Hi, Anne!

In the evening today Yuki asked me to go to dinner with her and a family from Philippines. We went to a barbecue restaurant and it was nice. Then we went to karaoke. In my room there were Yuki and a Philippino girl. She is 16. Her voice was amazing!! She so should just go to the stage (that is, become a singer). I didn't do well, obviously. There were not many songs I could sing and with my voice! Not fair. Ended up singing Like a Prayer somewhat well.

I went back to reading The Diary of a Young Girl at night. It is interesting reading about your romance! I keep thinking, would I want to do things like this or not? Of course, never with the Japanese. But maybe I wouldn't mind kissing once in a lifetime! It is very sad that you will be murdered soon! You would have definitely become a famous writer and would have married Peter! The Germans are terrible! Dad said they killed a lot of Russians also. Wonder if there was anyone else who kept a journal through this? Journalling is great. I wish everyone would! And I hope mum would buy me your book in Russian! This Anne Frank book was in English, as mentioned before, and my English really wasn't that great yet. I probably understood about half of it but it was so interesting I persisted through. I went to sleep thinking about the books I am going to write.

Dear Ellie

I could not concentrate on study today, not at school nor at home. I felt sleepy and just had other things on my mind. Anne Frank for example! I haven't got over it yet. This book has impressed me so much! I kept thinking about it. I worry I might fall in love. Of course I don't fall in love and there is no one I like but there is someone I should watch out for. What would happen if I do fall for someone? I guess if I think about it nothing would happen. I just don't think I have ever been moved this much by the depiction of a romance. I think it is because when Anne kept her journal she did not know it would be published and she was completely honest. Really, she is so amazing in writing! And she was just about my age! When I finished the book after school today I was so sad! Towards the end of the book she wrote with such hope, with such confidence about the future! And she ended up dying just about 3 months before the end of the war. I don't like Germans now. I was also disappointed that there was so ending. I was expecting that she would get to kiss Peter before the end for the last time. Maybe something like that did happen but I wish there was a written record of it. There is something I thought about. Why do people close their eyes when they kiss? Don't think I could find an answer.  I think I am similar to Anne in some way and we could have been friends.

Last night we called mum in Russia. She says that her eye hurts. I was not even thinking about it. I thought she didn't have pain anymore! I hope she feels better soon.

On the way from school Yuki said that there is a boy that stares at her like he is angry with her. She wants to be liked. And she was surprised that I don't get upset when I get bullied sometimes. I guess that really is one of my positive qualities. If you think about it, it is not really that important to be loved, especially by boys.

Dad took me out for lunch and to a video cassette rental shop. I chose two CDs and four videos. One of the videos is a movie called Melody and then another one - The Diary of Anne Frank! That got me so excited! I really want to describe my feelings but cannot describe them in words. I will first write about the movie itself.

The movie was really good. It was shot in 1959. I think Anne's dad (who survived the holocaust) assisted in the production. But I had some disappointments. In some parts the story had been changed. Especially I was upset about the bits with Peter. A lot was different. Like the part of them falling in love. It wasn't even very romantic, unlike the book! Even the part about the kiss! It was only barely covered. Although I thought that was almost the central theme! I felt very disappointed that it was not based on "my" book. Still, the overall impression I got was good, just like the book. I am finally calming down now but I felt so intense right after it! Hard to describe that state. Sad but at the same time good. How do you say 感動 in Russian? I want to write about this in English. But again, why on earth did not they follow the book? It would have been more interesting. Ah it's still good though. Why are there so few books and movies as amazing? Of course, perhaps I do not know much but I have at least heard a lot about adventure films but movies like this, that make you experience such amazing feelings - there are none. In the movie they say that their hiding place is now open as a museum and you can go in. I so want to go! It is hard to believe this is for real. Anne has become something incredible for me, almost magical. Such a pity that she died! And I thought just now that it would have been great if the other dwellers of the "Secret Annexe" had kept diaries too, especially Peter! Would have been so cool to compare them!

I am getting more certain again that keeping a journal is important. Not just for me, for all people on the planet! Now, in the future and... in the past. I am sure that a lot of people had lives like Anne's. Maybe even more interesting. But they haven't kept a diary. Sometimes people want to leave their name in history forever and don't know what to do for it. And sometimes all that is enough is a diary that you keep for 2 years. For example, people should remember and be impressed with Anne for at least another century! Wish I could encourage people to keep a journal. Not sure how. Ah I am still in this mood. I feel sad but inspired and awestruck at the same time. Wish there were more movies like this. It's a pity that I know this wouldn't last. Guess I will start with Yuki. I mean tell her how amazing journalling is.

The flu. Yes, really. Fewer pupils at school. Quiet times. I’m actually surprisingly healthy. I’d guess my probiotics must play a role here… Who knows.

More sourdough experiments. Writing about it (DELICACY - a haiku. Oven-warm sourdough / salted butter, alpine cheese / and a strawberry).

Finding a really interesting list of SanFran hippie era book recommendations at the end of Robin Sloan’s Ajax Penumbra: 1969. In the mood to read Maya Angelou, Tom Wolfe, Jack Kerouac, Richard Brautigan.

Even more beautiful books: I really enjoyed Die weiße Stadt by Karolina Ramqvist, a feminist author from Sweden, and the graphic novel version of To Kill a Mockingbird. But two books that literally (well, figuratively obviously) blew my mind were Circe by Madeline Miller (mythology, loneliness, animals and plants, magic and monsters, some desperate kind of feminism, independence and strength) and Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo (magical realms, university setting, psychological depth, unexpected twists and turns). I haven’t read anything comparable in a very long time and I desperately hope that there’s more to come from these authors.

A beach collecting all the world’s single socks in The Magicians. Oh and of course seeing them break the moon. What a sight. The show is super confusing, obnoxious and absolutely fabulous at the same time. Best example: the Freaky Friday szene in which Margo and Eliot switch bodies. I love how the actors took on each other’s speech patterns and behaviour.

A new addition to my colour vocabular: celadon (a greyish green; there is a type of ceramics you’ll only see in this colour which is not surprising since the shade provides such an interesting contrast to the the earthy, rusty orange of burnt clay.)

Manu telling me that he had rarely seen people with more joy in their eyes than me (“Ich habe schon Freude in deinen Augen gesehen! So ein Leuchten kann man nicht simulieren.”) after complaining about being bored and lifeless. / Making curry with or, well, for him the other night. Drinking Liqueur 43 with cinnamon and milk. Playing the Jackbox party games for which you can use your phone as a controller.

Finding myself in a well-known sitation from the past. Lying in Frank’s bed in the early morning hours, not that tired yet, when he starts talking about his life and his depression. In English, obviously, because that’s our emotional filter. Relating, since I feel quite similar. Coming up with a suggestion for a reciprocal support system. Let’s see what we can do for each other.

Meeting Eve at Pub Quiz. She identifies as female, loves swing dance, used to be an animator and I love her style. Also, I realised that really like Betty. And Dennis wasn’t mean to me for once. I love my nerd friends <3 And I learned that Starbucks was named after the first mate in Moby Dick! Also, coincidentally they asked a question about the city where To Kill a Mockingbird takes place (Maycombe, Alabama) after I had read it the week before.

Inviting Lorena to the Botanical Gardens. I always feel very happy and very much myself when I’m there. I sometimes wish I was a gardener. Lorena was late so I walked along the Spring Path outside and it might have been the first time I’ve seen a brussels sprouts plant. Inside I learned lots of Spanish words and marveled at the incredible butterflies. The huge yellow one right behind the entrance was my favourite. Its delicate feelers were fascinating.

Washing my hands at the Keg’s bathroom. Looking into the mirror. Suddenly thinking of the perfect karaoke song… Rescue Me by Bell Book and Candle! I kept singing it for days on repeat. My neighbour must hate me (nothing new here) especially since my voice is too low for the chorus.

That dream. About a book shop modeled after my picture of Penumbra’s 24-hour bookstore. There was an old man in a very narrow but high-ceilinged room full of books. There was no light source except for moonlight or some street lights. There were loads of stairs, very steep, leading to the back of the house. Upstairs the man would set out cat food and on the rooftop there was an old sailing boat. One day the man decided to open the door to the roof and let visitors see the ship, much like a museum; perhaps to attract customers. However, in the next night a cat-shaped ghost appeared who reminded me quite a lot of Kot Behemoth character in Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita. The ghost was not amused about the old man’s decision and took away his key, a big golden one adorned with a red ribbon.

I came up with: visiting grandma / eating Cini-Minis / falling asleep with my face buried in a cat / beating my neighbour Anna at Memory / drawing while listening to a Bibi Blocksberg cassette.

