Playground AU but the children are powerful supernatural creatures that just so happen to be children the parents drop off so that the poor caretakers have to deal with.

Grian and Pearl are avian fledglings, are are always seen digging up and eating bugs from the playground. They don’t have enough feathers to fly, but just enough to glide, and their love of heights makes it a common occurrence for them to start climbing on the bookshelves and tables.

Gem and Lizzie are fae creatures, and are from different courts. Gem is from the Summer Court, while Lizzie is the heir to the Spring Court. They have this… really creeping unblinking stare that bore into your soul. They trained the small animals from the nearby forest to attack people, and have on multiple occasions, let a bear try to maul someone.

Scott is a unicorn satyr. He can create rainbows, is always photogenic, and can heal minor wounds. What’s the issue you may ask? Scott will more often than not, waltz out of the building, plop down in the soccer field and begin eating the grass. He’s also very fussy about his clothes. One time a tree branch tore his clothes, so he used his horn to set it on fire, causing a minor forest fire.

Scar and Cub are vexes and are basically the twins from the shining. Always at the end of a hallway, asking for something. They also are entirely carnivorous, so they sneak out into the forest, find the nearest wild animal (squirrel, bird, a god forsaken wolf at one point), kill it and just… eat it. Blood gets everywhere, and both use the blood and viscera as art supplies. Scar once gave Grian a bird’s head, covered in glitter, stabbed on a stick covered in a mixture of blood and paint.

Joel is an ogre. He’s also quite temperamental. He’s also egregiously strong for his age and once threw an entire desk out the window. He often gets into fights, and has difficulty controlling his strength. He has currently destroyed a window, 2 desks, 4 chairs, 1 door, 12 bathroom doors, several paintbrushes, a wall, a concrete wall, a metal and wooden baseball bat, and the monkey bars.

Skizz and Impulse are an Angel and a demon respectively. Their true forms are enough to make anyone faint or go temporarily insane, and they can control the ambient temperature around them. Their clans are at constant war with the other, despite the two of them being extremely close, and whenever their parents pick them up, the two families immediately start fighting in the parking lot.

Bdubs is a sandman. He’s able to make dreams literally materialize out of sand, and he uses this to create giant sand kaijus, tanks, dragons, monster trucks, and even a castle, all made up of sand. He also has a bad habit of sleeping in the most weirdest and convoluted places in the school. They once found him on the school’s intercom system sleeping peacefully.

Etho is a boogeyman. He is a living nightmare, able to meld into the shadows themselves and cause horrific nightmares. Unfortunately, due to his inexperience with these powers, he often just ends up tripping into someone’s shadow or unleash a torrent of spiders into the classrooms. Did I forget to mention he’s made up entirely of spiders?

Jimmy is the token human. He’s just a dude who’s entore class is made up of the supernatural. He’s well liked, but often starts or gets roped into one of his classmate’s shenanigans. He’s also chronically unlucky, causing him to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He breaks a bone at least once a year and is a regular at the nurse’s office.

This is getting long so I’ll just list off the rest: BigB is a creaking dryad, Cleo is a zombie (duh), Tango is a blazeborn, Ren is a werewolf, Martyn is an oracle, Mumbo is a vampire, Zedaph is a jabberwocky, and Doc is a… goat cyborg thing.

I made an updated version of my life series spreadsheet for Secret Life! This season officially adds Gem to the cast. I also added a new category for Limited Life since Gem and Lizzie subbed in for Cleo and Pearl respectively for one episode.

Context: It can be confusing to figure out who is in which seasons, especially when you’re just starting out and only know a couple of people. The first names are their usernames, so that’s what will come up in chat for death messages or achievement messages. The names in parentheses are what the other members will call them. Solidarity’s name is Jim/Jimmy, but there’s a running bit where some of the other members call him Tim/Timmy, which is why he has so many aliases. Happy binge watching!!

Overanalyzing the skin changes:

The session started at 3 pm EST and according to Jimmy, was only scheduled for 3 hours.

Before 3:00, the first batch of people changed their skins, including Scott, Cleo, Bdubs, and Tango. All of them switched to a zombie skin (or in Cleo's case, a human skin) and then instantly changed right back to their latest Wild Life skin. Martyn and Skizz also both changed to zombie skins (though Martyn changed at 3:04) and did not change back.

