Actually, the creator CAN turn off auto dubbing, either on a video-by-video basis or for their entire channel.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I only speak English and haven't encountered any auto dubs in the wild, though from what I've heard, the translation isn't very good. Likely on the same level as their captions auto translation.
That said, I don't think auto dubbing is a bad use of AI. It's not stealing content from creators — it's opening up videos to people who don't understand the creator's spoken language. While a couple of very large channels have had their videos professionally translated and dubbed, that's something your average small channel won't have the funds/access to, certainly not to the scale of 20+ languages.
Of course, it also only works if it's actually good, which machine translation is always going to be wonky since it doesn't understand the nuances of language or how it evolves.
youtube
"Youtube is applying post-processing to all shorts so they look more like Al. this is intentional & malicious. when their generative Al shorts feature launches users will be less likely to discern what's Al-slop and what's not, and the audience will think Al video is just as good"
Please be aware.
If everything starts to look a little off and a little fake, it's much easier for bad actors to not only push through actual disinformation, but also attempt to discredit factual video sources.

The konichiwaaa scene is just so abysmal unfunny, and I know it can’t be Ben Schwartz fault , that guy can be funny and has a lot funny lines in Ducktales 2017
I mean he was just saying what he was told to say and he's a good actor! It's just such an out of place moment and awkward line in general.
There's also the random "Detective Pikachu" joke that is woefully unfunny. Actually I think the only jokes I enjoyed were Sonic being bitter at Eggman, the Shadow "boo" line and the "'what did you do?' 'I don't know, I do a lot of things.'"

Saw that one anon saying that movie sonic fans can't be sonic fans and compared it to dcu/mcu fans not being dc/marvel fans and like. As someone in both those fandoms I assure you that people from the movies who haven't touched a comic are still fans lol. The comics can be hard to get into and that intimates a Lot of people. Liking the sonic movies make you just as much of a sonic fan as someone who plays the games or someone who reads the comics. Especially since a lot of fans don't stay exclusive to the one media/canon. Like they might be exclusively a movie fan now but not wanting them around is only going to discourage them from enjoying sonic further y'know?

I'm often really dedicated to the visual quality and authenticity of the memes I make, but like idk if I could ever make another human being care about that. I used the proper font and color picked the correct color and sized everything correctly and used the alignment tool to get the spacing right and redrew the nebula background and spent way too long messing with the drop shadow settings to mimic the original text. Skyrim media literacy 0 skill meme. If you care.

Wait why wouldn’t the books be canon?
Because they follow the same story, but change some details, thus creating contradictions. They're retellings, adaptations.
At least so I've heard. I've only seen talks about how certain scenes were handled and little snippets here and there.

I don’t know if you knew this but the movies have a novel that fills in the missing gaps that the films don’t supply. Some SCU blogs like welcome to green hills have tried to comb through the books to answer some of the questions that the movie doesn’t answer.
Maybe try reading some of the books to see if they’re better?
I'm aware of the novelizations, they're very common with movies.
Frankly I just don't care enough to read them. Maybe if I was 15 and madly diving into anything Sonic I could find again, I'd give it a shot, but the domestic life of the SCU doesn't interest me enough to experience the stories in a slower way. Annnd one that's harder to focus on. My dyslexia has kept me from being an avid reader my whole life, literally the only series I ever read was warrior cats and I don't know how I did that
Also, they're not canon to the movies. The novels make changes and while some might prefer them to the films, they're technically a retelling and not supplemental material.

Finally someone else says the Sonic movies aren’t good , I felt like I was in the twilight zone when everyone called Sonic 3 the best movie, it’s as if just having Shadow be there makes it enough for it to be a good movie ? Why aren’t fans concerned about the dialog ? The plot ? The characters motivations?? Anything ??
Hype moments and aura. People tend to be fine with the surface level approach in Sonic as long as he looks cool.
And to be fair, the movie does have some pretty good action scenes. It can be fun, but only if you turn your brain off.
Personally, I've been thinking about it. They still could've followed the same plot, but had it make sense with a few tweaks.
For example, Sonic immediately trusting GUN:
He could've initially passed on it, saying it's not his problem they're getting their butts kicked, until he learns people are getting hurt. He could also voice his displeasure of using him to clean up their mess (when he was also once considered the mess to clean up), leaving room for the "low budget flights" comment to come from a place of contempt. Also opens up Sonic not going there to arrest Shadow like a cop but to access the situation and simply stop the destruction. He's just here to help the civilians, not out of loyalty to GUN.
How characters react and what drives them is important, in this case, Sonic learned in movie 2 that saving people is what heroes do, so it continues that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You could also still have Shadow be an alien that was found, but in studying, his immunity to pathogens gets discovered, thus prompting Gerald to fixate on using Shadow to cure Maria. (Yeah, keep her immunodeficiency! It gives Gerald something to do that isn't just "his job".)
They can still dance, watch movies, even get away with skating around because "it helps her mentally". Just now there's a reason to bring Maria in with Shadow, for Gerald to disobey rules, recklessly use Shadow's powers which prompts GUN to shut it down, even giving Shadow extra guilt for not being able to cure her in time to stop the tragedy. Also gives Gerald extra anger because not only did they kill Maria, but they had been trying to stop him from saving her.
Those little details would fix two of my biggest fundamental issues with the movie while adding character depth.
It would take a few extra minutes of run-time, though they could've cut down the Jim Carrey gags some if length was that much of an issue.
Those things alone wouldn't fix all my issues with the movie, such as the stilted dialogue, half-hearted revenge parallels, lack of active manipulation from Gerald, Gerald getting zero screen time to establish his relationship with Shadow and Maria before the accident, Team Sonic's ultimately stupid plan of stealing the key, just to name a few.
But all of that would be more minor except maybe the keys part if the starting motivation was stronger.
My mom actually was a beta reader for a friend's book and she loved it, though the one criticism she had was the lack of motivation for even starting everything. The characters went to a place and decided to save it, but had no reason behind it, no overall goal or desire that was dependent on this location being safe. They just went on the journey to save it because that's what the plot demanded. This is the definition of story moving the characters instead of characters moving the story.
The writer took that to heart and by adding that detail, the whole book holds up a lot better.
And in that sense, is the main reason Sonic 3 lost me.

It's exposition and basically falls in line with the overall writing quality of the whole film.
This was how I described it to a friend of mine:
Tumblr media
I will take every opportunity to bully Xenoblade 3 with it's preachy, spelled-out messaging.
Actually I didn't feel a need to mention their conversation specifically because this issue plagues the entire movie. Here, the moon scene, literally everything relating to Shadow...
It's shallow and lacking all nuance with it's in-your-face theme.
Their talk with Walters does not sound like a real conversation and certainly not something that this guy would say.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was a little more...eccentric? That's one reason him just solemnly explaining Shadow's backstory (and his whole character in general) felt off. He was a treated as a punchline for the past two movies and now he's the sympathetic commander explaining an emotional story?
I don't even understand why Sonic hears the explanation, gets entrusted with the key, and immediately decides GUN is untrustworthy.
Tumblr media
Like their commander just put a lot of faith in you and you didn't mind helping the organization out just a bit ago.
Anyways, as you said, the talk is ham-fisted and really wants you to see Sonic and Shadow as two sides of the same coin. The thing is...I never quite agreed that they mirrored each other that well.
Sonic lost Longclaw and spent years just spying on people and having fun messing with them, not trying to wipe out and punish everyone. He was hurting, but worked to move on and live.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shadow's fresh out the goo happy to kill people because Gerald says that's healthy, actually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only thing they really have in common is they both were dropped on this planet and each lost someone (which isn't unique). The reason for revenge that connects them —Tom getting hurt— isn't even what they reconcile over, no, that's Longclaw. Plus, Tom lives. I think that's an important part.
In that sense, Knuckles lost his whole family and while not seeking revenge exactly, still went to finish the feud with the last of Longclaw's tribe (Sonic). He's then taken advantage of by someone using him for their own gain (Eggman). You wanna go further, in the movie 2 pre-quill comic, Knuckles is taken and his power used (for entertainment, he wins his freedom.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has more in common with Shadow than Sonic does! But I think they wanted to play on the "faker" thing even though that doesn't actually matter here in the slightest.
Basically to conclude this tangent that went very off topic, Shadow's role in the story is very similar to Knuckles's and was done better in movie 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do gotta ask, after how much of a joke he was in the previous movies, why are they suddenly acting like Walters is an endearing character?
After all that's happened, why does he even trust Sonic with something so important?
