Wilhelm von Henneberg - important NPCs

Cecilia von Henneberg (née Töpfer)

Wilhelm wife & love of his life

she has roots in Italy & southern Germany, but after her husband's death Cecilia's pregnant mother left for Henneberg, to live with a friend of hers. shortly before their arrival Cecilia's mother gives birth to a boy, Cecilia's younger brother Johannes, but dies shortly afterwards

the siblings are raised by Bertha, their mother's friend & the widow of a potter

when she's 19 Cecilia meets the young knight Wilhelm & the two of them quickly fall in love, despite the difficulties that causes

against all odds they do get married 2 years later, their eldest son Jonas is already born at that point

she's Wilhelm's most valuable advisor once he becomes count, especially regarding the needs of the common people

she's also headstrong, but much less impulsive than her husband & therefore often the voice of reason between them

Cecilia is abolutely not afraid to kill & do whatever is necessary for her family, especially to protect her children

Jonas von Henneberg

Wilhelm & Cecilia's oldest son & heir of Henneberg

the fact that he was born before his parent's marriage is more or less an open secret that Jonas is aware of. it makes him even more determined to prove himself worthy of his future position as count

he's named for his uncle Johannes, Cecilia's brother, who was killed in battle before his birth

appearance wise, he takes after his father with brown curls & the same green eyes

Maria von Hörselgau (née von Henneberg)

Wilhelm & Cecilia's younger daughter (their third child)

always preferred books to people (relatable queen) & is the most studious out of her siblings

she looks more like her mother with her blonde waves, but her eyes look more like Wilhelm's

named after Wilhelm's little sister (who's also Maria's godmother)

while her parents never want to pressure her when it comes to marriage (given how lucky they've been in that regard), they do want to see her well taken care of in the case of their deaths & therefore introduce some worthy candidates to her

Sebastian von Hörselgau eventually does win her over & when he agrees to her condition of no physical intimacy, Maria accepts his proposal (yes I wrote an asexual character into my story before I even knew the word or identified myself with it, life is funny like that)

her husband dies shortly after the wedding, in the same battle as Wilhelm, so the poor girl has to grieve her father AND a husband she was truly fond of

With extra funds that Wilhelm & Cecilia put away for their children, Maria goes to Italy to study medicine there

Heinrich von Reuß

Wilhelm's older (half) brother & heir to the duchy

literally no redeeming qualities, except for the fact that so much of his cruelty comes from how he was raised

from an early age Heinrich was taught that he needs to protect what's his and if possible even expand their family's influence. power is everything to him

he & Wilhelm have always clashed due to their personalities & upbringing & that only worsens as they get older

when Wilhelm is cast out, Heinrich is the one who doesn't mourn the loss of a brother at all & has no issue cutting all ties. In his eyes, Wilhelm has betrayed the family & is dead to him

on his deathbed, Heinrich's father reveals the truth about Wilhelm's parentage to him, only making the hatred grow & convincing Heinrich that Wilhelm as a bastard doesn't deserve the position as Count of Henneberg & he is entitled to claim it

in the chaos of a battle, Heinrich turns on Wilhelm & kills his brother

in the aftermath he officially wants to claim Henneberg & with Jonas badly wounded & indisposed it's Cecilia who fights to protect her son's inheritance

Heinrich & Wilhelm's younger brother Georg eventually finds out the truth about what happened on the battlefield & with Cecilia's blessing he poisons Heinrich

Ludwig von Erffa

Wilhelm's former lover & now enemy

Wilhelm & Ludwig were friends during their childhood at the duke's court, until Wilhelm left for his education

during the frequent visits throughout their adolescence something else starts to grow from there, leading to shy kisses and touches in the safety of night

while for Wilhelm this is a first love, it grows much more obsessive & consuming for Ludwig. when Wilhelm starts to retreat, that slowly but surely begins to shift to hatred & jealousy (once Wilhelm marries Cecilia)

Wilhelm (being barely 18) also definitely didn't understand that him either keeping his distance or reacting to any verbal jab furiously only stoked up the fire to the point of no return

it all leads to Wilhelm being captured while being on a mission for his uncle & Ludwig imprisoning him in his castle. Though before he can actually go ahead & kill Wilhelm, he is rescued.

At first Wilhelm wants to handle the whole situation quietly, but then he learns that Ludwig also threatened a pregnant Cecilia & their children's life, when she got too close to finding her husband. That is the last straw & his best friends & Cecilia herself can barely keep him from leaving to kill Ludwig immediately & committing a crime he can't come back from

instead Wilhelm takes the matter to the electoral court & challenges Ludwig to a trial by ordeal, that ends with Ludwig's death.

To this day, I think the crack-au with Jason joining Bruce Wayne alike competition for fun and accidentally winning, and this becoming a reason why the whole Batfamily finds out that Jason is alive in the first place, is the funniest version of a fix-it scenario.

Jason, who is constantly making death jokes, and gets back a "dgaf" kind of answers from his siblings. Which he is... used to. Firstly, because it is what siblings supposed to do, be mean to each other, and secondly, because... they are not wrong. His death didn't mean anything. No one cared much about him dying. Yes, they were bothered that he died - a kid, a son and a brother, had died. Everyone mourns dead kids, he wasn't special. Right?

So, he is fine with whatever he gets from his brothers. He often laughs back, even his laughter sounds far too strained to his ears. But, honestly, whatever! It is fine!

Until once, it isn't.

Maybe it is just a bad day. Or maybe his death anniversary is getting closer, and he gets more anxious. Nonetheless, he makes another joke - something about warehouses and crowbars; so, nothing new - and gets a usual funny-snappy reply back, something along the lines And no one cared. And he just huffs, his smile turning to a scowl, and before he can take it back, he shrugs.

'I know.'

Suddenly, it is too quiet in the room. And suddenly everyone is staring - confused, hurt, slightly surprised, even. Jason tries to laugh it off, to make them stop looking at him with so much pity, but his forced laughter sounds too much like a certain clown's in his insane, tired mind, and he ends up murmuring a haste farewell, before practically running away from the cave.

He thinks someone tries to call him back, but he ignores it.

The defeating silence and the looks of pity haunt him in his dreams for the rest of the night.

the parallels of rottmnt.

the way rottmnt portrays the cycle of sacrifice and generational trauma through the concept of the hamato tradition is so beyond phenomenal it’s really hard to articulate with just words how hard it really hits. there’s so many parallels btwn splinter & his history/family than can be seen within raph & leo that can also almost be translated to f!leo & casey in some ways, not to mention the parallels btwn karai and leo as well.

the way splinter tried SO hard to break from that cycle, the way he saw how it effected his family and himself and didn’t want to put his family through it again yet it seemed to be inevitable regardless. he never wanted to have to choose btwn his family and the world and yet even when he made that choice in S1, in the end he still ended up losing a family member (karai) in exchange for time to save the world.

and even though he tried to break the chain so hard, the cycle of sacrifice was still adopted into raph and leo in different ways which was later passed down to donnie and mikey.

not to mention the future timeline where they ended up losing EVERYBODY and in the end of the movie casey is met with the same choice of the world over family just as many family members before him have.

the sacrificial bone and need to protect is just so ingrained into the entire family, to the point where the same events just seem to happen over and over no matter what is done.

the cycle of love and loss, protection and sacrifice, family vs the world. over and over.
