The nickname “Snivellus” derives from the word “snivel,” which means crybaby. So, Snivellus was basically a way of mocking the fact that Severus might show his emotions—that instead of toughing it out like a stereotypical, macho, strong, hairy-chested man, he cried. I don’t think I need to explain why this nickname is problematic—any nickname used to bully someone is problematic—but a nickname that also references a supposed weakness, stemming from the expectations of a patriarchal society for men to display “unmanly” behavior typical of “weak” men, is not just problematic due to the bullying itself but also because of the misogynistic implications it carries. Because yes, misogyny and hegemonic gender roles also affect men by demanding certain traits from them to validate them socially. And I know the Marauders lived in the 1970s, and that Rowling is one of the worst when it comes to gender issues. But I find it quite ironic how Marauders Stans or Slytherin Skittles, who have built their trash fandom and constant Snape-bashing around the topic of LGBTQ+ themes, have the audacity to mock Snape using a nickname that directly attacks gender nonconformity and justifies a toxic, traditional masculinity that shames men who cry or show emotions, labeling them as less valid.
The Marauders weren’t social justice warriors, and James and Sirius, in particular, embodied the classic values of male success through the performance of stereotypical “macho” characteristics: as leaders, as “alphas” of the pack. Both are violent; both are cocky men who try to stand out and mark their territory. Both exhibit behaviors that have typically been excused in men just because they are men, such as abusive and reckless behavior. Their nickname for Severus stems from the idea that showing emotions—especially crying—if you are a man, is a reason for ridicule and mockery because men don’t cry. Men are supposed to be strong, puff out their chests, and keep going because that’s what men do. It’s a misogynistic and archaic mindset that continues to be perpetuated in social models and relationships to this day. And I find it incredibly hypocritical that certain people who claim to hate J.K. Rowling for being a transphobe then go on to appropriate the horribly sexist nicknames she created for a group of heterosexual men embodying toxic masculinity to bully another man for not performing the traditional masculine model expected of someone like him.
Because Severus wasn’t a “macho”. Severus was a studious introvert with a more passive character who didn’t fit into the masculine vision of the time. Everything about him, including his appearance, demeanor, and interests, is unmasculine from a hegemonic perspective given the historical context. But these people don’t care. They’re so limited, so ignorant, and so cynical that they not only ignore these kinds of nuances but even find it funny to reproduce insults that any real-life James Potter would probably have used against them.
Make no mistake: James Potter and Sirius Black wouldn’t have been your friends. They would have tortured you as much, if not more, than Snape. And that’s the most pathetic part of their fandom, unfortunately.

and what about it?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Continuation of this storyline. Barty and you keep bickering, to everyone's chagrin and no one's surprise – until you kiss, that is.
Words: 3.1k
Warnings: not proofread, use of y/n, absolute chaos going down, bickering, flirting, barty being maniacal and a bit masochistic, jegulus and wolfstar as supportive characters, literally everyone is silly in this
Note: you demand and i supply! i love these idiots
next part here!
The Hogwarts library was filled by a mix of quiet whispers and faint shuffling, with students huddled at tables pretending to study for the upcoming exams. In the very back, though, far away from the more studious lot, the Marauders and company had claimed their usual table, where studying was more of a suggestion than an actual plan.
James and Regulus sat closest to the end of the long table, side by side in that annoyingly close way that proved they were still very much in their honeymoon phase. James had his chair tilted back, arms stretched out casually behind Regulus, while Regulus, with an almost imperceptible smile, tried to look like he was paying attention to his Potions book.
“You know, love,” James started, leaning in a little closer to Regulus, “you don’t actually have to study right now. We could always… take a break.”
“Take a break from what exactly?” Sirius interjected, still hunched over the parchment he was doodling on. “You haven’t done a single productive thing in the last hour, Prongs.”
James huffed, but didn’t move away from Regulus, who was still pretending he couldn’t hear any of them. “I don’t see you doing any work, Pads.”
Sirius glanced at his doodles – an elaborate sketch of a Quidditch goal post being struck by lightning – before smirking. “This is art, mate. Very productive.”
Remus, who was sitting beside Sirius and perhaps the only one taking actual notes, sighed without looking up. “You two are hopeless. Some of us are actually trying to pass our exams.”
“Oh, Moony, live a little,” Sirius grinned, pushing his sketch toward him. “What do you think? Could sell this to the Daily Prophet, right?”
Remus didn’t even spare it a glance. “Absolutely not.”
Across the table, you were trying your best to focus on the notes in front of you, quill scratching against parchment. But the conversation around you, mixed with the ongoing flirtation between James and Regulus, was doing its best to pull you out of your concentration.
“Regulus, would you mind being disgustingly in love with Jamie a bit quieter?” you groaned, tossing your quill down in frustration, no longer inhibited around Regulus after the past few months. “Some of us are trying to focus.”
Regulus did not deign you with a glance, though his lips quirked up slightly. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Sirius snorted. “Yeah, right. You’ve been staring at Prongs like he’s your favourite broomstick all day. You two are worse than me when I got my new motorbike.”
“Oh, don’t act like you weren’t gushing about that motorbike for literal months,” James fired back, a grin spreading across his face. “This is karma, mate.”
Before Sirius could come up with a retort, you shot another glare at James and Regulus, feeling your patience wearing thin. “I swear, if I have to witness one more doe-eyed moment between you two, I’m hexing you both.”
Barty, who had been uncharacteristically quiet up until now, leaned back in his chair beside you, smirking. “What did love ever do to you, Treasure?”
You shot him an unimpressed look. “It's quite obnoxious, for one.”
Barty grinned wider, clearly enjoying himself. “Don't you want to be obnoxiously in love?” he teased.
"I'd rather drink poison. Which I will, if you don't start focusing on our potions project soon." You rapped the textbook in front of him with your quill.
“Oh, come now, darling, you know I'd never do that to you,” Barty teased, lowering his voice in that infuriatingly smug way. “And there's no need to be jealous of Reggie – you could have all this romance if you wanted.”
You fixed him with a deadpan look. “With you? I’d rather go mad.”
“Already driving you mad, am I?” Barty shot back smoothly, leaning in just enough to make the air between you shift. “I must be doing something right.”
Sirius let out a loud, exaggerated groan from across the table. “Merlin, can you two ever go five minutes without throwing insults at each other?”
“No,” you and Barty said in unison, which earned a laugh from Remus and an eye roll from Sirius.
“I think they secretly like it,” James chimed in, finally pulling his attention away from Regulus just long enough to catch the tail end of your and Barty’s exchange. “You know, some people just communicate through bickering. It's their language.”
You crossed your arms, glaring at James. “I don’t bicker. He bickers. I’m just trying to survive.”
“You wound me,” Barty said, pressing a hand to his chest with mock hurt. “And here I thought you enjoyed our little chats.”
“If by ‘chats’ you mean listening to you go on and on about how brilliant you think you are, then sure,” you shot back, arching an eyebrow. “I live for those.”
“I am brilliant, though,” Barty replied, completely unfazed, his smirk growing even wider. “You’ve just yet to admit it.”
You snorted. “The only thing brilliant about you is your ability to push my buttons, when we should be studying, Junior.”
“No need to study when we both know I'll ace it regardless." You hated that he was right. "I prefer putting in the work where it matters."
You quirked a brow at him. “Sounds like laziness to me.”
“It's called priorities,” he corrected, eyes gleaming with amusement. “And right now, my priority is sitting right in front of me.”
The groan that escaped your lips was loud enough to draw the attention of a few nearby students, but you couldn’t care less. “You’re insufferable.”
“You’ve said that before.”
“Because it’s true.”
“And yet, you keep sitting next to me. Interesting.”
Sirius, clearly unable to help himself, let out another exaggerated sigh. “Merlin, they’re at it again. Can someone put a Silencing Charm on them?”
Remus, who had been quietly enjoying the exchange, smiled into his notes. “I’d say just let them go. They’re only warming up.”
“You’re probably right,” Sirius agreed, glancing between you and Barty as if you couldn't hear him. “Let’s see how long it takes before one of them snaps.”
You rolled your eyes again. “Don't worry, Black, I’m already nearing my limit.”
“Then do something about it, love,” Barty purred, his grin turning devilish.
You leaned in slightly, narrowing your eyes. “I will, as soon as I figure out which hex will shut you up for good.”
Before he could retort, you flicked your wand under the table, sending a tiny jolt toward him that caused him to yelp and jerk back, the smirk dropping from his face momentarily.
James burst out laughing, nearly toppling over his chair. “Oh, that was brilliant.”
Regulus, who had been watching the whole thing with a half-hidden smile, shook his head. “She's going to kill him one day.”
“That’s the plan,” you muttered under your breath, though a small, victorious smile tugged at the corners of your lips.
Barty, however, recovered quickly, his smirk returning full force. “Oh, you love me too much to kill me.”
"I tolerate you at best, Junior."
"Same difference."
"I really don't think it is," James interjected, seemingly lost as his usual role of peacekeeper doesn't work with you and Barty.
"Oh, you just don't know her like I do." Barty's eyes gleamed as he stared at you.
The glare you shot him then was half-hearted at best. “Don’t push it.”
"You know I will," Barty said and winked at you, before closing the small distance between you to press a chaste peck to your lips.
It was quick, casual, and without any fanfare, just a soft press of lips, like it was the most natural thing in the world – because to you it was. You simply hummed into him before finally turning your head down back towards your notes with a satisfied smile, happy for the distracting conversation to be over.
"Excuse me what?!"
You hadn't even spent more than a second looking at your notes before you were interrupted by Sirius's voice.
You looked up to find everyone staring at you.
James had gone completely still, his mouth hanging open in an almost comical expression of shock. Regulus was blinking rapidly, as if trying to process what had just happened, while Sirius had frozen mid-doodle, his quill still in the air.
The only person who wasn’t shocked was Remus, who had broken into quiet, knowing laughter, clearly enjoying the chaos that was about to unfold.
“Wait– wait– hold on a second,” James finally sputtered, pointing between the two of you. “Did you just– did I just see–?”
"Use your words, Potter," Barty drawled out, eyeing the scene with interest.
“You two are– what?!” Sirius repeated, still frozen with his quill in the air. His eyes were practically bulging out of his head as he stared at you and Barty like you had just sprouted tentacles.