Alex said he’d have been outside all day, building a snow igloo. Not noticing his mum telling him to come to dinner. If the weather had been bad he would have played with his dinosaur collection. His inner 7-year-old was a hopeless dreamer who got agitated whenever his parents had a fight. Who came home late from school every day because he forgot about time when he was talking to his friend next to a hedge with thorns that looked like tiny airplanes.

1. Have they ever brought home a stray animal? If so, how did that go?

Louie - She’s brought home Alex if that counts?

Harper - Harper isn’t really an animal person so I don’t think she’d bring one home but she’d defo give up her sandwich if she saw a stray dog on the street

Lola - Prefic Lola would never but the Lola who has broken away from her parents and responsibilities is learning all about this kind of stuff ends up adopting a stray cat (who lbr actually is the one who adopts her)

Noelle - Noe would bring every single stray home if she could - including Fangs and Sweet Pea! Her and her mum could never afford to get their own animals so she’d bring any that she saw back home...to the point where when she was younger her mum had to explain it was normal for cats to be out even if they had owners. Dogs are defo her weakness although she was known to even bring injured birds, mice etc home

Stella - If there was any possibility Noe and Stella could meet they’d start an animal sanctuary together because she’s as bad!

Louie - Louie and Lexie know that the other still suffers from nightmares. Obviously Mark and Alex know they can have trouble sleeping but they don’t know the contents of the dreams whereas the girls are constantly telling one another to get them off their chest

Harper - Harper doesn't really have a best friend tbh! If her and Mal were canon Mal would be the one who’d know about her fears of her past...she’d feel too bad dumping that on Bucky when he’s been through enough himself

Lola - Lola isn’t a sharer. She has had friends who were only her friend because she had money so there’s nothing someone knows about her no one else does

Noelle - Noe and Fangs know pretty much everything about each other! 

Stella - Her and Michael know how overwhelmed the other is with their new life in the big city. No matter what fronts they put up they still have that terrified streak.

3. How does your OC greet their best friend in public?

Louie - Hugs, hugs and more hugs!

Harper - I think Harper would get to the stage with Mal where she’d greet her with a hug, every one else gets a smile and a wave, Steve gets a blush

Lola - Her and Toni greet one another with fist bumps

Noelle - Sickly sweet nicknames most people hate (Fangs gets ‘my love’ a lot for example)

Stella - She beams every time she sees Michael, just her entire face lights up

Lola - Idk if this is bc of her fc but Lola loves Andante Andante by Abba, she loves to get up onto the Karaoke to sing it

Noelle - She hates to admit it but in a total cliche way Noelle adores Mr Brightside, jumping up and down and singing at the top of her voice

Stella - I don’t really know any 1920s tracks tbh but if she were around nowadays Stella would love Shoutout to my Ex by Little Mix, she’d be dancing around her room and jumping on her bed

Louie - For helping when she wasn’t supposed to, she’s too caring and can never leave someone behind

Louie - Louie would have Lexie there and they’d try their best but she’d end up in the hairdressers the next day

Harper - She’d be good at it, having had to disguise her appearance more than a few times

Lola - She wouldn’t have a clue!! Toni would end up stepping in and fixing it for her

Noelle - Even though she would never have done it before Noelle would be surprisingly good, there’s a gifset of Zendaya with red hair and it looks amazing so I think that’s where she’d go. She’d be the one to do it just before a big event no matter how many people told her that was a bad idea

Stella - I don’t think she’d even try, she’d be too scared that it would be ruined!

Louie - If we’re taking TVD vamps she’d use her blood to heal people

Harper - Her humanity would be switched off immediately and Bucky would have to bring her back

Lola - She’d freak out that she looked ugly with fangs

Noelle - She would be an amazing vampire she’d just revel in the power

Stella - She’d scare off all the Shelby’s enemies

Louie - She’d be more likely to dress up as Mark and be extra annoying and say she was him

Harper - Harper would go full on Captain America and she’s not even sure if he’s her friend let alone her best friend

Lola - Her and Toni would dress up as each other, raiding each other’s clothes and just doing over the top impressions

Noelle - She’d stick a pair of vampire fangs in her mouth and be like “Guess who? Eh? Ehhhh?”

Stella - She’d just be a dick to everyone and say she was Michael

Louie - She doesn’t like pineapple on pizza?? Problematic tbh

Harper - How she can be so organised but such a mess at the same time (sorry girl xoxo)

Lola - A lot of stuff confuses me about Lola, it’s due to her upbringing in such a well off family. She can be such a brat and sometimes come across uncaring even though she actually really does care with every fibre of her being

Noelle - The fact that she even wanted to become a serpent. Part of me understands she wants a family around her but her mum was so against this gang mentality and Noelle would usually go with whatever her mum thought 

Stella - Why she stays with boys who don’t seem to care about her and definitely don’t deserve her

13. How does your OC celebrate their birthday? What is their wildest birthday story?

Louie - She has all of her friends and their kids round to eat cake and watch movies. Her wildest was probably when she was still at home, her parents were away and she had a party at the house, police were called and she ended up arrested for being too noisy

Harper - She doesn’t really celebrate birthdays

Lola - She likes to be the centre of attention on her birthday, everything is about her from morning until night...and probably for the entire month tbh. Her wildest birthday is probably to come in the fic, partying barefoot on the beach with three gang members

Noelle - She is a Princess on her birthday, she absolutely loves it (and not just her own she loves everyones birthdays and always tries to make them special). Her wildest was probably when they were young and they (her, Fangs, Toni and Sweet Pea) snuck out to go and camp at the quarry. All of them ended up being reported as missing until they strolled into her place the next morning smelling like campfire.

Stella - She likes a lowkey celebration for her birthday, again her wildest is probably to come. I can imagine the Shelby's have a wild time for birthdays 

14. Your OC and their friends decides to go to a restaurant at 3am, what restaurant are they going to, and why are going to a restaurant at 3am?

Louie - They’d be at Joes because they’d probably have been having a lock in. The owner would trust her with her key as well so her, Alex, Lexie, Mark, Meredith and all the others would have the run of the place

Harper - Her and Bucky would be in a local take away because they couldn’t sleep

Lola - They’d be going out for ice cream after a night of partying

Noelle - Pops, especially after Veronica takes over, and because they’d hate sleeping in the tents and would need cheese fries to help them get over it

Stella - It’s not a restaurant but they’d still be drinking in The Garrison pub

Louie - Light blue to match her scrubs

Harper - Black, Shuri would add it to her uniform and Harper would lowkey adore it

Lola - White and it’d be with whatever summer dress she’d be wearing, cropped so it was just a little longer than them but didn't drag on the floor 

Noelle - Noe would love a cape omg. Hers would be black with the serpent logo on the back and she’d wear it everyday in place of her jacket

story fp jones party was anything but boring and uneventful. the was the return of Alice cooper that had tongues wagging some happy to see her others still angry from her words in the paper about her former family. then the was the northside karaoke, that was the most cringe worthy thing especially when they ran off stage mid song. a lot of the serpents more then happy to be shut of their singing. however the bar became silent when Jughead's girlfriend got on stage taking her clothes off.

Toni looked at the blonde beauty, impressed she'd done it and also by how good she looked too. Toni knew betty was jugs but hey a girl can look cant she. after the dance Toni watched fp jones put his jacket over her and grabbing the attention to the serpents. Toni saw Mrs cooper drag betty into the office to make her get dressed.

fp's speech had the pub rallied up, Toni included. finally the serpents had something to look forward to now, the uncertainty both jug and tallboy left the gang in was now cleared up. she watched as Fp hugged his son, whispering into his ear. she knew the older jones well and knew that wasn't a friendly hug. the expression on the young serpents face told Toni it was probably worse then she first thought.

sweet pea and other gang members all gathered round them, welcoming back Jones happy he was staying with them. a few minuets after Jughead left, Toni pushed herself up from her seat going to find out what was really going on. outside she stopped when she saw Betty and Jughead. she could hear their argument, " Not together. Betty, if you stay, I don't know if I can protect you anymore. You might get You probably will get hurt. I can't let that happen to you" he told her although Toni couldn't help but think there was more to it.

"It's not your decision to make" she said back to him. from where she was stood Toni could see the tears in betty's eyes. "Actually yeah, it is" jug said back, "How many times, Jug? How many time are we going to push each other away?" betty begged. "Until it sticks. I was my dad's one chance at going straight and I wrecked it. I'm not going to destroy you, too." Toni couldn't believe his words.

"Just tell me what happened, Jug. Jug! Tell me." Betty shouted as Jughead started walking away. "Please, go home" he said walking out if the car park, leaving Betty a sobbing mess. Toni ran to her and hugged Betty "look he didn't mean any of that, something happened with his dad" Toni tried to reassure her. Betty hugged Toni back, the two stood there until Betty calmed down a bit. "ill take you home" Toni said not trusting Betty to drive in the emotional state she was in.

they pulled out the small car park Toni indicating to go right to the northside. "I cant go home I cant face my mum after that" Betty begged. Toni rolled her eyes "you okay with coming back to mine then or do you want me to drop you at a friends?" the pink haired girl asked. Betty thought it over, going to veronica's would have been the best option but she needed to see Jughead once he'd calmed down. "is it okay if I come to yours?" she answered. Toni nodded "that's fine I have a bottle of vodka I've been looking for a reason to open" she smiled.

