I REMEMBER what i was going to say. vanitas (character) is also vanitas (concept) and an allegory for a cycle of systematic suffering and abuse that exists haplessly and without purpose. noé right from the start is in denial over the existence of such useless suffering (thinking he can save mina) and continues to deny this by writing the case study of vanitas, his futile attempt to scrape off some meaning from such a bleak allegory. while he can understand that killing vanitas is a form of salvation for him i don’t think that can come to terms with the fact that vanitas did suffer at all. so to write the case study of vanitas, trying to go over the events of their lives together, and trying to piece together vanitas the person he ends up disrespecting his existence altogether, simply by over scrutinizing it. vanitas did not want to be remembered. by saying he wanted to erase the existence of the votbm, he is saying he wants to erase his suffering from this world. what noé does with the case study is essentially immortalize it, because he is selfish, naive, and wants to understand something inscrutable. rather than taking comfort in the fact that vanitas can continue to exist in his memories, like how he will tell him as he dies (i won’t die noé even if i’m no longer here) noé bastardizes these memories and turns them into something almost masturbatory
#also i think thag like noes obsession with vanitas is in part because he is unable to recognize his own suffering#like there are parallels between their stories#having their caregivers die being orphaned like twice and being taken in by child experiments guy number 1 and number 2#and being sexually assaulted multiple times#the difference is that noé is an archiviste. the only thing he knows how to do is be the narrator and witness vanitas (concept/allegory)#from a third perspective. so it’s not just (or even not really) vanitas pain that he’s coping badly with but his own#i started off trying to focus on the allegorical things instead of the literal character things but whatever i’m not fixing it#i got a fucking hot chip in my eye while typing this and have been crying it out since#didn’t get a desecrate in here because i already used all of those up today and yesterday but YES i squeezed in a masturbatory#<- current favorite words to say#also this definitely ran off in a different direction because my ideas on what noé stands for allegorically speaking aren’t totallydefined#he is a narrator as well as the sole witness to the allegory thus existing somewhere in between narrator#and audience. this also makes him the only real guy in vnc#and i was going to talk about like how vnc is just mochijun thinking about how miserable her fans make her#like noé being in crazy denial over the allegory he fell in love with that he completely disrespects what it’s trying to say for the sake#of his own comfort#much like how readers will often ignore what a text is trying to say for the sake of their own comfort hmmmmmm

IDMFYTFOTW is the single fic of mine that i have read more times for fun than I did while editing because the story just saddens me to NO END
Im contemplating writing a second chapter now because one person who inspired that story (the Vanitas equivalent) is still causing me anguish in my life in an entirely different way... and it's all because I was way too selfless of a person.
So...
...how are we feeling if I make Vanitas unintentionally steal all of Noé's friends and the separation he needs from Vanitas isn't given to him so he just feels really alone. Because every time he wants to just be with friends, Vanitas has to be there. And Noé still doesn't want to associate. But he also doesn't have other friends to turn to.
The idea of him joining Louis in the afterlife sounds a little nicer to him now. He promised Domi he wouldn't, but she lives so far from him now his mind can't help but wander.

I thought Domi putting a leash around Noé's neck in volume 2 was just her being quirky, but no, she knows exactly what Noé is like xD

ー  Brainrot post #2
𖤣 first off MDNI! if you aren't 18+ then don't interact here/with me pls.
Tumblr media
Vanitas who loves how eager you are to drink from him. As you sink your teeth into the skin of his sensitive neck, he can't help but just squirm in your hold. His whines get louder the longer you suck on the sensitive skin, pulling you in closer. He's left there breathless as you pull away, looking so hot and bothered.
Noé is such a strong man, obviously, he loves using that to his advantage. Placing you in any and every position that he can, almost always holds you in place as you try to squirm away out of his grasp on your waist. Even during such a moment, he loves teasing you by dragging his fangs against your neck, perhaps your collar or lower when he has the chance. Just before he gets the okay to do as he pleases.
Now with Gojo omg. That man honestly will eat you out in any position it really doesn't matter as long as you finish more than once. His personal fave might be either on his face or from the back. Might once in a while go for the 69, loves seeing you struggle to take him fully in your mouth, losing yourself in the pleasure that he's giving you.
Aki loves whenever you're riding him and likes to sit back and watch you please yourself on his cock. Whenever you start begging for him to move, whenever you whine about how you're getting tired but desperately want to finish, he's ready to take over. Thinks you're so cute when you're trying but yet still need his help.
Hear me out but Alhaitham and choking. The way he'll mention how you're too loud, just won't shut up and he places his hand around your neck giving it a light squeeze. He thinks you're so pretty just like this, holding yourself open for him becoming such a babbling mess as he speeds up his pace.
More on my thoughts about Kaveh.... I absolutely love the idea of him just taking pictures of you that he will have for safekeeping. Whenever you wear such a cute, pretty set for him he's never in a rush to completely rip the clothing off of you. He always takes his time, whether he's recording or taking pictures, he slips each piece off of you until you're completely bare.

I have to talk about Misha I’ve been holding this for so long. I am not defending him, everything he’s done is fucked up. I just want people to understand him better and idk how coherent this will be but HSVDVXHSBSJJDF
Tumblr media
Bc if you hate him, totally justified. But I don’t want Misha to ever be simplified to the jealous crazy younger brother. Yes he is technically that but one thing about mochijun characters is that most of the time, you can always dig further into their psyche. And I feel like not enough people do that with Misha. I haven’t made an in-depth Misha discussion until now mostly bc I’m a potato. He isn’t 2-dimensional and he fits perfectly in the themes of vnc. Misha cannot be saved, he is a hopeless character, he bears Luna’s Mark while using the Book he is doomed. You can say he was doomed the second he entered the story. His brotherly love for Vanitas is twisted. He is the embodiment of tragic. Everything that led him to this point was not his fault. The only thing he chose was to follow Luna and join their clan bc he would’ve died otherwise. Luna and Vanitas are the only good things he ever had.
Tumblr media
We all know his backstory. So of course losing both would make him snap. And on top of all this he’s being manipulated by Teacher. Who fucking knows the lies or orders Teacher has been feeding him. All this when he’s like 12....13 at most.
Tumblr media
And let’s approach the vanoé situation. We know the depth of vanoé’s relationship and even though Misha might’ve observed from afar, he doesn’t have that context. To be fair he probably wouldn’t care but point is, he sees Noé as some random guy. And again, let’s withdraw ourselves a bit and see things from the outside. How much time has passed since chapter 1? How long has Vanitas and Noé actually known each other? We know that a couple weeks passed since the end of the Gevaudan arc. We know that a week passed after Vanoé got kicked outta Ruthven’s study. If there are any other mini time skips I’m forgetting pls lemme know. But let’s be honest, they’ve known each other for two months. If we wanna push it, three. Of course how long you know a person doesn’t solely decide how close you get to them. You can know someone for two weeks but depending wtf goes on in that time frame, they can become your ride or die. But let’s use Misha’s logic for a minute.
You’ve known Vanitas longer, both of you went through hell under Dr. Moreau. You have the same Mark, you’re gonna suffer the same fate. And from how you see it, he chose a man he met by chance a few months ago, over you. Someone who will never truly get it. He is putting his life in the hands of a stranger over yours. You finally meet again after all this time, and the brother who you believed puts you above everything, points a gun at you. Yeah, Misha fucked up. But that will hurt anybody.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Misha challenges their relationship. He questions how much it even makes sense. It’s not only “how can you chose Noé over me?” But also “How can you kill Father but not him?” Is he more important than us?? And that’s a valid question. Messed up but understandable to ask. Noé has protected Vanitas and has been pretty helpful. But Vanitas doesn’t need him to survive. Noé isn’t essential for this suicide mission he’s on either. Misha cannot understand what Noé brings to Vanitas’ life.
Tumblr media
Misha was so dependent on Vanitas that he couldn’t fathom his brother not feeling the same. Vanitas loves Misha, no matter how strained or corrupted that bond has become. But he is not emotionally capable to stay with him. And he is allowed to feel that way. And Misha is allowed to scream and wail and be broken about it. In conclusion, Misha is an amazing addition to the narrative, I love him a lot. But I also love Vincent from ph so that explains quite a bit doesn’t it?

