if Black Butler would've happened in the modern day (and someone would've taught this grandpa how to use technology) he would probably used these to learn the things he needs to know as a human

definitely also enjoys slasher games

simply judging by the way he enjoyed that bloodbath on the Campania, he'd looooooove extremely violent games

Love Is An Unfamiliar Name (pt. 2)

PART ONE

Few months had passed since THAT NIGHT, you had finished two short movie scores. Like many composers, you occasionally played with a band, starting out as a sound engineer intern during your music bachelor's degree. It was during this time that you met the group who would later invite you to become their bass player for live shows. Almost fifteen years down the line, there you were, laying down bass lines for their next album.

As the session ended, you reached for your water bottle when your bandmate, Tim, called out to you. "Hey there, kiddo. I know you're taking some time off soon. Can I count on you for the upcoming tour? I'm planning just a few shows so I can spend more time with the kids," he mentioned while packing his gear. 

"Timmy, you know I'll be there! By June, I should have everything wrapped up so we can start post-production," you assured him. Tim happened to be Amy's husband, whom you introduced, and they had been together for nearly a decade.

"When are you leaving?" he inquired.

"Next Monday, I'm off to Alberta, then back to LA for a few days, off to Paris, then back to Canada, and on and on," you explained.

"The way you put it, it sounds like just a month or two," Johnny chimed in.

"Come on! I don't know why you're talking like that. Most of your work will be in post-production," you retorted, playfully pushing him. Johnny, a master in sound effects, was also part of your team, along with Tim, who excelled in translating emotions into music. Tim, however, would be less involved this time due to his newborn daughter. While he would assist on set some days, you had planned most of his work for the final score during post-production.

"I'll admit, I'm just as nervous as you are," Johnny confessed. "Things are getting real now."

"It sure is, and you're both in this with me. If you mess up, I'll fire you with no mercy," you teased, laughing.

 

"Remember when we met this girl man, she was 20-something, sitting shy behind a board working on synthesizers? Years later, she's our boss in the cinematographic world." Tim beamed proudly, resembling an older brother.

"Well, you know I'm here because you never let me fall," you expressed gratefully, recalling how they had always supported you as if you were their little sister, even during your toughest times.

"Oh, I forgot how cute and loving you can be sometimes." Johnny embraced you, joined by Jim and Lucas, the drummer who had just entered the room, unaware of the conversation.

"What would I do without you guys?" You chuckled, feeling a sense of belonging, and these guys made it feel like home.

On Sunday, you began packing your luggage, gathering everything you needed to feel comfortable in the hotel that would serve as your Canadian residence for the coming months.

 

Monday morning, you double-checked everything once again before meeting Jenny at the airport around 2:00 PM to catch your flight, realizing the scale of the project as the entire crew was set to travel on a private flight.

Spotting Jenny amidst a small group at the airport, you recognized familiar faces from the sound department. While conversing with your new colleagues and waiting to check in, you headed to the self-service area for snacks when a familiar voice caught your attention from behind.

"Just make sure not to take the Reese's, Mrs. Coordinator," the voice teased.

"I'm more of an M&M's kind of girl," you retorted playfully. "You can have it all; it’s not like I care... - Pedro," you replied, turning to face him.

"Wow, you can be quite rude sometimes. Has anyone ever told you that?" Pedro seemed taken aback.

"That's just my way of showing affection," you quipped, attempting to break the ice, the joke clear in your mind.

"Like a hedgehog, huh? Got it, Sonic," Pedro replied, retrieving his items. The mention of Sonic brought a smile to your face.

"Sonic?" you questioned.

"Yeah, the hedgehog, Mrs. Coordinator," he continued teasing.

"Please, stop calling me that," you insisted.

"Sonic?" Pedro teased again.

"You're incredibly annoying, has anyone ever told you that?" You fired back.

"A few times, but at least I don’t jump to conclusions about someone else's personality," Pedro responded, a hint of a smile appearing as he took a sip of water.

"What's the matter, dude?" Your feisty side emerged. "I already apologized for that, and now you're going to keep bringing this up every chance you get?" He was right; you can be very rude. "I mean... I'm not... I... 

"Nothing's wrong." Pedro's smile faded. "I thought you'd be okay with a joke about a stupid situation, one that, let's be clear, you created. Yes, I brought it up as a joke for the first and last time… ‘cause it seems we have different senses of humor," he continued earnestly. You found yourself agreeing with him, but you were too proud to give up.

"Alright, maybe we do have different humors. And you were the one who called me rude in the first place." You knew this time you sounded like a neglected child.

"Did I lie?"

"No," you conceded, trying not to sound stubborn. "But since we're going to be working together, perhaps we should try to understand each other better. I was joking about the Reese's incident, you know." You sounded just like your therapist now. “…And”

 

"FINALLY, THERE YOU ARE! May and I have been wandering around like two old ladies looking for their cats," Jenny chimed in, appearing out of nowhere like an angel to save you from yourself.

"Hey Jennifer, how's it going?" Pedro greeted her with a hug that got you thinking. You don’t hug Jenny quite as often as you should. "We were just discussing how we're going to make things work."

"Sure, we were," you muttered, a hint of annoyance in your voice.

"Ah, I see you've already experienced this girl's unique sense of humor," Jenny remarked, trying to lighten the mood. Though her comment irritated you, you knew she meant well.

"Unfortunately, he has, Jen," you replied, attempting to sound nice.

"Jenny, have you ever heard the phrase 'all bark, no bite'? It seems like your friend here fits that bill," Pedro observed with a cynical smile, not in a malicious way but more like a curious mind pondering your next move. Was he provoking you? You got confused...

"I can bite, but only if you ask nicely," you retorted, catching him off guard. His cheeks flushed, Jenny chuckled, and she made her way to the self-service area.

"What happened, ‘Mr. I have an answer to everything’? Cat got your tongue?" You teased him, noting his silence as he processed your response. You started to feel a bit foolish.

"Talking to you is truly a rollercoaster," Pedro remarked, attempting to sound confident, though you noticed his hand twitching. "That's a compliment, Sonic. Before you decide to pounce on me," he added shyly and genuinely. What just happened? Why did you do this to someone who isn’t your usual type? Well, you might be a wooden heart, but certainly you’re not dead. 

"See you around then?" He regained his confidence. "All bark, no bite." 

You were on the verge of responding that you hoped not, but before you could, he approached you and gently patted your shoulder, his hand resting there for a moment. A surge of electricity shot through your body so swiftly that you felt like a supernova had just exploded within you. Startled, you stepped back, fear creeping in. What was happening?

"Hey?" He looked confused. "Are you okay?"

You nodded in affirmation, and he smiled, remarking, "Quick reflexes, huh?” 

This time, you were caught off guard. Physical touch was something you weren’t used to. Your body language resembled that of a feral cat—life had shaped you into this defensive creature. Earth Calling. 

