It's fine! If you got the DVD and watched it from there, then I can definitely understand why the episode would be your first exposure. Totally forgot there was an O Games DVD that came out lol.

My advice still stands, though! If you're interested in watching "Zero Effect", there's a handy masterpost here that you can refer to where you can easily watch it plus other episodes if you're so inclined.

So I watched The O Games (Odd Squad)...

I genuinely did not like it.

The jokes do not land, the educational content is barely fucking there, and it was boring.

Cyberchase is more educational and more fun, at least in my opinion. It's a better alternative.

This show? One star, would not recommend.

See, this is why I've had the idea of making a "where to start" guide for newbies to the show for ages now. There have been multiple discussions in the fandom across 10 years (really!) about what episodes are best to show someone new to the show and, at least in my opinion, "The O Games" is decidedly not one of them because it's tied to the story arc of the season.

Also, the educational content is meant to be hidden. That is the entire fucking point, to be obscure -- so kids, as one of the primary demos, can learn math and STEM concepts without it being in their faces enough to where it bores them and turns them off to said concepts. Compare it with other PBS Kids shows, where the educational content is more obvious and in-your-face. (I don't feel confident enough to state Cyberchase as an example because I haven't watched it in a very long time, just seen people talk about it in a more negative light now.)

You're better off checking out "Zero Effect" (and by extension, "Bad Luck Bears") rather than going blind into the middle of the season. First episode of the series, introduces the main characters, and shows you exactly what you can expect from the franchise overall. If you don't like the series after that, more power to you.

Odd Squad doesn't appeal to everyone, and that's perfectly okay. But throwing yourself into a random episode, watching it, and saying "nah, this ain't it", while saying what is better is a show that has long since scrapped the math angle entirely, is completely nonsensical to me and boggles my mind. Entitled to your opinion you are, but I'm willing to see if I can flip people's minds with some good old-fashioned "erm eckshuelleh" education. Let's see if I succeed.
