“The Artificer’s campaign has little impact on the overall story” bitch I cannot stress how much of an impact the Artificer had on the entire world. You just need to pay attention to some things.

By the time of the Artificer, Scavengers are basically in the middle of a massive golden age. They have a Chieftain (with a mark of communication (maybe Five Pebbles gave them the mark and citizen ID drone and tried to use them for something but they rebelled and found Metropolis)) with armour made from Red Centipede Scales, they have a permanent home in metropolis above the rain, they figured out how to harvest electrical scrap and broken down Rarefaction Cells from the ruins of Looks To The Moon and pieces of Five Pebbles to make electric spears and Singularity Bombs, they even have specially trained Elite Scavengers, which did exist before in the time of the Spearmaster but it’s still worth bringing them up.

Overall, Scavengers are at a golden age of invention and life in general.

And then they anger the Artificer, who slaughters countless Scavengers, kills their Chieftain and drives them out of Metropolis, locking the gate behind them.

After that, a new Chieftain is never made, armour like the chieftain once wore is never made again, Scavengers suffer a massive population loss, they can’t enter Metropolis without a Citizen ID Drone and Elite Scavengers slowly disappear as the methods used to teach them and the knowledge of how to scavenge and create electric spears and singularity bombs is lost, with the last Elite Scavengers being seen in the Hunter’s campaign, which happens next in the timeline. In other words, the Artificer literally sent Scavengers into a dark age.

It takes until the time of the SAINT for Scavengers to show real signs of recovery, now appearing in larger numbers than before. And even THEN Scavengers never do anything like they did during the time of the Artificer. The Artificer plunged Scavengers into a dark age for countless years, and they STILL haven’t recovered.

And that’s not all. According to the wiki, Scavengers are afraid of Slugpups, most likely because they remember how the last time they killed one they were hit by the full force of an angry explosive lobbing goddess of destruction that slaughtered countless members of their kind. They are afraid of Slugpups in all campaigns, even the Saint’s. So even by the time of the Saint Scavengers know not to mess with Slugpups, presumably because the last time they did so is a legend among Scavengers by that point in time.

Hell, the Artificer’s existence even explains something about the Hunter. The reason that the Hunter starts with a negative reputation among Scavengers is because they look like the fucking Artificer. Scavengers look at the Hunter and see the goddess of vengeance and destruction that they’ve only ever heard of from stories.

Both of them have red fur and a scar on one eye, and will the time gap between campaigns, there’s a good chance that only a few Scavengers that saw the Artificer in person are even alive by that point in time (without even taking into account how the Artificer murdered so many Scavengers that it’s probably rare that a Scavenger saw them and lived to tell the tale), meaning that the Artificer is probably told about in Scavenger stories and her appearance would therefore differ, leaving the most obvious details like the scar on one eye and red fur.

            “This school is a respected institution that has produced elites who form the mainstay of Great Britain. Our generation cannot afford to defile the tradition that has been protected for thousands of years since the founding of this school! For the history of Weston College is the history of England!” said Bluewer, desperate to prove that he, Redmond, Violet, and Greenhill had done the right thing.

            Ciel narrowed his eyes before closing them as if exhausted the situation. “…Fine.”

            Sebastian and (Y/N) glanced at Ciel.

            “I was investigating this incident…under the orders of a certain distinguished personage. I can’t keep silent now that I’ve uncovered the truth,” said Ciel. “However, I shall request measures which will take your circumstances into account.”

            (Y/N) raised a brow. They wouldn’t interfere with Ciel’s decision—what happened to the P4 was none of their concern—but they disagreed with giving lenience from the outset. If these four were so noble, they would take the punishment they were given. If the situation gave them a lesser punishment, then very well, but (Y/N) found no sympathy for them.

            However, there were other issues with people (Y/N) did have some connection to—positive and negative—to handle which were much more pressing.

            “Now, that just leaves you.” Ciel narrowed his eyes as his attention went back to Undertaker. “What are you after?!”

            Undertaker smiled as he picked up a cupcake and leaned on his other hand. “You have bestowed upon me plenty of laughter so I will explain for old times’ sake.”

            “It was only for a moment, but Derrick was conscious beyond a doubt,” said Ciel. “He was clearly different from the previous reanimated corpses. No! He has evolved!”

            Undertaker munched on his cupcake. “It pleases me to hear that! Quite so. The dead can also advance by way of episodes.”

            “Episodes?” Sebastian furrowed his brow. “Do you mean the counterfeit memories you have created? Connecting them to the Cinematic Records of the dead was how the corpses began moving.”

            “Guess again.” Undertaker pouted and crossed his hands in an X. “You’re close, though. Those memories were gibberish. The current corpses are being moved by their longing for the future.”

            “Humans recall their pasts in their final moments. That is their cinematic record. At the same time, they crave the future they were to have had although those futures are incomplete. The fragments of those futures comprise their episodes.”

            (Y/N) narrowed their eyes. “I did not experience such longing.”