"Haha," you attempted to maintain the cool facade you had two minutes ago, "Isn't speed one of Sonic's powers?"

"I guess it is.”

"Well, are we cool then?" you asked, a hint of confusion in your voice.

"Why wouldn't we be?" he responded. 

"Pedro, we just..."

"It's okay," he reassured, moving closer as you instinctively stepped back, clutching your pack of peanut butter M&M's like a protective talisman. "Hey, it's really okay. You've said what you needed to say, and I've done the same. We're cool." Sensing your anxiety, he urged, "Trust me."

"Okay, I think we should head back.” You said. “Jenny and May are probably feigning indecision over their purchases to make sure we don’t kill ourselves," you suggested, opening your M&M's pack. He observed your delicate movements, ensuring the package remained intact.

"I’m sure of that... Just like how Jenny watches out for you, May prevents me from fucking things up," Pedro remarked with a laugh.

"Two grown adults with their babysitters," you joked, glancing over his shoulder at Jenny and May. You signaled for them to join you and Pedro, as he turned and did the same. 

"Hey, Hi!" May approached you enthusiastically. "I couldn't believe it when Pedro said he'd be working with you! I don't want to sound like a fangirl, but I love your music work! The last score you created was fantastic, and your work with Mended Fragments... I can't wait to see you guys perform live again!"

"Oh, uh, thank you... May," you replied, extending your hand. "I'm truly grateful to hear that,” you said shyly. “I must admit, I still don’t how to act in these situations, but I genuinely appreciate it." Your skin flushed with warmth. “We will play some gigs next year, i can get you some cool spots if you want”

"Really???" She was trying to hide how starstruck she was.

"Wow, enjoy it, May.” Pedro said, “She wasn't this friendly to me when we first met, and I told her I was a fan of her work. The very same day she called me the 'Game of Thrones guy.'" In that final sentence, he glanced at you like a cat poised to knock a cup of water off a table. He was teasing you, and he wanted you to know that.

This time, you didn't take the bait. Instead, you quipped, "You were on a date, Pedro, and my morals weren't the best that night. I'd rather not risk it." You chuckled, while Jenny smirked by his side.

"Come on!" He said it, feigning disappointment. "I thought we were due for another discussion," he glanced at you, "boriiiing."

"Guys, let's go. We have a flight to catch," May interjected, sensing the tension. The four of you made your way to meet the rest of the crew. Taking a seat beside Jenny, you found yourself smiling, and Jenny looked surprised at you.

"It's been a while since I've seen this," she remarked, her expression bright.

"See what?"

"This very one smile," she said, flashing her teeth.

"I'm not—"

"I'm not smiling. I don't feel anything. I'm the ice queen," she cut in, teasingly imitating you. "Everyone, look at how mean and bad I am." She continued…

"I have no idea what you're talking about," you responded, laughing and looking at the surroundings to ensure no one was paying attention.

"If anything happens between you two, you owe me 1000 bucks."

"Make it 2000, because nothing's going to happen. Deal?"

"Deal. I'm thrilled at the thought of being $2000 richer without doing anything."

"Keep dreaming," you retorted, picking up a book to read and acknowledging silently that she kind of had a point.

So was finally able to watch Sonic prime today and I have so many words after the first watch.

Gonna put it all under the cut so spoilers for Sonic Prime below.

So I love Nine so much. He is gonna be probably one of the best characters in this show, in my opinion.

Just he's been through so much with no one caring about him at all. I like that he's just a very selfish character but in an understandable way. Why would he stay and help these people he's never met, no one ever bothered to ever help him so why would/should he help them. So yeah of course he's not gonna care to help the resistance they never did anything for him.

He only cares about Sonic who is the first person in his entire life to ever be kind to him. Nine has an immediate attachment to Sonic, despite him saying otherwise that they aren't friends, but actions speak louder than words there buddy-o. Like you literally wanted to start a new world with just the two of you my guy.

I see people thinking that Nine thinks Sonic abandoned him there at the end, and I think he does a little bit but not 100%. In that he's not gonna just betray Sonic since Sonic didn't save him. Nine is smart he knows Sonic keeps randomly traversing the Shatterverse thing area and has the same energy signal. Once Sonic is able to explain "oh I was going towards you but then got booted into the in-between" Nine will probable be like "oh that tracks based on my calculations" (in my mind I want it to go like this at least, plus I hate plots with the "oh you left me so I will betray you" when literally it was out of the other persons control to leave them, idk I just really am not a fan of that kind of plot line).

Also Nine still made sure that he gave the Eggman quintuplets a reason not to kill Sonic. I think once Nine realizes they can't find Sonic in that reality he'll put two and two together of what happened.

Also also can we talk about how Nine was literally smarter than all 5 Eggmans put together. He hacked their computers, overrode Rusty Rose, and figured out how to traverse the Shatterverse in a few weeks with the shard that the human forms of Eggsecute couldn't figure out when they literally had it for seemingly years. Nine just Legally Blond "what like it's hard" the Eggmans so bad.

Side note, can we just talk about how in almost every single world Sonic's first response is "I need to find Tails!!" He needs Tails to figure out what going on and how to fix it but also that's his best friend and little brother, new situation find the person he trusts the most first. Him saving Mangey Tails when he first got to the jungle world was just so adorable he was so worried about him.

There's so much with this show I wanna talk about but I'm real tired.

So I'll start with the fact that I am, indeed, a fan of Chibnall's era. I am an even bigger fan of the 13th Doctor. I'll also start with the fact that I quite literally grew up with RTD's writing and loved Ten with all my heart. But now I am an adult and some of RTD's writing has left me a bit scared. Here's my "live streaming" review on The Star Beast. SPOILERS BELOW!

I'm going in order of how I processed things, so it's gonna be chaotic. My first essay is this: You know why this post is so long? It's because we're not livestreaming things anymore. I'm not immediately with other fans in real time, typing out our little posts. I'm quite literally doing this at my leisure. I'll miss watching DW live. Now then, in order! 1. The music? Ten out of ten. I have always loved Gold's compositions and he did not let us down. And this opinion is only being generated from the new(er) theme song. Which leads me to...

2. Look at the B U D G E T. Even the opening credits has a budget that you can just FEEL. Those stars/galaxies? Very nice... And then I have to chuckle over the low level lighting / 2000s era effects of David Tennant's full profile voiceover of Donna and his story.

3. Him taking the boxes, seeing Donna's face, and slowly putting the boxes back is an RTD special and I LOVE that kind of comedy. It just makes me chuckle. And then him having a full blown panic over hearing Donna shout "Rose!" which... 4. Having these little call back moments feels rather bitter since we're calling this a reboot of the show. UNLESS the reboot is when Nucti starts up? But the fact that I'm confused just shows how bitter I should be. Again, my Chibnall love is showing. I don't believe in yet another reboot for DW, but that's a marketing thing over anything else... I hope. 5. I'm glad the 2000s Rose/Doctor shipping era lives strong through the name Rose. I know those fans are going to be happy and they deserve it. 6. NOW... Donna having a family. Okay. I'll have a separate post but... Does anyone else think that Donna having a husband just doesn't fit for her? Especially with her memories erased? Idk, I just never envisioned Donna getting married after the whole Lance thing. BUT I'm glad she's happy and the husband seems so nice. 7. Donna giving up that lottery money? Also strange considering she lost her memories. The first time we meet Donna we get this feeling that she's a bit shallow, which makes sense because she has to develop as a character. That was her character development so here KEEPING the money would have made more sense here. Which...

