anyone else constantly searching for disability-focused fanfics?
WELL I MADE A GOOGLE DOC!
Over a hundred fanfics centered on disability (physical, IDD, mental illness, neurodivergence, and more!)! All in one place! Titles, authors, link, and summary all written out - you don't have to click on them to see the summary! Sorted by fandom! Almost 30 different fandoms! Over a hundred fics! Constantly being updated whenever I find more!
As someone who is physically disabled, I spend a lot of time searching for fics centered on disability. They tend to be very difficult to find, only from a few fandoms, and often... not great representation. So, finally, I decided to make a list of them!
The majority are about physical disability. I've done my best to find any focused on intellectual and developmental disability, but there aren't many of those because there just aren't very many of them. There's also quite a few focused on neurodivergence and mental illness, and those are highlighted in light blue. My personal favorites are highlighted in light purple and marked with a star emoji.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GIVE ME MORE! I am constantly looking for more fics centered on disability! I will take any fandom!
#disability#fanfic#fic rec#ao3#ao3 fanfic#notable#iconic#physical disability#neurodivergence#mental illness#i spent a WHILE on this and am constantly adding more when i find them#also if you're the author of any of these and want me to remove them just let me know#i also partially made this because i do not understand how collections work on ao3 and they scare me.#i'm planning on adding short explanations of each fic#(and what kinds of disability are in each)#(and trigger warnings)#but i haven't done that yet

Hi everyone! I would like to ask you to share this post if you can. My friend Charlie is facing a difficult financial period, and asked if I could share their Etsy and Ko-fi, where they sell jewellery and zines!
Charlie has been creating some cool zines lately that you might want to check out. Some of them are informative and educational, while others are more light-hearted. They are a mix of drawings, text, and collage. You can find hardcopies on Charlie's Etsy store or digital copies on their Ko-fi.
There are currently nine zines available, covering topics such as disability, trauma recovery, top surgery, and whether or not resident cat Kira farts (I think she's innocent).
Charlie also makes really cute jewellery - bracelets, earrings and necklaces. They are so colourful and gorgeous! You can find those on the Etsy store as well.
I cannot recommend Charlie's creations enough and the Etsy reviews concur. :)
I'm going to leave some images under the Keep Reading for those who would like a preview without clicking on a link. :) If you like them, definitely check out the rest of them! But I'll add a video of Charlie talking about their zines above the line.
You can find Charlie on instagram here.
Thank you for reading and please share! ❤️
instagram
also saying hello to a few lovely people who might be interested in reblogging? maybe? no obligation of course, feel free to ignore :) @thatveganwhiterose @loversarcanas @onehandkilling @stupidsexyflanders @nohugsgiven
#mutual aid#disability#transitioning#trauma recovery#top surgery#transmasc#trans#non-binary#lgtbqia+#etsy#ko-fi#zines#jewellery#cats#animals#vegan#(fyi mutual aid tag because that is the tag that I use for when we help each other out)#(transmasc tag bc that's the kind of top surgery we're talking about; Charlie identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns)#(vegan tag bc Charlie is vegan and you can be assured that what they're making is all vegan-friendly)

Everytime I see discourse about kink or nudity at pride I get reminded of the time I went to pride a few years ago with my mother and my sibling- who was 17 at the time and is somewhere on the ace spectrum- and about halfway through, the march went under a gatehouse. Some inhabitants were sitting in their open windows watching the parade. Right before we crossed under them, one of them decided to just... take her shirt off. She wasn't wearing a bra. And you know what happened? People whooped and cheered, and then kept walking. That's it. And there were kids around!! They didn't care. My sibling didn't care. My mother, a cisgender heterosexual woman in her 50s, did not care.
This stuff stops being such a big deal when you go offline. It was basically the same amount of boob you'd see in any perfume ad. No one was like 'what about the children?' And if you didn't wanna see it and looked down, no one would've called you a puritanical prude for that. And it helps to remind myself of that everytime I see kink at pride discourse getting rehashed because at actual pride, people don't care.
#pride#kink discourse#lgbtqia#lgbtq#kink at pride#something DID make my mom uncomfortable later. and it was a bunch of gay guys in front of us making homophobic jokes at each other#she went 'i know they're gay so it's technically hamless but i just don't think it's right'#so it's not like she's some kind of radical liberated queer activist or anything she's just your average liberal parent#and she did not care about this! at all!#to be clear discomfort with sex in an amatonormative society is perfectly fine and normal#'disgust has no ethical weight' goes both for what triggered the disgust response and for the person having the disgust response#and i think i also want to say to those people who don't want to be labeled 'puritans' but can't help the discomfort#i've found people are generally also a lot more gracious about THAT irl#if they aren't being told 'leave' but 'let's make sure you can ignore this and have a good time'#most people who aren't assholes will be receptive to that#i think maybe queer people could stand to learn from disabled people and the way they deal with conflicting access needs#for example allowing support animals excludes people with allergies#you can't get around that by declaring either of these groups unwelcome you have to find a balance#and try to help as many people as you can while compromising