            Undertaker grinned. “You took your death into your own hands and welcomed it with open hands. You threw away your future with a vengeance. Of course you experience no longing. You reveled in revenge.” He laughed. “And, as ever, you prove an interesting exception~ Quite the inspiration~.”

            (Y/N)’s eyes flashed fuchsia at his continued focus on their mortal life. After he pushed them through their memories once more, they were fed up with it and itched to return the favor of pulling him away.

            Sebastian’s eyes narrowed at the playfulness with which Undertaker directed his quips to (Y/N). He disliked the familiarity with which Undertaker addressed them. He had already said he reaped their soul originally, and Sebastian despised that degree of “closeness” Undertaker could claim with them—even if it was such a moment as death.

            “But I digress.” Undertaker tilted his head and leaned on his hands. “What if those episodes could be extracted? What if several tens of thousands of cuts can be had? What if the total length of the linked episodes was longer than their Cinematic Records?

            “It’s akin to a future forecast. They are memories of the future, nothing like my counterfeit memories. If I connect such a thing to the Cinematic Record—do you not agree that what will be perfected is a reanimated corpse infinitely approaching a living human?”

            Undertaker grinned at the horrified expressions of the humans and the narrowed eyes of the (Y/N). “Weeeeeell, the probably of success is still very low as it is dependent on the quality and quantity of the episodes.” He shrugged. “I still can’t approximate other ways of returning to life.” He grinned at (Y/N). “Eh?”

            “I have no shred of mortality. The person I was died in every way,” said (Y/N), speaking with an icy, sharp tone. “These experiments are your attempt to perfect what will always fail.” Whatever he was planning, whatever his end goal was, whatever experiments he was planning, (Y/N) didn’t like it. To mess with nature itself was to invite twisted magic. It would never end well; something would break, whether it be the experimenter or the experiments.

            “Oh?” Undertaker grinned. “Perhaps for now. But I wish to look beyond the fated end.”

            “Beyond the end?” said Ciel, furrowing his brow.

            Undertaker flipped the top hat onto his head. “Has it ever occurred to you that something exceedingly amusing may unfold beyond the roll of the credits?”

            Sebastian smirked and raised a brow. “I disagree with you on that point. ‘Death’ is an absolute end. That is why I find it—” his eyes turned fuchsia “—most beautiful.” He gazed at (Y/N). “What do you think? You are the one who experienced it.”

            “To disturb the process of death would be to disturb nature,” said (Y/N). They narrowed their eyes. No one was quite understood how humans became demons as it was so rare, but they knew it wasn’t continued life so much as rebirth into something new. “And you invite your own ruin when you do so.” They had been a witch; they understood.

            “How poetically put~” said Sebastian, smirking.

            Undertaker tutted and stood. “This is all I can tell you with the compensation I have received. Well, then.” He grinned. “It would be a nuisance if certain bothersome individuals were to discover my whereabouts. So I shall be going now.”

            “I won’t let you escape again!” shouted Ciel. “Capture him, Sebastian!”

            “As you wish!” Sebastian ran forward.

            The moment he lunged for Undertaker, Agares ran between them and grabbed Sebastian’s hands. His scholarly cap fell from his head, and (Y/N) saw the stitches—he, too, was reanimated.

            “So, you too, were a corpse, Vice Headmaster Agares,” said Sebastian, narrowing his eyes. “That must be why I felt a sense of discomfort then.”

            (Y/N) grabbed Agares and forced him back with Sebastian, but above them, Undertaker jumped onto the hedge wall.

            “That one is replete with episodes and is my crowning masterpiece, for now,” said Undertaker.

            (Y/N)’s nose twitched, and their eyes turned fuchsia. So Undertaker was planning more. What is he working towards?

            Undertaker snapped his fingers, and human hands burst out of the ground. The humans let out a gasp and cry, and (Y/N) and Sebastian narrowed their eyes as the reanimated, simply bizarre dolls of Derrick’s friends dragged themselves out of the ground.

            “These are Derrick’s accomplices!” said Ciel.

            “Run!” Edward was instantly focused on survival after the attack on the Campania. “Leave this garden now! Hurry!” He supported Greenhill on his shoulders.

            Ciel opened the garden door, and the prefects and drudges ran for escape. Harcourt was knocked down by one of the accomplices, who loomed over him.

            “I-I can’t move!”

            “Come on!” Ciel grabbed his arm and pulled him away.

            Undertaker chuckled as he watched. “He may have inherited the Phantomhive blood, but he’s quite unlike his predecessors. Most, anyways.” He tilted his head in amusmenet. “Don’t you agree?”

            (Y/N) and Sebastian narrowed their eyes; Undertaker’s connection to the Phantomhives was quite strange.

            “What a riot this is!” said Undertaker.

            “My, my, you are quite carefree about all this,” said Sebastian. “Do you believe you can stop us with something like this?”

            “How dare you underestimate us like that,” said (Y/N), a cat-like grin flitting across their features.

            Undertaker grinned. “I’ve never underestimated you. I know not to.” His eyes flicked to Sebastian. “All that sets us apart are our goals.” His eyes slid to (Y/N) and Ciel again.

            Sebastian’s eyes widened as Undertaker smirked, and his entire body went into alarm mode. If he brought down Agares now and then sought to capture Undertaker, then Ciel would be left open to attack or (Y/N) would be, and after seeing (Y/N) bleeding in his arms, Sebastian would do anything to avoid that.

            So as Undertaker looked at (Y/N) and Ciel, Sebastian’s desire to protect his contract and his love overtook his need to follow Ciel’s orders—Ciel’s life took precedence, and he could ignore the order (and, fortunately, protect (Y/N), too).

            Sebastian bent backwards and slammed Agares’s head into the ground. His brain was crushed, and he stopped moving. (Y/N) shifting to jump towards Undertaker, but Sebastian’s heart thudded, and he grabbed (Y/N)’s waist.

            “Wha—Corvus, let me get him!” hissed (Y/N).

            “No, Felis,” said Sebastian, leaping towards Ciel. (Y/N)’s eyes widened at the tone.

            Undertaker chuckled as he ran in the opposite direction. “Just what I’d expect from you, Master Butler~” He knew Sebastian would choose to protect Ciel under the contract and (Y/N) due to his heart. It was ever-so-entertaining to Undertaker.

            “Sebastian?!” said Ciel as Sebastian landed in front of him.

            Undertaker landed on the wall separating the outside world and Weston College. “I do hope you’ll continue to protect the Phantomhive house so loyally.” His voice was remarkably somber compared to his usual melodramatics. It still lilted with amusement, but there was something more. Posing beneath the moon as if he held it, he cackled and shook his head. “Fare thee well!”

            He flipped away and disappeared into the night.

            “Corvus, put me down!” snapped (Y/N).

            “Sebastian—” Ciel spoke at the same time.

            “Stay behind me!” said Sebastian, putting (Y/N) down but pulling them close while he grabbed another reanimated corpse’s head to push him back.

            “Sebastian, why did you come to me?!” cried Ciel. “I ordered you to seize—!”

            Sebastian cut Ciel off. “By the terms of our covenant, your life is my first priority. I have gone to great pains to cultivate you.” He looked back at Ciel with shining fuchsia eyes. “I cannot afford to have him steal you away.” His eyes went to (Y/N). “I will not allow it.” Sebastian crushed the skull of the corpse.

            (Y/N) stared at him as blood flicked across his cheek, and they felt a hunger develop. As much as they were frustrated at Undertaker escaping—they wanted to run after him and teach him how unpleasant experiments could really be for all his amusement—(Y/N) saw Sebastian’s protectiveness and pure devotion. He had only been able to move due to Ciel being in danger, but that didn’t change the adoration in his eyes as he gazed at them, the dark, demonic love that spoke of his willingness to spill blood in their name.

            And (Y/N) loved it.

            “Aaah….” Harcourt fainted upon seeing the corpse’s head crushed, and the moment of silence was broken.

            Ciel jumped and examined him. “Hey!”

            “You should let him sleep,” said (Y/N), stepping up to Sebastian’s side. They were a team—a pair. “There is still much cleaning for us to attend to in the wake of this Midnight Tea Party.”

            It didn’t take long. With Derrick, Agares, and one accomplice dead, Sebastian and (Y/N) had only three corpses to take on. A mere moment was all that was needed for the demons.

            Ciel looked around at the bloody garden. “Dear me. How am I going to explain all this to Her Majesty?”

            “Why not give her the facts as they are?” said Sebastian, pulling on fresh gloves. “Tell her that a ‘perverse, erstwhile grim reaper is reanimating the dead.’ ” He took (Y/N)’s hands and removed their gloves to give them clean ones.

            “And that we have no idea what he is planning in the long run,” said (Y/N).

            Ciel huffed. “She’ll never believe—”

            “Ciel!” Edward pushed the door to the garden open and reappeared. He had a sword in hand, ready for danger. “Everyone’s escaped safely…” He trailed off as he looked at the corpses. The situation had already been handled.

            “We’re done here, too,” said Ciel. “Watch your step.”

            “I will.” Edward looked down and paused. His gaze hardened, and he gripped his sword tightly. “Ciel.” The earl glanced at him. “It frightens me to no end that I might have ended up like those prefects, too…” Edward gritted his teeth and narrowed his eyes. “That I might have become a man who deludes himself into thinking that the sin of murder is equal to justice!”

            Ciel looked at him. “Don’t worry. Consider yourself normal, if it scares you so. Unlike me.”

            (Y/N) looked between Ciel and Edward. To see the Aristocrat of Evil looking at the Midford, a knight of justice, made (Y/N) tilt their head. Humans were so complicated, and, despite their darkness, (Y/N) was very much aware that there was more than just good or evil in their hearts. There was Ciel’s desire to serve justice to those that law cannot touch, and there was Edward’s desire to resist tradition brainwashing his thinking. There were grey areas.

