Kurt ran a hand through his hair, a soft sigh escaping his lips as he scanned the crowd of people at the Carnival. Typically in events like this he would help his father at the garage, but Burt was having none of that this time. He'd firmly told Kurt to go enjoy the festivities; he was not allowed into the shop for the day. Kurt had grown a bit more antisocial since coming home than he had been in New York; primarily because he still had memories from high school rattling around in his head. Memories where he'd rarely had a good time at town events because of the bullies that somehow always seemed to find him. But his father was right. Times had changed in Bearcreek. People had changed and were more accepting now than they ever had been before; if anything proved that it was how supportive everyone seemed to be of his theatre career. In high school, he'd been bullied mercilessly (prior to the Cheerios at least) because of his love of musical theatre, fashion, and glee club. Now, though, he wasn't alone anymore. Granted he hadn't been alone in high school, but it had felt that way sometimes. Bearcreek had definitely changed for the better. Carrying a massive piece of pizza from the Fire Department's booth, he made his way through the crowd as he watched people walking around. Everyone looked so happy that he couldn't help but smile himself. Taking a bit of his pizza, he turned around to go get himself something to drink before running straight into someone behind him. Stumbling back a few steps, he quickly reached out with his free hand to steady the other person while also steadying himself a bit. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry!" he said with a concerned expression. "Are you okay? I'm usually more coordinated than that."

Elliott hadn't anticipated moving to a new town just in time for any sort of large scale local event, so the timing of the Bearcreek Fire Department Carnival had to be kismet, as far as he was concerned. He'd been so busy setting up his new place and fielding increasingly confused phone calls from his agent that he'd barely gotten a chance to get out and explore the town a little. It might not be the constant hustle and bustle of New York, but there was something calming about the slower pace, and he'd been pleasantly surprised by the variety of food and games already on display at what was ostensibly a fundraiser carnival.
He had predictably gravitated toward the small stage set up for live music. Old habits were hard to break, and Elliott was very curious to see what kind of musicians were hiding in the middle of small town Pennsylvania. He'd made a note of the karaoke bar in town immediately, but since he wasn't trying to draw too much attention to himself just yet, being a passive observer and admirer of other people's raw talent was the next best thing.
"I seem to recall hearing something about fireworks later on?" Elliott mused aloud, hardly registering his surroundings as he watched the stage avidly. "Not gonna lie, I've got half a mind to grab a drink and stake out a spot over there to listen to the music and wait for that, and I just might sprout roots in the process."

Once Matt heard about the annual event, he looked forward to manning the pizza booth. Slice after slice was passed out to the community, and Matt felt a sense of pride for his station and the city of Bearcreek. Since moving from his hometown of Lima, Matt never thought he'd wind up in another small town, but this place is nothing like that cowtown in Ohio. After passing out another cheesy slice of pepperoni pizza, Matt said he would take a break and return as he wanted to explore. There's music, laughter, and screams from the nearby thrill rides. As he stood beside the bustling booth, the tantalizing aroma of hot pizza wafted over to him; Matt took it all in and laughed to himself. The shift from New York insanity to this was night and day.
A ball rolled over and thunked the side of his black boot as he stood there. Matt stared down at it before scooping down to fetch it. He saw someone head his way, eyes on the ball in his hand. "Lost this?" He asked with an amused smile as he lifted the ball up.

Though Seth hadn't specifically said anything to Amber about the carnival being a date, it was definitely feeling like a date in his mind. And maybe he should have said something before hand, but his nerves had got the better of him when he had been texting her to plan the whole thing. But so far, he'd paid for all the food and the games that they played. He even got tickets for a few rides, though if he were being honest the ferris wheel definitely shook up the butterflies that had already been in his stomach. And it really made him realize just how much he liked this girl, if he was willing to risk a few rickety carnival rides, just to see her having a good time.
As they walked, he noticed that the sun was starting to go down and natural lighting from the sky had the beginning of twilight setting in. Reaching around for his camera, he grinned as he looked back to her. "Well, might as well get some more photos in before I have to change the settings for night time. How about... we have enough tickets for one ride on the merry go round, you could go on and I'll snap some shots of you?" @amberrose