sorry if you've already been asked this but what did you think about eiji in iw? like idk i feel like they were trying to recreate a masato and ichi moment without actually having any of the elements that made their relationship narratively compelling.
as a whole, i thought eiji was at least a nice 'how he wished things couldve been' for ichi in regards to masato, but still being independent enough from the masato comparison to stand on his own as a character (or at least as an antagonist. his actions wasn't what was reminding me he was a masato parallel, but more so ichi's insistence he help him). i think thats why ichi and eiji's relationship don't have the same 'elements' that make their relationship interesting like masato and ichi's
#iw spoilers#not really but lol#snap chats#like what made masato and ichi interesting was their family dynamic and how they were narrative foils to each other#eiji isn't supposed to be that. both in-universe and meta wise he's just meant to remind ichi of masato not wholly replace him#and not replace who masato was in ichi's life. just yk. trick him for a bit fJALKAJ#i mean sure you can still find their relationship uninteresting with that in mind so just to me i thought it was cute at the very least#at least in that you can see ichi trying his hardest to connect with eiji#like you can tell he just doesn't want history to repeat even if he's mostly projecting his fears onto eiji#and the situation is not. equivocal LMAO but i digress#i don't feel strongly about eiji one way or another- i mean i liked how it was easy to tell he was going to be an antagonist vjlKJAJ#i dont mind that kind of thing though. i like being able to pick up on things being Not Right with a character or situation#so it was neat seeing how that culminated. still confused on what he was blackmailing chitose with but i assume it's family related#sometimes i think about how beau says eiji and ebina were meant to be rgg feeling bad about killing aoki and it makes me chortle vjalkvjla#anyway thats the end of my eiji prattle. oh ps i like how he actually had a chair that doesnt look painful to sit in#veyr cringe he turned out Not to be disabled but listen if i start talking about masato's disability again im gonna lose my mind#as i frantically close my thirty tabs about lung diseases/conditions and lung transplants and patients' anecdotes post operation

Sighs. Am trying to make dinner (on one foot, mid migraine, in a horrible flare up) which my sister said she'd help with. She did a few things (washed the carrots, cut up the beets which were supposed to be whole) and then said i clearly had it under control and went back to the computer. Still have tons left to do. Have no energy and am not even hungry.
#feels like the more help i need the more literally everyone is like. hm. good luck with that. and then they leave#especially doctors but also my sister as well#i know she's not my caretaker ! am well aware !#just kind of dont understand the lack of reciprocity. i take care of her whenever she's sick#asked her to pick up my last couple meds from the pharmacy#which is attached to the store she was going to anyway and was like 'dont bother if theres a line but if there isnt one could you ?'#after she just saw me struggle massively on my crutches when we got coffee this morning#and she said it wasnt good timing and she didnt know if people can even pick up meds for each other#they definitely fucking can bc ive picked up her meds plenty#anyway am out of my migraine meds entirely and really have zero hope of getting them for the next while#at least until i can walk on my right foot i guess#just feel. what's the words. frustrated and abandoned and alone. and too fucking disabled.#chronic illness#complaining

"Omg I can't stand when people try to use the intersectional feminist argument to include men. Like when they ask if a homeless man can be misogynistic to a rich woman. I'm just worried for the (poor helpless weak females) homeless women AROUND him!!"
So you just suck at intersectional feminism. Okay.
#Jean rambles#The bioessentialism. The genderessentialism. Y'all are so close to getting the point#Like. Sure okay let's look at a homeless encampment that has men and women (and for the sake of argument - no genderqueer people of any kind#On a purely gender basis yeah sure there are risks for misogyny#But what about the racial aspects of the encampment. What about the religious aspects. Hell what about the economic aspects#What about disability - physical or otherwise - aspects. What about age aspects. What about family aspects.#There are SO many goddamn aspects to look at in just this one hypothetical homeless encampment#That can determine and influence how people there interact with each other#Especially given outside influences such as police and civilians#If you only focus on the most cis-centric gender binary perspective of this hypothetical homeless encampment#Then you just suck at intersectional feminism. I'm sorry but you do. You just suck at it#Get better and do better before thinking you can pull a seat up to this table#And yeah. Obviously these different aspects can fall on the women too#A homeless muslim woman is highly likely to experience a tougher time than a homeless white christian man#But then the homeless latino man with a physical disability is highly likely to have a tougher time than a homeless white woman with-#No disability at all#It's not about who is more oppressed or any of that shit#It's looking at all the pieces that make up a whole and seeing the issues that can come from some of those pieces#One of the biggest points of intersectional feminism is to not make the oppression olympics#It's to give a voice and a name to the tool that's being used to beat countless of us into the dirt

*twirling my hair* do you like cassandra cain? if not, do u have a moment to hear about our lord and saviour cassandra cain?
CASSANDRA CAIN MY LOVE!!! She's definitely the batgirl I've read the most in terms of full issues, the first 30-ish issues of her solo by Kelly Puckett Scott Peterson and Damion Scott had me hooked and I binged them but fell off after Horrocks came on (nothing against him, he was just given an editorial mandate to make the book more romance focused and it turned me off because it felt so ooc for Cass to me lol. I do own some of the issues he wrote tho! I like the ones with art by Rick Leonardi). I'm not really caught up with modern comics (ish??) And I'm not reading anything dedicatedly but I hear she's in a new original book teaming up with a magic user? Neat! Good for her. I love her in the shadow of the batgirl graphic novel (IT'S SO GOOD)
#ramblings of a lunatic#asks#^ sorry had to be tistic about things for a minute#i loved damion scotts artwork for her solo series sm (especially the later moee stylized stuff even though i recognise how bonkers-#-the proportions are i can't help myself. i like women and i love stylised art like that)#his stuff was surprisingly influential on my own art. idk how much it shows these days but It's There#this hasn't mentioned anything about what i love about cass as a character but like. it's the same as most people who love her man#i love her self destructive dedication to redemption i love the guilt she's saddled with-#-and how it's juxtaposed with her committment to kindness and justice i love how she's the fucking best and she knows it#i love how the relationship between her and oracle was an intergenerational mentorship between two disabled women#and her gay ass bond with stephanie (who in all fairness may be my fav batgirl???-#-but I've also read wayyy less complete issues of her compared to cass due to the differences in how their respective series' are-#-formatted but like. what i have seen i tend to love. i love u stephanie)#but also dear god i do not wanna get reeled back in because nothing the industry ever does will please me the way the ideas in my head do#and I'm constantly at war with myself reading stuff#also it's just hard to get back in when you've been gone with a while it's all just very difficult#but i am rotating cass and stephanie in my brain like a microwave waiting for someone to explode#plenty of people smarter than me have already said this but cass should team up with jason and they should both seethe#he wants to kill. she keeps breaking his bones if he tries it. they're both brushing each others philosophies off bc of where they exist-#-on the batfamily ''kill/no kill'' binary even though they share similarities of wanting to be batman but Better#(jason via controlling crime and killing criminals and her with her ultimate dedication to the symbol and superior combat skills)#(also keep in mind i just watched utrh but haven't read a rhato comic in yonks. so if this is an outdated jason characterization+#-then whoopsie <3)#Jason's dedicated to pushing buttons and poking holes in batmans philosophy and cass is great at reading ppl-#-and sometimes in her series she then performs a limited psychoanalysis of them and tears them apart#(at least she did for shiva) I'd love to see her do that to jason. break him so i can tape his sad lil ass back together#this is getting away from me. anyway no need to proselytise. I'm a former alter boy round here