            (Y/N) understood those.

            They had existed within them as a mortal. They lived within them now—no good or evil, just Felis.

As Donald Trump recovers from an assassination attempt and Republicans head to Milwaukee for his coronation this week, the GOP elite has rallied around a new messaging strategy: emotionally blackmailing Democratic politicians, journalists, Hollywood celebs, and numerous other Trump critics into shutting up about the former president’s openly authoritarian vows and his extreme policy agenda. Since the deadly shooting at a Pennsylvania rally Saturday, prominent conservatives have been working to blame the incident on Trump’s enemies for labeling him a “fascist” and for fanning heated “rhetoric” that, in their telling, caused the would-be assassin to shoot at the former and perhaps future American president. “When the message goes out constantly that the election of Donald Trump would be a threat to democracy and that the Republic would end, it heats up the environment,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said Sunday, adding: “It’s simply not true. Everyone needs to turn the rhetoric down.” 

Two of the finalists on Trump’s vice presidential shortlist quickly blamed the assassination attempt on talk about his authoritarian plans. “The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs,” Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) wrote Saturday night. “That rhetoric led directly to President Trump’s attempted assassination.” Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said the attack on Trump was “aided and abetted by the radical Left and corporate media incessantly calling Trump a threat to democracy, fascists, or worse.” 

Top Trump ally Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday he had been “worried about this for a very, very long time,” adding: “You know, if he wins, democracy is not going to end. He’s not a fascist. He represents a point of view that millions share. The rhetoric is way too hot.” These messages are all part of a deliberate strategy. Within the first three hours following the failed assassination of the presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee, three sources close to Trump were already feverishly detailing to Rolling Stone how Republicans could use the shooting to their political advantage — whether for potentially mammoth fundraising, propaganda about Trump being “tough” and a “fighter,” or attacks on Democrats as belonging to the actually violent party every time they bring up things like the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot that Trump instigated.

The attempt on Trump’s life does nothing to change the reality that he is — in fact — running on an openly authoritarian platform. Trump and his closest allies are pledging to punish President Joe Biden and other top Democrats and jail his political opponents; unleash the National Guard and active-duty troops on Democratic-controlled cities whenever he wishes; end the Justice Department’s independence so he can use it to crush his foes, shut down his criminal cases, and erase any hope of accountability for his alleged crimes; retaliate against media outlets that cover him negatively; deport pro-Palestine protesters; oversee an unprecedented crackdown on immigrants, potentially erecting a vast network of camps on U.S. soil; further institutionalize his anti-democratic lies and conspiracy theories that led directly to the Jan. 6 attack; and even invade and bomb Mexico if he feels like it. Trump has quite literally pledged to be a dictator on “day one.” He later reiterated that he intends “to be a dictator for one day” — arguing such power would be necessary to erect a border wall and “drill, drill, drill.” On the campaign trail, the former president has evoked the rhetoric of Adolf Hitler, accusing immigrants of “poisoning the blood of our country.”

Trump allies are seeking to make Democrats and the non-right-wing media say “Uncle” to force them to stop talking about Trump’s record of dictatorial conduct, fascism, and divisiveness in the wake of the assassination attempt Saturday against him.

I say hell no to surrendering to their dreams of silencing us and instead continue to warn about the real danger to our democratic systems Trump and his acolytes are.

Nightmare's main colour throughout his life are somewhat poetic (in a likely unintentional way) if you squint.

I mean it.

As a child, he wears mainly purple. It is a colour generally associated with royalty and, to some extent, magic, whimsical things. While the latter really fits Nightmare, with his studious persona and all, the other ones can be taken into account.

So, the historical time when he was born is somewhat ambiguous — it might both be when the monarchies rose or when they fell, and even anywhere inbetween. But, if we think it's the latter, then purple, the colour of royalty, likely started having a negative connotation. It was all about the upper class, after all.

This is something fun which I do not know whether it's true, but apparently, in European Disneylands, they don't use purple to talk about their magic and stuff. Because it has a bad connotation (something fun about said connotations is that they're apparently about "arrogance, introspection and mourning." It simply fits Nightmare so WELL). BUUUT, purple was also a colour that was really about the elite. The richest of the rich could wear that thing (and honestly, isn't it fun to think about what being wholely clad in purple made the villagers back in Dreamtale think? ).

Isn't it so fun that Nightmare, while letting go of purple to taking black as the ""colour""(black is a tone)(yes, Cross is only monochromatic if you consider the red scar[I have a peeve with this. He's achromatic. If he's bleeding, suddenly he's monochromatic????]) that best describes him went from one colour, wich was once about the rich and then given strong negative meaning to another one that once had awful meaning to the colour of executive's cars and tuxedos and ties? He is enveloped by the hate others feel towards him, and, in that process, he finds parts of himself in that hate.