Then, between 4:05 and 4:15, the second batch of people changed. Scar, Grian, and Pearl all switched to zombie skins then changed right back within a minute or so. Joel cycled through like 6 different skins from 4:10 to 4:15 (ending on his Etho soulmate skin), but did not put on a zombie skin. I think there was probably a break here, being about an hour into the session.

BigB changed to his creaking skin at 4:23, and Joel changed to his pool floaties skin at 4:27. (No longer an Ethogirl, did he get betrayed?)

The next wave came at 5:15. Lizzie, Impulse, and Jimmy all switched to zombie skins, but did not switch back within a couple of minutes like everyone else had.

Then, Gem changed into a zombie skin at 5:26, then switched into a red life skin a minute later (she'd been wearing her yellow skin previously). Then finally, Joel and BigB changed into zombie skins at 5:38 and 5:56 respectively and immediately switched into normal skins a minute after. Several other players also switched into normal skins following 6 pm.

Ren never put on a zombie skin, only wearing a skin he'd dedicated to Martyn from ~2:20 on. And Etho of course never changed his skin.

So what does all of this mean? Well, I think the zombie skins are a massive troll and indicative of (almost) nothing that happened in this session.

The quick changes before 3 and around 4:10 wouldn't have had any impact on the game, just confuse NameMC watchers. Gem could've switched to her zombie skin when she was switching to red anyways. And Joel and BigB's switches could've happened after the session was over, as the final session doesn't have to go to 6.

Mumbo never changed, so Skizz and Martyn swapping seems like them joining in on the joke, rather than actually joining the session. Also Martyn's change happened a tad bit late, when the session would've already started.

Overall, feels like staggered changes meant to confuse, with Joel going overboard, Gem swapping at an opportune time, and maybe BigB forgetting until the session was already over.

The only unexplainable part is that Jimmy, Impulse, and Lizzie went zombie at 5:15, 5:16, and 5:17 respectively, and stayed that way. The only reason I can think of for that is perhaps, people were divided up into groups and meant to swap briefly to zombie skins every hour or so. But for the last swap, I'd guess there was no break, so only already-dead players changed. Perhaps Ren and BigB were meant to be part of that last batch and were preoccupied with the game, so they never changed until too late? Gem as well, was probably on the run until she went red.

Anyways, I've spent far too long thinking about this. Can't wait to find out I was completely wrong when the videos come out!

Can I just say, finding Empires/Hermitcraft/Life Series after leaving the Dream SMP has been so nice?

It feels like there's been so much less pressure to watch every POV. I've watching all of the life series through Scott's POV (save for limited life and double life, which I also watched Cleo and Pearl's POVs respectively) and that feels Okay.

I watched season 8 and partially season 9 of hermitcraft through Pearl before beginning Cleo's season 9 and Doc's season 8 (thinking of watching Gem for season 10) and that's Okay

Empires, I've seen Pearl's partially, but all of Scott's, Fwhip's, Joey's, Sausage's and Lizzie's. And that's Okay.

Even in terms of shipping, it's been so much fun enjoying Scosage in Afterlife, Scarian in 3rd Life, Treebark in the life series in general, both Scarian and Grumbo in Hermitcraft, Doc and Ren in Hermitcraft 8... There's probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Hell, even whatever happened with Iskall was resolved so quickly.

It's just been so. Nice here.

I won't say the fandom is perfect by any means, no fandom is, but what I am saying is that I'm glad I one day went "I wonder if LDShadowLady still makes videos" and going from there. And for PearlescentMoon for finally giving me a fellow Australian to enjoy. And for Goodtimeswithscar for being a fellow disabled person to enjoy.

People don't like gem because they just want to use the life series to ship their favorite guys together. People barely tolerate pearl and cleo and it really shows. Some of yall just hate women because you don't want your ships between the guys to be interrupted and it's showing. Gem lizzie pearl and cleo deserve a lot more respect then yall give them.

Dipping my toes back into gemcyt for a sec so I could do a real quick sketch for a Fairy Fort fusion

I was going also going to do a Shadow Alliance fusion (Lizzie, Ren, BigB, and Martyn) to go with it, but perhaps another day 👀

General Story/Design Ideas Under the Cut:

This place is then known as: The Fairy Circle [The Garden]

Design:

It was really hard finding a stone that I thought would fit. I eventually found the anyolite (ruby in zoisite) and decided to remove the ruby. Originally, their color palette was leaning more Alexandrite, but that's already a fusion in SU canon and I don't want to mess with that too much.

Overall, I was thinking along the lines of a fairy knight, a forest guardian of sorts. The cape and fur collar are meant to resemble a moth and the horns from Cleo are formed to look closer to antlers.

Story:

After the events of pseudo-3rd Life, Lizzie, Ren, BigB, and Cleo find themselves separated from the other gems and are unable to reconnect. Finding it more safe for themselves to stay put and wait for an eventual rescue, they create a sort of safe haven/nature reserve where they spend most of their time generally tending to the wildlife.

During their time in the Garden, Lizzie and Ren learned to better understand each other and began to grow closer. From their disdain of the other Diamonds and the structure of Homeworld to their respective missing halves, the Garden has done wonders in allowing them to see eye to eye. Accompanying their respect for each other is a fondness that wasn't quite there before, as their bond has led to an almost codependent friendship.

On the other end, Cleo and BigB are just generally polite with one another and are mostly amicable. They understand that they must all stick together if they are to find their lost companions, but neither have particularly latched onto the other with that same desperation that Lizzie and Ren have.

Something or other happens (most likely an argument where Cleo wants to leave and conduct a search of her own and the others don't) and BigB ends up poofing Cleo. Her gem is damaged heavily in the altercation and when she reforms, she is furious. The betrayal leads to Cleo essentially destroying The Garden and leaving on her own to find the others.

pearl could be a sparrow person or a human shepherd figurine (not sure on it rn) but her army of dogs could either stay (ceramic) dogs or be little caterpillars. she guards the sunflower patch

bdubs would make a great stoat/other mustelid, though the way he keeps his houses so specific reminds me of a little beatrix potter dormouse

martyn is a boggart like in spiderwick chronicles, he likes making messes and mischief and leaving thumbtacks on chairs when he gets into your house

skizz seems like he'd be a little garden statue of a knight, something to match his chivalry, maybe he's a fountain statement piece

cleo seems more like a Lost Thing, like she's a barbie that got left in the dirt by the previous owner's child that you dig up when you're trying to plant carrots

jimmy is a canary that escaped from his cage one day and never looked back, he would tell stories about the inside of the house and the giant watching things that would have him sing for them but his voice is hoarse now so he doesn't sing anymore (and that's his choice)

etho is a fox. no notes i love that interpretation

rendog is a little action figure who got lost like cleo but remembers the child who would turn him into a tyrant king whenever he was played with

grian is a male cardinal (because the red obv) bird person who's a bit of a daredevil and who hits windows quite a bit

It's Gem and the Scotts' dream to perform with Ariana Griande. They don't know that Ariana is Gem's sister. Or rather, her brother.

So when Grian accidentally lets it slip that he's Ariana Griande to Lizzie and Jimmy, the two of them try desperately to keep the secret from their respective partners. And don't do a great job.

Scott finds out almost instantly, and Lizzie tells Cleo, who doesn't know Gem doesn't know.

Scott isn't sure if he should be more upset with Jimmy for the more pathetic secret keeping he's ever seen, or himself for not realising. Now he's stuck pretending he doesn't know, which is even worse! (He lovingly teases Jimmy about it every opportunity he gets. There's a lot of giggling and dramatic overreactions.)

Gem is unsure what to think. How do they go about arranging a collab now? It seems weird to chase her, uh. Own brother. And she'd prefer she told her himself!

Both Gem and Scott near collapse in relief when they discover they both know about it. Now do they curse Impulse with that knowledge...

Secret Life if everyone had only one life

Most health losses remain the same as they were accidents: mobs, heights and generally being a little dumb.

Scott never stops Jimmy and Scar from talking as Jimmy has done severely better in this continuity never being out first, maybe he even joins in the conversation for a while before walking off.

With Third Life being completely different Scar never gives Grian the cactus monopoly as that has no significance. Perhaps he gives him sugarcane as Double Life has taken Third Lifes place as the birth of Scarian? Thinking about it Scarian would probably be referred by fandom as Bamboo duo or Panda Duo having been created in Double Life.

Session 1 remains basically the exact same for everything else mostly, same for most of session 2.

Martyn still goes to the Nether and is killed by the piglin, he is the first player out of the game.

Session 3 is where the changes start...

Joel doesn't reroll his task for a hard one as failing would basically mean being extremely close to being out, so he sticks with the deja vu task...which he likely fails as its a task that realistically I can't imagine someone being able to do at all without luck... This means he doesn't die failing the bucket clutch.

Jimmy still dies to the drowned and is out second, the big dogs never happen for obvious reasons. Gem still dies to an enderman while trying to do her task and is the third player out. Lizzie still dies to a skeleton on the water slide and is the fourth player out.

Martyn Isn't there to guess Tango's task so he likely succeeds, he gets 3 hearts and 7 items.

Grian's session 4 task is different as there are no yellows, the same is applied to all tasks that are based on the green-yellow-red life system from here on out, each of them has been slightly changed. In this case he simply needs to convince anyone that singing is his task, which he succeeds. This is easier as it allows for more people to be target but harder since It's harder to be sure you have fooled them without them calling you out as a yellow life...so it evens out. He still joins Cleo and Etho later.

Martyn is also not there to make Scar's life more miserable as he can't cause him to fail, Scar succeeds getting 6 hearts and 4 items.

Etho also never gets his task from Martyns suggestion so aHa Etho never happens.

The same that happened to Grian applies to Skizz, Skizz likely fails either way.

Lizzie is out so she also never makes the paths which means movement across the server is technically more difficult. Also Scotts task is likely failed without Lizzie.

Importantly, without Gem and with everyone having only one life they can't risk the dragon is likely never slain and Bdubs fails his hard task losing 10 hearts.

Without Gem there is also no tower off so no questionable mounder towers, Mumbo never climbs the now Gemless Scotts mountain to judge which is tallest and never falls to his death in the process.

BigB's task is different as stated before, so he probably doesn't betray the heart foundation. No trust issues this time around.

Tango and many others also never lose lifes because there are no red life tasks. Cleo race against Gem is also not a thing which means Cleos task is to simply get people to hand their doors.

Joel can't use Jimmy or Lizzie to target Scott (aka basically two of the few people willing to) so he likely fails his task.

Bdubs is still pushed in the zombie pit by Scar, Mumbo still falls in lava, Skizz still dies to something as his health is extremely low and BigB still dies while fighting the wither. They are fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth out respectively.

With only one life Grian likely doesn't run in front of the wither to press the button, he doesn't die yet... however he does likely have extremely low health so he probably dies against the wither anyway. He's the ninth player out. (Or eight if he dies before BigB)

Scott has the charisma to still complete his task without Gem, so he does. Scott also has 1 heart, he probably dies even without trading his life to Martyn.

Gem is already out of the game, there is no boogeyman/zombie apocalypse in session 7 so ... nobody dies, not even Tango who is never killed by BigB's dog as BigB is out and is later also not killed by the non existant zombie army.

There's also no Angel Jimmy as Grian is out of the game and can't get the task.

At this point in time there are 7 players left in the game: Pearl, Joel, Impulse, Cleo, Etho, Tango and Scar.

Everyone also has very little hearts each as there have been no respawns... Which means when that creeper explodes next to Pearl...she probably doesn't survive it, tenth player out, 6 to go... Knowing Joel erratic behavior gets worse without his teammates he's likely to accidentally kill himself sometimes soon... 5 left.

The last 5: Impulse, Tango, Cleo, Etho and Scar. I can see Impulse and Tango working together... Seeing the weird competition between Scar and Heart foundation I think Tango and Impulse target and kill Scar, 4 left...

Cleo does the nice vs naughty thing, I don't think she gets to kill anyone but I think someone kills them in response... Maybe dogs if she's accidentally punched... 3 left.

With Impulse working with Tango I think they work together to kill Etho putting him in third leaving those two to fight for the win as the finalists... I think Impulse has a higher chance to win...just slightly, the difference isn't that severe, but I think in this case Impulse wins.

The winner of secret life is Saturn.

Good news: we finally know why c!Martyn fell off between his win in Limited life, and then his recent placements in Secret life and Wild life!

Bad news: Not angsty enough.

Worry not, for I have already thought of three (3) alternative reasons for why Martyn fell off the way he did!