I've been revisiting old VNC chapters for a variety of reasons, and I came back to these panels in Memoire 7:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is when Domi accuses Vanitas of worshipping the Vampire of the Blue Moon.
Now, we've seen Vanitas use this kind of de-personing language when he needs to create emotional distance, such as when he calls Noé "that vampire."
We know a few things. We know Vanitas killed Luna. We know that in order to protect his memories, Vanitas will go into a trance that de-persons whoever he's fighting (Is this only applicable to vampires? I'm not sure). And we know he cared about Luna and Mikhail at one point (and likely still does despite his deeply repressive reaction).
What we don't know is if his de-personing mindset lasts after he breaks out of the full trance. Is this intense, de-personing reaction... 1. left over from an altered state of mind he needed to enter in order to kill someone he loved? 2. a regular trauma response? Or 3. an indicator of something more sinister about Luna?
These are the three possibilities I can think of.
I don't think Luna is secretly evil in the way Jack was, however, I suspect there's something rather sinister about them all the same.
The devil symbolism is a pretty well-known aspect of Luna's character at this point, but Luna's comment about trying to find out what they are is also intriguing to me. Whatever it is doesn't seem to be their fault, but it does seem to be bad all the same. Maybe it's really just their Malnomen form, but these little hints about them in their normal form make me think that there's more to it.
@lynnlyrae mentioned their theory about Luna being a homunculus here, and that's a possibility I find very intriguing. If Luna's not a homunculus, then they must at least have a narratively similar origin.

Looking back through the first couple volumes of VnC, it's wild how much of what Vanitas does in early chapters is nothing but a series of transparent attempts to put himself in control when he feels uncomfortable. You don't notice the first time you read it, or at least I didn't, but he's really quite obvious once you have the knowledge of what subjects he's sensitive about.
I've touched on this before, but I think Vanitas's biggest defense mechanism is theater, specifically playing up his own power/unpredictability in order to make everyone around him uncomfortable. "Vanitas" is a character that he plays, and he weaponizes that character against others when the man behind the act feels threatened.
(Now that we're under the readmore, here's your warning for a VnC-standard amount of discussion of sexual assault).
Even starting in his very first scene in chapter 1, when we've yet to see Vanitas get anywhere close to vulnerable or upset, we get a hint of how he operates. His first attempt to get Noé away from Amelia isn't to physically fight him—it's to play sinister and deliver a vague threat.
Tumblr media
He could have gone straight for the knives, or he could have told Noé the truth that Amelia herself was dangerous and urged him to get away. But that's not the person Vanitas is. He doesn't talk things out with honesty, and he doesn't resort straight to violence unless he's really over the edge. He threatens and plays up his dangerous persona to get what he wants.
He even uses the very same line with the security guards later in the chapter, playing sinister again to escape arrest because he might be screwed otherwise.
Tumblr media
He's pretty much never authentic pre-catacombs, but moments like this where he dials up the act to achieve something show how in control he is of his own inauthenticity. And he never takes advantage of that control more than when he feels threatened, be that threat physical (like the security guards) or emotional.
When Noé asks him about how he inherited the book of Vanitas in chapter 2, something we now know is a sensitive secret, Vanitas immediately changes the subject. He gets in Noé's space, acting borderline flirtatious (and he often does get flirty as part of his persona), then returns to the topic of Noé being his shield (which is an act in itself, given how he really reacts to being protected).
Tumblr media
It takes one poke to the chest and a couple of sentences to switch the conversation from "Noé insists on knowing Vanitas's sensitive past" to "Noé has to deal with the mysterious, overbearing Vanitas's whims," which is just how Vanitas wants it. Playing up his demanding, in your face side buries the threat of an uncomfortable topic.
Then, when Dominique suggests that he worships the blue moon during the bal masqué, we get a much more extreme incarnation of this same behavior. Domi's words threaten to undermine a huge part of the narrative he's built for himself as Vanitas, and they do so by dredging up a truth that he wants desperately to keep buried. He might not worship the blue moon, but he really did love Luna, and being reminded of that throws a big wrench in the narrative of his revenge against them.
