i understand that like, culturally it's a Thing that people get annoyed when any elderly person they're not even close to tells them extensively about their life & their medical history etc. like i get why it's a general tenor that a lot of people find that irritating. but for one i also think that bc of like the nature of this stupid planet we do owe it to others to pay attention to what's important to them and sit in the moment w them for a bit if we can and so i don't love the sentiment of someone else's need to share being like A Bother above all else. and then also, additionally to the inherent dignity in us all etc i am convinced that anyone who gets bored or zones out while their 80+ year old neighbour narrates his life story is in acute danger of missing out on some of the most buckwild Situations you've ever heard a person recount

You're Wrong About was one of my gateway podcasts and is still one of my comfort podcasts - about as comforting as it gets in the Dismantling Moral Panics genre, with its astounding empathy and grounded humanity. every now and then i'll dig up some older eps i've heard twice before because i specifically need michael hobbes to tell me about fucked up shit. HOWEVER i have not heard every episode - sometimes a topic just sounds much too heavy at the moment. a lot of the time because of a generational/cultural difference - many of these names and events don't ring a single bell for me.

and yet. pretty much every time i'm like, alright, let's hear what this is about then. i am not disappointed. in fact there will likely be a delightful morsel in there that enriches my life and soul and makes me feel like the world is full of beautiful people.

all this to say i finally listened to the tipper gore VS heavy metal episodes, which is about one of the moral panics around teenagers listening to Inappropriate Music, and some hearings about putting warning labels on albums. one of the musicians invited to the hearing was john denver (i know his music!!!! i listen to it on road trips with my mom!!!) because they thought a sweet mellow country musician would SURELY be against the icky terrible heavy metal music.

I’ve belatedly realized that there are a lot of Pathfinder sourcebooks online, so I’ve been doing more reading than writing lately, but I did manage to type up this bit of Isanna having too much fun at the end of Regill’s test:
