Notes: It's finally the end! What a crazy few weeks it's been. This was my first time participating in Kinktober, really any fandom challenge, and I think it went well! Thanks for sticking around -- you all are awesome. <3

You’re already half-asleep by the time Secondo returns, wet washcloth in hand. Limbs heavy and loose, your afterglow is still in full-swing, a pleasant buzz radiating out from your center. As the faint sheen of sweat on your skin begins to dry, your core temperature drops. The autumn chill seeps in through the ancient, uninsulated windows, and if not for the fire blazing at the other end of the room, you would without a doubt already be shivering.

“She is exhausted,” Secondo muses. Slowly, you open an eye, watching as he sits down on the bed next to you. While you were dozing he changed into a pair of boxers and removed his paints, though traces of it linger in the creases around his eyes and smudged across various parts of your anatomy. You yawn, smiling up at him.

“She is,” you say, face contorting with pleasure as you stretch. “And you’re insatiable.” Secondo chuckles, brushing a few loose hairs away from your eyes.

“With you, I cannot help myself.” The simple admission has you flushing, reveling in the echoes of your most recent climax.

“The great Papa Emeritus, brought low by a common Sister? These must be the end times-” Silencing you, Secondo presses his lips to yours. He smells of exertion and his smoky, spicy cologne. His mustache tickles you faintly and you hum, content, wrapping your arms around his neck. He could have anybody, you think. And yet…

He breaks the kiss, bringing the washcloth up to dab at the smears of paint around your mouth. “I am quite impressed, Sister.” You roll your eyes, cracking into a smirk. “The Samhain Mass is a challenging program. You handled it expertly.” 

“I handled you expertly,” you laugh, deflecting. “Thank you. It was an honor to-“ The washcloth runs across your lips, and you break out into giggles once more.

He kisses you again, bringing the cloth to your neck. “None of that. Not here.” The steaks of black and white wash away, but the splotches of pink and purple beneath them remain. You’ll wear his marks with pride, he knows just as well as you. Though his touch is gentle, his hand feels remarkably strong around your throat. You’re not ashamed of the way it has your arousal flaring up again.

It lasts for only a few more moments. Your chest is next. Secondo sees your nipples are already pebbled and quirks an eyebrow. Experimentally, he runs the cloth over one of them, and seems satisfied with the noise you make. He does it again and your thighs press together. “So soon, gattina?” You shrug.

“Can’t help myself either.” 

He doesn’t dally, finishing the work on your breasts and tossing the washcloth aside. His hand immediately finds your center, two fingers sliding into your slick cunt while his thumb skims over your clit. Though you’re exhausted, most of your energy sapped by the ritual, your sensitive nerves immediately alight. Moaning, your back arches off the bed. There is a focus, almost a reverence on his face as he works you. It makes your heart thump in your chest.

It’s comfortably quiet until you tumble over the edge, jerking and gasping quietly. Secondo presses one more chaste kiss to your lips, then resumes his work. Now oversensitive, you grimace as he cleans between your legs. There is an interested glint in his eyes, but seeing how yours droop, he leaves you be. When he’s finished he tosses the wet cloth to the side, then reaches over to the night stand and hands you your nasty, plastic water bottle that only sometimes smells like a fish tank. He watches you take a few sips then stands, sauntering back over to his dresser. From the top drawer he produces one of his ancient Iron Maiden shirts and a pair of your underwear. He’s been building a collection of your things, you note, trying to entice you to stay.

You’ve already decided you’re not going anywhere. Eventually, you’ll tell him, but right now it’s just too much fun watching him squirm.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? None of my fics have ended yet, but spoiler alert, it’s going to be I Can Wait for You at the Bottom.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Currently the good old f/m kind. I’m for sure a plot with porn girl with some good old breeding kink, praise kink, and light dom themes. But open to branching out to m/m or f/f and likely will for one of the spinoffs I have dreamed up ( Azris)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Reylo fic- Strange Addiction. I’m just not in the same place as when I started.

16. What are your writing strengths? Description and VIBEZ. Sometimes dialogue.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Pacing, not repeating myself, organization, thinking the plot all the way through.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I’m so uni-lingual American it’s not funny, and I have not done this before, really. Oh, wait, there’s a teensy amount of French in I Can Wait for You at the Bottom, courtesy of google translate.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Band of Brothers 20. Favorite fic you’ve written? I Can Wait for You at the Bottom. This was my return to writing as an adult, and I’m pretty proud of it, even if it is a bit of a chaotic mess

Six Sentence Sunday Monday 📚📜🖊️

I will remember to try that/ a similar thing if I keep having issues with this fic I'm writing (but I should at least try to slog through a first draft of my trouble chapters first - i just get so anxious that I will fuck up the funny-conflict and make it miserable or something when it's 'perfect' (but vague af) in my brain and has been that way for 4 years...).

And thank you everyone who has tagged me in the last months/year <3 @nausikaaa, @ileadacharmedlife, @monbons, @supercutedinosaurs, @brendughh, @rimeswithpurple, and anyone else if I missed you because my tumblr notifs won't go that far back 😭💗💞💖 I love you all! Thank you for including me in the community even when I haven't been writing for a while! It's been so inspiring seeing what you all have been up to and I've finally started writing again so yay!

My goal is to finish this fic I've been writing for four years (i've written what I'm estimating is 50k words freehand and am transcribing and editing them onto my laptop and I still need to write the other half ... hahahaha 😅. But I love it. ) called *The Long Summer*, within a month (the first draft at least, I'll come back and edit it at a later date. I want to post it on ao3 over a summer so hopefully I will be ready next summer! I need to write it while I still love it!), and then I want to write the first draft of an original story for a month or so/NaNoWriMo, and then I will pick one of my Carry On WIPs to work on (hopefully just in time to celebrate snowbaz's anniversary!)

(The Carry On WIPs in question: I'm thinking I will probably pick my soulmate au fic called Meet the Parents/When You're an Adult You'll Understand, or a trans au called Fraternity house, orrrrr this magical Agony-Aunt fic called Basilton Grimm-Pitch’s 10 Step Plan for Getting Over*(letting himself be in love with) Simon Snow ).

And I'm planning to interact more with wip-wednesdays and six-sentence-sundays from now on to keep me motivated and accountable! (hopefully this works, battling my motivation is like trying to wrestle a fish or something... i'm constantly at a loss with my brain - oh why won't I do things that I love and have time to do??)

....Oh and I want to make some Carry On animations.... (this is probably why I don't do things... Too ideas many and hard to pick. I tried to make a schedule last night that included everything I wanted to do in a day and it was 35 hours long... oops).

*The Long Summer* is a harry potter fic, and since I know all of you lovely people from Carry On, and I know lots of people avoid hp stuff for obvious reasons (JKR is wrong! Trans liberation now!), I will keep the rest of this under the cut <3

Ron Weasley wasn't an introspective soul. By the time something actually rolled around to happening he would probably have had twelve chances to predict it, if he was Hermione. He presumed something like this would never have happened to Hermione. Summers were probably a lot more quiet in the Muggle world, as an only child, with parents who weren’t - well Hermione was so smart she probably already knew, no there was really no reason to write to her. And Harry - well he didn't want to write to Harry about it either.  Honestly, it would probably be better if he never found out.

(I wrote these when I was 16 and they may need editing but that's for future me to worry about - rn I'm trying to push out a first draft as fast as possible...)

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

Hahahaha ok ok ok I'm scared to look but I will. I have 696,369 words on Ao3. That is...so many. And there are way more unpublished!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

So far, I have only written for Stranger Things, other than my one teaser chapter for a Buffy x Stranger Things crossover I really do hope to return to one day.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Always always always!! Even if people just write a heart or something, I write back. When I get a notification that someone commented, it literally makes my day and I re-read them often as a pick-me-up.

Honestly I don't write angsty endings!! I much prefer the happy ones. Closest I've got to angsty I guess is I'm counting the days to the rapture, depending on whose ending you focus on lol

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh GOSH. Almost all of them end on a sugary sweet note, but I'll link flowers and ink because that whole thing is just fluff fluff fluffy fluff

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not really? And I'm super grateful for that because on the few times I've gotten semi rude feedback, it has totally plagued my brain hahaha. I'm thankful that so far nothing too bad. (Please nobody change that!)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I mean, I have, but I don't have anything 18+ on this account very intentionally.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I would, but I haven't really gotten it to stick! One chapter of my Buffy crossover is out, and I have a TLOU crossover idea in my drafts, and there's of course my nearly completed WIP Eddie Munson vs the World, but that's more of an inspired by and less of a crossover. By the way, everyone read that one because it's the most ridiculous thing I've ever written.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I sure hope not! But it's possible, I suppose.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, but AHHH that would be very cool.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes!! I co-wrote a Carrie AU with another fandom friend where Eddie was Carrie and Steve/Chrissy care for him and save him after the prom fiasco. It's on my friend's account, because it's got violence and other explicit content, but it really launched me into taking more risks in my writing!

I also started collabing with my bestie @steviesbicrisis on another fic, but then both of us got super busy. Sorry about that!

Me and @withacapitalp also came up with a banger idea for a collab last night so...we shall see!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Oh gosh, all time???? Oh, man. Steddie makes me feral to write, obviously, but to shake things up I'll add Spuffy and Literati (Rory and Jess from Gilmore Girls) into the mix.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

This is so tough because I have thing this where, if I publish a chapter, I HAVE to finish it. But!! There are many things in my WIP folder I don't think I will ever get to, including my Buffy crossover and the one where Dustin and Erica has a time-traveling daughter.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Just like my friend who tagged me, i think characterization and dialogue are my strong suits. It's what I get positive feedback on the most. I also think I'm funny though! At least, in the fics that are more silly lol.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probablyyyy ummm descriptions? Yeah, that. I've gotten A LOT better about it, but I usually end up writing a lot of dialogue with minimal action because it's easier for me lol

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Okay, so I've done it, and it's TOUGH. It was for deaf Steve (tagged above, it's my most popular fic). ASL was especially challenging because it can't really be written down, so I had to get creative.

In one fic, any time a character spoke Russian, I just italicized it and made a note at the beginning that mean it wasn't in English canonically. I am not fluent in Russian, so I didn't want to risk relying on Google Translate! Plus, I'd have to write the English part anyway for readers.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I think. Technically. It was...ha ha, nope. I don't even wanna say it.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

This is so hard, they are all my babies and I put so much care into them! I'm gonna give a shoutout to Back to the Future (Hawkins Edition), as I always do. Now that it's been done over a year I can see the flaws in it and what I would have done different, but the amount of planning and thought and research I put in that thing deserves recognition lol. I think my current long project, we can be heroes (aka part 2 of deaf steve!), could take over as the biggest undertaking, though. But so far it's probably about equal lol.

Which redacted listener do you think would hide/ not mention that they speak different languages until some random or funny moment happens? because the fact that I speak 5 languages has put in a lot of funny situations 😂

Omg I wanna know some of these interactions. That kind of thing is literally some of my fav things ever. (I was gonna write a fully fledged fic in answer to this but I have way too many WIPs to do that. 😭 Maybe I'll do it in the future idk.)

Personally, I think all of the demon boys can speak any language used on Earth. Like imagine Gavin travelling to Spain for example. Considering how big he is on consent and for simplicity sake, he would need to be able to speak Spanish to communicate with those he wants to feed on.

Do all demons use this? No. I'm pretty sure Vega's words just get translated into the person's native language on the rare occasions he does communicate with people.

Outside of the d(a)emons? Oh here we go.

This could just be me pushing a French Baabe agenda, but they give off the vibe of knowing another language. And as soon as Angel finds out, they immediate want Baabe to hold onto that card for whenever they need to lay the smack into Christian.

Sweetheart is another one, but I think they needed to learn multiple languages for their job. (Same with Cutie. Probably Cutie even more so since people think in their native language, and if they need to investigate someone mind, language barriers would be a pain in the ass.) Sweetheart would purposefully mistranslate words to people, just for shits and giggles. Even better if it's Milo.

But idk if any of the wolf boyos would hide it since theyve all known each other since they were kids. I also don't think they would mess with each other's mates to that extent.

Lovely and Vincent though? Those two would totally fuck with each other or other clan members when it comes to languages. Sam would probably give them the silent treatment after the fifth time in one afternoon. It got to be too much.

I feel like Huxley thought Lasko was speaking a different language when they first met simply from how fast our local fan company was talking. Especially since Huxley's speed of talking is much slower.

Mentor (Ollie's listener) - nothing malicious. Simply a fact of their life. They don't really bring it up, but their ability of more than one language is there when needed.

Anton's listener - I don't think they would hide it since they give off such a heavy wholesome vibes. But I also headcanon that theyre European and English isn't their first language.

Honey - they only learned curse words in multiple languages (hahahaha me tho 😅)

Darlin - they got sick of falling for Lovely and Vincent's bullshit and decided to start learning the language (up in the air what it is) also since it was confirmed that they're a menace, they also started doing the same to Sam and the rest of the pack. (Sam can't escape it. Someone save southern yee haw vamp daddy)

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language? Not a fan tbh! Just use italics and dialogue tags, it's much easier on the reader, and you don't have to worry about messing up the translation. I use dialogue in another language very sparingly.

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

All three!! Titling is actually my favorite part. Usually, they come from song titles, lyrics, or references that I felt either really captured the theme of the characters or the plot. Or sometimes they are the inspiration!! Sometimes they are funny, catchy or sexy in ways I think will bring people in but mostly they are song titles/lyrics haha  Almost all of the angsty Harringrove fics I wrote (13+ i think now) are MGK songs haha 2020-2022 was my all MGK all the time period because he dropped two sick fucking albums in two years and helped me out of more spirals than I can count. 