Ok but seriously
We got a little bag of pretzels, bc craving smth sweet and missed em, ykyk?
MOTHERFUCKIN SHIT DID NOT HAVE ANY SPACE IN THE SEAL TO OPEN IT!!
I tore it off AT the spot it had marked to tear at. *I had to get my bestie to fucking open it for me.*
He used his teeth to tear it open.
I've never had to struggle with a tear off seal THIS much.
(Also this isnt a "oh the part you're supposed to tear at doesnt exist", like the little cut isn't there. It was there, it was easy on BOTH sides. And even when I tore down through what I'd expect to be a now-open seal, nah. NO air pocket, and trying to pull the bag open didnt work bc 1) the plastic was so rigid and hard to grip 2) even when I got a grip, it was actually just like super-glued shut.)(this doesn't discount the fact that having no tearaway part of the package at all is ALSO bullshit. Had that more often and would get scissors to cut my own.)
I also dont know a term but it makes me think of the whole planned obsolescence type shit, which is just deliberately setting up your product to FAIL within a set period of time so consumers have to buy more.
But this is just like. Actual sadistic packaging. I am ALL for accessibility in any way because FUCK do companies and people higher up NOT care. But like. I'M ABLE BODIED AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NOBODY SHOULD HAVE TO STRUGGLE WITH JUST TO FUCKING EAT!!
I lowkey feel like it's also kinda similar to anti-homeless measures, like the stuff that's meant to hurt or inconvenience the lowest class because they can't afford anything better (like benches that you're not able to sleep on or spikes, which is also cruel and sadistic and unnecessary).
Like. Oh, you can't afford the good food? Can't afford the tools to open our cheap shit? Can't microwave it? Tough shit, now go sit and die in the cold streets.
It feels like it would just be subtley attacking disabled and low-income people. Which yk. Also tends to overlap.
Let's talk about what I like to call ranch bottle inaccessibility (inspired by wrestling with a ranch bottle to get the seal off) (please tell me there's a real name for this) which is inaccessibility with packaging. Ten thousand rubber bands on toy packages, freshness seals that are impossible to get off, water bottle caps (fuck water bottle caps). They're so hard for disabled people (and children at that, why can't kids open their own toys without help?). It's pissing me off. Having to have help opening water bottles, using can openers, destroying my teeth since I was little to open toys and candy packages.
#sepiasys.rblg#inaccessibility#The very fine age of violent capitalism pretty much.#Thinking about the candies in twisted plastic wrappers that you can pull the ends and they untwist <33#I wonder what the most accessible forms for each type of thing is when it comes to packaged or canned stuff#Pull tabs probably the most accessible for cans but sometimes they're fucking assholes to pull up.#How do we feel about juice boxes; lads? /silly/lh Like yeah u stab a thin plastic but sometimes thats easy (not caprisun type pouches)#There's also like. naturally a kind of conflict between accessibility and the cost of it (environmental and/or financial)#Cost; accessibility; impact. pick two.#Specifically: cheap; easily/widely accessible; harmless. thats probably as close as I can get to what ur choosing#Also I'm not 100% on able-bodied bc yeah I live normally but my daily life is low stress; low effort; and thus low pain#But I will claim I am until I feel like I have enough proof that l I'm basically physically disabled in some way.

I need to finish my barry berkman "where the red fern grows" themed fanfic. hm.
#he's in jail and he meets one of my ocs in jail#WHICH SOUNDS CRINGE#but it’s like very thematically relevant idek what I'm saying#and there's stuff about dog metaphors#and having people waiting on the outside#and the military and child endangerment#anyways#they’re both autistic and tall and violent and would end up in a california prison#dennis is in on charges of literally abducting a child lollllll#but of course the situation was complicated and dennis was actually a very good dad#they're kind of opposites of each other in some respects#like dennis wasn't allowed to enlist bc he has diagnosed autism and a dissociative disorder#but he was socially expected to enlist#and he's been living with disabled vets for the past like decade#anywayyyyyys I'm rambling#and I should actually write the thing