Barty, completely unfazed, leaned back in his chair with the most satisfied grin imaginable, casually crossing his arms behind his head. “Dating. Obviously.”
“Obviously?” James sounded like he might actually choke on the word. His glasses were sliding down his nose from the sheer force of his shock. “Obviously?!”
You shrugged, flipping through your notes like nothing at all had just happened. “Yeah. Why are you all acting like this is news?”
“Because it is!” Sirius threw his quill down dramatically, turning fully in his chair to gawk at you both. “Since when are you two... together?”
You exchanged a glance with Barty, who looked more amused than anything. “I dunno,” you said nonchalantly, “a few weeks, maybe?”
“A few weeks?!” James spluttered, his voice going up at least two octaves. He ran a hand through his already disastrous hair, looking utterly dumbfounded. “How– how did none of us know this?”
Barty gave an infuriatingly casual shrug, his smirk only growing wider. “Wasn’t exactly a secret. You lot were just too wrapped up in your own business to notice.”
“Too wrapped up?!” James looked at Regulus, as if his boyfriend might have some hidden answer to this impossible puzzle. Regulus, to his credit, had his head buried in his hands, looking both embarrassed and quietly amused. “Reggie, you didn’t notice?”
Regulus groaned, his face still hidden. “I noticed. I just didn’t want to talk about it.”
Sirius gaped at his brother. “You knew?”
“Well, I guessed, they're not exactly subtle,” Regulus muttered, still hiding behind his hands. “They bicker like they’re married.”
Remus, who had been laughing quietly this whole time, finally spoke up, his voice full of smug amusement. “He’s right, you know. The bickering should’ve been a dead giveaway.”
“Oh, come on,” James said, throwing his hands in the air. “Bickering is just– bickering! We bicker all the time! I bicker with Sirius – doesn’t mean I’m secretly dating him!”
“I should hope not,” Sirius muttered, still looking completely thrown. “You’re not my type.”
James blinked at him, momentarily sidetracked. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing,” Sirius said quickly, waving it off. “Focus, James! The issue here is this.” He gestured wildly between you and Barty. “This... thing they’ve apparently been doing under our noses for weeks.”
"I really think you lot are overreacting," you said, giving everyone a half-glare.
“I can't believe you kissed,” James said, as if just remembering it. “I mean... you kissed. Right there. In front of us. Our Y/N and Junior. Like it's no big deal.”
“It's not” you said, giving him a pointed look. “It’s called a relationship, Potter. People kiss in them.”
James shook his head, looking more confused than ever. “But you two have been acting the same as always! You don't even like each other! Actually, scratch that, you hate each other.”
Barty looked far too pleased with himself as he leaned forward again, resting his elbows on the table. “Oh, darling, you really don't know anything, do you?” he teased at the same time as you said, "And what about it?"
Sirius made a noise somewhere between a gag and a groan. “Ugh, stop. Just stop. This is making me nauseous.”
Remus was practically in tears now, wiping at his eyes as he continued to laugh. “This is... the best thing that's happened today.”
James looked positively ready to combust. "I am so confused." Regulus elbowed Sirius when he whispered what's new?
Barty leaned back again, his grin never faltering. “It's not our fault you were just too busy snogging Reggie here to notice.”
James immediately went red, and Regulus shot Barty a glare, though his lips were twitching with barely suppressed amusement. “Shut up.”
“Oh no, don’t let them turn this around on us,” Sirius cut in, pointing dramatically at you and Barty. “You two are the ones that have been lying this whole time!”
“We weren’t lying,” you said, your tone exasperated now. “You never asked. It’s not our fault you didn’t notice.”
Remus snorted. “To be fair, you do literally nothing to make it obvious. If I didn’t know better, I’d say you were just flirting through arguments.”
“We are flirting through arguments,” Barty said matter-of-factly, earning a sharp look from you.
You jabbed a finger at him, narrowing your eyes. “We are not.”
“We definitely are,” Barty fired back, looking far too pleased with himself. “You think of new ways to insult me every day, and I’ve never been more in love.”
There was an audible groan from Sirius. “Merlin’s beard, I am begging you to stop.”
James had dropped his head to the table by now, shaking it slowly like he couldn’t believe what was happening. “I can’t even process this. I need to lie down. Reg, tell me this isn’t happening.”
Regulus patted James awkwardly on the back. “It’s happening.”
Sirius threw his hands up in the air, officially reaching peak exasperation. “I feel betrayed. Absolutely betrayed. All these weeks – months, even – and no one thought to mention, ‘Oh hey, by the way, Barty and Y/N are snogging’?”
"Shagging," Barty corrected, to which you fully slapped his arm and Regulus winced.
“Disgusting.”
You sighed, resting your chin in your hand. “I don't know what to tell you, Siri. It never came up.”
“Never came up?!” James lifted his head from his hands, looking utterly scandalised. “You’ve been dating for weeks and it never came up?”
“We didn’t feel the need to announce it to the world,” you shot back, now fully irritated with how much of a fuss they were making over this. “We were kind of busy with, you know, being in a relationship.”
“Exactly,” Barty chimed in, his grin back in place. “We were busy... prioritising.”
Regulus, still looking a little embarrassed but clearly entertained, shook his head. “You two are unbelievable.”
