Had a go at Solo DnD game, which I completed over two days. I've been looking for alternative games to DnD for a few weeks, and through that I found out about Solo games. And after two weeks of cancelled games, I thought I'd give solo play a shot, for occasions where I just really wanna play.
First I decided it'd be fun to randomly roll the characters I'd be playing too, so here they are:
Marble Axewell- Hill Dwarf Paladin, Folk Hero.
Marble comes from a small farming village where she served as a guard for the mayor. Unfortunately said mayor was kind of a dick who mistreated his employees and made pretty much everyone miserable. One day, she decided she’d secretly gather up some other people who were fed up and taught them how to fight, then they basically stormed the mayor’s house in a mob and ran him out of town, hence the folk hero background.
She’s heard the dude is hiding behind his buddies and red tape out in the capital and wants to track him down and ensure that he doesn’t abuse anyone else.
Astra Moonglow-Aasimar Divine Soul Sorcerer, Noble.
Astra is the youngest child of an ancient noble family, mostly composed of Elves, though there seems to be celestial material flowing through the bloodline. He wishes to attend a high-end magic school in order to learn howe to use and grow his magical powers.
Razer Drakeskull-Black Dragonborn Bard, Entertainer.
Razer is a travelling performer, who’s planning on meeting up with her old band again and going on an “out of hiatus” tour. Her guitar is a prized possession that was created by one of her bandmates (and best friend). During the past she’s probably pissed someone off who would prove to be significant later on in the group’s adventures.
I used The Solo Adventurer's Toolkit to run a sort of "test" session with these guys, using the method in it where you basically generate the quest first and used a word table to flesh out the details. For this game, there was a cult that was hunting after Astra, since they needed his celestial blood for a demonic ritual. That kinda stuff.
Yeah, solo DnD is definitely a very different experience from regular multiplayer DnD. Mostly a lot quieter, and I can take my time on it, taking breaks and picking it back up as I want. The plot was pretty simple but gave me something cool to work with and the random tables add interesting twists and challenges.
If I decide to do a longer solo campaign, I might use these guys again? (Or I might use the Ryan and the Quest Crew world and characters idk.)

So, I've been inactive lately
Well, yeah. Been busy with trying to get my DnD game back on its feet, and this weekend I kinda had a realisation moment that I'd been struggling a bit with mental health...Because of that I'm considering waiting until maybe next year before I get back into committing to any big projects. Not really sure at the moment.
Umm, yeah, had a lot of art block which hasn't helped, but if I'm not trying to commit to something for a bit it might help? idk.

Wanted to give Wanda and Fern some more friends (Including a civilian design for Blade and slightly touched up Goobert).
Some of them may or may not have the potential to gain their own hero forms in the future.

To go with Wanda I needed to give her the most stereotypical PreCure-aah villain like, ever. Duke Darkmourne lives in his Evil Palace in the Nightmare Zone where he's planning too...Idk give everyone on the surface depression or something idk. Since these guys might be for a one-off/ for funsies, I haven't got everything figured out yet.
Thinking he's Wanda's "old" Big Bad Evil Guy she defeated a few years back as a teenager...But now he's back for revenge! Oooooo!
Tumblr media
Yeah, these Magical Girl villains are fun because they'll often have some kind of wacky minions/generals that the girls have to deal with almoist every episode (summoning the Monsters of the Week or whatever.)
So Darkmourne's got one too, courtesy of the Void Distribution System. Sceadu is less "solid" in their design compared to everyone else (haven't even decided if they're gonna talk or not), but I'll probably figure it out as I go along since I might make this my next video project.

Yeah, so last Wednesday one of the players in my DnD campaign offered to run a Girl by Moonlight one-shot (which it looks fairly likely that it's not gonna stay as a one-shot), which was a game I'd never heard of before but I thought I'd give it a shot, it's alright really.
Yeah, I am up for trying different systems, and this one being a Magical Girl game gave me something different enought to drag me out of my artblock. Decided to have another go at Wanda, who you might remember I posted ages ago alongside this Kamen Rider kind of character.
Gave her a sidekick/buddy too, moderately based on the character who I played in the one-shot. Thought I'd be fun if my funny magic girlies had a theme to them, like in PreCure or something. Here they're creatives in their civilian identities, Wanda being a fashion designer and Fern being a artist.
Might do something with these goobers? Probably a one-off short story or something idk.