Free Manual Wheelchair Reference Models
ID: A banner with grey 3D models of 5 kinds of manual wheelchairs in a line in front of the disability pride flag and text that reads "Manual Wheelchair References" /End ID
For disability pride month, I decided to release a pack of 3D manual wheelchair models.
The pack includes 5 wheelchairs:
2 Active urban-style chairs (one of which includes a smart drive)
1 off-road active chair
1 children's wheelchair
and 1 standard "hospital" wheelchair).
All the wheelchairs are based off either wheelchairs I or friends of mine have used
Downloadable here!
or on the Clip Studio Paint Asset Store (ID 2097442) (there's been an issue with the CSP version, but the models in the download folder can be imported into clip studio paint until I can fix it)
More info about the download contents below:
The first download link includes the original .Blend file with all 5 chairs, as well as individual .obj or .fbx files the chairs (All but 1 have an .obj file, as they're only meshes. The chair with the smart drive is rigged, which is why it has an .Fbx file instead so it will retain that information) as well as a "read me" file that explains in more depth what kind of disability/character/lifestyle each chair is made for (These are just what I had in mind when I designed them, they are usable by other characters who don't fit the suggestions for the most part!) I wanted to include the Read Me contents in the CSP Asset Store listing, but CS said it was too long lol.
Also, as the title says, these files are free to use! While it's not mandatory, I would appreciate credit if you use them (or even just a tag so I can see the cool art you make with them!!)
I actually made these ages ago, the original plan was to use them in a series of posts then release the pack, but I never got around to making the series and so they've just been sitting here. I took a day off from art fight attacks to clean them all up and get them ready to post. If you experience any issues, let me know and I'll try to fix it up.
I had a couple more that were supposed to be in the pack including a sports (basketball/Tennis) wheelchair and some different styles of wheelchair, but I think the files corrupted so once I fix (or remake) them, I'll probably make a second pack.
If you have any issues, please let me know!

i can’t stop thinking about this weird little storm chaser AU my brain dreamed up where bill&ted are the POV characters but crucially not the main characters but the problem is that I truly don’t know anything about storms and I worry I’m not smart enough to understand if I do start researching LOL
#N posts stuff#like i have a vague fascination with storms but in largely esoteric/magical thinking ways VS scientific#but for some reason the idea is really sticking: full AU no Unite the World plot points#but they started off bc Liz and Jo wanted to photograph / video some storms as an art project thing#and bill and ted tag along to drive the van for them; and then instead of being a one off they just. keep doing it#and along the way somewhere they pick up Station — just two nonverbal dudes here — who are in it for the Science of it#and then background characters include Rufus and Kellye who man a radio station that focuses on reporting weather or whatever#and they pass along info to each other and they’re friends (weve also been very fixated on Radio lately)#and maybe the crux of the Main Meat of the fic is that Billie and Thea are also big on storm science and are finally old enough to start#tagging along on chases instead of being sequestered out in a shelter with either bill or ted (the other drives solo)#and there’s like. tension about it of the ‘it’s dangerous you’re supposed to do as i Say not as i Do’ variety#conflicting with how much the parents understand about how important it is to the girls#bill and ted being the POV means Technically i don’t necessarily have to Understand a lot bc they probably wouldn’t either#but to have all the other characters engage in coherent conversation we need to have a solid grasp of all the technical shit lol#and unfortunately i’m not the kind of writer who is willing to spin a yarn and make stuff up about it#but i also haven’t really Successfully studied any hard sciences since. uh. high school; most of what i read is nonfiction but it’s also all#like. ‘softer’ sciences — sexuality and disability and on and on ; storms and especially storm Chasing is a lot more technical i think