At Toni's home Betty still felt sad but put on a smile "thank you for being so nice to me" Betty said taking the drink. Toni had put in more vodka than what betty was used to but at this moment she didn't care if it helped her forget the events of the evening then she'd out up with the burning in her chest with each swig. "look I know we didn't always get along but I like you your not bad for a Northside and after a few drinks your not at all what I expected" Toni laughed. the two girls had been talking for ages, both avoiding the topics of Jughead, serpents vs north siders or Betty's mother. they found they loved the same old movies, and a few band too. They started drinking, Toni painted Betty's nails black after Betty braided Toni's hair in a crown braid leaving the rest down her back.

After a few hours they had drank almost the full bottle of vodka and was currently laughing as they danced around Toni's bedroom. The was no denying the was chemistry between them as Toni held Betty's hips moving in time with the music, Betty lifted her hands tangling them in Toni's hair. The way they looked at each other was intense and full of sexual tension. Toni bit her lip to stop herself from leaning in to kiss Betty, moving out of their hold as the song finished. A more upbeat song played next, Betty started jumping round shouting "I love this song", encouraging Toni to join. They jumped around the small room, Betty stumbled forward causing both her and and Toni to fall. 

They both laid there giggling looking at each other, quickly the laughing went quite as the sexual tension came back. Toni looked from Betty's  eyes to her lips and back again, like she was silently asking for permission, before Toni had chance to think, Betty leaned forward crashing her lips to Toni's.

The kiss was quick and soft, Betty pulled back a little looking at Toni. Toni smiled back at her tucking a loose bit of hair back behind Betty's ear. "what was that for?" She asked still with her hand cupped on Betty's cheek. The blonde looked shrugging her shoulders still smiling at the sassy serpent. Toni pulled Betty's head back to hers, their lips meeting again in a more passionate heated kiss.

A loud knock on the door made the two girls jump up off the floor. Both quickly fixing their clothes as Toni went to the door. Sweet pea and Fangs stood on the other side "hey topaz you okay we didn't see you leave last night you haven't answered my texts" sp said looking at Betty over Toni's shoulder. A questioning look on his face, Betty feeling a shy and a lot more sober now the two serpent's where there made an excuse to leave. "Toni thank you for letting me stay but I need to go home before my mum sends out a search party for me"

Toni looked a little sad Betty was leaving "you'll text me later?" she asked thinking was this all the pair would have one crazy night together. "yes definitely Toni" Betty smiled putting her arms around the pink haired serpent in what looked like just a friendly hug to the boys "I wanna finish what we started" she said in a flirty whisper. Before walking out the door looking back one last time to send Toni a wink.

Wanna One As People At Your Christmas Party

Yoon Jisung: host and the one who is in charge of the food. constantly yelling his greetings from the kitchen because Susan fcked up and bought a cold turkey instead of the heated kind. Put a lot of effort into arranging the buffet table and even bought a $58.99 limited edition tablecloth to ‘spice things up’. Will yell at you if you turn up with unseasoned food - everyone will. His presents are always high-quality DIY things and wrapped with love - ribbons, stickers and a handmade card. Makes a praiseworthy Christmas pudding. His casserole is the only one that won’t end up in the trash or thrown out by the kids. Will fight you if you talk bad about his cooking or his party. Once stayed up two nights just to perfect the batter for his Christmas log cake.

Ha Sungwoon: gossip uncle/aunt, he knows everything about everyone. A sly savage/mean. ‘Oh, Anna, I heard your daughter ran away from home because you wouldn’t let her date that junkie of a boyfriend she has, pity. Hope to see her soon.’ *saunters away with a wine glass in hand* in charge of bringing the wine and alcohol every year. ‘Sungwoon sweetie, isn’t that your fourth glass?’ ‘Ahh, Patricia, is that your fifth husband?’ Is drunk and has to be driven home but he remembers the whole night in detail and will tell stories about it. Buys a PS4 for your brother but a pair of Daiso socks for you because it was last minute when he remembered you existed. Stirs up a mean cocktail but will only offer it to Minhyun or Jisung. Orders more food when they seem to be running low - he has a knack for knowing things like that.

Hwang Minhyun: the uncle who you didn’t know about until 2 days before the party. Single. Quiet, drinks his beer in a corner. Only talks to his brother and close cousins. Stays close to Jaehwan and Sungwoon. Dresses extremely well, a chaebol and always has a colour scheme. After a couple of drinks, he’s hogging the karaoke machine and belting out 80s bops. A rich uncle who gifts unnecessarily expensive gifts. ‘Uncle Minhyun...you do realise that the Gucci sneakers you gave me are-.’ ‘Shush, accept it.’ He spoils all the young kids because he doesn’t have any of his own. Gifts each one baby Yeezys.

Ong Seongwoo: the fun young uncle everyone loves to see. The kids love him and dash to greet him immediately because they know he’ll play with them all night. More like a brother than an uncle. He and his girlfriend/boyfriend always rival Minhyun for the title of ‘best-dressed’. They always coordinate their outfits. It’s cute. A fun uncle who plays pool with you and won’t tell your parents if you pick up a can of alcohol. The uncle you can rely on if you’re dead drunk. Allows you to eat more even when you’re dieting. Will follow your wish list exactly so you always expect to receive it from him. He makes ramen even after walloping his share of the buffet. Offers to add chicken and beer to Sungwoon’s FoodPanda/UberEats delivery. ‘Pepperoni pizza sounds good too.’

Kim Jaehwan: strange uncle but very talented so he leads everyone in carolling or praise and worship. The conductor of the church choir so he brings his skills to the living room. ‘A 5,6..a 5,6,7..8! Jingle bells, jingle bells - TIMMY! YOUR NOTE IS TOO AIRY LET’S TRY THIS AGAIN.’ Gossips to Uncle Sungwoon a lot. ‘Listen, I heard Martha fought with Grand aunt Ellen over a fcking curtain.’ Will talk to you about random or embarrassing things - probably in front of your parents. ‘Hey, I heard you got a tattoo on your underwear line, did it hurt?’ Unintentionally. Says he’s full after one plate of the buffet but hogs the snack table. ‘Is there any more salsa?’ You love him. Gifts really random but useful things such as mall vouchers. Like it’s a standardised gift for the nieces and nephews of this age.

Kang Daniel: cousin you just got out of his National Service and tells everyone war stories about it. Pats you on the back every time he sees you. He’s just glad he made it out of army alive and that his electric fly swatter didn’t get taken away from him. Host number 2 but no matter the location, he makes sure to bring his beloved cats along. The kids throw a fanfare when they spot Daniel taking his pet carriers out of his backseat. Also takes care of bringing games, be it board games, computer games, he’s got them all. Provides snacks. If he got the job of feeding his baby nieces and nephews, he’ll tempt them with jellies. ‘If you finish this now, I promise I’ll give you a gummy bear later and won’t tel your mother.’ A professional at ‘Just Dance’.

Park Jihoon: the hot cousin who is responsible for organising this whole event. Surprisingly good at his job. Got the colour scheme, games, presents, food and activities all in check in a week. Greets everyone with a hug. His Christmas outfit is rather questionable though....but moving on! The whole family swoons at his good looks and everyone throws a huge fuss when he says he’s single. Jihoon Instagrams and Snapchats the entire party the whole night so the world knows that the Park family Christmas is LIT. Only allows award-winning songs/artists to be played. Gets very competitive when Daniel wants to play ‘Just Dance’. - there’s fury in his eyes. Yet he’ll get all shy and blush when a small cousin asks him about kisses and mistletoe. If the family plays ‘Murderer’, they’ll have a hard time because all Jihoon does is wink.

Park Woojin: oh gosh. the awkward cousin who came back from studying abroad and has an accent. Everyone thinks he’s faking it because uhh how does your accent change in just 5 months ? Only talks to Jihoon and is almost quieter than Minhyun. That’s until he’s warmed up and now you can hear him screaming as he’s playing tag with the kids. ‘HELP SOMEONE SAVE ME.’ Is surprisingly good at playing pool and ‘Just Dance’. Daniel’s spot as dance king is suddenly heavily threatened. A sweetheart who compliments everyone on their effort and Jisung is practically glowing from the praise his turkey received. Engages everyone with story time of his studies abroad. ‘Oh...we don’t have that over there but we have...’ that sort of thing. Smiles really brightly for pictures and when giving out gifts it gives people heart attacks

Bae Jinyoung: the cute but super shy friend of your cousin who tagged along for the party. Hides in the kitchen or pretends to be getting something from the table every time you try to talk to him. A total cinnamon roll - will help you take food or get more drinks if you mindlessly complain about that to your aunt. Keeps stuffing his face with cookies so that he doesn’t have to talk. Too shy to volunteer to play ‘Just Dance’ but your cousin pushes him up there anyway. EVERYONE WAS SHOOKT HE IS SO TALENTED. Also received recognition for his good looks. ‘So,,,Jinyoung right? I have a child around your age, would you be interested?’. Everyone wanted to become his friend. Blushes easily, especially when you bumped into him under the mistletoe, poor boy ran for his dear life. Spends most of the night with Daniel’s cats.

Lee Daehwi: the nephew who decorated Jisung’s house for this occasion. Put effort into making everyone an ugly Christmas sweater. Each and every year, gifts from him are packaged differently. Has a crush on Jinyoung. Over enthusiastic, he arrived at Jisung’s house at 10am to ‘get ready’. Becomes super happy and cheerful while decorating. Stole a couple of cookies from the jar before the party even began. Unfortunately, he gets flustered and upset when no one pays attention to his obvious Christmas joy...or when he’s too short to reach the top of the Christmas tree to pin the star. How cute. Has a different prop for each carol he sings. Acts more of a host than Jisung is and never forgets to give a cuddle to the cats, he even slips them bits of turkey or ham. Takes this opportunity to catch up with all his extended family and see if anyone has connections to the party planning world.

Lai Guanlin: your youngest ‘tween’ cousin who regrets coming. Anti-social, only answers questions and talks to the elders out of respect. On his phone the whole time, probably Tweeting about how much he doesn’t want to be here. ‘Mum,,,can we go yet?’ He’s only here for the food and presents. Wore all black even though Daehwi and Jihoon cleared stated that this year’s colour theme was GOLD. Cheers up a little after feasting but he won’t indulge in conversation immediately. Likes to secretly tune into Jaehwan’s and Sungwoon’s gossip. Watches Minhyun’s Kdrama behind his back and observes how cuddly Ongniel gets. Jihoon refuses to let him be the DJ or choose the Christmas movie and it’ll stay like that for a long time. He only gets soft and cute when Daniel’s cats are around. Most likely to get the most expensive gift from Minhyun.

Mormon Headcanons

Ok... So since I literally needed only one person to be interested in hearing my headcanons, I’m gonna post them! Thanks @bookofbway!

Alright... I’m gonna start with James Church, because he doesn’t get enough love. 

THIS IS GONNA START OF REAL SAD. 

James wasn’t originally a Mormon, since due to his upbringing, I seriously doubt his parents were Mormons.

His mum died when he was still young, (probably about 10) from something unrelated to his dad, a car accident or something. (I’m sorry!)

Afterwords, due to the shock of losing his wife, his dad went sober and tried to concentrate on bringing his son up right. 

James never forgave his father for the way he treated him and his mother. 

Mormon missionaries came knocking at their house one day, and James chose to convert as he found it comforting the idea that his mother had went to a better place and that in latter days he could spend eternity with her. 

He also liked the idea of going on a mission to help others, and also liked the idea of being able to get away from his dad for 2 years. 

James was a track runner at school, and although he was sporty, found his passion more in the arts. 

He is an amazing sketch artist and enjoys writing short stories and poetry. 

He’s more serious and sombre than the other Mormon’s in Ugnada, but tries to act cheerful and bright (and turn it off). 

He really liked Chris, because he felt he could relate to him since Chris had lost his sister. (also Poptarts was extremely adorable.)

He has messy black hair, and wears large square framed glasses.

Is the tallest and strongest out of all the Missionaries in Uganda.  OK! Now for poptarts

Enjoys dancing as it’s his way of remembering and commemorating his sister. 

Has an extreme fear of his friends and family dying on him. 

Will never end a conversation on a negative note and always tries to say goodbye to his friends and family when leaving, just in case he never sees them again. 

Loves everything sweet. 

Poptarts was his sisters favourite food. 

He has no formal dance training, but is quite good since his sister taught him how too (and then Mckinley afterwords)

He originally had a crush on his Mission Companion, Elder Mckinley, before he started to develop feelings for James Because James listened to him and understood his pain of loosing his sister rather than just telling him to turn it off. (Also James was hot af, and muscular and...) 

He’s definitely the shortest and cutest of all the Elders

He has a Teddy bear that he took with him to Uganda, and will protect at all costs. 

He loves looking at James art and reading his stories. 

He is Bi (and no-one can tell me otherwise) MCKINLEY!!!!!!

Ok so, Mckinley defintely is the eldest child with 2 younger sisters, so he knows how to be authoritative and control and lead people. 

He took tap classes, literally right up to the time where he left for Uganda.

His sisters were somewhat jealous that Connor is a better dancer than them.

But his sisters also stood up for him to his arents and peers saying that pink is a perfectly normal colour for a boy to like and that they should break gender stereotypes and stop calling him gay. Connor appreciates them for this. 

He was definitely bullied in year 5 for how close he was to his friend Steve and all through highschool people would accuse him of being gay. 

He started dating a female friend of his, to try to make others believe that he was straight. The relationship didn’t last very long though. 

He totally got all the lead roles in the school plays, and sometimes did performance is the Community theatre musicals. 

He is an excellent singer and had also taken vocal lessons from a young age. 

He was also a very strong leader within theatre groups he was part off and often organised mini performances around their community with them. 

Connor may seem friendly and nice, but don’t ever cross him or undermine his authority, he will wring your neck. 

He’s never seen a prettier Boy with more perfect hair than Elder Price. 

It broke his heart to have to ditch Elder Price in Uganda and leave with Elder Cunningham and the other Elder’s, but since he was pushing down his emotions, and trying to be a good Mormon on his Mission it’s what he choose to do. 

He cared more about making the other Elder’s happy, and creating a friendly community among them, than converting the Africans, thus why they literally had no baptisms. 

As soon as they went off-grid with their mission, he immediately got a TV and gaming system installed withing their lodging to entertain the Elders. 

Him and Poptarts crush at Just Dance. 

He literally holds a karaoke night once a month at the Missionary. 

He was actually very surprised (and pleased) to find out Elder Price was gay

Once he did come out completely, he was very open with his affections towards Kevin (which Kevin often got embarrased about) 

Falsettos is totally his favourite musical. He especially loves Whizzer.  ALRIGHT! ARNOLD CUNNINGHAM

Always had the best imaginative writing at school. 

Writes a ton of Fanfiction, and reads them too. 

Has heaps of OC’s.

Bit of a loner at school too, never really had any friends. 

Extremely popular online though.

Had a huge Tumblr following on his blogs about Star Wars, LOTR etc.

Has heaps of Fan theories too. 

Totally Vlogs. 

Cosplays as well. Goes to all the conventions.

Dreams of being able to go to San Diego Comic Con

He has Irlens Syndrome, which is one of the reasons why he didn’t read the Book of Mormon, becuase it was actually difficult for him to read it. 

His father literally thinks of him as a freak due to all his obsessions and fanboying. 

His mother dotes on him though and adores him for the person he is. 

He always wants his fathers approval though, which is why he decided to go on a mission. 

He genuinely wants to do good in the world and make others happy, and will do anything to help others, even if he doesn’t get anything from it. 

He forces Kevin to Cosplay with him on Halloween. He goes as Han Solo and Kevin goes as Luke Skywalker.

He holds a halloween party and costume party in Uganda for all the Elders and Africans.

He also makes a Leia costume for Naba, which she loves, despite not really knowing too much about Star Wars. 

All the Elders end up loving the little quirks about Arnold in the end, and have a great deal of Respect for him, since he’s so kind hearted.

He’s never been happier than he was in Uganda. 

He still admires and loves Kevin after everything they went through.  AND FINALLY THE MOST PERFECT MAN ON EARTH (AND I WILL FIGHT PEOPLE OVER THIS) KEVIN PRICE. I literally love him so much though.

Kevin grew up in a really strict household. 

He’s the second oldest of all his siblings, with an older sister and three younger brothers. 

He always feels that he has to compete against his siblings to be seen as the best, and to do so, tried to do literally nothing wrong. 

His favourite sibling is his Brother Jack, who is just a year younger than him, because Jack worships and admires Kevin and he rather likes that. He also still feels super guilty for blaming him for eating that donut

Him and all his siblings all took piano lesson. 

Kevin is actually very good at piano, but not as good as his older sister, which always really bugged him because he wanted to be the best at everything. 

Straight A student. 

Literally had no time for relationships throughout school since he was too busy trying to make everyone like him, as well as being a good mormon, getting good grades, playing piano well. 

Didn’t realise till he was in Uganda that he was gay.

He never really though about relationships, or had sexual thoughts till he was in Uganda since he was always so busy.

He had a very meticulously planned schedule. 

He absolutely adores everything Disney and Pixar, loves happy endings and cries every time Mufasa dies. 

His favourite Movie is actually Toy Story, since he finds Woody relatable. 

Reads all Arnolds fanfictions. Feruses to admit that he actually enjoys them.

Actually loves and respects his best friend, Arnold, since he truly hasn’t ever had a true best friend before. 

Sings disney songs during Mckinley’s Karaoke nights. 

Everyone is shocked that Kevin can sing. 

Kevin is shocked by his own singing voice. 

He loves how touchy Mckinley is, but is a little embarrassed by it. 

Absolutely adores Mckinley for everything he is. 

Once he realised he was gay, was actually reasonably open about it, since he never really understood why it was bad withing mormonism anyway.

Takes hour long showers to make sure his hair is perfect

Loves dogs. Like really loves dogs OK! SO THOSE ARE MY HEADCANONS ON THE ELDERS!

Hopefully though, you enjoy the fic! I don’t write fluff or Lucien/Jean often (ever?), but I did my best :-)  Merry Christmas, and I hope the new year is kind to you!

Well, your daughter only turns eighteen once, was how he mollified himself stepping out of the car. Li comically threw herself onto the ground, but stopped short of kissing the ground. “Oh dear God, I’m alive!” She exclaimed. Her brother scoffed as he slid out of the drivers seat. Charlie looked offended by her comment. “I wasn’t that bad.” He muttered, even though Lucien had to wretch the wheel out of his hand no less than three times.

Out of the corner of his eye, he watched a boy in a fairly poor George Michael costume approach them. Charlie’s boyfriend, Danny. Compared to Charlie, who was wearing the same denim jacket he wore every day with the addition of one ‘I killed Laura Palmer’ badge (taken from the shed, from a box of things Mei Lin left behind and Charlie had decided were his). “Good evening Doctor Blake!” Danny said, wrapping an arm around Charlie’s shoulders. The 1980s music pumping out of the pub is a song he recognizes but doesn’t know. “Good evening, Danny.” He smiled. “My driving isn’t that bad, is it?” Charlie asked as they went inside. Danny pulled an expression Lucien recognized from his own marriage that was a ‘you are, but I don’t want to hurt your feelings.’ Expression.

“It is.” Lucien said, stepping inside. “Yeah. I’m adding another song for almost killing us.” Li declared. “You wouldn’t.” “It’s my birthday so you have to do as I say.” Li said. Charlie looked to Lucien for help but he put his hands up. “Sorry son. She’s the birthday girl.” Lucien said, as the four of them wandered over to a large booth towards the back of the building. Charlie slid into one side of the booth, pulling Danny with him. He slid in across from him, Li slid in next to him.

It was on his first glance around the room that he noticed her. She was standing up on the stage, holding the microphone maybe a little tight in her hand. Her green drop waisted dress looked like it came directly from the decade in question, paired with a blazer that gave her shoulders rival to his own. He can imagine going to a nightclub in town and finding her at the bar, sipping an exotic cocktail from a glass with a tiny umbrella in it. And that wasn’t even getting him started on her voice.

“The goddess of beauty and love, and Venus was her name-“

She’s got it, yeah baby she’s got it, Lucien thought, the lyrics to the Bananarama song echoing around his head. He hadn’t even noticed her equally 80’s backup singers, equally coated in neon, tulle and poor choices. He tore his eyes away from the singing to look at Charlie, who was waving his hand in front of his face. “Doc? Doc? Earth to doc!” In a comical fashion. “Hm?” “Do you want something to drink?” “Hm?” “We’re in a pub, Daddy.” Li said, “A place where people go to drink.” Charlie is holding his debit card, while Danny poured over a menu. “Uh, I’ll just…Have a lemonade.” He said, and then produced his own card. “Put that away, use mine.” Charlie shrugged, and tucked his card into his pocket. “Drinks on me.” “Oh, you don’t have to do that.” Danny said, blushing. “My daughter will only turn eighteen once.” Lucien grinned, “So drinks are on me.” Danny conceded, and trailed after Charlie as he went to get drinks.

Green dress has gotten off stage, but he quickly spotted her sitting in a booth down near the stage with her friends. There’s quite a large group of them, and they’re all about her age. “Are you going to sing a song?” She asked, looking at the man giving a rather disappointing rendition of Everybody Wants to Rule the World. “Maybe.” He commented, as Li started combing through the enormous book of songs that the machine played. She’d come prepared with a note pad and paper to write down the ones that she wanted to sing, or force her brother into singing.

“Have you heard from your mother?” He asked, softly. “She texted me this morning.” Li said, looking up from the notepad. “How is she?” “She’s fine. She likes Singapore a lot.” Li smiled, “Looking forward to when I come over for the holidays.” He nodded, and sat back in his chair. He was happy with the way custody was split, (or, had been split now she was eighteen) but that didn’t make saying goodbye to his daughter for months at a time any easier. Over time, his relationship with Mei Lin has gotten better, but it still wasn’t great. They tried their best to keep things civil for Li’s sake.

“I’ve got drinks!” Charlie said excitedly, coming around the table. He was holding a small pitcher of beer and a couple of glasses, and Danny was holding a can of Diet Coke, and a can of lemonade, as well as bowl of chips in his other hand. “Wooo!” Li said, enthusiastically as Danny poured drinks. Charlie slid back into the booth and popped the top on his Diet Coke, and slid a can of Kirks across the table to him. “They didn’t have any Sprite.” Charlie apologized, as Lucien took a long sip. “It’s fine.” He smiled, as Danny and Li tapped their drinks together. His eyes drifted away through the crowd, and he spotted green dress laughing with her friends in front of the machine, clearly going up for another song.

“Looks like we might be fighting for control of the machine.” Danny said, draping an arm around Charlie’s shoulders. Charlie looked for a moment like he might shrug it off, and then thought better of it, squishing up closer to Danny’s side so he could see the book. He observed the interaction and smiled to himself. He liked Danny a lot, he thought it was good for Charlie to be with someone who was affectionate.

Not for the first time, he felt a tiny niggle of jealousy deep in his gut. He and Mei Lin had married young, he wanted to upset his father, and he thought she was going to be the love of his life. Li was born, and things got miserable. He’d been determined that his daughter wasn’t going to grow up in an unhappy home, and he and Mei Lin tried and tried to work it out, but it still ended in divorce. Of course, then Charlie fell into his life, and he’d become a full-time father again, not just the half of the year when Li was with him.

He’d been busy, with work and child rearing (and drinking).  He hadn’t done much by way of dating when Charlie was young, and he hadn’t since he moved out, either. His eyes drifted out over the collection of people, and then came back to rest on Charlie and Danny. Maybe it was time to get back into the game.

Green dress was back up on stage, her metallic blue eye shadow sparking in the light. She was alone this time, and her slightly drunk friends are cheering loudly by the stage.

“True colours.” Charlie said, scribbling that down on Li’s notepad. “Have you heard her new album? The country one?” Danny asked, to which Li shook her head. Lucien drowned their chatter out to pay attention to the veritable siren on the stage.

“Don’t be afraid, to let them show…” He murmured under his breath. Oblivious to his heart eyes, the three young people at the end of the table pulled him back into conversation. “Alright, Daddy-o.” Li started, “We’ve picked out some songs.” He tore his eyes away from her for the second time to look at them. “Charlie is going to be singing Wake Me Up Before you Go Go-“ “Against my wil-“ “-Shut up Charlie, Danny will be singing Ice Ice Baby-“ “Which is actually from the 90-“ “Shut up, Charlie, I will be singing Cornflake Girl-“ “That is from the 90s, just like-“ “Shut up, Charlie,  and you will be singing Mona.” “Which is also from the 90s.” “Which version of Mona?” He asked, ignoring Charlie. “Well, since you keep saying you look like him, the Craig Mac version.” “I think you mean Craig Mac and the Check 1 -2s.” “Whatever. It’s in the book.” Lucien looked at Charlie, who was arms folded and nearly pouting. “I’m lost, who’s Craig Mac?” “Craig McLachlan, people always say Doc looks like him.” Charlie said, filling his boyfriend in on the situation. “Who?” “Remember when I took you to see Rocky Horror?” “Yeah.” “The main dude.” Danny tilted his head and examined the man. “I can kinda see it.” Danny said, “Maybe if you were wearing lipstick.” “I told you I look like him.” Lucien insisted, as Charlie rolled his eyes. “People mistake me for him all the time.” “Sure they do.” Li said, rolling her eyes, too. Charlie is a terrible influence on her. “Well, if they ever make a movie of my life, I know who they’ll cast.” “Yes, Doc, they’ll make a movie of your life. Working at the clinic, driving Li to soccer practice and dragging your son to an 80s night and everyone decides to sing 90s songs.” “You don’t know that. Maybe I’ll save the life of a famous person, or be in a really bad boating accident.” “Yeah you don’t have to actually be good at anything, you just have to have lots of bad stuff happen to you.” Danny agreed. “We’re not living in Scream, Danny.” Charlie scoffed, “And if Doc’s life was made into a movie, what kind of dinky d-lister are they going to get to play me? Some dude who people only remember from one appearance in a shitty kids film, probably.” “Speak for yourself, I’m at least a B-lister.” Danny said, “Hopefully, some hot, young Home and Away alum.” “With my luck,” Li said, “I won’t be played by anyone because it’ll happen when I was seeing Mum.” The three of them tittered, and Lucien, having had enough of his spawns bickering, rolled his eyes. “I am going to que us up at the machine.” He declared, getting to his feet. “Alright, then.” Charlie said, handing him the slip of paper. Li slid out of the booth, and after a moment, got right back into bickering with Charlie. Lucien rolled his eyes, and wandered down to the front of the pub. The karaoke machine sat at the bottom of a little stage, and it seemed to be a free for all when you were putting in your songs.

He cued up each of the songs Li had written down, and then looked over at the machine. He typed in each song so they were cued up, and paused to watch the women on stage, belting out ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ as if their lives depended on it. Green dress was standing in the crowd, mouthing the word. He could walk up, and talk to her, if he really wanted. There was nothing wrong with that. But he’s a coward, and she’s here with her friends, so instead he goes back to the table.

“Who’s up first?” Li asked, taking another sip of beer. “Me.” Lucien scoffed, “Who else?” “Your freshly legal daughter?” “Don’t be ridiculous. Eldest first.” “Well, by that logic, I should be first.” Charlie counted, “Since I am in fact a one hundred and five-year-old alien.” “Can you prove that?” Lucien asked. “Can you disprove it?” “You look good for your age.” Danny said, “I would have thought you were only eighty-five.” “It’s not my fault I was blessed with beautiful skin.” He’s barely been sitting for five minutes when his song flashes on the machine. “We’ll be here.” Li says, all but shoving him out of the booth.

He hurried to the stage, and took the microphone in both hands. The lights were so bright he could hardly see the crowd, but he did notice Green Dress watching him, interested. Lucien has never thought of himself as a shy person, but damn she was making it hard. Look at you, old fool. You don’t even know her and you’re acting like she’s your high school crush.

The music kicked in, and words danced along the screen suddenly. He hadn’t realized it, but he’d started to sing.  He was already at the chorus when his mind kicked in. He’d been swept up in the memory of playing this on Charlie’s school guitar with him.  

“Tell you Mona what I want to do!”

He sang, the crowd cheering him on. Suddenly, he’s struck with a devious idea. He moved to the front of the stage, keeping his voice steady as he reached out, drawing on his inner Craig McLachlan, he offered green dress a hand. To his surprise, she took it, and let him lead her to the stage.

In the bright lights, she looks all but angelic. Her hair is ridiculously back combed and it looks like a halo in the light. He can’t tell if her eyes are sparkling or if it’s the makeup, but either way it’s beautiful. She moved left, then right, her hands suspended in the air as she moved in time with the bouncy music. Her lipstick is pink, and has tiny sparkles suspended in it. She smells like a mix of perfume and cocktails. He wants to keep starring at her as she lets him take a hand, hers fits seamlessly into his, and turn her around.

The light catches on the metallic fabric of her dress, and she can’t help but give him the most beautiful smile he’s ever seen as the song finally comes to a close. The romantic lighting fades away, and they’re back to standing on a demountable stage in a slightly dodgy bar in a worse for wear part of town. Only three of the lights work, and behind him the neon lights are only half working. They stand for a moment, looking at each other, before laughing. They get the same clap as everyone else, polite but mostly disinterested.

The next song clicks onto the screen, and both of them scurried off to the tables in the front row. Deciding that the kids could wait, he sat across from her, and they both looked at one another, before laughing again. “I must say, you’re a very talented singer, Mister?” “Lucien. Lucien Blake. And you?” “Jean.” “Nice to meet you, Jean. “And you.” “So what brings a lovely lady like you, to a place like this?” Okay not his smoothest move but it would do. “A girls night. No better decade than the eighties.” She grinned. Her teeth are white and square. “You?” “My kids birthday.” She looked at the stage where Danny was belting out Ice Ice Baby with enough enthusiasm for ten people.

“That’s one of yours?” “He’s actually my future son in law.” Pause. “Should I be worried about my kid dating someone who looks like me?” Apparently, his dad humor amused her because she chuckles. “Ahh, we all mess up our kids, comes with the territory.” There’s something sad under the laughter. He decides to take her mind off it. “Well, children aside, can I buy you a drink?” “Mighty forward of you, am I to assume there’s no Mrs Blake?” “There is not.” Not anymore, not that she needed to know that. She contemplated, before she nodded. She checked her oversized watch. “I’ll have a ginger ale.” Lucien grinned and made his way to the counter. He noticed Charlie is hiding his face, and Danny is now sitting on the opposite side of the table, and Li is all but skipping towards the stage. He grabbed a ginger ale, and a diet Coke for himself.

He returned to his seat, and delivered the lady her ginger ale. “Is this one one of yours?” He doesn’t comment on her usage of one twice. “My only and eldest daughter.” Li was singing off key, but what she lacked in nuance, she made up for with enthusiasm.

“I always wanted a daughter.” Jean said, “But God only saw fit to bless me with sons.” “How many sons?” “Two, Jack and Christoper Jr.” “A family name?” “After my late husband.” “I’m so sorry.” “This isn’t very good first meeting talk.” Jean observed. “As old people, we are strictly limited to discussing our children, marriages and the weather.” “And IKEA sales.” “IKEA is having a sale?” “Yeah it just finished, flat pack was half price.” He clicked his arms in front of him. “Damn. Just missed it.” Jean laughed, and took a sip of her drink, her lipstick left a mark around the rim. Interestingly, she doesn’t use a straw. They lapse into a comfortable silence until Li finishes singing, and Lucien has to do his fatherly duty and ensure he’s clapping the loudest. Li flung herself off the stage, and ran over excitedly. “Did you like it?” “Of course I did.” He said, irrespective of if he actually did. “It was great.” Jean said, as Li eyed her. Apparently, she passed the test, because Li grinned. “I’m going to force Charlie onto the stage.” Lucien caught her arm. “I know ribbing Charlie about his driving and bad attitude is all fun and games, but if he really doesn’t want to do it, don’t force him.” He warned her.  “He’s allowed to bow out if he’s not comfortable.” Li nodded, and hurried back to the table.

“She seems like a nice young lady.” Lucien gave a wiry smile. “You haven’t gotten to know her yet.” “Will I?” “I haven’t decided yet.” He replied, “Would you like to?” “I haven’t decided yet.”

Lucien looked up as Charlie took the stage, his hands shaking hard as he tried to keep a tight hold on the microphone. Danny is already cheering, much to the annoyance of the other patrons, but they could all serve to lighten up a little. What Li had lacked in talent she made up for with gusto. Danny…Well Lucien doesn’t know; he’s pretty sure Ice Ice Baby isn’t even a real song, but he’d at least had enthusiasm. Charlie has neither skill, nor excitement, and his singing amounted to him mumbling into the microphone. But he gave it a shot and Lucien supposed that was the most important part

“One of yours?” “Yep.” He replied, as Charlie slunk off stage before he could even begin to clap; Danny cheering as loudly as he dared. He slunk off stage and into the bathroom. Lucien watched as Danny followed after him and supposed he got it covered. Jean touched his arm lightly. “He’s quite brave.” “He always is.” He replied, “Can I buy you another drink?” He inquired, smiling. Charlie would be fine.  Jean checked her watch again. “No, but you can sing a little duet with me, if you’d like.” Jean said, swallowing the last of her drink.  Lucien observed her for a moment, before nodding. “Of course. What do you fancy singing?” “I’ll surprise you.”

Lucien watched her walk away, and he noticed he’s smiling to himself. She keys in a song to be performed after the woman on stage finishes her (very enthusiastic) version of ’I Ran (so far away)’. While he waited, he wandered up to Jean, coming to a stop next to her. She smiled at him, and she looks like the sun has just risen for the first time.

When the woman gets off the stage, he joins her, there is only one microphone, so they have to stand very close. He can smell her breath: ginger ale and alcohol. Maybe a little bit of toothpaste. The song title flashes up on the screen, accompanied by an unfortunately fake sounding guitar: ‘More Than Words – Extreme’ Huh. He kind of remembers that song, but not too well. Not well enough he could sing it by heart, but It’ll do. Jean takes the opening verse, starting a fraction of a second before he can open his mouth.

“Saying "I love you" Is not the words I want to hear from you-“

Lucien is struck by the thought that her voice would sound beautiful up against a plain piano, maybe a metronome. It’s a beautiful voice, attached to a beautiful woman. He is ridiculously infatuated with her, despite having known her for less than an hour. Matthew was going to think this was a hilarious story when he shares it next time they meet for lunch.

That’s if he survives the teasing from his kids.

“What would you do? If my heart was torn in two?”

Lucien’s heart is already in two, but of course, he doesn’t say that out loud. It’s just a song, after all, it’s meant to be relatable. No one wants to listen to music they cannot relate to. It’s why teen pop sells so well, and also probably why Charlie used to have a wall full of Justin Bieber posters. Because people relate to having a crush, or being in love, or having whatever an Ennie Meanie Miney Mo lover is. And he, in his old age of fifty, can relate to having a heart torn in two. That’s just how it was.

Jean picks up for the Chorus, all but belting the lyrics in true karaoke style.

I love you. Lucien has said a lot of I love yous in his life.

To his mother. To his wife. To his daughter. To his son. To his close friends. To his dogs. He’s said a lot of I Love Yous and he is suddenly and shockingly struck by the fact that he would like, some day, to say I love you to Jean with no last name he met in a dodgy bar in a worn out neighborhood, like a fool. He is a fool. A hopeless romantic, sure, but still a fool. You don’t fall in love with someone you just met. Love takes time, and work, and effort, and he wants to do all that. But first, he just wants to get through this song.

“Touch me, hold me close, don't ever let me go. More than words is all I ever needed you to show-“

Could he have saved his other relationship? Potentially. Touch me. Hold me close. He wanted to hold someone close. He wanted to be held. He wanted romance, and love. Someone once told him, potentially Matthew, that he was built to love, that he had too much of it, and he was destined to be a bleeding heart. That has never felt more true than it did right now.

The music fades out. Kiss her, you fool! Kiss her! Thankfully, Lucien is not a slave to his base urges, and he does not invade the woman’s space more than he needs to. They depart the stage, and she gathers her bag. Lucien casts an eye to his table. The kids are sitting and talking among themselves. Charlie seems to have recovered, and Danny is trotting to the stage. Lucien recognizes the opening to ‘I Love You, Always, Forever” if he’s ever heard it. Didn’t seem like Danny had much musical talent, either. Oh well, C’est La Vie.

Jean is speaking with her friends, he looks over at his one time companion. She’s holding a napkin in one hand, it has the logo of the bar in one corner and a stain that could be anything from grease to beer in the other. She passes it to him, and there is a note scrawled there in purple gel pen.

Then her phone number, and a kiss imprint, complete with tiny pink sparkles. He looked up, Jean was nowhere to be seen. Neither were her friends. After a moment, he moved back to the table, and sat back down next to Li.  He put an arm around her shoulders and looked at her list of potential songs. Your eldest daughter only turns eighteen once.

In fact the model turned actress has never missed a chance to stun her fans and followers with her rather photogenic skills. In fact, Amy Jackson has certainly been raising temperatures with her constant posts from Ibiza to London.

Now doing it once again, Amy recently took to the social networking platform Instagram sharing an image from her latest photoshoot. The shoot which was done for the magazine Galore, features Amy in varied looks. Shot by Frankie Mark – Nancy Gomez the photographs are simply stunning. How actress Amy Jackson went from Liverpool to Bollywood?

What if one day you woke up and one of your parents told you that one of the biggest film directors in India wanted you to be the lead role in his movie? Sounds pretty crazy, right?

Well, this actually happened to Amy Jackson (@iamamyjackson). Amy Jackson was a young girl from Liverpool who began modeling at the age of 16. She won the title of Miss Teen World in 2009 and Miss Liverpool in 2010. While pursuing her modeling career in the UK, Amy was spotted by an Indian director named A L Vijay on the Miss Teen World website. She received a call from her agency regarding a director being in touch. Amy was still a teenager at the time, and before she knew it, she was off to London with her parents to meet the director who was going to change the course of her life.

It wasn’t all that easy, though. She was asked to play the role of a British governor’s daughter, and the director thought she had the perfect look for it. Amy had to learn different Tamil dialogues for her first movie even though her dialogue was dubbed by a Hindi actress.

A couple years ago, Amy was still just a normal girl in her city of Liverpool and had a completely different life in India. That life included a hair and makeup team, an assistant, two body guards and fans approaching her anywhere she went.

Now, Amy has made her mark as an international model, appearing on covers such as Vogue India, Maxim India, and featured in Elle UK. Her fame is taking a new path as she is making her debut in the British film industry in a movie titled Boogie Man. She also just became an ambassador and the face of Lipsy’s new VIP collection, so she’s pretty much winning at life.

I had the chance to ask Amy a few questions on how her life has changed and on her career in Indian cinema.

Can you tell me a little bit about how you got started in the acting industry?

I was completely thrown into the deep end! After I won Miss Teen World at 16, the press went worldwide and an Indian film director AL Vijay spotted me. He was casting the lead role for a 1940s period drama. I did my very first audition and within two weeks, I was shooting my first feature film in India.

How did you end up working in the Indian film industry, and what has your experience been like?

It’s been a total rollercoaster. Initially, it was very difficult. I always planned to go traveling across Asia after I finished studying but the opportunity popped up a lot sooner than expected! I was 16 when I first travelled to Chennai with my mum for the first movie, “Madrasapattinam.” Everything was a shock to the system! The language, the food, the culture. On Indian movie sets, there’s no concept of “working hours,” we would literally shoot twenty hour days, then I’d go back to my hotel room and memorize the dialogues for the next day. The crew were amazing though, they taught me so much and became my family in India.

After I saw the movie on the silver screen it made me want to keep going and get even better. I decided to learn the language and I moved to Mumbai. Twelve films later, I have a home there, I can speak Hindi, and I can rustle up a decent biryani!

What made you want to be apart of the “Boogie Man” film?

I wanted to bridge the two industries together and “Boogie Man” was the perfect stepping stone for it. It’s a British film directed by Andy Morhan and it’s about a British-Indo family living in London. The storyline touches on the traditional Indian family values as well as having comedy and romance in there. It was definitely a film I could relate to after spending seven years working in India.

How do you start your day before a shoot? Do you have a daily routine?

I’m not a morning person at all, which doesn’t help when movie shoot call times tend to be before 7 a.m.! Nevertheless, as long as I have an hour to myself then I’m good to go. I do a minimum of 30 minutes light workout, (I’ve only just started yoga but I love it!) and I need a good cuppa tea before I go anywhere. I also have a skin regime before makeup.

Whats the craziest thing you’ve experienced while shooting a movie?

One of the craziest/scariest experiences would’ve been when we were night shooting in the backwaters of Kerala. It was about 4 a.m. so we were all exhausted, I passed out in a little rowing boat whilst I was waiting for the shot and I woke up to my makeup artist screaming because a python had managed to land up in our boat. Thankfully the locals were there to help us.

What song do you sing your heart out to in the shower?

Diana Ross, “I Will Survive” in the shower, on a road trip, karaoke… whenever!

What are the differences you’ve noticed when working in Indian film opposed to British film?

When I work on South Indian movies it tends to be a lot more spontaneous which can sometimes be good but not when you’ve learnt your foreign language dialogues and they change the whole thing just before a take! The British film I’ve just worked on was very organized and we actually got a run through of scenes and shots which never usually happens on an Indian movie.

1. Do you ever doubt the existence of others than you? Not their existence, but I sometimes feel as though things are centered around me. Particularly when I’m having a crap day or I’m in a hurry, and it feels as though people have been deliberately placed around me to ruin my mood, or slow me down.

2. On a scale of 1-5, how afraid of the dark are you? It really depends on where I am and who I’m with. Somewhere that I know like my house or my hometown (where absolutely nothing happens) is absolutely fine. But if I’ve been separated from my group in an unknown city or the woods, it would be at least a three.

3. The person you would never want to meet? Can I go for someone who I never want to meet again? One of my exes, because I honestly don’t know what I’d do. He absolutely broke me. I despise him, and I despise the person who I was when I was with him. We tried the “let’s be friends” shit for a while after we broke up, but then I cut him from my life with no explanation. I don’t want to face him again.

4. What is your favorite word? I’m a big fan of “effectively” at the moment. Really unnecessary, but it makes some of my statements sound a little smarter.

5. If you were a type of tree, what would you be? I don’t know tree types, but something that was withered and is on the verge of being cut down.

6. When you looked in the mirror this morning what was the first thing you thought? “Fuck, that’ll do.”

7. What shirt are you wearing? It’s my “I can’t be arsed to try” dress. Still looks presentable, but it’s really just comfortable.

