#im at such a weird point in my life. trying to choose between a phd and a doomed life as an academic and like just not doing that.#its crazy how not terrible i feel when im not in school. just give me tasks to do and i will do them. dont let me think.#but then im just avoiding my responsibilities. i dunno. i just feel like i would be happier with a structured job that ends when the day #is over. which is y my dad thinks i should get a government job. one of my former lab mates got a government job and he's settling into #spending the rest of his life out in Colorado. which is so weird. i dont kno how long ill be in the place im in now. will it b 4 more years?#or will it be only a few months? will i go back to school in the fall? its looking like yes bc i dont have a job lined up. but maybe ill #keep applying and dip out. let my dreams die in favor of balance and sanity. maybe some things arent meant to be.#its just so gutting. i was talking to my coworker this week. saying that im interested in so many things. i could have studied anything else #and traveled a completely different path. and a guy across the room was like: its never too late. but it feels like its too late. too late #to spend another impossible amount of money on getting a different degree. restarting on a second masters project. im almost 30.#im supposed to b saving money so that i can not work forever. but i cant do that if im just a student forever. so maybe i should just get a #job. god. but theres so much i still want to learn. and im in the perfect program for everything i thought i wanted. im in the perfect place #but everything's falling to pieces. whatever. i. just tired bc im on day 5 of work and have to go in for a day 6.#doing something i havent done before all day. but after than im going home for a week. so ill have lots to contemplate in the airport.#this is not how i thought things would turn out. but im glad im spending the summer working where i am. im learning lots on a human to human #level. and no one bleieves im 27 bc i apparently have a bby face lol. nope im 11 yrs older than u my 16yo coworker #unrelated

you ever think about how pretty much the only reason we use base10 is because we have 10 fingers and if everyone had 6 fingers on each hand we'd use base12 and never even think a thing of it and also math would be pretty much better in every way?

#i think for this september's existential crisis i'm gonna become a base12 truther #and bc i know everyone on this website is math illiterate so to clarify:#the way base12 works is that we have a few extra digits between 9 and 10 #so to count we go:#0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 X Y #so X = 10 and Y = 11 #then '10' = 12 #so the next step of counting goes:#10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 1X 1Y #(i know this looks insane to you but the only reason for that is because you are used to base 10 i promise this makes sense #if you throw away everything you know and come at it with fresh eyes)#so anyways in this case '11' = 13. '19' = 21. 1X = 22. 1Y = 23 #and '20' = 24 #bc the tens column is not the tens column it's actually the twelves column #so each [number] in the second column does not mean 'add [this many] 10s to this' it means 'add [this many] 12s to this'#and this would not be tricky at higher numbers bc in base12 twelve is not counted as 'ten and two' it's just its own thing #in fact it would be harder to multiply by tens bc 10 would be the equivalent of like. 8 here.#it's not its own thing (ten) it's actually 'twelve minus two'#to count by tens goes '0 Y 18 26 34 42 50' and '50' is of course 10x6 in this case so it equals 60 in base10 #not hard #there's a pattern to it.#but it's not as easy as counting by 12s #anyways we already have base12 systems and i like them they are very easy to divide #it's only harder than base10 bc arabic numerals are base10 so it's harder to depict base12 logically in a base10 system #hours are base 12. inches to feet are base 12 #anyways this post is legally classified as scifi and/or speculative fiction #or. fuck. it's not even fictional #this is how math would work in a different system #sci-nonfi #speculative nonfiction

#photo diary #1 - picture of flowers with a cool pattern on the petals. 2 - son baby boy son baby with his arm out in a way that almost looks like he's #taking a selfie or something lol. 3 - some tacos made like I think last summer but somehow I just refound the picture of it lol. 4&5 -#flower with a really cool structure! Like how it's made of these little tiers of smaller flowers going up in a cyllinder type shape but fro #afar just looks like one flower. 6 - the stem of a broccoli that I cut very thin and put small slices of green bean inside of?? I like #messing around with produce scraps sometimes. no idea why I took a picture of this like a year ago. I guess maybe it kind of looks like #a spine or something interesting? 7 - a frozen icy bush from last year. The ice was like an inch thick layered on everything #8 - I just like the term useage here 'Storage under shadow place' which sounds far more ominous than 'keep out of direct sunlight' or whate #ver it probably meant to say lol. 9 - sometimes I get these notifications and they always make me weirdly whimsical feeling like..#imagining a life where I'm a retired elerly person in a quaint little home and I just get up and read the newspaper and play solitaire #and garden and then sleep. no large aspirations. no war. no climate change. just some little alternate reality where all is well #and you have your little cards and your little routine and etc. But rather than evoking a negative like 'grr i'll never have that ToT' sort #of feeling it's more just like. #feelin weird. feelin real weird. in a bad way? no i guess not but more like im a haha wtf is happening here?#like i should maybe track my mood just so i can be like wtf is this? more bc i think its interesting #bc like i mean im spending ~11hrs in the lab and the stress has been real high and ive not been sleeping well #but like currently? i feel like i wanna run a mile. like i wanna run around in circles and scream and laugh until i cry #too much energy. too much energy. but y? where is it coming from? its weird #its like the edge of a headache. the cusp of turning. it doesn't quite feel bad yet but like i woke up at 4 #and was insane until 6 when i had to get up and then i was in the lab all day until 6.30 #and immediately i went for a run like empty stomach. i need to run now. and i still feel like that. like i need to run and run and run #but like y am i not exhausted? im not even tired? im vibrating #i watched the new successi0n episode twice and im losing my mind abt it #so its weird and i dont understand. but its not bad. it feels out of control like it feels fucked up but im not being like irradic #like if i was standing beside someone i dont think theyd notice. except maybe my sister bc i think if i talked id be noticeable #energetic. idk maybe im just exhausted and brain is pumping me with stress hormones so i csnt stop but i also csnt feel it #but i suspect its something to do with estrogen and progesterone levels changing which isnt great bc ive got a cycle that borders being #concerningly short but like idk rn its fun. im sure itll break and ill split apart but rn everything feels hilarious #its also weird bc im always like: y do i have so much energy after i dont sleep? is not sleeping thr answer. and today i was like hm #maybe i cant sleep bc i have too much energy. hm. idk its not bad. it doesn't feel bad #it just feels interesting and notable so im noting it. weird stuff. hopefully it pulls me thru tomorrow #bc my back fucking hurts lmao and its monday so ppl r back in the lab as i stand around for 11 hours #unrelated