(taken from a post about AI)
speaking as someone who has had to grade virtually every kind of undergraduate assignment you can think of for the past six years (essays, labs, multiple choice tests, oral presentations, class participation, quizzes, field work assignments, etc), it is wild how out-of-touch-with-reality people’s perceptions of university grading schemes are. they are a mass standardised measurement used to prove the legitimacy of your degree, not how much you’ve learned. Those things aren’t completely unrelated to one another of course, but they are very different targets to meet. It is standard practice for professors to have a very clear idea of what the grade distribution for their classes are before each semester begins, and tenure-track assessments (at least some of the ones I’ve seen) are partially judged on a professors classes’ grade distributions - handing out too many A’s is considered a bad thing because it inflates student GPAs relative to other departments, faculties, and universities, and makes classes “too easy,” ie, reduces the legitimate of the degree they earn. I have been instructed many times by professors to grade easier or harder throughout the term to meet those target averages, because those targets are the expected distribution of grades in a standardised educational setting. It is standard practice for teaching assistants to report their grade averages to one another to make sure grade distributions are consistent. there’s a reason profs sometimes curve grades if the class tanks an assignment or test, and it’s generally not because they’re being nice!
this is why AI and chatgpt so quickly expanded into academia - it’s not because this new generation is the laziest, stupidest, most illiterate batch of teenagers the world has ever seen (what an original observation you’ve made there!), it’s because education has a mass standard data format that is very easily replicable by programs trained on, yanno, large volumes of data. And sure the essays generated by chatgpt are vacuous, uncompelling, and full of factual errors, but again, speaking as someone who has graded thousands of essays written by undergrads, that’s not exactly a new phenomenon lol
I think if you want to be productively angry at ChatGPT/AI usage in academia (I saw a recent post complaining that people were using it to write emails of all things, as if emails are some sacred form of communication), your anger needs to be directed at how easily automated many undergraduate assignments are. Or maybe your professors calculating in advance that the class average will be 72% is the single best way to run a university! Who knows. But part of the emotional stakes in this that I think are hard for people to admit to, much less let go of, is that AI reveals how rote, meaningless, and silly a lot of university education is - you are not a special little genius who is better than everyone else for having a Bachelor’s degree, you have succeeded in moving through standardised post-secondary education. This is part of the reason why disabled people are systematically barred from education, because disability accommodations require a break from this standardised format, and that means disabled people are framed as lazy cheaters who “get more time and help than everyone else.” If an AI can spit out a C+ undergraduate essay, that of course threatens your sense of superiority, and we can’t have that, can we?

I keep thinking about all of the disabled activists and people before me who stranded themselves on the 4th floor of buildings for weeks and crawled up stairs and fought with airline staff and schools and doctors and refused to stop existing in the face of injustice and bigotry no matter how big and scary and hopeless it seemed. Every time I get angry and scared the protests that lead to the creation of the ADA pop up again and remind me that disabled people are so much fucking stronger than anyone has ever given us credit for, and I can't help but be proud of that. And I know not all disabled people feel like we should take pride in our disabilities and have flags or whatever, but I think not just living, but thriving, in spite of a world that wants us dead and gone, in the face of both illness and persecution, and how we've not only bought ourselves forward, but uplifted the disabled people around us, secured more equal futures for everyone who will come after, and truly changed the way so many abled people have seen us for the better is something to be damn fucking proud of.
We have always been here and we always will be, there will never be a world without disabled people because being disabled is not bad, it's a natural part of the human experience and yeah it sucks some times but even when it sucks we have fought to build beautiful, unique, happy lives with people, both like us and not, and that should be celebrated.
The first sign of human civilization is the healed femur. The body of the profoundly disabled person who would have needed help to even just eat being carefully laid to rest after decades of a full, happy life. The medicinal plants showing even before we were entirely human we were doing what we could to not just survive, but alleviate suffering while we're at it. Above everything, evolution selected not the baby who can walk and eat and be quiet, but the one that can ask for help.
Disabled people are not just angry cockroach motherfuckers who refuse to die, we are proof of humanity's HUMANITY. Proof that natural selection selected a species that takes care of each other. From healed femurs and medicinal plants to vaccines and IVs and insulin to now, we are driven to help one another, we are at our strongest when we don't leave our most vulnerable behind. And I am living proof of that. My mother is living proof of that. Every disabled and chronically and/or mentally ill person I know is living proof of that.
And I don't know about the rest of you, but will carry that shred of humanity's true nature inside me like it's my fucking soul. I am scared and angry and hurt, but I have a lifetime's experience being scared and angry, and I can shake off the kind of pain that would make Atlas crumble to dust like it's nothing but a stiff fucking breeze. Disabled people have always been here, turning fear and anger and pain into joy and beauty and connection, and I'm not going to let everyone who came before me down. I'm not going to give up. Not now, not ever.
It's okay if you're disabled and you've hit your limit, you're too scared and tired and hurt, I won't blame you. But I won't abandon you, either. I might not be able to right all of the wrongs in the world, but I'll be strong, I'll carry all of you with me, I will not give up.
As I've said before, society hates a cripple who won't die, so we must spite them and live anyway.
Please, live anyway. I know if anyone can, it's us.
#there that's my thesis about all this hope it helps#abled people can reblog this btw#pls support the disabled people in your lives they need you#us politics#us election#just for the blacklist#current events#cripple punk#cpunk#disabled#disability justice#disabled liberation

