#in stars and time#isat#siffrin#josh art tag#happy pride yall!#getting to play as a nonbinary protag who is also ace was just so so cool#im hoping to draw the main 6 with their flags for pride#cuz this game and its lgbt-ness makes me so happy and its awesome that its canon!#i also really love the varied relevancy of the lgbt themes#cuz its certainly not the plot of the story#but some characters lgbt-ness is quite important to their backstory or their current struggles!#while for others its just kinda there!!#and i think thats great#its a good reflection of real life and how different people have different experiences being lgbt and how it affects their lives differently#and works well with the story#it doesnt get in the way at all while still being important to the characters#and it even fits into the worldbuilding so well????#truly if there were no mentions of the Gender Themes i think the worldbuilding wouldnt have been quite as good#mirabelle specifically really gets to me...#prolly cuz im. yknow. aroace too#but seeing how she felt she was betraying her religion? how she fept she needed to change to fit other peoples expectations?#and how earlier in the game she does actually say breaking traditions is also a part of the change belief#but she doesnt realize that can extend to her#it all hits really hard for me

... this is incredibly hurtful and transphobic.
I shouldn't have to detransition to talk about the issues I face because I am transmasc, and implying such is fucking awful. We are not "obsessed with our status as AFABs" (those of us that are). It's not bioessentialist to state that some of us experience misogyny or bigotry relating to our bodies.
And they are literally just calling us "misguided little girls" and saying the TERFS are right (also wild to acknowledge terf rhetoric that primarily targets transmasc/some nonbinary people then... agree with it???)
#transandrophobia#The only thing I cut out was OP's username#also I don't want to fucking hear that I'm 'obsessed with agab' or 'bioessentialist' for discussing real life problems that I face#it reminds me of that one time a different person mockingly said 'oh so this person just thinks being afab is a specific axis of oppression#when I brought up how abortion rights and 'women's healthcare' can negatively affect trans people that can get pregnant#esp when we are frequently left out of those conversations#like I'm sorry but the way my body works is kinda relevant to how I experience my life#sorry if I'm making it 'my whole identity'

Two questions regarding the Wardi religion:
In addition to the bull and the lioness, what are the seven faces of god/sacrificial animals?
Given that white animals seem to be sacred, does that influence how albino humans/other sophents are treated by society?
The seven faces of God are as follows:
-the lunar, horned, or 'wild ox' face of God, which presides over the moons, and the fertility of the land, animals, and people. In pre-imperial times, this was functionally the most central face of God (replaced by the lion face/odomache). The most ideal sacrifice is a wild ox (especially white or albino) that has never been bred. -the âoxâ face of God, presides over agriculture and labor, as well as the domestic sphere. The most ideal sacrifice is a healthy plow oxen or khait who has never been yoked or bred (if the sacrifice is towards Ox-Face as the domestic sphere, this should be a heifer). -the lion face of God, presides over sovereignty, statehood, military might, and is most associated with the health and continuing existence of the imperial entity. The most ideal sacrifice is a maned lioness (functionally white, though this is a trait of the captive population). -the ocean or skimmer face of God, presides over the seas, winds, as well as fortune and mercantilism. The ideal sacrifice is the skimmer gull or an albatross, especially one taken from one of the sacred rocks in the 'mouth' of the Viper sea. -the serpent face of God, presides over the cosmos and divine Mysteries, associated with funerary rites and death. Also has a wildly disparate association with royalty (which is derived from entirely separate traditions and has not yet fully been reconciled into the faith). The ideal sacrifice is a two headed or melanistic snake, especially a venomous one (both would be MOST ideal, but this is rare beyond any practicality) -The solar face of God, presides over the sun, stars, and fire, also heavily associated with khait and mounted warriors. (this is a VERY direct import from the chief solar god in the Burri pantheon (who rides and/or is a khait with the sun between its horns), hence the seemingly random khait association). The ideal sacrifice is a healthy riding khait (especially with a white spotted coat), or alternatively a golden eagle. -The river face of God, presides over fresh water, seasonal flooding, and the rains. The ideal sacrifice is the migratory reed duck (which arrives at the onset of the wet season) or a freshwater hesperornis (ideally taken from one of the sacred waters). An-Nechoi are also occasionally given.
Though the core religion is monotheistic, each face of God is functionally a syncretic fusion of older ethnic Wardi beliefs, the Burri pantheon, and other regionally native traditions, which have not all been fully reconciled (the process of fusion is more or less still ongoing). Each face in of itself has dozens or more epithets with distinct features. For example, the river face has a specific epithet for each major riverway, each venerated as a distinct aspect of the Godhead. Functionally, common practice of the Wardi faith is pretty indistinguishable from polytheism, and most of the religious authority does not care as long as required orthopraxy is maintained (the central dogma of the religion does not care How you believe, but that the correct practices are enacted).
Also for reference, these are the specific animals taken on the pilgrimage in the story (transporting seven rare animals cross country can be fraught, so each had at least a few backups):
A pure white aurochs calf, found naturally born in a wild herd.
A massive, unbred and unyoked bull draft khait (dies en route, replaced by a less physically impressive backup with the same qualities)
A lioness with a full mane, from the white captive stock
A skimmer gull taken from a nest on the sacred rock in the waters of Od-Koto.
A baby two headed cobra (which dies en-route and is replaced with its backup, a melanistic viper)
A beautiful speckled riding khait mare whose horns form a near perfect circle (which is stolen en-route and replaced with its sister)
A rare wild hesperornis (haven't come up with an in-universe name yet) taken from the reeds of the Brilla river delta.
Anyway the sacrifices listed above are considered the absolute IDEALS when working with a specific face, but a great variety of animals will be sacrificed to various ends. Thereâs some very specific cultural/religious components to which animals are most valued, but in practice the value of a sacrifice is pretty close to 1:1 with the animalâs monetary value, at an intersection of utility and rarity.