This was the Girl By Moonlight (Maze of Dreams specifically) character. Wanted Fern to be similar, but not exactly the same.

So, to get back into drawing regularly again I had a look at drawing challenges, but couldn't really find any on google I'm really feeling.
So I whipped up this Yume Nikki themed one (since every know and then the game pops up on my Youtube feed so I've been thinking about it.) that I'll maybe give a shot for October? Not really sure right now.
Feel free to use it yourself, if you want. I might try putting together like, a DnD monsters one (or a worldbuilding/create a monster type one) or some others if you wanna shoot a request.
Umm, I do have that Godzilla poll from ages ago, so that's another option for me. Those take a long time to make so it really depends on if I just wanna do something relatively quick or something I do gotta spend more time on.

Translation/typeset of pages 242-243 Bankara Walker, with information about King Salmonids. note: these pages were taken from the publicly available preview and have been artificially upscaled for the sake of text readability. Transcription:
Page 242, Horrorboros: It circles above the stage, spitting balls of ink out from its mouth at regular intervals. These balls of ink create a huge explosion when they hit the ground, so it is essential to destroy them with golden eggs while they're still small.
Page 243, top: In the past, sightings King Salmonids known as "Cohozuna" had been confirmed, but in recent years, "Horrorboros" have been reported circling in the sky, and "Megalodontia" have been reported hiding out and chasing after targets. In addition, there have been cases where these three Salmonids have appeared in a group called the "Triumvirate".
Page 243, Megalodontia: Megalodontia is bigger than Cohozuna and Horrorboros, and can swallow anything. When it identifies a target, it hides beneath the surface and, with a warning sound, rushes to the surface to attack its target. The large red bump on its back is its weak point.

Okay, so a quick update regarding my YouTube video projects.
Hello, it’s me again, so, I’m back to quickly talk about my videos from this year, and what I might have planned for next year.
Yeah, so you might have noticed that my videos tend to end up pretty long, and so take quite a long time to make. I am considering changing the way I make videos to some degree to hopefully get stuff out a bit faster. The big time sink is mainly the “extra” illustrations, so I think I might try making visuals that revolve more around speed paints, than these extra images (putting a few in here and there, but maybe having a cap for the number). Plus with les time on those I could be able to spend more time on the writing.
As for the projects themselves, we have a few options. Naturally, there can be more entries in the My Take On series, where the next one would probably be part 2 of the Ultraman video with aliens.
Next up is Splatoon: Operation Rock Out!...This one for now I think I’m gonna make just as a one-off story, rather than a full series, but it could get more entries in the future. Honestly, if there’s any fandom project I do end up committing multiple entries to, there’s a high chance it would be this one.
This also leads to potential for similar one-off original short stories. I do wanna pull myself out of the “fan art sinkhole” I’ve been stuck in for a few years now and start making original stuff more often.
Now for the big one-Ryan and the Quest Crew/Project Pheonix.
This was originally gonna be a narrative story series, but I’m thinking I might do something different. The main piece of tangible material I have for this project is actually a Dungeons and Dragons homebrew setting and campaign (which for the last few weeks I’ve actually been running) that I started working on back in November last year.
So
This might actually end up becoming more like a worldbuilding project (with some story bits here and there maybe), where I share my homebrew setting, as well as things like the custom quests and monsters that I make for the game (while drawing proper art for them and giving them lore and all that.). This could even become inspiration for your own games or something.
Finally, I wanna say that I don’t think I’m going to continue Fazbear Collection
And honestly, a big reason for that is that I feel like it’d be better more me if I just enjoy FNAF a bit more casually, and am able to dip in and out, rather than have the obligation to stick with a long-term project. Okay, another reason I tried that idea is because if you’re reading this, you probably found my channel through Alone at Freddy’s, so since my most successful video was a FNAF one, I felt like I ‘had’ to make more FNAF videos. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of how the final Episode One actually came out, dunno, think it dragged on for too long and the tone ended up too dark and serious. Don’t get me wrong, I still like FNAF, just not enough to spend potentially years on a fan project.
So, yeah. That’s my update for the year. I’ve learned a fair bit, and for next year I’m gonna try working on efficiency (though note due to things like me running DnD games, video production might still end up being a bit slow).

Okay, so the Ultraman video is out now on YouTube, managed to finish it yesterday.
Yeah, ended up being a lot bigger than expected once I recorded the audio and put all the footage together.
I think in the future I might try to make videos that aren't quite so big (or cut most of the extra illustrations entirely since they're the thing that really adds to development time. Maybe max 15 per video?).

My Thoughts on the possibilities for Splatoon 4
Alright, with the Grand Festival currently going on, I thought I'd chip in with my thoughts on what the next entry in the franchise. So prepare for a decently long yap session.
So, first of all, we have that point made in the Nintendo Direct about 3 being "the finale of this Splat-tastic Saga". What I believe is meant by this is that 3 is the last game with the Squids Vs Octopus conflict as the throughline for the story. Splatoon 4 is going to shift it's focus on a different part of the lore/world and have a very different main conflict in its story mode.
A lot of people were saying its the end of Splatoon as a whole, but I find that unlikely given how successful the franchise is. I also see folks saying that the next game won't have any of the old characters, which I also think is unlikely. I feel like we'll definitely still see the Idols again, they will just be more in the background (ie. You won't have Callie and Marie as your Mission Control in Hero mode...But you might get the new idols doing that.). They could drop the New Squidbeak Splatoon (ie. the Agents), but I think they'll be refenced somewhere.
They're not gonna get rid of all the old characters. We'll probably still have Sheldon running the next hub area's Ammo Knights, for example.
I do hope they do more with Deep Cut at some point, and it would be nice to see Agent 4 again, since all of these characters were underutilised in 3 in my (and many others) opinion.
Second point, the Splatfest itself: Past v Present V Future. Since Splatoon's "present day" occurs in real time, I don't think we're gonna have a huge time skip backwards or forwards in Splatoon 4. I think like with 3, the winning team is going to determine the setting and "vibes" of the next game.
If past wins, the hub area will be a historic, traditional town, maybe it'll be set in Calamari County, from the Squid Sister's backstory? We could them see what Craig Cuttlefish gets up to in his retirement (and if he's still stuck in Squid Mode).
If present wins, I think Splatoon 4 might be set in Inkopolis or Splatsville again, but maybe for the latter things have improved a bit thanks to Deep Cut's adventures? (the story mode could play into this and give them some much needed focus).
Another possibly for present could see one of the Octarian domes as the setting if present wins, and the story is about helping the people out and making the place liveable again. This could form a very nice conclusion to DJ Octavio's character, if they want to fully commit to him being redeemed and improving things for his people.
If future wins, we might arrive in a high tech, maybe very wealthy city. This location would very likely be completely new, maybe even in a completely different part of the world. So who knows what'll happen here.
Third point: Plot foreshadowing that is in the games.
Okay, so we know that Lil Judd is likely going to be a Big Bad at some point, highly likely the next game. It's heavily implied that he's the new owner of GrizzCo Industries, taking over in Mr.Grizz's absence. I wonder how he could use the company...They did say they'd "find good use" for the 1.5 Billion Golden Eggs we stole collected during the Grand Festival Big Run.
Which you'd think is disconnected from his plans to overthrow Judd, but I'm sure Nintendo can cook up something. Even if it makes no friggin' sense for the character (side eyeing RoTM), it's at least be cool.
The Octarians seem to have made peace, Kamabo Co. dissolved with Tartar's destruction, and Mr.Grizz the Capitalist Space Bear is...Probably chilling on the moon now (although there is potential for GrizzCo to get involved, see above.). Overlorder and the Jelletons are contained to a VR game, and the former seems to be slowly rehabbed by Agent 8 kicking their ass over and over again.
The Salmonids on the other hand...
We also know that the Salmonids have been given much more importance in Splatoon 3, with Big Run and all that jazz. Our beloved Gremlin Fish are also the only big "villain" faction that still exists as of Splatoon 3. (Well, until Nintendo makes another new one.) They have, like, organisation, and ramping up their war efforts and have Full On Goddang Kaiju in their ranks. Plus the numbers done on them in the Big Runs.
Just saying, I'd be pissed too if my population was decimated because some Boneless Teenagers care more about seeing some celebrities sing songs in a desert than respecting another race of people that are different from them.
Something very Fishy will likely be going down in Splatoon 4.
Of course, at this point I also think there's a very good chance that the next Splatoon game will be a spin-off. Pretty much anything goes. A lot of people want a game about the Great Turf War. Maybe Squid Beats will become its own dedicated game (very likely a phone game.). Pretty much anything could go here.
Anyways, I might not play the game that much (and even then exclusively Salmon Run), but I'm invested enough in the world and characters to be excited about what happens next.
What do you guys think?