8. Rose. That's all. She's great!

9. Hey, can't help but notice, but when did the 14th Doctor have time to make a new screwdriver, huh? What gives? AND - AND there's not a single hint of 13's sonic on there. HMM. What the heck!

10. FORGOT SOMETHING. Whatever the line was "that says mistress" "Oh, catch up, will you?" I don't know how to take in this scene quite yet, but it's making me pause. It felt... Off kilter. Maybe cause I love 13 so much, I don't know. There's always callbacks to other faces when the Doctor first regenerations, but this felt... Wrong? Also, TEE HEE my mind went to Missy IMMEDIATELY and I love that little connection my fic writing brain is going wild.

11. WHY DOES UNIT HAVE SO MUCH MONEY???? Look at this uniforms, holy cow! I almost don't like it? Like, they're an underground agency. WE JUST SAW THEM GET DESTROYED BY CYBERMEN IN THE POWER OF THE DOCTOR. Are we just ignore that entire episode or...?

12. Donna not being able to keep a job? Yeah, THAT one I believe haha.

13. "I will burn down the world for you, darling" says Donna Noble to her transgender kid. WHICH IS AMAZING, WHICH MADE ME SMILE SO WIDE I WAS HAVING A PARTY IN MY BRAIN. There's my Donna! 14. "Gramps used to talk about flying saucers" oh god my heart. I teared up a little, not going to lie. Wilf, I think about you every single day. You made the Doctor the person he is today.

15. MEEP IS SO CUTE. OH WOW. I know "evil" is coming but SO CUTE RIGHT NOW.

16. To go from some excellent animatronics from the Meep to whatever those alien, fly things are was HILARIOUS. What, we'd run out of money for those costume's? Were they meant to look like a typical RTD alien back in the 2000s? How does that work?

17. WHAT THE ACTUAL FLYING FUCK WAS THE SONIC DOING. Wait, did Disney give the sonic some magical powers? Why are we suddenly writing in the air? How are we getting readouts of the ship from the sonic like that? Could it do that before? Why would we not do that before? I'm dying that's so funny.

18. Shirley seems cool!!! I hope we get more of her! And I love the nod to PROPER representation. Chibs did a good job of that as well. Edit: REAL representation! Good on RTD. The scene with the stairs and she says "don't make me the problem"... I am not a wheelchair user but I do hope that was properly done. 19. "I absolutely love her [Donna]" LOOK AT 14 HAVING FEELINGS! Aww, I hope 15 follows through with the feelings! 11, 12, and 13 have been so locked up, so scared to love... Having a Doctor that's ready to loudly embrace their love for things would be such a good character development. (My fear would be RTD ripping that away in the most tragic way possible, but that's a future problem I suppose).

20. I'm at the scene where Rose is talking to the Meep in the shed, and just, again, THE MUSIC. We did have some good musical moments in 13's era but, even I have to admit, nothing as pretty as this. It really is something, round of applause once again.

21. LISTEN. L I S T E N. I don't condone slapping the Doctor. I don't. In fact, it's wrong. It's very wrong. And you can't slap 13, can you? So slapping 14 shouldn't make sense. It's the definition of sexist. It's just not something you should do. BUT. B U T. Jackie's "stitch this, mate" is always in my head and now THIS "here we go again" after Sylvia gives the Doctor a good slap... I laughed, okay? It was funny! But really, in the good year of 2023, there shouldn't be comedy like that. That joke should have died. BUT I LAUGHED. So I'm to blame as well.

22. "Never mind about the ferret from mars." I LOVE the mars callback from Donna, thank you very much.

23. Kate looking after Wilf damn near brought tears to my eyes. Kate, you are the real hero of the DW universe. Thank you.

24. This is... This is gonna be another post. But. Okay. So. The whole "you're assuming he as a pronoun". Right. Okay. I know groups of people that talk like that. Both online and in person. Personal life spoiler, I work(ed) in musical theater. I've seen it all. I, personally, do not like this whole... "Let's be really obvious about it" thing. And also highly believe in someone else first telling me, when it fits, what their pronouns are. Having someone pull the defensive "YOU ASSUMED" crap doesn't work because humans don't think like that. It's a whole other rant, but yeah. This felt forced and I hate when shows do that. Representation is important but FORCING that representation doesn't help.

25. what's the. what's the sonic doing. what. how'd it. we got lines in the air. we got unbelievable shield. we. he waved it like a wand and now. what the. how'd. (Yo, not me head cannoning that this is 13 banging around in 14's head demanding that they have a better way to protect their friends. Love it). I WILL HAVE A LOT MORE THOUGHTS ON THIS.

27. "This is a sonic screwdriver and if it's good at one thing, it's resonating concrete". Oh yeah, Doctor? I'd like to bring forth you, never once, being able to do it. Not once! (And now it's good at creating magical shields and complex, alien holograms, but that's point #25)

31. I too can come up with technobabble bullcrap that means nothing. I sometimes think that's RTD's biggest failing, his incessant need to over describe things. EDIT. JEEZ, a good five minutes later as we're STILL talking gibberish.

32. Hey, I see you "glass wall between Donna and the Doctor" and raise you "glass wall between Wilf and the Doctor". OW. I demand emotional compensation!

33. Listen, I just got over 13 keeping every. single. emotion inside of her. She never raised her voice, she never really cried, she never had a chance to just scream and yell and be angry at the universe. The fact that there's 14 RIGHT HERE, screaming, because to save Donna, he has to lose her YET AGAIN. Just angry and devastated and grieving... It's a stunning scene, it's a scene that makes sense, but my 13 loving little heart says that this is 13's moment to be angry and it was taken from her.

34. Also, ha, I know Disney bought DW, but did we just "Winter Soldier" Donna Noble. We gave her trigger words to keep her memories at bay? Really?

35. "Hold on a minute," said in Ten's/Fourteenth's voice... Was that.. Was that ELVEN'S theme music while Donna was being, well, Time Lady Donna? Because that was... That was GOLDEN. How amazing is that? What a great idea!

JINJER Releases New Single 'Rogue'

Ukrainian metal juggernauts JINJER have unleashed their brand new single "Rogue", showing once more their refusal to conform to the musical genre rule book. The song's accompanying music video can be seen below.