19. What is the most-used tag on your ao3?

Oh shit idk can I check that? Let me go look… Alright im too high to do that and google wasn't helpful so i'm taking a guess haha probably Smut or angst. I don't write exclusively smut or angst but almost every single fic I have has hurt/comfort scenes or sex scenes in them. Probs cuz people cry and have sex in real life haha and i'm tired of the bullshit on tv 

22. Are there certain types of writing you won’t do? (style, pov, genre, tropes, etc)

I don't write anything with scat or piss play, just not my thing so i think it would be difficult to write it for me. I don't have usually any hard no’s when it comes to writing. The content I consume is a different answer though. Likely because I have the ability to just not think about the things I don't want to think/write about whereas if I don't check does the dog die.com before a movie I’ll be panicking the whole time I’m gonna be triggered by on screen SA which seems to be a recurring theme in EVERY scary/thriller these days (fuck YOU hollywood)

40. If someone were to make fanart of your work, what fic or scene would you hope to see?

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Dude any!!!! But i'm also a horny slut so really any of the Hankconvin, steddiegrove, harringrove, parksborn sex scenes are good with me!!

I still have the fan art  someone made me for a fic I wrote back in 2013 as my phone background :3 I have since lost touch with them on tumblr but I think about them everyday

41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

I’m a huge re-reader/reconsumer. I will watch the same show 100 times and never get tired of it. Same with the fics I read. I’m a SUCKER for that good good content

Hahahahha yes and no. If its a short fic, I'll usually just reread it before i start adding new content since I jump around between fics CONSTANTLY. If it's a long fic, like the fucking Eden club yes, I have notes because I just don't have the time to go back and reread. My docs are a total mess hahahaha I love you, thank you for theses <3 I AM HAVING A GREAT GAY DAY AND I FUCKING HOPE YOU ARE TOO!

One was my brother's girlfriend, who invited me to see Jack and Jill with them (I didn't know it was a date), and when she was curled up against my brother, I felt something bump my ankle. Turns out it was her foot. I looked up, thinking maybe she thought it was his. Nope, she knew and was giving me a look like hey, I like you too. I was trying so hard to not gag or scream in the theater as I nearly jumped out of my seat, and my brother looked mortified. They didn't last much longer after that, and he soon realized he liked guys anyway.

The other was a guy friend who once asked me out, and I quickly said I wasn't interested in dating at the moment and sped out of the parking lot of my work, gravel flying. The funny thing is a few years later, he and my brother started dating and have been since.

We are three years and a day apart and apparently attract the same people literally, which is now always a funny thing to laugh at. We still laugh about how my brother is a younger bearded gay male version of me. But at the time of both events, freaking good lord.

Oh goodness, I didn't realize until I looked at my AO3 dash how long this year was. lol meaning how many of the things I wrote were actually in THIS year! How does time work like that?? Weird.

6: Favorite title you used? I guess Red Witch of Russia, though it's not even that creative. It's just all of my other titles are worse. Titles are so darn hard.

15: What WIP are you taking into next year with you? HAhahaha. So funny, using a singular there like that. :P Obv Touch of Magic is not done yet. Though it should be. I am ashamed. BUT also I have Future Tense going as well as the as-yet unnamed soulmates story (see above for my struggle with naming.) Those two are going to be a chunky beasts and prob take months yet. There are others hiding in my file list too. I'm a compulsive story starter but not much of a story finisher.

29: Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Oh man. I literally don't know. There were a lot I was pretty proud of, tbh. Like in Yuuri's birthday story, i didn't even realize i used dog themed language several times without doing it on purpose AT ALL? But “Luckily our respective blackmail collections guarantee mutually assured destruction,” Yuuri replied" for some reason pops into my head and I find myself quoting it a lot, which is hilarious to me. lol The Olympics one had some buts that still make me laugh. Don't make me pick a favorite among my children. :P

Oooooh, tough one. I think a tie between plot and characters. A plot can be great, but if the characters suck I'm going to nope out, and vice versa. Oh wait, that's for reading and this is meant to be from the writer POV isn't it? 😅🤦‍♀️ Some of those things can have different levels of importance depending on the piece, but I would say the technical stuff is always super important. My grammar isn't perfect, but I do make an effort. And if I find mistakes after posting, I will correct them.

🤲what do YOU get out of writing?

With fanfiction, it's usually scratching an itch. That's how I ended up writing Locklyle. 😅 I really wanted more of their story—what does their future look like—that canon doesn't give me. So I'm making one up haha. It's also a creative outlet and a great way to hone my writing skills. I have started probably 5 original projects but haven't been disciplined enough to finish any of them. Maybe one day!

Hahahaha yes, I think I can guess which one you want to know more about! I did share a snippet of it here in case you missed it. I got the idea for this Locklyle fic about halfway through The Empty Grave and started writing. Then the ending made me question the whole timeline of my fic, but I decided it's fine because this is ✨fanfiction!✨ Basically it's about them getting older and losing their talents, how that changes their investigations, and what it means for their future. It fits several of the prompts for Locklyle week (stumbled into this fandom just in time!) so I am busting my ass to get it done by Sunday! It's a little bit firsts, a little bit denial, a little bit love languages, and some domesticity thrown in too. Keep reading below the cut for a snippet! I will warn you that it's not been edited yet.

We tried to go back to sleeping apart—honest, we did—but slowly, we came to an unspoken arrangement. I'd wake up from another dream of the Other Side and show up at his bedroom door, clutching my pillow tight against my belly, awkwardly waiting for him to say something. He never did, just pulled the covers back and made room for me. At some point in the intervening months, it became a nightly habit for me to sleep in Lockwood’s room. And I don’t mean in the armchair, though he certainly tried. But now it seemed natural to slip into bed next to him, the warmth of our bodies heating the blankets, shutting out the cold of haunted places that threatened to sink into our bones. My pillow stayed in place next to his.

Everything was above board. We might as well have kept a rapier between us. Not that I wished otherwise. I only mean to say there wasn’t any funny business, and that’s that. Sure, sometimes our hands found each other in the dark, but even school children hold hands. I might have woken once or twice with my palm clasped in Lockwood’s, held to his chest as we lay flat on our backs. People can't control what they do in their sleep. It didn't mean anything. And there was the time I woke up from a dream of Dark London with his long limbs wrapped around me. You know when you wake up suddenly with the feeling you’re falling from a great height?

“It’s all right, Luce,” his low voice said in my ear. “I’ve got you. You were shivering.”

I settled back into his warmth and drifted off.

Shaking off the memory, I spit into the sink and rinsed out my mouth. My point is, we never talked about it. Never acknowledged aloud that something had changed between us. We simply got in bed, said our good nights, and went to sleep. But now I had broken that silence, and he… He seemed pleased at the thought of going to bed together. When he said it like that, come to bed with me, it was more than just our usual banter.

Finished with my bedtime routine, I descended the stairs to Lockwood’s room. Suddenly self-conscious in my tatty t-shirt and worn shorts, I hesitated on the threshold. 

Lockwood looked up from his glossy society magazine and flashed his signature megawatt smile. “That’s rule number one broken, Luce.”

“This isn’t a haunted house,” I grumbled. “Not anymore, anyway.”

He had new bedsheets. Blue. I knew they were for me. The covers were folded back on my side of the bed, just waiting for me to slip in.

“Thought you might’ve changed your mind.”

I flapped my arms and stepped into the room. “Not a chance.” Avoiding his eye, I sat on the edge of the bed and swept my legs up, half turned away from him as I shoved them under the coverlet. I made a show of fluffing my pillow.

“You alright, Luce?” 

“Of course,” I said brightly. I heard the rustle of paper—Lockwood setting the magazine aside—and then the lamp clicked off. “You can keep reading if you like. The light doesn’t bother me.”

The mattress shifted beneath me. I was almost rolled toward him. “It’s okay. I can sleep now that you’re here. Good night, Lucy.”

“Good night, Lockwood.”

We lay in the dark without speaking for some time before either of us found our rest.

Dave's hair used to be this really mousy brown and it just wouldn't do! No! He refuses! It was boring and common and absolutly clashed with his vibe so it needed to be adressed immediately. He bleached his hair the first time when he was 14 and it turned out horrible but he was still happy with his shitty dyejob because at least it was unique!

Do they get along? Ohhh boy, honey they get along like a house on fire! Dave and Bel often team up for pranks and mischief (Levi is one of their regular victims lol). Surprisingly Chief doesn't actually mind this relationship mostly because Dave tends to curb Bel's more ... homicidal tendencies. Dave prefers leaving his victims alive (though there's no guarentee for their sanity) mostly because killing them would limit his options for pranks. So when Dave and Bel plan mischief Dave puts his foot down about murder.

The world is undoubtedly cruel. Criminally unjust. Life is filled with hurdles and hardships, with unimaginable challenges and dreadful chores.

Dan has been kicked out of his own office by an overly worried Lussuria.

(Honestly, the audacity of his doctor, the inhumanity. He is seriously considering a lawsuit.)

Apparently working for ten months straight without a break is “unhealthy” and “terrible for the skin, just look at those wrinkles Dani-boy”. Which is ridiculous in his humble opinion, he doesn’t have wrinkles. His skin simply has more character, more definition, that’s all. No wrinkles here, just a well-developed background story edged into his outer shell.

Nevertheless, Dan is left with no other choice than take the day off since he doesn’t want to deal with Lussuria drugging his tea again. One time was more than enough.

Well, at least he can use this opportunity to finally get some shopping done. His sister Is going to skin him alive if he shows up empty handed to her birthday again. Finding the perfect jewellery set to make up for his blunder took him some time but now he can at least cross that off his list.

He is slandering down the empty streets, enjoying the sunshine on his face, when his peaceful musings are interrupted by a body landing right in his path.

Dan must have committed war crimes in his past life, it’s the only explanation. His former self probably kicked puppies for fun and slaughtered babies in their sleep because he can’t even take a stroll in the city without someone throwing bodies at his feet.

Puzzled and slightly annoyed Dan takes a closer look at the young man sprawled in front of him.

The first thing that catches his eye is the absolutely garish shade of neon green decorating the top of his head. Whoever did that dye job needs to be fired. His hair isn't the only thing that needed fixing though. He’s covered in bruises and dirt, blood is dripping from his nose and - Dan squints - is that a tooth on the pavement? Yes, it is. … Gross. Hopefully the guy knows a good a dentist.

The sound of footsteps alerts him to the arrival of even more people. Dan inspects the newcomers in irritation. There are three of them, all clad in ill-fitted suits, hair slicked back and fake gold rings on their fingers, making them look like stereotypical comic mafia goons brought to life. It would have been funny and something to laugh over with Squalo over coffee if said goons hadn’t interrupted his quiet afternoon with their petty disputes.

What a drag.

“You have five seconds.”

“Hah?” Goon #1 sneers at him, somehow turning even uglier in the process. “What do ya want, shrimp? Don’t ya see we’re a little busy here.”

Only sheer willpower prevents Dan from inspecting his nails in disinterest. Instead, he crooks an eyebrow, giving the idiotic trio his best deadpan fish stare.

“Three seconds.”

Goon #2 spots the Varia emblem on his hoodie and the Cloud clocks the moment he recognises what it stands for. He shakily points at Dan’s chest. “U-uhm… boss?”

“What?” Goon #1 snaps, but his gaze follows his friend’s finger and all colour leaves his face. “V-v-varia?”

Dan puts his hands in his hoodie pocket and smiles. “You rang?”

The way they freeze like a deer in the headlights. How they start quaking in their knock off designer shoes when realisations dawns upon them. The fear in their eyes.

Ah… making grown men piss their pants with a single look never gets old.

“By the way,” Dan drops his smile, his voice turning ice cold. “Your time is up. Better start running, boys.”

One would think that the Vendice are on their heels with how fast they scrammed.

Now, with that sorted.

Dan looks back the stranger who’s still lazing on the street. “You okay?”

“U-uhm yes…” he stutters with wide eyes that are filled with something uncomfortably close to awe. “Thank you so much.”

Feeling slightly awkward now, Dan avoids his shining gaze. “Don't mention it.”

“But-”

“Seriously don’t,” Dan interrupts him, combing a hand through his hair. He wishes this interaction was over already. He’s no good with shows of gratitude. “You should let a doctor check you over.” That should be enough polite concern, right? “I will be on my way then.”

Dan tries to speedwalk away to avoid further socialising but is hindered by a surprisingly strong grip on his hoodie.

Only his ingrained manners (thanks Mom) prevent him from breaking a hand and escaping anyways, which is probably for the best, the poor guy has enough injuries, no need to add broken bones to the list.

Dan turns around and sighs. “What is it?”

The young man gives him a solid try at puppy eyes. “What’s your name? I’m Dave by the way! You can’t just rescue me like a knight in shining armour and then disappear off into the sunset. That’s not fair at all.” He adds a pout to his pleading expression, which – in Dan’s humble opinion – just makes him look even more pathetic.

“Have you suffered head trauma recently?”

Dave cocks his head, confused. “I mean, one of them kicked my face for a bit but that was nothing, I’m good! They mostly focused on my upper body and limbs.” He lets go of Dan’s hoodie and lifts his shirt up to point at his battered torso in demonstration. “See?”

“Then, why are you spouting nonsense?” Dan takes a step back after he is freed from Dave’s clutches. “Run along and try to avoid getting beat up by shady men in the future.”

The puppy eyes start to fill with fake tears. “But they keep on finding me.”

Dan is suddenly overcome with a desperate need for coffee.

“And that’s my problem, how exactly?”

The responding grin sends shivers down his spine. It reminds him of Bel’s smug smile after he caught another one of his employees in his wire traps.

“Well, all your hard work would go to waste if they came back, wouldn’t it? So, how about you help a buddy out?” Dave winks and it would have been charming if his face wasn’t covered in dried blood. “You can start with your name and we will go from there.”

Dan barely lifted a finger, is this guy on crack? In fact… Is he trying to con him? This feels like a con.

Why did I even bother leaving my room today?

“Look, Dave,” he begins trying to salvage the situation, “if I tell you that Varia Housekeeping is always looking for new members, will you go away and let me enjoy the rest of my day off in peace?”

The other man’s jaw drops like Dan got on his knees and proposed instead of throwing in a job offer as distraction tactic.

Dan takes his surprise as an opportunity to exit the premises once again. This time he isn’t stopped physically but a broken “W-wait” still gives him pause and he reluctantly glimpses back. Dave has dropped his cocky façade leaving behind only shattered pieces and a tiny fragment of hope.

“Please. Tell me your name?”

His voice sounds fragile compared his confident tone before.

Spirit Tracks AU

So, THIS ONE I actually posted a bunch of one WIP Wednesday. When I was having fun with it, I realized I needed to stop so I could work on other fics I am actually publishing! But the basic premise is that it's an aged-up Spirit Tracks AU where Link is the only one who can see Zelda, after she's killed in the first chapter sorry, not sorry! But it's not an angsty story, so don't worry about that, if you catch my drift lol! So it's similar to the game in that they're teamed up on a train, but with a different angle!

Compete Against the Stars by @daggerandrose / amomentoflove (31k, M, Harry/Louis) - omg okay so this one is like ANGSTY AF and i FUCKING LOVE IT because it's one of those fics that you HOPE you have figured out, and you probably do, but also there's SO many twists and turns to it all that you just have NO idea how it's all gonna work out and omg are they gonna just ruin it all for themselves by being stupid and ahhhhh the tension of just FIGURING OUT HOW THEY GET IT ALL TO WORK OUT!!! and of course it does. hahaha but HOW??? this is a RIDE and in my mind feels like a longer fic than 31k in the best of ways, they did an amazing job of packing a LOT of world building and storytelling into those 31k.

the straight for your heart (wolfpack au) series by foreverkneeld and foundfamilyvevo (96k, T/G, Multiple or No pairings including Niall/Louis, Zayn/Liam, OT5, and Shawn/Niall) - This series is the ultimate hurt/comfort and healing pack fic series omg. it was recommended to me when i was in a super hard time and my anxiety was so bad i couldn't focus on anything. These short fics that all focused so much on healing and found family were exactly what i needed. so so soft, so lovely. I still haven't read them all because i'm saving them for when i need them. they're glorious.

when the air ran out and we both started running wild by darlingjustdont (48k, M, Nick/Louis) - OMG OKAY LISTEN THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVS. a tomlinshaw werewolf pack fic?! ahhhhhhhhh i was SO happy when i discovered this one. louis is alpha of the pack and things are... shaky, shall we say. there's a lot going on that he's worried about and then he meets nick and it's kind of enemies to lovers? okay, more than kind of. but omg the FEELS. SO. MANY. FEELS. but also danger and a;lsdgkhas;ldfkja just please read this and rave with me because i don't have many i can talk about this one with and i LOVE IT.

You Smell Like by mystic_believexx (185k, M, Harry/Louis) - i had no idea this fic was so long hahahaha wow ANYWAY louis is human, but he's always been close with harry and therefore basically a part of his pack. but then one day harry leaves and louis kind of accidentally becomes the pack alpha. even though he's human. but there's SO much more to it. there's just sooooo much with the friendship and the pack bond as well as the danger and trying to figure out what the hell is going on... it's just a LOT and one of those epic fics that i still think about even though i read it...a year and a half ago i guess. but it's amazing and i highly recommend it if the word count doesn't scare you away haha

Canyon Moon by @eeveelou / delsicle (41k, E, Harry/Louis) - this is a lion king au, made a/b/o werewolves! i really enjoyed this one a lot, actually, because i could absolutely see the parallels, but also the way it was adapted made it so it wasn't always obvious how it would all play out. it was a really interesting and cool world building as well.

The Truth I Can't Explain (Smoke and Mirrors) by @fallinglikethis / FallingLikeThis (9k, M, Harry/Louis) - ohhhhh this one is SO cool cause it's by tabby so she made it incredibly fun and fascinating to try to figure out. there's magic and mages and werewolves and feuds and they're basically on the eve of battle and holy cow it's just SO cool.

One Touch Is Never Enough by @kingsofeverything / kingsofeverything (4k, E, Harry/Louis) - once again lauren delivers and there's just so much i keep giggling about with this because it is SO fun. there's a lot that louis is dealing with in this fic hahaha and the way she writes it all is so funny. the poor man just wants a fucking massage! lololol it's lighthearted, humorous, and basically filled with fluff, crack, and smut. hahaha

Knot Safe For Work by @jaerie / jaerie (6k, E, Harry/Louis) - a;sldkgha;lfdkjas listen i forgot about this fic until i found it in my bookmarks for werewolves because jenna writes so many fucking amazing fics that when i think of werewolves, i think of at least two others first, but i could NOT do this rec without this fic because now that i remember it exists i am going to have to go and read it again! hahaha harry's a werewolf, louis is a wizard, there's knotting dildos and table sex and... just read it. lolol

Saving's What I Need by @jaerie / jaerie (17k, M, Harry/Louis) - writer louis is out for a drive one day and he hits a dog. THIS POOR DOG! he takes it to the vet and tries his best to take care of it... but things are not as they seem. because yeah, harry is defo not a dog. lollllll this fic was hilarious and sweet and omg there's just so much to love about it. there were so many more emotions in it than i expected. loooove!

Out of the Wild by @jaerie / jaerie (22k, E, Harry/Louis) - this fic has such fun world building, which is actually a huge strength of jenna's fics and you'll hear me rave about it with all 50 of her fics that will end up on this rec list (not really 50, but ya know lol). louis is a fairly wild and undomesticated wolf and harry's from the city and they end up as roommates during the x factor process. oh my word this fic is so fun because of all the challenges they're going through PLUS the wolf side of things and just... the way they work together and navigate it all as well as falling for each other is pure gold.

Out With The Old, In With The New by, you guessed it, @jaerie / jaerie (7k, E, Harry/Louis) - listen, just. this one is smutty as hell and it's gonna take you some places that some people will be uncomfortable with, which is totally valid and fair. please be sure to read the tags and make your decision on whether or not to read accordingly, but also know that its written in a super interesting way that is also pretty amazing if you do decide to give it a shot. lol

Instincts by @marastarfar / StarFar ( 100k so far - it's a WIP!, T, Harry/Louis) - omg listen. i LOVE mara's fics so much and when this first posted it was a one shot little thing that was FASCINATING. i loved it! and then i was happily surprised when i learned more was added to it. and then it was turned into a wip and omg i am so far behind now but i trust mara with my life because i love everything i've read by them and what i've read of this so far is INCREDIBLE so just. yeah. lollll

There's a Power in What You Do by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry (7k, T, Harry/Louis) - i just read my comment i left on this one and it was just mainly me begging for time stamps because there wasn't any way for her to improve upon the perfection of this fic (nesting! softness! even a silly comment in her endnotes to perfectly cap it all!), but i still wanted to remain in the story just a bit longer and learn more about them. hahaha anyway, those time stamps aren't happening, but this fic is still complete perfection.

amaryllis by @hattalove / hattalove (147k, E, Harry/Louis) - for a long time this was thought of as THE werewolf fic. if anyone was talking about a werewolf fic, it was probably this one. is that still the case? probably. i'm not sure. ANYWAY. there's a REASON it was THE werewolf fic and that's because this is amazing. it sucks you in and you feel like you're truly a part of the action. it's filled with the vibe of found family and wanting to figure out what happened while also adjusting to your new life and just... so many feelings. so much angst. SO fantastically epic.

2023 Writing Goals : MAY UPDATE

Post something - whether it’s a drabble, a one shot, or part of an ongoing story - at least once a week 8/52 (at this point I am hoping to hit at least 70% here. i’m working on getting ahead so that i’m “stocked up” on finished pieces, but if i want to hit 70% i’m going to need to REALLY buckle down.) 

Try something new - a trope, genre, a method of storytelling, just… something unlike anything I’ve written before. Get out of the comfort zone. 0/1 (I actually now have two ideas for this goal and it’s just going to be a matter of which materializes first. One is for Marcus Pike and the other is for The Thief - and i’ve started writing the first & second parts of The Thief story. It’s going to be FUN)

Write a complete multi-part story before I post any of it. 0/1 (WOAH out of nowhere, kiss me & smile for me is looking like the likely winner of this race.)

Close the book on three ongoing wips. 0/3 (how do we feel about ponr: petrichor being one of these, Recall being another, and... I’m having funny thoughts about #3. might be a real wild card)

Clean up my one-shot wip folder. 2/6 (next one should be posted later this week, featuring Dieter Bravo. it was the only one shot from last year’s June drabbles that I didn’t get to. now that its June again it seems appropriate that it will be the first thing i post this month. after that... it might get a little chilly in the wips.) 

Hahahaha ha... ha... *pulls at collar and gulps* well shit. This is not looking great. But I have always worked well under “pressure”. (I don’t actually feel pressure. I still find great joy in writing and sharing my work. I just have a lot of ideas and ambition and I want to see those two things work together.) I’m manifesting Oberyn, Dieter, Joel & possibly Din this month. Also? I’m getting close to a pretty flipping cool follower milestone and I have a fun idea for a request event, so I’m trying HARD to finish some things so that I feel good about starting a bunch of new ones. Anywho, thanks for sticking with me even in the slow times, friends! I promise things will pick up in JUNE!

This post is mostly here for me, as a way to keep myself motivated and accountable and on track. I’ll be updating it monthly to note any progress or to add new goals - but you’re welcome to follow along if you want to! And I would love to know about any goals you’re setting for yourselves! Not going to lie, I am not thrilled that this number is still so low)

Close the book on three ongoing wips. Some of them have been left open for such a long time that sometimes it makes it hard to focus on any of them for long enough SO…0/3 (made *some* progress with Survivor Blues, but it’s still a long haul to the end)

Clean up my one shot WiP folder - these are pieces that I started for events or prompts but ended up setting aside. 1/6 (at least two of these will be coming off the board in March, so that’s a positive!)

I’m not gonna sugarcoat it because that’s not how I roll: February was a complete disappointment. I know I’ve been in a slump, and I know that it’s a short month, but sitting down to write this update and seeing that I only posted one new piece this month was very deflating. I’m hoping that March will be a turning point for my productivity.
