Food as a Motif in This Love Doesn't Have Long Beans Part 3

Pt 1 | Pt 2

It's been a few weeks, but I am picking up where we left off and covering episode 3! Once again, I am going over moments where food and drink are used as a meal and analyzing what this tells us about characters and their relationships with each other.

We get another scene of Plawan having a beer at JJ's place, but this time, Plawan is drinking on his own, showing an imbalance rather than it being a celebratory moment.

JJ wants to hurry the conversation, while Plawan wants to sit and linger. We also get the sense, from the lack of head on the beer, that Plawan has been drinking on his own for at least a few minutes. On the other hand, JJ has read over Methas' contract for Plawan, which Plawan signs without even skimming it over. Just like Plawan drinking one of JJ's beers on his own, the contract is another example of JJ providing for Plawan without receiving anything in return.

We also get another scene of Oab at Nubnueng's cafe, but this time, Oab actually takes a bite of the food! And he compliments it, which Nubnueng confirms is a rarity for Oab. Just like in episode 1, Nubnueng isn't eating anything himself, but as opposed to that scene, where Nubnueng was providing comfort and support, here we see an exchange of advice.

Oab gives his opinion on the dessert, and Nubnueng, who knows that the dessert was just an excuse, gives his advice on Oab's love life. Oab doesn't reject the advice, but he's not able to fully accept it because he won't admit that he has feelings for anyone. He's not fully connecting with what Nubnueng is telling him.

That's it for this episode, just a couple of scenes, as I am moving very quickly onto episode 4, where we WILL be talking about the granita.

hello friends heres some more artist au ,,, i have A huge infodump under the cut ... u were warned

uhm mumbo is a tattoo artist in this au, hes the towns electrician primarily but he does tattoo work too. hes terrified of needles on his own skin but really enjoys the process of tattooing. i think he mostly does geometric stuff. probably hrm.

gem runs and owns the fishing dock/bait shop. shes born and raised in this town so shes been here her whole life. shes okay at painting but her real passion is with clay- specifically sculpting. shes taking a pottery workshop w grian but she like the freedom sculpting has that the wheel cant really give her...? if that makes sense.. she still likes it. when she paints she gravitates towards gouache and watercolors, she likes the fluidity she can achieve w em. also is very fond of how gouache lets u set it down then return and reactivate it w water again lol

pearl is a relatively successful artist, shes constantly traveling for art shows and also to host workshops/look for inspiration. she used to paint a lot, thats how she kinda got her fame... she used to paint this one girl a lot idk she has curly orange hair and freckles and shes always painted really beautifully. then stuff happened and now pearl mostly sculpts now. she still paints and her paintings are her most popular works but shes more into working w clay.

hm more abt this au, pearl and grian are siblings and both grew up learning oil painting. jimmy is also in this au im still figuring out a role but hes their cousin— basically brother— i was thinking pearls manager js coz i think itd b funny lol.

the setting is a small coastal town hrmm havent thought too much else abt it, was mostly pulling from coastal norcal ish...

in this au scar and grian are really really tight and have been living w each other for like 5/6 ish years. i dont think they officially get tgt... they think theyre woke asf n say they dont like labels (kinda kidding) the real reason is just timing. whenever grian is sick of running circles and works up the courage, scar usually has some complications hes working through and grian feels like hed just be another stressor added to his plate so he just wills it away... then when scar is like Im gonna do it. Im gonna tell him. Grian is experiencing sum kinda dilemma and is rly stressed so then scar is like well it can wait... (this goes on forEver.) whenever they do sync up, usually theyre far too scared about ruining their friendship and having to find a new roommate or something. they both r very important to each other and if bottling up their feelings means they can hold onto each other and keep each other around then thats what theyll do...! yeah theyre doomed🤦‍♂️.... they still basically do romantic activities tgt- they just think its normal coz its them.... also everyone around them thinks theyre secretly dating or smth anyways Yeah this is the au in a nutshell im such a sucker for long term pinning friends to lovers or whatever😭😭😭😭😭...

Do you have any tips for salmon run?

i have a few that i can offer thats helped me out, even while playing on freelance !!

