spot on her sheet.
“Is there anything to do with technology?” Tucker asked eagerly.
“Gnomes have the tinker feature,” Jacob said. “That’s probably as close as you’re going to get. I don’t have any of the artificer material. I just have the basic books.”
“Okay, whatever you say, man,” Tucker said, writing things down.
“Danny,” Jacob started, “you can be an Aasimar. That’s a special class in the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Here, I’ll show you.”
“What’s an Aasimar?” Danny asked.
“It’s an angel basically,” Jacob said. “It’s the closest we’ll get to a ghost.” He moved over to Danny’s spot at the table and flipped open the DMG to the correct page. “Here, read up on it.”
“Thanks,” Danny muttered.
“Is there anything relating to motivational speaking?” Jazz asked.
“Actually, there is!” Jacob replied. “The bard is the perfect class for you.”
“Oh, cool!” Tucker said suddenly. “The rogue looks totally fun. I’m picking rogue.”
“Good choice,” Jacob said. He was glad someone was getting into the spirit of things. “What about you, Sam? You haven’t said anything yet.”
“I’m thinking this demonic-looking thing is good,” Sam said casually, pointing to the image of the tiefling.
“That’s a tiefling,” Jacob told her. “You might try the sorcerer class to go with it.”
“Nice,” Sam said.
The six of them continued working on characters for a few minutes, Jacob jumping around the table to help where needed.

Around 1100hrs UTC this Friday morning Japanese skipper Kojiro Shiraishi suffered damage to his mainsail onboard DMG MORI Global One.
After his IMOCA gybed wildly twice in succession he sustained five broken battens with some of the mainsail cars becoming dislodged from the mainsail rail. The boat and he mast are otherwise intact and Kojiro is uninjured. The skipper has altered course to the NE to find some better weather conditions to effect some repairs.