As Roxana walked through the swarm, people lined up to go on rides, order food, and play games. She wondered if more people showed up at the carnival than on Founder's Day. At least, that's how it seems, with the number of side steps to avoid bodily collisions. A few dogs were scattered amongst the crowd, and she missed her Kiba. It would have been nice to have him here, but then she wouldn't have the freedom to go on rides, which she talked herself into attempting. At least a couple. Roxana walked past a few and stopped at the merry-go-round. Wow, that unearths childhood memories. It took her back to a time before her father ruined their family. As she recalled those happier years, Roxana's eyes drifted across the ride and spotted the only Nicolás. An automatic smile blossomed, something which came easily with him. She gradually made her way over as half the city congregated around the merry-go-round for some unknown reason. Roxana went in and gave Nico the biggest hug, thrilled to see him there. "I think this is a great place to play hide and go seek." she laughed as she approached him. "Have you ever been on this ride before? I actually didn't expect to see this here. Figured it's too tame, but kids, I suppose."

Events like this were one of the reasons that Celeste had chosen to come home to Bearcreek when she did. Granted, it wasn't the only reason, but it was a large one. She missed the small town events like the Carnival sponsored by the Fire Department. They had events and festivals in Grenada, but it just wasn't the same; they were always fun, but there was nothing quite like being home. Walking through the crowds with a fresh-made batch of cotton candy in one hand and a giant tie-dye dog under her other arm, she smiled as she watched the children running around. The fireworks were starting soon, and she had to admit she was excited for them. She hadn't seen an actual fireworks show in a while; even in Grenada at New Years, she could usually be found with her nose stuffed in a book. Making her way towards the area where the fireworks were going to be set off, she was stopped by the most adorable little girl who was excitedly asking where she'd gotten the stuffed animal from. Crouching down so that she was the same level as the child, she told the little girl how she'd won it by at the balloon darts game. She could see the disappointment in the girls eyes as soon as she mentioned the game, and sure enough she started sniffling about how she'd never win anything like that for a bunch of reasons. Looking over at the animal under her arm, she smiled at the little girl before offering the dog out to her, saying that one day she'd be big enough to win her own version then she could pay the gift forward for someone else. Standing back up, she popped a piece of cotton candy into her mouth with a smile as she watched the little girl run off towards her mother, screaming about how the nice pretty lady had given her the best gift ever; it reminded her of the little girl from Minions with the stuffed unicorn, and she couldn't help but laugh quietly. The fireworks starting soon was going make it an outstanding end to a great day.

Choice after choice is laid out, and Felicity wishes she was the kind of person with a bottomless pit for a stomach. Why must she be cursed with a regular appetite? Those competitive eaters can eat a month's worth of food in less than half an hour. Something about conditioning plays in her head, but she's not listening. Only internally pouting. "If you manage to eat a little of everything, you need to tell me which was your favorite and least favorite. That way, when the carnival returns, I'll know what's worth taking up precious real estate in my belly." She placed a hand over her stomach and laughed.
"Aw. I'm sorry work got in the way in the past. At least you managed to make it out this year, which counts." There are another two bites of corndog left, and then Felicity can skip to the funnel cakes. "Where did you work before? Is it the same place?" She's been told by her parents she has an inquisitive nature, something Felicity likes about herself. It's such fun to learn about other people! "Ranch hands? Like cowboys? Are they the same? Chase mentioned something about horses, and now I wonder if you work together? Do you take them to the rodeo whenever one's nearby?" There she goes with her questions. During a quiet moment, since the final corndog bite was crammed in her mouth, Felicity watched Jasmine's attention drift to the nearby stage. A band is in the middle of a sound check. As she chewed, an idea blossomed.
Felicity swallowed her food, placed the stick and napkin into the paper boat bowl they gave her, and said, "It's fantastic so far. I haven't done much, but let's watch the bands instead of games and rides! We can get a couple dances in, even if it's not a dancy song." She offered, smiling at her. "What do you say? Are you in?"
Jasmine grinned as the other woman talked about how she'd have a sugar hangover in the morning. "I'm pretty sure I'm going to put myself into a food coma tonight, but we'll see," she laughed before taking another bite of her funnel cake. "I mean, there's funnel cakes, elephant ears, cotton candy, sno-cones, candy apples, deep fried sweets. And then you have the savory options like corndogs, grilled cheese, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels. And I know the FD is doing several types of pizza. I fully intend to eat at least one of everything. So we'll see if I survive the day," she laughed as she pulled off another piece of her funnel cake and popped it into her mouth.
She nodded at the question about the event being an annual thing. "I didn't get to go too often in previous years because of work, but from what I understand it's pretty much always this crowded. And I can imagine it gets more…interesting as the day goes on," she remarked with a chuckle. "Especially with the alcohol tent being as popular as it is. "I'm glad I got to come this year, too. I don't get to spend a lot of time with other people," she said with a genuine smile. "Most of my time was spent around kids, the horses and ranch hands most recently." She paused for a moment as she thought about it. "Not that I consider the ranch hands normal people," she laughed. She'd caught sight of Felicity trying to hide her rather large mouthful of food, but it didn't bother her in the slightest so she didn't even bring it up; with how long she'd worked with kids and how much time she'd spent around the ranch hands, there wasn't a whole lot that she'd think was 'gross' or anything like that. "But it's nice to get to spend time with others, so I'm happy that we ran into each other!"
Looking towards the music stage, she smiled to herself before turning her attention back to the other woman. She was going to have to check out the live music later. "So how are you liking the carnival so far? Have you been to any booths or won anything yet?"