8. What do you label yourself as? Exhausted.

9. Bright room or dark room? Bright. Creates more space, and lifts your mood.

10. What were you doing at midnight last night? I think that I was watching The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as though my life depended on it.

11. Favorite age you’ve been so far? Eighteen. I had no real responsibilities, I had friends who I thought were good at the time, and I could drink and drive - not at the same time. But the thing that I really miss the most is how confident I used to be. I genuinely believed in myself, and never considered the possibility that things wouldn’t be ok.

12. Who told you they loved you last? That will be my mum.

13. Your worst enemy? The friend who fucked my ex. That wasn’t the main problem that I had with her though, she’d gently bully me and put me down in front of other people. It was so subtle that it was difficult to prove or explain, but whenever I met her, I always came away feeling worse about myself.

14. What is your current desktop picture? The piano in one of the music rooms in Bristol.

15. Do you like someone? Yes, but it will never amount to anything.

16. The last song you listened to? Ginuwine’s “Pony”. Practising my stripper moves.

17. You can press a button that will make any one person explode. Who would you blow up? I don’t think that I could pick just one person.

18. Who would you really like to just punch in the face? Oh, a colleague at work. She basically picks who she likes and then is a complete cunt to everyone else. But the set of people who she is nice to includes my manager, so it’s difficult to raise.

19. If anyone could be your slave for a day, who would it be and what would they have to do? A little boring, but it would be good to have someone to develop my skills for free. So someone like Einaudi to help me with my piano, or like a really established photographer, songwriter, or the entire Dutch korfball squad.

20. What is your best physical attribute? (showing said attribute is optional) Oh fuck me. I think that my eyes are alright.

21. If you were the opposite sex for one day, what would you look like and what would you do? I think that I’d probably get bullied. I’m fat and below average looking, and men are so mean to each other about their appearance that my own friends would probably rip into me about it constantly.

22. Do you have a secret talent? If yes, what is it? It’s pretending that everything is ok, and then having spontaneous meltdowns.

23. What is one unique thing you’re afraid of? I’m not sure how unique it is, but confrontation. I’ll do just about anything to avoid it, which is easy for people to abuse.

24. You can only have one kind of sandwich. Every sandwich ingredient known to humankind is at your disposal. Chicken mayo. I’ve never had a rubbish one.

25. You just found $100! How are you going to spend it? I’d put it in the bank, donate it to charity, or towards my crippling debt.

26. You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world, but you have to leave immediately. Where are you going to go? New York. There are lots of places that I’d like to see, but I’ve always wanted to see what it would be like to live in New York, if only for six months.

27. An angel appears out of Heaven and offers you a lifetime supply of the alcoholic beverage of your choice. “Be brand-specific” it says. Man! What are you gonna say about that? Even if you don’t drink booze there’s something you can figure out… so what’s it gonna be? Strawberry & Lime Rekorderlig. Can’t get too drunk on it, but it tastes delicious.

28. You discover a beautiful island upon which you may build your own society. You make the rules. What is the first rule you put into place? Something to do with your success being directly proportional to how hard you work. It really upsets me how far you can get in life just by knowing someone.

29. What is your favorite expletive? Oh, it’s cunt. It just has the perfect level of impact.

30. Your house is on fire, holy shit! You have just enough time to run in there and grab ONE inanimate object. Don’t worry, your loved ones and pets have already made it out safely. So what’s the one thing you’re going to save from that blazing inferno? Probably my laptop, you know. Most of my other possessions are replaceable, but my laptop has things life photos, music etc.

31. You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be? Easy: university. Wish I’d never gone.

32. You got kicked out of the country for being a time-traveling heathen who sleeps with celebrities and has super-powers. But check out this cool shit… you can move to anywhere else in the world! New York. That’s where everyone with super powers goes. Or if I could go back in time as well, I’d go back to just before the slave trade and kick whomever came up with that idea in the nuts.

33. The Celestial Gates Of Beyond have opened, much to your surprise because you didn’t think such a thing existed. Death appears. As it turns out, Death is actually a pretty cool entity, and happens to be in a fantastic mood. Death offers to return the friend/family-member/person/etc. of your choice to the living world. Who will you bring back? Fuck, that’s difficult. Three people come to mind.

My auntie, who died from cancer last year. It was so unfair and there was no justice whatsoever, and it really took a toll on my mum. But at the same time, if bringing her back meant that she still had to live with cancer, that wouldn’t be the kindest option.

The second option is one of the lads in my year group, who died in a car crash the year before (I’m growing to despise November). He was a good friend of mine who pretty much made high school for me, but when he died, I was left with an overwhelming sense of guilt from not having kept in touch with him after we left school. But two lads died in the crash, and to have only one of them survive would be incredibly cruel.

And the third is my cousin who died several years ago, aged fifteen. I’d only met him once in my entire life, but he was wise beyond his years, and was always eerily calm about everything. I wish that I’d gotten to know him more. I think that I’d bring him back, because he was taken way too young, and he really did have everything ahead of him.

34. What was your last dream about? It was really stupid. Some guy deliberately crashed into my car, and then just shrugged and said: “insurance”. I have no idea what to take from that.

35. Are you a good….[insert anything you’d like here]? I think that I’m a good singer. I’m nothing special, but the fact that I can sing in tune seems to go down really well at karaoke. It’s all relative though, compared to actual singers, I wouldn’t say that I’m good.

36. Have you ever been admitted to the hospital? Like a trip to the hospital that wasn’t planned? I don’t think so.

37. Have you ever built a snowman? You know something, I’m not sure if I ever actually have. I imagine that I would have gotten bored before I finished, or my parents wouldn’t have bothered with that nonsense.

38. What is the color of your socks? Not wearing any at the moment, but usually black.

39. What type of music do you like? That’s difficult. My style ranges from cheesy 90s to filthy dubstep to beautiful pieces on the piano, to dramatic movie soundtracks. At the moment, I’m really into the likes of Bruno Mars’ new album, which is all old-school 80s hip hop.

40. Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets? Sunsets. The sky looks amazing, and I imagine that it would be nice if you had company.

41. What is your favorite milkshake flavor? Not huge on milkshake, but it would probably be strawberry.

42. What football team do you support? (I will answer in terms of American football as well as soccer) Ah, I really wish that I cared about football, it seems like a really good thing to be a part of. I’d either take Newcastle like everyone else up here, or Man U, like my brothers.

43. Do you have any scars? Nothing cool.

44. What do you want to be when you graduate? Fuck if I knew that, I wouldn’t be the emotional fucking mess that I am today. Either something to with analysing figures and trends, or something in the third sector, where I can genuinely help people. Or if I knew that I couldn’t fail, a singer, photographer, writer, or all three.

45. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? The colour of my skin. I don’t care if I should be proud to be black, I just know that I’d be treated a hell of a lot better if I were white, and have less to fear as well.

46. Are you reliable? Yep. Always on time, loyal, and never broken a promise.

47. If you could ask your future self one question, what would it be? “Will I be ok?”

48. Do you hold grudges? Oh HELL yes. But contrary to what people think, it’s never just because of one thing that someone has done. It’s usually a build up of stuff so the grudge is a very long time coming.

49. If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature, what new animal would you create? Something like a dolphin and an eagle. But only as long as I knew that the dolphin could survive out of water.

50. What is the most unusual conversation you’ve ever had? It’s not the strangest conversation that I’ve ever had, but it’s something that has always stuck in my mind. This.

51. Are you a good liar? When I really need to be.

52. How long could you go without talking? Not very long at all, I talk to myself. Back at school, I did manage a sponsored silence for a day though.

53. What has been you worst haircut/style? Just my hair as it is now. At that awkward stage where it can’t yet be relaxed, but it’s too thick to control. I might put it in braids again.

54. Have you ever baked your own cake? Yeah, but it would have been for food tech back at school.

55. Can you do any accents other than your own? I can do a really exaggerated Nigerian accent. My family is Nigerian, so I know how it sounds, and I know how to make it sound funny.

56. What do you like on your toast? Just plain butter usually, but I always forget how canny jam is.

57. What is the last thing you drew a picture of? Probably a penis.

58. What would be you dream car? Oh son, the BMW i8. Or if we’re going really big, some kind of Lamborghini or McLaren.

59. Do you sing in the shower? Or do anything unusual in the shower? Explain. I definitely sing in the shower, not sure how much further I can explain though.

60. Do you believe in aliens? Definitely. We’ve only seen a small part of the universe, and there’s no way that we can be the only inhabitants out there.

61. Do you often read your horoscope? Every now and then actually, but I don’t take them seriously.

62. What is your favorite letter of the alphabet? Q, because of how much damage it can do in Scrabble.

63. Which is cooler: dinosaurs or dragons? Obviously dragons.

64. What do you think about babies? Not all of them are cute, unfortunately.
