Territory Status: Day 14

This is Michael Adams, back with what should be our last update for the day. In this segment, we'll be going over what planets have changed hands since our last broadcast.

Acamar IV's defense fell as predicted, as Helldivers prioritized the completion of Turing. With Turing finally secured, all three planets necessary for the first phase of operation "Enduring Peace." are now under our control. While we wait for the scientists on Moradesh to complete their work, SEAF must maintain control of all three planets until the 30th. Speaking of Moradesh, the two threatened planets adjacent to it, Cirrus and Veld, are still undergoing defense campaigns. While the forces on Veld are barely keeping up with the spawning of bugs, Cirrus appears to be destined to fall. Let's hope there are no consequences for Moradesh when it happens.

Meanwhile, SEAF's progress on all Automaton-occupied planets is at a total loss. All contested planets aside from Vernen Wells are in their worst possible states, and our forces are slowly losing what ground they have left on Vernen Wells itself. Despite this, the bolted menace has made no further advances since the loss of their petafactory. We can only assume they are regrouping and planning their next attacks very carefully.

Treat #2 : The Reformer

This treat is a set inspired by the Dress reform movement (a bit of the Aesthetic movement too, lots of overlap between these two) from the 1895 to the late 1900s.

Like the Aesthetic movement, the Reform dress movement dates back to the mid 1800's. It aimed at making women garments less constricting (for reasons varying from praticality, political leanings, supposed health downsides of corsets...). It was linked to feminism especially at the start and gave birth to the bloomers in 1851 for example.

Reform dress usually involved making it so that the main weight of the clothing would be carried by the shoulders and torso instead of solely the waist and thus get rid of the corset and masses of underskirts, to establish a "more practical type of dress that would facilitate a physical and productive life". This resulted most times in flowy dress, usually tea gowns. Like previously mentionned there's a big overlap between reform and aesthetic dresses since the medieval and antique (and even sometimes regency) influences fited the less structured reform dress silhouette of the late 1800's / early 1900's.

Once again this type of clothing wasn't well considered by the society at large, it took hold in specific artistic spheres such as the one surrounding the Wiener Werksträtte (a viennese artist association of which Emilie Flöge was a part of, the artwork is truly fascinating and very influencial look it up !).

This type of dress was so unconventional that apparently, the painter Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (who might I add painted prostitutes and such on the daily) was scandalised by Maria Sèthe Van de Velde's appearance when she welcomed him in a tea gown (see the blue tea gown below for reference) which he mistook for a dressing gown. I feel like this little anecdote helps to put things into perspective.

A Long Rant About the 2024 Olympics Boxing Gender Row

Disclaimer: DO NOT REPOST. This post contains personal opinions and information gathered over the past week concerning female boxers and Olympic finalists 🇩🇿 Imane Khelif (left) and 🇹🇼 Lin Yu-Ting (right), as well as their opponents. You are welcome to share your thoughts, but if you come to me with hate or an attempt to convince me they are men through claims such as that of XY chromosomes (which have never been proven, mind you), especially if you or your source(s) cite the corrupt, biased and discredited International Boxing Association (IBA), will be blocked and have your comment(s) deleted. If proper fact-checking is too much work for you, I suggest you save your energy and block me instead. On the other hand, if there are relevant updates or information that I may have missed, do let me know in the comments, and I will edit this post accordingly. Angela Carini is not a hero.

We all know Carini abandoned her match not even a minute in and complained about being “punched too hard” by Khelif - who made the women’s lightweight quarterfinals in Tokyo. The cop competed in the welterweight division and lost her opening bout 2-3 to 🇹🇼 Chen Nien-Chin (who will join Khelif on the Olympic podium, fuck yeah).

Carini’s involvement has gradually garnered less attention since her apology, but she will have a long way to go before she can be forgiven, especially by Khelif. An Italian posted and translated her deleted tweet before the infamous 46-second bout clearly alluding to Khelif as a man, and Algérié Football Média recently released a recording of Khelif, where she explains how Carini’s club and the Italian media took advantage of her.

What’s worse, the IBA decided to offer Carini a hundred grand as a “consolation prize.” At least this time the Italian federation values their dignity more and refused the money.

Luca Hámori is not a hero.

Remember the Instagram story reshares that she had to take down? Besides the bull-headed giant, Hámori reshared another which called Khelif a korcsot - a dehumanizing Hungarian slur which Google interprets as “monster” or “freak,” but more accurately translates to “mongrel.”

Hámori entered the ring expecting to walk out as a “savior,” but it was Khelif who turned out to be the bigger person that day. Upon her victory, Khelif called out the IBA for their abuse towards her, but she fights on because of her faith in justice.

Svetlana Staneva is NOT A FUCKING HERO. Neither is her equally ill-informed coach, Borislav Georgiev.

This case makes me especially furious not just because I’m also a Taiwanese woman like Lin Yu-Ting, but also the abysmal immaturity of 34-year-old Staneva, THE SECOND OLDEST BOXER IN THE FEATHERWEIGHT DIVISION. Even Hámori has shown more decency in the ring, and she’s eleven years younger!

If you, like me, have watched their full match, you should acknowledge that Yu-Ting was undoubtedly the better boxer that day - same case in her RO16 bout against Sitora Turdibekova.

On the other hand, you’ll see that Staneva doesn’t need “protecting,” considering she literally held Yu-Ting by the head and SLUNG HER ACROSS THE RING (around 3:25-3:30). I’m sorry, Staneva, did you ever realize the audience was there to watch boxing and not wrestling?! And she calls herself a “proud XX woman.” Our commentators did not witness that gesture, but if they did I trust they would’ve been fuming as much as I have the past few days.

If she truly were a proud woman, she would not play dirty the entire time, then give up five seconds before the final bell. Look me straight in the eyes and tell me that you would want to be represented by such behavior. I feel sorry for the Bulgarians and her other supporters who had to witness such a shameful performance.

Oh, one more thing… Guess who the IBA gave a bronze medal in the 2023 World Championships after disqualifying Yu-Ting?

That’s right, it was Staneva. No wonder her coach was willing to give up all professionalism and pander to the IBA’s lies. And look what that got them - now they’re not allowed anywhere near the Olympic podium! This could be unlikely, but let’s hope they are punished by the IOC and/or any relevant departments back in Bulgaria.

What the actual fuck, Kahraman. We thought you were better than this.

I will only say this once. DO NOT confuse bad sportsmanship, disinformation, transphobia, (inter)sexism, and racism with “defending women’s sports.”

Reducing womanhood to chromosomes, genitalia, physical appearance, and/or some other bullshit is the most despicable and disgusting thing to come out of such hatred, and I will die on this hill. And gender tests? They were abolished due to their ineffectiveness at identifying maleness after Atlanta 1996, but the IBA won’t admit it. And considering their latest mess of a press conference, they would rather stay relevant with empty claims and unnecessary threats. Stop giving them the time of day! Listen to the podcast Tested instead for more info on this matter.

Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting did not make the podium in Tokyo, but they will both leave Paris with their heads high up and medals hanging down their necks - all the while the likes of “fEmInIsTs” and bigots such as J.K. Rowling, Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Logan Paul can only COPE AND SEETHE. Their victory is a victory for women, a victory for Algeria, a victory for Taiwan, and a victory for the boxing world that I never thought I’d care so much about.

I’m counting on Khelif and Yu-Ting to win gold and dunk on all the haters all over again. But respect to every other medalist in the welterweight tournament for being great sports - 🇨🇳 Yang Liu, 🇹🇭 Janjaem Suwannapheng, and our dearest Nien-Chin. You all deserve the podium! 💖💖💖

my answer to the first question depends on how hellish it will be to draw a bunch of different outfits for ysme's character portraits. in theory, she would always want to change up her look a little.

recreating another person's likeness with artisanry doesn't really work that well. maybe you could create prosthetics to approximate someone else's appearance, but it tends to look unconvincing on close inspection.

the history of the mosaic will be explored, but for now i can say that it's only been "open" for about fifty years.

a mixture of both. the white dawn's eye is based loosely on a daisy called the monarch of the veld, but then there are normal flowers that just exist unchanged like the dandelion.

thanks a lot. i can't delve into the last question yet, but you can probably infer why from a few conversations in the prelude.

artisanry is the "default" magic system within the mosaic. it's taught in schools, and generally everybody knows the fundamentals.

thank you. dried flowers are just as effective, but there's a particular ritual that allows this, so just popping them into the flower press like normal would render them useless.

I would say Angeal just needs to take a vacation with Veld/Verdot and Reeve but all three are too busy making sure war crimes aren't committed– though I personally hc that they have tea together sometimes as arguably the three most sane members of Shinra's entire company

Angeal, Reeve and Veld leave the building together for one (1) hour and:

1) The Soldiers have resorted to anarchy, are covered in war paint and are tying Hojo to a helicopter.

2) the Turks set up an illegal poker ring and are practically extorting money from the board of directors.

Contemplating what multichapter fic I want to focus on when I finish Smoke and Mirrors. I have two planned out, both loosely outlined pretty much from start to finish, the trick is sitting down to write them.

OPTION 1: Turn Out the Light (and What Are You Left With?)

Summary: Vincent Valentine went missing in late 1977. In early 1984, so did Professor Gast. When Veld winds up back in Nibelheim searching for leads on the professor's disappearance, he instead finds himself solving a missing persons case seven years cold—and one that hits much closer to home. Vincent may not have survived his assignment in Nibelheim, but he's back all the same, and without decades of isolation to process what was done to him, that may not be the best idea. Features: VinVeld, body horror, major character death, Sephiroth, Professor Hojo, Lucrecia Crescent, deconstruction of Vincrecia, SOLDIER Vincent, SOLDIER Hot Innkeeper Broden, Genesis Rhapsodos, eventual background Sephesis, eventual President Lazard Deusericus, an egregious number of timeskips, and Sephiroth as Vincent's son.

OPTION 2: Trample Your Roses (aka the Neroheim AU)

Summary: Following an incident in Sector 0 and subsequent repeated failure at permanent neutralization, Nero is relocated to Shinra's most distant satellite facility for containment and monitoring. The distance from Midgar's massive mako wells and closer proximity to what his files refer to as "the source" helps him to stabilize, but it's up to Nero to figure out how to socialize—and he'd better figure it out quick, because he really likes talking to that blond boy from town who keeps showing up at his window. Features: Nero/Cloud (which I'm calling sablestrife), childhood friends to lovers, Claudia Strife, Sephiroth, minor character death, Veld of the Turks, Genesis Rhapsodos, Vincent Valentine, Vincent as breeding stock used to sire both Sephiroth and Nero, eventual background Sephesis and eventual background VinVeld.

Both are pretty niche and I'm very aware of that, and this poll will probably not be a genuinely deciding factor, I'm just curious about which would be the most likely to get readership. I am really waffling between them because I know I won't be able to focus on both at the same time.

Galactic War Status: Day 14

Michael Adams here, and we're back with another long update, viewers! Let's get right to it.

Just recently, all active Super Destroyers received an emergency alert warning that the Terminid spores emerging from Meridia have reached a "critical" level, putting all nearby planets in imminent threat. As a result, we're witnessing a mass evacuation of such adjacent systems. Super Earth's criteria for "critical levels" and why they've only now been reached are unclear. What is clear is that the situation must truly be dire, as the Federation is loath to spend resources displacing their industrious citizens, especially entire planets of them.

Following these evacuations, we're already seeing the results of the spike in spore emissions from the supercolony. Waves of bugs are already spreading across the surface of two planets in the Orion sector, Cirrus and Veld. Given the major orders, it is expected that the SEAF will continue liberating Turing, but the reality they ignore is that both planets under siege are directly adjacent to Moradesh in the Celeste sector. If even one planet is lost, the swarm will be no more than a hop, skip, and a stalker's leap away from putting the dark fluid research base at risk. Without that base, Super Earth has no backup plan to destroy the supercolony. The very survival of our species may depend on the days to come!

after @merlyn-bane 's recent post about who might have been agemates with anakin in the temple, @dontbelasagnax & I got talking about any jedi we might know that was around anakins age

we couldnt come up with many lol which got me thinking. there have to be more than this. so I did a bit of research and I thought sharing what i found out might be of use to someone

so this is mostly based on legends and a bit of guesswork. I have made the assumption that if a jedi was a padawan or had only recently become a knight at geonosis, they must have been a padawan at the same time as anakin. obviously this doesnt necessarily mean that they are anakins age, grogu was born the same year as anakin and yet probably wouldnt have had any contact with him as due to species differences in aging, he would have been a baby in the creche.