Uhhh,,, anyways,,,, regal Nightmare for the win or something like that???? I also think that a really neat writing strategy is to use colour instead of name when u writing Abt something and u don't really know what they're all about,,, so,,, uh,,, yeah,,, I could rant a lot more about why one character is a specific colour.

On RAMCOA, Satanic Panic, and the dangers of conspiracy theory

Lately I've seen a term gaining usage in online DID/OSDD communities, and I would like to talk about its origins and implications.

I want to establish right away that while I do not believe in RAMCOA or SRA, I do believe that these people are genuinely traumatized.

This is not written with the intent to invalidate anyone, rather I am legitimately concerned about the negative impact this is having on survivors of severe trauma as well as marginalized people targeted by conspiracy theories.

Let's begin with what RAMCOA is, and where the term comes from.

RAMCOA stands for ritual abuse, mind control, organized abuse. The term has its origins in the ISSTD, with the creation of their special interest group (SIG) dedicated to the topic. The ISSTD, which began in 1982, has a long history of controversy and is in no small part responsible for the beginnings of the Satanic Panic.

Multiple significant parties of the ISSTD have made claims of transgenerational Satanic cults dating back to two thousand years.

Michael Salter, who would eventually become the chair of the RAMCOA SIG in 2018, claimed in 2008 that there were secret tunnels and chambers beneath the school to facilitate the abuse. This claim was not only disproven, but it is reminiscent of both the Satanic Panic and Pizzagate-era allegations, both of which have also repeatedly been disproven.

Michael has continued to assert his claim as recently as 2019. In 2023, Michael Salter would become president of the ISSTD.

But Michael isn't the only sketchy person involved in the ISSTD. Founding member and former president George Greaves would lose his license for engaging in sexual activity with his patient in 1994.

Bennet Braun, the founder and another former president, has faced multiple malpractice lawsuits due to misleading his patients, resulting in distorted memories and more harm done to an already vulnerable person. Braun’s license would be revoked in 2023.

Also accused of malpractice by multiple patients is Colin Ross, president of the ISSTD From 1993-94. Ross is also known for his claim that he can shoot energy beams from his eyes. This, unsurprisingly, was disproven.

In 2020, the RAMCOA SIG was renamed to the Organized and Extreme Abuse SIG due to the optics of the term no longer suiting the organization.

We have established that the ISSTD was founded and consistently led by conspiracy theorists and abusive psychologists who have since had their licenses revoked. Let's dig a bit into the Satanic Panic and SRA.

The Satanic Panic is a moral panic that began in the 80s and still goes on today. In recent years there has been a resurgence of the same rhetoric taking new forms, but it all has roots in allegations of Satanic Ritual Abuse. The Panic of the 80s properly began with the publication of the book Michelle Remembers, written by Lawrence Pazder and his patient-turned-wife, Michelle Smith.

The text contains an account of SRA recovered through the pseudoscientific modality of recovered-memory therapy. The claims in this book have no substantial evidence and are generally regarded as a work of fiction influenced by social morality and pop culture at the time.

Over 12,000 claims of SRA were given during the height of the Satanic Panic, but even after the FBI launched an investigation no evidence of the legitimacy of SRA could be found.

The stories offered by SRA survivors are shocking: Multigenerational cults, sometimes stretching worldwide, going on for hundreds and sometimes thousands of years, in which children were bred as sacrifices and/or as slaves to “the elites of our society.”

That phrase should give you pause, because it's an antisemitic dogwhistle, and a loud one at that. The Satanic Panic’s roots go deep into history, back to the burning of so-called witches and back to the antisemitic conspiracy of blood libel.

Blood Libel is an accusation that Jews use the blood of Christians (typically children or infants) in the making of Passover bread and other religious practices. Such claims have resulted in the murder of countless Jews.

These accusations against the Jewish people have continued into modern times, seeing a resurgence within conspiracies such as Qanon’s claim that “Hollywood elites” are harvesting adrenochromes by enacting SRA upon children.

You cannot separate the concept of blood libel from the concept of Satanic Ritual Abuse and the Satanic Panic, and subsequently, you cannot separate conspiratorial thought from SRA and associated terminology.

Abuse that is orchestrated by multiple individuals is real. Conditioning is real. Religious and spiritual trauma is real. Cults, too, are real-- But Ritual Abuse, Mind Control, and Organized Abuse is not. Using these terms promotes conspiracy theories that put Jewish people and systems both at risk of harm.

Let's talk about programming now. The idea that a system can be programmed purposefully into a child is unrealistic pseudoscience.

The sheer amount of knowledge and effort an individual would need in order to maintain a constructed system like that is impossible, and this also assumes a much more widespread knowledge of DID and OSDD than is actually present.

While it is technically possible that an abuser (or abusers) may pick up on their victim's ‘quirks’, while it is technically possible that an abuser may realize doing X action leads to Z desired result for them, this is not programming. This is conditioning.

It is still a horrible abuse to inflict upon another person, but the concept of programming and mind control has its roots in yet another disproven conspiracy theory: Project Monarch.