So a young, healthy bull plow oxen who has never been bred or yoked is a more valued sacrifice than an old, experienced plow ox who has already sired offspring. You are giving up an extremely valuable animal and all its unused potential in a very practical sense, which makes the sacrifice more potent and valued. The 'virginal' status of the animal is key when the rite is SPECIFICALLY related to fertility, in the sense that the animal itself is sacrificing its unused fertility, allowing for the sacrifice-rebirth cycle to perpetuate. (Animals which Have been bred may be preferred in certain cases and rituals).
An animal with a rare coloration is usually going to be more valuable than one with more common genetics. This is the core root of why albino animals are of high value. It's less that white animals themselves are valued, just that rare genetics such as albinism = valuable sacrifice.
There are some specific exceptions where the color itself is significant (rather than just an extension of its rarity). God is specifically supposed to have taken the form of a white aurochs (itself emerged from the foam of the sea) during creation, so white oxen and wild oxen SPECIFICALLY have especially high value. Melanism or black scales are valued to the serpent face of God, which is associated with the cosmos and void behind the stars. (this stems from much, MUCH older beliefs in a cosmic serpent god in the region).
Animal sacrifice is a very significant part of the religious framework and involved in most rituals and prayers intended to affect significant change and transformation. (This is due in part to a deeply ingrained belief in the world being perpetually sustained in a cycle of sacrifice and rebirth, and in God Itself being the physical mechanism of rebirth and requiring sacrifice to be sustained). While blood itself is seen as potent, the nature of sacrifice isn't just 'spill blood and make thing happen', it's got a self contained value system and is very calculated and intentional in nature. You arenât going to just grab a random rat and bleed it and pray, there needs to be a perceived âlossâ. Sacrifice via killing is also not the only form, the most common day to day sacrifice is in (very minor) bloodletting and offerings of food and drink- the key is allowing a personal loss to sustain a greater cycle.
That being said, there is a HUGE trade system built up around the breeding and selling of animals solely for sacrifice. The industry revolves mostly around birds (doves are the cheapest, but also poultry, waterfowl, some birds of prey, a few select songbirds and ornamental birds), goats, sheep, and horses (the small, premodern kind). Cattle and camelids are a higher tier, and khait are among the highest of common sacrifices due to their great value.
Other animals that have no direct utility but are sacred are also bred or captured for sacrifice (hesperornis, lacetor, gulls and albatrosses, several kinds of snake, a bunch of wild ungulates, nechoi, etc). Some '''âexoticâ''' animals are imported specifically for this purpose, mostly as a means of displaying the wealth and reach of the state, with their sacrificial value rooted in the difficulty of acquisition. Animals taken from sacred sites are also prime candidates (ie cattle bred and grazed on the foothills of the Sons of Creation are VERY valuable).
---
So all that being said the importance of albino animals has come off a little overstated on my part, and doesn't have any particular impact on how albinism in people is regarded. Itâs valued mainly for its rarity in the context of animal sacrifice, which would not have direct translations to how itâs perceived in people.
Albinism in people doesnât have a super well defined significance in broader Imperial Wardi culture, but perspectives mostly skew negative and towards seeing it as a sign of ill fortune (physical differences in people tend to be seen as a result of being cursed in the womb). Imperial Wardin is culturally diverse (united mostly by a identity based in shared religion), so exact nuances would vary and this statement should not be taken as a universal.
Imperial Wardi population is mostly human (with its citizen population being MAYBE 5% elowey, 2% qilik, and a decimal point of caelin). Overall sentiment towards other sophonts by the human majority is not outright hostile, but is human-centric and tinged with xenophobia (as most qilik and elowey in the region are immigrants, with the only elowey ethnic group historically inhabiting the region (the Jazait) being regarded as 'heathens'). Albino elowey or qilik might be similarly seen as products of a curse, or may be given a 'wow how beautiful' treatment (in a heavily patronizing capacity) and seen as a curiosity, or otherwise just subject to varying perspectives on albinism in the region.
The one other thing I have established in this vein is that the semi-mythological hero Janise (sworn brother of other semi-mythological founder hero Erub) is said to have been albino. While he is positively regarded, he is supposed to have died young of a snakebite (assumed to be the product of a curse from his enemies) and this would not improve perceptions of albinism being related to ill fortune.
