i know i keep lunging at shadows with drag but hokay the thing is, its about being an exaggerated performer of gender right? highlighting the absurdity of the whole thing? but then also "exaggerated performer of gender" is also just... the thing that people in a transmisogynistic society (read: all of us) are taught that transfemininity is. and i don't blame drag for that perception, but i am critical of the fact that drag can be especially palatable for the kind of person who is themselves queer or enjoys queer culture but who has not questioned their own biases against specifically transfem people. and then it becomes the primary means through which they view transfem people. and it creates a feedback loop, and their idea of transfemininity is based on a very specific subset of tma people, a scene that a lot of other tma people feel (justifiably, imo) put off from. and it results in people walking up to transfems not understanding that "yeah you're like, doing some exaggerated act of womanhood, right?" is in fact incredibly insulting.