Project Monarch was alleged to be a subset of Project MKUltra. It was said to be a project which trafficked children, using torture-based mind control to force them into becoming sex slaves for international trafficking rings, drug barons, Satanic cults, and “elites”.

These claims originate from Cathy O’Brien, who claims she uncovered repressed memories of this abuse under hypnosis, similar to Michelle Smith. She claims that this abuse led her to develop Dissociative Identity Disorder. This is echoed in the concept of programming as we see it today.

While we are on the subject of DID directly, I'd like to talk about HC-DID.

HC-DID is a community term meaning Highly Complex Dissociative Identity Disorder, which was coined to specifically describe DID caused by RAMCOA/SRA.

Other than the specific claim of origin, HC-DID is virtually indistinguishable from C-DID, otherwise known as polyfragmentation. This is a term with professional research and backing behind it, unlike HC-DID which is a term coined by someone within the RAMCOA community.

In my opinion there is no need for this term when there is already a well-known, scientifically-backed term to describe the same cluster of symptoms, and it is also well known that DID is already a highly complicated disorder with presentation varying widely from system to system. Usage of this term seems at best an alternative description for something which already exists, and at worst a way to further isolate an already vulnerable population.

To be clear, I don't for a second believe that the RAMCOA community has a secret agenda to isolate survivors or anything of the sort. I think the community as it currently stands is full of deeply traumatized, lonely, isolated, and younger plurals who are grappling for language to describe the horrific things they suffered.

I also believe that it has become a dangerous echo chamber that not only distorts people's memory, but may further traumatize and isolate them.

The RAMCOA community does not use plain language to discuss their experiences. Frequently they speak in a code, using esoteric community terms when they do not outright refuse to discuss what RAMCOA may be like whatsoever.

That is not to say that we are entitled to the stories of trauma survivors, rather that this language and how guarded the community is regarding information on RAMCOA results in a very insular community where discussing the subject with outsiders becomes difficult due to this inaccessibility of information. And this leads to these survivors feeling all the more cut off from the outside world, left with only the language coined by conspiracy theorists to describe the indescribable.

This inadvertently pushes the narrative of these dangerous conspiracies I've spoken about throughout this post. To once again make myself clear, I believe these victims in as far as I believe they went through something unspeakably traumatic at a very young age.

But with the volume of RAMCOA claims ever-increasing, yet substantiation of those claims ever-lacking, I cannot logically believe that the intense claims purported are completely and factually true given the evidence in front of me.

In the end, the election was about despair.

Despair over futures that evaporated with deindustrialization. Despair over the loss of 30 million jobs in mass layoffs. Despair over austerity programs and the funneling of wealth upwards into the hands of rapacious oligarchs.

Despair over a liberal class that refuses to acknowledge the suffering it orchestrated under neoliberalism or embrace New Deal type programs that will ameliorate this suffering. Despair over the futile, endless wars, as well as the genocide in Gaza, where generals and politicians are never held accountable.

Despair over a democratic system that has been seized by corporate and oligarchic power. 

This despair has been played out on the bodies of the disenfranchised through opioid and alcoholism addictions, gambling, mass shootings, suicides — especially among middle-aged white males — morbid obesity and the investment of our emotional and intellectual life in tawdry spectacles and the allure of magical thinking, from the absurd promises of the Christian right to the Oprah-like belief that reality is never an impediment to our desires.

These are the pathologies of a deeply diseased culture, what Friedrich Nietzsche calls an aggressive despiritualized nihilism.

Donald Trump is a symptom of our diseased society. He is not its cause. He is what is vomited up out of decay. He expresses a childish yearning to be an omnipotent god. This yearning resonates with Americans who feel they have been treated like human refuse.

But the impossibility of being a god, as Ernest Becker writes, leads to its dark alternative — destroying like a god. This self-immolation is what comes next. 

Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party, along with the establishment wing of the Republican Party, which allied itself with Harris, live in their own non-reality-based belief system.

Harris, who was anointed by party elites and never received a single primary vote, proudly trumped her endorsement by Dick Cheney, a politician who left office with a 13 percent approval rating.

The smug, self-righteous “moral” crusade against Trump stokes the national reality television show that has replaced journalism and politics. It reduces a social, economic and political crisis to the personality of Trump. It refuses to confront and name the corporate forces responsible for our failed democracy.

It allows Democratic politicians to blithely ignore their base — 77 percent of Democrats and 62 percent of independents support an arms embargo against Israel.

The Castlevania franchise feels like it's getting more and more divided since Netflixvania started and it's getting really bloody frustrating to the point that while watching Nocturne I've felt disquieted, and I think I've realised why that is.

It's the fucking DmC:Devil May Cry white hair fiasco all over again.

For those that don't know, when the DmC reboot was revealed people had a lot of criticism, including turning Dante from a cool but likeable hero into a foul mouthed smoker, the dumbing down of the gameplay, the antagonism towards the fanbase, and turning his iconic white hair black. Of all these criticism, only the hair colour change was given any attention, painting the fan base in a very negative light and side stepping the real issues people had by only focusing on the cherry rather than the whole sundae.

All this attention directed towards something that in the grand scheme of things is very minor but it gets all the attention while the bigger stuff is ignore.

Yes, there are people mad about the show for racist reasons and they shouldn't be listened to, but there are genuine complaints that are being swept up with that.

The character changes have a sort of domino effect on everything. Maria being a serious revolutionary is interesting, but I saw someone put it best that what made her special was the fact that she was a little girl in a world of classic horror that believed she was in a fairy tale and had the power to force that reality on everyone else. Netflix Maria is good, but lacks the charm of Maria.

The second example is Juste. When I saw him I was very excited, but that was mainly because it was acknowledgement of the original canon than anything else. His magical prowess, the thing that makes him stand out among the Belmont linage, is mentioned and then brushed aside, and the worst ending of his game is what is taken as canon. And once Richter gets his magic back, Juste is gone. He feels like a plot point rather than the character. I sympathise with people who's favourite game was Harmony of Dissonance.

Annette was a compelling character with a well developed story, but anyone that says her original characterisation would never work are being disingenuous because they literally did that, except that did so with Tera. The connections to Richter and Maria, the damsel elements, the fact she gets turned into a vampire, all from Annette. Swapping them around wouldn't work for multiple reasons and I'm not going to say I can do better than people you get paid to write when I don't, but I feel I can say that if they had wanted to they could have done something closer to the original while still touching on the themes and narratives they wanted to.

There's an elitism with both sides of the fanbase here. On the Netflix side, there's the feeling that since theirs is more popular that any criticism is because people are just nostalgic, and game fans feel that since theirs is the original foundation that anyone that doesn't agree with them is just a new fair-weather fan. And honestly, I'm more sympathetic to the game fans.

I've seen Netflixvania fans look at people complaining that the character have changed and go "yeah well the version you like sucks so you should just grow up" As if that's going to make everything better. And all the people complaining about the race changes or posting "WOKE?!?!?!" have poisoned the well for any actual discussion about this, not helped by the social media accounts deliberately stoking the flames in the mistaken belief that all publicity is good publicity, which raised the ire of nexflixvania creators. Unfortunately marketing can often be removed from the intentions of the creators.

Yes, Netflixvania is a great show, with beautiful animation and great storytelling, but it's not perfect and as an adaptation is leaves a lot to be desired. And that's the crux of it! The show is good, really good! But it doesn't feel like an adaptation of Castlevania. It's just a bunch of little details that pile up to make it less of what the game fans liked about the series. It's more grimdark horror than classic horror. It's more crude than it is philosophical. It's more hopeless than it is hopeful. And regardless of what you individually think, that's what people have liked about Castlevania for almost 40 years.

Ultimately I just have to ask, why do people seem to assume that you can't make a faithful adaptation while also making it interesting? They're not mutually exclusive.

I don't know who might need to hear it, but fwiw mental flexibility is a huge part of analysis (and interacting with other humans lol). You need to be able to account for multiple possibilities when examining a work, or understanding a social exchange. You need to be able to separate what is objective fact from your own subjective interpretation and judgment. The most negative interpretation is not automatically the most worthwhile or true. Someone throwing accusations around in-line with their own worst interpretations does not guarantee those accusations are warranted. You are not a bad or stupid person for disagreeing. Shit needs to withstand scrutiny. I don't always strike the right balance myself. I do the best I can but I'm definitely not perfect. Tbh I'm not beyond pettiness either--although I try to keep that out of actual analysis lol. There have been times I've griped to friends privately or blogged about how I felt (sans tags, with spoiler blocks so people can opt out). I've griped recently. I'm bound to gripe again in the future. Some level of griping is inevitable imo and I figure no one is 100% immune.

All that said, even if someone’s take isn't canon AND even if it's something I really dislike--I'd personally rather people follow their passions anyway. Hands down. I could be in the middle of a rant and my answer would still be that the subject of my frustration gets to exist. I'm not the boss and odds are we're going with different versions in our own heads. Discouraging another fan from creating due to my preferences or narrative approach would horrify me. I've seen fandoms where gatekeeping like that killed the creative community and it was fucking awful.

Not everyone is confident in their own judgment. Not everyone faced with a pissed off person trying to use lore and accusations like clubs will feel okay continuing with their own vision. Elitism and manipulation (especially through rhetoric) can be present within analysis. People are not being taught how to recognize those things properly. Analysts aren't always aware or invested enough to even be careful. It’s legit easy to get caught up in ideas or feelings to the point of forgetting about other people’s, and adjusting to account for alternate approaches takes some work. For me at least, I think having a 'no insults' policy and being super careful when it comes to absolute claims (assertions not qualified by 'I think' or 'it could be argued') helps.

