I wonder how off-putting it was when Wei Wuxian came back and he was in that social limbo where some people knew he was Wei Wuxian but most people thought he was still Mo Xuanyu.

Imagine some weird twink gets banished and then shows up to a party one day with completely different mannerisms hanging off the arms of the weird grump nobody really likes but everybody respects as an authority.

His grin is familiar, but doesn't fit that face quite right.

He's definitely still a little freak, but he seems to have the best handle of what's going on.

He walks like a man who has killed with his own bare hands, but surely a harmless, weak man like Mo Xuanyu hasn't killed anything more dangerous than a mosquito.

But it puts a weird anxiety in your stomach, the knowledge that something is not quite right but you have no idea what it could possibly be.

And then it turns out that like a cockroach, the Jianghu's least favorite person is back from the dead.

it is interesting and terrifying to talk to my mother about aging.

she, my uncle, and my father all help take care of my grandparents, and during our call she flat-out told me that, at some point, my siblings and I will likely need to move my parents out of their house into continuing/graduated care. That step would have been so beneficial for my grandparents---for the aging parents of many of my mother's friends---but that generation seems so resistant, so stubborn; they want to age in their homes even if said homes have stairs, sharp corners, haven't been properly cleaned in years. "I am going to try and be more open to change," my mother said with a slightly-embarrassed laugh; we as her children just might need to remind her sometimes.

meanwhile I---a thirty-year-old woman who previously would have described her overall posture on aging as "that's a future problem!!!"---am quietly freaking out.

Everyone I know who's into Chinese dramas (sample size: 3) got into them through The Untamed/CQL. At the same time, the Untamed/Mo Dao Zu Shi fandom seems to be larger than the fandom for all other C-dramas combined. So I'm curious about people (in an English-language fan space like this)'s relationship with C-dramas!

Currently going insane over the phrase "down for the count".

A character who is notorious for not sleeping enough. Maybe they're the team leader who insists everyone else sleeps first. Maybe they always take the night watch after being awake all day. Maybe they simply can't sleep, whatever trauma buried in their brain too loud to silence.

Either way, it's well known they only get maybe a few hours a night if they're lucky, and it's bound to catch up to them.

Soon enough, they're finally forced to slow down - due to an injury, illness, or simply collapsing from exhaustion.

The caretaker watches over them as they make up for what is sure to be an incredible sleep deficit. And eventually, their breathing completely evens out, sleeping deeply for the first time in who knows how long.

"They're completely down for the count."

(Bonus points for the caretaker who is just so relieved that the whumpee is finally, finally sleeping. They've watched the whumpee work themselves into the ground for far too long - they deserve some actual rest.)

Jiang Cheng's achievements are so overshadowed and overlooked in this fandom, especially by JC antis.

Like them calling him a miserable, pathetic loser who's not good at anything is both a lie and a cope because:

He literally built his sect up virtually on his own with little to no experience thanks to his neglectful father

He was able to keep up with WWX in training and ability, despite the former being a child prodigy

He is one of the strongest swimmers in his sect, hence why WWX suggested JC dived first in the turtle cave to look for a safe exit for everyone

He is a hard worker who is politically adept, who scarily predicts outcomes correctly and can read the room *cough* unlike WWX

He was a renowned hero during the sunshot campaign, so much so, it earned him the title of the three poisons

He recruited new disciples pretty much on his own, all whilst searching for WWX

He travelled for days without rest or any food and water just to rescue WWX (and LWJ) from the turtle cave. He still didn't receive any thanks for this

His sect not only bounced back, but also became a political powerhouse, rich enough to completely do up Lotus Pier which WWX remarks as being gaudy now

He is able to provide JL with dozens of nets to help him on his night hunts and have his disciples assist him

He was able to counteract JGY's attack at Guanyin temple. He only failed in stopping him because he was forced to defend WWX

He did all these achievements, building up his sect and apprehending DCs all whilst helping to raise JL despite not being required to

There could be more I'm missing out on here. But it's such a shame he's a slept on as a character because JC antis have a shallow interpretation and understanding of him and can't get over their weird hate boner for him to admit that actually, he is a strong, capable and competent man. And that actually, he is a much more successful leader than WWX. 🤷‍♀️