DnD Campaign Update
Okay, so my Pheonix City Adventures campaign has been going pretty well all things considered. Did have a player drop out, then a second player I had to kick (long story), but everyone else says they're having a good time (and things should feel even better with the problem player removed.).
Learned a lot of stuff about the DM experience, especially with stuff like on-the-spot rulings and communicating with the players. Combat and encounters are still very much an area I need to work on.
The group recently turned Level Three, and are currently in the middle of exploring a haunted house (and it's Otherworld counterpart.), and will resume next session. They've been putting together the mystery of the house and it's abandonment while fighting the strange creatures that have taken over (mostly homebrew monsters, many will need tweaks for next time I run this particular adventure).
Just gotta figure out what to do with the problem player's character now that they're gone. Thing is, this was the beginning of a small arc for this character, so I'll have to rework the next handful of sessions too, which shouldn't be too much work to be fair.
Yeah, and once the quest is cleared, they'll get the house for themselves, which they can either sell or spend some of the gold they earn on their journey to get the place fixed up and nice again. Decided to drop in these "projects" that they players can invest Gold into relatively early, since two of them are also looking to get driving lessons (one want and motorbike and the other wants an RV the group can travel around in.).
It's been about a month of playing now, and, yeah, hopefully things will get better from here. Haven't got much prep work to do this week, though I might give myself a small head start on future quests.
Also, I have been kinda ill this week, but when my voice is normal again I'll try to do the audio recording for the Ultraman video at some point soon.

So, Splatoon 3's almost over, picked the game up again for the Grand Run (top tier stage) and might try to log on for the festival itself (Y'know, after we've probably made the Salmonids an endangered species to "save" it.).
Yeah. That went fast. I might not have been a super dedicated player or anything, but I think I've had a pretty good time with Splatoon 3. Gonna be on Team Future.
I missed the opportunity to make art for FNAF's 10 year anniversary, so thought I'd make up for it with something Splatoon. Might be the last time I end up drawing these Goofy Aah Kaiju Fish, at least for a while. I do wanna make more Splatoon stuff every now and then, (still got plans for Operation: Rock Out! as a one-shot story.) , but with less of a focus on Salmon Run and on other characters/parts of the world.

a really long analysis about fanon Marina and the flanderization by fandom she has gotten
fanon marina (the version created by the fans) mainly focuses on two things, her being autistic coded and her being basically confirmed to be a lesbian. And I do think this has to do with her being VERY much like a typical splatoon fan in many people’s eyes. Her being a nerdy queer neurodivergent person. This is also why other parts, especially her relationship with her being an octoling gets often locked away. Subconsciously at least
if Marina was a book, several chapters would focus on her identity as a dome octoling. Her being autistic would probably pop up here and there, but it wouldn’t be a whole chapter. But her very much gay relationship with Pearl would definitely have a few chapters. But with people focusing on those few lines and chapters rather than the whole book. People would slowly ignore the other chapters, get shocked like Adam Sandler learning Pac-Man was the bad guy in the hit movie pixels.
the splatoon fandom’s western side is mainly white Americans and Europeans. Which is one reason why the fanon Marina doesn’t focus on her identity as an octoling, but also on how many details are not really told to the player. Marina barely shows her ears, which can both be read as her having sensory issues (which is a super valid headcanon(, but also her not feeling super comfortable with her body. With her ears being a reminder of her “you are with people who still think you are only going to steal stuff”. Her tentacles may be weird, she may lack the eyeliner an inkling has. But those things can simply be a stylistic choice. Her ears can’t be one. They are too different. I also know the DLCS focuses more on her identity as a dome octoling. However many can understand how her arc as a whole can be paralleled to the real life experiences of people belonging to marginalized ethnic communities. I also want to point, while writing this. I realized (which many people probably already did). Dome octolings you see outside of the domes (splatoon 2 octolings, Marina, Acht, Paul), are all refugees. They are all characters who grew up in a society that had been shunned for decades, even centuries. That society ended up being oppressive both due to external and internal issues. They know the society they’re living in is no longer a good place to live in. So they escape. Hoping to find a place that will take them on. For agent 8, Marina, and Paul. They found a safe place. Acht wasn’t super lucky however. They were told they could find a “promised land” only to be left in even more ruin before. So not only does Marina’s character arc focus on her being a part of an ethnic minority, but a refugee at that. so why does fanon marina usually avoid that part of her? Well as a mentioned before. Marina has three things that makes her very relatable. While the more backstory focused things are less relatable to a way smaller margin of the splatoon fandom. A way smaller part of the fandom are poc in a very white country. And a very small percentage are refugees.
if we removed Marina’s backstory. We would still be left with the fanon version. A nerdy autistic lesbian who deeply loves Pearl. I love how Nintendo got a game that also isn’t afraid to show a society that cares about queer people if not is queer centric itself. Which is probably why many people cling to that part of Marina. But if we removed that part. What would we be left with? Well, we would have an octoling refugee who is a trained soldier and can create weapons of destructions (and she would still be in love with Pearl, it is an important part of her backstory). im not saying the splatoon fandom’s openness to lgbtq and neurodivergent people is a bad thing just because they boil down one of the most plot heavy characters down to those things. It is actually a really great thing to have a fandom that is open to these marginalized groups.
i just want to say, due to this love for Marina being a character you can relate to. It feels like certain parts of Marina’s character (which can also be very relatable to some) is being drifted away to the more lore centric side of the fandom. Which will lead to a sort of fandom flandarization which is very unintentional and just done due to a love of Marina as a character.
If you’ve read this an disagreed, that is fine. Character writing is a very subjective thing

BrambleWood Cafe, Somewhere in the Faerie Realm.
First attempt at creating a battle map by hand, rather than using Dungeon Scrawl. The perspective's a bit wonky, but I think it looks good enough for this week's session.
Been creating a few bits and pieces art wise for my campaign. Once my Ultraman video is done, I'm considering turning this DnD project into some videos itself maybe. Like, might go back over after the game's done and work on making some "proper" art for it while I share funny player stories or something.

Homebrew Dnd Campaign Update
Okay, so it was the second proper session of the Homebrew Campaign I've been running, and the party were set to do their first job as "real" adventurers...
I'd prepared a pretty goofy quest about stopping the experiments of a Necromancer DJ that was intended to set up the campaign setting as a relatively light-hearted and comedic one...
From the players I then got the fracturing of a love triangle that had barely even formed, which rapidly escalated during the boss fight when the Monk went down, the Fighter flew into a rage and almost started a PvP fight that THE BARBARIAN had to step in and help stop (along with the second monk being the Only Sane Man).
Then there was quite a bit of angst afterwards, with family secrets and allusions to backstory trauma that the players heavily implied that might go into next time.
Man, I missed playing DnD so much, it's wild.

me again. okay i know you're in ultraman mode right now, but do you have any other drawings of your design for Zigra and may i draw him perchance
Y'know, when I finish the Ultraman video I do wanna have a crack at Gamera and some of his monsters. I've just been really busy at the moment since I've started running DnD games again.
There is a lot of stuff I wanna get to though, I'll keep Zigra in mind.

Meanwhile on Tatara Island....
Tumblr media
“Alright, so ya might be wonderin’ why I called you lot ‘ere.” Announced Red King, “Well, I called you lot ‘ere ‘coz it’s about time we all paid a visit to that punk Ultraman Stella’
And I know we all got a problem with ‘im.”
Those pesky Kaiju are most definitely up to something.
Bit more Ultraman Helios worldbuilding, I guess. Yeah, there's "monster islands" here too where STAR tends to relocate and occasionally study kaiju they come across.
Okay, the second image will make a lot more sense in the full video, TL:DR-It's an abandoned alien base that some of the monsters have repurposed. For the purposes of the story in the video I'm gonna have the monsters talk, but I don't think that would actually be something that would carry over into this hypothetical show if it was actually made.