"Rogue", featuring the ferocity of vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk combined with a sonic rollercoaster of chugging riffs, pulverizing bass lines and intricate drums, is another raging reminder that JINJER never minces words when it comes to their music and always keeps the pressure on with each new release.

JINJER recently completed recording the follow-up to the 2021 album "Wallflowers".

When JINJER's previous single "Someone's Daughter" was released in August, Shmayluk said in a statement: "'Someone's Daughter' is an artistic attempt to cast the light on the inner world of women, who in various scenarios and circumstances have had to choose a path that was historically made by men.

During an appearance on a recent episode of Knotfest's "She's With The Band", Shmailyuk spoke about the progress of the songwriting sessions for JINJER's new LP. Tatiana said: "My purpose is just to write lyrics and sing them. I'm so behind right now with the writing lyrics. And I warned my guys. We were at least to get a really rough draft, rough sketch or a demo of one song, like maybe first single from the new album, at least get this, but nope. [Stress and creativity don't] work with me. Well, but when the deadline's coming, and everybody knows that — I've been talking, like, every single time we release a new album, I say that, I say this — deadlines push me. So I just have to write, so I get this stream of consciousness, basically. I write down whatever the bullshit is in my head. And then you build it. At least you have to have bricks to build a poem or whatever it is, just lyrics."

Regarding the musical direction of the new JINJER material, Tatiana said: "It's gonna be different, first of all, because I feel that the music differs a lot. And to my mind, the whole — I won't say how many songs are there; I guess 12 or even 15; let's say 13; I don't remember — but they all have… not all of them, but half of them, at least, they have a similarity in them. They're similar to each other or they remind me. They have this concept within — without any lyrics, they still sound like they belong to one box. They are a set of songs. And I already think about all the… I'm not even thinking about like the lyrics — I think about the topics and stuff, but I think about the booklet or the cover or even the music videos and what I'm gonna wear there. And it has a certain flavor to me that… I feel like it has this flavor of 19th century. It's very romanticism from the 19th century. If you listen to it, you will think, 'Oh.' You know, when you listen to MUSE, you feel he was inspired by a lot of classical composers — obviously. So our new music has this flavor. And I'm so excited."

JINJER will embark on a North American tour in the fall. Support on the trek will come from fast-rising Japanese metalcore unit HANABIE and progressive metalcore mainstays BORN OF OSIRIS.JINJER released its first official live DVD/Blu-ray, "Live In Los Angeles", on May 17 via Napalm Records. Recorded and filmed on December 22, 2022 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, this offering is intended to celebrate not only getting through the last few years in one piece, but also the band's 15-year career.

"Live In Los Angeles" was a spontaneous decision by the band, recorded as raw as possible, to emphasize the passion that can come from a live show. This release is an explosive mixture of JINJER's discography — featuring fan favorites like "Sit Stay Roll Over", "Home Back" and the game-changing "Pisces". It’s me again :D (Thank you soooo much for that whole essay I had a BLAST reading it) Basically same question, except Frontiers shook me all the way with the character development between Sonic and Amy in the MAINLINE GAMES. What’s your view of the future of those two with Ian Flynn as the writer? :D

Oh! Long time no see! I still remember that one ask, it was a great exploration of the future of their dynamic after they seemed to reach such a stable point. I haven't checked the comics since... issue 40 something? Were there any SonAmy moments since that ask? I'm very out of the loop.

I'll just set up a line break to not clutter every dashboard with my many thoughts.

Anyway, yes! Frontiers SonAmy! I'm still thinking a lot about it and looking for more evidence. I have played the game, but I'm currently searching for Sonic's secret monologues about Amy, especially the umbrella one and "Amy... I wish I made up my mind sooner". I even installed a mod to reduce the time it takes for Sonic to talk (from 10 minutes to 3 minutes), so I'm in the middle of the research process for a video going full analysis mode on the dynamic. BUT! I can spare some thoughts!

First of all, there are some things that I think we have to accept from Frontiers:

The game is setting up a new direction for the franchise, and for a good part of its runtime it acknowledges all past interactions and events in Sonic's history, before attempting to add its own flavor on top.

It seems this future plan is going to shake up the main cast substantially. Judging by the ending, the main cast is gonna go their own separate ways for a while, and I wouldn't be surprised if the next game has some even bigger character changes. It's gonna be controversial, but that feels like the direction Flynn and Sonic Team are going towards.

With all of this in mind, let's delve into the future of mainline SonAmy:

Sonic Frontiers is like IDW Sonic #2, but reversed: This is my main takeaway from the game, and it all comes from that one scene where Amy talks about sharing her love with the world. The game likes to hint that Amy was profoundly impacted by the death of the Kocos, the one species that, when helped fulfill their last wish, liberate the "soul" of its original owner, since it's revealed in Ouranos Island that the Koco were meant to be just lucky charms, and shouldn't have kept the memories and (presumably) spirits of the Ancients that died fighting The End. Amy wants to help everyone, especially those who seem to be tormented souls that won't get any rest until their final wishes are completed. This sets up the main drama with Sonic's point of view, and gives us our very first revelation.

Now, why "IDW Sonic #2 but reversed"? Back then, we saw Amy fully express her love and devotion to Sonic, showing that she loves him for what he is, and she won't change it. She'll also have her own priorities, and won't just blindly follow Sonic if there's somewhere else where she's needed. In Frontiers, it's Sonic who reveals that he appreciates Amy for what she is, and he wants her to be safe first and foremost. He won't stop her from going across the world spreading all her love to those who need it, he actually encourages her and tells her he'll wait for her to come back and tell him everything. For someone like Sonic, this feels as close to a full "I love you" we're ever gonna get, and it's delivered in such a chill and casual way.

The future of these two looks brighter than ever: some scumbag dared telling me "you must be crying because there's no SonAmy at all in Frontiers" and I was like "did you actually play the game?" Sonic is perfectly chill around Amy, and he seems more open than ever to learn more about her and just be together. They're reaching what I called my "golden status" back in the day: going on adventures, being around each other, just having a great time. Frontiers casually dropped some bombshells on us, and while I wouldn't get behind this exact conclusion unironically, I love that our SonAmy friends over at Twitter looked at their scenes and literally posted "Yup, they're clearly dating now".

What's next? It seems like Amy's outbursts of love towards Sonic are being downplayed in main canon now, following this trend that started in Boom and continued in IDW Sonic. This is already a pretty controversial topic, and I think it's not gonna go away anytime soon. The future under Ian Flynn's pen and Sonic Team's supervision seems to be one where Sonic and Amy go into this weird "but are they actually dating each other or not?" state. Their interactions are gonna be more and more casual and less wacky than back in the 2000's, and the teasing is probably gonna be more subtle than ever, because they won't outright confirm they're dating, but at the same time they want us to suspect something is happening behind the scenes.

And, like Greeny pointed out recently, there's a chance we might be heading into a canon timeskip that'll change characters and possible even age them up. I've had similar suspicions after watching the first post-credits scene but... idk yet, if it happens it'll probably affect Sonic and Amy's dynamic a lot.