> "boss luring" is prolly one of the most important tip! any bosses that follow players (e.g., steelhead, scrapper, etc) can be lured closer to the egg basket for easier egg depositing— that's why sometimes when a wave starts - for example - a scrapper appears, players would stay near the basket

> flyfish fumble! if everyone's too preoccupied to completely knockout a flyfish, take out only ONE of it's containers (preferably the right container, as it targets the closest player) — this "fumbles" the flyfish so that its missiles are random

> prioritize destroying lesser salmonids!!!! (IMPORTANT‼️) - if forgotten, the lessers can - depending on your job title - swarm around you FAST and stand in your way; especially the smallfry (i have the most issues w/ those coz i underestimate 'em LOL!!)

> related to 🔝 but imo the order of priority feels like this: splat lessers > splat bosses > gather eggs

> (mudmouth mode) mudmouths can be quickly destroyed using: explosher, grizzco slosher, crab tank bombs, killer wail 5.1, booyah bomb, triple inkstrike or inkjet!

> snatchers can be your friends! 😎 if there's lots of eggs far away on the shore, the snatchers may sometimes grab those eggs fly right over near the basket w/ them, which is a perfect time to splat them there!

> if ur playing freelance, a casual player, or w/ someone who isnt familiar w/ any sr tips like luring or weapon advantages (e.g., rushing to splat lurable bosses at the shore, not using their explosher on mudmouths, etc)... match their playstyle! — going "this way!" at them or waiting around in hopes they'd eventually get it would only lose time, so it's best to just play along haha

(cw - lots of death, lots of pain, if you watched this server you know what to expect but be warned anyway)

- fit's reaction to ramón's loss of his first life is so interesting - no reaction from him or phil that an egg had just gone down in the in-game chat. crazy concept compared to the rest of the future of the smp

- juana and tilin's deaths are so sad and accidental that it's kinda funny. Charlie and Mari just clearly have no idea the risky shit they're pulling (COZ HOW COULD THEY???). man, thank god for etoiles figuring out the sword bug

- foolish just stepping out and coming back to a whale'd leo - the poor doozers who tried to get his attention through donos

- poor fucking roier man. that man just went through it. the reaction of the rest of the server when Bobby went down... bruh the suppressed memories of egg trauma are resurfacing...

- i forgot the bulls were such a fucking problem at one point, hit one and they all come to beat your ass.

- i was there for only some of the egg deaths in the actual streams but i remember tallulah's one from the code monster and phil so fucking clearly. the code was soooooo fucking intent on killing her that day, it took so long and it was so frustrating when it finally succeeded. The Nightmare, the event that made the server remove a enemy mob mod for a while coz it was just too op compared to the players, just real fun memories of phil taking a boat back to the beach where it happened and debating on whether he's gonna straight up leave the server if chay is gone.

Well first, I'm sorry that it took you so long to overcome your internalized antiblackness, but I'm happy and proud that you were able to look within and start that process for yourself. Many people can't admit they hate themselves. Because you're right, you would have been a lot happier in your own skin if you weren't pressuring both yourself and receiving pressure from the world to hate your Blackness.

And it isn't safe to fight antiblackness. Black fans know what comes with the experience and may try to protect themselves by never mentioning it, having to swallow the indignity or not ever participate at all. People deem discussing race as a threat, it's "not fun" and it's "causing infighting". It can isolate you; ruin an entire potential presence bc you broke the status quo.

It's why most nonblack fans choose to be bystanders, and therefore... Are choosing antiblack racism. That fear of stepping in is at least something nonblack people have the option of having; I have to face it! That's the life I have to live, is knowing that this sort of hatred exists for me, and the only way I can "not deal with it" is by lowering my head and accepting that I'm less than. That's the only "easy" way out.

But I choose my humanity along with the difficulty. And I'm glad you're starting to recognize that- you are worth fighting for, your humanity is worth fighting for! No need to be nice and quiet for people to enjoy your suffering- fuck em lmao. If EYE don't get peace, YEW don't get peace!