Anyway. Just because a person calls something ‘meaningless’ doesn't make it meaningless. Someone pooh-poohing an observation you made doesn't make your observation less true or important. Employing a literary term doesn't mean that individual actually understands the term, how it works, or how to apply it. Which is to say nothing of romantic chemistry or whatever. I encourage readers to extrapolate on this. ‘Shallow’ could apply as much as ‘meaningless’. Denying parallels exist by itself doesn’t actually negate those parallels. Your version of a character may not be the same as the fan next to you’s and that difference doesn't have to detract. There's more I could say on the subject (I've edited out a lot) but basically--just because another fan isn't into what you're doing doesn't automatically make what you're doing wrong, immoral, shoddy, or otherwise less.

Seriously, vet shit. Question the entire premise an analyst tries to establish then decide for yourself if it holds water. Turn over word choices and assertions in your head before deciding if they're appropriate. Do it to me too. I don't care if someone is the holy goddamn emperor of analysts. Just because a person says something is good or bad, true or false, whatever the hell doesn't make it so. Just because a person uses a technical term doesn't mean they're discussing it effectively. Quality of argument matters beyond the packaging it’s wrapped in. It's important to protect yourself from people whose priority is enforcing their own preferences, including dismissing things they aren't partial to.

I just don't want anyone shamed silent man. Not even people whose takes drive me up the fucking wall. Neither I nor any other analyst is an authority here. And there are people who are absolutely ready to take advantage of other people’s insecurities to assert themselves. Might not even be malicious, just indifferent.

For me, analysis feels kind of like uncovering a dinosaur skeleton. I want to share the cool and exciting things I find with other people. Sometimes I might be sorting out what my own thoughts and feelings are. It's also possible to examine why you're uncomfortable with something, or why you love something another person hates, while making very clear what is YOUR READING and not THE READING. Offering a variety of possibilities is very different from presenting yourself as the only correct one. One note at the end when everything else was insulting and intolerant is like a band-aid over a wound.

EDIT: As a last point, that I'm throwing in just-in-case. If anyone reading this thinks they may have overreached and done stuff I've mentioned + feels shitty about it… that's still not the end of the world. It’s okay. This is hard stuff to learn and I really don't think anyone's perfect at it. Worth the effort though. Just gotta take a deep breath, acknowledge you're a fallible human same as everyone else, and do the best you can going forward. Life goes on.

Broadly speaking I sympathize with the desire to have the smallest possible government or even no government but the latter is a fantasy, and in the case of the former, "possible" is really the operative word.

The world being as it is, and the history of the United States being what it is, I am not sure how to turn back the clock. The more power we give to individual states the more we are inviting individual states to have even more uneven outcomes than they have now. I cannot imagine untethering the states from one another will suddenly make West Virginia prosperous or ruin California. There is also the historical problem that much of the rise of the federal government in the 19th and 20th century occurred over problems of economic development and social justice, by which I do not mean even in the way the phrase is used and abused now, but what I hope we can all agree was the very real necessity that slavery be abolished and that equal rights be granted to minorities and women.

Whatever your stance on abortion we are seeing a version of this play out now on that very issue; left to the states, the lived experience of women in different states can become dramatically different based on a single policy. Gun rights and gun laws are another where we see this dramatic variation from state to state. And the thing is, a woman who lives in a no-abortion state can still get an abortion. Someone in an anti-gun state can still get a gun. They just have to make connections in states more amenable to their desires, and both laws impact the poor disproportionately who always have less autonomy. The states are so dramatically close physically and economically and even culturally (set aside the rural/urban divide, something for a future discussion), I'm skeptical how much federalization is going to achieve, except to exacerbate unequal conditions and unequal outcomes which are already a huge problem.

There is also the problem of defense. History shows time and again that the United States is stronger together. The very discussion of the extent to which it is the business of the United States to police the world is an almost unfathomable luxury that in history has fallen to a number of political bodies small enough to count on our hands. The United States was born in a world of neighboring hostile empires; in 1783 it shared a border with Spain and Britain; later with France, and the major European empires also held sway in the Caribbean and Latin America to the South. It is not impossible that something like that could happen again someday. Arguably, one of the lessons of the American Civil War was not only the Union's greater material wealth but also its greater ability to take advantage of it given its more centralized system helped secure victory over a decentralized, disorganized opponent. The South still smoulders from that defeat that is over a century and a half old, and in some ways it has yet to recover. What if it was the Chinese or the Russians tomorrow?

If the solution is not a curtailed federal government, what is it?

I honestly struggle deeply with this. To abolish the federal government is to roll the dice. Staggeringly few other political bodies in human history have had anything like the success of the United States of America under the Constitution of 1787. Yet negative counterexamples abound. To roll the dice on a new arrangement is to court a virtual guarantee that the new arrangement is not better but worse, maybe far worse.

My PhD would be revoked if my peers heard me say this but the United States is an exceptional place.

The problem as I see it, to which I do not have a solution, is how to hold the power accountable? Whether the power is the bureaucracy, the president, the court, the legislature, the corporations, the billionaires, the 1%, the coastal elite, the people, or however else you slice it, people have to be answerable for their influence, and right now they clearly are not.