Sirius, ever the dramatist, leaned back in his chair, throwing his hands up in defeat. “I give up. Absolutely give up. The world makes no sense anymore.”
“Was it ever making sense to you to begin with?” Remus asked dryly, glancing over at him with a raised brow.
“Not the point, Moony,” Sirius muttered, still looking entirely put out.
Barty shrugged again, looking far too relaxed considering the chaos he’d just unleashed. “You’ll get used to it.”
“I will never get used to this,” Sirius shot back, glaring at Barty like he’d personally offended him.
James let out a long, dramatic sigh, slumping against the table. “I need a drink.”
“And I need new friends,” Sirius added, still shaking his head.
"What you need is to calm down," you muttered under your breath. Sirius's gasp told you that he heard you.
“I’m sorry for wanting to know when one of our friends is secretly dating a complete maniac.”
“Complete maniac?” Barty echoed, feigning hurt. “That’s harsh, Black. I prefer charming rascal.”
“I prefer punchable face." It would have been less convincing if you weren't smiling, leaning more and more into Barty's touch.
He grinned down at you and winked. “You can punch me anytime you wish, Treasure. Make sure it bruises, ‘kay?"
“Oh, enough!” James looked like he might actually lose his mind at this point. “You’ve been complaining about me and Reg, but you two are so much worse.”
Remus, ever the voice of reason, shook his head with a faint smile. “Just let them be. This is obviously how they work. I’m sure we’ll all get used to it eventually.”
James and Sirius exchanged a look that clearly said we absolutely will not, but neither of them said anything. Instead, James let out a long, tired sigh and stood up, ruffling his hair as if to shake off the mental exhaustion of the day. “Right, I need a break from this madness. I’m going to the kitchens. Anyone want to come?”
“Definitely,” Sirius muttered, standing up as well. “I need some food to process this... tragedy.”
Regulus chuckled softly, standing to follow them. “I’ll come with you. Though I’m still not sure why you’re so shocked.”
The boys kept bickering and mumbling between them as they hastily gathered their things, while you made a sound between a scoff and a laugh, leaning into Barty.
“Thank you for this gift,” Remus teased before throwing his backpack over his shoulder. “They will never recover it seems.”
You shook your head, but couldn’t help but smile at how much Remus had enjoyed the chaos. “You’re a bit sadistic, Lupin.”
“Only when it’s deserved,” Remus replied with a wink.
Barty stretched his arms behind his head, looking far too relaxed given the absolute meltdown that had just taken place. “Well, now that we’ve gotten that out of the way... care to finish that kiss?”
You shot him a glare, though your lips twitched upward. “You’re lucky I don’t leave you after the drama you’ve caused me.”
Barty grinned. “You wouldn’t dare. You like me too much.”
“You know, the fact that you two are dating somehow makes your bickering worse,” Remus said, still within airshot.
“We aim to please.”.
You rolled your eyes but didn’t argue. “Come on, let’s get out of here before Sirius comes back with his 'and another thing's”
Barty stood up, offering you a hand with a smirk. “As you wish, Treasure.”
You took his hand, but not without giving him a playful shove as you walked past him. “Keep talking, and I might change my mind.”
“I’d still win you over,” he replied, completely confident.
As you walked off together, hand in hand, you couldn’t help but think that maybe this chaos wasn’t such a bad thing after all. After all, you had Barty, and you were both having far too much fun watching everyone lose their minds over it.

Sirius Orion Black being the tallest, strongest, smartest, most powerful, and most attractive Marauder. Everyone in the castle wants a piece of him. He’s slept with most of the people in their year, along with the ones above and below theirs. He is, quite literally, the Casanova of Gryffindor Tower. He doesn’t study, but he still gets straight Os in every single class. He takes every single course for his NEWTs and gets Os in all of them. He’s one of those people that’s good at everything he gets his hands on. He’s friends with most people in Hogwarts, and has all sorts of connections with all sorts of people in every single social circle.
Enter Remus John Lupin, his geeky, awkward, kind of ugly, virgin, dork, studious, average height boyfriend. His idea of a wild evening is sitting in a corner, reading a book with some mildly sexual content with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate. He clings to Sirius’ arm in social circumstances, twiddling his thumbs and silently watching everyone.
No one understands how, exactly, they got together. Everyone just knows that they’re absolutely adorable and madly in love.

Some thoughts on Lily Evans (Headcanons and other musings)
Headcanon things
---I think she really struggled internally about "not belonging" in both the muggle and wizard community. I couldn't imagine finding out I was part of some special group that made my family members ostracize me, THEN joining said new community to find that I am actually discriminated against and considered lesser. I don't think she was on the nerd level of say Hermione, but I think she really wanted to prove herself.
--I don't think she wore a bra. I use this in my fics a lot not just because it could be taken sexy, but because it would've been trendy at the time in the 70s. I think Lily would have kept up with the politics of the muggles and the wizarding world, and I would imagine she would be keen to follow the feminist movement.
--I'm really not of fan of the swarmy, bookish version of Lily that purveyed often in fics (I see more diversity now but back 10 years ago Lily was like some studious angel all the time.) We know she was smart and teachers loved her, but we also see a lot of anger and cheekiness from her too. I think James wouldn’t have been half as attracted to her if she was just a know it all. I imagine she was really sarcastic and quippy.