He cannot handle having his narrative undermined at this point, and especially not by a reminder of Luna, who is arguably the most sensitive part of his whole tragic backstory. So he freaks out, and freaking out for Vanitas means throwing himself into his false persona as hard as he possibly can. He grows sinister, speaking darkly before breaking into maniacal laughter that startles Dominique and her attendants. Then he hurls his constructed narrative into public view, revealing himself and ensuring that every vampire knows his claim of "wanting revenge."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nobody's going to forget the human that leapt onto a chandelier in the middle of a ball, revealed himself to be the kin of the blue moon, then swore his vengeance against that very kin, and that means nobody else is going to misunderstand him like Domi and dredge up the truth: that he never really hated Luna.
Going manic and theatrical like this is a defense mechanism, and it's one that ensures not only that Domi stops hassling him, but that, hopefully, he'll never even have to consider worshiping the blue moon ever again. It's a total rejection of an idea that made him uncomfortable, achieved through theater. It also takes a situation that was quite out of his control, his being chained up by Domi, and turns it into a scenario that he engineered, where he is in absolute control of the crowd for at least a few moments.
The best example of all this though, the time when Vanitas combines every form of weaponized persona I've talked about into one awful act, is the scene in which he forces a kiss on Jeanne.
As I mentioned before, Vanitas often plays up his flirtatiousness as part of his persona. He does it with Jeanne quite often, and he does a (usually) subtler version of it with Noé a few times as well. It's a great way to change the subject and make throw people off their game without resorting to threats, and his treatment of Jeanne in chapter 4 is an extreme, but not too surprising incarnation of this same flirty habit.
He might be attracted to Jeanne, but attraction alone is not a reason to force a kiss on an unwilling stranger while ending a fight. Vanitas kissing her was, as much as any other moment I've referenced here, an instinct to protect himself and gain control of a situation that otherwise threatened him.
Winning the fight or not, Vanitas is in a tenuous position in terms of control when dealing with Jeanne. Jeanne is an incredibly strong opponent, and she managed to withstand both a bite from a curse-bearer and a direct stunning hit from the Book. Vanitas has played all of his cards, and his only insurance that she won't murder him immediately is Noé, a man he barely knows, successfully keeping Luca hostage without realizing that's what he's doing. These are not great odds. He's also extremely attracted to Jeanne, and though his initial attraction to her isn't nearly as distressing as his full-on infatuation in mal d'amour, being weak to the sight of her represents yet another loss of control.
Then Jeanne tries to sacrifice herself. She tells Vanitas he can do anything to her he pleases, so long she can protect the child she's devoted herself to watching over, and there is no way on Earth that this moment isn't a trigger for Vanitas, because he once did the exact same thing. He's already in an unsteady situation, and then she reminds him of Misha and his own darkest moments, which means that conversation has to end immediately.
"Please don't hurt him," is the last thing Jeanne says before Vanitas flips suddenly from threats to advances, and his face when he gets close to her is manic.
Tumblr media
So when Vanitas gets uncomfortable, what does he do? He changes the subject wildly, suddenly making the whole situation about him and his fickle, unpredictable moods and unreasonable demands. He cranks up the character of the wild, demanding, show-stealing Vanitas to eleven. He kisses Jeanne. And even though it's a cliche line, the fact remains that sexual assault is never really about the sex. It's about power and control. Vanitas does wild things and plays up his persona as a clutch for control when he's uncomfortable, and this is that to an extreme degree. This kiss gives him the power in their interaction.
Plus, the specific bad memories that Jeanne unintentionally triggers for Vanitas are all about bodily autonomy. His own "do what you want to me, just don't hurt the kid" moment was protecting Misha in Moreau's lab, which led to physical violation after violation. It was a complete loss of his agency and autonomy. And his memory of Misha is also deeply tied to whatever happened with Luna's death, and given the possibility of his being made their kin without consent, that memory may also be one of the loss of autonomy.
This scene is Vanitas not just getting triggered, but being reminded of his loss of control and ownership of his body. It makes a twisted kind of sense that the resultant clutch for power and control comes via him forcing his body onto somebody else. He manufactures a situation that is all about bodily autonomy, but he has all of it and the source of danger has none. And he does it all while stealing the show and rerouting the topic as he always does.
Just like so many other actions he takes early in the series, his most reprehensible moment is just another desperate grasp at control. He has to be threatening and showy and unreasonable. He has to be the kind of man that announces himself as savior to a room full of powerful enemies. The kind of man can force himself on a powerful woman like Jeanne. Because if he doesn't drive home the act well enough, somebody might gain access to the horribly vulnerable person underneath.

What do you think Louis would have looked like had The Incident never happened and he lived up to Domi's age in the present if canon? What would him and Noé's dynamic look like? And also imagine the massive love triangle of him, Noé, and Vanitas.... That'd be fascinating. 2 emo boys vying for his attention.
Tumblr media
If Louis had lived, I imagine he wouldn’t of changed too much. Maybe have longer hair, and a different style? (I drew him pretty in canon tho hah)
If this was the case, my head canon is Noé and Vanitas meet in the same way, only he’s looking for a cure for Louis and Vanitas manages to give him his name back. So I think his relationship with Vanitas would be more or less the same. If anything he’d have more admiration for him for saving his friend. I do think he and Louis would be romantically involved but with Vanitas added to the mix? I can’t decide if Louis would absolutely love him, because they’re so similar or absolutely despise him for the same reasons 😂
I do see them tormenting Noé to no end hence the doodle 😂
(Just realized I don’t know the ship name for Louis x Noé. Lounoé?)

i had a very important realization while i was out walking today. out of the main four vnc characters, noé is the one we know the least about. he fits into a category of what i would call the glass protagonist–a guy who basically exists only to narrate the story, joining the ranks of those like nick carraway and richard papen, except he's just like way more mysterious.
see, part of what makes a narrator like nick work narratively is that we know just enough about him to 1) understand his perspective on the events of the story and 2) know what his role in the story is. nick is able to give his insider/outsider view of gatsby because he is neither part of the buchanans' world nor part of gatsby's, and his role in the story is to serve as a kind of mediator between the two of them. he's daisy's cousin in long island, but he's also a working man in city, etc, etc.
the funky thing about noé is we just...don't know anything about him. we're told a couple of things about his childhood; that he was adopted by an old couple in the human world, that they died and he was somehow on sale in altus, and that the comte took him in. but really, the time before and after louis's death is uncannily empty for the guy who we're following through this world. yes, of course it's fair to say that we know the most important things about noé, but we honestly know way more of vanitas's childhood than his, and that's a big part of the central mystery of the story.
(there's an element to this, of course, that comes from both of the examples i gave before, the great gatsby and the secret history, being novels. as readers, we get an extra level of introspection from nick and richard that is very difficult to translate directly into manga as a medium. however, i would argue that it's not impossible, and all that being said it does sometimes feel intentional on mochijun's part just how little of noé's background she's shown us.)
both nick and richard narrate their respective stories onto the reader from their position as outsiders, which we know is noé's role in vnc from the get-go. i mean, he says this explicitly in chapter one: "this is the tale of how i met vanitas, and how we walked together, of all we gained and lost, and of how, at the end of that journey, i would kill him with my own two hands". he's the narrator and this is his story, just like nick and richard, right?
but while nick and richard are the narrators, and give us, the readers, an excuse to look into their worlds, they are not exactly essential players on the board. both the great gatsby and the secret history give the impression that, without their narrators, they would have continued nearly exactly as written; the characters were doomed to fail long before the story began, and the intervention of some white guy isn't enough to either stop that. and yes, vanitas is doomed as well, but we are introduced to his death as an event that is intrinsically tied to noé himself.
"with my own two hands", noé says. he is not only an actor in the saga leading up to vanitas's demise, he is a starring player in it. (and yes, we ofc later learn that vanitas is going to die with or without noé's intervention but i think it's important to understand that this is our introduction to noé, vanitas, and the story itself) in this way, noé differentiates himself from his glass counterparts, in that he inserts himself irrevocably into the plot. he is both a character in the story and an observer, a chess piece and the one playing the game. this is why the gaps in his backstory feel so jarring, at least to me, because we are not meant to view him as solely a window into the world of vnc, but as a character all on his own.
anyways, all that being said, i'm hoping with the introduction of lady archiviste we're finally going to learn more about noé and his time with the comte, just because it's like a HUGE gap in the story.

About Noé's latest neurodivergent adventures (chapter 61.5 and 62)
(things I found relatable)
1. PUTTING UR HAND UP BC U CANT FIGURE OUT WHEN TO SPEAK. EVERYONE THINKS UR WEIRD FOR IT BUT ITS POLITE AND LIFE IS FUCKING HARD
Tumblr media
2. Struggling to follow conversation, and seeing clearer ways of communication that no one else can and getting frustrated that the neurotypicals are so obviously communicating poorly
Tumblr media
3. Vanitas designated translator
Tumblr media
4. Being quite blind to politics (when it comes to discrimination against himself as a vampire [and his PRIVILEGES as a vampire] and in this case against others like dhams) bc he works individual by individual instead of by social categories
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Last of all it hurts to see the other characters calling him ignorant and an idiot all the time bc Ive been there. He's booksmart, he's intelligent, just not socially, but here is everyone writing him off as dumb just bc he's different.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its not like he's ignorant on purpose. Of course it's important to know this shit he's learning now, and it can be done, but it's a lot harder when ur autistic and, as Vanitas said, when u grow up so isolated. Learning is a neverending process and Noé is very clearly learning and just bc he works differently like putting his hand up to speak or interpreting the world differently doesn't mean he's stupid

Noé x nurse reader
Established relationship
You remember when Noé got his (SEASON 2 SPOILER) hand cut off when fighting Astolfo?.... What if when he meets back up with his partner it's all cute until they notice and panic a bit like "where is your fucking hand?!!"
And he's like "right here :'("
And reader has to sew it up and reattach it.
Tumblr media
You knew it was Noé before you even saw him. Perhaps some kind of instinct, or the fact that no one normally came into your shop with such gusto, you just knew it was him.
“Back from your mission so soon?” You asked. Finishing putting your medicines and equipment away for the day before you turned around the greet him. “I take it it went well. I was worried when you told me you were going after the Beast of Gévaudan. One here’s stories and they think the worst kind of---what happened to your arm!?!”
“Oh. It’s right here.” Noé replied, holding up his arm that was cut just below the wrist like it was some kind of coin purse or bag not to be lost.
“I can see that but what happened to it!?” You asked in alarm. Rushing to his side. “Did the Beast of Gévaudan do this?”
“Oh, Jean didn’t do this.” You were in to much shock to ask who Jean was. “A Chasseur did this to me.”
“S-Sit down…” This was all to much information for you to process. In any event, it wasn’t important. What was important was that Noé’s arm needed to be attached. “You’ve just been walking around, holding your arm, this entire time?”
“Well it happened pretty close to the end of the battle.” Noé told you. Sitting patiently in his chair like a good boy as you got things ready. “Dante offered to try and fix it while we were there, but he was afraid he’d botch it if he tried. So we all thought it best I come here.” You sigh through your nose as you come back over to him. That was probably for the best.
You fall to your knees beside him on the chair and get to work. You offer him morphine, or something to help with the pain, but he refused. Instead, you try to make this as quick and painless as possible. “I know it hurts, but just a little longer.”
“It’s not that.”
You look up from your work, though your fingers don’t stop, at Noé. Thinking his look of discomfort was from the pain. “That guy. That Chasseur. He was really strong.”
“Well they’re made that way.” You agree. “That’s why were told to stay away from them.”
“It wasn’t that though. Yes, he was strong, but it was more than that. He was fueled by rage and hatred. I’d never seen that before. I’ve never seen someone hate me, hate what I am, so much.”
Your eyes flicker up again at Noé, but then quickly back to your work. He had a pretty sheltered life from what you had been told. Living in his professor’s mansion, with Dominique and her brother. Aside from the tragedy of his death and few other unsavory parts in his life, Noé had lived a life relatively unscathed. He had probably never experienced true prejudice and hatred before.
“There is a reason that people like that join the church and the Chasseur. Vampires have a lot of mistrust in the world. And, honestly, I can’t blame them.” You told Noé as you nearly finished with his arm. “Some vampires are cruel, and vicious. But then again, some humans are too. People like that will always see the worst in others and think that as the norm. Get bitten by one dog and suddenly all dogs are bad. I wouldn’t try and take it too personally. It’s unfortunately just a normal consequence of being apart of the world.” You tie off the end of your final stitch and put your needle away.
“There. All done. Let me get you a sling and some medicine for the pain later. I know you don’t like drugs, but this will be an herbal supplement to help you sleep. Rest is important for recovery.”
“Can I stay here tonight?”
You look over at Noé, with his soft pleading eyes, and smile. “You will need to take a bath first to get the blood and travel dust off you, but yes. You can stay.”

VNC Whumptober Day 2:
No. 2: “I’ll call out your name, but you won’t call back.”
cw: so much fucking angst, torture implications
Tumblr media
Noé is…
Right, he’s in a memory. Who’s memory?
Vanitas'
But this is odd. This body doesn’t seem to recognize that name.
Noé has perfected this technique. His teacher trained him diligently. It was beneficial. He learned so much about the capabilities of his power. Even if now he still feels like there’s a part of them he hasn’t quite found yet.
But for now, he knows when he’s diving. It feels like a lucid dream. One where you walk the halls of the dreamscape in a body you can’t control, which is yours for the moment, although it doesn’t belong to you.
It feels deep.
It feels personal.
It feels violating.
It belongs to the person of whom his fangs are currently embedded.
While Noé’s body enjoys the nourishment of blood, the taste of which he could never find a replacement, his mind is none the wiser.
His mind is trapped.
Trapped in a body.
The body of a child.
A young boy no older than 8.
A boy covered in bandages.
A boy who misses his family.
For a moment he sees his own childhood. The times when he was alone after his grandparents died. The time until Teacher bought him.
Teacher.
Mikhail.
Vanitas’ younger brother. Mikhail.
He was part of these experiments too.
Then the thought dawned on Noé.
How long had Vanitas been with Moreau when Mikhail met him?
The image he had seen in Mikhail’s blood placed him around the age of 10-12. But this body. This body was no older than 8.
2 years.
Vanitas had to endure for at least 2 whole years. And more when he took on more sessions to spare Misha.
Vanitas.
The boy here couldn’t be called by that name. For all this body knew, Vanitas wasn’t someone that even existed.
Yet.
Vanitas cradles Noé’s unconscious form. He knows the vampire is out of it. His arms are limp. They would normally seek out the closest thing to latch onto to ground himself in his slumber. But for now his mind is far from at rest.
The sapphire eyed human lays his partner back on the bed next to himself. He runs his fingers over the bite on his neck and winces at the sting.
His fingers are covered in blood. They’re dripping. He feels it dripping down his neck too. And he has a horrifyingly sensual realization.
Vanitas licks his fingers. It tastes of blood, obviously. Warm iron. But something else. There is no aroma, but Vanitas can still taste Noé’s venom.
It is a comforting feeling. A sweet gentle numbness on his tongue. As if he was feeling his adrenaline pump without any of the pain.
But for as gentle as this feeling is, Noé’s bite itself is anything but. He’s managed to rip several strands of muscle in his neck and it fucking hurts. But honestly he doesn’t mind.
He doesn’t need to look to know he’s been marked. And the wound will likely scar underneath it.
Good.
Vanitas rolls up his sleeve and scours at the marks that appeared on his skin years after his birth.
It is about time Vanitas has a scar he chose to have. A mark, dare he say, he wants.
And the human nestles his head under his vampire’s chin. Just this once, Noé would be his hug pillow for the night.
It was only fair.
Noé, experiencing the exact memories of himself as a child, needed to know he wasn’t alone.
“I’m here.” He whispers. “Noé.”
There is no response.
Vanitas hugs him tighter.
“Don’t move. Moving is bad. Moving hurts.” The vampire mumbles.
He can’t hear him.
Vanitas cries.
Please. Hear me…
Noé…
Vanitas!
Noé’s thoughts and those of this child are one and the same.
Don’t move. Moving is bad. Moving hurts.
He feels a tightness around him but he fights it. He prepares himself for another shock. These were still shocks, right? Moreau hadn’t taken out the rolling cart yet. Which means he probably wasn’t bleeding yet. Yet.
