I just figured out that I could upload books on a language learning app I downloaded a while ago. it's nice because it allows me to save vocabulary words and learn them, so now I don't have to do this whole process manually when reading books in foreign languages.

Here are some books I can recommend:

Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. If you've seen the film(s) you know the story, which helps when following along even if some vocabulary can be difficult or outdated - available as a pdf in the Internet Archive.

Nirmala by Munshi Premchand. This is an interesting and melodramatic depiction of Indian society in the 1920's. I found it more difficult to follow than Devdas because I did not know the plot by heart beforehand. Internet Archive

Lokpriya Kahaniyan by Sudha Murty. I bought this ebook from Google Books for like 2.50€ - it was recommended to me by a Hindi speaker and it's a great collection of stories from everyday life, with excellent and useful vocabulary. Not sure if that's helpful for your app though, as there is no pdf. Google has its own online reader but it also has a built-in dictionary and highlighter tool, which is handy. BTW, 'Lokpriya Kahaniyan' is a good search term for collections of popular Hindi short stories in general by many other authors as well.

Panchtantra ki Kahaniyan by Vishnu Sharma. This is a collection of classic Indian fables - if you search Panchtantra ki Kahaniyan you will find various versions. These are usually written in quite simple language. This one is available in the Internet Archive.

Akbar-Birbal Vinod. These are folk tales and witty moral stories. The vocabulary is often archaic but the humour is timeless. This is where I started learning Hindi before I even knew how to read the varnamala properly. Internet Archive.

Malgudi ki Kahaniyan by R.K. Narayan. These are charming short stories set in a fictional South Indian town. Internet Archive. This is categorised as बाल साहित्य - children's literature. Another good search term for us language learners!

Things change

As of writing this I'm very tired and doing multiple things at once.

A while ago I wrote about breaking up with Hindi - well, I wouldn't say Hindi and I are the best of friends now, but at least we're on speaking terms (meaning, I'm learning Hindi again. Not as my main focus but I'm not ignoring it anymore)

Though there's still a problem with Hindi, I can read Devanagari just fine, no problem, and I can write the characters individually but I can't really write words yet because somehow it's the characters stringed together but somehow it's not, main problem here are consonant clusters (which, again, I recognise in reading and have no problem deciphering but wouldn't know how to write correctly myself).

I'm still learning Italian and it's fun, although I currently don't listen to podcasts in Italian. But I'm watching TV series in Italian, so I do get my input.

Besides this, I had a lot of fun with Indonesian lately

Breaking up with a language #langtwt

I'm not actively studying Hindi anymore. At the moment I don't have any interest in it whatsoever but I can't guarantee that I won't get back into it at any point. During the time I actively learnt Hindi I got pretty comfortable reading the Devanagari script, which was the reason I got into Hindi in the first place, since Hindi was the first language that crossed my mind when thinking of languages written in Devanagari. If I should ever go back into Hindi I'll practice to handwrite Devanagari. Could I do that regardless? Yes, absoloutely but I know myself and I won't have the motivation to do so, if I'm not benefitting from it in the moment.