Like I said, I'm still in the research phase of my SonAmy Frontiers analysis, but those cutscenes and monologues... I don't know... they got me thinkin', y'know? They do be looking very sus!

I wonder how they're going to interweave Dean into next season like visually? It would be kinda strange if we cut to heaven or a different universe if it's not connected to the gangs story line but I'm sure they could pull it off. I'm guessing Dean is going to continue to change their world and the gang will be fighting the consequences. Even though it's fun to think Castiel is banging his head against a wall in heaven because Dean is fucking up the universe is he still in heaven? I've wondered how the first Cas scene will go in the Winchesters and on one hand the reveal could be with a character that doesn't know Castiel but the first time we see Cas is with Dean so maybe it'll be a nod to that. How do you feel about the Chuck won theory? I don't believe it but damn is it terrifyingly believable.

I do not know how to explain this to fandom. Because fandom gets a goddamn idea and definition in their head, and tells themselves it's the only way to interpret a statement, but let me emphasize: THIS IS NOT ANOTHER UNIVERSE THAT IS GOING TO RANDOMLY DISCONNECT IN STORY.

IT IS NOT.

I do not CARE how your brain has translated the multiverse statements. You (the grand you, not just you), are wrong.

The story will not be dropped and abandoned. It will still integrate into what we consider SPN Prime timeline.

I must, must, MUST remind you that they call it multiverse or other universes and worlds when literally the same timeline is divided, like The End or the S12-14 AU. This isn't some magical universe of only aliens. It's literally just, us, on timeline splits.

The timeline splits are made by choices. It's all about choice. The surprise is, We Already Made Our Choices, Now We Understand Why We Made Them.

Chuck Won is also wrong, and also fandom being bullheaded assigning things and reading unreliable narrators wrong, that's my opinion on it. It's people being dumb as rocks and falling for the first unreliable statement available and going "SEE SEE" because they want to be right, not because they're actually listening to what's fucking being said.

In fact, I DO know enough that later seasons WILL clown the FUCK out of people on the Chuck Won train, the same way this plot clowned everybody that didn't listen to what I was saying the whole time, now everybody that was Lost As Shit the whole plot are like OH CHUCK WON because they refuse to actually listen or think or stop projecting or jumping to first answers, objectively refuse, even when the show is screaming at them about it.

Chuck Won makes me go "and this is why this fandom lost the plot", that's my take on Chuck Won. "These people are the exact people Robbie designs his story to mess up." That's my take on Chuck Won. Robbie being talented enough to rug pull everyone, that's my take on Chuck Won. Telling myself, over and over on a loop, to be patient with stubborn people getting their gears stuck on their old ideas. That's my take on Chuck Won.

Like sorry that I am beating in the YOU ARE WRONG thing so hard right now, but right now, fandom is missing 95% of the point.

Dean has looked into all the fractal potential choices he's made or can imagine and can't see his happy ending. And it's NOT that he's going to jump to another fucking universe. It's the same as Mary. She saw every possible Mary, and she isn't going to be any of them, she's going to be herself.

That's also Dean, and the big [dramatic gasp] plot twist is that in a year or two, we realize we were always in this timeline, and Dean always chose this life, and Mary always made choices that led to her fate, and that's fucking fine, because she had a life worth living, even if it was cut short, and she wants to be who she became.

I'm getting flashbacks to people insisting "jack pulled Cas out" even though that absolutely was not what the fuckin show said and yall ran rampant with a single line, regardless of context or overall surrounding plot.

It's really not hard to include Dean. I can't swear to any specific angle this far out, but off the top of my head, Dean clearly wasn't happy with that resolution and will sneak back out again because he cannot be made to be at peace, and he screws with it again. Or, rather than active screwing, Lata and crew break down who the mystery man is, and reveal that him, and not this Chuck fella, made these akrida. Doesn't matter what he fucking claimed to you in the past, nobody wants to admit the brain crabs are theirs nor would it fix anything, but sure is weird that Dean's the first person in a bajillion years to set them loose like this. Nobody's stopping to think about these important questions, but they need to be asked. The assumption that "there are no questions to ask with answers that we haven't been given yet, I have the full picture to make a declaration" is literally what's screwing this fandom up despite implicit warnings from the plot itself to not do that.

I really, really love Security Breach, and I'm grateful it came into my life and gave me new stories to be excited about and hyperfixate on and get me into fnaf at all, but my god, that game needed another year in the oven. For the bugs AND to fix certain issues with the script.

I get that for gameplay purposes in a game with such a massive map they need to telegraph how to solve certain problems but it'd be great if their hints from Freddy that you were supposed to somehow get the body parts of his best friends were more in character for the guy who's supposed to be one of TWO characters you get to know.

Like at least have him be like "Oh if Monty were well, he could get this open for us!" and then if you think that's too subtle have a popup objective like "retrieve Monty's claws" or something like that.

I have really enjoyed this series over the years, and Security Breach in particular has been my favorite in terms of what sort of gameplay it offers and how that vibes well with my preferences, to the point that I dare say that Security Breach is like the Sonic 06 of FNAF.

The bugs in this game is are wild. Let me show you how easy it is to get out of bounds. Without any mods. On the Switch.

They had a freaking additional year to fix this, this is a PORT, they put colored cables in the Daycare and fixed rendering issues by dialing back some of the polygons and added the bonus Save Station Post-6am, but they couldn't fix the arcade wall glitch??

I can use that to skip back down the ground floor, bypass Roxy to get to the Prize Counter, use it to get to the Fire Exit Ending early, skip to one of the Security Room segments minus animatronics to get additional Security Badges I haven't properly earned, or even take a quick drop directly to the trash catacombs without using any stairs or elevators. That's a powerful bug.

And yeah, it would have been so much more in character for Freddy to just say something like: "Nobody can break these gates like Monty can!" or "Roxy has such a sharp eye for detail." or "Chica's songs could stop anyone in their tracks.", y'know, something that praises them like he would definitely do but give you a little hint of what you're expected to do, because honestly, the whole thing with Roxy's eyes is so out of left field if you don't understand the context of why you need to repair the kart so you can run her down for no given reason and pluck them out of her face.

It's never explained in-universe why you should need to do that other than to advance the time. Not a single post-it, not an employee message that implies the benefits of grafting Monty's claws on Freddy's hands, not even a cheeky remark from Dread Unit over the PA system.

If I hadn't known beforehand that I was supposed to get the claws, that line is so out of nowhere and confusing. Knowing that I'm supposed to get the claws, the line made me go "Freddy, what the hell?"

Considering that a canceled outcome of this game was to have Freddy turn against you under the influence of the glitch, this could have been easily dismissed in retrospect as him slipping, but that's a little too much credit, I think.

That said, Steel Wool did amazing with the art direction and details of the Pizzaplex, like, I absolutely adore the in-universe branding and character artwork, and have kept one game file specifically for leisurely exploring the majority of the Pizzaplex to admire the environmental storytelling.

But dang, this needed a little more time to cook.

Alright! That was episode 3: A Gold Bar in Fort Knox. I feel like this was sort of a transitional episode, and I'm... not sure how I feel about that. The Shortcut and the people on it were a huge part of the book's journey, and here... it's just used to get from point A to point B, rather than being an interesting stop of its own. With that, I'm gonna have to give this one a 7/10. I really hope they do more with Noland and Cannonball down the line... But I am fascinated to see where the brainwashed Mr. Benedict plot goes...

MEWTWO VS SHADOW (Pokemon VS Sonic) My take

(Hi, so today I'm going to talk about my Mewtwo vs Shadow Death Battle, now if you heared the searies Death Battle then you would know/remember that there episode of this matchup was disappointing and for good reason. The battle was short and made Shadow look like a joke, the only good things that I like about it are the track and some lines, that's all. So yeah not a great episode and I get why but still, Mewtwo vs Shadow is a great matchup and has a lot of potential, so I decided to tell my take on Shadow vs Mewtwo. Now I just want to meantion that this is just how I would do the fight and I will meantion somethings in the end, so that all being sead let's begin)

The battle will start with Shadow in cerulean cave trying to find the last chaos emeraled, then he finds it, but before he could grabb it something hits him, Shadow gets back up, then Mewtwo appeares,

Mewtwo: What brings you here?

Shadow: I was just about grabb that emeraled and leave, but now it looks like I have something else to take care off.

FIGHT

Shadow kicks Mewtwo, then blasts a chaos spear at him, Mewtwo then reflects the blast at Shadow, Shadow doges it then he telepots behind Mewtwo and homing atracks him, then Mewtwo uses psychic to throw Shadow in to a rock then Mewtwo uses aura sphere whitch hits Shadow, but then Shadow uses his spinn dash, whitch gets blocked by Mewtwo's protect, but then Shadow jumps up in the air using his hover boots and uses his chaos speares at him whitch they land, Mewtwo uses recover and uses swift whtich hits Shadow, then Shadow teleporta behind Mewtwo and kicks him multiple times and uses chaos speare at him, but Mewtwo teleports behind Shadow and uses shadow ball sending him flying, Mewtwo then uses his giant spoon hiting Shadow, Shadow pulls out a chaos emeraled whtich he uses to stop time, then Shadow kicks Mewtwo in the neck and summons multiple energy balls at him, then Shadow unfreezes time and the attacks connect hiting Mewtwo, Mewtwo stands back up, uses recover and then uses confusion whtich hits Shadow, then uses flamethrower and hits him with a thunder punch, Shadow gets back up and charges his spinn dash, Mewtwo seeing this uses his ice beam to freeze Shadow, but before it could hit Shadow he teleports behind Mewtwo and stricks him with his spinn dash, whtich sends Mewtwo a few feet away, then heads towards Shadow whtich Shadows does the same, they hit each other a few times going back and forth, then Mewtwo uses his mind reading to read Shadow's mind, after doing that Mewtwo knows that he needs to finish this now, but unfortunatlly Shadow uses chaos controle again and kicks him sending Mewtwo in to wall, then Shadow grabbs tje last chaos emeraled, but then Mewtwo gets back saying

Mewtwo: You are indeed impressive Shadow, but sadlly it's time to face your end.

Shadow: Oh please like you can take finish m-

Then Shadow stops, he feels somethings happening to his mind, Mewtwo's trying to take controle off Shadow's mind, but then all 7 chaos emeraleds cyrcle around Shadow and then Shadow becomes Super Shadow.

Shadow: Behold the ultimate power.

Mewtwo: Let me show you WHAT TRUE POWER IS.

Mewtwo then evolves into Mega Mewtwo Y

Shadow: Time to end this

Mewtwo: Agreed

Both Mewtwo and Shadow fly to the sky, Mewtwo uses shadow ball, Shadow dogeses it then Shadow trys to kick Mewtwo, but Mewtwo uses protect and then uses aura sphere whtich lands sending Shadow a feets away, then Mewtwo uses uses zen headbutt whitch lands, Shadow hits Mewtwo then kicks him and finally uses his chaos sphere that does chricitical damage, Mewtwo uses recover and uses hyper beam, Shadow blocks it and punches Mewtwo in the stomach and uses multiple chaos spheres Mewtwo then reflects them but Shadow teleports behind Mewtwo once again, but this time Mewtwo uses psychic and pushes Shadow into a mountain then seas

Mewtwo: You fool, did you really thought that you could beat me? Hmph how foolish and now your time has come.

Mewtwo blast Shadow with a powerful attack shadow ball, whitch destroys a the mountain, then Mewtwo seas

Mewtwo: You never stood a chance.

Shadow: SHUT UP

Then Mewtwo is shock at seeing Shadow still alive and then Shadow removes his inhibitor rings and becomes Chaos Super Shadow, his golden aura and fur become red and his eyes have no pupiles

Shadow: IT'S TIME TO END THIS

Shadow then punches Mewtwo and then attacks multiple times over, then uses his chaos sphere whitch hits Mewtwo in the arms and stomach and finally Shadow teleports behind Mewtwo and seas

Shadow: CHAOS BLAST

Mewtwo gets compliteli destroyed, leaving nothing but ashes, Shadow returns to his base form, then grabs his inhibiter rings and seas

Shadow: I'm the coolest.

Then Shadow leaves, we see Mewtwo's ashes being floating in the air.

(So yeah that's what my Mewtwo vs Shadow would look like, now there's somethinga that I want to meantion.

1. The reason why I love did this is because lately I started loving this matchup, it's tacking one of my favorite characters from both searies how both have a lot in commin and I was disappointed at Death Battles episode about it and I wanted to fix and the fight better.

2. The reasons why Shadow won in my take is because Shadow is more powerful, steonger, faster and durable than Mewtwo.

3. This is more so on the fight, but I just wanted to meantion it, my version will also be 2D like Death Battle, but it will have some hand drawn scenes and finally there's the track now even though I like I Am All Of Mewtwo by Brandon Yates, there's a better fanmade track that I would love to use and it's made Cryo and Creeperpasta, called Born to Destroy, whitch is perfect and I recommend you listen to it.

So yeah that all and also if you don't like it, then I'm sorry, I tryed my best and I think it's good and I hope you like it)

Eve : Listen up, everyone! No fooling around! We are here to raise the defenses of the castle! Let us open the door nice and easy!

Seto : You even had to say "Nice and Easy". Ah...Whatever, let's just set up the denfeses. There's gonna be a huge game watch on game night, what'll be soccer, football, or American football the NFL.

Seto : Like the Amy's Room stage from Sonic Battle?

Solva : And don't forget about the Library stage in Central City too as well. By the way, what happened to Night Babylon and Central City?

Seto : They got destroyed...when the Black Arms arrived in Westopolis, that's also the first level of Shadow's game, so now both Amy's Stage, Club Rouge, and the Libray Stage from Sonic Battle have all been demolished by Black Doom's reign of terror, or should I say his 2000 year old reign of Terror, that's what literally happened during the Gizoid Incident. Since the Dreamcast Era was about to come to an end, Gemerl made Eggman to confess his stupidity to others for making robots do all the crime after Metal Sonic turned against on him. That's what got into these humans to start major conflicts against both hedgehogs and aliens.

Solva : So the inhabitants of Sonic's world were able to make Sonic Villains pay for their crimes against others, that's what those Chaos Emeralds meant as a warning from the Ancients in the past. The Emeralds weren't used for destruction they were used for good, that's why Tikal was trying to stop Chaos because the Ancients warned them about putting into Omnicide, that's why!

Alpha Team Leader : (via radio) This is Alpha Team! We are currently under heavy fire! Hostages have been secured! I'm requesting backup for any assistance immediately! We need your help to activate all five lanterns to set up the defense line on all five sectors!

Eve : Sure! As Eve Neuschwanstein got this one in system, I have a little fire power to prove it. (holds a lighter)

Seto : Yeah, that will never work. This is how you light up a fighter. (uses fire technique to lit up the center) That's one! This should be a real trick-or-treating mission! If we like to trick-or-treat kids, then I will give them a trick out of them.

Solva : And I'll give them a treat to smell the feets.

Eve : And then we'll have someting sweet in our lives!

Cryptic Castle Guard : Hey, Pinky! We found one of the hostages was securing?

Amy : What kind of Hostages did you save? (cuts to cream with a towel wrapped around her) Cream? What was she doing here in the castle?

Cryptic Castle Guard: It appears one of your teammates that you disbanded has run off into the castle all by herself. I believe that Eggman had some minor details that her little friend have run off into the castle. But we don't know how these two wandered off and Gemerl was worried sick about her.

Amy : Gemerl, who did we forget?

Seto : You know the brother of that Gizoid, Emerl.

Amy : Wait a sec, Emerl that Gizoid that we carelessly killed have a brother? Eggman created another Gizoid from Emerl's previous data. Why didn't you tell me that before Sonic forcibly killed him?

Cryptic Castle Guard : Because of crimes we carelessly commited, we don't know how a Gizoid was able to find herself worried that Sonic killed his brother before by Eggman's fault and that causes Gemerl to be enraged and decided to turn on him.

Amy : And Cheese, you know Cheese the Chao, Cream's sidekick/friend. Do you know where did he wandered off to?

*BOOM!*

Cryptic Castle Guard : We haven't got much time! More enemy intrusion is coming up at sector C! We need Lantern #2 to lit up!

Seto : No biggies! Just leave it to me, the world's greatest Shinigami that puts evil to their knees!

Cryptic Castle Guard : Then hop to it!

(Scene slides)

Seto : (Lits up lantern with a fire technique) Okay! That's #3 I set up more of the defenses! Now to Lantern #4. You do know where Lantern #4?

Solva : Yeah, I don't think that Lantern #4 is outside the castle, it's inside the castle, but I reconsider that much of a threat of what's inside the castle.

Seto : What's inside the Castle?

(scene slides)

Seto : Are you serious? I have to lit Lantern #4 over there!?

Solva : Well this is where the last remaining defenses are.

Eve : Yeah, you should reconsider going there, but I'm gonna head out to the Underground Area to find out what the exit will be.

Solva : Uhh, Earth to Eve Neuschwanstein! That passageway to the exit is infested with a--

*Creature Shrieking*

Eve : (drops entrance) Oh my God.... (shivers in fear as her colors drains) What the hell was in there?!

Seto : A Giant Walker creature.

Eve : Why would there be a monster sleeping in the passageway! Do you know how dangerous that was! The Goal Ring was underneath castle while there's a giant monster that resides in the underground area of a passageway!

Seto : You sure that you don't exit the castle.

Eve : I'll...pass, thank you very much. I hope I will recolor self. Note to self, never go down that passageway.

Seto : (uses a small flame and throws to the lantern) Okay! Now for the last one. How hard can it be?

Seto : Eh? This is quite a drop! But this is totally easy! *instant transmission* Okay! Last one to drop! (uses fire technique to lit up the last lantern) Lantern #5!

Cryptic Castle Guard : Oh thank you, Seto! You have lit up all five lanterns at the castle! Now Cryptic Castle can be finally protected from Black Dooms invasions! Look! (the Black Dooms retreating and being frightened are shown) The Black Arms are retreating! What a look on their faces! No candies for the aliens, now that's a good trick out of them and I'll certianly give you a treat.

Seto : Now they'll make us smell our feat and give us something sweet! All in a day's work, my friend.

Alpha Team Leader : (via radio) This is Alpha Team! Enemy Intrusion has finally stopped! The Black Arms have retreated and all defenses have been activated! Mission accomplished!

1. The character everyone gets wrong: SONIC!!!! I know things can be read differently by different people but I really feel like Sonic's aroaceness is a HUGE part of his character. Like it's so fucking obvious but he's the mAiN ChaRAcTer so we gotta pair him up with fucking someone. The only Sonics that don't fit this is Boom Sonic who is obviously divorced and Archie Sonic who gets WAY too many bitches. And I chose to ignore that one fucking line in Frontiers. It just... is there. It came out of no where. Sonic since when did you... anyways. OKAY SO. Sonic has really never been interested in anyone, ever. He is clearly uncomfortable/disinterested in Amy's advancements and their relationship really shines when he's FRIENDS with her. BECAUSE HE'S AROACE. HE DOESN'T HAVE ROMANTIC FEELINGS. I MEAN. LOOK AT HIM. LOOK AT HOW HE ACTS. THAT MAN IS AROACE. He's a guy who loves adventure and doesn't stick around. Guy's ALWAYS on the move. He is NOT the "Settle down" with someone type. He has so many friends because not only does he manage to help all those around him but. It's what he wants! He has friends everywhere and that's all he needs! Like come on people I will EXPLODE someone who GIVES A SHIT about who he's gonna be with. And then the people who DO ship him with someone tear down his character to "Soft cuddly guy!" I feel like I'm at least SOMEWHAT good enough at reading characters. 4. What was the last straw that finally made you block that annoying person?: I actually can't think of any instance. Generally once someone starts bothering me I just block them right away. And most of the time someone I've been following for a while shows their true colours. Like this one blog I followed for YEARS, reblogged something saying fictional incest is okay because it's fictional! Lol! Lmao! Blocked right away. Piss off with that. Explode. Or those "Fiction doesn't effect reality" types. It does... no matter how little you think it doesn't it still does man. But this is more general instead of one instance. 7. What character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because of how the fandom acts about them?: I'm so sorry but Sally. I can't fucking stand Sally's name because I hate how it sounds (The autism) so I already was just okay with her. I watched Satam and like... she's fine I guess. Generic girl character who keeps the wild boy in check and makes all the plans. I also didn't like her design and that's a huge part of a character to me. So I had a slightly negative opinion about her. I kept on seeing posts about how Sally should come back in IDW or the games and first off, how would they do that in a natural way and second off WHAT DOES SHE BRING TO THE TABLE. NOTHING!!! SHE HAS NO UNIQUE CHARACTER TRAITS. Amy is a very good leader and people person, Whisper is patient and has that mysterious past (Not royalty but still), and Tangle has that energy and incredible fighting skill. Oh and Tails has the tech savvy. Like you could change her character but then it's not Sally coming back anymore, so what's the point there. She's just boring. I'm sorry Sally enjoyers but I really can't see her appeal. Even in Archie she was overshadowed (First comes to mind is Charmy was the hidden royalty, Rotor is good with electronics), which isn't her fault but she's a character supposed to be entertaining, nothing about her was. I guess the appeal is what can you can add to her character? But I'm not a big fan of those types. So yeah I saw her too much when I already didn't like her and most of it was wanting her back. Which wouldn't make any fucking sense. And like let them rest, they've had like 20 years to shine. Let the IDW characters shine. (TANGLE I LOVE YOU TANGLE!!!!!)