--I think Lily thought about fancying Remus in earlier years---to the point that in 4th year she turned on him quickly one day during prefects rounds and kissed him, immediately realized she felt nothing, and then they both agreed to stay friends and never speak of it (James would have died if he knew). After then, Lily had the habit of giving him a kiss on the cheek as greeting/goodbye (think of it as the french bisous, not like a real cheek kiss) and Sirius would always joke about "Where his kiss was"---which prompted Lily to draw real close to him ( making James feel jealous and uncomfortable) before yelling at him to fuck off.
--When Sirius and Lily became friends, they really became friends. They both confided in each other about being the family outsiders, they spent lots of study time listening to music, and she was always able to keep up with his sarcastic and self deprecating style of humor. Whenever Sirius would conjure rock music to play in the corridors, Lily always was the last of the prefects to put a stop to it. She would often spend time in the boys dorms even if James wasn't there to shoot the shit with Sirius and she often was his insider into all the cool muggle things he missed out on.
---Petunia peddled the idea that Lily was a "Hippie type" to Vernon and her friends upon being questioned and Lily really leaned into this gladly. She was very amused by the muggle occult craze in the 60s-70s and found a lot of enjoyment visiting muggle "esoteric shops" and getting books from them. This trait would later be adopted by the marauders who would take some of her muggle “occult magic” books and try to reproduce the (ridiculously fake) spells (often leading in explosions or very bad consequences seeing as the muggle “spells” were all a hoax and couldn’t stand up to real magical attempts). When she was home from the summer it was not uncommon for her to be reading a book by Aleister Crowley on the front stoop.
---Lily hated flying despite James' many tries to get her to enjoy it (he mostly liked that she was scared and held onto him more). Contrary to this, she loved Sirius motorbike. It felt more natural to her despite still being a flying object ( and despite both James and Sirius flying it in the most haphazard way possible.)
--One thing that drew Lily to James was his interest and love for muggle pop culture. I imagine Lily tried often to get Snape to listen to Joni Mitchell or have a laugh at how muggles depicted wizards/witches in film, but Snape didn't see the worth in doing those things---wanting to focus on the wizarding world. James on the other hand ate all of it up--he would jump at the chance to watch Carrie or The Wicker Man. Even before dating James, I think Snape's disdain for all things muggle was off putting to Lily, who saw just as much to learn from muggles as she did from the wizarding world.
Reference things
---I base a lot of my fic Petunia/Lily relationships off of the British show Fleabag. I HIGHLY recommend it and I think its a great example of two sisters who are completely at odds with each other. I think Lily and Petunia's relationship would be much more complicated obviously due to their reasoning for falling out, but I think in general its a great depiction of two sisters who don't get along. I admittedly have cradled their dialogue patterns for scenes. ( Its on Amazon prime really really really go watch it its amazing)
---One of my big references for Lily ( and James for that matter) is Paul Thomas Anderson's Licorice Pizza. I think the love story of the two main characters who are at odds against the world really works and its the typical Jily "one is madly in love with the other and does schemes to win her over while she's sarcastic and wary and grows to love him despite it all." Its also the 70s which helps a lot ( for me). I think also Alana Haim's character is a perfect lily as she's someone who is a bit lost despite having everything going for her on paper. I highly reccomend it if you haven't seen it.

No more 1 dimensional Slytherins anymore PLEASE
Idc if its oc’s or head canon but please make them unique
Dont get me wrong i love the way some Slytherins are portrayed in a more traditional matter on how they act as it adds to their character like my bbg Severus and Tom Riddle, but ONLY because it works and make sense for their characters
But im also tired or the same old cruel, selfish, and cold way most people believe Slytherins to be based on how she who must not be named wrote most of them but God Damm acting like this isn’t what makes up Slytherin house.
Cunningness, Pride, Resourcefulness, and Ambition are all traits of Slytherin. People can have all of these traits and not be bad or cruel or cold or mean and bratty & whatever else people describe them as.
I want to see a goofy Slytherin who’s pranks and mischievous nature we have similarly seen in the Weasley twins or the marauders (no matter how much i dislike them but I digress),
Or a quite Slytherin who manages to always find a way to get them and their friends out of trouble,
Or literally anything else than Slytherin = pure blood supremacy = Cold and Snarky = Bad
And this doesn’t just apply to Slytherin, I want multiple demential characters from ALL the houses. I don’t like how many people view Hufflepuffs as shy or gentle solely because of their house, and ravenclaw as studious nerds who does nothing but devote themselves to their study, and Gryffindors as brave and kind soles who fight for whats right.
Because this is unrealistic, people will never fit into a perfect little box based on some traits that describe them when they were eleven. People will always be different and unique and thats what makes life beautiful. And brave doesnt mean good and loyal doesnt mean a pushover and intelligence doesn’t mean schoolacholics and most of all
Cunning doesn’t mean bad.

29th November - Hogwarts Library - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 416
He didn't really need to study much before a test. Much to the frustration of the rest of the Marauders he had a habit of announcing that he was "Done" and that if he "spent anymore time pushing new stuff in it would push all the things he already knew out" before slamming his books closed. He'd try and get a good night sleep - which he found difficult as a chronic insomniac - and swore by a decent breakfast, a quick whizz about the Quidditch Pitch before joining his nervous classmates in the classroom and, usually, acing the test.
But if Remus asked him to study, then he'd be there.
This time, it was a particularly fiendish Transfiguration test that McGonagall had devised so as to "Give their brains something to do before the Christmas break." Sirius hadn't felt much like studying. Already, there was the sense that things should be winding down. The last trip to Hogsmeade of the year was coming up. The week after that, the decorations would appear, and then no one would be getting much of anything done.
It seemed almost unfair of McGonagall to set a test given the circumstances.
Still, Sirius supposed, there were worse ways to spend a Thursday evening.
Sirius looked up and across the desk to Remus, who was staring thoughtfully down at his book. It would have been cold in the library. But Madam Pinch had taken pity on them and agreed to light the fire.
They were the only students that remained. A small group of third years had left over an hour ago. The sun had slipped from the sky, and Madam Pinch had illuminated the desk lamps with a flick of her wand.
They sent strange, soft green shadows across Remus' face that deepened his look of studious concentration.
Sirius left his quill hovering above his parchment, leant back in his chair, and yawned.
But his eyes didn't leave Remus' face.
"Moony," he whispered.
Remus didn't hear him. He frowned down at the page.
"Moony." He tried again, a little louder.
Still Remus read on, lost in thought.
"Remus!"
The use of his name made Remus look up. Hazel eyes met grey. A flicker of something warm and affectionate in Remus' eyes caused Sirius to feel a sudden sense of satisfaction that he had caused it, and a certainty that there was nowhere else he'd rather be.
"Come on," Sirius said, standing. He reached over across the desk and shut Remus' book. "Let's go."

When Sirius Fell In Love
Pairings: Pre-poly!marauders x disabled!reader Summary: Sirius realises he's falling for you. [wordcount: 1.1k words] Tags: fem!reader, wheelchair user!reader, friends to lovers, soft!sirius black Sirius's Realisation | James's Realisation | Remus's Realisation | The Plan
Tumblr media
He first notices it in Charms.
The morning sun is streaming in through the tall windows, casting a warm glow over the classroom. The light catches on your hair as you lean down to write, each strand shimmering like spun gold. Seated two rows behind, Sirius watches the scene unfold, his attention drawn away from the lecture and towards you.
Professor Flitwick is at the front of the class, perched atop a stack of books, his high-pitched voice filling the room with lessons on the Cheering Charm. But Sirius is otherwise occupied, studying you instead. Your muggle pen moves across the parchment in slow, hesitant strokes, so different from the confident scribbles of your classmates. It's one of those little things about you that he's begun to notice—tiny details that had always been there but had somehow escaped his attention until now.
James nudges his side with an elbow, and Sirius starts, blinking back to awareness. "Oi, you still with us, Black?" James teases, a grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. "You've been staring into nothing for five minutes straight."
"Just thinking," Sirius mumbles, the words barely audible as he shakes off the lingering tendrils of his thoughts. He straightens up, trying to focus on the lesson before them, but his eyes keep wandering back to you—this enigma, this anomaly in his otherwise predictable world.
You're not like anyone Sirius has ever known, and it's not just because you're disabled. No, there's something more, something indefinable that sets you apart. You don't fall into any neat categories in his mind—you're not brash and boisterous like James, nor are you reserved and studious like Remus. Yet somehow, you fit right in with them, a puzzle piece clicking into place within their dynamic.
Though you've been friends with Remus for much longer, it's only this year that you've started spending time with Sirius and James too. At first, Sirius wasn't sure what to make of you—you were nothing like the other girls who trailed after him, their giggles as light as their resolve. You were different; your wit was sharp, your smile was reserved for those who earned it, and you didn't shy away from challenging Sirius when he stepped out of line.
And then there's the way you speak to Remus—with an understanding so deep it feels like you can see through the walls he’s built around himself. You talk about things that matter, about fears and dreams, hopes and disappointments. It's a language foreign to Sirius, one that scares him even as it draws him in.
"Sirius, are you even listening?" James snaps his fingers in front of Sirius's face, pulling him back from the edges of his thoughts. "You've been staring at that parchment for ages."
"Shut up, Potter," Sirius mutters, pretending to scribble something down. But his mind is elsewhere, replaying the scene by the lake last week when you sat with Remus, talking animatedly about some muggle book you'd both read. James had been trying to lure the giant squid with bits of toast, and Sirius, for once, was watching someone other than himself. He watched you—the way your eyes sparkled with excitement, how your laughter danced on the breeze, how your entire being seemed to glow when you smiled. And something shifted inside him, something he couldn’t quite grasp.
As he watches you from across the room during Charms, Sirius feels it again—that strange warmth that stirs in his chest whenever he sees you. He doesn't know what to do with this unfamiliar sensation, nor does he understand it. All he knows is that it's new, it's different, and he's not sure if he likes it.
"Concentrate, Black," he mutters under his breath, willing himself to focus on the spell Professor Flitwick is demonstrating. But the pull is too strong, the curiosity too great, and his eyes keep drifting back to you.
After class, you roll your chair next to Remus as you both head to the library, immersed in a discussion about the day's lesson. James and Sirius follow at a distance, their conversation a low hum behind you. Yet every so often, Sirius's gaze lingers on your retreating form, drawn to the graceful way you navigate the crowded corridors, the effortless manner in which you steer your chair. He's noticed how others occasionally steal glances at you, whispering behind hands, but you never falter. There's a quiet strength in your resilience, and against his better judgment, Sirius finds himself admiring it.
“Are you coming to the pitch later?" James asks, draping an arm over Sirius's shoulders.
"Hm?" Sirius blinks, his eyes finally leaving you.
"Quidditch practice," James prompts, one eyebrow lifting in mild concern. "You seem a bit...distracted."
"I'm fine." The words tumble out of Sirius too quickly, too sharply. "Yeah, I'll be there."
When they reach the library, Remus peels off towards the stacks, leaving you alone with Sirius and James at a worn oak table. You pull your notes from your bag, parchment rustling against the silence. Sirius watches as you adjust in your chair, finding just the right angle before leaning over your work. James launches into Quidditch talk immediately, but Sirius's attention strays once more.
You glance up from your parchment, meeting his gaze with a small smile. "Something on your mind, Black? You're quieter than usual."
Sirius's lips part, but for once, no smooth retort or joke comes forth. It's a strange sensation—this sudden knot in his stomach, the dryness of his throat. He's never been nervous around you before, why should he start now? Yet there it is, an undeniable flutter in his chest that quickens his heartbeat and dampens his palms.
"Nothing," he says abruptly, breaking eye contact. His gaze flits to a spot just over your shoulder, anywhere but those searching eyes. "I'm just... tired, I suppose."
Your quill hovers mid-air as you study him, head tilting slightly to one side. "Are you sure?"
"Yes," he says, and he tries to make it sound like a joke, like everything else. "I'm always sure."
But he's not—not about this. Not when it comes to feelings that are as foreign as they are terrifying, creeping in like shadows at dusk until they consume him completely.
The quill scratches against the paper as you resume your homework, unaware of the storm brewing within Sirius. A warmth spreads through his chest, unfamiliar yet oddly comforting. It unsettles him, this strange sensation, but he doesn't push it away. Instead, he lets it linger, filling the hollow spaces with something akin to hope.
He can't quite grasp what this means, not yet. But as he watches you write, your brow furrowed in concentration, and listens to James prattling on about Quidditch plays, one thing becomes clear to Sirius Black:
He’s falling for you. And it terrifies him.

ive somehow gotten into marauders tiktok a lil…. and OMG some ppl r acc delusional and lowk mean for telling straight up lies to new fans….
like somebody asked what were regulus’ last words and a heavily-liked comment replies “oh its about him and james having a house by the sea” and then said its in the books…. TFFFF
regulus is only mentioned like 3 times i think…. by sirius, by professor slughorn maybe?? and then the moment the golden trio discover who R.A.B is and thats FINE and also ppl shipping jegulus is fine but the lies r not like at what point would be ever discover his last words or wanting a house w james when both of them are DEAD and havent written a letter mentioning it or anything😭😭
and like another post i saw this morning was about luna/barty having an interesting dynamic and the comments were like “oh its becuz he was besties with her uncle evan rosier” and i get thats the fanon but when somebody replies and asks if this is true in the books pls dont say “oh yes lunas mum was a rosier who loved barty jr and thats why he cared for luna”
it simply just NEVER existed 💀💀
im all for creating hcs and stuff cos thats what fandom is about but like having things so wildly out of canon (or plausible but not mentioned) just becoming generally agreed upon kills me becuz now there is no possibility of finding fics which go thru different routes (like pandora lovegood being originally a fortescue, ollivander or malfoy etc)…..
……or just follow canon (like with remus lupins whole characterisation! he’s not some soft uwu boy…. but he isnt some emo punk friends with slytherins…. hes a kind but cowardly guy who wasn’t naturally smart but became studious and who has some anger issues which occasionally pop out‼️)
(also like i remember before atyd got big and i cant imagine how ppl who r ogs in the fandom feel now…. like ive liked it as a kid but only got into the fandom like 2018-ish)
(and i didnt read atyd at first when it got big becuz of how they made remus be in an orphanage when i loved the idea of him having super loving but guilty parents esp cos his dad was an anti-wolf activist but him growing to love wolves but feeling ashamed for how his bigotry resulted in his son’s issue would be SO interesting….. and then it goes even more canon-divergent with the personality lobotomy of remus and then i gave up on both it AND the fandom becuz then everything kinda replicated it with the changing characterisation of the marauders 😭😭)
ALSO ALSO like the whole hatred of dumbledore goes way too far sometimes and it lowkey just takes me back to how pissed the aot, fmab and mha fandom would make characters like grisha jaeger, hohenheim and all might…. like they do have their issues but they aren’t some abusive assholes and i get making ooc fanfics cos do whatever but the sheer amount of fics making them that would kill me. and like grindeldore angst and the tragicness of dumbledores plot is so interesting to me

Lily Evans Was a feminist. Ergo So Was James Potter
I don’t know how to tell you this but:
1. Canon James Potter only asked Lily Evans out once.
ONCE
The whole “he kept asking her out every few minutes for years till she relented” thing is complete fanon
Makey-upy
Capisce? ONCE
2. Lily Evans wasn’t a pushover
Lily was canonically a firebrand. She was kind and beautiful, sure. but - she was described as cheeky and clever. She could be scary (Sirius & James in SWM). She was a muggleborn growing up in 1970s Britain. For those not aware, this was happening in 1970s Britain:
“ If you’re black, working class and a woman, you lose out three times over” (1971)
Also - we know she was from a nondescript midlands town. This was what it would have been like:
So you’re telling me that a bright, intelligent, studious woman and a bit of a rebel, who refused the offer to join Voldemort and duelled him 3 times - who volunteered to get involved in an underground/illegal, subversive group in a war against Wix bigoted fascist-types - somehow wasn’t remotely interested in the women’s rights movement, CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament), workers’ right and the Gay liberation Front?
Everyone can make up their own marauders headcanons etc etc - but for me, with that personality?
Not a chance
Ok, but then, if we agree Lily wasn’t clueless about feminism and other social movements in 1970s/early 1980s - you think she’d actually date Potter (let along marry the bloke) if he wasn’t a feminist too??
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???
In the same way I’d never ever even consider a single figment of an imagined date with a Trump Guy, Lily Evans wouldn’t go out with someone uninterested in women’s rights… that’s just the way it is.
(You can decide did he start off not v knowledgeable about this area and need a lot of education to undo misogynistic thinking. Or you can decide that Mia Potter (with her husband’s full support) was a strong woman who was really involved in rights movements in the Wix World and James Potter understood all this stuff from the age of 3. I don’t care)
@chdarling’s The Last Enemy certainly has themes involving this stuff, and we know that’s our canon bible!
Or, inferior fic obviously, but from We Can Be Heroes:
“To paraphrase President John F. Kennedy: Ich bin eine Feministin.”

What an angry, disposable man… Nothing but a pawn … born to be damned.
How I perceive Severus Snape
Notes: Go into this understanding that to Me, Severus is deeply flawed and broke and trauma filled. There are parts of him I see as soft and squishy, covered by hate to keep Them from bruising. If you don’t like that, do not read this. Otherwise, enjoy.
TW: Mentions of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sex, physical and emotional abuse, poor mental health, death, manipulation Please do not read if you cannot handle these topics.

𖤐 remus lupin
With Remus, Severus could exist as a whole person. There were no games or masks, as the wolf would sniff them out. Remus was and is a calming presence in his life that got him to open up, process, and relax.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖤐 Regulus Black
Regulus was Severus’s first kiss. They did not date, per se but they did a number of things together. Severus was regulus’s only and it still hurts Severus to his core to recall this. He tries not to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𖤐 a moment of weakness 𖤐
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trauma
𖤐 Severus suffers from night terrors, horrid dreams that teeter between reality and fantasy. As a result, he is jumpy, often exhausted, and irritable. 𖤐 The night terrors stem from the day his Father became a monster 𖤐 The day severus showed his first sign of magic, Tobias lost it. He flew into a fear based rage, throwing Severus into his room, and Eileen was left to explain everything. 𖤐 Tobias began to drink and hit soon after 𖤐 Severus went to hogwarts, eager to learn magic to defend himself and his mother, but became a target here as well. 𖤐 The marauders, mainly James and Sirius, tormented severus throughout Their years together. 𖤐 He became a bitter and angry boy as a result. he only found solace in his friendships with lily and eventually remus, potions, and dark magic research. 𖤐 His interests gained him friends in the malfoys and other supporters. The prank shattered his friendship with remus and followed by the assault shattering the one with lily. 𖤐 After graduation, Severus threw himself into his mastery and coped with the rage inside him via the Malfoys.
𖤐 forgiveness 𖤐

my 2024 peter headcanons part 2!
cause you guys liked the last ones sm
has a debilitating allergy to cats (Sirius loves this)
when they're adults his house is the one they go to when the marauders want to hang out as a group. like he can perfectly curate his spaces and everyone adores his interior design sense of style
not necessarily 2024 but yknow how it's wizard tradition to get a watch once you're of age? peter has a business that makes affordable watches specifically for 17 year old boys in the wizarding world. this business means the world to him and he owes the idea of it to Remus. he saw the watch that he got and while he didn't judge and hyped it up, he could tell it wasn't very good quality because the lupins (at least in my hc) were not very well off and didn't want to splurge on a nicer one. so he made the business a couple years later. he never said a word to Remus, but Remus knows and loves him for it. this au's harry had a watch made by uncle wormy.
his worst fear was that the other marauders would perceive him as bland because he wasn't as rich as prongsfoot, or shrouded in mystery like moony, or as studious as the other three boys. for a long time he only saw himself as what his friends weren't instead of what peter was
voldemort? who's that? he doesn't exist in my peter headcanons
oops none of these are specifically modern
ok so he rotates cameraman duty with Remus when prongsfoot do dumb shit on camera thinking it will make them all rich (they're already rich the idiots). Remus does it without complaint. peter does it with immense complaint.
but peter isn't getting sucked off by one of the video's subjects after the fact as a thank you, cut him some slack
his favourite tv show is Brooklyn 99, he teases Sirius by saying Sirius is is like Santiago, and Sirius teases peter by saying peter is like Boyle. they're both right to a small degree. it's unanimously decided that james is like peralta, though.