#For a while I was typing aurochs as aurox. And this WAS intentional but I don't know what the point was because neither word would#be used in-universe (it's just translated as 'wild ox' in text) and it's not indicating a distinction with a real animal (like 'tyger' is).#So yeah it's back to just 'aurochs'.#Also Janeys is named after the historical Janise ('Janeys' is a more contemporary variant and is also a SUPER common name)#(variants include Janis Janes Jannes Janey Jani Jane Janus.....etc)#There's also like 10 trillion people named Erub or Erubi or Erubin or Erubnos or Urib or Urbi or Urbin .. etc#Super committed to realism by having several characters in the same story with the same name. There's like 4 background#characters with Erub names and 2 other Janeys variants. Which is hard on the reader and kind of bad writing but suffer with me. etc.#None of this is related to core post questions I just can't not elaborate on various niche details#OH ONE SEMI RELEVANT THING. Hesperornis is not extinct in this setting but only freshwater species survive in the contemporary#They don't get as big as the marine species we know from Real Life but they're still pretty big and flightless and only live in#large healthy river in this region (therefore are increasingly diminished) and are considered sacred#I got a couple drawings on deck that involve them but I don't think they've come up on here before#the white calf#imperial wardin

Okay I can't work on it right now but someone please remind me in like a week that I want to make a cria plushie, closer to life size than I usually make my plushies
#my aunt and uncle run an alpaca farm and it's cria season#and they keep posting pictures and they are so ridiculously adorable#I mean technically they are not my aunt and uncle#they are my dad's friends that I (as a small child) unilaterally decided were family#because my uncle is really really good with animals and they always had a bunch#and I loved animals so much as a little kid I was like okay clearly they have to be family#so that I can visit more often and see puppies. the only solution#and then I taught my little brother that they were our aunt and uncle#not really on purpose but also by that time it stuck#and I did get to see the puppies more often!#and now they run a farm! and people bring them rescue animals all the time#I haven't seen them in a few years but last time I was there my uncle walked up to me and handed me a sheep#and then I was just standing there very surprised holding a sheep who was also very surprised#the first time I ever saw a frog in real life (and not at a zoo) was at my aunt and uncle's house#it wasn't their frog it was just a frog chilling on the wall by their door#that's not relevant I just think they are super cool#both frogs and my aunt and uncle

God q!BBH is fascinating. His paranoia especially. q!Bad has called himself paranoid in character btw. multiple times. but the one example that immediately comes to mind is when he was talking to q!Aypierre. When people call him paranoid he doesnât really say âNuh uhâ (at least not seriously - heâs become a little more self-aware) he says âokay maybe I am, maybe Iâm not. but donât you understand why?â
for q!BBH the price of potentially overreacting and hurting his friendsâ feelings with his lack of trust is significantly outweighed by the price of an egg fucking dying because he decided to relax. He has been the deciding factor in a life-or-death situation for an egg multiple times. And his overreactions have saved lives. Obviously his developing belief that heâs like the Lone Responsible Caretaker of the Eggs is like blatantly incorrect but it didnât come into existence in a void. It isnât just one of his inventions itâs a consequence of other parents putting (whether purposely or accidentally) a lot of pressure on him that he tried and failed to escape from.
So he doesnât care if heâs paranoid, he doesnât care if his distrust hurts people, he doesnât care about whatâs reasonable or not - he cares about the eggs being alive. And if being unreasonable has kept the eggs alive in the past then damn you better believe heâs only going to get more unreasonable. And heâs not going to be sorry about it either, not while he feels responsible for every single child on the island.
#also people in real life experience paranoia so when people call q!bbh annoying or stupid for it⌠kinda makes me go Hm.#coming from someone w a personality disorder btw#and while I donât experience paranoia as a symptom there are other aspects of q!bbh that I def relate to#idk I guess Iâm just#like yeah sure he got defensive at q!Bagi and she probably didnât expect him to go off on her like that but#experiencing paranoia does not make you less deserving of being acknowledged yknow?#anyway sometimes the way q!BBH is talked about kinda tows the line of ableism#am i being crazy rn? i donât know#this is mostly about older twitter stuff that Iâve seen cropping up from wayyy back#Iâve had this in the drafts for a while but his convo w Bagi made it relevant again

youâve mentioned a few times in your meta that you view nmj as being hypocritical, and iâm inclined to agree with you! would you share some specific quotes from the text that you feel especially support this reading of his character? đ
It is one of my favourite words to apply to him, isnât it! I think thatâs because a) itâs true, and b) NMJâs reputation for righteousness (and his belief in his own righteousness) grant an in-universe illusion of consistency that often bleeds through to external readings of him. So I press the point, because itâs fundamental to his character and I usually see it elided or reduced to all-bark-and-no-bite-grumpy-bear-with-a-heart-of-gold fanon NMJ.
And oh yes, thereâs an absolute wealth of quotes supporting this. As always, I use the EXR fan translation because Iâm old school.
Christ, this got long. Click for more.
Itâs all relative, man
First we need to establish what NMJâs principles supposedly are.
[Nie Huaisangâs] brother, Nie Mingjue, was extremely resolute when carrying out orders, quite renowned in the cultivation world. [âŚ] Nie Mingjue had always taught his younger brother with extreme harshness, particularly caring for his studies. (Chapter 13)
[âŚ] he took over the Nie Sect before he even reached twenty, doing everything in a direct, forceful fashion. (Chapter 21)
When he lived, Nie Mingjue was often exasperated by the fact that his brother didnât meet expectations, so he disciplined him strictly. (Chapter 21)
In spite of Nie Mingjue being a junior to Jin Guangshan, he conducted himself in a strict manner and refused to tolerate Xue Yang no matter what. (Chapter 30)
Without any hesitation, Nie Mingjue scolded, âDrinking the water he brought you while speaking such spiteful words! Did you join my forces not to kill the Wen-dogs but to make idle talk?!â (Chapter 48)
âA proper man should carry himself with proud righteousness. Thereâs no need to care for the talk of those idlers.â (Chapter 48)
As we can see, NMJ is all about righteousness, but we donât get too many details confirming what that righteousness entails. Weâre expected to make assumptions based on context: that his values are in line with the ideal values of his society, and that heâs living his life according to those principles (and enforcing said principles on others).
This is worth keeping in mind. We know NMJ is ârighteousâ. We know, in a general sense, what societal standards for morality are in this setting and we see the tension between societyâs theoretical standards, its actual standards, and the moral frameworks of characters such as WWX and LXC. And thereâs tension between those standards and NMJâs moral framework, too. But though WWX attempts (and fails) to opt out and LXC attempts (and fails) to find a better way through open conversation and consideration of context, their failures are not due to hypocrisy but instead larger forces at play. In other words, they go up against society and society wins.
NMJ has a problem with society too, but for him the problem is not with its rules and assumptionsâitâs with the individuals who make it up. He has no problem with the system. To NMJ, the system is a good thing. If only the people in it would rigidly conform to the rules, everything would be fine. And an outlook like that can only ever lead to hypocrisy, not just because human beings and their actions donât fit into rigid categories, but because by not attempting to navigate the system (LXC, JGY, JC) or even attempting to opt out (WWX, LWJ, XY), NMJ positions himself above society, as a moral arbiter.