Marvel's Loki series just released its penultimate episode this week, and while the story has been wild, one thing hasn't changed and that's the excellence of Loki's score. Composer Natalie Holt has created arguably the best score in the MCU, one that's fresh and memorable, quirky and sweeping. It's certainly made audiences take notice.

Holt spoke to Screen Rant about the challenge of creating a whole new sci-fi musical landscape for Marvel, the freedom of having a character like Loki to lead her, the hardest piece to score, and more.

It's a very different genre and world from pretty much everything you've scored before. Did you find it daunting to have to create a whole new sonic landscape or did you find you really relished the challenge of playing with a very specific sound unique to a comic book sci-fi series?

Natalie Holt: I always have to be led by the story and by the characters and the scale of the music is really dictated to me by what I'm seeing and what I'm reading in the script. I guess the things I've done before, you know, I've done a drama for BBC which was about victims of sex trafficking rings and it was based on a real-life story. It was just these three girls and it felt like it had to be small and intimate and emotional and, yeah, I've worked on stories which have felt smaller in scale. And now this is the universe and the Time-Keepers and this god, and I knew it definitely needed to have a bigger scope than anything I've had to score before. So it felt like a really exciting challenge. I pieced it together and just had to go with the sound I heard in my head when reading the script and watching Tom Hiddleston's performances. I felt like it was okay to go there because what everyone else involved was offering and what everyone was giving me, that kind of guidance. It felt like it was okay to go to those places.

There are a number of distinct sounds and musical beats, like the theremin and the clock ticking, throughout the score. Did you play around with any obsolete or strange instruments or non-musical items to help create the soundscape?

Natalie Holt: You know, the tape machine almost became an instrument in itself because I was recording things onto it, sampling different types of clocks and church bells and stuff. Then I'd play it through the tape machine and slow it down and kept getting these weird, distorted sounds, and they were almost unrecognizable from the things they were originally. So that was quite fun to just play around with distorting sounds.

But also, I met Charlie [Draper], this theremin enthusiast before lockdown. Before I'd even heard about Loki, we'd worked on this musical project for an ad agency. So he's got this 1929 RCA theremin designed by Leon Theremin. I think there are only about 140 of them now and most of those aren't even workable anymore. So he had this instrument that was basically used for all those classic sci-fi soundtracks because for decades they were the only thing people could get their hands on. And Charlie also got a Big Briar 91A theremin, which was designed by Bob Moog and an ondes Martenot, which is bit like a theremin but more mellow. So it was amazing, knowing Charlie and knowing that Kate wanted to use a theremin, it was like, "Okay, I know who to use for this." And Charlie's a huge Marvel fan so he was just brilliant. I was sending him my ideas and he'd just send back recordings of him performing them on the theremin and he'd give me different versions on all the instruments he had, as well, so he was just an amazing collaborator on this as well. So yeah, he was on the pitch to get the job.

Speaking of, how did you get this Loki job? Did they reach out to you or did you reach out to them with a pitch?

Natalie Holt: It was just a general callout. I think there was a thing that went around to a few agents and Marvel was really looking for female composers. So that's already amazing that they're trying to give these bigger opportunities to female composers and that they were looking for people they wanted to try that they'd perhaps not heard of, hence that general callout. My agent had this unidentified Marvel pitch so I sent him my show reel. I just felt like there was a huge amount of luck involved with me getting the job. I remember someone at film school saying, "Everyone gets their moment, you just have to recognize when it is," and I remember being like, this has got that moment written all over it - it's a Marvel pitch! I spent ages on the pitch and recorded loads of live elements and did loads of research. I just wanted to really impress everybody and win the job.

Was there anything you had composed that, when you looked at it with the footage, you realized just wasn't working?

Natalie Holt: Yeah, the scene where Loki and Sylvie, you know, their connection scene in episode 4 where they set off the TVA alarm bells and it's so off the grid off what should be happening there. That one was really hard to get the right tone for. If it was too subtle, it didn't play right. I tried a much more understated version of it and then I just did this bombastic, love-in-space, the world is ending sound, just this huge, sweeping love moment and it just seemed to work with whatever it is that they brought to the table. I mean, I don't think anyone quite knows what's between them, whether it's this narcissistic moment or the system or whatever the connection they have to each other, it's still something really powerful. But yeah, that was the most challenging thing to score.

Right. I mean, it's Loki. His character is so big and bombastic and mercurial at times. Did you find his character being who he is helped you feel more comfortable opening up to do more experimental things?

Natalie Holt: Yeah! Like I was saying before, I'm always very led by the narrative and the characters. I would never want people to come away from something I scored like, "Oh my God, she just tried to impose her music all over the story and it didn't go with it at all." I'm always trying to be really empathetic to what's going on and support it. There's a fine line between dominating it and supporting it. I think Tom's performance, it is big enough to take a kind of big, beefy musical piece and handle it. But then also, there's that moment when he's walking down the corridor and Mobius is pruned and he has these tears in his eyes, you can take it to this really heartfelt place, you're really feeling these feelings for him when he's sad, as well. He's got everybody on sight caring about his character.

Have you gotten to see it yet? Have you watched all of it?

Natalie Holt: I'm a total control freak. I find it really hard to let go. So I was like, "When's the dub?" and they were like, "It's going to be 2 a.m." and I said, "That's fine, I'll be there!" because I wanted to make sure that the levels were right. They were like, "You're the first composer who has ever come to the dub." They were about to sign off on it and I was messaging Kate [Herron]: "Can we please turn it up where he's doing this or that?" It's just really hard to let go of a project and I wanted to hear how it sounded on the speakers, so yeah, I've watched it. [laughs]