Noé’s consciousness separates long enough for him to make a single wish.
He calls out to the body of the boy he was. He hopes he can hear him. He hopes this is the part of his power he had never been able to grasp. Now is his chance. Noé wants this boy to know he isn’t alone. That he wasn’t alone. That Noé was always there with him in his pain. Just that. Just to call out to him.
Noé has this wish.
And just as Noé reaches out to this boy.
He realizes.
I don’t know your name, No. 69.
And the title is too bitter for Noé to think, let alone speak. He just can’t refer to this child as that. Named Vanitas or not, this boy will become someone important to him. This boy is someone important to him. But to the boy, what’s important isn’t his future.
Its what he was forced to leave behind in his past.
Vanitas!
Noé can’t decide what’s worse. Thinking you are alone, or knowing someone could’ve changed that.
No matter how many times Noé could try to call Vanitas’ name, this body wouldn’t recognize it. This body would still feel alone.
And he would continue to feel as such until a chance encounter on an airship above Paris.
But that was a decade away.
Countless days.
Countless days specifically with Moreau.
Im sorry...
...Vanitas.

My first impressions of OnS characters
Vampires
1) Lest karr
🔹️I thought he had half-black half-white hair and I'd have described him as "Cruella de vil lil tyrant boy with hitler software" at first💀
🔹️He's adorable and mad respect for his red hair dye for holding onto dear life and not blending with his white hair and turning some of his hair light pink like Krul's (gon be his worst nightmare💀)
Character seem-alike: Luca Oriflamme (Case study of Vanitas) Song they remind me of:
2) Urd Geales
🔹️Definitely has the intimidating aura, His first panel in the manga was literally him staring into my soul, I had the same expression as the ballerina girl who was dancing for her life infront of him, I could feel her internal fear💀
🔹️I like how he's stern but forgiving and doesn't blame others for their shortcomings
Character seem-alike: Noé Archiviste (Case study of Vanitas) Song they remind me of:
3) Ferid Bathory
🔹️The very first OnS character I saw, He seemed like a sly merciless overlord at first glance which he exactly is however I'd have never thought he'd turn out to be a silly goofball with daddy issues- 💀
🔹️He's a mix of charming and cunning and I won't ever be able to get myself to hate him🗿 He can't get crazier than he already is but I'd still love him nonetheless, I'm Hella simping
Character seem-alike: Sebastian michaelis (Black Butler) Song they remind me of:
4) Krul Tepes
🔹️I loved her character design, things get intense whenever she enters but she's a solid character, She literally just appeared and went 1v1 with Ferid geez💀💀
🔹️Her rivalry with Lest is real entertainment especially when she said "Hold your tongue Lest Karr or I'll have it ripped out and hung up on my wall" Prob the most LIT line I've ever heard and her pet bat Arcane is TOO ADORABLE😭
Character seem-alike: Mina Tepes (Dance in the Vampire Bund)
Song they remind me of:
5) Mikaela Hyakuya
🔹️That one kind hearted friend who'll always sacrifice for those they care for, I was a lil sad when he died, I was genuinely shocked when he appeared in ep 4 alive and as a vampire my face fr went 👁👄👁
🔹️He got the cold royalty visuals ICE PRINCEE! Lacus reminded me of my extroverted ahh trying to get a silent classmate to talk to me💀
Character seem-alike: Victor Nikiforov (Yuri on Ice)
Song they remind me of:
Tumblr media
(You just got Rick-rolled hahaha *cough* sorry)
6) Ky Luc
🔹️DOWN RIGHT ADORABLE, has 0 haters, Always action-oriented, He's both insanely cute and cutely insane💀 He'd definitely be the sweet-kind bakery owner in town if he was a human in the modern world
🔹️It was kinda scary when he went O.O.C (out of character) as the story progressed, I mean he nearly lost it when he was talking with Rigr (who wouldn't?💀) Ky and Lest duo 🔛🔝though
Song they remind me of:
(Legit his theme song, It should be played in the background whenever he's on screen imao😂)
🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️🔹️

Automne 1921 - Champs-les-Sims
2/10