(disclaimer: this post is NOT meant to signify that Eyes and Ears is a bad AU by any means. I respect the decisions that Martyn makes (as much as I wanna toss this man into a wall sometimes), but I decided to give this one thing my own little spin, since I've already been thinking about it for a while. Enjoy!)

These headcanons are placed in a particular order: 1 fits pretty well into EaE AU and technically could be canon if Martyn likes it ig?, 2 is a pretty neutral one that could fit into any AU or interpretation (+ is the closest one to what Martyn said on his lore stream, but a little different) and 3 is one I personally use in my own AU, called Preservers AU, or The ones who watch, the ones who listen, the ones who kill AU (WLK for short).

1. Martyn got fucked up the same way Cleo and Pearl did in Double life.

While doing research into EaE and watching Limited Life lore stream a while back, one particular thing caught my attention. As you may remember, in session 6, Cleo and Pearl were absent and Gem and Lizzie came to fill in for them. I really liked what Martyn lored there - the idea that Double Life messed up with them so much (especially Pearl, but Cleo too) that even after "resting" in the eternal fuckass void that the Watchers throw them into (the void has no name, so may I propose the name I use in my own AU - The Midway, as in the middle of the way between different worlds) they weren't quite in the right mindset to enter the games again - hence, for example, Pearl talking about Tilly in ep 1 of LimL. So, their souls got snached by the Watchers, threw into the void like into a microwave when you need to heat up your food for just a minute longer, and their conciousnesses were replaced with Gem and Lizze's.

And what if the same should've happened to Martyn?

Let's be honest, winning this series messes everyone up, especially if it ends by you backstabbing the only person who was nice to you the whole season (+ some random guy who just happened to be too close to your sword). Especially if we take into account the interpretation that Martyn got briefly possessed by the Watchers as he killed them ("time is delicious" yada yada yada, we know what you are sir). I can totally believe that this win messed with him enough that at the beginning of Secret life, he was still a bit woozy, a bit disjointed. That would explain him being the first yellow, first red, as well as ending up in the bottom half of the leaderboard for the first time. Funny how he was still the only person to never fail a task, I guess even when fucked up by the Watchers he still has his 300 IQ.

But why didn't the Watchers snatch him during Secret life and put him back into the aforementioned void? Cuz they like torturing him too much and they were like "naaaaaah he'll be fineeee" (he wasn't). Or, they wanted to, but they accidentally snatched the wrong blond guy (aka Tango) (just like in Wild life, they mixed up their blondes again and got Martyn killed before Jimmy).

2. The nihilism route

Martyn's explanation during the lore stream was that c!Martyn, after he won, stopped caring about his performance and decided to chill out a bit, hence him doing worse and worse each subsequent season. But c'mon dude, where's the angst? So I propose a slightly changed version.

You go through four painful, draining, exhausting death games. Each time you die too early to reach your goal. You see your friends die, and you die painfully as well. Until one day, it happens. You win, you kill everyone. You're ecstatic, now you can fix everything, free everyone, change everyone's fate and be free-

And then you're tossed into a new game. All your happy murder time didn't matter. You're right back where you started. Not to mention, the one you were fighting for isn't around, still. So what do you do? Wallow in sorrow, of course! You're all stuck and you're all fucked! There is no escape! Nothing matters! (/neg)

So yeah what Martyn said but make it sadder

3. The Watchers hate you, personally (spoilers for my AU! + if it sounds stupid out of context I'm sorry)

So I'm no stranger to writing horrible fates to characters I really like (and unfortunately that includes c!Martyn, this guy is just too fun to mangle repeatedly). In my AU, after a win, each player is granted a singular wish from the Watchers - and that wish is twisted into a sick version, making up the new game. WLK!Martyn, the nosey bastard he is, asked to know everything about the Watchers - all their secrets, all their knowledge, how to defeat them. Watchers said "bet" and in return, gouged out his eye and replaced it with their own, "lending" him some of their powers (with the side effects being migraines, insomnia, being flashed with horrifying visions, throbbing pains in half of his skull and falling off in general). So uh yeah, guy that loses an eye in such a fashion and doesn't have any time to recover will probably have a hard time placing high again.

It could also be made into a non-WLK version where the Watchers mangled him in some other way. Sorry Listeners but you can't save your boy from that, he too far gone