As for community, yeah you're probably not gonna find it in fandom, least not unconditional. That's been a hard lesson for me to swallow, too. It hurt, bc you walk in expecting to have community with people who like the same stuff you do!! But, unfortunately they're bringing their real world biases with them. Anyway, some of us are doing what we can to make it so, but... Tis a long battle. You keep working on yourself though!

Are you from an english speaking country? I've seen you posts about kaamelott and that's so fun to see other people than french ones knowing the show

Yeah! I was introduced to kaamelott a few months ago. Im doing a rewatch coz i skipped livre 2 and livre 3 when i first watched the whole thing (livre 1 up to kaamelott premier volet). The english subtitles for livre 2-3 on YT aren't in synch, you know? Therefore i also missed much of how the plot developed. i'm trying to fix that. XD

It's a great series. I like

the characters -solid characterization. They are all flawed and geniuses in their own right, they all have fascinating but subtle character arcs that spread out neatly;

The costume design - multiple costumes and very colorful and smart;

the rapid but witty dialogue - believe me i dont understand any french but the delivery, facial expression and acting translates very well;

Camerawork - i like the early skit format (livre 1-3) and also the way production levelled up (esp in livre 4-6);

Adherence to the legends - im currently finding out how indeed this show is very thomas malory coded;

The comedy - it reminds me of the stuff i grew up with, the crass and unapologetic nature of it. The Comedic timing is perfect too;

The Plot - because there are a lot of scenes that made me laugh my ass off, the serious ones give me a gut punch and i can never get em out of my mind. The gag and shtpost nature of it enhances the story.

A lot of ppl have pointed me to resources on how to get english translations and im still trying to move past the free content provide by the official youtube channel. (The fandom has been very kind to me)

I wish i could understand french coz im fascinated with astier's work process and how he's on every aspect on this thing. i know he explains some stuff in a lot of YT clips. Too bad i can never deep dive into them since I dont understand french lol.

Anyhow, yeah! Kaamelott is great! Alexandre Astier and his family and coworkers did a superb job on it. Can't wait for more!

- Ok realistically he’d have an A1 licence due to being 18 in Europe which restricts the bikes you can ride which is LAMEEEE!!

- In Czech you have to be 24 to get an A licence, meaning you can ride whatever. But idk that feels like too much of an age jump when everyone else is the same age

- Most other places make it so you have to be 21, so I’ll just use that instead. Levi can be 21 in this au

- I mean honestly I could just get rid of the motorcycle licence tier thing all together

- It’s a modern au but cmonnnn Funger universe does not give a fuck about its youth… but eh it’s whatever

- Prefers bikes around 600-800 cc. Fast !! But not exactly death wish fast…….. I mean kinda but still

- He just likes being able to accelerate fast, he doesn’t speed too much

- The top speed he’ll go is 150-170 km/h but Pav coaxes him in races to go faster

- The type of biker that prefers to go on long drives for hourssssss

- He just likes to go on rides to clear his head :3

- Id say he’d have a Yamaha XJ900 Diversion. But I did think of a Yamaha XJ6 Diversion F too

- either way, a Yamaha fan

- I’m going with the XJ900 tho… but hey, maybe it was his first bike, got an older model for cheap and then after a while of dating Pav he got a XJ6 after persistent bugging to get a faster bike

- XJ6 is still comfy for long rides but lighter and faster… more sporty than touring (They are both sport touring bikes)

- I mean XJ6 is only like 10 km/h faster so still staying with the XJ900

- Coz the XJ900 is FAST, 900cc, a very all around good bike. XJ6 is 600cc but faster due to being lighter and more built for speed.

- And realistically he’d only have the XJ900 bc bro cannot afford 2 bikes!

- He is not made out of money and he is not selling his XJ900 !!!! it’s sentimental !!!!

- got sent to military school as a kid by his bitch ass father, so he’s a little fucked up still

- Lived in a community housing place for a while after military school as he found out his mother died and refused to move back in with his dad

- While he does go through a lot of bikes, because he crashes all the time and somehow never gets severely hurt, his go-tos are Honda or Kawasaki bikes

- His favourite and longest owned bike is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R… because she was the fastest Pav owned and he has a death wish

- He named her виктория (viktoria)

- She got into a crash so she’s been sitting in Abella’s shop while Pav saves up to fix her

- Takes his side mirrors off to lane split better

- Was a squid before Levi came around (squids are people who don’t wear protective gear) but still only wears heavy protective wear on night rides when he goes super fast

- During these night rides he so takes his license plate off lmaoooo

- Averages 200-300 km/h on the rides 💀

- Does a lotta bike tricks for fun too

- Served in the military for almost a decade and a half before having to retire for an unknown reason but still getting paid (ooooo mysterious)

- Does odd jobs here and there for extra cash

- But um don’t ask where he gets all the money for his bikes !!!!! He’s super cheap in every other aspect of his life

- He’s milking randoms for their money for alcohol, food, fuel, etc lollll

- Pav has gotten kicked out of apartments a few times in which he would sleep on Daan’s couch at his bar

- the type to stare down cops and purposely speed in front of them so they chase him, always leaves them in the dust bc he drives like a maniac

- Got caught once because he didn’t realise a cop was following him and he stopped for gas

- Got out of the speeding charge by giving the cop a blowjob bc I think that’s hilarious 

- Anything to get outta spending money ig 🔥🔥🔥

- All his bikes struggle to not go over the speed limit so he has to backpack Levi when cruising around town

- Pav complains abt Levi being slow and Levi tells him to shut up lol

- owns a bar that motorcycle gangs frequent a ton

- It’s not even branded as a biker bar, nor is he a biker, it just naturally became one bc Daan doesn’t give a fuck about appearances and treats everyone the same

- Pav flirts with him constantly purely to try and get free drinks. Daan knows this and ignores him

- Marcoh works as the bouncer there (also a biker)

Abella

- local mechanic !!!! Pav’s go to when he can’t fix his bikes himself

- Pav will drop a completely totalled bike in her workshop and tell her to fix it and Abella will tell him to get the fuck out of her shop

- She also rides a motorcycle, I’m thinking a dirt bike of some kind?

- Definitely owns atleast a few different motorbikes though

- She’s an off road girlie at heart

Karin

- Pav smashed her side window clean off in a drive by after she didn’t let him pass her the road so she’s been trying to track him down for a while now

- just wanted to say her road rage is fucking terrible, you are scared for yours and other people’s lives if she’s behind the wheel

- still a journalist, still has anger issues

O’saa

- Owns an occult shop and rips people off with stupid card readings

- magic and stuff still exists btw, albeit heavily faded, he just overprices everything

- Marina works at the shop

- O’saa hardly even runs the shop tbh, it’s mainly Marina doing it

Other thoughts;

Pav has a really good poker face. And Levi is autistic so he just believes everything he says, not a single shred of doubt… and Pav is like… in awe……. He knows he’s good at lying but he’s just… Confused at how fast Levi believes him.

Pav feels guilty for the first time in his life so he actually does pay Levi back

Pav going on and on abt how much he hates cops (he got a speeding fine) and Daan is getting sick of it so he pulls out a photo of Pav in the military. Pav turns his head and refuses to look at it. He is like totally silent and Daan keeps on trying to get him to look at it and he just turns away more and more… Don’t ask how Daan has that photo

Here's my set up!

In England most ppl do use roll ups. U tend to find that ppl who only smoke straights (pre rolled) are older ppl, ppl who have more money and ppl who don't smoke often enuff to bother. A packet of straights can last a really long time and will keep better than a packet of baccy (loose tobacco) as there's less to dry out.

I use a rolling tin because i cant roll freehand for shit no matter what (and im a handy person, its just too fiddly for me), it's easier to do while walking and i have physical difficulties. It's rare that i see anyone else use a tin, i only started because my bff did! It's not uncommon for ppl to use a rolling machine tho, which is like a tin that's been reduced to just the liner and..rolling pins?

Tins are no more expensive than a good rolling machine and tend to last longer. I prefer to change the liner when it dies rather than but a new one tho. They can be annoying to clean if u care about that but they're useful in that they can hold ur supplies! And put stickers on :3

A packet of tobacco is usually about 30g for £12-17 (tho average is about £14) now from a regular supermarket. It did used to be less before the recent inflation :( a 20 pack of pre rolls is about the same price. To give u an idea of how much more cost effective roll ups are than straights; a 20 pack currently would last me 2-4 days (IV had to cut down coz i have no money lol but this is numbers only, not counting factors like poverty) and 30gs of baccy would last me 2-3 weeks.

It's still common to see empty cigarette packets littering places and u will occasionally see a tobacco packet. They're all decorated now with warnings and warning images due to the law, all packets. They have different warnings and related pictures they get used but I'm not sure how often new ones are added? This one is my favourite atm for sure:

It's also useful to at least have the ability and resources to make a roll up if ur ever desperate/smoke drugs. Old fags on the floor can be picked up and u can squeeze any unsmoked baccy out into a bag to use for a Frankenstein roll up. I tend to find certain brands of straight cigarettes only get half smoked ?? Very good pickings if ur bottom of the food chain.

Its also easier to roll a spliff if u can...roll lol (spliff as i know it to be is a regular fag sized roll up with a blend of baccy and weed) and any other combo of smoking materials (other drugs, herbs etc).

On community culture (i promise this is the last bit), rolling sumone a fag is way more intimate and thotful than just handing em a straight (tho depending on ur Poverty Status™ it may be difficult to accept a straight due to their higher value). There's also the act of passing on the rest of ur fag to another person, usually towards the end of its life. Here that's called, 'twos'. So itd be, 'can i have 2s?' or, 'u can have 2s if u want?' which is a fun word for it i think!

Holy fuck thank you so much for detailing all this to me, I was honestly really happy reading all of this because it interested me so much. It's funny to me still how the demographic for rolling cigs here is usually the polar opposite lol, it seems its always people who are a lot older who enjoy rolling them up more than just buying a pack of straight cigs.

Also I absolutely love the pack you showed off of course, I'm always a sucker for the ones with "gore" on them, but also I've just never seen a tobacco pack before so that's really sick, thank you!

GILDEROY: SURPRISE! It’s me, Gilderoy, Live in the Demon’s Lair to give all o’ you a message, from the salty heart of Finnsmouth,

(DEMON surfaces out of the water.)

GILDEROY: Alongside me, the venerable Ancient Demon That Haunt The Waves.

DEMON: You all know who I am, or ya will, soon enough,(laughs). So, what’s got you so worked up, Gilly?

Hey there! I just accidentally stumbled upon your blog 2 days before and I've never been so satisfied with reading an enha fic before yours. I've never commented or spoken (always been a silent reader for a good 6 years) to any of the writers/authors that I've read good fics of before but i felt the need to let you know how amazingly mind-blowing your work is!

Trust me when i say that i've read A LOT of fics and really can pick up on if someone knows how to get the audience interested and you've really nailed the art. I'm immensely hooked onto your dkp series and I personally am a total sucker for dark themes which is honestly a difficult genre to write, but girl you are absolutely killing it with this one (no cap)

I've seen so many dark theme authors/writers leave their hobby/passion for writing coz this reaches the wrong audience and people talk trash abt it elsewhere or misuse it, and it really hurts me to see such good talent wash away just because some don't know to appreciate good work and take things personally. I just hope you continue pursing your commendable skills and don't be too hard on yourself and don't exert yourself too much!! first of all, it is truly an honour to know that you've interacted with me because my recent work of dkp series hooked you. tbh to me personally, i don't think dkp series is that dark unlike other great dark fics i've came across, which disappoints me because i had the intention to execute dark dark theme in the series but i guess i have to sharpen my skills in dark genre </3

So his original plan was just to, eating nd going around with doyoung, chatting....etc......but the company made it more like a veriety show interview where they could bring guest nd ask abt their upcoming activities!!! Haha..... That's funny.... What haechan wanted was a relaxation, just enjoying the eating with doyoung's company, he picked doyoung coz of their reaction over foods so ppl won't get really bored just see them eating... Nd yes if it is harchan nd doyoung ofcrs they fight nd it is kinda fun to watch... But now it become more serious job, like its ok if the guests are from nct, or the person they already known.... But the guests coming from outside of the bubble makes it more visible.. The epi with minhyung, like they did well but the awkwardness was visible, minhyung was not shy seeing strangers for the first time was a plus point in that episode... I'm not criticizing, it is a great opportunity for them to make new frnds nd also a new path... Since 127 is going on a hiatus.... Nd ofcrs doyoung nd haechan were enjoying it and also doing a good job this far... But I'm just wondering how would it be it for just 2 of em to go on a show... Like of ot was only dy nd hc would it be as successful as it is now?! Just wondering!! What is ur thought on this!!

Haechan and Doyoung eat out together a lot as it is. More like, Haechan wants a programme for himself. In the past he pitched the idea about Haechan's radio, that one lasted for some time.

Mokchu is low budget. There are only 2-3 staff members at the location, maybe, plus editors at SM. To attract non k-pop fans or non-NCT fans a restaurant-review show should have a better camerawork (i.e. cameramen at the shooting location), lighting, sound. Just look at Heechul's drinking show Do attended. There were like 10-12 staff members on the side, sitting in two rows. There is a big competition as there are many mukbaeng shows.

Therefore, I get why SM turned it into a more common format (hosts+guests). 2Dongs can shoot episodes with only two of them anytime later, as specials. I'm more concerned about another member replacing Haechan and later Doyoung. That will be a bigger deviation from the original plan, even more like work instead of doing something the two enjoy.

Fans tend to watch mostly content with their faves. And not all of them do. Even such a popular member like Taeyong gets 200-300k views for his TY vlogs. (Although I do believe that YT doesn't count many views, maybe from those who use adblocks). Therefore, I think 2Dongs show would have been watched only by their fans.

This show is a good practice though. The episode with Minhyung showed that both 2Dongs are not very good with dealing with new to them people in a situation without a prepared script, where they can rely on a professional role and don't need to decide how they should act (be more polite/be more friendly). Haechan can't even be his cheeky self (which he plays easily on variety shows). And Doyoung can't be MC easily (because their show doesn't have a structure, rules to follow, yet).

What’s the hardest aspect of rewriting the series like between characters, or the world itself, or something like that

Honestly i wld say the hardest part is all the plot holes from the og show (coz i dont include the comics and WOW)

Some obvious ones are easier but some others are confusinggg. This is hard for me because other talented rewriters change a lot of the story or change the lore a lot for stuff to fit while ALSO changing major story beats. (Especially after season 4/5 which are all great and fun to read)

I wanted my own rewrite to keep as much of the feel and adventure of the og show. So for me the plot holes such as riven’s personality or bloom and sky’s multiple proposals are a little hard to patch because it affects the story a lot after The Pivotal Moment.

For example musa and riven have a lot of fights in the show because of the weird reset of riven’s personality but if we followed season 4, he wld have gotten better (slowly) and many of the plot points for riven and musa in future seasons wldnt happen, mainly the breakup.

Bloom and sky also have a whole of 2 proposals in 2 movies and yet they never get married and never act like a married couple. If i patched this up and allowed them to get married in season 4 for example, their future fights would seem so unbearably childish so i would have to think of more plot points for them with more “mature” fights.

Honestly i like that the winx are very much like slice of life (magic edition) but also always called upon to fight so i really want to keep a lot of it. Another one of my goals is to NOT ignore side characters like Roxy or Selina like cmon you added them already so might as well put em to use. Also i dont want any of the girls to breakup (yes i know breakups are a realistic part of life) but i always loved that every gorl had a different dynamic with their boyfriends (and their parents) and i liked the exploration for that kinda thing.

Another thing is the trix. They return like every other season and do i think its tacky? Yes but i love them too much to keep them away at this point. So another hard part is giving them the motivation to keep fighting the winx. Especially when they always lose. Icy has her motivation more or less with her whole season 8 backstory but Darcy and Stormy are blank slates. And knowing what we know about their characters, stormy can keep fighting through utter spite and hatred but darcy? I just dont feel like she would keep fighting a losing battle (esp after the ancestral witches are destroyed in the second movie)

So yeah those r a few things i think are hard about rewriting winx club (its mainly plot related coz otherwise i think its just akin to fun brainteasers)