how do you feel about a heavy portion of communists being ableist? sending disabled people to prison for being physically unable to work and then acting like that didn't happen doesn't make disabled people confident that communism won't hurt them just as bad as capitalism (I'm not saying billions of trillions dies from communism I'm just saying ''those who won't work won't eat'' is fucking evil especially when I see that rhetoric in modern day! You can say 'oh a wheelchair user can do teaching or archiving' but that ignores how many disabled people are bedbound or fully paralyzed!)
ARTICLE 12. In the U.S.S.R. work is a duty and a matter of honour for every able-bodied citizen, in accordance with the principle: "He who does not work, neither shall he eat."
The principle applied in the U.S.S.R. is that of socialism : "From each according to his ability, to each according to his work."
[...]
ARTICLE 120. Citizens of the U.S.S.R. have the right to maintenance in old age and also in the case of sickness or loss of capacity to work.
This right is ensured by the extensive development of social insurance of workers and employees at state expense, free medical service for the working people and the provision of a wide network of health resorts for the use of the working people.
This is the USSR's 1936 consistution, emphasis mine. Not a perfect constitution by any means, but this is very clearly antithetical to what you believe happened. Disabled people in my own country today have less rights and even less guarantees of those rights being respected. Again, the USSR was not perfect and I'm not saying it was. But you're ascribing willful malice that is embedded in marxism to circumstances that were not easily circumvented. The USSR was an imperfect state lacking in sufficient social protections, which came from times of feudalism without any kind of protection in any aspects save for the nobility, and whose collapse led to unparalleled misery and war. "He who does not work shall not eat" never included disabled people. It's a slogan, and slogans are not nuanced. What the USSR never did was enshrine that slogan into law literally, it always explicitly addressed able-bodied people.
Let's also look at a more modern constitution, Cuba's, from 2019
ARTICLE 42. All people are equal before the law, recieve the same protection and treatment from authorities and enjoy the same rights, freedoms and opportunities, without discrimination on the basis of sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, ethnic origin, skin color, religious faith, disability, national or territorial origin, or any other condition or personal circumstance that implies a harmful distinction before human dignity.
All have the right to enjoy the same public spaces and establishments.
Likewise, receive the same salary for the same work, without any discrimination.
The violation of the principle of equality is outlawed and is sanctioned by law.
[...]
ARTICLE 64. The right to work is recognized. The person in condition to work has a right to obtain dignified employment, corresponding to their selection, qualification, aptitude, and economic and societal requirements.
ARTICLE 65. Every person has a right for their work to be compensated as a function of its quality and quantity, expression of the socialist principle "from each according to their capacity, to each according to their work".
[...]
ARTICLE 68. The person who works has a right to social security. The State, through the system of social security, guarantees their adequate protection when they are unable to work because of age, maternity, paternity, disability, or illness.
[...]
ARTICLE 70. The State, through social assistance, protects the people without resources or refuge, not capable of working, who lack family members able to bring them help; and to families who, due to the insufficient income they recieve, if they so choose, in accordance with the law
I don't see anywhere a part that says all disabled people are jailed. Cuba definitely does have effective and real protections for all kinds of disabled people, and just like the USSR, the principle of the duty to work is not applied directly to disabled people. It's hard still to find information on the practical application of disability protection that's not funded by Radio Free Whatever, but here's an article about Cuba's:
