THEIR STORY

Marley was a pretty shy kid, often jealous of how her peers who seemed to collect friends as easily as she did books at a library sale. She yearned for connection - for a bosom friend to day dream her youth away with - but never really felt like she fit. At recess she'd be found hidden behind the climbing wall of their playground with contraband (a full size chocolate bar) scribbling poetry on the back of her homework or reading a book she'd been told to leave in her bag, much happier spending her free time in Orchard House or Avonlea than in the school yard. It became a sort of joke around the dinner table - that Marley got in trouble for being too academically minded but when recess infractions started to turn into tardy slips and detentions Millie started to take it seriously. One friend, her mom had said. Just try. At the time she'd thought it unfair (and maybe it had been), but it was the push she needed and by the time she was a teen she had a small group of close friends.

For as long as she could remember, Marley dreamed of being a recording artist - of hearing the songs she'd written in margins and overstuffed notebooks blaring on the radio. Inspired by her mother's taste in music, Marley's own songs have always tonally leaned folky - emulating her Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Carole King to name a few.

Attended the NYU Steinhardt songwriting Summer Intensive as a teen, later enrolling in their bachelor's program when it came time for college - working every minimum wage job (whether it be guitar lessons, tutoring, or scooping ice cream) to pay for it all herself, not wanting to put the financial burden on her mother.

Her time at NYU was both the best and worst of her life. Creatively, she'd never been more inspired but an unfortunate meeting with a guest lecturer who inferred she might not have what it takes changed the trajectory of her life. She'd been so used to the unwavering support of her family, and small community that she didn't know how to process the perceived rejection. She quit not long before her last semester, heading back to Bearcreek with her tail between her legs claiming the lifestyle simply wasn't for her. She'd missed her family too much.

Those who can't do, teach - so once she'd licked her wounds and accepted her fate that's exactly what Marley decided to do. She used what she had of her music degree to get into the University of Pennsylvania where she got her degree in teaching, specializing in music... of course. As if by fate, Bearcreek Elementary's much beloved music teacher was planning to retire right around the same time Marley graduated and the older woman was all too happy to suggest her as a replacement. She's been working there ever since, teaching music to all the grades and directing two shows a year.

Marley's hobbies include stress baking, crochet, writing poetry/songs, volunteering and overthinking everything.

Lenny is the youngest daughter of Marisol and Eduardo Alvarez.

A tomboy at heart, Lenny spent the bulk of her youth outside - staining pretty church dresses with grass and putting holes in her tights - from sunrise to sunset, playing pick up sports with the neighborhood kids. So it came as no surprise when Lenny, tasked with finding herself an after school activity, went with sports. Softball and soccer in the spring/summer and basketball in the fall/winter. She played all through school, even joining the varsity softball team in college. There was a time she thought about going professional but ultimately her love of food (and a torn rotator cuff) led her down another path.

Lenny dated enough in high school and college, but didn’t really fall in love until she met her now ex-wife Rebecca her junior year of college.

The two married not long after graduation leaving her family and the east coast behind in favor of warmer climates. In San Fransisco, Rebecca played bread winner - keeping their small family (the two of them, and a trio of kittens - Josie, Melody and Valerie) while Lenny tackled culinary school. But once she’d finally climbed the ranks enough to make some real money and it was Rebecca’s turn to follow her bliss… they got the call that Eduardo was sick. As far as Lenny was concerned, that meant all future plans should be put on hold but Rebecca felt differently and what started as a small rift quickly grew in to a chasm between them. Instead of working on her marriage, Lenny pushed it aside, putting all her focus on her parents who needed her.

When she moved home to take care of them, leaving her small family back in SanFran, it was supposed to be temporary - at least that’s what she told herself (and Rebecca), but when she received divorce papers just two weeks after her father’s passing, she knew there was no going back. As much as she’s tried to move forward with her life (love and otherwise) she has yet to really process those complicated feelings.

Now she lives in her mother’s basement turned bachelor pad - an arrangement first built out of care and convenience - though she swears she has plans to eventually renovate floor above Eduardo's restaurant to make a proper home for herself. She’s just 'waiting for the right time’, which always seems to be just out of reach.

She still plays sports on the weekends/in her free time as her chosen form of exercise. She plays pitcher on an lgbtqia+ team in the local adult softball league & coaches both softball and basketball for the kids of Bearcreek.

Lenny is charming and flirtatious, but often keeps her cards close to her chest and her motivations can at times be difficult to read.

Her love languages are food, memes and sharing novels.

THEIR STORY

Clary was born to Wentworth and Whitney Smythe on March 18th, 1989 at Emerald Coast surgical center in Saint-Malo, Brittany, France. The reason why she gave birth at the surgical center was because there was a complication during the pregnancy that made it impossible for her to have the twins in a regular hospital. When Clarity was born she suffered from Ataxia, which is a mobility disability. It causes her to need a walker to get around as she's unstable on her feet most days. She was the lead vocal for most of her school days. Upon applying for college she decided to go into Veterinary medicine and open Wizard of Paws Veterinary Clinic.