Roxana wondered if it's common for small cities like Bearcreek to have random events. There was always some function in Philly, but with how large the city is, you rarely kept track of them. Given the size of Bearcreek and that Chase told her of the carnival, Roxana knew it was a matter of time before she crossed its path during her weekend excursion. After Chase told her about the carnival, Roxana found all the information on the city's site and read that there would be a fireworks show. Happy as can be at a doggy daycare, Kiba was given a little puppy sedative in case the fireworks scared him. There's no way Roxana will bring him to the carnival as he'll drag her around the grounds in hopes of catching any stray food crumbs.
After her arrival, Roxana entered the ticket booth line, ready to purchase a decent amount for games and rides. She busied herself on her phone, skimming Instagram (under an alias), and tapped into an ad for a face cream. While she looked at the reviews, someone joined the line behind her. Roxana gave them a cursory nod and hesitated. "Dom?" she asked, hoping to whatever higher being was listening that she didn't fuck up his name. "Hi. It's Roxana. We met at the..." another beat of hesitation, "cornhole game." The inner eye-roll commenced, for she loathes the name. "Did you just get here?"

SNEAK PEEK: Bearcreek Carnival
After the success of Bearkcreek's Annual Founders Day, we're working on our fifth event - a carnival put on by the Bearcreek Fire Department! The carnival itself is running from Thursday, July 18th through to Saturday, July 20th, opening each day at 5pm and running until 10pm.
Though the carnival runs for 3 days, to make everything easier on everyone and keep us all on the same page, the event itself is only for Saturday, the final day of the carnival. The last day of the carnival also ends with fireworks at dusk! So the event itself will take place in-game on Saturday, July 20th, from 5pm - 11pm EST; interactions for the event however will be able to start Friday, July 19th, at 12pm EST and run through to Friday, July 26th, at 11:59pm EST.
Just as we do with all of our events, we will make an official event post the day before the event starts, listing more details of what the event will include! And we currently still have room for one more player to join the group before we hit our max member cap of 20, so if you want to join in and have your character established before the event, you should come check us out and get an app in!

Daria chuckled softly at Dom's attempt to lighten the mood. "That’s how you know it’s real, huh?" she teased gently. "When the ultimate flirt master himself starts holding back, you know it’s serious." She shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. "But seriously, Dom, I think it’s a good sign. It means Kurt’s getting to you in a way that others haven’t. Maybe that’s worth exploring, even if it is scary."
She paused for a moment, then added, "And hey, even if it doesn’t work out the way you hope, you’ll have learned something about yourself and what you really want. That’s not nothing." She gave him a reassuring look. "But for now, I’m rooting for you. And I’m here, no matter what happens."
Dom fell quiet as he listened to Daria's advice, slowly nodding his head. He was so thankful that he had her. Truthfully, he didn't know what he'd do without her. "Yeah," he eventually managed in agreement with her advice. "I'll try that. Kind of terrifying as hell in theory, but I'll try," he sighed, biting his lip nervously. "I guess, worse comes to worst, everything is out on the table and, if he wants to break it off, it is what it is. Maybe experiencing this is kind of a good thing for me," he added dryly. "Now I know what it's like to be on the side of the people I've done this to."
Taking another brief pause and trying to insert more of his usual humor into the situation, he looked back towards Daria with a small grin. "Know how I really know I'm actually starting to like him?" he added with a laugh. "I'm actually holding myself back from flirting with people. And you know me, I flirt with pretty much everyone." He paused again, then said thoughtfully, "Actually, 'holding back' probably isn't even right. It's more like... I don't want to flirt with anyone else. Isn't that crazy?"

The annual Bearcreek carnival was definitely one of Daria's favorite events that the town put on. For one, the carnival company that they usually hired to bring in the games and rides also had their own food trucks, so she never felt compelled to have anything for her cafe there. Sure, there were a few booths that were exceptions and not part of the carnies, but at least she knew there were enough sweet treats around, she didn't need to bring her whole bakery with her. She actually got to walk around and enjoy the night, treat herself. This year she'd even felt particularly adventurous and bought tickets for the rides. Standing over next to the ferris wheel, in all it's rickety glory, she looked up at the cars, just swaying with people laughing and having a good time. "You know, normally this thing scares the shit out of me, but I might have to give it a try this year. You wanna be my ride buddy?" She asked the person next to her.

"That's it, right there. That loss of trusting fun we had as children fizzles away as we age. Kind of like our version of Neverland vanishes while the harsh truths of reality taint things we once enjoyed." Stevie has to give it to Charlie's outlook and laughs. "Sure, let's work our way up to the spinning death trap. I can't see a merry-go-round reeking too much mayhem. If it does, well, then we'll have a story to tell if we survive." Stevie teased in hopes Charlie picked up. He's only joking. "I have a bunch of tickets burning a hole in my pocket, so this first ride is on me." He offered to walk in a direction he hoped would be their destination. "How many of these Bearcreek carnivals you've been to? I try to make it whenever they're in town. I missed it last year. Had a cold that kept me in bed for a few days."
Charlie tilted her head thoughtfully, considering Stevie's question. “I think it might be a mix of both. Some of these rides look like they’ve been through a few too many seasons, and the people setting them up might be cutting corners to save time or money. I mean, I used to love rides—heck, I was all about the thrill once upon a time. I guess adulthood just makes you question things.” She gave Stevie a playful nudge. “Alright, I guess I could be persuaded. I’m definitely up for a ride if it’s not a spinning death trap. How about we scope out the merry go round first and work our way up from there?”

Hadley hesitated for a moment as Brody offered to pay, her hand lingering on her wallet. “Are you sure?” she asked, her tone a mix of gratitude and uncertainty. She didn’t want to assume, but his smile made it clear he was happy to cover the cost. "Thank you! It's on me next time. And you’re right, we’ve got to keep hydrated if we’re going to indulge in all this fried goodness.” She stowed her wallet back into her purse and took one of the water bottles, leaving Brody to handle the bulk of the snacks.
“The bingo tent sounds perfect,” she agreed, glancing at the fish with a soft chuckle. “He definitely deserves a break from the sun. We can give him a nice shady spot while we enjoy our treats.. Plus, it’ll give us a chance to relax a bit before diving into the rest of the carnival.” They made their way to the bingo tent, and Hadley helped Brody get everything situated on an empty table, a bit away from the majority of the bingo players. “So, what do you think we should name your new little friend?” she asked, playfully nudging Brody. “He’s got to have a proper name if he’s going to be part of the family.”
Brody gave a dismissive wave of his hand, a smile tugging at his lips as he pulled out his own wallet. "Don't worry about it. I've got this covered." He reached over, gesturing that she could put her own wallet away. "You’re treating me to your company, getting the snacks is the least I can do."
He glanced over the menu, picking up a bottle of water for himself. "You know, I think I'll grab a bottle of water too. Gotta stay hydrated with all this junk food right?" Brody helped her carry her things as well, the idea of her arms burdened while he only carried a fish just didn't sit right with him. "Have you gone by the bingo tent yet? Might be a good spot to sit and eat. Not to mention get this guy out of the sun for a bit," he said, bringing the fish up to his face to make sure it was still alive.