This is why he feels entitled to upbraid JGS, who is a generation above him. Itâs why he feels entitled to harass and attempt to murder JGY for not being loyal to NMJ over and above his filial duty to his father. These actions are after heâs reached the point of no return with the sabre spirit, yes, but they didnât come out of nowhere. Itâs just the nadir of a path heâs been on presumably his entire life.
All the information is on the task
NMJ is very good at bending his supposedly rigid principles when itâs convenient for him, while not offering any grace or understanding to others who do the same. And âothersâ, letâs be real, usually equates to JGY. The horror vortex of NMJâs obsession with controlling JGY really cannot be escaped.
Letâs start with the biggie. JGY is naturally the one who calls NMJ out, because heâs the only one who can see the emperor has no clothes, and by clothes I mean leg to stand on.
âBut, Brother, I have always wanted to ask you somethingâthe lives under your hands are in any regard more than those under mine, so why is it that I only killed a few cultivators out of desperation and you keep on bringing it up, even until now?â (Chapter 48)
âAre you saying that all of the people you killed deserved their deaths? [âŚ] Then, may I ask, just how do you decide if someone deserves death? Are your standards absolutely correct? If I kill one but save hundreds, would the good outweigh the bad, or would I still deserve death? To do great things, sacrifices must happen.â (Chapter 48)
Chifeng-zun, my man, he has nailed you. The point is not to start drawing equivalences in quite the way JGY is doingâI would certainly argue that if youâre killing undeserving people for the greater good youâd better have one hell of a greater good to be aiming for, even in the crapsack world of MDZS. JGYâs argument is partly a numbers game, but I want to set that aside, because itâs a distraction from his core point, to which numbers are irrelevant: can NMJ truly justify every single murder he has ever committed? Because if he canât, heâs condemned by his own supposed standards. Note JGYâs use of the word âabsoluteâ. NMJ is a moral absolutist! Is he absolutely sure? And if he is sure, does it matter that heâs sure? Why is his certainty more important than anyone elseâs?
NMJ never once grapples with these questions. If he did, he might be able to pull the teeth of his own hypocrisy by acknowledging it and engaging with it. But of course heâs not capable of that, certainly not by the time of this scene.
And speaking of NMJâs hypocrisy re: who does and doesnât deserve to dieâŚ
âVery well! Iâll kill myself after I kill you!â (Chapter 49)
But Roquen, you cry! NMJ says such an utterly mad thing because heâs battered and beaten and not thinking clearly, not to mention past the point of no return with the sabre spirit as heâs been cultivating with resentful energy intensely throughout the war! Thatâs why he walks it back after LXC intervenes!
To which I say: it is almost as though context matters!
And yes, Iâm aware of the context. Iâm aware that just before this bit of dialogue the narrative claims JGY pointing out âif I hadnât killed them youâd be deadâ is a subtle way of saying âyou canât kill me because you owe me your lifeâ as though thatâs purely manipulative rather than being, you know, true. âEven if you refuse to accept I acted for the best, please donât kill me and Iâm going to subtly remind you that you owe me to maximise my chances of getting you to not kill me (after I just risked my life to save yours when it would have been 100x better for me personally if you died)â is hardly an outrageous position.
Itâs interesting, though, isnât it, that NMJ never again mentions taking his own life as a matter of principle, despite the fact that he subsequently attempts to murder JGY again for the apparently unforgivable crime of ⌠not being able to overrule his abusive father about XY, and then having the temerity to complain to LXC about NMJâs attempt to murder him.
Obviously the Jin are a huge threat after the war, but these are all pretty feeble reasons for piling on JGY. Sure, maybe JGY would also have tried to protect XY if JGS werenât around, but the fact is that JGS is around and heâs calling the shots. Besides, once JGS is out of the picture JGY has no issue disposing of XY (with Dr Evil levels of ineptness, apparently), so thatâs a fairly decent indicator heâs not ride or die. As for the fact that JGY is making nice to NMJâs face but complaining behind his back, well. Regardless of any genuine desire to vent to his only friend, I have no doubt he was indeed trying to drive a wedge between NMJ and LXC as a strategic move. But is it wrong of him to do so, considering NMJ is a genuine and present threat to his life and LXC is just not getting it? And does any of the above, including his struggle to maintain his position and all the other work he does for his father mean he deserves deathâimmediate, extrajudicial and violent death?
Let me put it this way. NMJ is making JGY responsible for his fatherâs actions and his fatherâs ordersâthe question of whether JGY is on board with his fatherâs instructions is academic, because he has no choice in the matter. JGY cannot opt out of his situation. The only opt out is death, and that is not a meaningful choice because no one else is getting vilified for having the audacity to fight for their place in their world rather than lie down and die. And even if JGY really were a cackling supervillain 100% on board with his fatherâs diabolical plans, NMJâs focus on him to the exclusion of JGS is driven by emotion and not by a rational evaluation of the morality and logistics of the situation.
And when heâs insisting that JGY deserves death (and trying to mete it out to him) NMJ never again considers for a moment whether, if JGY really deserves to die, then maybe he does too.
As a third example, to make it a hat trick, we have this:
However, Jin Guangyao wasnât his subordinate anymore. Only after they became sworn brothers would he have the status and the position to urge Jin Guangyao, like how he disciplined his younger brother, Nie Huaisang. (Chapter 49)
âBrother, it really was my fatherâs orders. I couldnât refuse. Now. if you want me to take care of Xue Yang, what would I say to him?â (Chapter 49)
NMJ is perfectly aware that according to the rules of their society and the moral framework he himself subscribes to, JGYâs highest authority is his father. But NMJ canât accept that. He thinks he should be the ultimate authority over JGY, and though he couches it in moral terms about wanting JGY to follow the correct path, what he really means is what he himself considers to be the correct path. As always, he doesnât listen to JGYâs perfectly valid points about how itâs not possible for him to do the ârightâ thing as he just doesnât have that kind of authority and will only end up making his own life worse. I donât have a quote demonstrating this, but considering everything we know about NMJ, I think we can infer he would not take kindly to JGY ordering NHS to do something futile and self-destructive in the name of the correct path, purely on the grounds that JGY is now his elder brother.
Iâll acknowledge again that JGY is absolutely an accomplice in his fatherâs schemes, and the originator of a fair few of them since heâs politically gifted. But itâs just not possible to untangle JGYâs complicity from his need (and his right!) to survive. NMJ is correct to be concerned about JGY as a risk, because heâs a huge asset to JGS. But once again, making JGY a target is not the moral or even the sensible thing to do. We know JGY enjoys aspects of what his father asks him to do. We also know that once his father is out of the picture he gets rid of XY, purges the Jin of corruption and pushes through the watchtower project. When he has agency as a clan leader he doesnât follow his fatherâs political agenda to the letter, to say the least! So there is certainly a large dollop of truth in his claims that he has no choice and heâs unhappy and vulnerable.
And then a bonus, something not linked to JGY to demonstrate that NMJâs hypocrisy extends beyond his personal vendetta.
Nie Mingjue spoke coldly. âIf she responded with only silence and not opposition when the Wen Sect was causing mayhem, itâs the same as indifference. She shouldnât have been so disillusioned as to hope that she could be treated with respect when the Wen Sect was doing evil and be unwilling to suffer the consequences and pay the price when the Wen Sect was wiped out.â (Chapter 73)
Charming. Funny how NMJ says this after spending the war fighting on the same side as the guy who invented demonic cultivation and controls an army of desecrated corpses, violating every possible social and cultural principle they have. But the Sunshot Campaign would have failed without WWXâs contributions, so I suppose NMJ thought that compromise was acceptable. Itâs all right for him to stay silent and not oppose WWX, since WWX has been useful to his own agenda. Whatâs not acceptable is staying silent when the consequence is your own violent death and literally no good whatsoever being achieved thereby.
Aside from being a hypocrite, NMJ is also pathologically incapable of self-reflection.
Finish him!
At the end of the day, NMJâs principles are inherently contradictory because heâs living in morally relative world where the narrative expects us to take context into account and root for a protagonist who brutally tortures his enemies to death and a romantic lead who find+replaces his ethical framework with âWei Yingâ.
It is simply not possible for NMJ to be both righteous and rigid, so when he chooses to be rigid he foregoes being righteous. Even in his moments of flexibility, he continues to apply harsh standards to others that he refuses to apply to himself. Thatâs what makes him a hypocrite. He isnât a bastion of absolute morality in a sea of corruption. Heâs in denial about the nuanced reality heâs living in, and placing himself on high as a moral authority with no actual mandate. Hypocrisy inevitably results, and the consequences are hugely damaging to everyone around him.

I really want to get into Unicorn Overlord because that prologue slaps and it sounds like an interesting gameplay experience
but
the designs are just...
Camel toes, battle thongs and bouncing boobies that would straight up be from some of the worst FEH alts, furry baits (forget the sniddies, we have foxtits and... owl boobs...) and leg art that would make Duo!Doro look tame in comparaison.
What to do...
#real life#not issues lol just musings#french names are a plus though where can we have another protag be named Alain ffs#watch as the next SRPG will have a hero named Emmanuel or François#also the redshit double standard i want to play to see if it's just redshit or if the game plays it better#carlyle sucks but when it's woman carlyle suddenly it's sad uwus galore and i wish we could recruit her? Dudes#i know it's redshit but damn#but i like the other designs#and the game mechanics in the overworld map#like you have to help rebuild cities who were destroyed and talk to NPCs who are around#and they react to plot events#after the BK duology I miss NPCs#let them be relevant or just flavor text#they are here and exist

APWH preview snippet!
Since I'm actively trying to work on getting the next few chapters out, I thought I'd share a little future scene with some hints of Jonsa with all you lovely people! This bit is from like, a few chapters in the future bc it's the in-between that's giving me fits right now :) (Fair warning: this is unedited and subject to change! That being said, it's such a fun scene that I can't imagine ever nixing it :D)
âDoes he even know that they have to avoid the press?â
âFor the last time-â Sam sighed, sounding completely exasperated, âDickon knows what they can and canât do- heâs got enough practice not being photographed from when our dad was the secretary. Not to mention spending time around you when that exposĂŠ on your crazy grandfather came out two years ago.â
âI just-â Jon sighed, blowing a stray curl out of his face. âYou didnât see how freaked out she was when the press caught us at that performance in White Harbor. I thought she was going to have a full-blown panic attack.â
He was immediately derailed by Gilly plopping little Sam down in his lap and shoving a bottle into his hands.
âWhatâs this all about?â he raised a brow, adjusting the baby on his lap, allowing him to latch onto the cuff of his flannel shirt and start gnawing at the fabric. âYou going somewhere?â
Gilly shot him a withering look, but he saw the amusement in her eyes.
âI-â she gestured, imperiously, âHave not had time by myself to shower all week-â
âSorry, love.â Sam winced, looking up from his pile of paperwork. âI can take a break from these-â
âNot your fault, Sam.â she waved him off. âYou warned me about this conference at the beginning of the summer.â a grin played at the corners of her mouth. âBesides, it works out well- Jon needs a distraction right now from the fact that Sansaâs on a date with your extremely hot and conventionally attractive brother.â
âHey!â Sam looked wounded, and Gilly rolled her eyes, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
âYou know youâre my favorite Tarly.â she wrinkled her nose. âHow long have you been working on this presentation? You smell like the baby spit up on you.â
âGuess Iâm next in line for showers.â Sam said, mournfully. âUnless-â
âNope- I need my own time right now, Samwell. Did you even hear what I said about why Jonâs bent out of shape?â
Jon had known Gilly since Sam and she had met up north while the two of them were in college. Sometimes, it was hard to reconcile the timid, scared girl she had been with the woman who was currently devoting all of her remaining energy to busting his balls.
âDonât tell me youâre worried about Sansa with my brother.â Sam snorted, shotgunning another cup of coffee next to him the way Jon was used to seeing undergrads do with jaeger shots. âI mean, this is Dickon weâre talking about. Used to bring wounded animals home to take care of them Dickon? The same guy who cried when we had movie night and Gilly and Rhae wanted to go see âLove, Simonâ?â He shook his head. âLook, as far as guys she could be out on a date with right now go, Dickonâs kind of the best case scenario. Sheâll have a nice time, and heâll be a perfect gentleman.â
Jon blinked at him, silently turning to look up at Gilly, who rolled her eyes and sighed.
âYouâre hopeless, sweetie.â she kissed him on the forehead again, wrinkling her nose. âHeâs not worried that things will go wrong- heâs worried theyâll go a little too well.â
âYouâve been spending way too much time around my sister.â Jon muttered, narrowly avoiding little Samâs grasping reach for his glasses, managing to get the baby to latch onto the bottle before he destroyed any more of Jonâs eyewear. âYou even sounded like her just then.â
Sam blinked for a second, his head whipping between Jon and Gilly.âYouâre jealous?â He asked, incredulously. âOf Dickon? Wait- you like Sansa?â
âGot there in the end.â Gilly sighed, affectionately patting him on the shoulder before going to shower, leaving Jon and Sam behind with four cups of coffee, one baby, and approximately five brain cells total between the two of them.
âYou like her.â Sam repeated, like it was a giant revelation.
âWhat are we- in middle school?â Jon hissed, immediately turning his head down to smile and make faces at little Sam while he fed him, before glaring up at big Sam again. âI donât- I mean-â
Sam was just shaking his head.âOf course you do.â he laughed. âShould have guessed- red hair and a damsel in distress? You were doomed from the outset.â
âShut up.â Jon muttered, flushing. âItâs not like that.â
âThen why are you worrying about Dickon for fu-â Sam glanced nervously at the baby, â-godâs sake? When Gill was meeting my family for the first time, I remember you told her not to worry- that my brother was âone of the best guys you knowâ and âpractically a golden retrieverâ.â
Jon could tell that Sam, who could not raise one eyebrow without the other, was desperately trying to do just that.
âI donât know.â He muttered, moving little Sam to his shoulder to start burping him. âLook- Iâm attracted to her, alright? Itâs a fu- er, a giant disaster that Iâm gonna ignore for the rest of my life.â
âSeriously?â
âStop trying to do that with your eyebrows.â Jon complained. âItâs giving me motion sickness. And yes, seriously. Iâm not even going to consider that- itâs just a stupid crush. Besides,â he sighed, rubbing little Samâs back comfortingly, âRobbâs already dealing with enough right now with this whole Sansa situation- canât imagine telling him I think his sisterâs attractive while heâs being forced to suddenly confront all of his guilt and self loathing every time he looks at her.â
âThat whole bro code thing of never dating your friendâs sisters never really made sense to me.â Sam shook his head, gulping down more coffee. âI mean, Iâd be thrilled if you decided to date Talla, because I know youâd be good to her.â
âYeah, don't think she'd quite go for that, mate.â Jon snorted, standing to bounce little Sam around gently. He was just grateful Sam hadnât said anything else about Robb.
âEh, wouldnât count you out completely.â Sam shrugged, smirking. âWith that hair, youâre pretty enough to be a girl- maybe thatâd be enough for her.â
âYou are so lucky iâm holding the baby.â Jon muttered, still bouncing little Sam, who picked that moment to spit up spectacularly down Jonâs back.
âWell, thatâs three of us whoâre gonna need showers now.â Sam grinned, looking thrilled as all get out that it hadnât been him. âWow- his aim is getting better.â
âIâm going to remind him of this when heâs a sulky teenager.â Jon grumbled, wiping spit-up off his shoulder as best he could. âLook- no gossiping with Rhae about this, please. She thinks sheâs such a good clandestine agent that she doesnât always realize that Robb is better at sniffing out her plots than she thinks.â
âAlright-â Sam sighed, looking back down at the massive stack of paperwork in front of him. âI make no promises for Gill, though.â
âGilly could give some of my Uncleâs colleagues at the WIA a run for their money when it comes to withstanding interrogation.â Jon snorted.
âProbably true.â
âWhere did your brother take Sansa?â Still holding onto a now much happier baby with one hand, he reached down the other to take a gulp of his own coffee.
âHe said something about going out towards the Tyrell Estate.â Sam shrugged. âThey probably drove out there to see the gardens- heâs said itâs a good road to take his bike out on.â
Jon promptly spat out his entire sip of coffee, staining the front of his shirt as well as the back, and frightening little Sam enough that he started to cry.
âHe took her on his motorcycle?â
Gilly picked that moment to reappear, completely clean and with wet hair, blinking at the scene in front of her.
Sam, who couldnât seem to stop laughing, was desperately trying to calm down the baby, who had started wailing, while Jonâs entire front was covered in coffee and his entire back was covered in baby vomit. Not that he seemed to notice, as his face was white and he was making a series of angry looking hand gestures at her husband.
âI really canât leave you three alone for five minutes, can I?â she sighed. âDo I even want to know?â

Regarding the whole "Fandom Is An Escape, so why should I have to care this much about misogyny/racism/ableism/transphobia/etc." thing. Idk about the rest of you, but it gets kind of hard for me to "escape" when I keep seeing people say the same vile things about characters who share aspects of my identity that I hear all the time in real life.
#gotta say: it doesn't make me feel any better getting ignored/disparaged on account of my gender irl and then seeing every fictional woman#also get ignored/disparaged when there is no material difference between her and popular male characters other than her gender#how do I escape from irl misogyny if y'all keep willfully ignoring and flinging gendered insults at 99% (<-lowball estimate) of#female characters? how do I put aside the ableism I face in real life when y'all discuss disabled/mentally ill characters in the most#absolutely out-of-pocket way? how do I forget about biphobia when the 'arguments' you make 'for fun' about bisexual characters#in fiction sound EXACTLY the same as the things people say about my bisexuality outside of the internet/fan culture?#and then obviously this gets compounded if you are trying to even simply EXIST in fandom as a poc or a trans person or an intersection of#any or all these varying identities/life experiences#like yes caring about fictional characters is not the same as caring about real people OBVIOUSLY I can't BELIEVE I have to keep clarifying#that. and at the same time!! because multiple things can be true at the same time!!!! engaging in behavior that enforces pre-ingrained#societal biases and prejudices!!!!!!!! does not help dismantle those biases and prejudices!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in a real-world way that DOES#involve caring about actual people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#it's also. interesting. when people go on & on about how some newest show about thin cis white (male) gays is So Important & Revolutionary#So We Must Do Everything To Keep It Relevant And Visible and then act this way about women/poc/trans people/disabled people/fat people#in media. so like. you DO agree that seeing a variety of life experiences represented in fiction is beneficial. you DO believe in the#value of depicting marginalized people. interesting that that only seems to apply to a VERY narrow and specific category of marginalization#(ugh remember when I talked about this and someone called me a straight person good times)

I wish I had any way of knowing whether people have gotten Weirder⢠about my name in recent years or if this has been happening behind the scenes the entire time
I've been going by Jay since I was 11. At the time nobody objected to or questioned this, at least not to me; I found out many years later that Jay is supposedly a "boy's name," but nobody ever said 'you can't use that as a nickname, it's a boy's name' and it went completely uncontested by anyone when I switched. Lots of kids announced some manner of name change at the start of a new school year in middle school; it was all normal and fine. My mom and, you know, grandmas and other relatives kept calling me Jessica, which was also fine! I didn't make a big family announcement or correct any relatives on this, I just wanted to differentiate myself from the half dozen other Jessicas in school.
For twenty years!! This has gone on being perfectly normal! My Real Name⢠is an increasingly obscure bit of trivia I get to spring on friends who didn't realize I had one, which is always funny (my brother in law didn't believe me and demanded to see my driver's license). My mom and grandmas have largely still called me Jess, and that's also fine! It's nice, even! There's a particular intimacy there of having a name only my mother uses-- but, crucially, I have never asked her not to, or said that I don't like it. And as FAR AS I KNOW, this has all been true and fine for TWENTY YEARS.
My own feelings about it have never changed, and feel, to me, very straightforward: if I tell you that my name is Jay, and you decide that no it isn't, that is a problem. That's the rule. That's literally it. I had a high school teacher who asked on the syllabus for us to write down if we went by something other than our full name, who was nonetheless UNIQUE among all of my teachers from 6th grade onward in always and only ever calling me Jess, even though I signed all my work Jay, all the other teachers called me Jay, he literally asked whether anyone wanted to be called something else and I answered Jay, and I had him for two semesters. I met a work friend of Justin's once who asked upon introduction whether Jay was short for something, and when I told him it was short for Jessica he took it upon himself to call me Jess instead. This isn't me having a problem with any particular iteration of my name, this is just asshole behavior! I told you what my name was and you said 'no it isn't'. The problem here does not seem complex to me?
But within the last [hand wiggle] handful of years I feel like it keeps getting weirder? Apparently my dad and grandma argued about it at my wedding rehearsal-- she, dramatically, insisting 'I don't care, her name is Jessica, I'm going to call her that ;n;' and my dad angrily defensive that no it isn't, I go by Jay, that should be respected. And I'm sitting here listening to my dad relay this in utter bewilderment like. Well dad I love the energy but I have never been bothered at all if grandma calls me Jessica. I have never even once asked her not to or complained to anyone that she does. But also this is the grandma who HAS called me Jay more often than not?? My mom's mom never picked it up, but I was astonished to hear my dad's mom was acting like this was some New Dramatic Change that she Hated and not a thing she's literally already been doing for, again, twenty entire years. Why are you suddenly making it weird! Last weekend Justin's stepmom mentioned seeing my mom at the hospital where mom works, and how she said something like 'yes I'm Jessica's mom-- wait, no, Jay, she hates it when I do that' and I just?? I literally don't, the only problem now is that people who know me won't know who the fuck you're talking about
all of this and I'm just. I am literally just sitting here. why are we inventing problems out of this two decades later. what is going on
#I went by jess on purpose once in a college art class because there was a guy actually named jay#and I was like 'fuck this is why I dropped jessica in the first place' lmao#one time I put 'jay' on the preferred name line on medical intake paperwork and then when the doc was like 'jay?' I was like OH I hate that#oh no doctors Must Only use my paperwork name it turns out lmao#Justin's work friend calling me jess was so ??? you're not my MOM????#harvest moon awl has a 'what should I call you now that we're married' mechanic for I assume Darling or whatever#but one time I had my video game husband call me jess#justin also in real life has Jess Privilages but he doesn't want them because HE has only ever known me as jay#IT'S CONTEXTUAL. IT'S NOT THE NAME IT'S THE CONTEXT. IT'S THE RESPECT OR LACK THEREOF BEHIND WHAT NAME YOU USE#both my parents suddenly overcorrecting is weird but ultimately fine because the intention is clearly good#my grandma suddenly acting like it's a problem sets my teeth on edge. hey. this was never a problem before. what do YOU think this is about.#uhhh not to get. into it but. my dad is also almost definitely projecting baggage onto the situation that's got nothing to do with me#dad at christmas: it's just disrespectful! if someone tells you their name or their pronouns you don't get to decide they're wrong!!#me: I completely agree. not actually relevant to whether mom specifically calls me jess because that is in fact allowed but. I mean.#me: if you hypothetically told YOUR mom you go by something else now she SHOULD just use that instead. you're not wrong. hypothetically.#AAAANYWAY not to tangent on THAT too much#for ME having a nickname was so normal and it's only very abruptly been made weird by others and I'm baffled and annoyed about it#my mom's stepsister I see every handful of years: hi jess-- oh wait your mom said you go by jay now?#me: I've gone by jay since 2001 what is going ON--#I don't think it even occurred to me to wonder about Gender when it was mr hughes 'jess'ing me in high school but in retrospect I wonder#THE THING IS JAY ISN'T A MAN'S NAME TO ME. I MADE IT UP I DIDN'T KNOW IT HAD A GENDER. IT'S A GIRL'S NAME TO ME BECAUSE IT'S MY NAME!!#DON'T BE FUCKING WEIRD!!!#hhhuuaagh#I've talked about all this before but it came up again TWICE at christmas in ways that made me go STOP BEING WEIRD lmao#so it's on my mind again#about me

You ever think about how the majority of cishet men who either write or star in popular media whose fandoms go absolutely wild (being degenerates) in ways that influence not only international fandom media but even seep into traditional/budgeted/industry media probably don't realise just how much their characters specifically had to do with that, like even the ones that are vaguely aware of and uncomfortable with the way fandom ships them or whatever, they don't know, they don't know what they've done, they don't knowww
#this is my brain after taking psychic damage from strange aeons' new omegaverse video#also girl WTF DO YOU MEAN THERE WILL BE MORE OMEGAVERSE VIDEO AFTER THIS ONE WHAT DO YOU MEAANNNN#strange aeons#like do you think benedict cucumberbatch knows he is the reason there's omegaverse in east asian published media now???#what if he finds out#what would it do to his brain#would he even be able to fully comprehend it#will he and so many others die in blissful ignorance of the consequences of their actions#the true sexism of media is that cishet industry men don't need to take the psychic damage from their media sphere that I do#the true sexism of media is that steven moffat gets to look at the fandom girlies writing smut abt his shows#and misogynistly dismiss them as crazy perverts and bad women and make fun of them in said shows#while I have to sit here and take them seriously bc they are my fandom peers and I know women are people just like everyone else#and these crazy perverts are real life humans with brains a decent portion of whom are better writers than steven moffat#and get paid 0% of the ÂŁÂŁÂŁ he does for it#how can we force A list actors and their relevant writers to watch strange aeons videos this is my question#how can we rob them of their innocence like the rest of us who've had to see their fans get up to shit

Like OK so I've been reading a fic with trans wolfwood in it that is so. HONEST. About how it affected him and still affects him. In a way that's very much not an average cis writer portrayal of a trans character.
Like. Either this writer is trans or did plenty of research, but it just feels REAL to me. And it has me thinking about my own way of writing trans Wolfwood.
I'm not there yet. But I've been thinking about it. The ways that what the EOM did fucked him up... but it also acted as HRT that affirmed his gender. So what do you do when you're in a body you don't recognize, but looks much more like a man than ever before? There's some gender euphoria in a way, but dysphoria at the same time bc you didn't grow into this. You didn't watch yourself transition. Suddenly you just Were this, and it's not you, but also it's nice to finally be seen as a man, but it also feels wrong to feel grateful for any part of what they did to you...
On and on and on
You see? This is what I want to think about with him. This is why trans Wolfwood is so compelling to me. It's just so Complicated, he'd have such Complicated feelings about his body and the way he lives with it. He learns this new body, it starts to feel more like his, but he also mourns the fact that he didn't get to watch it grow into this like he should've.
That kind of thing.
#speculation nation#itnl shit#tagging it bc these r things relevant to itnl ww. because. he is transâşď¸#TRANS WOLFWOOD MY BELOVED!!!!!!!!!!#i wanna do more research into trans things. ive already done a lot. but like#into the actual physical side of it all. the effects of HRT. all those messy little details that people dont often focus on.#some months ago i skimmed thru this writing guide on how to write trans men. and i think i wanna revisit it#read it more slowly and thoroughly.#bc im confident in my ability to write trans characters. considering the fact that im not cis myself.#but im not a trans man. so there r some Things that i just dont know about by virtue of not having experience with HRT#so. research! supplementing my existing knowledge with the perspectives of the actual people im writing about.#and so it goes when ur writing about an experience that is not entirely your own.#it matters to me to make my writing of trans men as realistic as possible.#even with the messy details that people normally shy away from. Especially them.#i pride myself on my realism as much as is within my means of capturing it.#realistic emotions. realistic reactions. realistic bodies.#i am Going to write a trans wolfwood that is So realistic. as much as possible.#(i keep specifying ww with this even tho vash is trans also just bc vash is a bit more uhhhh not human lol#so the definition of what makes him trans is a bit more loose. still inferred by real life experiences#but he wouldnt have the same sorts of experiences with HRT. or gender expression in general#so i feel less of a pressure to capture it as fully accurate to the real life human experience as possible. if that makes sense.)
